Skill Points: Every 100 xp grants a skill point. The cost to increase skills are relative to the class, like in Rogue Trader. More centric skills are cheaper, where more class irrelevant skills cost more.

Any ideas you guys wanna input?

I played soldier. After I did, the rest of the classes seemed like a joke to me.

So yeah, you got the best armor and can use ALL the weapons. You have awesome damage reduction, the most hitpoints, a killer melee strike, even more hitpoints, awesome hitpoint regeneration, a skill that soaks up 90% of the damage inflicted to you and you can spam adrenaline boost.

Soldier was here. Biotech users are maggots.

Personally, I would prune it back to the core races - Human, Turian, Asari, Salarian, Krogan, Quarian. It'll make things much easier while you stress-test the rules for balance and make sure the alterations to Rogue Trader work fluidly. You can introduce the more niche races like Batarians or Drell, or the really weird ones like Hanaar, later.

Sure, maybe soldiers are best. Shame they're also boring.

The last section of the game (on the side of the Citadel Tower) is godly to play as an Adept.

We were thinking that too. We just were riding the high of laughter from an Elcor character concept as the ship captain or Rogue Trader of the game.

"Are you trying to rip me off?!"

Are you going to incorperate Rogue Trader's background system? Remove the trees so you can basically pick what you like a rename/refluff the options as you see fit. I always really liked that bit of the system, giving you various bonuses and penalties for the things your character has gone through in their life.

Another weird one, yeah. We were thinking in terms of Vorscha being good at nothing but combat, and didn't want to give the other 10 pts in Toughness, to beat Krogans. Since they're skinny bastards.

Well, Vanguard was the one with the biotech/shotgun mix, right?

Well, that guy is really hell in close combat, but I ain't gonna lie to you - sometimes, you do not want to be close. You suck at mid to long range, your abilities take forever to recharge and are not really that effective most of the time. Though it is hilarious to lift some guys off their feet, there is usually more of them shooting at you, and you lack the damage-soaking ability a soldier has.

All in all, you die fast, even with the shield power, it only takes 1-2 rockets hitting you or some dudes with assault rifles/shotguns/sniper rifles.

However, biotech can be fun. You can throw cover at enemies. However, you can do that with a shotgun, too.

All in all, I prefered soldier/shock trooper. There's nothing cooler then just jumping into the fray and kick some ass, rather then hiding somewhere hoping the enemy does not follow through while your abilities recharge.

Adrenaline boost and immunity is like the best skill to combine EVER!

In ME1 it was a bit of a downer since HERP DERP can't hack shit captain. Glad they fixed that in ME2. Soldier is the best class, if not high tier on the list, since everything in ME2 needs to get through some combat to accomplish stuff.

Also, fuck the ammo system in ME2. ME1 had a brilliant system. Exploitable, but brilliant. State-of-the-art apparently means stepping backwards in time to the point where you still needed spare ammo.

You can't be serious. Equipping a shotgun with high-explosive ammo and adding 2 extended coils is boring?

I mean, sure, you have to wait for cooldown after every shot, but you can take it! Your enemies, at the other hand, don't even have a chance to take cover!

Soldier was fine. I found biotech classes to be more boring due to long skill cooldown even if skilled.

Also, if you play soldier, you can take zaki and liara with you for a well "rounded party". You look like THE PIMP.

You could do both, like it sounded they were trying to do originally in the second game. Weapons naturally dissipate heat, but a player can insert a heat sink at any time to make their weapon minty cool, assuming they have one on them.

Still doesn't explain why you can't just wait for it to cool on its own. And where's all the heat go when you DON'T have a clip on hand? It quietly sits there waiting for a heat sink to be inserted, then instantly transfer all of it to the clip?

I've came up with a few character concepts that you are free to use

    Drell Adventurer:
Bored with the stability and serenity of the hanar homeworld, this drell decided to travel the expanses of the galaxy. He managed to convince a local news station to finance his trip out in exchange for writing stories and articles of his adventures. His goals are to travel the width of the galaxy and share its story. While young and inexperienced, he is a very quick study and extremely intelligent.

    Batarian Gladiator:
Once one of the most feared pirates of the terminus systems, he was betrayed and forced into slavery where he was thrown into the batarian blood arenas. After years of brutality he managed to rally his fellow slaves and a massive jail break. Now on the run from batarian law, he is now eternally conflicted about his own desire to survive and about the slaves still in captivity that he feels compelled to free.

