Craft Charro: A Dread Mariachi's outfit is integral to his success. This outfit, known as a charro, is made up of black pants, a black shirt studded with silver, and a sombrero. The charro costs 150 GP to craft, and counts as a masterwork studded leather (+3 AC, +5 max Dex bonus, armor check penalty of -1). The armor and sombrero may be enchanted after creation as normal. A Dread Mariachi can only use abilities granted by his class while wearing the charro.

Three-Piece: A Dread Mariachi cannot work alone. As such, you gain a cohort with a maximum equivalent character level of your equivalent character level -2, and a follower with a maximum ECL of your ECL - 4. (For instance, a Bard 7/Dread Mariachi 1 may have a 6th level Cohort and a 4th level Follower). Followers are equivalent to the Expert class, except they have no weapon proficiencies and the following class skills: Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Disguise (Cha), Gather Information (Cha), Listen (Wis), Perform (Guitarron/Vihuela/Guitar/Violin/Trumpet) (Cha), Profession (Musician) (Wis), Search (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Spot (Wis); these cohorts must have maximum ranks in their preferred instrument at all times, though they may spend remaining skill points upon leveling up as they see fit and are not limited to one instrument. Followers have the same alignment as their leader, and have their own charro. Between the Dread Mariachi and his followers, there must be a Trumpet player, Guitarron player, and Vihuela player.
Your band follows you by their own will: doing things that would cause your leadership score to go down as with the Leadership skill will also have an adverse effect on your band, at the DM's discretion. If you have the Leadership feat, the followers and cohorts granted by the Dread Mariachi class count towards the Leadership feat's numbers (that is to say, the benefits do not stack).

Extraordinary Musician (Ex): At 2nd level, a Dread Mariachi's musical prodigy begins to show. He may add his Dread Mariachi level as an insight bonus to all Perform checks and all Profession (Musician) checks. Allies within sight or hearing distance gain a bonus equal to half your Dread Mariachi level to their Perform checks and Concentration checks to continue playing under distracting circumstances.

Canción de los Muertos (Ex): At 3rd level, a Dread Mariachi's music becomes so powerful that it can effect even the minds of the undead, albeit to a lesser extent. All music performed by the Dread Mariachi ignores the undead's normal immunity to mind-altering effects, though any musical effects only have half of the duration they normally would.

Sneak Attack (Ex): Beginning at 3rd level, a Dread Mariachi deals an extra 1d6 points of damage when flanking an opponent or at any time when the target would be denied its Dexterity bonus. This extra damage applies to ranged attacks only if the target is within 30 feet. The amount of extra damage dealt increases to 2d6 at 6th level, and to 3d6 at 9th level. If a Dread Mariachi gets a sneak attack bonus from another source (such as levels of rogue), the bonuses on damage stack.

Five-Piece: Upon reaching 5th level, a Dread Mariachi is able to lead a larger band. The Dread Mariachi gains two more followers of ECL equivalent to your ECL - 4. One of these followers specializes in violin, and the other in acoustic guitar. The larger band infers bonuses to certain Mariachi Musics, as detailed below.

Charming Demeanor (Ex): The Dread Mariachi is a symbol of suaveness in their motherland of Mexico, able to charm women and negotiate with men with ease. A Dread Mariachi may add half his Dread Mariachi levels (rounded down) as an Insight bonus to all Charisma-based skill checks and saves (this bonus does not stack with the Extraordinary Musician ability).

Señor de la Danza (Ex): At 7th level, the Dread Mariachi has almost perfected becoming one with his song and dance, and gains a variety of abilities. The Dread Mariachi may attack in rhythm with the music. If you succeed a Perform check, you may make attack continue playing; the DC for this check is 10 + the number of required ranks for the song being played. Second, a Dread Mariachi may attempt to cast spells while playing. When attempting to cast a spell, the Dread Mariachi must make a Perform check with a DC of 20 + the spell's level; if this check is failed, the spell is lost, and if you fail the DC by 10 or more, you stop playing as well.

Seven-Piece: At 9th level, the Dread Mariachi has finally finished pulling together his entire band. He gains two more followers of ECL equivalent to your ECL - 4. One of these followers specializes in percussion instruments, and the other in either trumpet, violin, or acoustic bass. This full band allows you to play all available Dread Mariachi songs.

Master Mariachi (Ex): At 10th level, you have finally reached the plateau of perfection as a Mariachi. You can take 10 on all Perform and Concentration checks, even when under considerable stress and pressure. In addition, your music is now so powerful that it can effect all creatures normally unaffected by mind-altering effects, including Outsiders and spells like Mind Blank, but only for half of the music's normal duration. Finally, your music now effects the undead at full duration.

