Spider Quest time!Sup/tg/ contains the earlier threads under the spider quest tag.1d4chan page on this quest:http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Spider_QuestYou are a little female jumping spider named Bibi currently living inside a hole in a tree, with your mate Dorpou, your eight young siblings, your newborn brood of spiderlings and your pet centipede Isaac. In addition to your family, the hole also is a home for old spider named Ranou, who agreed to let you stay there, a honorable warrior ladybug named Andor and a light headed parasitic wasp you befriended and named Chyrsi "Bubbles" McTitty. You also managed to convince the massive ancestor worshiping dragonfly you captured to work for you, who you then named Kahless Nidhogg. In the last session, you confronted the wasp forces led by large wasp named Xias that was sent to investigate the bee nest due to the tainted honey the wasps had stolen from the bees earlier.Long story short, you, with the aid of the bees, managed to kick the shit out of the wasps who were forced to retreat. You also killed the majority of the retreating wasps, with the skillful use of your spear. Only Xias and one another wasp managed to escape.
>>19419816Yay, spider quest! It's a pity we didn't get the last nameless wasp, though I think we've ruined their day for the forseable future.I say we get talking to our wasp captive. We saved her once before, and we've sort of some so again. Maybe she'll join us, or at least give is info.
>How this works.Suggest an action and then depending how feasible it is, the spider will act.You are just an ordinary spider in moder day earth. You have no special powers, other than your intellect.Making silk costs proteins, which you can restore by eating. Your mate has his own protein reserves. You both have currently 100% if your reserves. You can upgrade your nest with silk.Your nest currently has the following improvements:>Small rudimentary web nest:>Storage chamber-35 units of food, 0 chitin plates, 3 metal shards, 1 chitin armor, 2 unfinished chitin armors, 15 sheets of both green and yellow membranes.>8 slingshots.>Trap webs near the base of the tree.>Expanded Aphid pen.-5 aphids. Can hold up to 10 aphids.>Warning web at the entrance to the tree hole and warning lines.>Drop down net attached to the ceiling at the entrance.>Reinforced sticky webs at the entrance. There is also a bird's nest which contains all kinds of stuff.Your current skills:>Efficient web architecture.-The protein cost of your silk structures is reduced by 5 units. Structures costing 5 units will still cost 1 unit.>Exceptional skills with spear type weapons.-Your combat against the wasps provided you with good training in the usage of spears. Any attacks made with a spear gain 2+ on their roll. You are currently standing at the entrance of the bee nest. In the distance, you can see the two wasps fleeing. You can also see Kahless flying towards you. From the inside of the nest, you can hear the bees babbling intensively. What shall you do?
Wait until Kahless arrives i suppose.
>>19419850You are fast! Have a congratulatory spider!
>>19419854I assume that the beaten up wasp is still about? If so, go and stop the bees from murdering her. >>19419887It's everything I've ever wanted and more!
Yay, Spider quest!
>>19419907Yeah the wasp is still alive.Drawing the next pic currently.I might be a little slower at the start. Been drawing somewhat different stuff lately. Takes some time to get back to full speed.
Finally more Spider Quest!
oh sweet it's spider quest time
Fuck yes SpiderQuest! We missed you Bibi! Can we manage to take any prisoners from the retreating/wounded? If they're injured, turst them up and tryh and nurse them back to health so we can figure out what the hell to do next.
While you wait for Kahless to arrive, you decide to check back inside the bee nest.It seems that one of the wasps is still here. You recognize her as the wasp you saved a couple of days back. The bees are currently discussing what would be the most gruesome way to kill her. One is suggesting that she would be submerged in wax, other that she would be maimed and fed to the larvae, third says that they should do both things to her.Wat do?
Interrogate her.Find out if the wasps have anything big planned.
>>19420025Could we convince the bees that she would be more useful as a source of information and for insights as to how the wasps would react to a given situation.
>>19420045>>19420069You tell the bees that the wasp would be more useful alive as an information source than being dead. The bees see your point, but they are still clearly just waiting for you to finish interrogating the wasp so that they can get their turn to hurt her.You begin to ask the wasp questions.>What do you ask?
