    299 KB Transpace Guard Quest B7: Bootleg OP !!Cuw+lR6NxOH 01/29/12(Sun)18:51 No.17725651
On a level of reality just below our own, the Crossover began. A thousand walls between fiction and the Metaworld tore open, releasing the hungry forces of Sue from their cannibalized homes. Metaworld itself- connection between Fiction and Reality, and the result of seven billion human's perception of Reality, was nearly rent apart.

In the aftermath, with millions dead and cities flattened, the Rifts existed still. The group that had managed the feat of slaying the Sues stepped forward to defend these gates between Meta and Fiction. They knew that the only way to restore stability was to keep to the Canon, as thousands of Meta inhabitants disappeared into the worlds of Fiction, intent on their own agendas.

    The name of these guardians?

    The Transpace Guard.

There are millions of millions of Canons out there. From video games, to books, to movies, to movies, traditional games, and more. The goal of the Transpace Guard is to ensure that nobody fucks with the story, and that Canon is preserved, so that the Metaverse remains stable, and no great castastrophe happens again.

Even now, valiant heroes fight to restore stability, from countless bad fanfictions, disastrous crossovers, hostile entities in the Meta, and author-self-inserts known as S.U.E.s.
But they cannot do this with strength of will alone.

Men need weapons to fight. Ships to traverse the meta. Troops to fight with. And they always need more money.
    That's where you come in.

Transpace Guard Requisitions is in charge of handling the ins and outs of weapons, troops, and equipment to the brave operatives who seek to maintain stability and wrest the Canon from the cold, dead hands of those who would harm it.

Oddly enough, not ALL equipment comes directly from requisitions. "Meta" technology, including reality emitters, transit drives, and rewriter bombs, are produced by Black OPs and Black OPs alone. But for everything else, Requisitions can handle it.

There are 6 main branches of the Transpace Guard Requisitions. The two we will be dealing with today are:

    #1.Human Resources.

This is not a nice place to be.
The goal of requisitions is to take what won't be missed from a Canon, and send it to forces that need it.
    Sometimes, People won't be missed.
Heroes, Troops, Specialists, Mooks ... all brought here for recruitment. But recruitment isn't always nice.
By speech, drugs, surgery, magic, brainwashing, false memory implanting, or even outright torture, people here are "Convinced" to work for the Transpace Guard.

What's more, Human Resources keeps on hand a stack of two useful things:
    Reconstruction units, and Soul gems.
So when a person dies, so long as their body structure is backed up and their Soul is stored, they can be rebuilt.
It's standard policy for all people working in Human Resources to wear Soul gems on their bodies,
and every day, a steady stream of people attempt Suicide, are rebuilt, and are moved immediately into re-education.

Human Resources is not a nice place.

    #2. Looting.

    Looting has two jobs.
#1: Don't fuck up the canon.
#2: Grab everything you can without violating #1.

The Transpace Guard keeps a list of worlds. Sometimes, you can't get what you need by farming or manufacturing.
It's the Looters' jobs to get Staff, unique Items, interesting Technology, Blueprints, and anything that looks like it'd be tricky to make, but easy to grab.

Looters' casualty rates are second only to Storage, because they go into worlds knowing well what they do will break the Law. but as long as it does not break the Canon, then all is well.

Looters are also paid extremely well*. Well, if they're good at their jobs.
Looters have a budget with which to Rent items, troops, and heroes.
Looters then receive Dosh as a reward for turning in their loot.
Get a lot of loot, then you get a lot of Dosh, you pay the Rent, and keep the rest for yourselves.

    Sound simple? Good.
    Get questing.

Recently, you deployed a team to Black Mesa, on request by HQ that you learn more about the mysterious G-man.
While you are there, you might as well 'jack anything that looks valuable and isn't nailed down.

Upon arriving, the G-man contacted the players with a business proposition. The players are to be the ones that ensure Eli and Alyx Vance make it out of Black Mesa safely.
The Players were able to do this, and were rewarded with information on the G-man.

Through careful planning, and proper preparation, this mission has gone smoothly so far, with much loot, and no casualties.

This quest uses a mechanism called COMMON SENSE.
If the players act without thinking, or catch a case of the herp derp, they will instead lose a bulb of COMMON SENSE, rather than TPK.
To regain a bulb of COMMON SENSE, players must be particularily smart, aware, prepared, ingenious, creative, and basically in use of their Brains. If you do something that I didn't expect, and it makes your job a lot easier, that's some SENSE right there.

You currently have 4/4 COMMON SENSE.
If you acquire 2 more COMMON SENSE while your bulbs are all full, you will have SUPERCHARGED (turn red) all 4 bulbs, and you get an upgrade!

