Sup fa/tg/uys. I don't know about you, but I always found maps to make games more fun, even outside combat. I would think that /tg/ would have lots of map threads because of all the online RPers and Maptool users, but I guess they're just not as popular. Sites like sup/tg/ can't do image thread archives because of bandwidth costs, and even devoted map sites like RPGShare get bogged down with crappy uploads and low standards. So I'm putting together a big ol torrent of maps for /tg/'s convience. I figure it's been 3 years, I really should give something back.I have almost 3GB of maps. Properties tells me there are over 1,200 files, but most are tiles for making custom maps, even custom starships! Personally, I don't know if this is impressive or not. I'm sure someone out there has far more, and probably knows how to use Dunjinni to make their own maps.Of this 3GB, almost 2 and 1/3 are fantasy maps. This leaves modern games somewhat lacking, and futuristic games completely lost unless they happen to be Star Wars. Would any of you gentlemen know of any map sites for these time periods? And if anyone knows about any other map pack downloads or torrents, link me and I'll assimilate that with mine. And why not have a map thread to boot? Anyone have any requests?
Those fucking meth heads, man.
what kinds of programs do you use to make these?
>>19681298I am not good enough to make any. I've only been searching the internet for years for them.I tried a pirated copy of Dunjinni. I think the program had potential but I lacked vision to use it properly. Most of the maps I have were made using it, and look very good. Small Apartment is a Dunjinni map I believe judging by the style.Others are out of d20 books, like this one from Critical Locations.
Where all modern players eventually want to end up... a penthouse suite.
Here's another Dunjinni modern map. They must have released a map pack with things like toilets and computers. Not too shabby.
>Sites like sup/tg/ can't do image thread archives because of bandwidth costsBut they can handle ten new quest thread entries every week.
And another modern Dunjinni. There is definitely a unique style to these kinds of maps. Much thicker walls. Perhaps it's also more obvious that a program was used to make them, instead of being hand-drawn.
>>19681416Hear hear!
>>19681416
>>19681416More like per day. And images must take up more memory than text. Besides, we still have /tg/booru, which I checked earlier and got quite a few maps from, like this one. Much better than the one I made in pain a few years ago from the .pdf.These walls are thin as hell.So do you guys have any requests, for the three anons I've attracted?
This wasn't a half bad place for a firefight, like the supermarket from the beginning of Fallout 3. Add in Maptool's line of sight and fog of war features, and you can make your players too paranoid to take a single step.
>>19681494>sidewalk right where the drive-through windows areThat's some stupid design right there. I don't know what to request. Any jungles, forests, or grassy outdoors?
I agree entirely with you OP. Funny enough we rarely use miniatures for combat but I'm a big fan of HarnWorld and the system neutral supplements they have, their city maps are usually meticulously detailed and have residents and shops that are fully listed in basic detail. My games are incredibly sandbox/simulationist, so my players do spend quite a bit of time cultivating other skills and even joining trade guilds or cutting lucrative deals in other ways. Usually I'll fold out city maps when I'm running a game and have it as a point of reference for my players. Sometimes they may even own property within the city walls so it helps them to visualize the when and where.
>>19681570Some anon in the thread last night was pointing out design flaws in the maps. Even professional cartographers hired by WotC make mistakes. And I have over half a GB of forests and stuff alone. Do you want heavy foliage, light, maybe some ruins in there, or a village or two?
>>19681614>forever_tashal.jpg
>>19681632I know it's silly.I think maps and statistics are FUN.
I would like to remind everyone that tgbooru (grognard.booru.org) for image hosting purposes.Though in this case a torrent would still be quite useful.
I think the purpose of images in the hobby has a lot to do with implied depth, it is in reality superficial and transient but it acts as a bulwark of a conceivable fantasy world. Detail is best spent in other places but you still need an interesting backdrop.