>>19420025She was the one that made fun of us, right...?
>>19420107We should also mention that the wasp is an acquaintance of ours, and she didn't participate in the fight, so we'd be rather grateful if the bees could refrain from murdering her.
>>19420107What will the wasps do next?We need some way of convincing the bees to let us take her with us. >>19420109She's the one we saved last time.
>>19420169Hey alpharius, how goes? And as far as convincing the bees to let us take her, who else in our little garden is the most adept at torture and all round terrifying as a spider (even if we don't intend to go through with that).
>>19420126>>19420169The wasp assures you that she will tell everything she knows. She is willing to do anything in order to avoid being left with the bees. She downright begs you to take herself with you.The bees however, are less happy. When you say that the wasp was an acquaintance of yours, the become suspicious. They think that it is within their right to punish the wasp.
Better have her spill everything in front of the Bees. Maybe they'll start to trust her.
>>19420279I'm good thanks. Leaving anyone alone with bubbles for a prolonged period of time is likely the most terrifying torture we can devise. >>19420305We helped save the hive, all we ask in return is custody of the wasp.
>>19420327>>19420362You tell the bees that you getting the wasp is a small payment for your help to save the hive, and besides, who says that you will be any nicer to her than the bees? The bees reluctantly agree and you begin to question the wasp in the open, but again, what do you ask?
Uh, i forgot, did we tell Kahless to bring backup?
>>19420404You did, but he is kinda late to the party.
>>19420362That'd probably just seal her fate. Why not just ask this small favour from the bees? That said, I should probably mention I haven't been here since the first time we met this wasp. Are we still a tiny spider mafia don? Or did we mend our ways?
>>19420420We're still making things go our way if that's what you mean. Also ask the Wasp how many more Wasps there are and everything that happened before they attacked the Bees.
>>19420490You ask the wasp their numbers and what happened before they came back to the bee hive. The wasp says that beyond the troops that you just killed there are about 30 other warriors, but they were far too green, so Xia took the more experienced scouts with her. Her intention was only to scout out this hive, so that she could asses the situation here, but when she saw the state in which the bees were, she decided to move in.All of her actual warriors are in the same state as the bees of this hive. She tells that when Xia's troops returned with the honey, they began to drink it in celebration, while Xia went to make her report to the queen. The honey caused the warriors to rampage through the hive, and generally mess up everything. It is lucky that they didn't share the honey, as other castes at least aren't comatose, though the hive is far from good condition right now.
>>19420618So, can one possibly reason with the wasps' queen?
>>19420635Perhaps, if you can get past the defenses.
>>19420679How many of the wasps would actually fight us if we went to their hive as soon as possible?
>>19420703Well, the 30 warriors, of course. Even if they are green, they would still defend their homes. And the workers would of course fight too. And so would the queen's body guards. And they would be on their home turf. The wasps currently have no force projection, but they are still very capable of defending their nest.
>>19420720Hmmm, okay.Let's ask our wasp if it would be possible to be granted an audience with their queen.
>>19420740"Hahah! Good joke! An audience with the queen, only Xia and the other adepts can even... Wait, are you serious about that?"
>>19420815Well it's either that or we won't be getting a peaceful solution any time soon. Also ask her about the Ants, what the Wasps know of them.
>>19420815"look into my eyes and see your answer"
>>19420815What are the wasps likely to do after the defeat they just suffered?
>>19421003>>19420870>>19420873You assure the wasp that you are serious. You also ask her about what they know about the ants. The wasp tells you that the ants her hive is at war against live under the massive structure the Giant occasionally pumps something in our out of. The ant presence is strong everywhere in the grass lands near the structure, and especially the path ways to the flowerbeds. The ants are a problem as they kill the prey of the wasps, drive other creatures away and are a constant threat, as they can climb up to the wasp's nest. You also ask her how the wasps would react to their defeat. She tells you that Xia is prideful, and losing basically all the experienced scouts of the hive would be pretty embarrassing. She will most likely try to gather up another strike force, so that she could reclaim her pride and honor by squashing something smaller. "She will try to find you so she can take her revenge."
