So /tg/, I was drunk, and I'm not certain if what I did was a good idea.

I woke up this morning after having passed out in my bathtub, with a notebook full of scrawled drawings and the nearly-completed skeleton of a board game.

The objective is to survive a night in a house, while collecting gear to help you survive and partying with a certain extreme dude. Now, I'm not sure where to take this; should I continue working on this obviously-insane drunken project, or should I abandon it?

In the light of day, it's not a bad idea, but I'm worried I'm taking on a project that might be a little too stupid to be entertaining.

Picture related; the inspiration for this boardgame. More mechanical details can be provided, if people would like that.

I wholeheartedly support your continuation of this enthralling setting. However, it must be a requirement that your players are at least buzzed while playing, otherwise it shall appear to seem shallow and pedantic. Good day.

if the extreme dude is in fact of crustacean origin, as your pic leads me to believe, then all of my internets.

I do in complete earnest declare this very thread sanctioned for the use of gentlemanly vernacular, and as the younger generations so repetitively put it, "swagger". As such, I implore all future posters to observe this decree and consider sharing their thoughts and opinions of the matter presented to us in such manner.

Okay, just to continue on background; the game, if my handwriting is decipherable, is CRAB NICHOLSON'S EXTREME SLEEPOVER ULTIMATE BOARDGAME SURVIVAL ADVENTURE. I may trim that down, but considering it was written entirely in capitals, underlined twice, and circled with what appears to be purple ink, I think I have to leave it.

    Basic mechanics are as follows; players choose from among several attendees to a sleepover at Crab Nicholson's home, including;
    Steve, Death's Apprentice
    Van Wizard
    Darlene the Gnome
    Mike
    Partybot X01

Each player starts with three health, a speed stat (how many spaces they can move), and a special ability. Some of these are downright illegible; apparently, Mike has the ability to "Sleepy robot understand" with about three question marks after it.

Players attempt to survive the swinging moods of Crab Nicholson, as well as kill each other off, so that they're the last ones to survive until morning.

At the start of each turn, a player draws a card from the ACTION deck. This contains events, such as tricking Crab Nicholson into leaving the room, regaining health in a certain room, or other special effects that move you around.

    Some cards are red (if I'm reading this right); they change Crab Nicholson's moods. The available moods are;
    Party Hard!
    Running Around!
    Everyone Get In Here!
    Heeeeeeere's Crabby!

I have no idea what I meant by this. I'm assuming it means that he'll attack people, give bonuses to people, and other such items.

Players can also find equipment scattered through the map, by stopping on a space with the equipment symbol. They can carry two pieces of this equipment, called SWAG, which is taken from a separate deck. It can give health, make you harder to hit, and do other random things, like giving Crab Nicholson/other players cocaine.

Hitting another player involves rolling d8s; I don't know if I should have some stats to compare to, or if they should just have a straight roll-off, modified by any random equipment they have.

kinda reminds me a little bit of "13 Deadend Drive"

    >> Anonymous 12/11/11(Sun)22:45 No.17183988
    That's really all I've got, aside from a crudely-scrawled map. It involves several locations, including;
    Bedroom
    Bathroom
    Crab Nicholson's Cave of Awesomeness
    The Secret Sex Grotto
    Hallway of Creepy Portraits
    The (W)rec(k) room
Crab Nicholson's Gallery of Arms and Armor
    The Kitchen
    Wine Cellar

With some terrible drawings of a board on there. I also doodled what appears to be a spinner with some indecipherable phrases on it, although I have no idea where I was going with that.

So, I think I have an idea, although I paused at one point to write out all the lyrics to "Puttin' On The Ritz", and scrawled out a shit-ton of event card ideas.

All right, I need to figure out how to make a spinner.

Question; would people prefer different 'stats', like 'Attack' 'Defend' and 'Speed' for all of the characters, or should I just make it a roll-off, modified by the SWAG players find throughout the game and any events influencing the game? I'm debating between the two.

What you need is multiple spinners. cause and effect spinners that change the story. Such as cause[Crab Nicholson killed the pizza guy] then effect [police arrive. Everybody hide/get outside]. Also you need to draw up an outside as well, such as Crab Nicholsons gnarly Garage/Divine driveway wombo combo and Crab Nicholsons Bodacious Backyard.
    >> Anonymous 12/11/11(Sun)23:13 No.17184349
Spinner should definitely control crab nicholson. It could determine what room he's in or how many many spaces he moves. The spinner should also control when you draw a new mood card.

Maybe each player can move their SPEED in a turn, but then they get to spin for the crab, so they can fuck over other players by moving him around or whatever.

