    Let's get shit done.

Current List of Shit that needs to be done:
    Stats for the following Biomorphs:

"Flame Sprayer" biomorph, which is essentially a Flamer. Available to Warriors and Tyrant Guard.

Genestealers, Raveners, and Lictors have "Hot Body" which adds additional armor piercing and an extra point of armor.

They also have access to "Magma Claws", which increases armor piercing and damage the more rounds they are in combat with a unit or squad.

Carnifexes and Hive Tyrants both have access to "Magma Blast" that has a large blast template and does an additional round of damage to anything in the area at the end of the next turn.

They also have access to the "Flame Belcher" biomorph, which has similar stats to a dual-linked Flamer.

What also needs to be done:

    Can never have enough draw-faggotry.

    Desperately needs Write-faggotry.

    Also, general Homebrew 40k thread.

    >> Anonymous 05/28/11(Sat)22:19 No.15087066
the issue with a custom fleet of nids is that, like necrons, they lack personality. Its just a nigh unstoppable horde of hungry monstrosities.

Anything we make needs to have some level of personality to it, a savage intellect behind the hordes that actually shows through.

Now I can't say for certain where i heard/read this, but I swear that somewhere i've read that the nids, in response to the Imperium glassing planets to deny them biomass, have taken to actually 'farming' worlds rather than simply eating them whole.

Nidhoggr could very well be a fleet that terraforms planets into something the nid's can farm for resources.

Hmmm... I think I have an origin point for Nidhoggr, according to the Tigi sector map.

    "Leviathan's Rest
During the 2nd Tyranid war, a stray tendril from Hive Fleet Leviathan was spotted across the northern section of the Tiji system. Trying to replenish biomass and launch another Campaign against the Imperium, the Salamanders were sent along with a fleet of the Imperial Navy to stop any further systems from falling to the Tyranid scourge.
Master artificers crafted a high-yield Melta explosive aboard the Salamander strike cruiser. Said to be blessed by Vulcan's spirit, the projectile made its unyielding path into the Tyranid fleet, miraculously hitting the tendril's central nerve. In its final cry of pain during immolation, most if not all synaptic creatures burst into flame in the psychic backlash The result causing a Warpstorm in the path of the defeated fleet, which still burns in some parts even to this day.
    Status: Active
    Threat: Minimal (mutation)"

Remaining Tyranids survived, banded together, and went into a massive, bio-organic version of a Think Tank.

"We were all incinerated, and it hurt. Not to mention it royally fucked our asses over... I got it. Let us evolve to be FIRE PROOF. And to replenish our biomass rapidly, we shall cease using carbon based matter, and process silicate into organic life."

The results turned out to be massive, silicate based Tyranids who have an affinity to fire. And the rest was history.

You are correct in saying that the Tyranids on a singular level are indeed lacking personality.

But that does not mean that the Hive Mind doesn't adapt its Hive Fleet to unprecedented circumstances.

Let me grab my Codex to show you explanations of how each Hive Fleet Tendril has specific strategies when fighting the Imperium.

    >Turn it up to 11

Alright, so you want me to pretty much add tactics and intelligence to the Hive Fleet, right?

Well, it's kinda what I've been doing all along.

    Evolutionary Adaptations:
Mycetic Spore redundancy: Hive Fleet Nidhoggr has evolved the capacity to use meteor storms as a herald of their presence. These meteor storms seed various Tyranid creatures deep within the crust, even so deep as the Mantle, and await in a hibernation state until discovery or awakened by the Hive Mind. The results have been noted to be the most destructive form of 'Tyranoformation' known to the Imperium of Man, as the mass awakening of Tyranid subspecies shifts and destroys the crust of the planet, releasing geothermic gases and magma up to the surface and scorching the planet. The following tyranid Invasion is essentially a "Mop Up Crew", who then digests the remaining biomass, and proceeds to consume the planets entire mass.

And of course, the lack of Gaunts allows more synaptic creatures on the field, allowing a greater amount of intellect and strategy to the ground forces.

    A bit of writefagging...

It started on a clear autumn day. I had ended my shift, and was headed back to the barracks when the Global Defense Alarm sounded. Immediately the base was back on high alert, Guardsmen scrambling to their posts, grabbing their equipment and jumping into whatever transport they could find. After everyone had made it to the briefing area, we were told that a series of bizarre meteor strikes had occurred across the planet. We were to assist in humanitarian aid and ensure that the Adeptus Mechanicus could get to the various strike locations and study the impacts. We rolled out of there with the techies and were off to the closest impact site: Municipal Centre #142, where two Class II meteors and one Class III meteor had struck. We weren't optimistic about what we would find, but we had our orders, and we planned to carry them out.

