>Location: Cerulean Province

You stride towards the mansion, flanked on either side by Raziel and Ezekiel, with Nahzit and Grayson standing behind you.

"Excuse me, lady." A guard in front of the mansion's gate says. "Do you have an invitation?"
"No worries," Kristoph said, slinging his hand onto the guard's shoulder. He wasn't wearing his armor, but instead a simple dress tunic- nothing special, but he still wore the long sword on his back. "This is the Queen Ishelda and her retinue. They're my guests."
"Queen?" The guard asks, eying Kristoph as if the knight was playing a prank on him.
"Dead serious, Raul." Kristoph responds.
The guard- Raul, apparently, stepped aside and allowed you inside. . Even Grayson.
"It's odd- nobody seems to be alarmed by the bear." Kristoph said. "I have a feeling it's the hat."

The ballroom was actually quite opulent- as opulent as the one in Arcturus, which was surprising, as this province didn't seem as wealthy as your own world. Noble women in dresses all look at one another, almost in a predatory manner, estimating and weighing threats, it seems like. They do the same you, but when they see how young you are, they instantly dismiss you. Instead, their ire is drawn to Raziel, but she doesn't seem to notice. You note that a few of them glance at Kristoph, and apparently, recognize him.
>>
>>19531169
>It's odd- nobody seems to be alarmed by the bear." Kristoph said. "I have a feeling it's the hat."
I'm surprised he isn't more alarmed by the bear; he's immune to the hat, right?
>>
>>19531236
He's just playing along.
>>
>>19531236
>Yeah, he's immune to it. But in his words, 'if nobody else is making a big deal about the bear, he must be a big softie.'

Kristoph notices where you're looking, and recognizes the look of the noble women on the other side of the room.
"Yeesh." He said, and frowned. "Sometimes I wish my 'adoring fans' adored me because of who I am, not because I'm highborn."

"Kristoph." You hear a woman's voice, cold as ice.
"Selene." Kristoph responds, a wide grin plastered on his face.
"I believe that's an incorrect mode of address." The woman said. She was around thirty years old, from your estimation, and she had her hair bound intricately. "You should call me High Lady Cerulean, at least when I am hosting a ball."
"I'll make sure to remember that, Selene." He says, his grin growing even wider.
She huffs, then turns to Raziel. "I would like to welcome you." She said, completely disregarding you. It must be the dress she's wearing. "I am the host of this ball, and I am the High Lady Cerulean."
>>
>>19531169
"It actually is the hat, yes. I enchanted it, since the hat alone wasn't doing the job."
>>
>>19531267
Curtsy, "It is an honor to meet you, High Lady Cerulean."
>>
>>19531267
honor to meet you, High Lady Cerulean, I am queen Ishelda of the now dead lands of Arcturus.
>>
>>19531307
No need to mention we're all that's left right off.
>>
>>19531327
yeah, your probably right
>>
"An honor to meet you, High Lady Cerulean." You respond, and she looks down at you. "I am Queen Ishelda, of the lands of Arcturus."
"A pleasure." She said, smiling keenly at you. It doesn't reach her eyes, and you can see her evaluating you. "Please, make merry." She says, after a long moment. "I would stay longer, but I have many more guests to meet. My job is never done."

She trots off in a different direction, and starts talking to a male noble, who had been sullenly standing there in the corner of the room. Only then do you recognize him; High Lord Sirius.
>>
>>19531379
What a pleasant surprise, maybe we should talk to him after she is done.
>>
>>19531379
Do we see any other people of importance?
Is there food?
Are we hungry?
>>
>>19531379
Any one Kristoph would like to introduce us to?
>>
You make your way over to one of the sides of the room, where a banquet sat, and Kristoph took a hunk of sweet bread, and started chowing down.
"Is there anyone you would like to introduce us to?" You ask Kristoph, but he shakes his head.
"I don't see anyone other than fakes. . Wait, I might."

He darted off, weaving between two dancers, and dragged back a young man, only a few years older than you.
"This is. . Leon." Kristoph said. "He's a squire, and he's awesome."
Leon looked up to Kristoph. "What do you mean? How am I awesome?"
"He's an *actual squire*." Kristoph said. "The only one in the city that isn't highborn. He earned it."
>>
>>19531509
"It is a plesure to meet you Leon, I am queen Ishelda of the faraway realm of Arcturus."
"Is he your squire Kristoph?"
>>
>>19531509
"High praise indeed, then, from what Kristoph's told me." No sarcasm, being completely honest.

