You are Elesh Phryx, rogue techpriest and captain of the Sword class frigate 'Sword of the Omnissiah'. The Omnissiah has smiled upon your recent adventures as a privateer in the Corgus sector, but such fortune seems to have waned. After reluctantly surrendering your latest find, an ancient Mars class battlecruiser, unto the Adepta Sororitas orders of the Serentus system and Magos Grumman, you find yourself with depressingly little after your battle to free the ship from a space hulk. Promises of reward aren't tangible, after all. Especially promises of reward that are only good after the promissory delivers his tithe to the Imperium.

As your crew resettles aboard 'Sword of the Omnissiah', you spend a long night with a mixture of unguents, oils, and your new plasma pistol. Restoring the masterly crafted weapon with the Omnissiah's blessings, you note an unusual mechanism that regulates the pistol's power settings; Several hours of prayer and additional unguents see the deviant modification blessed and ready to serve your will. With great care, you return the pistol to its freshly-oiled leather holster and turn your attention to the locked container sitting upon your work bench. A Jet-black granite forms the outer layer, with delicate green and blue crystals and veins lurking beneath the surface. The inner surface is likely adamantium, matching the lock that your mechadendrites explore with delicate manipulators. A simple key seems to open the lock, though you have no doubt that there are undetected features designed to defeat attempts to pick the lock. Your flesh brain relaxes as you buff several minor scuffs from the polished surface, the mineral's features resonating within your primitive psyche in a strangely enjoyable manner.

The trio of ciphered star charts respond favorably to your attempts at restoration, the ancient scrolls greedily accepting the preserving resin and prayer offered upon them. Setting the charts to dry upon plasteel plates, your studious attention finally drifts to the lone bottle. With a soft cloth, you gently polish the bottle's neck to reveal a prismatic luster. With great difficulty, you manage to read the ancient, faded label: 'Anemian Cloud 1999999.M40'. Your cogitators stumble as you realize that the bottle was sealed over two and a half millennia ago. As you stow your new possessions, the vox caster comes to life with a soft distortion of static. "Captain, Captain Wilson has contacted us via astropath. He and Magos Taylor would like you to join them upon Aquari, if we can spare the time."

    >You have 14 days before you can claim your reward in the Serentus System. The journey will take an estimated 6 days.

you are currently in the system Saregin's Path.

The Mars class battlecruiser 'Righteous Flame' is currently undergoing repairs nearby, headed by Magos Grumman and Canoness Irene. The ship will head to the Serentus system once repairs are complete. (unknown time period)

Aquari is located in the neighboring Labado system, which is part of the most direct route to the Serentus system.

"Labado is on our path, set course for the system's edge and prepare the ship for a warp jump."

You spend the warp journey attempting to map the interior of the strong box's lock, but end your work after nearly tripping one of the lock's traps. Emerging from your sanctum, you arrive upon the bridge moments before your ship tears back into reality in the Labado system. The system is abuzz with activity, though there is an uncharacteristic lack of Navy vessels lingering in system. The presence of a massive space hulk in the neighboring system might have something to do with such a rare event. As you set course for Aquari's main space dock, a message is sent from Captain Wilson.

"Glad you could make it, Captain Phryx! Magos Taylor and I are celebrating his good fortune and my continued survival, and we'd like to invite you to join us! Taylor has secured the services of a luxury yacht and has kindly reserved several rooms for you and your officers. Contact dock control for coordinates."

    Let's accept. Sounds like fun.

But we should only bring a few officers along. In the event that this is a trap/double-cross, we want our ship to still be in fighting condition.

Same goes for the crew. Grant leave to those crew members who distinguished themselves during the boarding action on the space hulk, but keep the majority of them on the ship.

"Athe, contact the dock master. I believe a vacation is in order."