>>19681614I have one group playing a game with the Savage Worlds system. They barely fight, then again they don't accomplish much except stumble their way though adventures. Whatever map I choose typically influences them in some way, even if it's just to force me to figure out how much those mining picks on the ground would be worth if sold. Similarly, I enjoy it when my PCs look at the map and decide what to do in combat, like flipping up tables for cover, or throwing a mage with resist fire into a furnace, lock the opening, and "wait it out."
>>19681624How about everything?
>>19681693Yeah, tgbooru was useful, but it didn't differentiate between the tags for "map" and "battlemap." RPGShare has a similar problem, where you can be trying to find battlemaps and instead get background objects like pistols or tokens.>>19681709That is indeed true. Playing online makes me miss my papercraft furniture. I think that the players being able to see that stuff reminds them "Oh yeah, improvised weapons" and they'll break a wooden table over an orcs head.>>19681777TRIPS MUST BE APPEASED!Well, I don't think I'll be posting 1,000+ files tonight, but I can give you what you want.
>>19681737I rarely use maps for combat. If they end up in a tavern brawl, they'll flip tables, smash beer steins, rip off the antlers of the taxidermists buck and use it as improvised weaponry even if I don't explicitly state they're there. I like it when my players can infer that there IS stuff at their disposal even if I don't explicitly state they're there (within reason of course).
>>19681824Perhaps in my case, it's the maps give the players interesting ideas to use in a fight, and I'm so amused by it I can't say no.
>>19681824It's always good to have an idea of where you are. I often find that descriptions are not good enough for me, especially when it comes to distances between places. If I GM again, I'd like to have a map of certain locations if, for no other reason, than to help the players and I realize where they are. I am okay with not following the distances and scales exactly. When I'm told we're entering a grand palace with a ceiling that must be fifty feet high, lined with high arches, walking along an immense red carpet down a lavish hallway decorated with columns, exquisite pottery, and glowing white marble floors and walls, I still prefer to have a map to give me a better visual picture of where we are, and define how far away things are from each other.
ERROR: FIle too largeCURSES M00TLES!
>>19681887And that's cool too. My biggest issue with battle maps is how bland they seem to me. Mind you, we play systems that aren't combat heavy. That's what I love about this hobby, there are so many ways that you can play. And everyone has a unique interpretation. http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/jamakkon/victory/VDCon2005.htmlI like over world maps with exquisite details and battle maps with very little detail.
>>19681624>>19681886Ooh, I love these. More of these please? I'll say your story is cool and call you bro!
>>19681999You might like Maptool then. You can put down a bland map, then populate it with items that players can interact with and even display messages when clicked. I've wanted to incorporate it more into investigations (why is this dresser moved away from the wall ZOMG A CLUE!11!!) but it can kill connections because of data transfer, and some of my players apparently have shit internet connections.
>>19682075Drat, most of my woodlands surpass the upload limit. But they will be in the torrent.
>>19682075By the way, were you diggin' those maps because of their WotC artstyle, or just the content?
>>19682115I just never figured out how to use maptools
>>19682188Both, actually. Fantasy wargrounds are my thing, and looking at these maps reminds me of the Black Isle days.
>>19682203Personally, I never got much farther than just using it as a place I could host an image and move smaller images around on it. There are probably dozens of awesome features I don't know about in there.>>19682218Then I'll keep on posting.
The part 2, letting you look inside the cave.
http://youtu.be/wpcRJ6EDaGUcoolest dungeon crawl ever.
>>19682353Nice use of props. I'm more of a papercraft furniture guy myself when my group can meet in person, but those walls and candles were impressive. And damn, Spelljammer is awesome.
Could I perhaps get some modern apartments or houses out in the country?
>>19682408I think forest anon should be happy. I'll dump what left for modern homes. Those pics from the beginning are most of them, I might have a mansion or something left.
>>19682424Alright, thanks bro.
World of Darkness represent!Hope you don't mind your new crib is fully of dead bodies.
Oh, that's a cave. I thought it was a burnt tree log on the side of the cliff.