    >> Anonymous 05/28/11(Sat)23:15 No.15087627
    >>15087548

After arriving at the Centre, we discovered that the meteors had impacted on the eastern edge of the city, reducing most of the financial district to dust, but sparing a good portion of the residential district. Luckily, casualties at the time were put at an acceptable 550,000, far lower than the 3.5 million which would have resulted had the meteors struck the center of the city. The Mechanicus were stationed at the edge of the impact craters, set up to do whatever they usually do, and we were given boxes of purified water and corpse rations to hand out to the local population. Clean-up and recovery took a few months, but eventually the outer portions of the city were restored to working order. Now, I'm an Emperor-fearing man, and I've never put much stock in the Omnissiah or those "machine-spirits" the Mechanicus always mumble about, but some of the stuff they discovered from the samples of the rocks and shit they took from the impact site made me a little uneasy. They tell us that they found bio-mass within the craters; more specifically, from the xenos known as Tyranids. I knew a man once, lost his arm and a good bit of his face fightin' them filthy xenos, and he always said that they were the most terrifying sight he had ever beheld. I shuddered to think that they may bear down upon us. I might have shuddered more if I had known what was to happen in the days to come.

    >> Anonymous 05/28/11(Sat)23:28 No.15087732
    >>15087627

Nearly three years after the meteor strikes, we received communications from the Tech-priests that they had made a breakthrough with the impact craters. After scanning through the earth beneath them, they had uncovered several unusual shapes within the crust of the planet. The Mechanicus had granted them some of their more sacred technologies to drill down as far as they could and try and retrieve a sample from the anomalies. They would keep us posted on their findings. A battalion was dispatched to the Centre to keep an eye on things, as civil unrest was flaring up around the anniversary of the calamity.

Seven days after the initial report from the Mechanicus, all hell broke loose. Planet-wide earthquakes rent the continents along major fault lines, resulting in massive damage to infrastructure and the population of the planet. We received frenzied reports of creatures emerging from the choking pyroclastic flows and terrifying lava geysers, but no two reports were the same, and we lost contact with nearly every Guardsmen outpost on the planet, save one: the one at Municipal Centre #142.

"Master Zaroff, I bring news of a potential hunt."

Zaroff puffed on his cigar and spun around in his ork-hide chair to face the tan and white garbed servant. "Speak then."

    "Tyranids mast-"

Zaroff waved dismissively to the head of a hive tyrant mounted above the fireplace, "Tyranids? Pfft, as if I don't already have enough those."

"My lord I do not speak of, how shall I say it, the garden variety tyranid. These beasts are of a different caliber, of your caliber my lord."

Zaroff sighed, and looked down at the images the servant had placed on his desk. He picked up the first one, depicting verdant planet of green and blue, a backwater Imperial world. Weylon IV it was called. He sighed and placed it aside and looked to the next. His eyes widened as he could clearly make out fissures oozing out lava and acrid smoke carved into the world's surface. Volcanoes erupting nonstop in a symphony of geological fury The next image was taken from ground level, a massive hulking creature standing atop the partly melted chassis of a Leman Russ.

"It has been designated Hive Fleet Nidhoggr my lord. Is it too your liking?"

From there, we received a final report from the commander in charge, complete with pictures of the foul xenos. They were far more terrifying than I could have possibly comprehended. The smallest were nearly eight meters tall, and the largest reached a staggering forty. They were clad in obsidian-like armour, jagged black claws rending flesh and tearing plasteel apart like it was paper. The most horrifying aspect of these beasts, however, was their ability to spew molten geysers of lava from within their very bodies. I saw men I had known my whole life turned to dust; I saw tanks melted, buildings reduced to ash. I saw all these things, and I know the face of fear.

Nidhoggr. The All-Consuming Flame, the Eater of Yggdrassil.

May the Emperor have mercy on me.

They also intelligently goaded the Ork Warboss Skarfang into leaving his fortress, causing a systematic collapse as they devoured the Warboss.

