It is 1:45 a.m., January 1st, 2011. For you, the new year began with murder.

Mr. Boddy's annual new year's celebrations are famous, or perhaps infamous, for their raucous nature and influential attendees. Businessmen and celebrities vie for invitations, to mingle with the rich and influential, and for a chance at the apparently random prize. Every year, at 12:00 a.m. Mr. Boddy announces that one of the guests, chosen according to his whims, will be given $5,000,000.

This year, at 11:25 p.m., Mr. Body disappeared. At 12:01 a.m., the guests began to talk. And at 12:39, Mr. Boddy's body was found dead in his private study.

While most guests of the party fled, you and several others stayed behind to investigate. Tensions are high, and the investigators have begun to turn on each other, and you. Despite having been called almost an hour ago, the police have mysteriously failed to make their appearance.

Yes, I was delayed, sorry. Going to recap though, before resuming.

You are Miss Vivian Scarlett, star of the silver screen. You got your start in televison before moving to Hollywood. A year ago, your agent Rufus was upset when a sex-tape you had made with Mr. Body himself leaked online, fearing your image would be ruined. Of course, your legion of loving fans only doubled.

Most recently, a film you were working on was canceled when the studio went bankrupt as the result of shady business practices, leaving everyone who worked on it just a little poorer. You were hoping to win Mr. Body's prize to recover some of your losses.

Though you were in a drunken haze when the murder occurred, the shock of the situation made you sober up quickly.

You are presently in the Library, where you have ascertained that the murder occurred, with a knife. You are currently unarmed, having given up your rope to tie up the dangerously unhinged Mrs. Peacock.

    Your possess two special abilities:

-SEDUCTION: During a conversation, when you believe you have been lied to, you may use this ability to coax one true answer from your target.

-HEAD-TURNER: Use this ability when entering a room. All conversation in the room ceases, and no one can speak until you do.

The other players in this story are as follows:

Ms. Bianca White, private caterer of Boddy's parties and the closest thing you have to a friend in the mansion. She is presently with you in the Library, armed with a revolver. Earlier, you heard a gunshot, which White claims was fired in self-defense when she was roughed up by Col. Mustard.

Her whereabouts at the time of the murder are unknown to you, though so far you have not heard of any motive she might have had in killing Mr. Boddy.

Mrs. Selina Peacock, a socialite and young twice-widower, rich off of her ex-husbands' fortunes. Came to the party in hopes of seducing Mr. Boddy. She quickly lost her grip after the murder, becoming hysterical. After you forced her to calm down, she attacked you with a wrench. You escaped, and your screaming brought Col. Mustard to restrain her. She is currently in the Hall, tied up and under watch.

Despite her obvious danger, she is not Boddy's murderer; she was having sex with Mr. Green upstairs at the time.

Mr. Green was Mr. Boddy's "financial advisor" and had effective control over all Boddy's fortune. He has been open in his dislike of you, even hastily accusing you of being the murderer, despite having no evidence and flimsy motive. White works with him often, and dislikes him for how he treats his wife and daughter. Has been having an affair with Peacock, and was obviously too occupied to have been the murderer.

His wallet is currently in your possession. You do not know if he has noticed it is missing yet.

Actually, /tg/ has mostly been behaving themselves so far, given the player character and the decisions she COULD have made.

Col. Mustard is a family friend of Boddy's, and was running unofficial "security" during the party. A military veteran with a bad reputation, he's been accused of rape and you believe it. Extremely volatile temper. His whereabouts during the murder are unknown.

He is currently in the Hall, with Mr. Green, watching over the restrained Peacock. He may leave his post soon, however.

Has expressed the opinion that you, and "others like you", are a bad influence on Boddy, causing him to waste his parents' hard-earned money on frivolity. Was missing at the time of the murder, and has several times since disappeared. He claimed to have been with Col. Mustard, but Mustard says he hasn't seen Plum in hours.

The other, minor characters in this story who were not present during the murder: Georgia Peach, a childhood friend of Boddy's who looks up to Prof. Plum. Came to the mansion after hearing about the murder. Was uncomfortable around you, but you seem to have won her over.

A man named Brunette was sneaking around the mansion, claiming to have broken in during the confusion and hoping to steal some antiques. You believed his story and let him go.