>>19421076Why, exactly, are the wasps and ants at war?
>>19421095"Beyond the reasons I gave you, dunno. It has been going on for generations."
Would it be safe for her to return to her hive?Or would the other Wasps kill her?
>>19421159Did we ever ask for the wasp's name?
>>19421200She begs you not to return her back the the hive. Xia would kill her for not helping her sisters in the fight and for returning from a fight alive, again. That is why she has told you all this stuff. She has no intentions of going back to her hive.>>19421211She says that her name is Shelq.
>>19421076>"She will try to find you so she can take her revenge."Well then, we best do something about that. Lay some sort of trap between the wasp hive and our home? A web perhaps?>>19421200>Or would the other Wasps kill her?Of course, she would be welcome to join our motley crew if she wished. We couldn't promise her much, other than somewhere to sleep, and food in exchange for work, but it beats being executed for desertion.
>>19421298If I take you with me, I have your guarantee that you will not reveal the location of my hideout?
>>19421298Well, I guess that'll make you a part of the family. We do already have a wasp, though.
And the Bees would not be ready to let her stay around the hive in exchange for her helping out any way she can? Fix some of the damage the Wasps have done? Maybe teach them fighting?
>>19421350I doubt it. Even if the bees agreed to it, Shelq would probably have a tragic accident in the near future.
>>19421371Yeah, spontaneous dismemberment.
We can't trust her. She's a fucking wasp, if we let her KNOW where our hideout is, what the FUCK makes you guys think she won't immediately run away to tell that Xia bitch in the hopes of being accepted back into the Wasp hive?
>>19421435Don't we already have a wasp in our hideout?
>>19421435Which is why i want her to stay with / around the bees.Maybe we should ask Kahless and whoever he brought for backup for input? They must be getting pretty bored anyway.
"Really! You would take me with you! Thank you so much! I promise to act well and work really hard and not tell the other wasps were we live!"The bees seem rather disappointed, but don't actually protest your decision to take the wasp with you.
>>19421453Bubbles isn't a hive wasp.
>>19421453Bubbles is a different species and has had bad experiences with the Hiver Wasp.>>19421456Watch her like a fucking Hawk, never out-right hostile or distrusting just, keep a fucking close eye on her.
But that's false Op, we recruit the ugly ones too.
>>19421475Well, didn't Webby complain there wasn't anything interesting for her to do?She could watch over Shelq to see if can trust the wasp or not.And look at her:>>19421456She's absolutely adorable.
>>19421456This is all your fault for drawing everything so cutely...
>>19421500The cuteness will be the death of us all! It's cursed!
>>19421556>>19421500Sorry, can't help it. I love cute things.Anyways, what shall you do now?
>>19421556>Spider Quest: Grimdark Edition incoming
>>19421567I must admit, this is a massive turn around from her first appearance.
>>19421581>Bibi, The female Jumping Spider version of Guts.I would honestly pay money to see this.
>>19421567Oh hey! Spider quest! Man, I was wondering where you went OP!
>>19421567Ask Shelq about herself. If she's going to live with us, we might as well get to know her.
>>19421567Check with Kahless and whoever he brought with him. Then ask the Bees if there is anything else we can do.Then celebrate glorious victory.
>>19421582True.That is because I can't remember how I drew her the first time. And I didn't really think that you would save her.It was just a generic wasp I left there so you could interact with one before meeting them in full force.
I just got the thinking. We gotta give Shelq another bow so Kahless won't try to eat her too.
>>19420279I think we all would.
>>19421597We must begin construction of a massive Plexiglass / Scrap Metal sword.