For now, the players are enacting a PLAN to delay the nuclear weapon at Black Mesa, and give them more time to loot things.

The things the players must do in order to do this are:
    1. At the end of Apprehension, Gordon Freeman is captured by U.S. Special Forces. Take the place of the Special Forces, and stun Gordon Freeman.
    2. Adrian Shephard is unconscious after his Osprey crashes. Retrieve him.
    3. Black OPs are going to arm the nuke. Kill or Capture them.
    4. Talk to the G-man once the first three are completed.

Was a plan suggested by someone to obtain more Time for looting. You may either enact this plan, or go someplace else.
Likely location of High value targets are:
    1. Weapons Lab
    2. Teleportation Labs A-D
    3. Old Teleportation Lab
    4. Xen (Accessible once Barney Calhoun has completed his Canon, and you have visted a teleportation lab at least once)

If you wish to earn a Bulb, you may answer the following:

If you teleport directly into Special Forces, they may notice and kill your Ghost and Spectre before they get into cover. Teleporting on the roof and dropping in is a solution, but can you think of another one that would get you closer to the Special Forces, and still letting you remain behind cover?

It really depends on if we care about them noticing us, or just about cover.

If the latter, we teleport a goddamn concrete barrier in for cover.
If we want to be circumspect about it, things become more difficult. Like... teleport out a chunk of wall / structure on the outside of the room the spec ops are in, teleport our operatives into the newly created space and then teleport out a small chunk of wall for a gap to shoot our guns through.

    My thoughts at least.

Heck, if we don't care about being seen, here is a plan:
Teleport in concrete barriers for cover, then teleport in a bunch of water centered on the spec ops guys, ought to knock them around some and leave them vulnerable. Then our guys teleport in and proceed to take advantage of the chaos we just created.

"According to this watch, Freeman should be arriving in the capture room at any minute."
    "Roger."
    Alice and Bob teleport up.

A chunk of wall is silently teleported out, cover teleported in, and Water teleported on top of the enemy Special Forces to disorient them.
    Alice and Bob teleport down.

"I see no less than 5 targets on HRV, possibly more."
    "Got 5 on Radar."
The enemy are disoriented, in a room with lots of boxes/crates/shipping containers.

You have the advantage of stealth.
You have a Ghost, who can snipe, a Spectre, who can use Pulse to stun and Stun bombs, and Teleport support, which can teleport in nets, water, chunks of wall, etc. or teleport out chunks of wall.

How do you want to go about clearing the 5 enemy Spec Ops soldiers?
They are equipped with Crossbows as their only weapon, but they are extremely accurate and well-trained.

    >We could teleport out whole random chunks of the floor that the SFs are standing on. Hopefully that deals with them.
You may teleport chunks of the floor out from under some of them, but not all at the same time.
The Spec Ops can jump out of pits, but if they fall in a pit, it will give them time.

You can, of course, just crush them with rocks. But this means you will not be able to capture them alive.
The area they are in is open to the sky. Sealing off entire areas is impossible, though you can place or remove cover easily.

Unless otherwise stated, your Spectre will be attempting to hit enemies with Stun Bombs as they round corners, and your Ghost will snipe enemies if they close in too quickly.
But, there's always the opportunity for the players to be creative.

    Plan:
Teleport in the tentacle corpse on one side of the spec ops group, slightly in the air so it makes a noise coming down. I'm assuming they've either seen the tentacles in action or been briefed on them. This should cause them to back away from it, leaving them slightly bunched up. The spectre is ready for this and fires a stun bomb towards the center of the group. The ghost snipes at one of them, focusing on any who are further away from the others first.
After firing, they focus on taking cover for a moment, before returning fire.

I'm assuming that any surviving black ops will realize the tentacle is dead quickly, I'm just hoping for an immediate back-off reaction.

    Thoughts before enacting this anyone...?

We could attempt to teleport some nets on them to further disorient/incapacitate them. They'll probably regain their bearings momentarily, but trying to lift your arm when you're covered in a weighted net is harder than it sounds. We could then try to stun bomb them from a safe angle.

A more hazardous venture would be to teleport a large quantity of sand or gravel above them to bury them up to their necks. But the weight of such a large amount of such sparse material (even sand) could potentially cause serious injury.

We might even try teleporting a stun bomb above them and detonate it.

    >>17727302
All of these are a potentially good action!
You may combine Nets with Glue, to create DOUBLE NETS.
You will teleport in the tentacle to distract them.
You will try to DISABLE the enemy.

Do you wish to alter the terrain in any way, e.g. to make it more open, more closed, give your troops ramps, etc.?

