    Let's continue with the planning.

I like the tournament idea, but if we want to stay on fluff, it would be IG + CSM VS IG, then IG + CSM VS IG + SM + =I=.
    >> Anonymous 03/11/08(Tue)08:22 No.1316316
    >>1316306

Sure. There could be a lead up to the tournament even, with the Terror Guard fighting a few battles on other worlds with the backing of the WB, then have some Inquisitor trace them to the source and start a crusade to wipe it out, cue campaign. The eldar could be there because of the powerful psyker, perhaps they need him for some reason, or they need to influence him to cause a cataclysm that will be beneficial to the Eldar in the long run.

On "There are two Eclipsion armies, the alive and fearfull and the monsters"
-This seems like a good plan, but instead of making them two different armies, i'll simply play them as different units in one army. When houseruling, the monster units deeps trike from reserves, to simulate appearing out of the mist that slowly gather whereever the Terrorguard goes.

ALIVE UNITS: IF companies, conscripts, etc
MONSTER UNITS: Counts as genestealers/stormtroopers/Ogryns etc. heavier units.
    >> Anonymous 03/11/08(Tue)08:26 No.1316331
    >>1316325

I actually liked that idea of having all the units on the table from the beginning, BUT, having them switch to nightmare mode at a certain time during the game to simulate the mist following the Guard.

A really Manlytears end to the campaign would be something as follows:

The Eclipsion Starchild ran through the hidden corridors of his temple. The enemy was rigth behind him, each clawing over the others to claim the child. Eclipsion was ablaze unlike it had ever been since the coming of the Word Bearers. The starchild was afraid. Afraid that he'd lose his dream.

The Word Bearer lord was in the top tower, the very same where general Scipius had fired his final shot. In his hands were the bloodied remains of a few foolhardy junior Inquisitors who had tried to kill him. The starchild rushed in, tears in his eyes, clinging to the head of his father.
"The enemy is after me! My guardian has died and my dream is shattering! Protect me my lord!" he cried.
The word bearer grasped the child with his arm, wrenching the precious head from him.
"You have FAILED the gods... Just as you failed your father..." the marine snarled.
"I...I...I NEVER FAILED MY FATHER! I DID ALL I COULD! THEY WOULDN'T LET ME!"
The head turned its eyes on the Star child and spoke. "You always had the power to save me. YOU were too much of a COWARD to do it! YOU FAILED ME AND NOW YOU FAILED AGAIN!"
The starchild saw through his tears as the massive powerfist of the Word Bearer crushed the head of his father. The Eclipsion Dream was shattering. The enemy had taken away everything. His world was now but barren ash, all the gifts that had been given and built for him were but rubble. His friends dead, and even his father gone forever.

The Eclipsion Starchild's last vision was the mighty terminator lord teleporting away from the temple. His vision went blurry and then dark. All he could hear was the barking and screaming of the enemy. They would soon decend upon him like raveous beasts. There was noone left to protect him. The dream was over. The nightmare had begun.

    >>1316827

Those that embraced Chaos and did not flinch from the horrors remained human. I guess the child allowede them to be since everyone needs an audience. Those whose minds snapped during the final battle when the Word Bearers got the child to unleash its power are monsters that are trapped in the nightmare. Not sure about defeated foes, it could increase the power of this army exponentionally, especially since they are essentially a localized warp storm that bring a conduit to the Eye of Terror (via Eclipsion) wherever they go.

I like the way you think.

On the subject of Eclipsion itself, where should it be? Near the Eye? Near the Maelstrom? As fa the fuck away from high-population imperial space as possible (They didn't know Space Marines are real, Eclipsion obviously isn't next to Cadia or something)?
    >> Anonymous 03/11/08(Tue)11:09 No.1316891
    >>1316873

I think Eclipsion should actually be quite far away from the eye. The Word Bearers would be drawn to the planet due to the machinations of the heretical Starchild cult and the clandestine gathering of psykers (that would obviously arouse the attention of Tzeentch). Remember the heresy started before the WB arrived.

so lets recap on the early bits.
-Eclipsion governor uses his wife to have a starchild-ritual
    -Eclipsion Starchild is born
-governor hides child under his place to keep him safe
    -time passes
    -Word Bearers arrive
    -half the guard defects
    -Traitor Guard raid the capital
-Word bearers personaly invade palace catacombs
    -Governor dies
-Word Bearers take the child and awaken his powers
-Scipius gets to see the nightmare begin
-Word Bearers get the governors head for the starchild.