>>19421606You ask Shelq about herself. She is at first surprised that anyone would care, and then she begins to tell her life story, which, to be honest, isn't that interesting. She is apparently just a simple scout that has been doing what simple scouts do for the majority of her life. Her life started to deviate from the normal lives of the scouts only when you saved her from dying. After that, Xia forced her to clean the larval chambers, and there she would have stayed for the rest of her life if not for the whole honey incident and Xia's need for experienced troops. And now you saved her again.>>19421613You go outside to check on Kahless who just arrived with Isaac."What did I miss? The reinforcements are here!" He is kind of disappointed at himself for arriving this slowly when he hears that the battle has already ended. You ask the bees if you can provide any more assistance.321 assures you that they'll be fine for now. Once the queen gets clearheaded again, everything will be fine. You do a little celebratory dance in the honor of your victory!
>>19421764Introduce Shelq to Kahless and Isaac.Give Isaac a hug.Tell Kahless not to worry about it.
>>19421643Your current weapon proficiency is with spears however.See here:>>19419854- any attack with spear type weapons gains 2+ to their rolls.
>>19421764Well I suppose its back to the hideout for now.Introduce our new member to the gang.
You think Shelq would try to get into good standing with the Wasps again by ratting us out?Though her future there wouldn't look too bright even if.
>>19421794"Who is this wasp? I guess I can't eat her either...You better give her a bow like with Bubbles, so that I can differentiate her between other wasps.""Are you implying that we all look the same!?! Because if you are, you are completely wrong!!""I am not going to comment on this any further. Are you sure about associating with this wasp Bibi?"You tell Kahless that her name is Shelq, while you also hug Isaac, who has gotten pretty big btw.>>19421803Together, you all start heading back to your nest.
>Home. We have to start a mega party and dance, because victory!
>>19421895>Are you sure about associating with this wasp Bibi? Not entirely, no. But she deserves at least a chance.
>>19421895Damn, Isaac is getting big.
>>19421895Okay we definitely need to figure out a way to mount a weapons platform on Isaac, so that we may mount a Ballistae on him, and fire both large darts / mini-arrows and nets to counter land and air units respectively.
>>19421962>need to figure out a way to mount a weapons platform on Isaac, so that we may mount a RAILGUN on himFtfy.
You return to your nest with Isaac, Kahless and Shelq.Ranou is still working on the scarecrow project, Dorpou is apparently keeping Webby entertained by playing with her, Andor and Bubbles are discussing something at the water pool.
"Hi K - present for you!"well that's what we should have done.
>>19422048Get bubbles to make another bow for shelq, get that out of the way. We can introduce shelq as we talk to each group.
>Andor and Bubbles are discussing something at the water pool.POOL PARTY!
>>19422060D:
So...how long until we become the Nerubian Empire?
>>19422136We are on modern day Earth. No empires to be build.
Dunno what we're building at this point. Clubhouse of doom?Let's see what Bubbles makes of this wasp...
>>19422069Shelq should get something different, or otherwise Bubbles will probably get upset again.Maybe a scarf, or something like that.
You introduce Shelq to Bubbles, and ask if she could make another bow for her."..A wasp?! Why are you bringing a wasp here?! Are you like, totally mad? Wasps are mean and evil! And I should, like, help her make a bow? I don't even know how your old crazy spider friend made this one!"Andor too, seems rather cautious."Another wasp Bibbi? Can we trust her? She isn't as stupid and harmless as the one already living here, she is a proper hiver. Hiver bugs are dangerous."Shelq is somewhat taken back by the harsh welcome, but she tries to assure the others of her good intentions."I will try to help you people out to the best of my abilities, there is nothing back in the hive that I could return to.""She, is like totally lying!" "We will see how much truth your words hold, hiver."Both Bubbles and Andor are cautious about the wasp. Wat do.
>>19422288>Both Bubbles and Andor are cautious about the wasp. Wat do.Ask Shelq to forgive them for the rude welcome, but the wasps have been quite a nuisance to most insects around here. They'll surely warm up to her in time. Then introduce her to Webby and Dorpou, they should be a bit friendlier.