    And now we can resume.

You and White are in the library, where the blood and signs of violence indicate the murder took place. Miss Peach has just entered, looking for Prof. Plum. Upon seeing the blood, she began to cry, and you comforted her. After she calmed down, you spoke of the mansion's hidden passages.

"Now, what's with all these secret passages, anyways?" you asked. "Mr. Boddy always had a flair for the dramatic, but this seems a little silly."

"We don't know what the passages were for," replied Peach. "We used to play in them as children, though. The Professor says he has a theory, but he's never told me."

"That's because it's a secret," said Professor Plum as he walked into the room. "Like so many things about this mansion."

"Oh, Professor," you said, "you're not dead. What a surprise."

"Miss Scarlett, please do not be rude. I know it's impossible to resist, given your station, but there is no need to insult me. Now come here, Georgia. We should be leaving; I'll take you to your home where it's safe."

Miss Peach refused. "I don't think I want to, Professor. I want to at least be here when they take his body away."

"They? They who, child? No one is coming. Don't you think the police would be here by now, if they were coming at all? They probably think it was another one of Mr. Boddy's stunts for attention."

To take the picture, you head towards where the body is being kept, downstairs. You leave the Library and head towards the stairway in the center of the mansion. White comes with you, and, after a moment's hesitation, Peach follows behind.

"He creeps me out," White says.

"He's usually much nicer," Peach says in protest, but her heart doesn't sound in it.

"Do you think it was him?" White asks you. "I bet it was him. He'd need a strong reason for me to think otherwise, by now."

Peach says nothing, a bit crestfallen. Her silence speaks volumes.

You come to the stairway and go down, to the more private rooms usually kept off-limits from guests. The door to Boddy's private study is open, his body left there since when it was found by worried guests who came looking for him.

His shirt is stained with dark blood, beginning to dry. You and White both stop, since this is your first chance to get a close look at the body uninterrupted. Peach can't bear the sight and retreats back into the stairwell. Behind you, you can hear her vomiting.

You get your cell-phone out of your purse. It's not showing any reception, and the screen looks a bit fuzzy. A quiet, high-pitched hum comes from the receiver.

Okay, we were told he was stabbed - is this true? Can we tell by looking at the corpse?

Definitely curious as to exactly what Plum was doing at the time. He hasn't owned anything - good or bad - yet. I'd say let's suggest him, and the knife, assuming we can verify stab wounds. If the wounds are decidedly un-knifeish, suggest him and an appropriate weapon.

One last question - we followed the blood trail from the Study to here. Does it appear to be a "walking" blood trail, or a "dragging" one?

Well, I can answer the questions for information.

It would seem, based on the blood, that Boddy was stabbed in the Study, escaped to the Library, where the murder was completed.

The wounds on the body show that he was stabbed once in the side, and then in the neck.

You can make the suggestion proper when you return to the library.

    Appreciated, CM.

You follow Mustard upstairs, to a side room. Several screens are set-up, being monitored by a young man in uniform.

"Grey," Mustard says, "show Miss Scarlett the footage from during the party."

Grey nods and rewinds the tapes. He indicates you over, trying dutifully not to stare at your chest.

You look at the screens. Each room is on display. You see workers in the kitchen preparing food, some men playing billiards, and everyone mingling in the hall and ballroom. You glance at the lounge and see yourself, drinking and laughing at being the center of attention. You notice, in a corner of the lounge, Peacock and Green flirting.

On another screen, White is in the kitchen overseeing her workers. Mustard comes to check on them, and you see them talking but can't make it out. Mustard leaves, moving on to check on the guests in the ballroom. On the screen, White watches him go, then moves to one of her workers. It's Burnette, you realize, and White opens up the secret passageway and hides him inside.

Plum is in the hall, talking with some other older-looking men. Boddy comes and greets them, then pulls Plum aside for a chat. They talk for a little bit. It does not look happy.

Suddenly the tapes all go to static. Grey sighs. "It's like this every time," he says. The pictures come back into focus after a few seconds. Boddy says good night to his friends and leaves the hall. You glance again at all the screens.

