As the doctor draws the syringe, Johnny is getting a little uneasy
Lexi moves over to calm him down, he seems to be perfectly happy again with her presence.
The doctor plunges the syringe in to Johnny's neck, and presses the plunger, the crystalline blue substance appears to become liquid and enters Johnny's veins.
The doctor withdraws the syringe and pulls out another, clear one.
He proceeds to place that up Johnny's nose, pulling the plunger back... a green glow appears to enter the Syringe.
It is, however, tinged with bits of dark blue around the edges
"Ah! Ah! Yes! Of course, of course, the boy suffers from a malady of the psyche! Cured in a moment, not to worry my dear!"
The doctor squirts the soul out and in to a bowl, it seems to flow like a heavy gas would.

What say/do?
>>
Observe. We can learn much from this man.
>>
>>19305370

keep holding on Lexi, see of she is trembling/shocked, comfort her
>>
>>19305370

Doktor, what do these Dark Blue parts mean?

We are an Apprentice, we never learn if we don't ask.
>>
>>19305406
>>19305397
Combine these two. Observe closely, asking for explanation along the way.
>>
Learn all we can from the crazy doctor
>>
"Now, you see young Caim! This soul is slow and lethargic, much unlike your sister's as you saw earlier!"
You nod attentively
"That is down to the fact that the soul is tinged with what I like to call "Rime", this blue substance here, Rime is responsible for many problems with the human brain and is often accumulated after years of alcohol abuse. However, the occasional poor soul can be born with Rime on the soul!"
The doctor takes the soul in a bowl, and swirls it around with a white powdery substance which he sprinkles over it.
"And as you can see, if we add some simple alchemical Lime! It handily gets rid of the Rime! Oh, hehe, oh my, pardon my rhyme!"

What say / do?
>>
>>19305439
Ask what other sorts of soul-based maladies the doctor knows of
>>
>>19305439

Interesting Doktor, would you mind explaining to me exactly HOW this...disease of the soul could affect the physical being of a human?

Also take notes like a motherfucker, and gently pat Lexi on the shoulder to reassure her.
>>
Ask if the doctor can detect evil on a soul
>>

this with a force of thousand sun

"Doc, what other sorts of illnesses are caused by this stuff on the soul?"
>"Ah young man! I've yet to find an illness which wasn't linked to the soul in one way or another! The only thing I've found that isnt is simply mundane injury!"
"And... the other thing you mentioned?"
>"Ah, best we discuss that in private, young man."
The doctor then places the newly cleaned soul up Johnny's nose, he immediately turns around and grabs his sister tight
"Lex! Ah, oh Gods! Lex! I feel so much clearer, it's like I was looking at the world through a greasy lens! Thank you Doctor! I can continue my great work now, thank you for clearing the addle of my brain!"
The doctor simply stands there, basking in his praise in the manner of a maestro receiving applause

What say or do?
>>
>Come back from run
>Old thread maxed out part 2 is already up
Well, my day is going splendidly.

We need to take notes, ask questions, don't ask and you never learn.
>>
>>19305503
Say "Holy fuck, I didn't think that'd actually be so effective" and then go with doktor.
>>
>>19305503
What sort of "Great Work" are you talking about, Johnny? Can you explain it to me?
>>
>>19305503

Ask Johnny what his "great work" is... After Lexi Smothers us in thank yous of course.
>>
>>19305503

"Do you believe me now Lexi? are you still scared?"

also

"Doc I want to ask you about a certain thing, a certain man"
>>
>>19305510
The doctor turns around to Lex and Johnny
"Now, young man, young lady, would you care to give me an address for aftercare purposes?"
>"Uh, yeah sure Doc, we're staying in room 13 of the Drunken Skunk in lowtown."
"BRILLIANT!" Exclaims the doctor and quickly shoos the others out of the door while you're busy taking down notes.
Lily walks up to you "What'cha doin?"
The doc looks over and gives you a conspiratorial link and opens the curtain to the side room again.