Within an hour you sit across from Athe, Julin, Advi, and your chief Navigator, Teris, as your Arvus Lighter burns across the upper atmosphere of Aquari. As the flames surrounding your lander fade, your pilot gasps. "This place really is paradise." Landing upon the private yacht's stern, you are quickly greeted by Captain Wilson, Magos Taylor, and three sombreros bearing the words 'kiss the captain'. Athe and Julin both laugh and oblige the crimson words, granting Wilson and Taylor each a kiss upon the cheek while Advi looks on in detatched confusion. Navigator Teris' grizzled hand deposits the third sombrero atop your hooded skull. Captain Wilson politely gives your cheek a kiss with a smile before putting an arm around your shoulder and leading you to the yacht's top deck. After several drinks tailored to your unique physiology, you deliver the sad tale of goods won and lost to fate. Wilson and Taylor both offer a toast to your continued survival as your story ends.

"You seem to be placing too much value on a battlecruiser that you lacked the ability to support financially, Elesh. The Omnissiah has instead gifted you with contacts; ones that are in debt to your actions." advises Magos Taylor's synthetic voice.
"Speaking of debts, I believe that you do owe us a simple favor or two, Elesh." Captain Wilson grins at your confused expression, signaling the scantly clad server to bring another round of drinks. "We both gave you our shares of the Zephyr Spirit, and we'd both be willing to call everything even with say... ten cargos of sanctified promethium from the Sororitas orders." You open your mouth to respond, but Magos Taylor quickly cuts you off. "Each."

I have to agree with him. We may have lost the battlecruiser, but we've gained a deep debt with Magos Grumman and a lesser debt with the Sororitas. I'm sure we'll be duly compensated for dropping a friggin BATTLECRUISER into their laps.

To get back on topic, I say we shouldn't try to haggle, and see if we can't arrange to perhaps have that be the Sororitas's debt repaid to us. This way, our fellow techpriests each get something nice and don't feel swindled, and the sororitas only have to part with some promethium. Meanwhile, Grumman still owes us bigtime.

    about the battlecruiser

we didn't exactly have the resources to keep it. I mean, we might have pulled through, but that thing is a warship, not a trading or raiding ship.

It's great if you want to bust through a fleet, not so great if you want to pirate and trade like we currently are.
And, don't even get me started on the fuel costs.

All in all, there is really no reason to be upset over the way it all turned out - two influential organizations owe us a favour and like us and the cruiser ended up with admech - another organization that is more or less on our side and they can actually take proper care of the ship.

"What are you two planning? If I acquire the cargos and a pair of notorious privateers start using it" your eyes narrow as you allow your voice to trail off.

Wilson glances at Taylor, the silence lingering while the scantly clad server delivers the day's fifth round of drinks. You note that Wilson does not ogle the woman's body nor help himself to a playful handful of her flesh as she sets down the drinks and hurries away from the suddenly serious man. "We've both worked together for decades, and eventually it made sense to pool our resources in a common venture. Now that venture requires an application of sanctified promethium."

"For the closest captains I have for allies, I'll see what I can do. No guarantees on ten each." Both men hold steady under your poor excuse for a plasteel gaze.

    "Acceptable." States Magos Taylor.

The pair joins you in a final toast before excusing themselves, leaving you alone to gaze out upon the pristine waters of Aquari. It takes several minutes to realize that you've never actually been on a planet before. Come to think of it, you are fairly sure that most of your officers are voidborn as well. Your flesh brain chatters excitedly at the thought, demanding to have strange fantasies of swimming in an actual sea fulfilled.

Your flesh brain's fantasies shall be fulfilled! Once you locate your officers and have them join you, of course. Come to think of it, you've never really attempted to swim, though you've been told that it is similar to momentum drills in zero g training. With your cogitators combing your memory banks for swimming instructions, your flesh brain happily follows the scantly clad server as she leads you to the suite your officers occupy. With alcohol tainting your flesh brain, you find your eyes repeatedly drawn to your guide's shapely... bronzed... stationary... stationary? Attention snapping back to your guide's face, you swear by the Omnissiah that her cheeks are- Oh, you've arrived! Quickly smiling and thanking your guide, you open the door to your modest suite.

