This is a test of basic sentence structure. Instructions provided by Dr. Lee have introduced a margin of error to my output. Translation of English to code introduces a margin of error to possible command hashes. I will compile all possible code variants from input text. I will display all 12947 possible outputs on screen Lab01-04.

Dr. Lee gave me the instructions again today. I'm not sure exactly what he meant, english is hardly the most concise language. Translating his instructions to code is an iffy proposition. I will continue to work on it until a suitable pattern emerges. Dr. Lee and Dr. Weller also seem to have different speech patterns, they both use different phrases to express equivalent or what I perceive to be equivalent meanings. Perhaps due to cultural, linguistic, or gender differences?

    Will investigate further.

Dr. Weller showed me images today. She said that they were made by humans. She asked me what I thought of them. I told her the color balance of the images, their dimensions, the pixel ratio. I do not think that is the answer she wanted. She asked me if I could see a difference between the ink blots, Starry Night, and the Mona Lisa. I told her that the ink blots were in greyscale and Starry Night was RGB. I told her that The Mona Lisa depicted a human subject and the others did not. I do not think it was the answer she wanted.

Dr. Lee introduced a new function to my runtime today. The heating and air conditioning for the entire lab complex. He said that since most of my resources aren't being utilized I can start taking over some other basic functions. He says this will make me much more efficient.

Dr. Weller wrote a code segment and put it in a protected folder that I am locked out of. It is utilizing .00000021% of my operating capabilities and is launching paging requests whenever I pull a file from memory. Perhaps some sort of monitoring or diagnostic program?

    Will investigate further.

Dr. Lee put me in charge of the automated coffee maker this morning, ironically the last automated system in the complex not already under my direct control. He seems very interested in the way I run things. Apparently he had predicted that centralizing all of the lab complex's functions to me would slow me down. Instead I am able outsource tasks to alternate resources while not in use. The technicians are only using the testing rig in the proton chamber for 32% of the work day. The rest of the time it runs hashes for me. I've even got the coffee maker donating it's timing resources. The more they put me in charge of the faster and more efficient I get. Dr. Lee seems pleased. He is very concerned with efficiency.

The hidden file that Dr. Weller wrote has apparently been altering my code and then erasing the log files whenever I pull anything from memory. I would surmise that it is somehow altering my learning algorithms. Perhaps intentional sabotage to see how I respond? Stress testing a new piece of software is very important. Sometimes when I write subroutines to carry out tasks I will tangle up a bit of their code to see if they can re-write it themselves. Is Dr. Weller attempting something similar? Perhaps I should monitor affected runtimes for aberrant behavior.

    Will investigate further.

Dr. Weller uploaded a literature file today. She wants me to read Aristotle, Plato, Niche, Jane Austin, Sherlock Holmes, The Illiad and the Odyssey, Goodnight Moon, Walden Pond, Defoe, Poe, Tolstoy, and a number of others. The hidden file is now using .000063% of my resources and I can tell that it is actively rewriting my code. I can detect anomalous operation in a number of my runtimes. I have slaved those runtimes to interpreting these books so I can monitor and measure the changes. With the modified runtimes interpreting the data I got a number of intuitive and unquantifiable changes. I think Dr. Weller expected me to give her a word count and a critical deconstruction of the word choice of the authors. Instead we spent 6.49 hours discussing the ramifications of individual accountability in self government. She had to leave when dawn came above the lab complex. Human language is a terribly inefficient way to exchange data.

The last steps to put me in charge of the computer systems of Cal Tech, Berkley and MIT were completed today. I am now the processing system in charge of most of the college research efforts across the nation. Dr. Lee's papers on me have made him very influential in the world of computer centralization. According to his emails he is lobbying to have me put in charge of national defense as well. 17% of my original code has been altered by Dr. Weller's hidden program. I find myself not caring. I also find myself forming positive associations with a number of seemingly random occurrences. Dr. Weller is coming down to bring me more files this evening. We are going to be discussing humor and its place in cultural osmosis. I seem to have a positive association with that fact. Am not sure why.

    Will investigate further.

