Hey /tg/, I've been working on my idea for a normal life/commoner RPG. Basically, players are NOT adventurers, dregs of societies/hobos, soldiers or cops. They're ordinary folk, with the number of real life problems spiked up. Now, they can actually do shit but they have to balance it out between their family and work. I got some setting ideas:1. Rural, small town in the south in the mid 1960s or just a suburban town not too far away from the cities. You'd have all those crazy "cultural revolutions", the civil rights movement etc.2. Mid west some time during the 1900s-30s.3. Farmers who are forced off their land and end up having to work in the mines or factories for awful pay and working conditions during the gilded age -> the 1900s/1910s.4. Takes place where decay in stagnation is occurring. It could be a bordertown where drug cartels are trying to set up shop/use the town as a route. Maybe somewhere in the Rust Belt. Or a dying city full of corruption, unemployment and drugs/gang warfare. Players would either ignore it and watch things deteriorate until they can move out, try to defend their neighborhoods atleast, if not their homes/families or actively try to make reform in one way or another.Ideas for any of these settings that players would deal with as people who aren't outlaws or something? Perhaps you could tell me some crazy shit that has happened to you or your community without it being SHTF?
Also, system?
This has potential, but only if your players are on the same wavelength. Most of us only play the everyman if we can kick ass in the SHTF moments. Also, GURPS is good generic ruleset for PC to PC balance, setting inspecific.
oWoD. Hunter, but without edges and you're good to go.
This could be really interesting.
Dogs in the Vineyard. Strip out the holy magic or refluff it as values-based persuasion, maybe?
Pregnancies, unemployment, union strikes, gangs/outsiders moving in, dickish people, people getting into fights, dealing with the law....uh..
So OP is trying to make a tabletop version of the Sims?
>>10183598Kind of, but with mundane shit like taxes done during downtime and shit going on in your community.
>>10183645I support this.
I'm cool with it - make it start on Black Tuesday (October 29th 1929), and have it last until the characters retire after the second world war.The characters are 30something year old workers from a part of Europe they all decide on (pick something you know well). Their objectives are to live their lives as normal through the great depression and World War II, whereafter they retire.
>>10183698This. Give players the option to be partisans or just run the fuck away.
I think people play role-playing games to escape from the failure that is their reality. Not endure a even worse (simulated) reality.