What say or do?
>>
>>19305557
A conspiratorial wink*
>>
>>19305557
Congratulate doktor on success. Then get more information about the certain man.
>>
>>19305557

"Science"

Then head off with the DOKTOR!
>>
>>19305583
You turn to lex and say "Science!"
She laughs and starts clapping "My big bro's a scientist!" she beams at you proudly.
You walk in to the back room with the Doc
>"Young man, your next lesson may be... a little less tasteful than that heartwarming display. I'm still perfecting this next process..."

What do or say?
>>
>>19305557
"Science!"
>>
>>19305609
I am willing to learn, there is always a price to exploring new fields.
>>
>>19305609

You can't fix something without knowing all the bits and parts Doktor, this includes the bad and...less tasteful parts.
>>
>>19305609

im ready, doc
>>
Have you decapitated a zombie with a shovel Doc? Taste means nothing to me
>>
>>19305609

We can't back out now. Tell him we're ready for the next step when he is.
>>
>>19305641

oh god this
>>
>>19305609
Wait! Lily is our sister, I thought... Lexi was Johnny's sister!
>>
>>19305666

I think OP just made a little msitake there, it was lili that asked us what we were doing.
>>
"Have you decapitated a zombie with a shovel Doc? Taste means nothing to me"
>"Well, actually... this one time I... Er, well, I'm going to need you to do a bit of graverobbing my fine lad, but I imagine you'd already guessed that. There's a wheelbarrow just out back, and the graveyard is just beyond the fence, actually a rather nice place. Oh, and don't take a child... It... I don't like to see them like that it's a bit... upsetting, I'm sure you understand? And be respectful of course... we're just borrowing this body..."
"Of course Doctor! I wouldn't dare despoil the dead, I will be perfectly respectful."
You walk out back to see a fence with no gate... and a rather heavy looking wheelbarrow.

What do you do?
>>
>>19305666

>666

maybe he is just tricked by you, satan
>>
>>19305681
Yeah, that was just a brainfart typo, apologies.
>>
>>19305698
Well, we've got some grave digging to do. Try to find a nice grave, for a adult of course. Then start digging, try to find somewhere secluded so no one sees.
>>
>>19305698

Grab the wheelbarrow and get going! Also, ask for a shovel.
>>
>>19305698

row it nonchalantly of course, we are reminiscing our simple days as peasant, memories of mother flashing through, and a sick feeling in the guts when remembering "dad" and"the masked man"
>>
>>19305719
>>19305726
>>19305731

all three combined sounds good
>>
>>19305698
Take the trusty shovel and wheel barrow and go to the graveyard.

We should dig up an older grave but one that has been well looked after to minimize creature attacks
>>
>>19305698
Recalling my previous experience with a shovel, it feels good to have one in my hands again. I feel that with merely a shovel and Porkenstein, I could take on anything.
>>
>>19305726
"Uh, hey, Doc, you got a shovel?"
He nods and points to a corner of the room
It's your battle shovel!
You pick it up, hefting its familiar weight in your arms and head in to the graveyard the long way around with the wheelbarrow.
The mist dances around the headstones, the last caress given to the beloved dead.
You see a lot of Headstones, all with various ages on them, men and women
Here a "Gertrude Baltzen, Beloved by her Children, now in Atioth's gentle graces"
There a "Geoffrey Neitlicht, a caring brother, loving father, and never was a better husband had."