"How does one earn the role of squire, any way?"
>>
>>19531564
Shouldn't we know that already? You know since we are a queen? It probably involves a series of test regarding different subjects, physical and mental alike.
>>
>You're from a different world- some things may be the same, but there's no way to be sure what's the same and what's different unless you ask.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Leon. I am Queen Ishelda, of the faraway realm of Arcturus." You say, and Leon bows.
He stays silent, probably nervous.
"Is he your squire, Kristoph?"
"Hah, no way." Kristoph responded. "He's the squire of Darius. An old, bitter fart. I was his squire once upon a time, too. No one better."
"How does one earn the role of squire, any way?"
"Well. ." Leon says. "Most just. . ask for it, and if a knight deigns to take a squire. . that's it."
"In Darius' case, it means the kid had to have done something with balls. What I heard was, Leon was just walking around on the imperial road, when he ran into a bunch of bandits pestering Darius. Leon used some kind of spell, and drew a sword out of thin air. He hardly knew how to use it, but he scared the bandits off." Kristoph said, taking a peculiar glee at Leon's embarrassment.

You notice one of the non-noble women ask Nahzit for a dance, obviously curious. Nahzit bows, and they go off to dance.
>>
>>19531585
It's showing an interest, but there's no guarantee that we know the inner workings of the knightly orders. It's wholly possible that a squire is just "selected" from boy applying.
>>
Might be wise to warn High Lord Sirius that Uriel might be alive again, even if it's in the form of Eidolon's griffon.
>>
>>19531617
I really don't think its the same Uriel. And if it is he's hardly going to be making political waves as a beast of burden.
>>
>>19531617
Yes we will do that when he is alone or better ask him for a private meeting after the ball.
>>19531602
"So he.....conjured a sword. That must be impressive and handy for a knight-to-be. Would you excuse my curiocity Leon if I inquired about your magical ability?
>>
>>19531643
Same or not, it won't do us any harm to inform him of the latest news.
>>
"So he... conjured a sword. That must be impressive and handy for a knight-to-be." You say. "Would you excuse my curiosity, Leon, if I inquired about your magical ability?"
"Look, look." Kristoph said, and took Leon's wrist. He showed you Leon's palm, and you saw. . strange, arcane symbols tattooed into his skin. It reminded you, eerily, of the runes in elven spellcrystals.
"My father is the Magister." Leon said. "So I know a bit of magic."
>>
>>19531728
So he will essentially be a spellsword. Damn it would be good if we could get him on our crew too. Also should we meet the magister?
>>
"May we meet the magister?"
"He's. . out of town." Leon says. "I was sent here in his stead. The High Lady has me doing enchantments- keeping ballroom lit, things like that."
"Poor kid." Kristoph says. "He has to listen to her ice queen thing *all night*."
>>
>>19531780
Well, I want to talk to this Leon kid but I don't know about what. Maybe spew pretty sparks out of the palms of our hands and make a "It's magic, I ain't gotta explain shit." face?
>>
>>19531780
Could we ask for permission to touch his hand? We could read read the magic runes and what magic he has with our signature spell?
>>
>>19531780
Slow thread it seems, anyway.
>>19531796
We better not show our magick in public or at all if possible. Only in an emergency.
>>
>>19531780
"That sound boring indeed, alas it is a neccessary duty'."
>>
>>19531814
>We better not show our magick in public or at all if possible. Only in an emergency.
This.
Let's try and keep our magicks hidden for now, no need to upset the power-balance of the Human Lands any more than we already have by having a queen from a realm who's very powerful in magic and can do it without the normal shit required.
What I mean is, let's dance. With Grayson.
>>
>>19531865
Let's save Grayson for later, let's have a dance with Leon first.
>>
>>19531865
Dance is in order indeed, have kristoph and raziel join us.
>>
>>19531883
We are a queen, we can't dance with a squire as a first dance.
>>
>>19531897
Sure we can.
>>
"That sounds boring indeed." You say. "Alas, it is a necessary duty."

After a bit of small talk, you decide. . you need to dance.

"Shall we?" You ask, and hold out your hand. Leon takes it.

He's not very good- apparently just having learned recently, but you're able to lead.

Soon enough, the song was over, and a new one started. .So you went to dance with someone else.
With Grayson.
It's a bit awkward, with Grayson not being bipedal, and being much larger than you, but the two of you figure it out. He heaves up onto his back legs, and waltzes with you.
Sadly, nobody seems to notice, or make any issue of it..