    Elcor Chemist:
A once highly decorated elcor scientist, he was shamed upon discovery of using one of his compounds to enhance his thinking processes. Shunned by Elcor society, he has made his way across the galaxy selling his exotic and sometimes illicit substances to anyone with a bit of credits. In battle he can injest a special liquid that boosts his thinking and reflexes to comparable levels of a human or turian. His skills and knowledge are extremely valuable but his reliability is called into question by his addiction to many of the drugs he has pioneered.
    >> Anonymous 04/11/10(Sun)12:23 No.9125272
    >>9125120

In ME2 I've played only my vanguard character (my PC broke and I hadn't got enough money for a new motherboard for some time... so yeah) but now I'm gonna play all classes (except soldier, that is) and get all 6 endings (3 from ME1 x 2 from ME2).

And the new ammo system. I don't see a point of it - you've got always enough ammo because ammo clips are everywhere but you have to waste time to pick them up. Also, without them weapons should overheat like in ME1 not just stop to shoot.

If you notice, though, you don't really load a clip. Ever.

You pull back the breach and eject the spent clip. Even at the start, when you find the empty pistol. You pull back the breach and eject a flaming, spent, pistol clip.

That "empty" pistol actually had used clip in it. The clips molecular structure is forever changed by the heat dissipation process to be cherry red and slightly flaming.

    Quarian Rogue:
Exiled from the fleet for his reckless and dangerous behaviour, he decided to make the most out of this opportunity and travelled around as a risky but efficient space ship pilot. A known smuggler, pirate and racer his ability to outrun Csec authorities should greatly off set his confrontational and arrogant attitude. While he enjoys his travels, the quarian is ever on the lookout for an object, an information or anything that could get him back into the fleet. It isn't an urgent priority but one he always has an eye out for.

    Vorcha:
A vorcha found and saved by the party, its savage nature is tampered by endless gratitude to its new pack mates. And while he may clean out the fridge unit, he is also the first squad member to take a pilot for the rest of the team (a fact often used by the rest of the squad). He's happy just to fight and have pack mates.

    Turian Spy:

Posing as the "brains" of the squad her value to the squad is revealed in her expanded knowledge of galactic affairs, intelligence contacts, her professional plans, computer skills and the strangely steady aim. In truth she is an intelligence officer of the Turian hierarchy trying to keep tabs on the scum of the galaxy. At some point the shadow broker will approach her with an offer she cannot refuse...

Always when it's possible, I use powers instead of shooting.

    1) Council lives,
    council dies and:
    2) the new Council is formed entirely by humans (Renegade)
    3) there are all former Council races + humans (Paragon)

Because Turians usually obey orders from superiors. I think 2d10+5 is stupidly low. 2d10+20 would be better.

Also, I'd change the difference between races from simple stat bonuses. Korgans, for example, are going to have Unnatural Toughness x2, Regeneration and a bunch of Talents relating to making them hardcore. As a downside you probably want to penalise their intelligence and give them a trait which gives them a penalty to attempting anything non-combat related. Turians would probably get 1 or 2 innate AP due to their metallic hides and all Asari would start with a power or two and Psy Rating +1.

    >>It succeeded at what it was designed to do, though, which is encouraging you to switch up your weapons and not just assault rifle/sniper rifle spam all the time. But yes, it's a weird step backwards fluffwise.

Giving the weapons strengths and weaknesses would have done that.

Even if my sniper rifle never ran out of ammo, the fact that it couldn't tear through shields the way an SMG or Assault Rifle could would have stikll nmade the latter attractive options.

    Sorry, OP went to eat:

Turians (and other low-willpower races) is purely because we're using Willpower for the purpose of Biotic abilities.

While I think that the Rogue Trader game system could work, wouldn't it be easier to, oh I don't know, keep the character generation method that that game has? Start everyone with the 2d10+25, in their stats, but rather than selecting the planet, they come from they choose their race. That way you don't have such a large list of different rolls for different races, and you can include some racial benefits as well, such as Krogan/Vorcha regeneration, or Asari natural biotics, etc.

I agree that keeping the 'core' races, Human, Asari, Turian, Salarian and Krogan would be the best idea, and add the others later.

Also, the Hanar are apparently strong, but outside of water, not very agile/fast.

I'd also use both ME1 and ME2's ammo system. If you roll the 96-100 your gun overheats, and you either let it cool down slowly - meaning you can't fire for 2 rounds or whatever or you replace the heatsink. This keeps the feel of both games.

But all in all, I think that the Rogue Trader/Dark Heresy system would be a good match for mass effect.

How would anyone else change the stats out of curiosity? Should I stick with the net gain/loss of total stats being = 225 in bonus, or gauge appropriately as needed?