If we can drop the nets on them then that should limit them enough to give our operatives the edge they need. Combined with the fact that they're still getting back up from having a bunch of water dumped over them. Wet, netted and soon stun bombed.

I wasn't going to have the ghost pull his punches while shooting. Capturing these guys would be nice, but not necessary by any means. Those that get stunned we capture, those that aren't stunned we can do away with.

Bob is patching himself up with the traditional first aid kit and Omni-tool. Let's roll to see how well he medicines.

Yes, overload it and fire at will.

If we can stun Freeman, we can teleport him back down somewhere plot appropriate at our leisure, and take a slower pace to looting, at least until the military comes in.

If we fail to stun Gordon, we just quickly grab as much loot as we can (once ghost is recovered) and prepare to get out of there (not forgetting the Xen crystal).

If they can, have them try to slow or capture him.

Possible methods: Nets, Sticky nets, Large amounts of water, Teleporting barriers around him, teleporting the ground out from under him, Teleporting stun bombs into his path (he has to slow down to turn, right?), teleporting lots of flashbangs around his path so they go off arround him,
maybe we could teleport only the armoured shin of the tentacle, using it as a giant net/scoop by putting it in gordons path, and teleport stun bombs into the entrance just after he goes in, making sure they stun him, then teleporting the whole lot out?

    It is done.
The Scientist raises the health of ADRIAN.
The Scientist raises the health of ELI.
ADRIAN must be returned here in 1 hour.

You have two objectives remaining, before you can add 1 hour (well, 45 minutes) to your total looting time here!

#1. There are 8 Black Ops in an open area with bombed out buildings, and a long tunnel leading to a Nuclear Device. You must Disarm, or Steal, the Nuclear Device.
#2. You must ask the G-man nicely for more time.

Now, 8 Spec Ops in a wide open area, vs. a Ghost and a Spectre.
It won't be easy. These ones have guns, instead of crossbows, but they can't jump up and down walls.
Two are in one bombed out building, on its ground floor.
Three are in another - two on the 2nd floor, one on the ground (1st) floor.
    Three are in the tunnel.
They are not expecting combat, but nonetheless are highly trained special forces soldiers.

You may select whatever tactics you deem fit. It's possible to get a Firing solution on the windows of the houses from a long distance, but you cannot get a firing solution on the tunnel without first entering a Courtyard (which is flanked by the buildings above).

we can teleport the wallf off those buildings to get a clear shot, and shoot from behind teleported in cover.
Maybe just teleport the roof off the buildings, then fire or teleport stun bombs in, then teleport away a section of the wall and shoot more stun bombs, making cover and walls as needed with the teleporter

we can use boxes on anything in the open

if any foes leave the buildings, box them

    the tunnel:
    teledrill another adjacent tunnel?
use the teleporter to add temporary walls every few meters along the tunnel, removing when the troops get near, using sensors to watch for foes?

Could we try reason and appeal to his self intrest?

We got eli, alyx, gordon, and adrian, and if we have a bit more time we could also snag Kleiner and lamarr for him, meaning he doen't have to worry about getting them himself.

We can take eli to a proper hospital to get the amputation done safely by using our fake ids and local cash we could steal with the teleporter, probably from a vault that won't even be opened in canon due to the 7 hour war and the portal storms.

Helping us gives him a good reputation with the guard, and an increased chance of our cooperation with his plans in the future.

He might even be able to ask the guard to deploy units specifically to aid him, meaning he reinforces ties with a useful (possible) ally.

One hour of looting time is nothing compared tho that, considering the games are supposed to take something like 11 hours each, and the events so far have gone by in under 1 hour.

The stuff we take would otherwise be destroyed by the nuke anyway, so unless he's going to go looting himself, he shouldn't care about things that get looted.

if being nice doesn't work, we also have the protagonists, although it's a poor bluff considering the guards "Donk fuck up canon" policies

    What do you guys think?

We have no intention of stopping them permanently; canon must be maintained, and in doing so, we hope that your interests at Black Mesa are also maintained. But we could use more time to do a thorough search of Black Mesa for alien specimens/research staff/Xen crystals, and a Gonarch. As such, we are going to hold on to Mr. Shepherd and Mr. Freeman for as much time as you deem acceptable.

If this is unacceptable, let us know and we will awaken Mr. Freeman and Mr. Shepherd and immediately deliver them to where they need to be (this also includes the nuke).

Well, a Terran Ghost/Spectre is worth 25 DOSH. They have capabilities beyond a normal human, have arms training, and have built-in cloaking and tertiary abilities.

Aurors are worth 50 DOSH, mostly because of their insane utility via magic. But they aren't so great at regular combat.