    OR

    -same as above
-word bearers claim the child EARLY in the war
-Nightmare begins long before the governor dies

    which is better?
    >> Anonymous 03/11/08(Tue)11:24 No.1316944
    >>1316904

The first one. Silent Hill always comes after the trama, not during it. He'd create the whole thing, perhaps, the keep his father "alive", to keep the planet alive.

Hell, have the monsters actually be the dead guardsmen, brought back in some horrible perversion of him wishing for everything to go back how it was before.

And to him, they're normal. They're not the raving monsters everyone sees, they're people, who talk and laugh and joke and are always nice to him. His best friends. His only friends.
    >> Anonymous 03/11/08(Tue)11:24 No.1316950
    >>1316904

You know, since most of the fluff is written from an Imperial perspective, it's easy to leave this intentionally vague. All the inquisitor researching the case knows for the moment is:

-There was a starchild ritual in Eclipsion involving the Governor's son
-This was kept secret from the Inquisition, which must have taken extremely careful planning and execution
-Word Bearers arrived at the world, heresy broke out (probably before the Chaos marine arrival, stirred up by the Starchild worshippers?), a warp storm overtook the planet, the whole system is now Perditus
-The Eclipsian Guard has since sortied to other worlds under the command of the Word Bearers and they bring glimpses of their nightmarish homeworld with them wherever they fight.

And that's why the switch should be so dramatic, building on the earlier topic. Have the dream world scenery and troopers look nice, peacrful, out of a dream from some childhood fantasy. Something unreal, almost too perfect. And it'd be hard, but try to add in that little disfiguration here, that blip there, see if your opponent would notice. And then, when the switch comes, he gets to see the truth...

    Suggested doctrines were
    -Ligth Infantry
    -Chem Inhalers
    -Warrior Weapons / Techpriests
    -Bionics / Carapace Armour
    -Ogryns

We have a good load of illustration in the original thread. More would be better, though.

But yea, teh transformation would be the best part.

"FOR THE EMPERIOR!" The line of guardsmen charged the bunkers, being swiftly cut down the massed lasgun fire.

"They keep shouting that like they believe it, damn heretics." Louis looked grim as he popped one of the men in the chest, sending him crumpling to the ground.

"Maybe they do, in some twisted fashion. Not that it matters. They'll all die today, especially if they keep up these suicide charges." The guardsmen all laughed, enjoying the target practice. Besides the occasional piece of return fire, the heretics had seemed content to die in the open in nearly two dozen massed rushes. Louis thought he'd even seen a Commissar of their own among them. barking orders to the men. His thoughts returned to the battle as the last of the latest charge dropped, taking four shots before he stopped moving.

"How long of a rest do you think we get now? They seem to have stopped."

"I hope enough to eat, because I'm getting pretty hungry. Slaughter takes a lot out of you..." Another laugh arose from the group, all but one man, the new recruit.

"Wait, does anyone else hear that? It sounds like a siren." Silence fell as the soliders strained their ears, humoring the boy.

"Wait, I hear it too." And Louis did, far off, faint, but there. It reminded him of the air raid sirens from home, something he'd heard all his life. But something was different, was...wrong, and the sound chilled him to the bone.

Seing he is some kind of post-alpha, it'd take several knights. Probably terminators. And blanks.

Witch Hunter codex has stats for rogue psykers, shall we use them as a base and tweak them around? Also in the White Dwarf article detailing Kill Team Nemesis-bosses, one type was an "Unsane", a very psycological psyker thing with eye-beams.

"What in the..." Fog rolled in from the enemy encampment, appearing from nowhere, a thick, impretrenable mist. It oozed over the fields, reaching the fallen guard, and had soon overtaken them.

"Is this some kind of attack? It's melting the walls!" Indeed, the walls seemed to be falling apart, their metal bunkers turning to rust and decaying at an insane rate. "Is it doing anything to us?"