Until Grayson harrumphs, and whips his head to the side in such a manner that hat flies off.

The music stops, as everyone looks at you and the dire bear. . but you continue.

Kristoph laughs at everyone's reaction, and claps. .Then grabs Raziel's wrist and pulls her into a dance of their own.
>>
>>19531865
or the squire boy. he's the only person near our age that we've met. maybe dance with him afer grayson?
>>
>>19531939
"You did that on purpose didn't you?"
>>
>>19531939
Aww~! Grayson wanted to be noticed.
>>
>>19531939
I believe a big hug is in order.
>>
>>19531939
HUH? SCANDALOUS!

>continue
>>
>>19531957
He is dancing with a queen. He only deserves it.
>>
>>19531964
>>19531957
This
>>
"You did that on purpose, didn't you?" You ask the bear.

He gives you what you can only describe as an 'ursine, shit-eating grin'.

"Excuse me." The High Lady says, her voice cold and sharp.

Kristoph shows up. "Everyone wants to dance with the bear. . even the High Lady!" He called, and the some of the younger nobles started to chuckle. Leon bit his lip, trying to keep a straight face.
>>
>>19532013
"What seems to be the problem?"
>>
>>19532013
How may I be of service. High Lady? Would you like a dance with Ser Greyson? He is a most talented and gentlemanly dancer.
>>
>>19532013
Can we ask someone to retrieve greysons hat for us? We don't want it lost or stepped on.
>>
>>19532013
We should make sure to get hold of Grayson's hat.

>>19532038
That covers anything else I'd have added.
>>
"How may I be of service, High Lady? Would you like a dance with Ser Grayson? He is a most talented and gentlemanly dancer." You say.
"Ser?" She asks, her voice taking on a peculiar . . tone. One that changed pretty much everyone's faces into ones that plainly said 'oh shit'. "Please elaborate, *Queen* Ishelda." She said.
>>
>>19532065
Did she moke us? Ignore that, she is just jealous of us.

"He is my closest friend, the first one to help me when I came in this land. I named him Ser Greyson for he truly earned this title, at least from where I come. Maybe it is not a common site in your realm?
>>
>>19532115
Grayson should bow to the High Lady! He is only a knight and she is a ruler.
>>
>>19532115
sight*
sorry i derped there
>>19532129
Indeed
>>
I think you also meant mock? As in, to ridicule?
>>
>>19532065
"His title is perhaps just a courtesy, but he is certainly of the most noble of bear lineage. And yes, since my father died, I would be queen of Arcturus, regardless that those lands are quite far from these."
>>
remember that he is a dire bear, thus a Noble bear. So naming him ser is not out of place too much.
Dire animals are considered of noble bloodline
>>
>>19532152
yes, what is wrong with me today
>>
"Of course, didn't you know that dire creatures such as Grayson are of noble lineage for their kind? I thought it only fitting, especially given that he's personally saved my life several times."
>>
rolled 80 = 80

>>19532065
Start hovering above ground to get on the same height as the high lady.
"*Ser* Grayson is a dire bear, the closest bears get to nobles. He has saved my life times over and rightfully earned his title."
>>
We might want to levitate Grayson's hat back on his head.
>>
>>19532186
No magic
>>
Do we have to do something to prove we are royalty? something like The Princess and the Pea ?
>>
>>19532186
I don't think that's a good idea.
>>
"His title is perhaps just a courtesy, but he is certainly of the most noble of bear lineage." You say.
"Frankly, *young lady*." She said, before you can continue. "I do not take kindly to beasts in my ballroom."
She whirls around to Kristoph.
"And, dear brother, I do not especially take kindly to you arranging for a fake 'queen' to arrive with beasts, and encouraging spectacles." She said.

"Show them out." She says to the guards, and they approach.
>>
>>19532186
To become obviously aggravated or agitated in the face of accusation will only serve to make the bitch appear more self-righteous. Basically, she's trolling us.

The best way to counter-troll is to remain unflappable until she becomes infuriated.
>>
>>19532210
"How rude!"

Let's use some magic to make the guards think that the Cerulean bitch is us and we're her.

Hilarious.
>>
rolled 30 = 30

>>19532210
Silence her with magic. "I am no fake queen, and I would encourage you to be a bit more grateful I deigned to grace you with my presence."

