229 KB The Discarded - Thread the Third Meccanoid 01/19/12(Thu)04:36 No.17592472
Garbage dumps are the place where all manner of old, broken and unwanted things go to die.
Except there is one dump where things don't exactly die...

Welcome to the trash heap world of The Discarded. Here, old toys wake to new life; but it's not quite new. They know what they are, they have the experience of being bought, play and their old owners. But that is the past, the reality of the dump is what confronts them now. In this resting place of humanity's refuse, toys of all brands compete for survival.

Google Doc mini codex type thing that's currently in progress and pretty much any contribution is appreciated:

It was in the simple land of Army Men where toys go to war with other toys. The land of colors some call it. In the middle of the night a squad of Green Army Men sit around questioning an old soldier they had only met yesterday. The soldier was green, like Army Men he sat around. He was wrapped in grey cloth, his face partially melted. The group sat around a burning fire, akin to what their kids used to do during the night on camping trips. The grizzled soldier spoke aloud for all to hear, "You boys still fighting the Tans?" One private with a mangled hand answered him, "Nah, we're fighting Greys, Tans signed a truce." The wise soldier scratched the half melted side of his face as he said, "That won't last long." A green soldier who seemed to have been thrown away right after he came out the bag said, "What's your name dude."

The old veteran shifted in his grey cloak. He said, "Ranger. Just call me, Ranger." One soldier from the group spoke up, "Why you here Ranger? Miss fighting for the Green way?" Ranger shook his head. "No," he stated, "I got a story to tell." Green faces looked at each other with bewilderment. "The story is, I was out there. In the land beyond this one. Where no soldiers of colors fight. Where another empire rules. It's name, is the Brick Empire. I was travelling with a plush toy named Fluffy. Was a stuffed bunny, talked alot about her kid." One soldier interjected, "My kid's mom was a bitch. She said, If I find any toys on the floor I'm throwing them away! The kid accidentally pushed me off his couch and onto the floor, mom didn't even care what happened. She just threw me right out."

A hand of a fellow soldier was placed on the betrayed Army Man. Ranger continued on with his story, "That's sad. But I'll go back to my story. Now ya see, if you aren't of use to the Legos, they'll put you to work. If your plastic and can melt, into their molds. If your plush, get to work. If your plastic and can't melt, they make you work searching for plastic in the garbage. Fluffy and me got cornered by a group of those single file freaks. We didn't last long. I'm here to tell you boys, there is something out there. And you all, should be afraid of it."

In the earlier threads it was decided that the toys who left the dump would be drawn back to it with the chance of returning to mundanity if they resisted it too long. And though I love the idea of a paladin stuff bear wanting to return to its kid, what could they players do once they got there? Like, what questing?

Well, if say some little kid took a toy away from the junkyard or they chose to leave the junkyard to find their kid, or some new kid, there's plenty that could happen.

Maybe their presence awakens whatever it is in nearby toys that brings them to life. They awaken the other toys belonging to the kid. Some are nice, some are bad, the battle begins anew, in the kid's bedroom, and now the possibility of adults becoming aware of this strangeness is a real possibility that the players have to confront, however they choose to. Other awakened toys in the kids room might NOT care if the parents find out.

They will have to be stopped, for the sake of your new kid.

    What happens to chess pieces?
Do the black and white pieces hate eachother?
Do the pieces have a urge to protect their king at all costs?

What about 40k models? Would they go around looking for fresh paint and plastic bits along with glue to fix themselves?

What about toys that aren't actually considered toys such as those singing fish? Are they doomed to be hunted and killed for parts?
    Or glass figurines?
Bags in the shapes of teddy bears?

Let's not involve 40k in this.

    At all.

I imagine that 40k pieces come to life and have no interest whatsoever in war and just want to sit around redecorating themselves in a million different fabulous ways, and all have lisps.

    >> Anonymous 01/19/12(Thu)05:46 No.17592808
If 40k figures exist I imagine some of them talking about the glory days of being in battle since they all have memories of their past life.