One Battletech Battle Armor is worth 75 DOSH. They are immune to most of any small-arms fire, are basically death incarnate for any infantry without magic or vehicle support, and generally require mech-sized weaponry or vehicle-mounted weaponry to damage. A Purifier Battle armor may cost more, as it has less armor than average, but has extensive stealth capability built in (mimetic system, sound-dampening systems).

Given Anarki's performance at Xen, and how easily he'd overpower our enemies from the first mission (excluding a few), he's basically a fusion of ALL of the TF2 combat classes (no medic or spy), AND has the ungodly dodging/accuracy ability of a professional gamer. He's also compatible with respawn technology, and has a hacker background. Alone, he'd be worth at least as much as a whole RED or BLU team, I'd amateurishly estimate. Some editor would be VERY happy to have him on the team if brute force is required with some hacker thrown in.

Vortigaunts, on the other hand, have otherworldly powers. They've been shown to foil the G-man when he went to retrieve Freeman at the start of Episode 2. This is probably why he wants the Vortigaunts, and why TG wants as many Vortigaunts as they can get.

We know there is a boss room with 3 of them. If we can distract the boss long enough to pull at least one of them out, that would be great.

I don't know how far the range is on their interference with teleportation. Depending on how the crystals are situated, we may be able to teleport out some walls / area beneath it, remove it's support and drag it away from below. We'd have to get near the boss room, but might not have to actually enter it at all. Going to go look for more details now...

    OK, from two threads ago:
    >Large ones are located at Half Life's final boss, on Xen. Prior to the boss's death, they are attached to the wall, and he guards them. After the boss's death, they have been shattered into 3 smaller pieces each, and on the floor.

Hmm... and on Xen we can't do the teleportation bullshit cheatery to make life easier.
It might just be easier to scan around for 10 vortigaunts and loot them. Same amount of DOSH.

It is required that Gordon kill that particular boss.

2 out of the three areas listed, eh? Here's what I'm guessing we'll see from these:

Xen could be a potentially rich source of Xen Crystals and xenofauna. However, we will lack the ability to teleport "heavy" items, as was revealed during our hypothetical Anarki planning. The Gonarch is located here as well.

Weapons Labs is fairly obvious. We can find experimental weaponry here, soldiers, black-ops, and more aliens. We can also find a Tau cannon here to give to one of the canon members, as that is a requirement for this canon (but since it's listed under "you've got to be trying" to mess up, we may just need to leave the Tau canon alone instead of straight out giving it to one of the protags). We may also find scientists here. However, of the weapons we can loot, only Gluon guns and "bee guns"/hive-hands are listed as having any DOSH value (2 for gluon guns, 1.5 for bee guns).

Teleportation lab could yield more small Xen crystals, with a chance of finding large ones. High ranking scientists may also reside here in large concentrations, along with their lesser counterparts.

It may be wise to expect a "boss fight" for each section. The Gonarch may be our "boss" for Xen.

Actually... if we can still just teleport out to the ship after Gordon kills the boss, that gets us 90 DOSH for minimal work (and minimal risk!).
    Let's do it.
Proceed with normal looting, but make a point of tailing Gordon as he nears this boss fight.

You can designate teleport points to be saved if you lack LoS, but only up to 10. One is currently being remembered for the Small crystal.

Unlimited vortigaunts to loot, each worth 5 DOSH.

I just think the risk vs rewards won't necessarily be in our favor.
If someone comes up with a good plan for harvesting vortigaunts from the respawning room, then it we could potentially get a TON of loot from there. Maybe teleport in as many concrete barriers / chunks as we can for cover, and arc the stun bombs over it onto the vortigaunts. The room may be too large to pull that off though.

I've actually already voted for the weapons lab, but I'm trying to make a plan for Xen vortigaunt harvesting in case we can pull it off.
    >> Anonymous 01/30/12(Mon)13:15 No.17737095
    >>17736998
Okay, worked on this a bit more.

    What we need:
    Heavy cover for our troops.
A way to herd the vortigaunts to one spot.
A way to peek out from cover for teleportation shenanigans.

Assuming we have a large room with few obstacles:
Enter stealthed and immediately head to a corner (if available, any outer wall if not). Teleport in concrete barriers on both sides (may take two teleports to do).
Alice may begin firing stun bombs over the cover at Vortigaunts, Bob watches for threats / attempts by vortigaunts to get over their cover. Lethal fire completely acceptable since they respawn.
After this basic set up is complete, we begin teleporting in man sized chunks of lava onto the other sides and corners of the room to herd the vortigaunts into a central area we can arc shots to.
We leave a safe path for Gordon Freeman to walk through the room.