Bitch don't play around. Probably over doing it a bit, but damn if I don't like her.
>>
>>19532230
No magic
>>19532210
You are joking with me High Lady, Ser Greyson has been here the whole time, surely you didn't get offended now?
>>
rolled 96 = 96

>>19532210
Teleport her crown onto Grayson's head as if it were there all along.
>>
>>19532230
Oh god, this. Getting thrown out of her own party like that is just so much poetic justice.
>>
>>19532235
No magic, unless neccessary. We are a queen, not a spoiled high born that gets bitchy at everything. Don't fall at her level.
>>
>>19532254
I'll stand by this.
>>
>>19532255
>>19532254
>>19532235
What would our father think of us then?
>>
>>19532210
"I wonder where Sirius is. Last time I saw him I saved his life."
>>
>>19532235
Whoa whoa, don't just use magic for such purposes, it's below us.
Show offense and replace the hat on Grayson's head.
Get High Lord Sirius to back us up.
>>
>>19532271
This, along with "I wonder how he is."
>>
>>19532269
I imagine he'd be stifling laughter in the great beyond.
>>
"I wonder where the High Lord Sirius is." You say, with a pleasant smile. "I wonder how he is."
"I'm right here, Lady." The High Lord says. "It's been some time since you saved my life, has it not?"
Cerulean blanched, and she seemed lost for words.
"Look at her *face*!" Kristoph whispered to Leon, snickering to himself.
>>
>>19532254
>>19532235
What the hell makes you two think these are good ideas? Nobles and royalty are incredibly touchy.
>>
>>19532301
"Yes it has. Have you been well?"
>>
>>19532301
"I'm curious, High Lord, Ser Grayson spent some time in your court, what is your opinion on him?"
>>
>>19532309
Add: "I hope not to make a habit out of it my Lord."
>>
>>19532303
Well, it WOULD be quite funny. I don't agree with doing it, though.

>>19532301
"It has. I've had quite a few adventures since then, as well. I'd quite like to tell you about them when you've time, though you've probably heard about them already."
>>
>>19532303
12 year old logic. It's summertime, remember?
>>
rolled 40 = 40

Really think we should levitate Grayson's hat back onto his head.
>>
>>19532330
No magic, yet.
>>
>>19532334
We should at least locate it, make sure it's still okay.
>>
Quietly ask Leon if he could get the hat back.
>>
"I'm curious, High Lord. Ser Grayson spent some time in your court. What is your opinion of him?"
"Oh, he is as noble as any other knight I've seen." The high lord said, clasping his hand over his heart. "And, if that dance I just witnessed was not mine eyes playing tricks on me, then he is surely a gentlebear."

Grayson nods, and then with a single paw, picks up his hat, and puts it back on his head. Then he pulls himself up on his hind legs, and puts his own paw over his heart.

"I feel more chivalrous simply by standing near him." The high lord added, with a polite smile.
"I see." The high lady says, then turns around. "I'm sorry, but something has come up." She said, trying to recover what's left of her pride. "I must leave the ball this night."

She all but storms out.
>>
10/10 A++ ending to that situation.
>>
while this was fun and games I think it is time for more serious talk with the lord
namely, the kalak and what we learned on the hobgoblin mainland
>>
>>19532362
SUCK IT BIATCH
>>
>>19532362
Heh.

>>19532381
Lighten up, it's a party. We can do that afterwards.
>>
>>19532362
"Thank you, High Lord Sirius." with a curtsy.
>>
>>19532362
Resist the urge to laugh at this and offer our hand to High Lord Sirius for a dance.
>>
>>19532381
afterwards and in private, with a hide from scrying spell around us
>>
>>19532362
most excellent.
>>
>>19532416
This, maybe a dance and tell him there's something that needs talking in личный.
>>
>>19532422
YES! Add hide from scrying to the jormungandr's list of enchantments. talk there
>>
>>19532485
We should already have something similar on Jormungandr. Anti magic-detection spell i think it was. But we should definitively improve it.
>>
Kristoph raises both hands, one pointing at you, and the other at the high lord.
"You. You two. You two are my favorite people." He says, and cackles.
"I'm glad to be of service." The high lord responds, keeping up his calm, serene smile- but from the twinkle of his eyes, you can tell that he might as well be laughing along with Kristoph.

"Would you like a dance, High Lord?" You ask, and offer your hand. He takes it.