Also, drinking should be a part of this game. Handing out drinks to apponents, getting drinks via cards, etc. You can have rules for determining who goes first via drinking games before you actually bust the board out. Could also determine starting swag. If so, make sure the board is waterproof

All right, I've managed to piece together exactly what I drank last night, by consulting a friend of mine, whom I started the evening with.

    >We began around 8:00, after finishing some studying, by polishing off a 12-pack of hard cider
    >Two bottles of imitation Champagne was located and consumed
    >At this point, we went to a small party a friend was throwing. An unknown quantity of shitty beer in cups was consumed; apparently, seven games of beer pong were won in a row by us, including a shut-out.
    >We proceeded to take shots for a short period of time; numbers vary based on witnesses
    >We were finally kicked out after I seized control of the DJ station, began scratching over some Propellerheads, and freestyled about how someone named Sarah was a bitch
    >Upon arriving back to our apartment, vodka was consumed in unknown quantities; there is an empty bottle of Icelandic vodka in my freezer, with a two-dollar bill in it.
    >More cider bottles are emptied, three broken pencils are found in the bathroom, along with the aborted sculpture of Crab Nicholson

This is what happened last night, as I have pieced it together today. I'm not sure how I'm alive, if I'm still drunk, or if this is a hallucination.

Honestly, I feel like the best way to do that would be with a list of possible drinking games to play with it. For instance, if you ever begin your turn more than 6 spaces from CRAB NICHOLSON you drink

You can make it so they can even roll 2d8 or something to determine which drinking game they should play with it

This way no one knows which character will work best for the given drinking game until after they've picked who they are.

Characters could also have a second "PARTY HARD" ability that's in effect only as part of the drinking game.

An excellent idea, but it might make the game take forever.

Is there some way to attach blank white cards to this? Maybe have the players make the "party foul" deck each time you play.

There should probably be drinking and non-drinking variants of this particular game. I feel like it could be fun to play even when people aren't drunk.

The outside will be necessary, if only to make the BARBECUE HELMET make sense. Cops showing up could be an event; the need to scatter.

Tiny crabs; good idea, or what? I feel like a bunch of crabs running around, assaulting players in the name of their father might be a bit much.

also, I like the idea of trying to balance your distance from nicolson. If you're too close he forces you to drink. If you're too far away he starts screaming at you and tries to shoot you with his handgun because he thinks you're hitting on his woman. Where you want to be is largely dependant on his current mood card.

Bitches are already an important part of this game.

Bedding one of Nicholson's Hot Crab Prostitutes in the Bedroom/Sex Grotto/Hallway gives you back a point of health. If Nicholson sees you doing this, he immediately attacks you for disrespecting his women.

I have no idea where most of this is coming from. It's as though I'm channeling a divine force, and it flowed into my notebook last night.

Assuming my liver can take it, I will try and replicate the conditions that led to the creation of this game next week, when I have finished most of my grading for the semester and have little else to do. In preparation for this, I will acquire a large case of hard cider, a bottle of vodka, pencils, some crabs to steam, and perhaps some tequila.

I only pray my death does not result.

I was thinking that the drinking game would just be determined at the start and stay constant throughout the whole thing

Party fouls would be a good. You could have one called "Fuck it, we'll do it again" which forces whoever drew it to finish their drink and then roll for a new drinking game. The game proceeds using that drinking game rather than the one it was using before.

You'll be good. Really, if you can do that without getting alcohol poisoning, you're fine. It's not like you don't do awesome things when you're drunk.

Players will need to remain fairly close to Crab Nicholson. In the drinking game variant, they will be penalized for failing to maintain proper partying distance. Another penalty will be determined for the non-drinking version.

As for drinking games . . . I think a unified ruleset is more in the vision of this game. You're going into a known quantity, ruled by the whims of fate and Crab Nicholson, noble knight of fate and partying. Other players can penalize you, force you into drinking, and cause problems, but otherwise, you know exactly what's going to happen the moment the dice first hit the board and Crab Nicholson first bursts forth from the box.

This game will hopefully work; I've already contacted a graphic designer to help me with board graphics for the test version, which we will discuss while I'm getting work finished on a tattoo this week.

Well, thank you for your help, /tg/. I will continue on this quest, and hopefully create something I can be proud of. Now, sleep is my best option, as I need to teach tomorrow, and I suspect that this hangover won't go away until then.

If anyone has anything else they want to exist in this game, let me know; I'll check to see if this is here before I head in to work tomorrow. Dealing with children while hungover is never fun, but at least I have something to sketch out when I'm not teaching.