Thoughts? Other methods of coralling the vortigaunts?
The lava should stay burning hot for a day or two, as a burn pile to get rid of dead branches can stay hot for 18 hours after putting the flames out, easily.

    >> Anonymous 01/30/12(Mon)14:59 No.17737980
    >>17737095
We should be able to begin shooting within 1 minute, (30 seconds each for two teleports to place cover). Further teleports are just making our attacks more efficient by limiting the floor area vortigaunts will be able to stand on. I think the lava will cool fast enough to not outright kill them on contact, but it won't be something they can stand on.
I'm not sure how many teleports we'll need to make a truly awesome vortigaunt stunning system, as it depends on the size and shape of the room they spawn in. If it's designed like a big maze of obstacles we wouldn't be able to enact this plan as the vortigaunts would have plenty of cover to hide behind.
    >> Anonymous 01/30/12(Mon)16:49 No.17739051

I'm trying not to rely on the same teleportation tricks, but lava is very effective for our purpose here.
It spreads over an area and it's really, really hot.

The only other solution I might think of would be water, as the electric attack of Vortigaunts might be dispersed when they stand in water.

How about we brainstorm plans while we wait for OP?
OP please don't take these as instructions unless they aren't stupid, i'm basically throwing plans at the wall and seeing what sticks

Maybe we can do faster insertions by using our teleporter to drill shafts down to where we want our troops, then using those shafts to get line of sight to our destination?

We should to keep an eye out for military units on the surface just before the nuke goes off, we can teleport nets onto them, or box them and teleport stun bombs onto them, then teleport them into containment just before the bomb is scheduled to go off

The guard may benifit more from us looting weapons labs, as OP said that another team would visit xen if we miss it.
I do forsee a possible problem with that though, i think the vortigaunts canonicaly break free after the games, and the factory might not be good for harvesting then.

Do we know where black mesas computer systems are kept? The data might be worth something, and if we cant get it from black mesa, there are probably backups somewhere offsite

We should put trackers on sheppard and freeman, we might want to teleport them out a second or two before the bomb goes off, gman might pay us for that?

Maybe we can loot assorted storage facilities and other things that wouldn't be missed in this canon, here's a list of what we might be able to snatch (just brainstorming):
Gun/Vehicle factories, long term weapons/vehicle storage (for bombs and chemical/bio weapons, tanks, aircraft, guns, ammo), Maybe even Aperture Science for gels and turrets?
One of our crew seems to be an alchoholic, so we might want to grab him some booze for an office party?

The seven hour war and portal storms are going to start soon, so nuclear, chemical, and bio weapon stockpiles may be lootable?

Or is that scale of looting to much for our team?
    (hurr durr loot everything?)

Regarding Freeman and Sheppard, we have to return them at a set time to continue as canon dictates. After reinsertion we leave them alone.

I'm OK going for the weapon labs. I was just trying to find the optimal Xen situation so we could get a better estimate of the best way to maximise looting. I think we could get at least a couple dozen vortigaunts if we don't get horrendous luck.

    >I do forsee a possible problem with that though, i think the vortigaunts canonicaly break free after the games, and the factory might not be good for harvesting then.
Why would this be a problem? We loot them, and brainwash them in HR. I don't think they can break free from TG requisitions. If we're worried about being overwhelmed, we can always teleport our forces out of there on pretty short notice.

The Vortigaunts will act as spotters for the Grunts.

Or, you may take a risk of your troops being Bee'd, and attempt stuns.
You may either stun Vorts first, or Grunts first. Vorts will be unable to attack vs. superior cover, but Bees -can-. However, Alien Grunts cannot see stealth, and Vorts -can-.

Your DOSH is effectively infinite, however you will earn higher fame by completing missions with less DOSH than average.

255 of each one type, after which it overflows to 0.

No, sadly. You are currently using the Small Xen Crystal's area as a random loot storage box, so that you can grab all your shit in the 30 seconds before nuke time.
    >Is there a time on stun grenades?
They are contact only. To use Telestun grenades, you must first fire them directly upwards, and teleport them away when they reach their apex.

I do not presume to speak for all the players here, but here's my input:

We should check what Anarki did to the computer systems. Since we're dealing with DELICATE and VIOLENT science stuff here, Anarki's haxxoring may have made our job potentially a lot more dangerous. If we check it out, we could save ourselves a lot of grief in the future.

I'd go Auto on the trivial encounters.

If we encounter Vorts/Grunts on our way to the weapon lab, we can easily box the VORTS first, blinding the alien grunts. Then we can stun both at our leisure, more or less.