I can try to pass off a few fantasy homes as modern.People still use wood in houses? Right? Or is it all carbon nanotubes?
>>19682453Anymore of these? I like the suggestiveness of the details. Gets the ol' idears percolating in my head.
>>19682605Nah, wood was phased out in the '60s.
Another blank slate
>>19682634And the roof. A good candidate for adding stuff in Maptool.
Do you have anything for castles, specifically the parapets? My PCs are going to be having an epic showdown on the outer walkways of a castle, and I have no maps for it
>>19682648Let me dig them out. This is hardly the best one I have.
I need a map for heavy city fighting, mostly around the entrance into the city.Have anything like that?
A little bigger, a little closer.
>>19682680Perhaps this helps you both?
Shit, was this edit any good? The original is 14mb, no way I can post it, so this will have to do.
No more castle fortifications (without focusing on the entire castle) but I have some city heavy pics in case those pesky invaders get past the gate.
So, when can we expect a torrent?
I am sad that OP stopped posting.
>surelyopwilldeliver.jpg
I'm the anon you helped out earlier.Well, here is the maps i made.
>>19684257It was for a d20 spy game.
Can anyone point to a good guide for making these sort of maps? I mean, I can make a sort of decent map in roll 20 but it takes a few hours, and it's still kind of buggy so I prefer to upload a ready made map
>>19684720Not that this will help at all, but I use photoshop to make my maps. I took a class of it in high school so I know the very basics, and it's surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it.Pic related, a keep that I made for my last game: and you can't even see the first floor.
OP here. I swear I closed my eyes for a MINUTE. I got put on an earlier shift at work this week, but all of my games were still wrapping up around 11 or midnight, so I've been pulling less than 6 hours monday through friday.Enough of this blog shit.>>19684257This is some nice shit. If the other anon from the other night was here, he'd chastise you for having the bank vault right against the wall. Again, those walls have Hardness 20 and 400 HP, so it will take some force to bypass them. Plus, I have a small bank in town, I don't think it's possible their vault doesn't go against the wall.>>19682850>>19684193Before the 4th. I need to learn how to torrent, and uploading 3 GB probably won't be quick for me either, perhaps a day. I'll probably post the thread, leave my laptop on, go to work, and have one of my players bump it for me.And here's another blank slate for the anon who was enjoying them before. There are 2 more related pics, but both are +3mb so 4chan rejects them.Should I use Paint.NET to minimize these? I mean, I love high resolution, but if I can zoom in on a pic to the point a single square can nearly fill my screen and not be blurry, that might be TOO high...Plus the memory cost is banannas.
Come at me with requests
This could be useful for a town fight if you wanted to go inside buildings too.
I made a few maps a while ago. should really do more with more depth and stuff.
2.
Here is some entrance city fighting. My posting will probably slow down until I get some direction. I have to look how to upload a torrent. Maybe the file just sits there on my computer until people stop by to upload?
3.
>>19685807>>19685821Pretty. And here is a nice, small keep.
>>19685842Would make a nifty dorf fort skin
>>19681999what is this from or is there more like this?
I actually printed this map out. It took dozens of sheets of A4 paper and a few hours of cutting and gluing to get it together. Ended up being made into "tiles" 2x3 sheets in size. Great investment, though. Ran a gygaxian-esque dungeon with it, and when I needed a new floor, I just rotated it, and the PCs were just as lost as before.
>>19685941any pictures of this complete/the tiles?
>>19686059I could drag them out, put them on the floor, and take a picture if you want. Let me find my camera.
>>19686077That'd be awesome. I'm trying to get creative with my mapping endeavors and that sounds genious
>>19686059Argh, sorry broski. I made them roughly two years ago. I found one pretty damaged, and I assume the rest were either trashed or are also badly damaged. I could try to find the PDFs though. I used a program called Posterazor to slice them up into so many pages up and down. Then I printed the PDF, cut off the white edges (except on the sides that would be glued under an adjacent page), and glued it together.>>19686100Well shit, now I have to search harder.
