I wanted us to send emissaries to other two countries to work out a deal similar to Matmer and Cyreth. They would supply 50% workforce each and build a line to capital from the neutral hub that I marked out in the map

It is autumn. Bountiful harvests and a long string of R&D successes have increased your confidence, and made your citizens even more hopeful than usual. DCE's best efforts have secured the names of some of your would-be saboteur's co-conspirators, most of whom are on the rail teams. You have been promised that they will be dealt with as the situation requires, but, as always, you remain in command should you have specific plans. A valve blockage caused Loco 4's emergency shutdown yesterday, but there is little to no damage to the engine. This incident was not an accident, and is being investigated.

The Conclave idly reports that Erivrus's simpler design specs have been cracked and the military is now capable of producing living siege engines, though without the forge functionality, golems, or main cannon. The network of government-directed learning institutions has, through study of the Bernoulli Effect, come up with a design for a fixed-wing glider, much different from the ancient and little-understood Ornithopter patterns. Avan Acquisition continues its march to the capital, increasing its production capacity daily with no end in sight.

News of your Project Zeppelin has been circulating for awhile and born fruit, in the form of a tentative development offer. The government is interested in acquiring several specialized Zeppelin designs, among them a high-speed, one-ton courier, a five-ton diplomatic transport, and a ten-ton cargo vessel. What they want to know, first of all, is if their designs are workable, which Vasian thinks they are. Your new channels in Matmer, established due to your rail agreement, have yielded an interesting bit of information: The people of Matmer have been excavating a dangerous silvery substance that inflicts grievous injuries on those who are exposed to it without the proper precautions. They are using it, combined with heavily-shielded containers, to generate heat. This substance matches your description of Plutonium.

It is probable that the government is already negotiating with both nations for just such a deal. Given the nature of these agreements, and the immense potential profit they represent, the government will probably be involved in some way in most of your dealings with other powers. This can also be seen as one of the prices for all of the assistance you've gotten from them.

Government or not. We can send Zeps there to start negotiating faster and supply the construction.
If we manage to connect the 4 countries (also make sure in the deals that they use ONLY our type of rails, I assume we already did that) it does not matter that AA connects to capital faster than us.

Also, start on building rail lines in capital. First make a network connections inside the capital, then start connecting all neighboring towns, then go north.
Try to ferry all the production to the capitals side.

Crank up rail production to the max.

As one anon suggested previous time, make 1 Zep a month constantly improving them. Make sure that magic and hybrid R&D work on them too. Our worlds highest level Zeps could go 80mph and carry 10,000 ton but here we could use all kinds of magic to make them better (like charms for better wind, lighter craft, etc)

suptg was streaming at the time but the request interface was still there, so I am not sure if that would have worked or no.

Have them all go through the same questioning procedure. Ah, have DCE write down EVERYTHING during the questionings. Have the criminals sign confessions and shit... build up a case in other words. If we had worked out recording devices this would have been even better.

Also, give Jereth a bit more time to come up with better way to mind probe he can use magic R&D as he sees fit for that matter but in the end I want those fuckers to be probed. While we know other agents in our midst, we don't know who sent them originally.

Since I caught the start of the thread this time just ignore my email SDM.

a couple of things that we could look into when we get to the capital or were on the way.

Talk to the conclave about the nature of the injuries sustained by the Lord of Perin's son. While we're not a doctor and there are bound to be healers in the capital it could be worth it. After all, anyone on 4chan worth their salt has watched a few episodes HOUSE and have some basic medical knowledge.

We could also talk to bem about locating that missing convoy that was sent to Dreamwood when we were in the cities the last time. (I think it had been mentioned but dont recall us ever finding it.)
See about having made up a Military-esque dress uniform that we could wear in more formal settings. (Wait, what did we wear when we went to see the Lord and got made a countess?)

Less important was just wondering what materials were used to make the gas envelopes and what we derived the Helium from?
Also possibly see about getting some potions or magic of size reduction if we have to do a lot of politicing in the capital.

