    GYGAX'S BONES, IT'S TG QUEST!!!!

    Last thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/17019510/

When last we left our away team of Spike Spiegal, Cheryl Mason, Douglas Cartland, Data, and a Probe Droid, Spike had been critically injured in the fight against Corvus Head, but managed to defeat the manifestation of his inner guilt anyway. Finding little else but Corvus Head's massive katana, they now stand in front of a large oaken door that is the only other exit from the massive cathedral hall save the door that led them here.

Thread Archive List/Summary/Inventory available on demand. Once we get out of Silent Hill, I will do a full recap anyway.
    >> Anonymous 11/27/11(Sun)19:17 No.17039813
Okay, have Data move into the new room, followed by Cheryl and Doug.
Spike will have to hang back, because he could die if he's in another fight.
Also, is there a way for the Probe Droid to follow in the real world?
    >> Anonymous 11/27/11(Sun)19:18 No.17039827
Oh, and Spike's been stabilized, right?
Is he able to walk, or is he going to have to stay here until we're ready to leave?
    >> OP 11/27/11(Sun)19:27 No.17039949
    >>17039813
The Probe Droid has found no other 'real world' entrances.

    >>17039827
He is stable and capable of limping along.

Data opens the door cautiously, revealing a small, dark room dimly lit by a pair of candles set into the wall. A small, opened black book lies on a stone pedestal within.
    >> Anonymous 11/27/11(Sun)19:30 No.17039984
    >>17039949
Flashlights on, begin carefully searching the room.

    Have Doug help Spike along.
Have Data scan the room, to make sure that there's not hidden traps or anything.

Once everyone's ready, have Cheryl pick up the book, see what it is. Then hand it to Data so that he can scan it and upload the contents to ANON.

    >>17039984
Data uses his tricorder and detects with it that the book is on a pressure plate. There is a flip open plate in the ceiling that seem to be connected to the panel, concealing a cluster of iron spears.

    >>17039999
Silent Hill must be slipping. It never used to go for obvious traps like that before.

Cheryl, Doug, and Spike to take cover back in the cathedral room.
Phaser set to disintegrate: disintegrate the trap door in the ceiling, and the iron spears. Then see if that katana is all its cracked up to be, and have Data slice that pedestal in half, horizontally. Then it should be safe for Cheryl to pick up the book.
    >> OP 11/27/11(Sun)19:39 No.17040094
    >>17040034
It DOES seem odd, doesn't it? Perhaps, even, out of place.

Data disintegrates the panel, causing the spears to fall around the pedestal, harmlessly embedding themselves in the floor. The Great Katana slams into the pedestal, leaving a large mark, but that is all.

    >> OP 11/27/11(Sun)19:47 No.17040193
Data reaches and picks up the book without any problems now that the trap is disarmed. The book's cover is a slate of pure, smooth ebony with no markings. There is no indication of what the interior might hold, though Data makes a mental note of what page it was opened to.

Hell, Data's tricorder hasn't detected _anything_ in here before. I've been scratching my head at people continuing to ask for him to scan things.
    This is highly suspicious.
Have Data examine the book's contents, and also report what page it was on.
    Distrust it entirely.

Have Data tricorder, and Heather/Doug check for hidden stuff in:
    The Altar
    The Confession booth

Those two places are always where you hide your phat loot.
Put Spike in charge of backtracking to look for HALTH DRAAAAANK (or just basically checking rooms we've already cleared) in case he finds something neat.

Oh well that's reassuring at least.

Let's just get to the obvious here. We've been gathering the tools for the Crimson Ceremony, which is said to be able to resurrect the dead but seems to require 'confronting the ancient gods of Silent Hill'.
I wouldn't be surprised if, in the true Silent Hill tradition, we're being played. Like, someone wants those items but can't face the trials to reach them. But what that person -can- do is manipulate the Otherworld enough to make -us- do it instead.

Strange. The book of lost memories is Green. I wonder what this book is.

Even though I don't honestly suspect her, I feel as if I must say that we haven't seen Cheryl's boss battle yet, and she definitely has someone she might want to bring back. Plus back when she was Alessa, she could manipulate the Otherworld...
The only problem is that she clearly doesn't want Doug dead, or any of us, plus we were told that this world's only hope requires Cheryl not dying. Plus she should probably know better than anyone that the Crimson Ceremony is a terrible idea.

It will take some time to work through the data. Sifting through the ashes, you find a book that is only partially burnt. It appears to contain instructions on various forms of prayer, but most of it is unreadable. At the end of it is an illustration of a priest of some sort reading from a book in front of a statue, while others pour something into a basin while a mass of people pray in front of them.

Dahlia's severed head rolls to a stop against a wall, where it blinks, grins, and keeps talking.

"Fools! Did you honestly think it would be that easy? My God has blessed me with powers beyond imagining! His Vision fills my eyes, his Desires fill my ears, his Will dominates my heart, and his Power will flow forth from my broken body to CONSUME you whole! You had the chance to take your place in the Order and you cast it aside! Now it is you who will be cast aside, like broken dolls!"

Dahlias' body begins shaking as veins of pure black begin to streak through her flesh. An oily tentacle of pure gleaming darkness suddenly rips through her neck and blindly lashes around before latching onto her decapitated head and lifting it into the air. Similar oily strands of darkness burst from her arms and legs, lifting her high into the air as she laughs madly.

Inhuman laughter brushes across your mind.

