    OK lets play a game.

First I post a random image from a random file. The person posting after me has to come up with a PC concept or an NPC concept that's based around the pic in question. When he's done he must pick a random pic from his files and post it himself. Thus the poster after him must do the same.

    I'll start.

    Sure, I'll bite.

(You just had to get the weeaboo, didn't you?)

Okay, 3 gishes specializing in different magic and fighting styles face off against an evil necromancer who is trying to live forever by siphoning life from the world.

Also, the society is primarily matriarchal since sexual dimorphism of humanity went a different way in this world. Or maybe only women can wield magic.

I'll do the next person a favor by posting from my "epic art" folder. Then again, I haven't cleaned it in a while...

The forces of darkness are close to completing the ritual in their damned tower to resurrect the dead god of death. Rumor has it he killed himself after killing every living thing on the planet. To prevent this the forces of light are launching a massive raid on the backs of white eagles.

    (Man, this sucks...)

    Magic...er, aliens, er...

An unaging warrior search for an honorable death on the battlefield. It has been many centuries, but he has yet to find that opponent.

And now the magic which grant him unending youth is starting to fail and he is starting to age. He fears that he will die of the rapid onset of old age, dying ingloriously by wasting away instead of having one last worthy battle.

It is said that if one travels to the Yrathiel Highlands in search of the Crown of Mountains that they will encounter a lone barbarian. As they approach, he will ask them, "State thy claim to the power yonder."

If the person's intentions are for good, the barbarian attacks and will fight until defeated or victorious.

If the person's intentions are for conquest, he will smile and nod. "Then take your rightful place as tyrant, if thou is worthy." he will say, before disappearing in a cloud of smoke, leaving only a rusted sword and skull.

While another says he shall ride the heavens, free as his own man. Hoping to gain status in the Watchers. The two attempt to manipulate the man in question so that he will follow their specific path.

Ultimately both dragons are simply in it for themselves and despise all who get in their way.

The forests of the world envy this place. They are reduced to ash and wasteland day after day in these times of warfare and petty squabbling between noble armies, but here it is said that the forest has a guardian. Rumors, of course, but none can deny that the trees themselves refuse to burn, and the land here turns away all intruders who seek to bring harm to the woods.
Some say that the woods here have found a guardian, an elf that somehow slipped away. Wiser men suggest that the elves must somehow have bound their spirits to this place before they fell screaming. No one can be sure, despite rumors of creatures roaming the mist shrouded creeks that can now only be viewed safely at a half-day's distance. Those who live nearby remain convinced that somehow, the woods here have found a guardian; In truth, however, the woods here are his guardian.

    Battlemage, last of...

Damn it, why now? Why did the attack have to come now?
She sighed as she took flight towards the incoming bombers and far away from her beloved, now sitting alone at the resturant.

Why was she still alive? Why did all the others die whilst she alone survived every encounter. Why did she ever even have to discover him? Her love would become a widow, he alone would proably be the only one to weep her passing but even now that would be one to many.

Her hands started to glow from the energies she wielded with ease.

Now she had no choice but to survive.

The ancient god of yore. Quadrophose is a 4 faced deity with 4 masks levitating above his multi-armed body. He is a deity of secrets, a deity of darkness. But once more he is a deity of dance, theater and comedy. Every year his clerics and worshipers gather to enact a great celebration in which they reenact the longest play ever recorded. A play so long that it actually has over 50 alternating roles so as actors can sleep between acts.

Every year an avatar of the deity comes down and selects a random individual to play Marquestique, the tragic hero and Gisbelliy, his doomed lover. Many people fear they will be chosen as those who are picked often not only have their own loved ones chosen as their counterparts. But also real tragedy soon follows.

    (AWESOME)

In the Palace of the Unfleshed, Xipe Totec carries the puzzlebox. Made out of the boiled flesh of 777 men and women who lead others to death through deception and bound together by the soul of a vile archmage who tried to pierce a hole to places long left sealed.

Xipe Totec is the Scourge of God, the protean form who deals unspeakable torments on those whose souls are found to be wanting by the Outer Church. It is said that his touch is death and his madness.