Over the faces of everyone still present at the mansion, a strange blur covers their faces, leaving a ghostly after-image and making it hard to distinguish what is happening. The only way you can even recognize yourself is by your wonderful dress.

Boddy moves to the stairway. He glances up the stairs, then down. Then he turns and looks directly at the camera. He raises his fingers in the shape of a gun and points. "Bang bang," he says, then winks.

The tapes suddenly go dark. Simply black. Then there's a burst of static, and when they resume, guests are running in a panic as someone finds Boddy's body downstairs. You look for the suspects, but each of you is still blurred out, moving in slow-motion on the film, vague ghosts of nothing but your respective colors.

    "Wow... that is bizarre..."

About an hour is missing from the footage.

You ask Grey to rewind it and watch it again, carefully. This time you are keeping an eye on yourself, not mentioning that to Grey or Mustard.

You watch as the screen flickers. You're there both before and after the blackout. You're innocent!

You keep watching. It's almost eerie, the way you shift out of focus. None of the people you're talking with are affected; you can see them on the tape perfectly clear. But you flicker and move in slow-motion on the screen, a blur of red without a face, moving much slower than you ought to be. You blink. On the screen, it almost looks like people are moving through your body unimpeded, as though you were not there at all.

Play the Seduction skill now. Have to make SURE this is undoctored footage, because if it isn't, it changes the game. Look at Mustard, back at Grey.

"You're ABSOLUTELY sure nothing has been done to ANY of this, right?"

If the skill susses out that they are telling the truth, point out what happened in the Lounge. There is something potentially bordering on supernatural here - at the very least beyond standard description.

If it susses out that it HAS been doctored, await the true answer before further response.

Grey blushes. His eyes drop just for a moment before he catches himself. "This is the footage, I swear." He swallows nervously. "I guess... I guess someone might have messed with the cameras themselves, or gotten here long before the party started and messed with things then. But this is all we have, I promise. And I don't think anyone messed with the cameras during the party, they would have been seen!"

You indicate the blur in the Lounge. Grey looks, peers closely at the screen. "I don't see anything besides the static, sorry." Mustard comes and looks. He frowns, then looks to another screen.

"It happens to me, too, see?" His thick finger presses against a yellow-blur on the screen.

...And with that, I'm afraid I have to call it again for now. Archiving the thread for safe-keeping. If it survives again, like the last one did, we'll continue tomorrow afternoon. At this point it may be a good idea to maintain sympathy with Mustard. He seems gruff, but more interested in answers than anything else, and since he knows we're innocent, we've likely gained credibility with genuine interest.

Now, and this is one I'm not sure about, what do we do about Whte/Brunette? We now know that Brunette was stashed by White for some reason, particularly when she chased him out for petty theft - he knows or has something important on him. We may need to find him. Green blinks and takes his wallet back. "I didn't even know it was missing," he says. "I must have dropped it." He immediately checks the wallet and finds his money still inside. He breathes a sigh of relief. Then he looks again. "My ID's gone." He flips through the wallet's various credit cards, not finding it. He looks at you with sudden suspicion.

"I have it," says Peacock weakly. "I snuck the ID out and put your wallet back while you were getting drinks for us. I thought it'd be useful to have, if... if I needed to tell your wife."

Green throws up his hands. "What a night. What a fucking night."

"So I'm the last one, then?" Plum adjusts his glasses. "Well, I was in the hall with some other gentlemen from my university. Mr. Boddy came and spoke with us a bit. He pulled me aside to ask how I was doing—I was once his teacher, not many know that anymore—where I once again scolded him for having quit my classes. He got upset, and left me alone. I confess I was upset, came to the library to read and relax. After some time I realized I was hungry, so I went to the dining room to have a bite."

Uh, IS he the last one? The Colonel hasn't gone yet, iirc.

You claimed to have been with the Colonel, yet he says that he hadn't seen you at the time. Do you have an explanation for that?"

Col. Mustard didn't speak for himself, but Plum exonerated him. At least, a good enough alibi for the purposes of a game of Clue.

Peach speaks up. "That's right, Professor. You said you were looking for the Colonel, but then you disappeared."

"I never saw him," says Mustard, "not once."

"Oh, Georgia, Georgia," Plum sighs. "I went to find the Colonel but then I got very busy. I have so much work to do. You know how strange and mysterious the mansion feels, sometimes."