"I am one of many the denizens of this pitiful town called 'God." A brief chuckle echoes in your mind before the inhuman voice grows deeper, more ancient.

"I am the rivulets of darkness that move unseen between worlds. I was born from the nightmares of species far more ancient than the apes dwelling here in their steel and concrete caves. I was the plucker of the fruit of vice and sin. I danced from plane to plane, luring hero and villain alike to the grand testing place. I am brother to he who here lingered and left his mark on this place. I have a thousand-thousand names, many of them secret to mortals and even immortals."

I got a result on "Ebon Night." From TVTropes:

In the Discworld novel Guards! Guards! the Unique and Supreme Lodge of the Elucidated Brethren of the Ebon Night are a secret society behind the plot to summon a dragon and overthrow the Patrician. While the leader is a cunning manipulator, the members are pathetic petty-minded lower-middle class losers who mainly want to get back at people. (What they have going for them is anger.) But apparently they aren't as unique as they think... there's a whole street full of secret societies, with all the trimmings.

"Not 'someone'. A great upheaval shook the fabric of reality. In that chaos, a band of heroes seeking to halt another one of Azalin's ascension schemes instead saw an opportunity, and manipulated that scheme to their own ends. They turned his devices into a mighty beacon that pierced the mists that shielded our home from the sight of other powers. This was our second defense. The first, an ancient Pact, signed eons ago, was nullified millennium earlier by the Red Death's defiance. In mere minutes, entire pantheons assailed our plane, the gods and heroes of all the places we had plucked our fruit from, all the places we had used in our 'experiment'. While the Demiplane of Dread was being consumed whole by the conflict, I slipped out, leaving the other Powers to their fate and set myself adrift on the flow of space and time, seeking any refuge from this apocalypse."

"As I wormed my way through the space between worlds, I remembered this place, long ago marked by the Red Death in passing, this 'Silent Hill'. This place, far removed from the celestial and infernal armies that tore apart the Great Work. This place, where I can start again."

"You speak with the arrogance accustomed to your world-faring kind. The Demiplane I came from is gone, and cannot be restored, the rest of the Powers scattered or annihilated. You have not the power to change this."

The Dark Powers specifically stayed in Ravenloft because to openly move outside of its cloaking mists was to invite retribution from all of the worlds and pantheons from whom they had kidnapped heroes and villains.
Yes it was a nice prison that they didn't want to leave, but it still meant that they were contained within it because to go outside was to invite destruction, as eventually happened when they were found out.

IF what Ebon Night says is true, he doesn't really care one way or another if we "fix" everything that went wrong with this canon. In fact, he encourages it, as he is mainly interested in watching us struggle along.

If we are to deal with Ebon Night on a more permanent basis, we may have to attract the attention of godlike entities or extradimensional beings that would love nothing more than to see him/it dead, and this canon restored.

I don't suppose we have the phone number for the TARDIS on hand, do we?

    Good.
Perhaps we should beam everyone up for repairs and recuperation in the reconstruction tanks for Douglas and Spike. Cheryl needs some light medical attention in the medbay, and Data needs to be gone over by Federation engineers for repairs.

I'm not sure, but I had a boundary of going from 'tough but doable' to 'WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?' if you decided to field half your units or over.

If you fielded the Knights Inductor, they would've added a monster to the town that was a faceless eight foot tall humanoid in a shiny black carapace with two chainblades instead of forearms. The idea being they were humans that were transformed into weapons whose humanity was now questionable despite their efforts at retaining it. The boss would've been a grotesque Emperor-Corpse on a throne that would've spewed swarms of flies with barbed shells and skull-heads. If a marine fell during this battle, the flies would descend on his head and transform it in swift order into a grotesque skull-probe mockery under control of the boss.

See if ANON can link to any form of Internet service in those areas. No doubt there are emergency broadcast messages spamming over any infrastructure still standing.

They were local papers, not major papers straight from a major news outlet in a major city. Major!

    So, our options now are:

    I'm fine with both.

If we deploy entirely different teams, we could just say we're dealing with both at once. For instance, you wouldn't want Mechs and Tanks for Ravenloft and Castlevania, but they'd do just fine against zombies.
People weak to Fear, or people who aren't very strong individually, are also better suited to the Zombies - as there's less stuff that comes out of the goddamn walls and rapes you.

That said, our Heroes and many of our "I've seen some shit" veterans are well suited to Castlevania.

    So, here's the plan:
Send the Mechs, the Recruits, Star-Lord, the UNITs, BLU Team, half the White Mages, half the Aurors, that Ranger dude, and the X-commies across to the Zombie Apocalypse.

The Knights Inductor (with Darius), the other half of the White Mages & Aurors, Abjurers, Psions, Sandmen, SCPs, Tosh, and Delta Greens should be preapred to deploy to Castlevania (but not all at once).

Egon and the Farseers are staying on ship, owing to their SCIENCE! and Telepathy powers being useful there.

While it could hold SUE-Alucard, I'm wary of trying it with this being. Maybe an even bigger trap crossed with a full containment unit, but how much are we willing to give up just to try and capture it?
I think the real path is preparing for an epic 'god' battle with Cheryl in our corner and Ebon Night in the other. I think our X-COM scientists are going to have to have some time with her, the tech unlocks we have include techniques for drawing out the powers of latent psychics, and I think unlocking Cheryl's Alessa-class Silent Hill-bending alpha psyker abilities is our only real hope against this one.