DO NOT TELL THEM THAT IT CAN BE WEAPONIZED!!
I cannot stress this enough! If they know that it can be turned into a weapon, they will try to do it.
Instead, we can let them know that we know of this metal, that yes, our world used it as they are doing right now for a time, but that it was abandoned quickly in their application because the danger was found to be too great for normal civilian applications.
We may have to let them know about radiation poisoning and radiation sickness.
We should try to acquire a sizable cache, though, and secrete it in a secret underground bunker (well, deeper than our current one at any rate).

When we get the heaters, build replicas with some fire magelocks built in to take their place. The fakes will go north to our construction workers as heaters, and the real ones will be stored for when we need to build a nuke.

Immigration continues at a steady rate. The current population is 789.

The expansion of the rail lines has made it possible to scout the area very quickly. Still, no trace of the convoy has been found. It should have passed through Merdis on the way up, but there are no records of it.

We need to hire ourselves some diviners, to ensure reliability. If we're encountering sabotage, having a reliable diviner or three on hand predicting damage to our rail lines could save us both a ton of credibility and a ton of money by avoiding damage to our machines.

Also: A nuclear power plant is a terrible idea. We don't know the math or details involved, and the people working for us in R&D aren't working from the appropriate mathematical models to predict the exact effects of radiation- they're using applied experimentation as much as anything else, unless I've misunderstood something. Nuclear technology is the sort of thing that we absolutely cannot afford a fuck-up with, and thus until we've fully developed the science behind it we should not even attempt to touch any radioactive materials or let slip that they are potentially important.

It is the end of the ninth month. Against weak protests from certain of your staff, you boarded Zeppelin 1 for the capital, along with Bem and a few choice personnel, with a heavy DCE element. It was a windy, turbulent trip, and none of you got much sleep, but you arrived in slightly less than thirty hours, no worse for wear. On your orders, a mooring tower had already been built, in the clearing marking the center of your capital holding. Officially, it is considered part of the County, so your word is law just as it was back home.

Expansion, as always, has proceeded on an awesome scale. The Secondary Site now boasts most of the trappings of the Northern element, including a second manor, an embassy, worker accommodations, an inn, and, of course, mines and factories. Despite having to train almost all the workers from the ground up, your head manufacturers have set everything up nicely, and are closing on the capital with good speed. A terminal has been constructed within that city already, and plans are being made to connect other Southern towns just as you've done before. Five agreements have already been made.

Unfortunately, things seem to have gotten worse back in Dreamwood proper. New plots seem to be uncovered daily, and despite DCE's best efforts, the chain of conspiracies resists all attempts to uncover it all. A prisoners has already been lost to a last-ditch mind-probe, prompting Jerith to insist on more time to study and practice. Meanwhile, AA continues on, seemingly oblivious to your many problems.

Two radiation heaters have been received from Matmer, with three more on the way. A first 'draft' of your uniform design has been completed in Dreamwood. Zeppelin 1 has ferried several loads of seeds and miscellaneous farming supplies up to Agricultural, making up for the loss of the convoy.

pardon the half baked visuAL aid,

the interior ring features evenly spaced magnets (electromagnets facilitate greater theoretical output, permanent magnets save space), while the exterior ring features a continuous bank of electromagnets,
the rear end of the motile magnet is repeled by a like pole, while the front end is attracted to a like one, as the mechanism moves, a timing mechanism ensures that magnets along the bank turn off and come on to ensure that the magnetic points are always equidistant to each other, maximizing power/efficiency, and minimizing off axial material stress. parts in grey are insulators, to prevent the multiple magnetic fields from interfering with each other (and to prevent emp attacks on our T.I.T.A.N.s...)

in such a configuation power can increase mathematicly simply by increasing electrical current, with better materials more current can be pased, and with precision manufacturing; miniturization can allow more spokes and bank nodes, increasing efficiency,
the configuration can be inverted, with the motive ring on the exterior and banked electromagnets on the interior, as needs demand
in terms of scale it can be as small as you can make it, with neglible mechanical differences. while greater size obviously entails more magnetic points, which allows for more surface area and current utilized.

potential applications: anything that requires a motive force. power generation

Contract negotiated. The government is asking for three couriers and a diplomatic transport in six months, for which you will be paid both in crowns and in divination assistance. Two courier designs can be built at the same time, both being completed in a month. The diplomatic transport is essentially the same as a Zeppelin 2, with luxury accommodations.