Fashion House of Doom.---Guess we got something good going here - everyone wants to protect it. That's something at least. We can keep her near by us for now."That's all well and good but what's going on here? I don't want another argument. You're arguing again aren't you?"
well other than checking our spinnerets i suppose we can try to calm them down a bit
If she doesn't work out we can always give her over to Webby et. al. as a play toys. Give Bubbles a break. You know .. now that I think about it .. let's have Webby guard her. Not to mess her up I - just keep her in line.Meanwhile we need to butt in and distract.
You apologize Shelq the rudeness of Bubbles and Andor. You say that is only natural for them to be suspicious of wasps. You go and ask what the two had been discussing before you showed up."I was like, just trying to tell Andor that he a bow like I have would make him look very cute too!""I will not but that kind of thing on my head! I have a legacy I need to be respectful of!""Well tell that Lekasy friend of yours that your personal beauty is more important than his opinions.""You are dumber than an aphid feasting on soiled berries.""What did you say!?"They continue to argue...Wat do?
>>19422495Keep listening, this could be fun.
>>19422495Let them argue. As long as they don't start getting physical or too mean, it's probably a good way to relieve stress. We should probably take off our armour.
>>19422514>>19422533You sit back and watch as the two argue.Well, really, there isn't much arguments going on. Mostly insults and perceived insults resulting from Bubbles misinterpretation of what Andor says.Bubbles is still trying to convince Andor that a bow would suit him, and Andor still continues to resist all Bubble's attempts to put her bow on him."Are they always like this?" Shelq asks. You also take of your armor, as it was starting to get heavy.
>>19422656Most of the time, yes.I think we need to find something useful/productive to do for Bubbles.
>>19422656Yes, yes they are.Tell them to keep it civil and go to the next group.
Leave them to argue, since we have a hive wasp traitor shouldn't set up some sort of trap to defend our home just in case they come looking for her...
I still say we toss her at Webby and move on.Wait. When did we install a hot tub? And where's Dorpou?
You leave the two to argue and move away from the water hole. You drop your armor inside the storage, and realize that you need to make a new spear. (You lost your earlier one by throwing it at a wasp fleeing from you.)It seems that Dorpou is still watching over Webby, who has taken a sudden interest in your slingshots.
>>19422860Begin trying to make a bow.Eventually we'll be able to make Ballistas, and then we can PROPERLY set up our defences.
>>19422860You said you were a scout shelq. Are there any areas that the wasps seem particularly interested in?
>>19422707Shelq mentioned they might come after us anyway, because we were a "softer" target
Let's get everyone together and tell them what happened, who the new wasp is and what we might be facing.
>>19422901>>19422914As you watch Webby struggling to handle the slings, you realize how unwieldy they are. You start working on a smaller, more manageable version, while also asking Shelq about areas of interest for the wasps."Well, there are the flower and the berry bushes. There is lots of prey in these areas. They also patrol the grass fields for ant activity. They have avoided this tree hole, as the great flying monster used to live here. It is kinda brilliant hiding place really. No wonder you haven't been discovered yet."You finish up the small sling thingy. Now you need to figure out ammunition for it. The pebbles are too big for it.
Oh, and a heads up.I might need to stop soon. It is getting late and I am getting very tired.I am sorry that this wasn't as stellar or action packed session as some of the earlier ones were.I will do a couple of updates before bedtime.Another thing. I am not sure how many sessions of this quest I can run anymore. The pessimistic estimate is 2-4. One month from now, I will be going to the army, and I am not sure how much free time I have for stuff like this. This is a problem, because I am not sure at all if I can provide a satisfactory conclusion to the quest in 2-4 sessions.
I'm still reading the archives, but you are fucking epic, OP!
>>19423106>Another thing. I am not sure how many sessions of this quest I can run anymore. The pessimistic estimate is 2-4.Oh fuck.>This is a problem, because I am not sure at all if I can provide a satisfactory conclusion to the quest in 2-4 sessions.Don't rush things. I'd be more than willing to wait a few months between updates.Simply set up a twitter account and give us a heads up once you'll run another installment.
>>19423116Thanks!
>>19423135I hadn't thought of that option.Really, it might actually be the proper solution. Honestly, I have no idea of how to weave the story together in about 3 sessions and not make it railroaded and rushed shit.Thanks. Your suggestion might actually solve my problem. I just hope other people have as much patience as you do.