While dancing, you take the moment to speak.
"High Lord Sirius, there are things that we may need to. . talk about in private."
". . Very well, then. I assume you have a location in mind?"
"That assumption would be good. The Jormungandr."
"I see. That's the . .airship that Grubwort spoke about, no doubt. Very well- after the ball." He said, and you finished the dance. You switched with Raziel; the Kalak dancing with the high lord, and yourself dancing with Kristoph.
"I've never seen her make that face before." He says, gleefully, and spins you around. He's . .a much better dancer than you thought he'd be, mostly because he's spectacularly casual about it.
>>
I can't wait to hear later on about how cerulean has been trying and failing to train bears. maybe even a fall from grace after a nasty mauling.
>>
I feel we shouldn't have antagonized her like we did. Sure she was a bitch and all but still.

>>19532546
"I hope she doesn't hold a grudge."
"What was her problem anyway?"
>>
>>19532570
We were more spectacular than her. I bet she isn't used to that.
>>
>>19532570
Dis, mah friends
>>
>>19532546
"Should I be concerned about any reprisals do you think?"
>>
>>19532546
I do hope she recovers from this ordeal, I did not set out to offend her. I simply refused to have my boon companion Grayson insulted in from of me. Why his dancing skills alone should have convinced anyone that he was a gentlebear. But it was not so this time.

We should probably have tea with Selene after this, maybe tomorrow, to patch things up.
>>
"I hope she doesn't hold a grudge." You respond. "What was her problem, anyway?"
"Oh, she's proud, vain, etcetera, etcetera." Kristoph responded. "So I'd kind of been trying to make spectacles at her balls for a few years. She's been paranoid about all of my guests since one of them turned out to be an illusion that she danced with- she ended up dancing with empty air. . from everyone else's perspective. This one was the first night that she's actually walked out, though."
>>
>>19532619
"Well, that's not very nice." A slight smile, "Though a bit funny."
>>
>>19532593
I kinda guessed that, our clothes were much more fancy on the 'fancyness' meter

>>19532619
"Oh" chuckle "I see.
Then I can't fault her for her behavior then.... much."
>>
>>19532616
She insulted Greyson AND called us a fake queen. She deserved it
>>
>>19532642
She jumped to a hasty conclusion because Kristoph made it his life goal to screw with her parties. It was rude, but it is still forgivable.

>>19532619
I do hope she allows me to join her for tea, to mend whatever distance there is between us.
>>
"Oh, I see." You say, and titter. "Then I can't fault her for her behavior. . much."
"Well, she's also a colossal bitch, but..." He shrugs, and sends you twirling again, your dress flaring outward.
>>
>>19532682
He offered to swear fealty to us or something last thread, right? Maybe we should ask if he still wants to after what he's seen?
>>
>>19532682
Do this in a slightly and friendly chiding tone of voice, not actually angry or anything like that.

Now Kristoph, it is simply unacceptable to insult the host at their own party, and your sister at that, at the very least use flowery language. While your assessment may be correct, there is a time and place.
>>
>>19532642
No she didn't.
It is understandable that she wouldn't believe us. Try to look at things from other people's point of view for once. Some little girl comes with a circus show to your ball and calls herself a queen of a place you have never heard before and you're going just to roll with it?
I'd call you an idiot if you didn't have any doubts about that.

>>19532704
We'll ask just before we're leaving this city. Not now.
>>
Question: Can we use our fate point to instantly destroy Impulse next time we see her? Like, rip her out of existence, not simply some sort of disintegration.
>>
We should probably send a letter of apology to her, explaining we weren't aware of her brother's standing tradition at balls and that we came there with no intention of impugning her, and maybe offer a favor.
>>
>>19532750
Probably not, I'm betting Impulse has plot armor.
>>
>>19532750
Probably.
But why? She is a bitch but we don't really know if she's evil to warrant something like that.

Heck, we could probably do that right now, while dancing at the ball. Such is the extent of Ishelda's power, especially when it is amplified by a nat 100
>>
"Now, Kristoph, it is simply unacceptable to insult the host at their own party, and your sister at that. At the very least, use flowery language." You say.
"Oh, very well." He says. "She is as a beautiful lake in winter- in that it's astounding in the distance, but then you get closer, and it's bitter, cold, and if you try to walk in on it, the ice cracks, and you get pulled under and die trying to claw your way out from under the ice. Is that better, your highness?" He asked, quirking his lips.
>>
>>19532791
"Sounds about right."
>>
>>19532791
"your description needs work, but it will do for now"
>>
>>19532791
Much better Kristoph. Your command of language is magnificent, and is that not far more insulting while still retaining class.

Now Kristoph, is there anyone in particular I ought to dance with and meet at this party aside from those I have already met?
>>
>Exabyte @Futureexabyte
>Notice that everyone tries to avoid cussing around Ishelda. . except for Kristoph. Raziel too, but only when she's drunk.