When I say glory in battle I don't mean lasers and bolt rounds flying around I mean their games on table. I like to imagine the models to behave a little like their owners and be happy when a new codex came out for them.

The opposing races don't actually fight but rather argue with eachother, the only actual fighting comes in the form of rolling dice at eachother.

In the overall grand scheme of things they're too fragile, replacement pieces are rare and the models themselves are hard to find when compared to the other toys. Vehicles would probably serve as shelter at best.

In other words 40k models are just an annoyance.

    >Bags in the shapes of teddy bears?

    >aren't actually considered toys
This is a bit of a grey area, but I'd say nothing would happen to them. We're talking toys that kids actually played with would come to life.

A teddy bear bag is a bag, not a toy. Kids don't really play with them.

Not many toys have any mobility at all. Look at toy story, some of the toys with no moving parts or limbs can still hop around.

As for the thing about kids not playing with bags that look like bears I say at least a few kids would've done that. I mean it's not like the kid would care if it's meant to be a toy or not, hell kids play with sticks and call them airplanes sometimes.

Okay, hypothetically speaking: We put ANY toy or model that must be constructed with GLUE into the game. Uh-oh, their arm fell off. How ever shall we replace it? Say this were to get published through some force magic, we have rules explicitly ment for another IP, we get sued to the point of suicide. Also, with the logic of "some kid somewhere probably played with it" we'd have to include nearly everything ranging from baseballs to firearms. Also, I said NO. They're my toys and my sandbox. I dunno a model that must be constructed with glue as a character kinda sounds cool.

    Advantages

    Can have spare parts
Can use new parts replacing a melee arm for a shooty one

    Disadvantage

    Needs glue to do this
Is more fragile in this area.

why not, they're just army men with a different name.

Anyway, as for vehicles i think we should make their intelligence based on mostly size, so micro machines are individually barely intelligent, matchbox/hotwheels sized ones are about dog hores intelligence while something the size of a big tonka truck/rc car is approaching human toy levels of smarts. The exception being vehicles with faces, which are intelligent and can talk regardless of size.

If you read the old threads, there was a consensus on wargaming minis. a) they were to rigid to move too well.
    b) >implying people throw away that many.

Damn, I knew I forgot to mention something when I posted the MM hivemind. I was implying it with the hivemind. Each MM itself is about as smart as say, a worker ant.

Can we compromise about wargaming mini's and move on?

I propose this: They can talk. They're too rigid to move properly, so the slighly more flexible ones have found an old fort and have put them in there.

The fort is cross between an old folks home and something else. It's been attacked several times, and has survived due to strategy, luck and a load of crossbows on the battlements.

Wagaming mini's aren't really playable, but they're great sources of wisdom (for some reason), making them an interesting plot hook.

Right, done; we've incorporated them and can move on.

    Agreed.
I say the wisdom comes from their previous owners.

    Anyways moving on.

What about custom toys? Things that kids make themselves?

Normally these would be of low quality (The reason they were thrown out) but occasionally you get something well made that somehow made it's way to the junkyard.

Would these toys have any special ability?
Perhaps something simple such as the automatic desire to want to return to their creator?

In fact wouldn't most construction based toys be like this? Bionicles and such.
Teddy bears might remember being factory made but what do legos remember?

( Gonna drop some writefaggotry right now)
The sun's rays gleamed off the glass bayonets of Sargeant Marx's gun as he surveyed the landscape before him. Piles upon piles of rubbish rose up around him, and once again he felt how lonely he was. He hopped forward over a old chicken bone, and became aware once more of his wound. Those yellow, brick-lovin' bastards had got him real good. A good chunk of his green plastic had been heaved from his side by a piece of serrated metal wielded by one of those yellow fucks. They'd caught his men off guard, came swarming out of the mounds like...like...

    Marx swallowed.

It had not been fun. He knew he was close to the outpost now - it had been constructed inside the remenants of a half-buried dollhouse sticking out of the mounds. A forward post for Rangers like him in the field.

