02/18/11(Fri)20:47 No.13952193I think that so many GMs are fixated on the idea of plot twists and trying to manipulate the players into not seeing the true enemy until it's to late, they forget the effectiveness of a villain who is obviously a villain from the beginning.
Of course, part of the problem is that I've seen few players who are willing to play along. Most players tend to be genre-savvy, and many play their character genre-savvy as well, without realizing that it's really just another form of metagaming. I mean, just because YOU know that the dark-robed and sinister advisor to the king is likely a villain doesn't mean your PC knows, or would even imagine it; to his view, that advisor has been serving the king faithfully for years, so why shouldn't he be trusted? |