Is it because MAGIC?
>>
>>19532841
Is it normal to ask whit whom to dance with?
Actually, aren't men supposed to ask women to dance and not vice verse?
>>
>>19532868
>It's because you're the LITTLE GIRL.

"Much better. Your command of language is magnificent. Now, Kristoph, is there anyone in particular I ought to dance with and meet at this party?"
"Hardly." He said. "I'm sure someone more interested in the politics of the province might have someone you can meet. . but these nobles are . . petty. There's nobody here I respect. Although I'm sure Leon could introduce you to everyone, if you really want him to."
>>
>>19532868
It's probably because she's the little girl.
>>
>>19532868
I think it's fairly instinctual not to swear around kids, amplified by just how darned ROYAL we are.

"Do you know if other High Lords are present?"
>>
>>19532890
>>19532896
>>19532907
So why does he do it?

>>19532890
"You seem to really, really dislike the nobility around here."

>>19532924
I'm sure we would have known already.
>>
>>19532868
I think it's because we're a little girl.

>>19532875
It's more for introductions.

>>19532890
I ought to meet at least some of them, I did just drive off the hostess, it's the least I could do.

Ask Leon about important people of influence. We don't need people Kristoph respects, we need people with power who we can influence. If there are any other High Lords and Ladies we ought to talk to them.
>>
>>19532890
"Well, I DO enjoy meeting people."
>>
>>19532935
Because he doesn't give a shit.
>>
>>19532966
Is that a good thing for a knight we might want to hire or bad?
>>
>>19532990
Good.
Definitely good.
>>
>>19532993
Why? Because personally I don't like that.
>>
"Do you know if any other High Lords are present?"
"Well, from what I've heard about High Lord Venus, he wouldn't come here even if his life depended on it. He hates this kind of stuff more than I do. Ursae isn't here right now, and Neptune is busy."
"You seem to really, really dislike the nobility around here."
"I do, I do." He says. "Because all of the nobles. . they're nobles because of their parents. Nothing more. They forgot the faces of their fathers, and forget exactly what their ancestors threw away for all of mankind. They're all the sort of people who would completely tear down that monument I showed you, just to put up another fountain."
>>
>>19532935
Because he doesn't care, he treats us much like he would treat another person, he treats us based on our behavior rather that our rank and being a little girl.

>>19532990
As long as we can keep him tactful at some events and earn his loyalty through our actions rather than relying on rank then it is a perfectly good thing.
>>
>>19532993
Someone who tells it like it is is good. We just won't rely on him for anything diplomatic.
>>
>>19532990
In other people, it could easily be bad, but in Kristoph, I'd say it's an excellent quality.

Part of his charm, if you will.
>>
>>19533002
But they are also noble because of their blood. In the blood lies dormant magical talents, and it is often a sign of nobility.
>>
>>19533002
"does Lord Sirus like these kind of things? He did come here after all."

"What do you think of other high lords?"
>>
>>19532990
It's a good thing, have you seen that man dance? One of the reasons he is so good is that he is casual and calm about it.

>>19533002
Despite perhaps being unpleasant it would still be in my favor to meet and get to know the nobles.

You did not seem to have any such feelings for High Lord Sirius or for this Darius fellow.
>>
>>19533054
>Despite perhaps being unpleasant it would still be in my favor to meet and get to know the nobles.
I don't want to waste our time on useless shit.
Meeting High Lords? Sure. But a bunch of low ranking, good for nothing nobles? No
>>
"You did not seem to have any such feelings for High Lord Sirius or for this Darius fellow."
"Sirius fights with his knights." Kristoph says. "I mean, *with* them. Alongside them. Any leader who does that can't be bad. And Darius is just a crotchity, rusty knight who's too old to swing a sword, let alone teach people how to use one. Despite that, he keeps going."
"Does High Lord Sirus like these kind of things?" You ask. "He did come here, after all."
"He's here to officiate some trading treaties between the provinces." Kristoph said. "I don't know him personally- in fact, the only high lord I know personally is my sister."
"What do you think of the other high lords?"
"Well. . I don't know anything for certain, but Lord and Lady Neptune are good- they keep everything moving, and keep the peace between the provinces. Not to mention, they make certain that the mutants don't make it out of the warped lands. Ursae. . I don't know much about him. . and from what I've heard, Venus takes things much, much too seriously. I mean, in war-time, taking things serious is good. But I don't think he can take a joke between battles."
>>
>>19533097
"Do you know if they like tea? And while on the subject, how do you find tea? And think carefully before you answer, it is going to change your future."
>>
>>19533097
"I see. Thank you for your information.
Perhaps I should meet Lord Darius one of these days."
Magic him up to be a proper knight again and such