Heat to 73-75 °C, then strain off and keep liquid, using 250 mL of hot water to rinse the grains. Cool to below 30 °C (should have an initial specific gravity of 1.050). Add hydrated yeast & leave to ferment.
    - To get the same effect, you can also do a malt-extract brew (like making beer kits), then boil 1-2 kg of grains or cracked corn and add them for flavour.

    - Only use a grain mash if you're specifically after a whisky/bourbon.

    - You need to use either malt or enzymes to convert the starch into sugar so that the yeast can use it."

One more month has passed, taking you forward into winter. Dreamwood Central's fields are being turned over as Agricultural continues to expand. All five radiation heaters are being examined and tested by R&D, with all possible precautions observed. Your alchemists are working on a way to safely extract or duplicate the Plutonium within. From their efforts, you have learned that the substance is startlingly pure, except for a core of an unidentified metal present in each of the heaters. Research is being conducted in separate locations far from any of the County towns, under tight DCE control. No more than one heater is allowed out of confinement at any time.

Two courier Zeppelins have been constructed and turned over to the government, as another two are laid down. Another Zeppelin yard is planned, but most of your resources are going toward rail-related activities. One of your two main craft is running passenger service to Dreamwood, while the other ferries Bem to various towns in the corridor leading to Dreamwood. Intelligence divination support revealed a rather nebulous 'danger' indicator two weeks ago, leading to the ambush and capture of yet another enemy agent. You took a brief trip back to the County proper to receive the Baron of Kaver Peak, Calias, at the manor. You got along well, finding him to be much like you in many respects. Dreamwood now has a markedly closer relationship with that town, and you have a potential ally in the young man. He's invited you to visit him when you next get the chance. All military and most government personnel in the County now wear Hugo Boss-style uniforms, and the Forest North subsidiary is selling somewhat less flashy civilian types, inspired by the same Earth pattern. Old Terra Whiskey is being refined, but is not yet up to par. A charity organization is being established to provide the disadvantaged with affordable living space, with the approval of Calias and several others. Bem is skimming some of his frankly ridiculous profits to fund it, since Dreamwood itself is using so much to make rails.

R&D#1 has had a breakthrough on two fronts. Mid-size heavy locomotives are now available for production. They are not as efficient or as powerful as they could be, but they're a good deal better than the mini-locos. It is now also possible to produce crude recording devices which use metal cylinders as the medium. R&D#3 has completed a self-contained 'generator' steam engine design, which makes as much use of magic as it does technology. The modular engine can be fitted for many purposes, such as manufacturing, power generation, or transit. You have laid down enough rail capital-side to significantly impede AA. AA is well-connected, and has several nobles in its command section. By all accounts, it is something of a bully, throwing its weight around and forcing compromises that favor it by a grotesque margin. They have never been known to resort to outright violence or terrorism, but accidents have been known to happen to their competitors.

AA has been able to escape scrutiny primarily because of money. The high nobles are an ambitious lot, with the vices that come with power. AA knows which buttons to press. On the other hand, it is an old company, with none of your knowledge. In fact, it was forced to acquire your patented designs instead of developing its own. You represent a much more vast potential than AA, which explains why the high nobles are usually grudgingly on your side.