"FOR..THE...EMPEROR..." Shambling could be heard from beyond the blanket of fog. The guard opened fire before they even saw their enemy, but they got no result, no screams of pain, nothing but the shambling.

"In the Emperors name!" The guard appeared again, walking towards them, but everything was wrong. They were ruined, rotting, dead. In his panicked gaze Louis saw the man he'd killed, chest still smolding as he shambled forward, his face replaced with a mess of flesh and blood and pus. And the Commisar was there too, but he hung from a cross limply, ravaged and beaten and quite obviously dead, the whole thing dragged along by the corpses.

"Fire!" The Commisar's orders shook them all awake, and they began to fire wildly, with no order or intent except to keep what was in front of them away. But the weapons did nothing. Most who were shot ignored it, those that fell began to climb back to their feat, unyielding. Louis briefly saw one of them pause for a split second, just stop moving, and the next second he was bring ripped to pieces, torn limb from limb by invisible forces. Shifting his vision back to his targets, he swore he saw the dead Commissar *move*.

Damn it I write way to much.

"Keep firing!" They were close now, scat feet from the bunker, but they just kept walking. No runs, no drawing of weapons, just a terrible, distored walk. Louis heard screams of pain and fear as the first reached their base, and then it was nothing but a whirlwind of stabbing and pushing and screaming and then one of them had him, pinned to the ground. The last thing he ever saw as it reached for his face was it's bloodshot, insane eyes, howling through the mess of it's throat.

Think I've got the way to do it. Do this, for the most part, except have a few guardsmen, maybe one per unit, maybe sometimes too, have them screaming, crying, not even fighting. When you get questions, just answer with a shrug and a nod, don't give any reasons for it. Maybe even, if you're good with the painting and modeling, have one of your Commissar's look turely dead, arms at his sides, face pale and frozen in death.

And then, when you switch all those units, leave those guard there, have those be the ones who are still alive. Hopefully it would be as creept to your opponent as it would be to me.

Commissars aren't even really people now. They're these sort of straw scarecrow things strung up on crosses and dragged around by the guardsmen. There's a cap at the top and maybe when you get close to one you can hear shouting and gunfire as if from very far away. They seem like inanimate objects, but the Guardsmen are scared of them, so scared. Whenever one of them starts to run or otherwise shows cowardice, the commissar just seems to..."look" at them without moving, and the Guardsmen is suddenly torn apart invisibly. : )

I don't think we should have a lot of beefy dudes with power armour running around, at least on the Chaos side. You can have huge RIP AND TEAR guys, but putting in vanilla Chaos Marines would kinda ruin it imo. It'd be like plopping Abaddon in there, you know he'd just mess it up.

Here's some more fluff from me, something I thought up while bored at work.

Cleaning up the mutants was tiring, if simple, work. The fog had jammed his and his brothers sensors, and they had gotten seperated from their unit in the confusion that followed. For a while, it had been silent, until the foul mutants lept upon Ritus as if appearing from nowhere, without any warning or signal. They had clawed at him with great fury, and though they had no chance of penetrating Rictus' power armor wtih bare hands, he had howled in fear all the same. He had known Rictus since he had joined the chapter, and Brother Rictus had never shown fear, not against xenos, not against mutants, and certainly not against chaos, but the marine had screamed in a way he did not want to remember. By the time they had remember the last of the mutants, Rictus was dead, not from wounds or from magic, but from simple fear.

The suprise attack was the only chance the mutants had gotten since then, however. Though they proved seemly unkillable, chainswords had proved quite effective in rendering them a non-threat, and the five remaining space marines made slow work across the battlefield, hacking any enemy they found to pieces.

"Brothers, ahead." It was a slow rumble, a shake in the ground, that spoke of a larger presence. He vainly hoped it would prove to be more brothers, but from the dense fog rolled a monsterous creature, nearly nine feet in height. It was covered in bulbous muscles that made it seem almost comical, if not for the Space Marine helmet that was gripped in a single arm, blood smeared everywhere.