Whoever wishes to go to the Palace of the Unfleshed must first find his way there, but it is said that no such path still exists in mortal minds. Said to be inhospitable to anything whose form is not of fluid muscle and flesh, time passes more at the whim of the dread Lord of that place then in any rational fashion. Also, you have to watch out for Arwings.

The Death Eaters are a race of monsters. Born from demonic magic, they appear in the homes of the world weary and envelop their bodies in a fine mist. The paralysing breath stops the target, where they are secured before the Death Eater takes a mas off and places it on the face of their victim. Within hours, the victim will look like it's sire, albeit with only one mask.

unknown to most scholars of the underdark, there is a clan of illithids that have a markedly more, well, musical outlook on life. They are excellent bards, and make the most wondrous of music. Since their own voice is dissonant and displeasing, they often use their captive thralls to do the singing. Because of the dexterity of the tentacles on their head, it is more than possible for an illithid to play several instruments simultaneously.

Do you know how He attempted to destroy them all so many years ago, and sealed His fate? A perversion of the ritual they held so dear. He burned himself into the world itself from this tower, straight down into the stone and fire, spreading and killing as He had done throughout His life. It seems that His spite truly knew no bounds, for He full well knew that He would live untold ages in this way, a nearly dead and barren thing, but He did so rejoicing, knowing that all who sought His death would be denied. He revels still, gloating from there, unable to see the cities they built in the skies, unable to feel even now the life that was not scoured claiming Him, twisting Him, just like the ones before.

How long had it been? It seemed like forever, but it couldn't have been more than a month at most.

They came screaming out of the forest like banshees, using primitive RPGs and handheld grenades. The mechs were the best in the fleet and the soldiers fought bravely, but there was just too many of them.

This was their land, they knew the way around. After the initial rush, they had sent us all scattered in separate directions. I met up Mike and Ben. Ben was killed on the first night. We woke up to find his corpse strung up a scant 10 meters from our camp. Looks like they got him when he was taking a piss.

Mike was killed by a trap they had set up. Such a simple thing, really. A simple length of razor-wire just above foot-height. It cut right through Mike's boots and he tripped into the muck. Would have been more of an annoyance then anything else, but the bastards had poisoned the wire. A slow one, too. Mike died screaming, begging me to give him mercy. So I did.

And here I am. I've survived far longer than they did. Maybe even longer than anybody else, because I still can't contact any of my fellow soldiers or fleet on my communication rig.

I'm starting to see things, shadows in the corner of my eye. I don't know whether it's hallucinations or that they're toying with me.

I don't know how much longer I can survive this.

It started slowly. Barely noticeable at first, really. I mean, we had all that electricity, all those city lights and neon signs. But it's not like we could illuminate the whole world.

Everything which didn't have light on it was slowly disappearing.

Scientists across the world were at a loss for an exploration, religion offered no spiritual solace, and world governments were soon unable to keep the order.

Soon, conclaves broke out. They started to hoard things. Fuel, food, stuff like that. But it was a delaying action. Every day, reality was coming a bit undone.

It was when things started to seem their worst, that it reached a new level.

Every single living thing on the planet was slowly dying from the inside out. It had been a lot slower then everything else, but it was happening nonetheless.

Now all that's left is a few fires. We keep the fires burning with the corpses of the dead, the only fuel we have left.

    We can't stop the darkness.

I don't know how she does it; there's something about her - that vulnerable quality that makes you want to protect her. I still don't know where she keeps that gun, though, and, come to think of it, I've never seen her use it. Not once. Not even when those punks went and ... but then again it never came to that, either, they just seemed to relax all of a sudden. Weird.

Every since that night, he sees her. The drink helps, a bit, makes him black out, not see anything.

He lost his job, his wife left him. She took the kids. Took most of his property as well. It didn't matter. It's not like they could have helped him.

    "Monsieur."

    Maybe he deserved this.

    He kicked back another drink.

    "Monsieur!"

Groggily, he turned behind him, telling his brain to ignore ... the thing ... sitting there.