If we encounter Vorts/Grunts combo on Xen, I think that we should attempt to stun the Vorts from cover first. Vorts can do HEAVY damage with their electricity(?) blasts. Once the Vorts are stunned, the Grunts are much less threatening.

There's a chance Anarki rigged the robots to be combatants for him to fight, and left them running when he left. we should teletunnel to likely server rooms to investigate.

For the gonarch, we can teleport its legs away for a 5 DOSH loss in value, leaving it immobile.
We could also teleport pillars or walls around it, corraling it to stun more easily.
We can also teleport cover in for our troops as needed

Can the gonarch see through our cloaks?
If it cant, we could have the hero with the stunner shoot it while the other throws flashbangs, while botrh heroes run around at range, so that it cant hear us. (prefferably with the teleported corraling in use as well)

Ghost and Spectre take cover (we'll make some if they don't have any nearby).
Teleport stuff out from under enemies, or on top of them, or otherwise harass them.
Arc stun bombs out from cover to enemies, ghost firing lethal shots at enemies that stand a real chance of hurting them.

    Tele Labs is a given.

I'm just going to toss this out there. Could either be potentially brilliant or really really really stupid.

We still have our teleportation support, right? And it can teleport a TON of stuff. Maybe we could just teleport a fuckton of material that gives off sedative vapors when burned (i.e. pot or something stronger), teleport small portions of magma on said fukhueg bundles to ignite it, then wait and see if the E-Garg starts to calm down and/or become irrationally fascinated with its hand and start giggling uncontrollably.
    >> Anonymous 01/30/12(Mon)23:52 No.17744075
We should also use the teleporter to cut away some sections from the maintenance tunnels. Specifically, we're making smaller side tunnels for cover. E-Garg will have to smash through a lot of wall to break that cover.

I'm also curious if we could get a lot of its electricity to disperse with a sudden flood of water, or maybe use that to stun it.
We could make a huge hollow area just behind a wall, attract the E-Garg to that spot, then teleport as much of that wall away as we can, to hit it with a huge blast of water.

Another thing we could try would be to ground it or its attacks somehow. Maybe teleport metal rods into places to act as lightning rods.

This sounds like a job for salt water?
what if we seal the room and suffocate it?
Maybe teleport the air out after sealing the room? (repeatedly remove air from the very top so we dont accidentally grab the creature)

If we fill the room with inert gas, salt water, nets, flashbangs, sand, or rocks, we may be able to weaken it?
we could also teleport whoever has the stunner to somewhere high up, and have them shoot in an arc away from themselves, and teleport the stunbombs into the chamber?

I wonder how it would react to the roof caving in, either collapse the roof by teleporting away supprts or teleporting away a milimeter thick later from around a few meters of the structure above it to collapse it selectively?
maybe we can teleport boulders into the upper section of the room, and betewwn us and it?

We could teleport in lots of metal, bits of powerline and other metal from around the place, to disrupt its attacks?

Based on the stunning effect, my current plan involves giving the ghost a ton of batteries. Ghosts job is to spam EMP shots at it while the spectre stun bombs it. If it wakes up and the ghost isn't ready to go again, Spectre switches to Psionic Pulse to stun it before going back to stun bombs.
If our troops start to run low on resources or take moderate or more damage, they retreat.

meanwhile, we teleport stuff around it to slow it down. Make cover for our troops (it will get destroyed eventually, but that wastes some of the E-garg's time), teleport out chunks of land from under it to make it stumble or fall...
In fact, we could use the teleport-stumble trick like an additional stun attack if it works. It would require careful targeting, but we could be constantly attempting to trip it.

But no, by the power of Plot, the thing is somehow able to shoot lightning.

    Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaax!
Nobody can quite figure out how Lightning attacks work, since by all accounts of Physics, they should be impossible.
It appears they are just one of the many things that can happen in a Canon - that electrical attacks aren't "Something with High Potential says hi to something with Low Potential", but appear to be more along the kind of magic.

Seeing as how he's not talking in ***ALL CAPS WITH AN IMPLIED OTHERWORLDLY ECHO***, I'm guessing that he hasn't quite reached the end of his canon yet. Or maybe he got better at inside voices.

    MEANWHILE...