    And CONT
    >> Anonymous 03/11/08(Tue)17:59 No.1318584
    >>1318581

They marines needed no signal, and they gave a short burst of fire from their bolters. They connected solidly, two in the chest and one in the leg, sending the creature reeling. It rose quickly, and what he saw next nearly sickened him. From one wound poured an impossible amount of dark, nearly black, blood, from the second, oozes of pus. The final wound, in the leg, spewed what he could only assume was vomit, before the bolter wound sprouted teeth and began to wail even as sickness sprouted from the hole. The creature began moving forward again, this time faster, and the marine began to see more shapes, misshapen, damaged, but as large as the first emerge from the fog as well. Ordering his men to open fire, he was dimly aware he now knew how Rictus had felt.

Will Eldar psykers be more or less susceptible to the whole nightmare thing?

Will Tyranid warp shadows have any effect?

What about Necron Pariahs, or whatever those psyker-null douches are.

I'm not trying to punch holes in this, i promise. It's totally awesome, and i'm just curious how the whole two-realities thing holds up against the psychic extremes in 40k.

Anyone who's strong enough would see past the reality, in my mind, see what they're really dealing with. A horde of not quite living but not quite dead guard who seek to slaughter anyone who would threaten the child. A powerful enough psyker could likely resist the fear based powers that the kid gives off, and perhaps eveny nullify his powers, killing the soliders for good, or at least for far longer than they would otherwise be out.

Yea, but I'm getting far more of a SH2 vibe from this whole army, so I personally wanted to avoid a "mastermind" per say. It sort of makes the thing far more powerful if there's no one who's really got an idea of what's going on, even the man who started the whole mess. It's just a giant dream/nightmare with a child at the middle, far too scared to end it and come back to reality.

Eldar Psykers will get fucked over by Eclipsion. To them, everything is like the very anus of Slaanesh had landed upon them.

Tyranid Warp Shaods probably do very little as they only cut psyker-based communication, while Eclipsion is a localised manifestation. Then again, Tyranids don't get scared so it's kinda useless.

Pariahs and other blanks are immune, or atleast very resistant, to the Nightmare forms of Eclipsion. To them shit isn't that creepy, but a huge mutant is still a huge mutant.

On the structure of the Starchild temple.
Origialy built by the governor to house his post-alpha level psyker son in a sealed environment where his powers could not manifest cataclysmicaly, the temple-dome was like a null cell. After the Word Bearers located it, the architecture was reformed to act not as a psycic container, but as a web of psycic focuses. These holes in the null-shielding allowed the Starchild's power to be spread across the planet, and by manipulating the network of tunnels, his power could be targeted to certain areas without him even knowing.
As such, the temple also acts as a form of psycic orbital defence weapon, targetting the starchilds full power through a single conduit, the power is great enough to out-range orbital bombardments.

Hmm, we need to get all the fluff on units straight.

Guard Infantry - At first appearence, the soliders of the Eclipson guard appear no different from many guard units, clean, well organized men who will fight and die in the defense of their planet. However, they appear too be a bit too perfect at times, and often wear grins of pure euphoria, even as they blindly rush their foes. However, as soon as the sirens wail and the fog rolls in, this disguise comes apart. In truth, they are monsters, neither quite alive or quite dead soliders who bear their wounds of the chaos uprising. Most are mutilated, missing arms, legs, faces, and what remains is a bloody mix of rotting organ and replusive pus. Those few who retain the ability to speak will constantly shout their former warcries, plodding along towards the enemy in an unstoppable, and unkillable, wave.

"Human" Guard - Occasionally, one may see a guardsmen of Eclipsion who remains in their original form even after the appearence of the fog, or if discerning, before the fog appears. Unlike their dream-like comrads, these men are constantly in states of fear, panic, and hopelessness, wailing inhuman cries and refusing to fight. However, they will never leave their unit, no matter where it goes. For all their fear and revulsion, they somehow remain loyal to their fellows, and will never abandon them. These guard reflect the few souls who both survived the civil war and did not turn to chaos prior to the starchild, they have kept their humanity and sense of self, but are bound just as tightly to the starchild as their kin. Even worse, they have gained their immortality as well, and no matter how many times they die, they come back, same as before, trapped in a neverending hell.
    >> Anonymous 03/11/08(Tue)20:06 No.1319088
    >>1319081