There's also the condescending way that they negotiated with us, implying that they could crush us underneath their own industrial capacity if we wouldn't acquiesce to them.
There's also the need to make an example. We need to show other potential competitors that our suggestions are not to be ignored lightly. We know the effects that our rapid industrialization can cause; we come from a world that experienced the pain of the Industrial Revolution and the unending troubles that it caused. We are trying to prevent these same mistakes from occurring.

i, for one, do not see a practical need for immigration,
other cities and municipalities in the nation have pre-established governance, civil authorities, and infrastructure, to build up a new city is a superfluous waste,
it is much more efficient to have a sort of university-town, akin to eureka or los-alamos, to foster a tighter knit community, a more concetrated ratio of education, a culture of intelectual curiosity, and greater resistance to subversion. projects are implimented localy as proof of concepts, and then enacted on scale in the rest of the nation,
i do not know how to craft words to better impress upon you the folly of this current policy, other then to underline the drawbacks and highlight the benifits of the alternitive, you have already seen problems that have arisen because of it, and this course of action will result in delay and waste at the very least, or cut our journey short in a tragic degeneration of events at the worst.

By developing in our chosen pattern, we maintain control over technologies developed in Dreamwood indigenously and via our inspiration. If this were to be a mere university town then we would not have that control.
Also, our continued usefulness to the government of Perin is through the development of new technologies and their integration into the current civil order. Simple development of a new technology is not enough; we bring knowledge of how it can be best applied and distributed, as well as providing an area for the initiation of pilot project.

They are already your allies and the leaders are potential marks for your coalition. In the grand scheme of things, however, they are small change. Together, they represent a significant concentration of resources, but compared to a town like Merdis, they are beggars. In the short term, you would do exceedingly well to band them together. In the long term, you will need many more like them to equal the power of a minor city.

The DTs are steadily increasing in prosperity, folding nicely into your trade and rail network. They are not nearly up to Dreamwood's standards, but seeing the results of your efforts has made them want very much to copy you. In time, they will become as much a part of Dreamwood as Central.

We probably will have stiff competition from whatever prestigious academy already exists for nobles. We might have the edge in our academia, but we are woefully behind in social status in this regard.
We may be able to nab some of the poorer nobles and lords, though. Ones who might not be able to afford the high tuitions of a prestigious institution, but through us will gain access to the future leaders of the Terrasdottir zaibatsu and BemCorp.

Bem is both a skilled diplomat and a shrewd merchant, but he usually goes into negotiations looking for the largest profit, not necessarily the 'best' result.

Some of your advisers are worried about the message lag imposed by distance. They are even more worried about being forced to rely on the Conclave for many communications. You are being asked to consider stringing telephone lines and repeater stations between the capital and Dreamwood, but only on the main route.

    >>10895787
Dreamwood's standards are in some cases even better than those of Earth's first world, which puts them far above Perin's norm. The Ministry of Industry accepts no compromises where health and safety are concerned, which has produced no end of whining, but the benefits have far outweighed any efficiency penalties, in your mind.

In addition to Perin's divine resources, we should try to send information requests to those of the surrounding nations. See if their pantheons have gone missing as well.
Don't say it so obviously, of course.
Mention that we are attempting to contact Hretmar, our Frost Giant God, and that the Perin pantheon has been unsuccessful in contacting him. Mention nothing about how we can't contact them either.
This could be construed as a breach of national security, though, so I'm not sure if we should go through with it.

I think that the benefits of setting up the requested telephone line would outweigh the slight hit to construction. As requested, only on the main line. Especially if we can snag a contract to lay down a line to their forward command bases in Forus.

There has been no luck on any front where the pantheon is concerned. Aside from the eclipse message, you have had no contact with them, and the serious nature of the communication puts you off continuing the 'search'. It is the opinion of most involved that if the gods are this committed to remaining hidden, it would be unwise to press further. After all, far too many evils have been unleashed by people sticking their noses where they shouldn't.

    >>10895867
Indeed. The Baron will probably react better to a personal visit than one from your associates.

    >>10895911
This is not a breach, because there is no sensitive information involved. Very few people even know who Hretmar is.

There have been sporadic reports of gods going out of contact, in Perin and, startlingly, in Cyreth, which has its own specific deities. Cyreth's gods share lineage with some Frost Giant deities, which is unsurprising, given the region the nation occupies.