    "You LOOTED Kali."
"Yep. That's exactly what I said."
"Well, you're sure out of Junior division now, kid."
Several paintings hang upon a wall - you may recognise them. Many Canon characters wave their goodbyes, and return to their homes.
    All except for three.
Kali is scanning the Transpace Guard's maps at superhuman speed.
Ami Mizuno (Sailor Mercury's civilian disguise) sits on a couch, looking worried. She is speaking to an Editor.
"You can't just KILL them! I know what they're doing is wrong, but there's GOT to be a better way!"
"Sorry, honey. You said it yourself. Your world is overrun by Sailor Soldiers. FAN MADE Sailor Soldiers. We're going to go in, get your friends out, and turn every single skirt-wearing monstrosity into Ash from orbit."
    "No!"
"I'm sorry, but you can't talk to a S.U.E.. You can't bargain with them, reason with them, explain them, or even contain them. In order to stop the contamination, you have to DESTROY them. Please wait here until your friends are rescued."
    And, in a closed-top stadium...
A painting to the trade district of a bustling city has people pouring in and out of it at an astonishing rate.
Easily 10,000 people pack the floor, gravitating towards an inflatable yellow "!" sign above a billboard, and a constant din of "LFG" and "LFM" is heard.

Hi, Auror. How are you holding up here? Getting the hang of the whole Transpace Guard schtick pretty well? By the way, we never asked you your name. Would you mind telling us, or otherwise telling us what we should call you (magic and truenames and all)? It feels really weird to just call you 'Auror' all the time.

Also, we're very, truly sorry for subjecting you to the circus that was our first mission. We're happy that you made it out in one piece.

    >Nightcrawler

LFG: my best guess would be a team of 2-5 people team up to accomplish something. The quality and intelligence of the people varies wildly; it could be a crackteam of mute powergamers who steamroll everything in a manner of minutes, or a bunch of idiots who can't tell their ass from their face. And everyone in between.

LFM: Bigger version of LFG. Better rewards, but more variable quality.

Hi. We haven't met, but you may have seen our operatives in the field from your time in the mansion. You know, Peter over there and Mr. Nightcrawler. How are you holding up?

Couldn't help but overhear your conversation with an editor over there. I'm sorry to say that I agree with him. But if it makes you feel any better, those fan-made Sailor Scouts aren't people so much as virtual gods that are intent on using their powers to break all of reality into worshiping them. Sadly, the chances of rehabilitating SUEs or curing them of their madness are almost negligible. But we may have a lead on how to do so, gradually.

If she's not too busy (and if she doesn't mind), ask her if she could fill us in the details of what happened in the mansion after she got summoned. Is she formally working for TG, now? Did the Grognard embark on an epic journey to retrieve his soul from the depths of hell, in which he managed to learn true strength/character and redeem himself from his neckbeard ways?

    >The Grognard

If he has indeed learned true strength/character and has mended his neckbeardy ways, ask him how he's doing.

If he's still the Grognard in every way imagineable, ask a nearby TG staff member if Agent #21 (Two-ton Twenty one or most recent incarnation) from "The Venture Brothers" is on staff. Also, if she wants to achieve real ultimate strength (and she's not a canon-essential character), mention that TG has the collective expertise of millions of masters of different fighting arts. If it doesn't disrupt canon too much, she could train to become stronger and less liable to fall victim to a well-placed sleep/paralyze/charm spell.

Tell him that, during our travels, we've learned the value of using common sense to solve problems. But we still suffer lapses in judgement more often that we'd like. Is there any advice that he can give us to open our minds or make us more likely to think of simple yet effective solutions to complex problems? Also, welcome back Metaquest OP! Didn't participate in the Bootleg OP's quest here, but from what I've read I think we can use the Common Sense mechanic very badly in the main quest to offset some... issues (OH GOD EBON NIGHT DEAR LORD THE DICE). Yay!

The common sense system seems like a good idea, preventing the less capable players from doing stupid things, and providing a minor reward for good ideas.
It also stops everyone from being punished from one persons stupidity
I hope the common sense mechanic catches on, and i think i'd like to see it used in the main metaquest.

MetaOP, do you have any idea when the next Metaquest thread is going to be?

I just realized we could have teleported cell-destroying nanites into the SUEs bodies while they sleep in their apartment, while reality emitters are outside blasting at full power.

Alternatively, we could have made several tiny gas leaks in their apartment, or teleport suitably large amounts ozone instead. So when they start to make breakfast, they unknowingly blow themselves up for us, saving us a lot of grief in the process.

I've only been a lurker in the main quest, but I started getting heavily active in the Requisitions subquest over the last two days. There were some mildly dumb suggestions earlier that day, and no one else seemed to be online to respond to Bootleg, so I took the opportunity to throw out some better suggestions.

I'll probably be active in the Main quest now.

I think that some of our problems in the main quest were also mirrored in the first Reqs quest; poor initial planning.
We were choosing our troops first, and then trying to make the scenario fit our loadout, rather than looking at the scenario and carefully choosing what troops and equipment we need to accomplish the mission. Granted, the more permanent nature of the troops in the main quest makes it harder to switch capabilities quickly. And we have less information on the areas we're heading into.
Perhaps we should heavily invest in some better information gathering tools and troops? That would let us make better plans.