>Choose ages and genders, you can carry two average sized corpses at a time

What do?
>>
>>19305774
One male, one female. Somewhere between 18-30 for age if possible. Prioritize people who have been buried recently.
>>
>>19305774
Woman, 35; Man, 24.
>>
>>19305774

a husband and wife, 170 cm / 60 kg each max
>>
>>19305774

start diggin', grab the mother and the father then refill the graves with soil after to cover our tracks. Throw bodies in wheelbarrow and whistle our way home.
>>
>>19305774
Dig up the well-maintained looking grave of a woman of 40-50 years of age. As we may be bringing this body back to life, a corpse that could possibly overpower us would be a bad idea. She was almost rail-thin in life, nearly a skeleton in death.
>>
>>19305797
>>19305782
>>19305785
You notice that Geoffrey and Gertrude are both recently lost to the living. You proceed to dig both up, placing them gently in the wheelbarrow next to each other. They both look fresh, the rot has yet to set in and they both have the pale, taut complexion of the recently dead.
You fill the graves back up to be safe
Porkenstein comes out of the house, and sits solemnly in front of the graves, as though taking up a vigil of sorts...
You head back, depositing the bodies on to the tables in Doc's office, sure not to let Lily see them.

What do you do? Doc is upstairs.
>>
>>19305852

doc, dinner is ready
>>
>>19305852
Tell the Doc that we got him the bodies. No reason to delay.
>>
>>19305852
Poke both bodies to ensure they're dead. Then call the doctor to begin SCIENCE!
>>
>>19305852
Secure bodies, put blanket over bodies, grab doctor.
>>
>>19305852

Quietly go and fetch the doc. Don't want our sister to hear and see what's happening.
>>
Before we do anything else, we need to roll to disbelieve.

This is all too... Too grimbright. It is not the same world we saw before.

Look at the comedy mask half from the abomination. It's the smiling joyous half, isn't it? The mask's influence is making us see the world in an idealistic manner I reckon. The truth is probably not nearly as bright as we assume. But then, the mask will probably shift to the frowning despondent half as soon as we start resisting the mask's influence, playing into our paranoia and making us see what we want to see. So we have to resist the influence and instead see the middle ground that is reality.
>>
>>19305871
>>19305874
You strap the bodies down on the tables and fetch the doctor from studying an old tome upstairs.
The doctor prepares his tools and turns to you, saying
>"Caim, do you trust me enough to lend me your soul for this one? I ensure you, I'll have it back to you safe and sound in a jiffy!"
You can feel the porcelain comedy mask in your back pocket... It feels ... hot, and like its trying to move somehow...
Oh gods this is weird, should we tell Doc, maybe he'd know what to do?

What now?
>>
>>19305899
Porkenstein would know if something were wrong. If we can believe in anything, we can believe in Porkenstein.
>>
>>19305899
Reality is what we make it, faggot, and this shit is better.
>>
>>19305899
Grimbright is fun!
>>
>>19305899

oh don't worry, the grimdark will begin sooner or later, OP said he has a plan, for now we are in the training mode
>>
>>19305915
Sure Doc! Just fill the tank when you're done.
>>
>>19305899
Why the hell would we want to do that? Let's SCIENCE in peace with Herr Doktor until the end of our days. Things are finally looking up
>>
>>19305915
Show the doctor, ask if he knows what the mask is. Make sure to keep a FIRM grip on the mask, don't let it fly out of our grasp towards the dead bodies!
>>
>>19305915

doc, something weird is happening

reach the mask, put itin the oper
>>
>>19305940
>>19305946
>>19305931
"Uh, yeah sure Doc! But something really weird is going on, do you know what this thing is?"
You pull the mask out of your back pocket, it actually feels like its struggling against you, how the hell is it doing that?
You get a tight grasp on it
>"Oh my, where did you find that son? Oh Gods, is it fighting you? Is..no.. quickly, place it in here!"
The doctor proffers you a box, the insides of which are mirrored on every side.
You can feel the mask getting stronger, it's resisting your attempts to put it in the box!
>Roll a d10 (Whether low or high is better is a secret)

What do you do?
>>
rolled 8 = 8

>>19305977
Down, demon mask!

rolled 1 = 1

>>
>>19306000

dice god has abandoned you brother...
>>
>>19305999
Triples ten forces the mask in the box without a doubt.
>>
>>19306000
Maybe you just needed to get the trips out of your system. Luck is funny like that.
>>
>>19306023