>>19686117Any help would be appreciated. I was just curious to see the finished result. Guess I'll have to dive into it on my own.
>>19686127>look near game table>what's this shit?>It's all of the mapsPraise the emprah! Brb, photographing.
>>19686134Oh awesome haha. Things turned out better than expected
Need to leave something behind.
I need to start making future-city maps for a Wushu Shadowrun game I want to run. Frankly it will be a bit of work but should be fun nonetheless- got anything that might help me?
>>19686169Sadly, future is my one weakness, as most of it is Star Wars. Perhaps it could help you though. Most are too big though. Damn high resolution.
>>19686138The God Emperor curses me for the naughty xenos heresy I keep on my harddrive, and I couldn't find my camera. Had to use webcam. At least the low resolution hides how bad it is, same with the papercrafts I make.As for this mega map, it was roughly 20 tiles if I remember correctly. The firs 4 tiles of a row were 3x3 sheets, or 24x33 inches. The 5th tile was only 2x3, so 16x33 inches.
>>19686265That looks amazing! Thanks for the inspiration. Speaking of papercraft, do you know any free resources for fantasy papercraft? It'd be nice for some set dressing after building a badass dungeon.
>>19686347Worldworks, my friend. And you're in luck, most of their fantasy works are available for pirating. It's their modern and future work that's impossible to find.I'll post a few.
>>19686376You're my hero haha. Thank you for being such a valuable resource.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it wont let me upload .pdfs, which is odd because it's worked in the past. You can find them on /rs/, but the links were beginning to die. Perhaps I'll have a second torrent, or incorporate the two together.Or photograph some of mine with my webcam again.
>>19686397It feels good to contribute.
>>19686411Hmm you can't use an alternative site like dropbox? Worst case, I'll post an email you could send them to. I managed to find a couple on Demonoid but they seem to be dead.
>>19686458I've never even uploaded a torrent before, so I'm new to all of this. Looks like I need to download something for dropbox. But yeah, if you email me up, I can guarentee that I will get on this, even if not this weekend but during the week.I also have the .pdfs of Fat Dragon's papercraft traps. Somewhere...
Oh duh! I'm sure a few office maps will help a shadowrun GM.
>>19686519Oh wow I'd love that! I just saw some Fat Dragon links and they looked good. Anyways my email is in the field
>>19686597Ok, you're on the list. I'll be sure to hunt those files down and get them to you.Not sure what this is, but it's modern and looks cool. I think it's a tall ass building with three areas branching off fromthe top.
>>19681290Drug lab apartment, best apartment.
>>19686629Thanks a ton. True bro right here.
>>19686674No, thank you sir.
Looks like I'm running out of even ideas that could help a shadowrun GM. Anyone have a new request? I have a little more time before I have to go.
When will this torrent be ready?
Spess ship time.>>19686722Since I've never made a torrent before, I don't know. I spent last night satisfactorily sorting the maps, so that's done. I just want to get a few more maps of the modern and futuristic variety. It should be up at LEAST before July 4th. Probably sooner, since I can let it upload and seed while I'm at work.
>Try to pirate Campaign Cartographer 3>Access is deniedWut?
http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/4666283/Campaign_Cartographer_3Nevermind. Looks like a 20 minute download. Holy balls.Sadly, I doubt it has anything for future or modern maps, which is what I need to round out this torrent.
I'll have to go soon. It's been an honor posting with all of you. Hopefully this thread survives until the late evening when I can get back. If not, I'll just make a new thread on Sunday, since I still need those rare modern and futuristic maps.
>>19686754>FUEL TANKS LINING THE EXTERIOR >OH GOD
>>19686890You know, I'm beginning to think that not a lot of thought goes into these maps, with bank vaults against the outside walls, easy to access evidence lockers in police stations, and now shit like this.
Aideos /tg/. Keep it real.