Commissars - When the majority of the guardsmen turned to chaos, they turned upon their former commanders, tearing them to pieces in an orgy of violence. However, the men soon realized that they had made a grave mistake, and rebuilt them, hanging them upon giant crosses and towing them into battle. No more than stitched together and cruicified corpses, the guardsmen fear these scarecrows greatly, and haul them into battle, bearing their weight gladly. But dispite all of this, survivors have said that when oneof the guard would pause, even for a second, he would be ripped to shreds, dying the same way as the Commissars had. And those survivors swear that the dead Commissar's eyes would flash, punishing the coward with summery excutution...
    >> Anonymous 03/11/08(Tue)20:13 No.1319123
    >>1319088
Orgyns - What little speck of intelligence and humanity has left what the Orgyns have become, leaving them as mindless killing machines. Most stand well over nine feet tall and beat overly large, bulbous muscles that make up their entire body, giving them a overground, almost cancerous shape. They, like much of the rest of the Eclipson guard, plod along slowly towards their targets, but perhaps the most unnerving thing about them is how they bleed, impossible amounts of blood, pus and even vomit pouring from their wounds.

    >>1319081
    >>1319088
The Nightmare - Eclipsions armies were not known for having large masses of Ogryns in their ranks, but the Terrorguard often are joined by hulking monsters twisted and wreaked in ways uncommon even for chaos. It is impossible to tell if these bloated and disfigured hulks were once human or ogryn, but one thing is for sure: they are the truest horrors of the Eclipsion Nightmare, beings that reflect the deep sins of the planet and its history.

The Daemons of Eclipsion - The Word Bearer rituals preformed on Eclipsion were disturbed affairs due to the presence of the Star Child. Such a psycic anomaly drew the daemons of the warp forward like a beacon in the dark, thousands of daemons pouring forward from rituals that could normaly summon but two or three. These daemons, lost without hosts and bottleneckes into realspace, either broke down into nothing or fused with eachother. The results were what could be described as Greater Daemons of Chaos Undivided. The daemons are bound to the powers of the Star Child, as well as the summoners, but they are a terrible force to witness: Greater Daemons housing the powers of all gods in a single form.

If I might add something about the Commissars execution methods, let's say an Eclipsion Guardsman runs and is torn apart- what if the Commissar has a laspistol and chainsword hanging from his 'arms' by chains, and at the exact moment the Guardsman decides to run, or even a few moments before, the chains and the attached weapons jangle, and after the deed is done, they start dripping blood.

You fuckers, I was about to go to sleep when I asked myself if the Starchild could "invite" others to share in his dream. Then I got up and wrote this:

Trooper Jeran did not know what to do. He was sitting on a rock in the middle of that damnable mist, watching the shuffling figures that went by, out there where the mist thickened and nothing could be seen beyond. The last sounds of his comrades had faded away just a short while ago. The first one that had gotten separated from the rest had been old Talbek, who nobody had really liked, then Kend, Yefre, and the twin brothers Gelbek and Urskel who always smiled. Then Trooper Tyren had put the barrel of his lasgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. The rest of the squad had disappeared in what seemed like a blur in Jeran’s mind, before the sergeant had been disappeared while scouting ahead, leaving Jeran alone. He had just sat himself down on a rock then, giving up.

    CONT

One of the dark figures in the mist turned towards him, the red glow it’s eyes piercing the mist. Then another of the figures turned, then many more. Trooper Jeren was surrounded by those Emperor damned red eyes on all sides. The mists cleared for a second, but from the hole came one of those strange crosses decorated with commissarial regalia, dragged by even more figures with glowing red eyes. Jeren started to cry.