An hour passed and Marx managed to climb to the top of a particularly unstable mound before breathing a sigh of relief. The dilapitated, pink house that served as the outpost wasn't far away. He'd be alone in there, but safe until the next patrol group came through in a week. He was safe. He was beyond the reach of enemies, for now. He would be okay.

    And then he heard it.
    >> Anonymous 01/19/12(Thu)08:05 No.17593503
    >>17593439
The roaring sounded like the earth moving, the ground tearing open and reaching for him. He knew what it was, but it wasn't by any means a good thing. The Behemoth. The colossal trucks driven by the Humans through the mounds of this wasteland, shaping it, changing the landscape. He turned. It was huge, almost beyond the scope of the word. It lumbered on four wheels across the man-made wasteland, chugging smoke from its belly like a demon, possessed with but one desire - to destroy. In the back of this leviathan was a mound, as if the machine had lifted part of the land as if it had been nothing.

    Marx had to run.

Hopping like a mad-man, he half-ran, half-tumbled down the mound he had mounted, falling through broken glass and discarded food. He had to make it to safety, he had to make it to the outpost. He'd be safe, and this would all be over - back to base. Safety.

He reached the Outpost ( the dollhouse, half buried in the muck and grime) and dived through the lopsided windows. Slamming onto the dirt floor, Marx instantly began to crawl towards the supply box. Each second he pulled himself across the dirt floor, he could hear it approaching. He hoped it would pass. Oh please let it pass. Finally, after what seemed like a lifetime he cracked open the case of supplies - superglue, a chunk of plastic. All he needed. Hurriedly setting his gun aside, he began to work on his wound. Glue, Plastic, Hold it, hold it, hold it...

It set and he breathed a sigh of relief. Pulling himself up, he hopped hurriedly towards the window and peeked out. The truck was nowhere to be seen, gone past. He had been lucky.

And now all there was to do was wait.

I believe that the army men need a bit of sorting out.
    In my mind, the Casting Press thing shouldn't be part of the core world;
If it is then it's really really major and campaign changing. But it's not a terrible idea; so I propose that 'The Casting Press' instead becomes a kind of splatbook for The Discarded.

As for what they should be without the casting press? Simple: A few anons proposed some good ideas:
    >So you have roving bands of armed forces that exist only to wipe out the other existing bands of different colored army men. Basically Army men are Gone with the Blastwave.

    >Imagine that a single army man is little to no threat, but a squad is more dangerous, a platoon more dangerous still. The larger the force, the more trouble you're in, and god help you if you meet a battalion. With the proper numbers they're like the army men form Toy Story: preforming recon over long distances and using teamwork to accomplish goals normally impossible for toys their size. Of course, it's easier to spot a thousand of them than it is to spot one, so there's that as well.

So basically, Army men automatically form their command structure (Corporal, Sargent, Officer, etc) and then act like an army; moving across the 'countryside' attacking enemy patrols, collecting intel, etc.

In terms of 'economy' they could sell intel to others. Just say they spotted a K'nex construction crew. They would record it even though it's not the actions of enemy army men. The LEGiOn would pay well for that knowledge.
    >> Meccanoid 01/19/12(Thu)08:59 No.17593824
    >>17593768
Using the example of selling intel to the LEGiON was probably a bad one. I don't think they would do it too often as the officers would realise that encouraging the Lego Empire too much is a bad idea.

I think the legion would also see them as a threat and potential resource, and larger formations would often provoke attack.

You might see an entire battalion operating out of a major town, providing a standing garrison and patrolling the surrounding area. I also proposed in the previous thread that you might see platoons allied with the Tonka vehicles, operating as mechanized infantry escorts along their routes.

Agreed. The reason Wargaming Minis shouldn't be allowed should be their relative rarity. Sure an entire army might awaken after Yesterday's dump, but in the wake of that dump, tons of Toys are swarming the place for loot including two of the biggest factions looking for comrades or components. That army might be able to hold out while it gets it bearings, but it's going to fall pretty quick without replacement components and glue (seeing as they're made without joints). Similar groups may find themselves in this situation. See also: DnD figures, discarded Descent or similar games, certain chess sets (those that actually look like figures and for a kid whose parents only buy them intellectual toys, those chess figures are the closest things to action figures they'd get), and so on.