>mfw i got triples AND 10
>>
>>19305987
You watch in horror as the mask turns to you, it's features warping from comedic smiles, to a tragic rictus grin.
You manage to place it in the box, and the Doc snaps it shut on your fingers in his rush to close it.
You prize your fingers out and watch in horror as the box bounces around on the floor, wresting itself from the Doc's grasp.
>"O.. he...he he. We don't want that out of the box, okay? It looks like it's angry now, it'll be okay if its in the box."
>"Well now, on with our work eh lad!"
The Doc's old jovial smile returns to his worn features, his face becomes the grandfatherly visage you know and love, framed by the cloudy wisps of hair at his temples.

What do you do? Do you WTF hard, or be fortuitous as fuck?
>>
rolled 3 = 3

>>19306057
We soldier on, for SCIENCE!
>>
rolled 1 = 1

>>19306057

do you need to ask? man the fuck up and ask WHAT THE SHIT IS THAT, politely

"oh doc, please enlighten me on WHAT just happened before we continue, perhaps?"
>>
>>19306057
Thank the doctor for getting that shit out of our hands. It's caused nothing but trouble.

You manage to contain and mould the raging WTF inside yourslelf in to a proper sentence
"Uh, Doc, what was that?"
>"Well... I'm not entirely sure... but it seemed bad, and it's fine now right? heh...
"Doc..."
>"Okay fine, one of those colleagues I told you about used to wear something similar... I... that man was an idiot, he never could get his experimental method down, I haven't seen or heard from him since our last professional disagreement years ago..."
"Uh...huh..."
The Doc proffers his syringe

What do or say?
>>
>>19306126
Ask about his old colleague. From his name to his methods to the nature of their disagreement.

Gotta go eat dinner, keep this thread alive, I've been in here since the creation of Porkenstein!

>>19306133
"And this... colleague of yours Doc?"
>"Alright, fine, if you really must know! He was my apprentice. He decided one day that using sould to bring back the beloved dead was beneath him. He decided that if souls could be distilled in to a pure form, why not use them for the betterment of ourselves?! He was a selfish, arrogant little dolt, and I'm glad I've not seen him since."
"And how did he want to use these souls?"
>"He pretty much just wanted to... eat them really. I caught him eating my whole soul pantry on the day of our disagreement and I... well... I kicked him out! Curse you, Tomasz, I hope you never return."
"Woah...."
>"And now... for the betterment of science?"
The Doc holds up the syringe with a pleading look on his face
Porkenstein walks back in and curls up on his bed

What do?
>>
>>19306126

make mental note to question about the colleague after the experiment, make sure the box is well secured somewhere within sight, then follow the doctor and pay attention to his lesson.
>>
>>19306190
Jab it in Doctor!
>>
>>19306190

Let the doc continue. That's enough for now.
>>
>>19306190

Stop him from injecting the syringe quite yet, and ask him if consuming souls actually makes you stronger, he could just be about to do the same thing for all we know.
>>
I think we need to possibly lay down a few moral lines for if (when?) the Doktor goes overboard in his evil experimenty necromantics. We're still heroic peasant boy, right? Right guys? Right?
>>
>>19306219

Were we ever Heroic though?

I mean, everything we have done so far is for our mother and sister, Fuck everything else.

>>19306191
You strap the box down to the desk with an old belt, it seems to have stopped struggling but, hey, can't be too careful with creepy masks right?
"Go ahead, Doc."
The Doc goes through the normal steps, and takes your soul out through your nose just like with Johnny.
>"Whaaaaaa..."
"What's wrong Doc?"
Your question is answered when you catch sight of it, your soul is black, not just dark, black... like a shadow given volume.
"W..w..I, er, is that bad Doc?"
>"Not that I know of no... I've never encountered one like this before. But there's no need to worry, all those stories about black being evil and all that nonsense, just silly I say. It shan't be a problem"

What say or do?
>>
>>19306219

I have 3 goals in this quest:

1) Protect sister.
2) Gain power.
3) Do the horizontal monster mash with that Lex girl.

