I don't know how, but you were there." He raises up his metal leg, flexing the knee, and you hear the joints creak a bit. "It was the beginning of my life, almost. A rebirth." He grins over to you warmly.
"He thought of you as a son." You say, quietly.
Algers smiles, a sound almost like a whimper coming from his mouth as his lip shakes. Tears form in his eyes, and he stands, fists clenched, sobbing in the midst of the room.
"To think that my master..." He starts, his lip quivering a bit before he cries, silent sobbing, his shoulders quaking as his tears stain the dirt floor.
"Oh gods..." He puts a hand up to his eyes, wiping them. "How can I cry over something so long ago?"
"I think it's just as sad as if you were to have known then." You say, smiling gently.
"I am sorry, Mistress." He says, chuckling a bit. "I am crying in front of you, and I do not even know your name. I must seem like quite the awful leader."
"Melane Kiried." You say, smiling at him. "We have much to discuss."
"Kiried..." Algers says, sniffling a bit. "Mistress, when you... were in my master's memories, did you by chance hear the name
Darane Kiried?" |