Centuries, though no one knows exact figures. The mighty fortress city of Kharok, holding the vast library of Frost Giant knowledge beneath it, was nearly destroyed by fire gods due to the folly of its mages. It has been theorized that the subsequent fall of the Frost Giants can be attributed not just to Kharok's destruction but a curse set by those ancient gods.

The end of the year is fast approaching. You have reached the end of the eleventh month, the third year after your arrival. Things are moving quickly.

Two more courier Zeppelins have been completed, one for the government and one for Dreamwood's use. The Zeppelin yard is now producing the final order, a diplomatic transport. Perin's capital is now served by Dreamwood rail, and its main terminal received a prototype medium locomotive days ago, in a publicity stunt practically insisted upon by Bem. Connections to Cyreth, Lokar, and Matmer are being run, but not will be complete for some time. AA, incensed by your refusal to answer, decided to do its best to circumvent you. The company is building tunnels and bridges to allow its own tracks to cross your own, and it is attempting (without much success) to turn the government against you. DCE, through more covert means than capture and torture, has uncovered what they think is nearly the full extent of the opposition's intelligence network in Dreamwood. Your Ministries are as infected as the County itself, but DCE, thankfully, has escaped nearly intact.

A concert hall has been constructed in what is becoming Dreamwood's cultural center. It does not yet draw as many crowds as the theater or the stadium, but the lack of skilled musicians has a little to do with that. A telephone line, with multiple repeater stations, is being laid down alongside the main track to the capital. With any luck, both will be completed at the same time. Finding a rare area of free time, you swung Zeppelin 2 over to Kaver Peak, and tested its multiple anchor system due to the lack of a mooring tower. Calias was very pleased to see you, though his people were wary of hosting you, a giant, war hero, and noble. Over lunch, he apologized for the behavior of some of his citizens, explaining that they're a stubborn lot, though not without good reason. Frost Giants rarely raid this far in, but, some decades ago, they slipped through, and did serious damage to Cliffswall and Candor to the East. It's not often talked about, especially now, but it has stuck in the minds of some.

To your surprise, it was Calias who suggested, outright, that Dreamwood become a formal ally of Kaver Peak. He stressed that he didn't mean to put the wheels in motion so suddenly, but he would be a fool to pass on the opportunity. The world is changing so quickly now that he can't afford to lag behind.

R&D#1 has developed incendiary rounds. R&D#3 has further increased the efficiency of hybrid steam engines. The maximum speed of a standard Zeppelin has increased to 22MPH, with the latest tech. R&D#2, with a great flourish, presented a vastly improved golem design. It is, in essence, several different golems working together, forming a single body that can handle several different tasks without reprogramming. They want to start work on a self-programming golem, but your stories of rogue AIs and robot armies compelled them to ask for permission first.

Kaver Peak could be a good location to recruit some people if we ever do expeditions into the far north. Some people from places closer to Dreamwood may well have forgotten how dangerous 'real' Frost Giants can be.

As for the enemy spy network that we've pritty much pinned down it might be a good point to find out what it is these people are getting from it. Are they being payed rediculous sums of money, promised power etc. Find out what their motivations are, and if it's something fairly common. The general idea I had was:
Earth - Heavy industry and technology for stuff on the ground.
Air - Flight technology, such as zeppelins and ornithopters.
Fire - Steam engines and petrochemicals. Also weapons design.
Water - Naval ships, both military and civilian.
    Arcana - Magic.

Now that I think about it, we may not yet be at the level where dividing teams into such specialized groups is warranted. So I guess for now, encouraging the three divisions to work with each other and cross-pollinate ideas.

Very tempting concessions, such as immediate full partner status (though we keep final control of the company, of course), unlimited license to use our zeppelin designs, technical assistance to retool their factories and airports. In return we get usage of their airfields.
It most get us Bem-level profits, but I think it should be so tempting that the balloon and ornithopter companies won't compete with us, because they'll become a part of us.