"I was exploring the mansion," he says. "The secret passages. The lower floor. Beneath the floors, under the mansion itself. Inside of the walls. It's like another world, albeit a very, very cramped one. Didn't you say the tapes were distorted? Or have none of you wondered anything? Why the police haven't arrived, despite attempts to contact them? Why the doors don't want to open at first. In fact, have any of you even tried to leave?"

Press him. "And the work? Tell me Professor, what work crawling through these passages would be scintillating enough to arouse your interest?"

I'm thinking using Seduction. He keeps avoiding answering the question of WHY he was there, what work he was doing. I want to find out.

Plum scoffs at you, frustrated. "But I just told you. It really is difficult being the only person in the room with any intelligence. I'm trying to study the history of the mansion. Too many things that happen in it are unexplained. Besides us, no one has been able to come inside." He frowns. "Or so it appeared. But when I invited Georgia to come, she was able to enter. It would seem, from what I have observed, we are allowed to bring one 'guest' of our own, each." He thinks. "Georgia, did you have any trouble getting inside?"

"Well, no, Professor." She thinks. "The hardest part was the train ride over, I think. I had to leave as soon as you called me, to make the 11:45."

........11:45. Fuck. That's important. I need to scan the thread to remember why.

Okay, apparently, our memory resumes at 11:45 (taken from previous thread), and Mr. Boddy disappeared at 11:25.... And I find it odd that he went to look for the Colonel and then suddenly just forgot and went looking about. In fact, call him on that. You don't suddenly just stop what you're doing, looking for someone, to go through passages. And he doesn't exactly fit the absent-minded professor archetype.

"I wanted to make sure Georgia was safe here, I knew she'd want to know about the murder as soon as it happened. But I also knew she might accidentally interfere. The Colonel was simply an excuse to graciously excuse myself."

"Then why lie about it now? Surely it wasn't to spare the Colonel's feelings? And you're acting like there's some big secret to Boddys house, or something supernatural. Doors being troublesome to open. Not at all professional, it would seem. But why not tell us what you think is the cause of this then. As the intelligent one here, you must have an idea of what's going on."

No worries, mate. I'm really reading the fuck out of this- initially it was just LOL CLUEDOQUEST, FUN, but it's gradually turning into something far more interesting and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Real life comes first, though, so I hope whatever it is you get it settled before you come back. Kudos to you for setting it up, too! And for everyone else who's been doing an amazing job of playing and helping to figure things out.

Indeed - sadly I may miss being present for the grand finale, as I was tonight due to work.

Fellow sleuths, White is still up to something. More than anyone else, she has actually pulled something legitimately shady - Brunette is on her payroll in some manner, and she hid that. He's still on site - and he may very well be the key to this. Apprehending him for questioning may be a good idea... particularly since White made him shoo so fast, she clearly does not want that. Also, White's alibi sounds shaky at best - did the video verify her actions? During the "blackout", she'd have had time to move to Boddy, take him out, and relocate as appropriate especially since (1) she's already established being mobile, and (2) the only person verifying her alibi is herself. Playing Seduction on Plum (if it's assumed we haven't done that yet) may be a good way to make his innocence "hard fact" by the rules, but just an idea.

Regardless of if I'm on for the final chapter, kudos CM. This has been great fun, and even gave me a little inspiration for another tabletop 1-shot I intend to run soon. For the record, I firmly believe that White is the guilty party at the moment, but I'll leave "final accusations" for those who are online at go time.

It sounds like right before the "blackout" she was pushing Brunette into the secret passageway (read: crazy shit Plum was talking about). That can't be just coincedence.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. At the very least she's guilty of SOMETHING. We can't let that go until it's fully checked out, as it will bite us in the ass. Besides, what if, say, White was "plainly visible", but Brunette killed Boddy when noone was looking, at her command? White is still "guilty" of the murder in the terms of the game rules, Brunette almost seems to become more of a weapon in that thinking. Regardless, especially with her reaction, she's up to something, and we let her off now she may just get away with it.

    >>13430425

Awesome. That's exactly what I was looking for, so definitely not a wasted use. Sorry I missed having used it in reading through.