>>19423002Do this
>>19423165I would also be more than willing to wait. This has been a fun quest, the pictures really make it.
>>19423165This, definately this. Take your time and enjoy it.
You assemble the council to introduce the denizens of the tree hole to the newest member of your gang of random misfits. "She must be kept in check Bibi. I mean no offense, but I simply can't blindly trust a hiver like you. You must first prove your loyalty to us." States Andor."I agree with Andor. We can't let her run around freely. She could try to return to her hive. She also needs some sort of indicator to show that she is one of ours, so I don't accidentally try to attack her." Says Kahless."...she can't have a bow..." Bubbles mutters."I trust you know what you are doing Bibi." Is all what Dorpou says."Bringing the wasp here might have been risky, but the damage is already done. We can only hope her words of her loyalty to us hold true." Says Ranou. You also inform them about the threat of a wasp attack."Our defenses are still too weak! You need to train your spawn to fight!" Says Andor."I will assist you, the wasps can't hope to best me in the air." Says Kahless."Our current web traps will be able to hold off some of the wasps. And if you are correct on your knowledge on the wasp's current military might, we might not even need to make more." Says Ranou."I really hope you know what you are doing." Says Dorpou."...if she had a bow, she would like totally be copying me..." Mutters Bubbles. So, plans! Throw them!
>>19423165i can wait as well, this is a quest that's worth waiting on for a pretty long time
>>19423354Lol at that picture. Was it from the thread in which /tg/ explored the nested universe thing? So I guess that I'll try to do what I can with the time I have before army, and then I'll inform you through twitter or something when I get the time to run another session.Does that sound like a good plan?
>>19423350Get Webby to act as Shelq's supervisor. That would get our little sister out of everybody else's hair and might actually do some good for the two of them.>So, plans! The wasps have been weakened by losing their most experienced warriors. If possible, we should try to find a solution that avoids further bloodshed.
>>19423354Oh man, I'd forgotten how much fun Nested was.
How deep does the hole go? Does anything lie beyond the poison mushroom and nectar?Another would be examining the contents of the nest (and thus learning the properties of the battery in the nest, but that could very dangerous for Bibi's friends. Some more than others).
>>19423403It is almost 2 am here, so I am going to make one update and then hit the bed.The next session will start in game time few days after these events, so that the plans you make here have been put into effect by then.In real life time, the next session will of course, be next saturday.
>>19423350Bubbles, would an armband be different enough for your liking?>>19423381Yup, sounds good.
>>19423381>>19423411i forgot where i got the picture from until you guys pointed it out>>19423403i'm voting for this
>>19423403You tell Webby that from now on, she will guide Shelq around the nest, and keep her company. You explain to Shelq that this is just a necessary precaution to calm down the other residents. "Yay! We are gonna have so much fun together!" Webby exclaims and grabs Shelq's arm and starts dragging her away.Together, with the council, you begin to device plans on how to avoid all out war with the wasps.>Post yer plans mateys! After you have submitted your plans, I shall head to bed. Sorry if this session was boring. I kinda started it too late.
>>19423540>Post yer plans mateys! -Try to get a leg, or several, in the bees' door. They're powerful allies and will, hopefully, make good friends.-Consult Shelq on things that might convince the wasps to stop their raids on the bees.If the wasps want the bees honey that much, maybe they'd be willing to trade for it?-Spend more time with our friends/family. Hugs for everybody.-Ask Andor if there are other ladybugs around.-Did our plan to develop a writing system ever go anywhere?-Try to find a useful job for Bubbles. What are her strengths?-Build shelters/domiciles for our non-spider allies.
>>19423540> Sorry if this session was boring. No way, even if it was, well-Dude... that picture :>>19421567Is so freaking adorable.
>>19423601Those sound like good plans to me. They will be in full effect at the start of the next session.>>19423610Glad to hear it! And with this picture, I will depart for now. See you lovely gentlemen later, as I must now go to sleep.Night gents!