This is Bigfoot's work, more or less, with everyone pitching in ideas, but the quality of having "Joints" should be one like the quality of materials. Having joints makes you more susceptible to dismemberment, but it also makes it easier to replace or find spares. On the other hand, being without joints means needing glue or some other adhesive to reattach new or old limbs though they take much more force to remove. This pretty much only applies to non-Plush toys though. To put this into factional terms: Brick Men have joints. Army Men do not.

    The Die Caste

Ancient metal warriors from an earlier time, they once held a thriving civilisation in the dump, until a passing garbage truck buried their city.

The few that escaped have a nomadic existence, offering themselves as mercenaries to other toys. Most have given up hope of reclaiming the lost city, which is little more than a legend to other dump dwellers.

Practically, they are few in number, but extremely tough. Given their construction, they are almost immune to damage by any weapon available - razorblades will leave merely leave scars on their surface, blunt force won't cause lasting damage, and possess a great strength for their size. However, it is possible to overwhelm them with large numbers, so they can be captured if not killed.

first time write fag helped with the google doc. any way here is the story of the 3rd plastic war
It had rained yesterday thank the makers. The mud had held off the LEGiOn. But soon they would march. From the distribution of their forces the Cards were able to figure out where the assault was headed days in advance. The Cast. Those yellow blockheaded bastards dared to assault the heart of the Battlefield. The greens and the tans made a truce for the first time since the General. Great earthworks many inches high had quickly gone up in the past days. The LEGiOn had spent the previous weeks conquering tribes near their area. They enslaved the stuffed toys and drafted them into their army, they melted the others… With the great strength of the stuffed toy soldiers they could get thorough the earth works and save their heavy weapons for the army men. The Army Men have slowly weakened after years of warfare and now nothing could stop the advance perhaps slow it not stop it. Reinforcements from the Metropolis and various tribes were days away. The Glorious Barbie Republic of Freedom wouldn’t go anywhere with the mud. Didn’t want to ruin their dresses was the reply when asked for help.
    >> Anonymous 01/19/12(Thu)15:43 No.17597018
The Tans and Greens quickly asked The JOE, an old GI JOE doll missing his limbs. He lays in a bunker near the Cast a form advisor to the General. When asked about what they should do to defeat the legion he only said 3 words. “Nuke the Fuckers”. The Army men worked quickly a special strike force was sent to the Luna Bin. The stronghold of a bunch of sci-fi toys wanting to get to the moon or at least out of the yard. They’ve been working for years on a rocket and in the process assembled one of the largest stockpiles of heavy weapons in the Yard. The Greens and Tans worked quickly and secured the Luna Bin and the rocket. They then forced a Buzz doll to put in a set of coordinates. A Tan quickly went down the mound to a waiting RC with a walkie talkie attached to it a great treasure left by the General.
    >> Anonymous 01/19/12(Thu)15:44 No.17597025
At the same time the LEGiOn was assembled before the earth works ready to begin the assault. A lone army man named Sarge walked forward under a flag of parley, after a flag was waved from the mound signaling that the operation was a success. They met in the no man’s land between the forces Sarge a lego man with his interpreter. Sarge calmly explained to the emotionless silent lego envoy about the rocket. He also pointed out that the base of the Lego Fortress of Doom was unstable and if said rocket would impact it that entire side of their mound would collapse. Sarge could see the Lego mull it over. Damn it you yellow fuck leave just leave. The lego turn to his interpreter. The rag doll turned to sarge and began “ All will come together into the harmony that comes out of being a brick. You shall all be melted…” The sounds of Kazoos drowned out his words. There on the ridge of the mound behind the LEGiOn the stuffed toys of the Metropolis in full army gripping their hammers tightly. They had marched through the rain coming to the battlefield soggy and slow but able to fight. And there in the center of their line was Fluffy the leader of the Metropolis and glued on his helm was a 40k model. Some words drifted down from that line. “Tactical Genius bitches!” The Envoy looked stunned well as much as a lego man can look stunned. He spent several seconds thinking then turned to his interpreter who quickly translated “We shall leave for now.” As one they turned and left taking their engines of war with them. And that was the end of the 3rd plastic war.