Could do another story if you like.
Could have the story of Zaroff being led by an Ice Serpent battalion on Glacialis Elle to a recently active volcano. A strange scene on a world covered in ice. They don't trust this man, so far from his home, but he claims to have vital intel on this situation.

Could also do a development biography of the Nidhoggr fleet, how it splintered from Leviathan, was buried beneath the crust of a world glassed over and over until nothing was left, then emerged, barely alive. They drifted about from exterminated world to exterminated world, all cleansed in holy fire before they discovered that there was one world where life persisted, despite being melted to a lump of metal. And this would be the beginning.

i think the reason most nids go for biomass to get all their nutrients is that its far easier to simply eat whats readily accessible and then move on rather than setting up shop to milk the planet for all its worth.

Humans are made up of a wide variety of molecules, and given the capabilities of nids, they will have an even wider variety and will want pretty much whatever they can get.

I could see Hive Fleet Nidhoggr as one that doesn't just eat and run. It sets up shop and savors the mineral wealth of the planet.

the 'garden variety' tyranids are the ones that are using the morphologies that have the best bang for their buck given what they have available. Nidhoggr is going to need some exotic materials to make a carapace that can actually manage to thrive under the extreme pressure and heat of the asthenosphere.

I for one would like to see tyranids covered in superconductive materials that spit lightning, and you aren't going to see that on a hive fleet that subsists only on 'fast food'

Yeah, they don't just wipe the surface clean and leave behind a barren lifeless rock. That's just the appetizer to such fleets, the real meal takes some work to get at and when they are done, the planet will be but crumbs.

"Admiral, this is Salamander 5th Company Commander Tyr'va. Can you confirm a hit? Repeat, can you confirm a hit?"
"Affirmative, Sir. A direct hit upon the nerve column. They're dead in the water sir. Psychic backlash seems to be ripping them apart and burning them to ash."
"It seems that Vulkan has truly blessed us this day. The xeno scum will be consumed by the warp. Mithras shall be cleansed in holy fire. Are there any visible survivors?"
"Negative sir, nothing but their charred remains."

    --Several years later--
Lost. It is a strange feeling, to regain a mind among scattered pieces. Fragments of what was once a whole, scattered to the winds as seeds from a dying tree. But every the seed remembers its mother, and will lie dormant. Waiting only for the time when conditions are right, when there will again be the chance to grow. And so did the tiny forms of the hive crawl through the ash. They searched for sustenance but there was none. All that remained were the fragments of their brothers, rained upon the burning world. And so, when there was nothing left to devour, they turned to the ash, consuming the tiny bits of carbon that remained. But even that was not enough. They looked to the sky but they could not yet free themselves of this place. Heaven was set just beyond their grasp. And so they turned back towards hell, and began to dig. To dig, and consume.

The topsoil of a world is rich with life, living dying and born again without ever seeing the sun. But there is no life on a dead world, and even a Tyranid cannot survive without organic matter. Or at least, no Tyrannid ever had.
But life, back in its earliest origin, came from unlife. From that which was nothing but chemical elements life came forth from nothingness. And so it was, that in the earth, nearly a mile beneath the surface of a cooling lump of metal, the small worm-like Tyrannids with no fleet to call their own found new life.
The chance was one in a trillion. That a perfect combination of pressure, radiation, and the right elements coming together would create something the galaxy had never seen. But right here, on this world, for only the second time ever witnessed, life began from nothingness again as a single cell.
And within a year it was completely consumed. But its story would not be forgotten. Because a Tyranid does not forget. When a struggle against death is found, a Tyranid recognizes its plight and accepts it into their family to be immortallized in the endless tale of evolution, the struggle of progress. To be spread among the stars that all may know its story when they too become a part of the glory of perfection.
And perfect this strange organism they did. Within a single generation the metabolic processes of the new Hive had changed. It did not need carbon, phosphorous, oxygen... It craved silicon, iron, sulfur...
The population exploded and the mind, the simple primitive mind awakened. It did not remember it's former glory. It did not recall the galaxies it traveled to reach this desolate rock. All it remembered... was the fire.