"Monsieur, Mr. Elliot will see you know. He's very interested in your case. And of offering you a job."

He took stock of himself and pushed out of the chair, wincing a bit as he did so.

He had touched her dead arm, kissed her powdered lips, and loved a dead woman.

Every touch sends a shiver down her spine, every emotion is an explosion of feeling... she has drank deeply of the nectar of sensation, and has plumbed its depth for anything that might pique her interest. Now she thinks only of oblivion - having indulged her love life, her thoughts turn to the black mystery of the beyond. She will not turn her cruel knife upon herself yet, but she has forced her dark experimentation upon her servants before, and has vicariously fallen into oblivion many times before. I fear she will call for me tonight.

Oh. That's nice. Not the usual acid rain I get on this sort of planet, but actual water. Fancy that. I think I'll ... have a rest. It's been a while. The view's not much, not if I look down - just ash and molten rock and those little scurrying things, the HUD has a name for them, something that's longer than the display has space for, but they're just bugs.

But looking up ? Looking up is beautiful. It must've been ages since I've looked up into a sky that's raining water, and without my helmet to boot. There's something in the upper atmosphere, I got the word for it in the back of my head and I know the visor's got a long-winded explanation for it, but it's something to do with the two suns this place's got and the rain and it's just breathtaking.

I don't remember the last time I had a break. Not like this. I think I'll ... sit here. For a while.

    Argus knew this.

When the asteroid was sighted heading for Earth, everyone else in the world started to despair. Not Argus. A little word there, a little push here. He had spent all his life learning how to manipulate people and society and now he finally had an opportunity to do so good with it.

He had drawn on his hand with a white, chalk paste.

The asteroid loomed overhead, filling the sky, seeming to float down.

She may have seemed a run-of-the-mill bored nobleman's wife, but Augusta Kingsley was actually a mage and alchemist of some renown. For 4 years now, she had spent considerable time and resources tracking down the ancient Greek recipe that, when added to seawater, would produce a Venus of stunning beauty that would emerge from the waves. The reagents had been procured and tested, the ritual researched and rehearsed. It was time for the first true trial. They watched the water carefully. What would emerge?

She leaned in close to the man she professed to love, her mind flashing with the tools of death that lay about her - a rock there, a swift cureent here, a steep cliff. An assassin does not see beauty in the world, she sees means to an end. The man holding her close now, his heart pounding at the sight of her face, was yet another means to an end.

But she only needed the sword on his waist. The blade flashed crimson for a single moment in the setting sun before finding purchase in his chest. He wept softly as his life poured out under the autumnal tree.

"Nothing personal," she whispered softly as she stepped over his dying form. Nothing personal.

The buzzing in my ears grew louder and louder as I crept towards the doorway. Whatever took Simon was here. And unless there was someone else that I didn't know about, it had just taken Annette. As it grew earsplitting, I pulled the amulet out of my pocket, expecting it to stop or at least pause.
    The buzzing didn't change.
But when I took the amulet out... I saw it.

They sat huddled against each other in the dark, hearts racing.

Finally, Jake stood up. "I'm opening it."

"NO! Please! It's gotten worse every time we've tried! If this keeps u-"

"What the fuck do you want me to do?!" There was a deafeningly silent pause. "We can't just sit here in the dark for however damn long it takes for... " (he grasped for the correct word) "...whatever the hell is keeping us here to come back! At least trying the door lets us DO something!"

Another deafening silence, punctuated only by Julie's poorly concealed whimpers.

His tone softened. "Hey, we've gotta get out of here. We'll make it through together, alright?" He fumbled in the dark and put his arm around her.

    She sniffled. "Okay."

"That's more like it." He shuffled over to the door, turned the knob, and - taking a deep breath - pulled it open.

And then Julie was alone, her vision still filled with Jake's last moments as the door slammed itself shut.

I honestly can't remember the last time my sister or I saw a structure larger than a few stones. We thought immortality would be fun. And it was, until everyone else died.

Then, a thousand years later, they came.