Heh, they could go one of two ways; rusted-out veterans that tell of glory days in the Yard, or ancient war machines of unimaginable power. Maybe both, depending on their condition. They don't require power, they're pretty much indestructible, and they often had enormous pincers, which would tear apart pretty much anything on a toy scale. Don't forget a lot of those robots were about a foot high, so they're pretty much the equivalent of Titans in this game.

'Sarge' and his small squad crawled to the top of the rubbish pile. There was nothing unique about this Sargeant Army Man; quite the opposite, every Sargent inevitably went by the name 'Sarge', something of a personality quirk.

Before them lay one of the Yellows' major strongholds. Sarge and his boys had never got anywhere near this close before, let alone managed a visual. His right-hand man, Wilks, a grunt equiped with a pair of 'nocs, was murmuring the base layout, trying to commit as many details as possible to memory.
"Major structure in center, possibly barracks, machine shop to the west, at least three transports sighted. Factory in eastern sector, smoke coming from center building..." Wilks trailed off and shuddered.
"What is it son?" Sarge asked
"Chain-gang of dinosaurs, they're being dragged inside... confirm factory is for plastics processing. I see one, two, three four five, six, seven, eight, ten, eleven, thirteen vehicles on patrol, mostly scout buggies. Four APC-sized. Ah shit, heli approaching from the West, I think I see an airfield on the far side."
"Not good." Sarge grumbled. "Roger!" he barked to his radio operator, "You copy all that? Relay it. They've pulled their patrols right back, and have equipped their base for air support and mechanized infantry. Robotnik was right, they're preparing an invasion..."

making something unplayable seems silly, just a mention that they're rare and its up to the DM would be enough.

This makes the most sense. GM's discretion is the point that most matters in the end.

A reminder, eras are like modules for the setting.

    We still need... Fucking everything.

So, to that end, i'm proposing a system to use and build on: ORE. It's simple, modular, and has an easy mechanic, plus it supports a wide variety of figure types. We'll have to slightly redefine the measurements used for the Body stat, (Maybe change pounds to ounces, speed from yards to inches)

Normal toys have stats between 1 and 5, occasionally, an amazing awesome toy will have a stat

Hell, I'll even start by stating one of our typical characters:

GREEN ARMY MAN: Captain Awesome (130pts : 100 stats + 20 skills + 10 miracle) (a base army man is probably only 100 points, a starting character in low-low powered ORE is 125 pts)
    Stats
Body: 3d (he can dead lift 25 ounces, and will cover a whole foot per turn running. Not bad for a guy who is 5 cm tall)
    Coordination: 3d
    Sense: 2d
    Brains: 3d
    Command: 5d
    Cool: 4d

    Skills:
    Athletics (body): 1d
    Melee Weapon (body) (Blunt): 1d
    Climbing (coordination): 1d
    Dodge: (coordination) 1d
    Navigation (land) (brains): 1d
    Tactics (brains) 1d
    Inspire (command) 1d
    Leadership: (command) 2d
    Stability (cool): 1d

    Miracle:
Immunity: Fire (Defends, Robust, Useful outside of combat (8 pts / die) Uncommon (+0 pts / die) flaw: Temporary (only lats one round per dice level: -6 /die): 5 dice.

Captain Awesome was the only figure with his sculpt in the entire package of green army men that his boy owned. And naturally, this caused the boy to be interested in him and use him as the protagonist in many, many encounters. Under His boy's guidance, Captain Awesome rose in both rank and skill. It seemed as if his glorious heroics would never end... right up to the point where his boy left him in a municipal park sandbox. There, he was quickly buried and forgotten for nearly a month, until a caretaker raking the sand for cat shit dredged him up, and tossed him (and the cat shit) into a garbage bag with other junk.