The remains of the planet drifted slowly through its orbit. To an outside observer it was nothing more than a shapeless hunk of metal. But the honey-combed structure below held a new hidden construction. In the pools of flowing iron a new Fleet was taking shape. One the likes of which the galaxy had never seen.
But it was not yet ready. A world can only hold so much metal and eventually it was not enough. But there were other ways to travel. Ways that would not be recognized until it was far too late. And so it was that, with careful aim, one after another, the capsules of stone and metal were launched, erupting from the once-smooth surface of the world on their instinctually known trajectories. They spiraled through space, looking no different from any other asteroid or meter, impacting one world after another with no trace of movements even to one watching their travel and no trace of their consumption even to one watching the surface. And eventually the expeditions returned, bringing new material, new bioforms, new life to the once-dead world of Mithras.
The ship was complete. The genepool teemed with new diversity and new direction. It was the dawn of a new age of life and the beginning of a new end. The ships launched silently, looking no different from a massive rock hurtling through space. But it moved with purpose, and from within a trillion eyes watch and waited and hungered. And with one mind, the hive looked upon the first disgusting world of blue. But it would not remain this way for long.
Silently, the three fragments segmented themselves from their mother and went off to raise a nest of their own. They would paint the skies an ashen grey. They would boil the seas and char the land. They would consume every shred of genetic diversity and elevate it to levels unimagined. And most of all, they would consume the world from within, patient and silently laying their plan so that the entire world would burn within days.
    >> Anonymous 05/29/11(Sun)01:55 No.15088877
The ship moved on, seeding countless other worlds with fragments of itself, until nothing was left of the ship. Dozens of meteorite impacted across the system without anyone blinking the eye.
But beneath the surface, they watched and they waited. Swimming through currents of fire within the dozens of worlds veins of magma, they consumed the greatest life forms of all: the planets themselves.
And then, with a single silent command from the hive mind linking each splinter of the fleet together came the call:
Now is the time to rise! Scorch the Earth, Burn the Skies, Feed, Grow, and Evolve. Consume the world and rebuild the ships a hundred times over. We will melt the worlds one by one, removing the impurities and tempering our own perfection. We are Hive Fleet Nidhoggr, and we have come to consume the galaxy in fire.

Ideas, ideas....this thread gives me so many of them..let's see:

A trooper of the 256th Valhallan Regiment brought the lho-stick down from his mouth and puffed outwards little ringlets of smoke. The year had been dull, minus a ruckus concerning some asteroids a couple of months ago, but aside from that it had been a quiet, boring, overall good year.
He flicked the lho-stick from between his fingers to let it fizzle and die on the frosty ground. The land is a frozen wasteland, rolling hills of ice and crystal, an angry ocean crystallized mid-storm.
The trooper yanked his heavy coat up over his body and continued along his patrol route.
He fell in with the rest of his squad when the world suddenly exploded in a flurry of motion, sound, and most of all, heat.
It exploded from above, hunched, bi-pedal body obsidian black cris-crossed by flowing rivulets of molten lava. It had managed to land on the Sergeant, an enormous clawed foot dripping the molten rock down onto his body. He let loose an agonizing scream as the droplets pierced his flak armour and ran straight through him.
    >> Anonymous 05/29/11(Sun)04:02 No.15090076
The monstrosity's rear set of arms looked like as needles set to pierce even the armored hull of a baneblade. Feeder tendril drooped from its face, dripping pain directly onto the old sergeant, but the things eyes, a shining crimson, were focused directly on the trooper.
The Lictor let loose a primal scream of ecstasy, once more leaping up and crashing down onto the frozen earth, pinning the trooper beneath it, dooming him to the same fate as his sergeant. When suddenly heavy lasfire pelted the beast in the head, followed by dozens of smaller las rounds. Shrugging off the blasts nonchalantly, the lictor turned and leaped forward at the Sentinel, Latching on with its clawed hands and piercing its armor with its needle like appendages. The needles bulged suddenly, a rippling motion coming forth from the base of the lictor’s back to the forefront of the needle before emptying its load into the cockpit of the sentinel.
The pilots screamed for the sheer second that they were alive, before the lava began to eat through the bottom of the sentinel. It splashed down amongst those guardsmen walking underneath it, dousing them in fire and death. The lictor extended its tendrils and fed upon the ashes before instinctually initiating its camouflage, body absorbing the dripping lava as fast as it had been expunged. It leaped away, silently, in search of more.

Not my best work, but it'll do

Since these guys actually consume inorganic matter, might they actually view Necrons as a possible food source or at least treat them differently than a typical Tyrannid?
Also if the Salamanders ever heard of the Nidhoggr fleet, would they be able to make the connection that they were even partially responsible for the fleet's creation? Because they might see it as something they need to atone for.