They don't talk, they don't think, they don't even eat. They just kill, and destroy. They're easy enough to kill, but their numbers are so great that even hiding becomes a lost cause soon enough--we can only run.

    And run.

    And run.

I always assumed that the gods would be stern in their judgments of my life. But these gods read off my list of sins like an uprorious joke, and condemned me to the Desert - not as punishment for my failures, but because they were bored with me and had ceased to care how I lived.

I suppose I should not be surprised. Why should the gods themselves find anything more than humor in mean creatures like me?

I am Argos. You have heard my name before, and the stories it carries. I know this, for even now as you hold your grandfather's sword--a great symbol of your family's legacy and courage--do your hands tremble.

I have cast down a thousand souls in defense of this armor. And I will cast down yet another thousand before my work will be done. My hands thirst for blood, and my heart races at its sight. I show no mercy, and feel no remorse while gazing upon the broken bodies at my feet.

So I ask you: is your skill great enough? Are you worthy of freeing me from my prison of torment? Or will you crumple and die like so many before you? Think well, and should you return, I will know your answer.

But to Ferennil, the choices were one in the same. He had sacraficed everything for his precious knowledge - with no children, no lover, no family, this library was the single monument marking that he had once caused ripples to flow throughout the universe. They told us the war would be easy, that it would end quickly and decisively as our superior soldiers overwhelmed the weak and cowardly enemy. They said we'd all come home to a plot of land and a farm to call our own, maybe even a part of a fiefdom if we excelled. It was 7 years ago, and there's no sign of the damn war ending.

Back home, no one knows. They don't know that the Fyrdlings have ice-wurms, that their shamans can move glaciers and animate golems of pure cold that freeze the life out of you. They don't know what it's like to talk to someone and then have his guts all over you because of a nearby spell misfiring. They don't know half of what we do up there.

    Thank the Gods for that.

Was what I did to them fair? No. I could feel how much it hurt Elisa to see Davian stiffen up, knowing that there was no way she could get to him before the seizure started.
And I'm actually sorry about what I did to Connor. If I had a sister, I wouldn't want to see her like that. Not with anyone, and definitely not with Akula. And I had no idea Akula was going to get violent.
But in the end, they did what I needed them to. And I didn't have to break through their minds to do it. It was for the greater good.

Lethiel had been a normal girl, the daughter of a minor noble. Perhaps a bit...less than ladylike at times, too often running off into the forest, her father tried to force her back into what he thought her proper role was. But he did not know his daughter--did not know that in her young heart she yearned for adventure.

Finally, in the dark just before dawn, when she could stand no more, she broke and ran, ran farther than ever she had before. Until, exhausted, cold, sore, alone, she slumped against a strange, rough boulder, crying softly--for, truly, a child still she was, though a woman she was becoming.

Her tears...her tears, though, awoke an ancient, long forgotten magic, and the stone stirred, rising, unfolding into, of all things, a giant stone man...one of the long lost treasure of kingdoms past. A golem...bound, now, and forever, to it's new master, the young girl named Lethiel, sworn by the very spells that had forged into the strange existence it called life to serve and protect her for as long as she lived.

The little girl in this artist's render is the second daughter to a blacksmith in a quiet village south of the forest.

While Kulkoth Guardians are often loathe to associate with the humans destroying their habitats, they will often be won over by the innocence of young children.

This proved disastrous for one Grove of Stone Giants as an elemental minder employed by the local kingdom saw him gain the trust of a local Grove of particularly hard to move Guardians only to dismantle 5 of them stone by stone, before a troop of minotaurs armed with hammers cleaned out the remaining infestation.

Hollywood. It'd be different here. He just knew it.

After the transformation here, finding work in Rural America was hard. People weren't used to seeing his....kind. They liked looking at familiar faces, familiar people. People you could look at and only remember for a few seconds.

The burst from the stars afflicted him like many others. It made him beautiful. He was handsome already, but there was an altogether alien quality to his looks now. It made people afraid. All their envy and jealousy came boiling to the top. Seeing his divine elegence made them realise just how ugly they truly were.