It all went off without a hitch, though, thanks to the pilot's steady hands and a complete lack of wind. In the end, the locomotive settled gently onto the tracks, guided by a dozen workers as the Zeppelin slowly descended. You would never have approved it if you didn't trust Bem as much as you do.

Since you are using steam engines for power generation and driving machines, fire magelocks are used to provide some or all of the energy required. Perin is biased against fire, which is understandable, given the war, so those are hard to come by. Electric magelocks could be used to run motors, but those are also quite rare, and tend to have a lower output and long recharge times. Much of your research has been curtailed due to rail expansion. Magelocks, especially fire ones, are a priority, but they're not getting as much attention as they could.

This is not a good situation. Our citizens are fearful that our enemies have agents who can hurt them, allowing our enemies to blackmail/threaten our citizens into becoming their agents. The only way to break the cycle is going to be an overt reassertion of control on a massive scale, preferably once we know exactly who our enemy is and how effectively they can carry out their threats against our people. I think our current plan is to track the source of the enemy intelligence network, turning as many agents as we can in the process, and then striking at the source. Once the source of these troubles has been dealt with, we dismantle the network (offer enemy agents a chance to work in the DCE, perhaps? They were good enough to get in, they might be worth further training, and being the person who took care of the person threatening them might shift loyalty to us). That should alleviate most security concerns.

Most houses have been retrofitted with bathrooms, though they are not very luxurious. They come with sink, shower, and toilet, at least, though, as mentioned, the sinks and showers are cold only unless in a building served by boilers. You already use coal-burning boilers. Some smaller ones are still wood-burning models. There just aren't enough of them yet. Having a water heater in every home is a modern invention, and you're not there yet.

The tunnel spirit can't go nearly that deep, but it can go deep enough for there to be some merit in geothermal power. More research is needed, though, and construction of the appropriate facilities would be resource-intensive.

We might be farther ahead to build some water heaters that use sunlight that can be attached to the rooves of houses. When I visited China a few years ago you could see them EVERYWHERE except for the areas with skyscrapers. All they really need is electricity to run the water pump.

    >Certain crucial ingredients are native to tropical climates and will not grow this far North. So far, attempts to grow them in greenhouses have failed.

It's the soil. Some plants will only grow in certain soil types. (My grandmother repotted some Aloe Vera plants before giving them to me and they all died from having the wrong soil.)

Let's do a little writing in our freetime. Proposition:

We write down a "close as we can remember" transcription of the light-sider path from Knights of the Old Republic. Make sure HK-47 gets lots of screen time, including his interpretation of the concept of love.

Is it the nutrient content of the soil? The type of sand or the amount of silicates in it? It'll take more research resources than we can afford to solve the problem, but it's something to consider concerning our other crops.

We should set our druids to work on this. Maybe some of R&D too

True, the druids and ecologists on our payroll aren't being consumed by the railroad effort. They are working at the Academy in eco-engineering and conservation classes, but I guess some of them might welcome a change of pace.

I imagine the militarized one is going to require some heavy testing before deployment. Weapon placement and type could cause some serious weight and stability issues.

We should also design it to accommodate mages as well. They can be part of the defense systems and artillery.

They are satisfied with your work, and, thankfully, there haven't been any serious problems. For a brand-new and relatively untested technology, there have been surprisingly few hiccups. The implications of widely available, relatively quick and stable air travel are immense.

Just think, if the war ends there'd be such an influx of fire magelocks we could build airships capable of circumnavigating the planet.

We can use our knowledge of Earth fiction to come up with weapon system ideas. We can use magic where we lack the technology.
We can work towards things like:
Terminators - Metal golems with limited self-reprogramming capability.
Predators - Alchemical treatments or potions to make a soldier stronger and have more acute senses, and equipped with a cloak of adaptive thermoptic camoflage.
Metal Gear, Mobile Suits, and BattleMechs - The War Forms, similar to Erivrus and the Perin-derivatives.

At the moment, you have nearly every source of entertainment known in the North. However, if you do begin negotiations with the pilot companies, some would like you to consider acquiring a few 'thopters. Apparently, they're a lot of fun to fly.
