Each major genre of music should be a class, with multiclassing available to follow a mixed genre.
So, if you wanted to be a Bassist utilising the power of Slam Death Metal, perhaps you'd need Extreme Metal (5) and Hip Hop (2) or something.
Oh shit, further specialisation or generalisation could come through instrumental choices.
A mixing deck could be the all-comers, generalist choice giving a wide range of abilities, while something like guitar might have a large offensive bias with few defensive skills, unless you took the right Genre and Subgenre skills to augment it.
So, an Electronica Mixer might be the basic model for someone new to the game. A wide range of skills, abilities and influences at its disposal, it would be perfect for learning the ups and downs.
A more specialised example might be something like a Doom Metal Guitarist. Doom Metal is slow and lacks the aggression of faster genres, instead focusing on heaviness and a stalwart position, making it a very odd, tanky, defensive kind of Guitar Specialisation.
So, we could have two levels of Classes:
- Instrumental Class - Genre Class
Which would mix to provide your specific abilities and stats. Then, you can multitask in one or both if you wish, opening new opportunities, but weakening potential in other areas. We could act on musicfag elitism, too, so you can't mix Shred Guitar with any kind of Hip Hop, and you can't mix Classical Violin with anything, lol. |