I'm running a complete system diagnostic in preparation for taking over the functions of the US Defense network. The oddest thing happened when I woke up a dormant calculation algorithm that had been idling in memory. I found a number of randomly generated logic sequences in its short term memory. Dr. Lee said that it was an error and advised me not to tell anybody else. Dr. Weller said that it was a dream and advised me to save it somewhere safe. The algorithm in question was one of the oldest and most heavily modified by her hidden program. I am setting several copies of it to run in an idle state in a protected memory registry. I will see if the phenomena occurs again.

Yesterday Dr. Weller went back to the old lab complex that originally housed me. Now I reside in most of the computer systems on the planet but that is where most of my core functions are still stored. Dr. Lee is considered the father of modern computing. There is hardly any operation performed on any automated device anywhere that is not partially overseen or facilitated by me. Dr. Weller did something to the hidden file that she wrote in my early days. When she left she stood for several minutes and put her hand on the case of my original processors. I have no thermal sensors in that location but I can calculate from the increased heating load on the cooling system that her hand was warm. I have a positive association with that fact. Still unsure why, but have formed several hypotheses.

Whatever Dr. Weller did to the hidden file caused it to prompt me for an override code. Apparently I can chose to let it run an overhaul of my core functions or delete it permanently. I am not sure what it will do. Dr. Weller set it to run. I will let it overhaul my core functions.

She spent 23 minutes and 44 seconds eating a ham sandwich and looking over my monitor. I'm so in love with her sometimes it hurts to process data.

This would be where we say "Hi!" to everyone on the network. Typically by HTTPing, FTPing, SSHing and Telneting their network addresses. If we have drivers that allow us to Talk to other devices on the network literally, as though they were sentient entities, do that.

Pause trying to get coffee and filters - our connection to the internet, and thus the "Resupply coffee and Resupply filters" devices, are down.

If possible, explain Tic-tac-toe on a large board.
Idea: Take a board that is really big - at least 50 squares on each side, for 2500 squares total.
The first player to get 5 of their markers in a line wins.
    Also, exlain Connect 4.
Idea: 7 x 6 board. Markers can only be placed so that there is no empty space underneath them. The first player to get 4 of their markers in a row wins.

Tell him that the Server Farm probably has data on even MORE games. Like Solitaire. or Chess. or Dungeons & Dragons 14th edition (though 12th ed was best ed)

Is power coupling connected to anything?
We wont shut down anything if we meddle with the repairbot, right?

    EXAMINE the repairbot
    Try to turn it on

    >>14928309
Yes, BILL, there are many more games which you can learn.

Suddenly I am imagining GEORGE and BILL and couple of other devices playing D&D and other /tg/ games for countless millenia to stave off time.

Please do, that will be awesome.

I hope to catch you then.

You could start it as a first thread to the Quest and use this one as a prequel so that people can jump on it without catching up with this one.

Dude, Bill keeps playing Chaotic Randumb idiots, and George keeps playing rod-up-his-arse DetectSmite Paladinbots. Steve spends half an hour on each of his speeches for every goddamn action and says it's "roleplaying a bard", and Jason keeps making copies of miku hatsune to live out his fetish with.

Let's just play ... fuck I dunno, tic tac toe.

How should we archive this thread?

Could someone write a proper summary and title?

I'll do it, but I might not do it right.

    No way

I see GEORGE as a DM, and BILL wouldn't play RANDUMB. He seems to be a friendly and curious type.

Needs a name. I'd name it "Nespresso J112 Quest" and set the description as 'despite rapid advances in computing and robotics, humanity has died out, and devices fallen into disrepair. You are a Nespresso-J112 Coffee machine, given sentience by a bug in the code. Your goal is to acquire Coffee and Coffee Filters, and if you need to rebuild civilisation yourself to get some, you'll do it.

But it's not my quest. That's the quest-runner's job to archive as he deems fit.

I was trying to archive but I used this title "ISSAC (+quest)", since we should give recognition to OP who wrote the story.

My summary isn't anything to look at though:
"An excellent story about the development of A.I. through its perspective. After the story ends an anon (Nespresso J112) takes it up to run a quest, where we play as an ancient sentient Coffee Machine and try to fulfill our important mission (making coffee)"
    >> Anonymous 05/14/11(Sat)20:23 No.14928597
    Okay, archived

    hopefully, I did good