Hmmm... Good question. Depends on how much common sense the Salamanders might have, since Nidhoggr is spawning from exactly the same point as their decimation of Hive Fleet Leviathan. According to writefaggotry, they remember fire. Lots and lots of fire. Salamanders love fire. Nidhoggr must eat Salamanders for fire.

As in terms of Necron: If its made of matter it is edible. Unless Living Metal does something odd to their digestion processes, which I'd doubt.

--Intercepted Encrypted Intel Transmitting from Tiji Sector, three months after classified event codenamed "IGNITION"--

Analysis of world extinction event code named IGNITION on planet [CLASSIFIED], the subsequent liquidation of the world, and the emergence of the new Tyranid Hive Fleet, codenamed NIDHOGGR, have been completed.

It is speculated that the bioforms first arrived via the impact of several massive meteorites who's true purpose remained undetected for over two years. The traces of Tyrannid DNA were reported as likely remains of the incinerated Leviathan Fleet of years past and the case was subsequently closed.

Though not the first identified biomorphs, the first xeno believed to have arrived were variant strains of Magma Corers, a xenomorph not seen since the First Tyrannid war and thought obsolete. It is believed that several buried themselves into the lower mantle of the world and systematically assembled a small hive structure incubated by the molten currents of the subterranean magma flow.

What transpired in the years that followed are difficult to determine, but increased volcanic and seismic activity and a statistical increase in sinkholes point to the likelihood of intense underground activity and possibly predation of native fauna and flora.

During the first encounter, modified Raveners leading heavily equipped Carnifexes, with unique inflammable mutation of their Bio Plasma, were the first encountered life forms during IGNITION.

The traditional swarms of Gaunts were not witnessed at any time during the attack, and it is predicted that their strain may not exist within this splinter fleet. It is possible that their relatively long preparation time and preference for massive tunnels to rise suddenly and without warning from below leaves little use for infantry, using terrain to supplement their artillery.
    >> Anonymous 05/29/11(Sun)15:30 No.15094505
So... there's a Salamander successor chapter they left behind in the Tiji Sector. They specialize in underwater fighting. Wonder how that'll play out.

Also Xomula is full of weird shit. What would happen if Nidhoggr devoured their biomass, seeing as /tg/ was basically aiming to make a world more dangerous that catachan.

    >>15094505
Do you REALLY want to fathom that?
Xomula would probably be the only planet the fleet wouldn't Tyrannoform, due to the natural Flora and Fauna of that planet is constantly changing.
It could be a planet of study for the Hive Mind to adapt and evolve Nidhoggr. A Hiveworld.

    ....

Not to mention I really don't wan't to mess with Xomula due to how awesome it is already.
    >> Anonymous 05/29/11(Sun)15:37 No.15094564
The artillery were not observed directly, or at least no record survived the blitz of the invasion, but heavy melta-class artillery was witnessed to rain down from the skies, propelled from afar. The expected culprit of Tyrannofexes has yet to be documented, but extreme caution, particularly for non-heat reinforced vehicles, is advised should any encounter be made.

Analysis indicates the likelihood of Zoanthrope presence as a significant shadow was observed within the warp during the time of the assault. Whether this elusive morph was present or played any part during the assault is unknown, but the possibility of their involvement must be mentioned.

This may hint at the origins of the new fleet, possibly a result of the warp storm generated by the events at Leviathan's Rest. Though the Salamander 5th Company confirmed complete destruction of the local fleet there it is possible that there were survivors affected by the rampant warp storm.

After a period of less than a week there were no remaining survivors. Observations later confirmed that the atmosphere was completely blacked out by ash and dust so what occurred over the next month still remains a mystery. But what was observed was three fleet ships, unlike any Tyranid formation seen before, leaving the world in a plume of flames. When the dust of the atmosphere finally cleared there was nothing of value left upon the world. Every rare metal, every trace of life, stripped from the barren earth. Surface analysis indicated that the molten core of the world was completely gone, the mantle nothing but a web work for tunnels and holes, and it would only be a matter of time before it degraded in interstellar dust and nothing remained.

This fleet operates like nothing ever seen before. The do not only devour the body and soul of all that live, but entire worlds, from within. We must learn to fight this new foe, to be vigilant for the dragon below, and to save the very galaxy itself from the new flame of war.