And now that I think about:
Bootleg OP, what was the loadout you had in mind for the second mission? In before Minecraft Guy again.

That makes sense. I don't like the hassle of being forced to have to bring EVERYTHING along in one place all the time. Having simultaneous missions would help us go faster in the timeline.

We should really look this up. Like, have the Storm's sensor suite have replicas installed in the other ships. We should also look into having more teleporter equipment on our other ships too.

You also realize the Reading Room mishap with Spike could have been avoided altogether with enough flashlights, and a couple tricorders.

Never can have enough flashlights, rope and duct tape.

I think i've learned a lot in this bootleg metaquest, and i think we should take this knowledge to the main Metaquest. Here are some of my ideas (brainstorming time),
In the main quest we should issue:
    All troops:
Head/helmet mounted lights, one of the helmet mounted teleport aimer/hud/recorder/radio gizmos we've been using here, and training to use the teleporters effectively. Maybe nightvision goggles?

    Each squad:
A roll of duct tape and rope (or FUTURE-rope), a tricorder/other sensors, and if we can afford it, a reality emitter.
    Each ship:
    Heavy teleporter support.
A few of those Stun grenade guns with the unlimited ammo addon to be issued as needed.
    Each fleet:
    Common sense.

This particular Nameless One chose the "Become the Silent King" ending, and was looted.
There are always many versions of Canon characters, especially in video games.

    >Ask a nearby TG staff member if they know when he's going to be on break. And if we have clearance to speak with him.
Human Resources is not willing to allow you to talk to its best employee directly. This is a convenient excuse for Bootleg OP being nowhere near good enough to write TNO's lines.

    > Is there any advice that he can give us to open our minds or make us more likely to think of simple yet effective solutions to complex problems? (shameless attempt to raise COMMON SENSE by asking an ageless/deathless being with millions of experiences).
As you are not TORMENTED, the nameless one cannot empathise fully with you, or interact with you as a party member.
However, if you manage to fill 5 red bulbs, you will have different options to upgrade your COMMON SENSE.

    E.g.:
    >There is a 20% chance that a Bulb will not burn out, when the players do something dumb
    >If an action you take would supercharge a bulb, it instead supercharges 2 bulbs.
    >You gain access to POWERFUL COMMON SENSE, also called INTUITION. Deliberately using common sense now grants you a lot more information.
    >Your bulbs now start off GREEN. If your results would improve greatly by making a small change that you should have thought of, a GREEN bulb will downgrade to YELLOW.
YELLOW bulbs still stop disasterous actions, and a GREEN bulb will stop disaterous actions as well.
    Stuff like that.

    >I wonder if The Law of Inverse Ninja Strength applies in the main quest as much as it does here.
Depends on the quality of your troops. Suppose you have a rain of explosive rockets coming at your troops.
If you have a mass of rookies, most of them will die, and the law applies.
If you have a mass of regular soldiers, some will take cover, but they will still suffer large casualties.
If you have a mass of elite soldiers, they will break formation for the rockets like the parting of the Red Sea, and they will suffer the same amount of casualties as though a mass of rockets was aiming at 1 guy.

    Here was my loadout:
    Barney Calhoun (40)
    Uber Shields (15)
    Uber HUD Radar (15)
    TMAR Bomber (7)
    Hacking unit/device (5)
    Omni Tool (2)
HUD map of Black Mesa (1)
    Heavy Teleport Support (50)
    Alien Containment (15)

The plan was, basically, Attackmove with Barney and win the game.
Your suggestion ended up being better, as I would've had problems with my own bossfights (go me).

    >Tormented people

Hmm. We might want to request TNO to have a chat with Miku, when she gets back from The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing. The death of Benny seems to weigh heavily on her mind, and the TG sending her out on MORE missions in which she'll see gruesome death will only exacerbate that. If it works, we'll have an untormented/emotionally stronger Miku to return to canon (or for TG to assign to other missions), and maybe the TNO may gain a significant amount of experience (or an attribute point) for rehabilitating an android.

Before you stands a Robot girl. She seems visibly upset, and in mourning.
    >1. Say Hello
    2. Leave her alone.

    >1. "Hi. Why do you mourn?"

    >And you count yourself as a person?
    "... yes ..."

    >Then there is a person who is not feeling joy. A person who could do something about it, but *chooses* not to.

I'm thinking we need 1 or 2 more missions before we're ready to get back into the main quest. When we do come back, I am thinking we'll be skilled enough to only need only a 5 or a 7-man team per mission at this rate (thus allowing us to conduct multiple missions at a time).