Mariachi Music: Mariachi Music follows the same rules as Bardic Music. A character's Dread Mariachi levels stack with Bard levels to determine the daily allowance of Bardic Music. To perform Mariachi Music, a Dread Mariachi must have a band of the size indicated by each particular music, and each member must be within 5 ft of another band member. If a member of the band is lost while performing, you must succeed a Perform check with DC 10 + the number of ranks required to perform the music + the number of members incapacitated each round to continue the effect.

¡Jarabe Mexico!: A Dread Mariachi with at least 8 ranks in Perform and his band may play this upbeat song about the ancient Mariachi homeland of Mexico. Allies within 30 feet of a band member (including the band itself) gain a speed bonus of 10 ft and a +1 bonus to Reflex saves. With a five-piece band, allies also gain a +2 bonus to all skill checks. With a seven-piece band, all of the benefits from a five-piece band's performance double. The Dread Mariachi must make a DC 18 Perform check every third turn to continue playing (this check counts for the entire band), and the effect lingers for two rounds after the band stops playing.

Perla de Mexico: This catchy tune can be played by a Dread Mariachi with at least 10 ranks in Perform. When played, it can be used to charm enemy creatures into friendship. When you play this song, make a Perform check; the enemy then makes a Will save with a DC equivalent to the result of the Perform check. If the creature fails, it is affected as if by Charm Monster for 1d4 hours. A creature that passes its check is instead somewhat dazed by the attempt and takes a -1 penalty to attack rolls and saves for 5 rounds. When performed by a five-piece band, you may attempt to charm a number of creatures equal to half your Dread Mariachi level, rounded down; when performed by a seven-piece band, you may attempt to charm a number of creatures equal to your Dread Mariachi level.

La Cucaracha: This song of revolution has the ability to light a fire in a man's heart. A Dread Mariachi with at least 12 ranks in Perform and a five-piece band may play this song. All allies within 30 feet of a band member (including the band itself) gain a +2 enchantment bonus to Strength and damage reduction 5/magic. When performed by a seven-piece band, the bonuses double and every round one designated ally may take an additional standard action. The Dread Mariachi must make a DC 22 Perform check every other turn to continue playing, and cannot play this song longer than 10 turns.

Cinco de Mayo: A Dread Mariachi with at least 14 ranks in Perform and a five-piece band may play this song celebrating victory in a battle that was thought to be hopeless. All allies within 30 feet of a band member (including the band itself) gain a +1 Dodge bonus to AC, a +1 morale bonus to attack and damage rolls, 10 temporary hit points, and an extra Attack of Opportunity every round. When played by a seven-piece band, allies also gain a +2 bonus to Dexterity and spell resistance 10. The Dread Mariachi must make a DC 24 Perform check every other turn to continue playing, and cannot play this song longer than 10 turns.

Ahi Viene el Mariachi: A Dread Mariachi with at least 16 ranks in Perform and a seven-piece band may play this capstone piece of the mariachi. All enemies within 30 feet of a band member must make a roll versus the closest band member. That band member makes a Perform check; the enemy must make a Will save with a DC of the previous roll's result or start dancing uncontrollably. Creatures dancing can only move at half their base speed, take a -10 penalty to all attack rolls and Reflex saves, and must make Concentration checks at a DC of the band member's perform check in order to take any actions other than move actions. However, if the enemy beats a Perform (Dance) check at a DC of the band member's perform check, that creature can move and act as normal (though they are still dancing). The Dread Mariachi must make a DC 26 Perform check every turn to continue playing, and cannot play this song longer than 10 turns.

So, thoughts, /tg/? This class was created for a completely unserious campaign, but it's my first homebrewed prestige class and I'd like an honest gauge as to if you guys think it's overpowered/not powerful enough for its requirements and whatnot.

I love the concept, but I dont play D&D, so no way to help you.

    Strong, but not too strong.
How close does the band have to be to the Dread Mariachi?
    >> Anonymous 08/02/09(Sun)12:24 No.5314940
I am impressed. I might have to use this.

I can just see a party made of seven Dread Mariachis serving as each other's seven piece band members...

Do the song bonuses stack if seven player characters are playing the same song?

As long as each member is within 5 feet of another member, it'll work. So if they're all in a line, something like 70 feet at max.

    >>5314908
    Much obliged.

Hmm, it would kinda depend on the situation and be pure DM fiat. If it were some sort of silly shenannigansy Three Amigos sort of game, I'd work out some sort of bonus, but probably not a straight up stack since you could have silly things like a +28 circumstance bonus to all skill checks for playing the song. A game with seven PC Dread Mariachis would be incredibly awesome though.
    >> Anonymous 08/02/09(Sun)12:40 No.5315069
The strength is actually lower, because you have to keep the band alive. Also, if an AoE spell hits and kills a follower, you kinda get gimped.