Captcha: Pervier bdrm. And captcha agrees with me on the last one.

"I can explain that. I think. You see, I think I might have... Encountered your colleague, or a minion of his, and he himself was minion to some great corpse-golem ranting about the 'Old Night.' I split his face apart with my shovel; hence the mask fragment I had. Afterwards, unconscious, I encountered something... Something wrong. It called itself Etoth, the Torturer."
>>
rolled 50 = 50

Dog seems ok
Alright lets do this.
Hell doc can prolly fix anything wrong with our soul

The mannequin faggot was the one controlling the corpse-golem, when we beat his shit in with a thrown shovel the corpse golem stopped doing anything remember?
>>
>>19306284

"You may not have encountered one Doc but have you ever heard of a black soul? And is there any chance of us ... y'know... sprucing it up?"
>"I'm sure there is, ohhh yes, where there's a will there's a way. And I have heard of a black soul, through the grapevine as it were, from what I hear they're not innately different, it just means that the owner has something most don't. Think of it like a strange eye colour lad! Now, let's continue."
The Doc takes the syringe containing your soul, and plants it in to Gertrude's chest, injecting it in to her heart.
The corpse seems to go in to spasms, until the eyes open and Gertrude says "-ou doing sir?"
It almost seems like she was finishing off a sentence she was saying while she died...
She seems bewildered, but nontheless polite
The pale, taut complexion of death seems to be replaced by rosy, full cheeks.
"Er, hello gents? Where... where am I?"

What say or do?
>>
>>19306371
Dunno mate, what's it look like?

"Back in the world of the living."

>>19306371

"you have awoken from a nap per-se, if you'd be so kind and please wait on the table and observe"

idk, i'm kinda freeballin here, we don't even know what hte doc wants with the corpse and we can't exactly send a recently deceased person out of the room where they may get curious and wonder out to town.
>>
>>19306413
>>19306406
"Ma'am please do not be frightened but you have, until very recently been deceased."
The Doc looks bewildered, and you notice that your soul appears to be flowing out of Gertrude, much to her surprise, and back in to you, as though you were inhaling it.
>"Wait, wait what? This doesn't usually happen! This is marvellous! It's a miracle!"
"What Doc, what doesn't usually happen?"
>"Usually, when the soul goes back to it's original owner, the dead tend to ...die.... again ... but look... look at Gertrude, does she look dead to you?"
She certainly does not, but she does look confused
The Doc, on the other hand is literally bouncing around the room with excitement.

What do?

"Doc, what was your plan with gertrude here then? Because I clearly should not be the key to true resurrection, a lost art. So why am I suddenly the key to true resurrection?"
>"How do you know about the arts of true ressurection?"
The doctor seems confused
>"Nontheless, I don't believe that she really is alive, but my word, what a stunning simulacrum of life! No, my lad, I can't feel a pulse here, my best bet here is that we've made an intelligent, sentient member of the undead... or something. I was just planning a routine raise and observe, but my Gods Caim! What you've got there..."
The box is struggling again, its trying to get over to Gertrude from the looks.
Porkenheimer leaps on to the box and sits on it, weighing it down, wagging his tail and grinning at you as he does so.

What do or say?

Porkenstein* pardon the brainfarts gents, tired.

Dark fantasy, only god we've seen so far is a gigantic endless pit of pain, eldritch horror and disco lights, and true resurrection ain't a thang. So, evidently, true resurrection must've been a lost art, and typically healing is the domain of men of the cloth, clerics in other words, and if the clerics are weakened or powerless then the gods must be dead or ineffectual.

Of course sir. Two threads in one day is excessive for a quest. This is pretty good stuff, sir. Too many bloody quests to read in this era of /tg/ and too many that are actually good. Enjoy adding to the mountain of entertaining content that's been spawned from the resurgence of quests on /tg/.