The figures’ advance slowed, then halted completely, except from one of them who was much shorter than the rest. It was a little child dressed in a simple robe, face hidden under a dark cowl. Tucked safely away under one arm was a severed head.
“Why are you crying, mister?” the child asked in a concerned tone of voice that seemed to come from everywhere, but especially from him.
Jeran dried away his tears with a palm before answering.
“I- I don’t want die. Not now.” Heaving sobs wracked his body again.
“N- n- not so f- far from home.” The child put a reassuring hand on Jeren’s shoulder.
“And all my- my f- friends are dead too.”
“I have many friends, maybe some of them would like to your friends too?”
The Starchild took Jeren’s hand and started to lead him away through a crowd of guardsmen who smiled reassuringly to him.
“What did you and your friends do for fun?”
Jeren wiped his nose with the back of his hand. “A little regicide now and then.”
“Lets see if we can find someone you can play with then, mister.”

“One minor event that really set the Eclipsion Incursion in quite a new and disturbing perspective for me happened when then-Interrogator Murkh and I were covertly investigating a enemy bunker that the enemy commander seemed to hold in high importance. We found nothing of value in the facility that would explain this importance. What we did find, however, puzzles me to this day. A guardsman sitting by a table with a regicide board, leading an animated, though one-sided, conversation with one of those gasmask-wearing things. The thing sat there, immobile, yet the trooper seemed to believe that the two of them were having a pleasant conversation about regicide. Next to the board there were a bottle of amasec and two glasses, one full and one nearly empty. Upon seeing us, the trooper rose, made a perfect salute and gave us his name, rank and platoon number. Then he turned to his ghastly companion and attempted to introduce him to us! And even as Murkh and I looked upon this, the glass that was filled nearly to the brim with amasec started to empty as if someone was drinking. Without moving the glass. At this point Murkh could not take it anymore and opened fire, with me following suit a moment after, riddling the strange pair with bolter holes.”

"Damnit all!" the Sergeant wheezed under his breath as he and the regimental Commissar rushed their way through the rapidly changing city.

The patrol had been proceeding quietly and without a hitch, with no enemies in sight. Then that damned siren sounded. Now, even as they ran, the sky darkened into a deep scarlet, maroon, almost black hue, and arms made of shadows whipped around the two Guardsmen, attempting to grab them, trip them, rip them to bits of tattered flesh as they had to the rest of his patrol.

But these were stronger men. These were men of faith and valor, and they would survive until the nightmares subsided!

    Then they heard another noise.

    A hideous scraping noise.

    A screeching, scratching, scraping noise.

First from one side. Then from another. Then behind.

The shadow arms were gone, and all the Commissar and Sergeant could hear, as they stood panting in the middle of the blood-drenched street, was another voice. Panting, wheezing, almost mockingly.

They turned around, and found a giant behind them. His uniform was a horrid travesty of the Imperial Guard's formal dress, sewn roughly from human skin. He head an eviscerator in one hand, letting the chainsaw drag against the ground loudly behind him as he slowly advanced down the road towards the two guardsmen.

They could only assume he was a human traitor, as his head was completely obscured by a space marine's helmet. A helmet that had had several layers upon layers of steel bolted and riveted on top. There were even sheets bolted to his shoulders and chest that held his helmet fixed in a single position.

The figure stopped. They stared at it. The sergeant raised his laspistol, loosing several dozens of sweltering heat into the enemy's body, but it paid the gaping wounds it had endured no heed.

Instead it began advancing once more. Slowly. Painfully. That horrid scraping noise once more assaulting their ears, the low wheezing and groaning rising in pitch to become horrendous shrieks.

The commissar's face blanched, his hair white within seconds, as with a loud moan he turned and ran down the alleys.

He reached the end of the road, only to find Scipius waiting for him, the head of the Sergeant held high.

Oh, and on the childern idea.

The Damned - The starchild did not have an easy life, and the few other childern he met hated and feared him. Perhaps his only channeling of anger is through what remains of them, a group known as the Damned. The Damned are child soliders, gray in color and fragile in appearence, but extremely large in number, charging enemy lines with a speed otherwise unknown to the forces of Eclipsion. They differ from the rest of the Terrorguard in one other vital way: they seem to actually die. Crashed against enemy fortifications again and again in pointless assaults, the Damned only exist to be brutally murdered, and those that fell them swear they hear the cheering and laughing of a child as they do so, urging them to greater violence. The exact number of such troops is unknown, as they often do not appear during battles, but when they do it's as a swarm of bodies, thrust into the worst of the fighting.