The reason it's defaulted as un-playable is so we can move on. I mean if you have this awesome idea for a game where immobile statues spout wisdom at each other, great, you go run that.

    Meanwhile, we'll stat dinosaurs, okay?

Finally thought of something I could do, compile and work on strenghths and weaknesses for materials.

So far they don't seem the most balanced.

Plastic- Average resistance most damage types except weakness to fire. Most Common
Wood- Resistant to blades, weak to fire and rot. Rare.
Plush- Immune to blunt and falling. Weak to slashing. Common.
Metal- Weak to water for rusting. Resistant or immune to almost all else. Uncommon.
Porcelain- Weak to physical attacks, resistant to flame and electric. Rare.

    Ohgawsh (it's a Dinosaur) 131 points (75 stats, 20 skills, 36 miracle)

    Stats
    Body: 4d (With batteries, 4d+2hd)
    Coordination: 1d
    Sense: 3d
    Brains: 4d
    Command: 1d
    Cool: 2d

    Skills

    Endurance (body): 2d
    Swimming (body): 1d
    Sight (sense): 1d
    Demolitions (Brains): 1d
    Electronics (Brains): 1d
    Education: (Brains) 2d

    Miracle:
Says Indestructible Right on the Box: (Heavy Armor: Defends, Robust, Useful outside of Combat, 8 points per level.) 3 levels, 24 pts.
Batteries Included: (Hyperstat Body: +2 Hard Dice (dice are set at 10) (Full Power Only -4, Focus (1 charged C battery) -4) 12 pts

Ohgawsh was liked... he was really, really liked. A boy's first dinosaur. Above all else, he was bigger than all the other action figures and soldiers (and the boy's sister's dolls) so he was often the one seen head and shoulders (and neck, occasionally knees) above everyone else. He was rarely the star of the playtime, but almost always a part of it.

Then, one day, His boy put him up on a shelf overlooking a new piece of furniture... a desk. He was next to some old paperback books, and an autographed baseball. He stayed on that shelf for the next fifteen years, watching the boy do his homework all through high school. He changed shelves, and watched his boy again, doing cram sessions studying all throughout college. Once again, he chaged shelves, into a small apartment, and he watched his boy complete his postgraduate degree in engineering...and then, one day, the boy (who had long since become a man) wasn't home... but the girl (a woman, who loved his boy dearly) plucked him off the shelf from the boy's study, winked her nose at his bright orange paint scheme and chucked him in a trash bin.

He awoke in the dump, feeling a little betrayed, but also much better educated than many of his peers. After all, he had done almost nothing except read what his Boy had been reading, and writing, for the last fifteen years.

Just to clarify - when Army Men Awaken, are their guns and equipment usable? Can they drop their equipment? Like in Toy Story, where they could pose and use hands etc. Also, do they all hop? Or have they just forsaken bases in re-casts of soldiers? Is it only new soldiers have bases and then they get removed?
    >> Anonymous 01/20/12(Fri)21:38 No.17612953
    >>17611022
Their weapons are just chunks of plastic in their hands. For the base though, they can undergo a risky removal operation. Covered in the last thread.

And for those beginning to stat things, you need to take material into account.
    >> Anonymous 01/20/12(Fri)21:41 No.17612986

    For clarity's sake:
An army man's gun and equipment does not work. They cannot shoot anyone with tiny plastic bullets, or chuck tiny plastic grenades.

Now, Somewhere it was suggested that the guns and other things molded to their hands were as much a part of them as the hands that hold them or their big clunky base. Some army men volunteer to have these bits cut off of their hands / feet, so they can have free limbs.

I'm not fond of this idea. Personally, i prefer the toy story approach, where army men could "stow" their personal gear, on their person. So that army guy with his rifle high above his head? He could loosen the strap on it, and sling it across his back... after all, it is a part of him, and contains some of his "toy soul".