>>19533124
I feel we're going overboard with this tea bullshit. Stop trying to shoehorn it into everything ffs.
>>
Seems Neptune is our guy. We will have to talk to him about the hobgoblins and how to deal with the demons.
>>
>>19533151
Darius isn't a lord.
>>
"I see." You say. "Thank you for the information. Perhaps I should meet Ser Darius one of

these days."
"He'd be offended if you called him Ser." Kristoph said. "He continues to insist he's only a soldier. .even after he was knighted. It's part of the reason I like him."
>>
>>19533213
"Sounds like a man with firm ideals.
How should I refer to him if I ever meet him then?"
>>
"Sounds like a man with firm ideals." You say. "How should I refer to him if I ever meet him, then?"
"If you ever meet him, don't worry about something like that." Kristoph responds. "He won't, that's for sure."
>>
>>19533284
"That's good to know."

I don't have anything of particular to ask or to do at the ball. Lets skip it doing the general appropriate things and then meet Sirius on board our ship.
>>
>>19533284
What about Neptune? How would we go about to arrange a meeting with him?
>>
>>19533340
I assume it involves flying into his province and saying hello.
>>
>>19533380
Yeah,
nothing hard or elaborate about this.

just the same thing we did with Sirus
>>
"That's good to know." You say.

The rest of the ball is rather uneventful- you spend it dancing with your various companions, and meeting several of the nobles- but as Kristoph implied, they were rather minor. For the most part, you enjoyed yourself.. It reminded you of home.

You walk back to the Jormungandr, and find High Lord Sirius already onboard, talking with Ell.

"Ah, Lady Ishelda." The high lord says, and the two of you quickly go below deck, where you can talk in private.
>>
>>19533427
I don't know why, but I want to bring him up to date on EVERYTHING. Including the Impulse and Ell situation.

Well bring him up to date.
Tell him that we learned more about the Uriel's people, that we spoke to their leader and they don't actually seem that bad of a bunch. We learned that their goal is to make a place in this world but we do not know by which means.
Tell him about the Hobgoblin mainland, that they also aren't bad people and are just doing what must be done, maintaining the wall, keeping the demons out and keeping the world safe.
Also tell him how we went inside the eye of the storm (so to say) and saw everything with our eyes.
Frankly, with combined effort there is a possibility to completely remove the demon presence in this world by closing the portal.

>>19533440
Not sure that's a good idea, we don't know him that well and we don't really gain anything by trusting him. We can tell him what we've found out about the coven and a bit about them and introduce the twins, but the elven shit isn't really any of his business.

You close your eyes, and press your magic up against the cabin's walls, sinking a significant amount of energy into it- much more than you expected, in truth, as you block it from being scried or even overheard.

"Now. . ." You start. "Soon after we left the orcish continent, we went to the elven prisms. . ."

You tell him. . not everything, but most of it. You tell him about the demons, about the hobgoblins. . and you tell him about the coven.
"They aren't bad people, not really." You say. "But in truth, they all seem to have their own ideas and aspirations. Uriel was going off of his own plans. In fact, Raziel and Ezekiel are two of my companions, and they're part of the Coven."
As you say Raziel's name, you suddenly recall your plan for the Wastelands.
. . Should you tell the high lord about it?
>>
>>19533625
>As you say Raziel's name, you suddenly recall your plan for the Wastelands.

Just general idea, that perhaps it will be possible to cure the Wastelands and completely deal with the mutant problem. Don't go into the specifics.

>>
>>19533661
What we've said now is in the past, however this is our future plans. If someone might try to find out about what we plan to do, he might "ask" him.
>>
>>19533691
If someone wants to fins out what we want to do and if that someone knows we had a talk with Sirus, they will "ask" regardless if we tell him anything or not.

I think we could say Raziel's proposed an interesting idea about the flowers.

Yes but they can't extract information from his mind that he doesn't have using magick.
>>
>>19533752
Eh... sure, I mean, it wont protect him anyway and it is not like our plans could have anyone opposing them unless you mean Impulse, who already knows of it.