Also, for Pyramid head Scipius. The helmet Pyramid head wears is designed as a torture device, also Pyramid head is a manifestation of (among other feelings) James' guilt over killing maria.

So I was going to have Pyramid head Scipius scream in pain and sob with guilt as he entered the battle, he now fights to protect the star-child because he feels guilty.

Oh, and Scipius and Scorpius unit descriptions, latter being an HQ choice and former being a hero unit.

Scorpius - Perhaps the only normal human to survive the awakening of the starchild mostly unchanged, Scorpius stands as the instigator of the entire events, and now works as the Starchild's general in all major battles. Though in many cases his presence is unneeded, he turns the already horrifying and deadly force of Eclipsion into one tactically minded as well, making it nearly unstoppable. Scorpius is a driven man, and never leaves any survivors witness to his victories, and he has never lost a battle in the defense of the planet.

Scipius - Failure to defend the planet to the grips of chaos and suffering the teachery of his equal in the final moments, Scipius was driven to insanity long before the starchild changed his form. Now sword to protect the city, and planet, from any invaders, he wanders battlefields in his self inflicted torture, cutting swathes through any outsiders he encounters. The few that have escaped him have made him into a legendary monster, and the distinctive sound of his approach sends entire platoons into panic.

How's that sound for the two?

The rough story is that a hertic cult of the Imperium attempts to recreate the Emp's birth, creating a starchild, however, one that is severely distorted mentally. He's kept in a high secuirty anti-psyker vault, and constantly schooled and trained for the day he'll take over the Imperium. Then the planet of Eclipsion falls under siege from the Word Bearers, who convert one of the generals, Scorpius, to their side, bringing roughly half the guard with him. A bloody civil war breaks out, and both sides of guard, along with much of the population, dies in the resulting conflict. In the long days of the conflict, Scipirus, the other general, excutes the governer of the planet, who served as the starchild's father, before confronting Scorpius. At this time, the Word Bearers finally get ahold of the starchild themselves, and "The last thing anyone on the planet ever saw was a sky raining blood and faces screaming and crying from the walls."

Now, the world exists in the dream world of the starchild, who tried to restore the planet to what it was. What he got was turning the 95% of the population, especially the guard, into a sort of unliving monster that maintains a fragile facade of normal life, the few remaining living guard exist in a living nightmare as they find themselves surronded by these monsters and perversions of their comrads, but are as bound to the starchild as anyone else, Scipirus has become a broken, miserable monster due to his failure to protect the planet, and now wanders the city, slaughtering any outsiders, Scorpius, due to his chaotic connections most likely, managed to come out of the whole thing largely unscathed and leads the "armies" of the starchild when needed, and the starchild himself believes the false dream he's created completly, believing that he's restored everyone to life and that he must guard them from the "monsters" that come from outside.

Yea. The eye ones did sound badass, but it still feels too much like a traditional Commissar to really be chaos-y, in my mind. The scarecrows are so distorted and vague that one doesn't even know if it's the Commissar who's actually doing the deed, or even if it's due to deseration, it could be simple revenge.

Also, a another new unit choice

    Inducted Guard Infantry

These are still living, breathing humans who have turned traitor against the imperium for the sake of the starchild's dream. Unlike the few living guard the remain of Eclipsions's forces, these guard do not see their comrads for the monsters they are, but as fellow soliders, so powerful is the dream's hold on their mind. They fight as normal guard do, usually in rolls that the monsters of the dream are incapable of providing, such as weapons teams, mechanized support, or fast attack options. Perhaps the strangest thing about these guard is that they are no more affected by the fog as the monsters they serve with, and seem to see right through it without problems, making them especially deadly in ranged combat.

A way out so that army isn't all slow moving melee, I think.

Plus, we should try and figure out a lot of the mechanics of this army, like how the fog affects the battle, their manner of dying and reviving, and other such methods. A bunch of optional rules if anyone was ever foolish enough to invade Eclipsion.