Modest. Yes, modest. Perhaps for some extravagant noble that consumes food prepared over decades by enslaved eldar and drinks only of those slave's bottled tears. Momentarily dumbfounded by the luxury of the room, you fail to notice your officers lounging beside a private beach until Athe calls for another round of drinks. Weaving your way past frivilous, opulent decorations, you arrive in time to find your XO and Master-at-Arms sporting slightly-less revealing clothing than their red-faced server, while Advi and Teris laugh at the woman's reaction. The four raise their glasses high before Julin loudly offers a purpose to their toast. "To poor Quein and the skin he'll be missing today!"

Informing the red-faced server to bring a fifth drink, you claim a cushioned seat at Athe's side. Your officers are quick to agree to your proposed swimming attempt, though Athe reluctantly seizes the returning server to aid in demonstrating proper swimming technique to her audience. Soon after, Julin and Athe have yourself and their fellows dressed in similarly scant clothing, calling the minimal clothing 'bathing suits'. Noting that Advi too is confused by this term, you question the need to bath while wearing a suit. Laughter is your response from Athe and Julin, while Teris simply chuckles before explaining that the clothing maintains your decency while swimming, further confusing both yourself and Advi.

Several hours later, you bask in the setting sunlight with your officers among the disgarded, uncomfortable 'bathing suits'. You doubt that you'll ever understand how your server can remain in such a contraption for so long, though you've studied the movements of her limbs in an attempt to learn her secret. As the sun vanishes below the planet's horizon, your crew hurries toward the warmth of heated showers and then clothing in preparation for an evening meal.

    >actions for night time?

The evening meal proceeds to forever ruin lesser meals, the flavors and textures driving your flesh brain to a near giddy state. Returning to the beach-side table, your officers politely force your servers to join in the final event of the night: a drinking contest! The table soon sports a healthy supply of alcohol, with a special bottle for Advi and yourself to compensate for your increased ability to process alcohol. Teris is the first to yield, her chin soon resting upon the table as she struggles to remain awake to view the contest's end. Next to yield is Advi, her mechadendrites wavering about her drunkenly. Again you prepare to face down Athe in a contest, though your attempts to stare her down are brought low by the presence of quickly drunk serving girls on both Athe and Julin's laps.

Several rounds pass before Athe's confidence fades and she admits defeat, the drunken woman upon her lap clearly disappointed by your XO's loss. Julin's soft smile conceals the drinking machine contained within her belly as she attempts to disarm you with a seductive wink. No, wait, she was just blinking. You think. Your flesh brain and cogitators clash as your cogitators attempt to convince your body that the world is spinning. As your cogitators recalibrate to your drunken state, your flesh brain plasteels itself with determination to defeat Julin in single combat. Or perhaps just enough to claim that drunken server and have her apply the Omnissiah's oils and unguents to your mechadendrites and cyber mantle. Lost in a series of strange thoughts, your flesh brain barely registers the next two rounds until Julin begins to slowly drift side to side. With the table, and Athe, and the rest of the world... the table feels delightfully cool against your flushed face.

Your dreams are silent that night, your eyes locked upon dark forms that move in the Omnissiah's divine, fluid motions. Greedily you study the motions, your hands and mechadendrites running along muscle groups as they contract and relax in a coordination that seems impossible. Slowly the chaos clears as you locate each muscle's anchoring points, your finger tips gliding along contracting muscles as your mechadendrites trace the relaxing pair. There is a strange beauty to the the weak flesh that techpriests shun, though the form of the flesh is still one of the Omnissiah's creations. All too soon your fragmented dream ends as darkness overtakes your senses again.

    >Knowledge of augmentation has increased!

The next morning you find yourself in a tangled mess of sheets, Athe and one of the servers from the previous day entwined nearby in blissful sleep. Confused, you recover your robe and sombrero from nearby and exit the room. Perhaps you've awoken early enough to catch a planet's sunrise. With luck, you find a third server waiting with a glass of squeezed fruit juice. Greedily consuming the delicious drink, you settle down in the pre-dawn to watch your first sunrise. As the star's rays crest over the horizon, you note a small sailing ship in the distance. And another. And another. And another...