Now, there may be some army men equipment that *does* work... like binoculars, or Mins sweepers (which are really just metal detectors, a valuable commodity in the dump)... and there may be some army men who submit themselves to having their bases chopped off, melted down and reformed into useful equipment (which they keep, their base is also a part of their toy soul) i'm sure that after many decades in the dump, they probably have the means and established method for doing this sort of procedure down cold.

They have bases which get removed in a kind of surgical operation.

    Oh gods... idea... nasty idea.

Why are there so many toys at this dump?

The largest facilities in town are a boarding school and children's hospital, specializing in terminal care. They want the kids happy, comfortable, and occupied during their final days.

So many toys are thrown away because of communicable disease decontamination procedures... like the end of The Velveteen Rabbit...

It's supposed to be incinerated, but the Dump owner is unscrupulous, and just dumps the medical waste and toys of dead children in with the regular stuff.

I am in favor of the LEGiOn being a meritocracy. Great designers and builders rise to the top ranks. More creative children raised more creative Lego, and more creative Lego make better use of the LEGiOn's resources.

( edited the Porcelain Kingdom stuff, added some more fluff. Geared it towards being a mad-kingdom obsessed with the collection and preservation of knowledge)

A Kingdom ruled by Queens - old porcelain dolls, cracked and dirty with age. These fragile monarchs rule their Kingdom “like in Old Days, by Old Ways”. The Kingdom accepts almost all kinds of toys (except LEGO’s of the LEGiOn and the too high-tec, contemporary toys), so they are perhaps the most “liberal” faction within the mounds of the Scrapyard yet this is only on the surface: in truth, the Kingdom is much less free. The Porcelain Kingdom’s prime social tenant is the idea that age brings knowledge, and above all knowledge is power. The older you are, the more you have seen and survived, the more powerful you are. As such, the Kingdom has been looked to as givers of wisdom and collectors of lore. To this end, they gather around themselves any old toys, forming a gerontocracy. Here, a bunch of old (rarely sane and always completely broken, yet utterly knowledgable) toys rule, while the newer toys are forced to labor for “Great Old Days”. All are welcome, it is said, to the Porcelain Kingdom - yet not all are welcome to leave. Once a toy pledges itself to the Kingdom, it is forever bound - should that toy break, their body is taken and stored away, so that their knowledge can be preserved for eternity. Their consciousness is kept intact, so it is whispered, and rumours speak of catacombs of severed heads, kept in the dark beneath the mad Queen’s keep for as long as toys have been Awake. The Capital (and only) Domain of the Porcelain Kingdom is the Porcelain Keep. Queens live inside this warped Palace: a twisted place filled with insanity and deadly traps. In recent years, the ancient leaders of the Porcelain Kingdom become more distant from their loyal followers and their hold becomes weaker, threatening the bastion of knowledge that is the Porcelain Keep.

I have an idea for renegade Lego factions, who stick together based on their series, if they come from separate IP

IE: Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indian Jones legos each have separate factions; medieval and cowboy lego sets are still part of LEGiON

These factions, coming from movies, operate as a wandering acting troupe, bards of the trash heap. So after a renactment of The Empire Strikes Back, Lego Darth Vader and Yoda have a chat about method acting.

Usually killed on site or impressed by the LEGiON, they can serve as PCs if a player wants to be a Lego man without beign a fascist.

The Lego needs more development beyond "hurr evil" and this certainly fits the bill.

The Lego empire may be evil, but it's not facist. The Glorious Barbie Republic of Freedom is facist.

There's enough room for independent gangs and scavengers. Not all LEGO characters have to be part of the brick empire. This can be due to personal belief and hate for the brick empire or just coincidence.

Just as not every clay should be part of the overmind. I imagine clay parts being very afraid of the hivemind because they don't want to be hunted down and assimilated.

So to sum up imo factions should be just as plausible and common as independent groups of different toys.