I'm thinking there should be quite a bit of tank support. Monsters probably don't drive them, but the CSM could, or they could just be possessed. We mustn't forget that the CSM of Eclipsion are unaffected and can still manage all the aspects of war the army needs.
On subject of the Eclipsion tanks, they are primarily old models, Malchadors and Baneblade variants, long held idly in the planets holding bays.

The tanks are empty, and have been so for many years. In fact, the planetary governor ceased funding for armor some time before the fall.

When the Starchild first saw them, however, he thought that the men inside preferred to stay in their tanks, so the tanks started to move as normal tanks would.

Sometimes, if you're part of the inducted Guardsmen and share the Starchild's dream, you can hear faint sounds of revelry inside the tanks when they're not moving.

    Just use necron WBB rules.

If any units die before the siren rings out (around 3 turns in) they stay on the map until the scenery changes. Then, while the fog's in place, you roll WBB rolls on anything that dies.

Units that die beforehand and are out of unit coherency will band together with the nearest models. If they don't have enough for a bare squad of guardsmen, they don't move or take any action until another squad takes the stragglers in.

When the fog's in play, night fighting rules are in effect.

They probably wouldn't, voluntarily. But I'm making an analogue to Silent Hill here, the nightmare world preys on your insecurities and dark sides. Even though SoBs and Marines have a lot of conditioning, they're not perfect, and you have to remember there's Word Bearers there to brainwash them into Chaos worship as well. Not to mention Scorpius and his propaganda.

Yeah, the Governor was the father. The Starchild cult that created the kid wasn't tied to Chaos initially, it was all a plot to exalt the governing family and cause their offspring to rule all of the Imperium (I guess the rulers of the backwater system of Eclipsion suffered from inferiority complexes) but the psychic activity and plotting required to create the Child soon attracted the interest of the warp, and when a Word Bearer Dark Apostle saw the child in a vision he rallied an army and departed for Eclipsion.

The initial landing of Lord Apostatus was witnessed only by general Scorpius and his personal staff who were on their way to a remore training facilty on the unpopulated wastes of Eclipsion. Their trip was cut short when the sky split and down shot numerous flaming pods followed by large carriers. The general went to investigate, but he was ill prepared for what he found. From the pods came giant men clad in crimson armour decorated with silver and relics. He realised these were space marines. Holy men from the stories of his childhood. Demigods he had always regarded only as stories. From among the massive figures he could see one towering above all others. A massive robed form in the largest suit of armour he had ever seen.

Scorpius was quickly spotted by the Space Marine,s but as they approached, he insted came forward to greet them. The marines took Scorpius to their lord, and the two soon found understanding in eachother. It was revealed to Scorpius that the governor had turned agains the Imperium and sought to overthrow it. he was a heretic. Scorpius felt his holy duty to be killing this traitor and his allies, and soon he was busy rallying all men loyal to his word to fight the corruption. Apostatus offered him preachers and beings he called the "Holy manifestations of our faith". These strange and fierce creatures truly appeard to be not of human origin, and as such had to be the very holyest of the Emperor's creations.

Thus began the uprising that would spawn the Eclipsion Nightmare.

Seurgen Primaris was one of the very few "Resort Worlds". It was a place where the rich and noble families went to relax for a few months, years or generations. As each of these families had their own private armies, Imperial Guard presence on Seurgen was virtually non-existent.

Then one night, the usually serene night sky of Seurgen was fatally disturbed. A single-man escape craft streaked over the sky, crashing in a field close by one of the mansions that dotted the planet. Some young revellers that were attending a ball in the mansion went out to investigate. They soon returned, however, having found nothing at the crash site, save one haggard man.

The stranger begged the men and women that they shoot him, kill him quick. Please, before the mist comes. Everyone thought it was hilarious, and ordered the servants to find the man some new clothes, food and a drink. They were there to be entertained, and some silly mist was not to disturb that.

Even as they laughed, though, a thick fog was forming outside the windows of the estate. Seeing this, the stranger grabbed an ornamental lasgun from one of the older revellers. With a last shout of "save yourselves, fools! Before it is too late!", he put the gun to his head, and pulled the trigger.

At least, this is how the legend goes. All we know for sure is that Seurgen Primaris is lost to the Imperium, and that all that wanders the surface now is the daemonic forms of what once might have been human.