In fact, by telling him, we could improve our relationship and gain a much more reliable ally
>>
"For example, Raziel has . .come up with an interesting idea that may cure the wastelands, and possibly deal with the mutant problem." You say.
He raises an eyebrow. "That's quite something." He said. "The only problem is that. . when so much new land opens up, I believe there may be conflict over it. Does the plan cover that?"
>>
I say tell him, because why the fuck not?
>>
Fuck it, I say tell him. He's a decent bloke.
>>
>>19533808
"Well... We don't even know if it will work, yet. We'll have to get past that, first."
>>
>>19533808
I'm still working on the easy part of fixing a desolate wasteland, I haven't worked out the difficult portion.

Maybe I'll rule over it, by that time all the major factions should owe me favors so they'll leave well enough alone.
>>
>>19533839
Rule over what? A desolate wasteland? We rule people, not land
>>
>>19533839
>Maybe I'll rule over it,
Lets not say that part.
We could have enough clout with everyone (and we largely already do) to keep the wastelands alone.
>>
"Well. . .we don't even know if it will work, yet." You say. "We'll have to get past that, first."
"This is something you will certainly need to think about, Lady." The High Lord said. "But yes, I am glad you have told me about the hobgoblins. I will. . have to speak to the lord Venus about it."
>>
>>19533958
"If everything works out, I could also get Lizardmen on my side and since I saved Kyvann, I also have some clout with the Elves. The Orc King saw the situation with his own eyes, so I think he would be amiable if it ever comes to making joint effort to banish demons forever."
>>
>>19533958
Ask Sirus if there are any known magical artifacts in the human lands.
>>
hm how to defend the recovered wasteland I am thinking a combination of an undead and golem army reinforced by whatever loyal allies we acquire from the other races
>>
"If everything works out," You say. "I could get the lizardmen on my side. . and since I saved Kyvann, I also have some clout with the elves. The orcish king saw the situation with his own eyes, so I think he would be amiable if it ever comes to making joint effort to banish demons forever."
". . Really." He says, rather calmly. He closes his eyes, as if thinking. "What you're talking about, Lady Ishelda, is doing something that has not been done in all the world. It was major when man and fey worked together to defeat the lizardman empire. . But to bring together the entire world. .I can think of a dozen problems, but only one or two major ones."
>>
>>19534128
"Oh, I know it wont be easy and the chances are that the coalition wont hold long after the defeat of the demons but with a common cause, I think it is possible. Although, I understand that many wont be willing to act because they don't feel the demons breathing down their necks. I mean, "The hobgoblins have been keeping them at bay for many centuries, so why do we need to act anyway?" they might say. "
>>
>>19534183
exactly my thoughts
>>
"Oh, I know it won't be easy." You say. "and the chances are that the coalition won't hold long after the defeat of the demons, but with a common cause, I think it is possible."
"The coalition.. " He says. "I do like the sound of that. This is. . This is a lot to take in, but it's something I want to be a part of."
"My only worry is that many won't be willing to act, because they don't feel the demons breathing down their necks."
"If we collect enough allies," The High Lord says. "That won't be much of an issue. Everyone wants something; if they don't want to help out of basic decency, it shouldn't be hard to collect the gold or supplies they want."
>>
>>19534274
But we should not rush this. We are talking about distant possibilities with a lot of variables that could go wrong.

I, for one, would like to go about, cementing my relationships with people in high places and good morals. I would also like to explore this world some more.
>>
>>19534332
>But we should not rush this. We are talking about distant possibilities with a lot of variables that could go wrong.

Not to mention different solutions we could find.
>>
>>19534274
To be fair the entire reason we might want to stop this is because there are people being kidnapped. The wall could concievably last for longer than our life.
>>
"But we should not rush this." You say.
"Oh, of course." He says. "For one. . convincing High Lord Venus and the Lady Cerulean are the two most significant problems I can think of. Perhaps we could convince her brother to take her place. ." He said, hand on his chin.

Personally, I would love to kill her. She's only going to get stronger as she gathers loads of artifacts for whatever nefarious scheme she's hatching. She's highly dangerous and unpredictable. And she stole Bubbles.

I think it's out of character for Ishelda to kill her though. Have we even killed a sentient non-demon being yet? Impulse is going to have to make her really really angry for that to even appear as an option.
>>
>>19535445
Well she's been an ass, stole one of our best friends, and she's potentially the biggest threat ever. I'm not saying we rip her out of existence now, but lets keep it on the table based on this encounter. She even tries to attack us or do anything hostile, we react by wiping her. We should probably make that clear as well.
>>
>>19535511
We could just bring her to square one. Rip her out of her body and stuff her into a crystal then lock the crystal make her dormant and then throw the crystal in middle of an ocean.
