Welcome old friends, and new, to Primordial evolution: Pre tribal.

In this thread we will wrap up final evolutions, flesh out the final bits of the biomes and fluff, (flashlight bord have a fiber optic nervous system for example), discuss what can be expected from this continent, flesh out the tribal candidates and even plan our tribes.

One thing I'm going to nitpick concerning the Google Docs (great idea, who's ever that was) the Coral Hamun are gone, they're the Ma'uma now. Also, they inhabit EVERY region. I wanted to give the place an ubiquitous herbivore that almost anything could feed on.

Done. Well, I'd love to stay and chat but it's 4am here and I haven't slept in two days. Blame my torrid affair with Drawbro's pet Govkar, Sherbert.

All kidding aside, it's late and I need to sleep. I'm losing sanity, clarity and focus. Keep Fortune bumped for me, (and even contribute if you don't mind) and I hope this thread goes well in my absence.

I would appreciate it if the evo ideas I posted to the last thread would be reposted here. I would do it myself, if I had an access to a computer.

dont worry, we have not yet explored sexual dimorphism in all of the potential tribal species. where there is sex to be put on things, there will be drawbro.

So are we still going with just one tribal species for surface? Or have we decided not do that?

Most of this appear in the IRC.

Hmm... I wonder if Drawbro's suggestive artwork would be a good thing to use in order to convince people to come into the chat for a little Q and A.

Also, the background plants I had ideas for in the previous thread. Just some minor underbrush around the rivers.
1. Bouquet Stalk. Poison Evola descendant. Two meter tall plant.
2. River Vase. Poison Evola descendant. Foot tall shrub that grows on the shores.
3. Shock Root. Marsh Evola descendant. When disturbed, this small plant unleashes a powerful electric shock. The bulge near the base contains a simple brain structure and capacitor gel.
4. Pool Evola. Descended from basic Evolas. Aquatic plant. Upper part of the leaf floats on the water's surface.
5. Can't think of a name. Descended from Yantars. Grows on dead trees. What look like flowers are actually sporing structures.

bronze, I have a simple goal, that is to make all of the picture related species viable for tribal. I think just having two options is sort of shit, especially with all the work you guys put into them. So for now, keep fleshing them out and make them viable, instead of part of the background noise. you guys tell me, if you had any choice, what would it be?
>>
Geists for sure. They're gonna be *different*

As for the others.... I think puruus would be a good choice, though it'd be nice to have a puncha or strida tribe.

Punchas: Honor Bound Warriors
Stridas: Manipulative Elves
>>
File deleted.
>>19891330
If I had any choice it'd be the aliens from the Prometheus movie, lol.
I did tell Nad that I'd run a tribe of Geist for him, but I'm also coming up with a ton of ideas for the Puruu. I'm a bit torn, honestly. So many good ideas for both, then again, I've also got ideas for the Stridas and the Punchas (they need new names, btw). I suppose I could just post the quick blurbs I have for those last two here and let another take 'em and run with it. But not right now, my DnD game's tonight and I actually need to prepare.

>>19891195
5. Flantar. Flower + Yantar = Flantar
Other suggestions: Flowtar, Flontar, Rositar, Rostar, Oseantar
>>
>>19891491
feel free to flesh out the races, and yes, stridas and punchas totally need new names. I still imagine the punchas to be arrogant, and looking down on other races, but not evil.
>>
>>19891574
Then I'll do so when I get back. Also, nongent, you want us to be anonymous or to namefag it up in here?
>>
>>19891491
Doesn't matter what it sounds like, but I just like how the name Oseantar looks. It is decided!

One question in my mind is if Punchas and Stridas have larval young. They're descended from Glunds, which are semi-arthropods. Personally, I think it would make them a bit more interesting. If so, this would probably also apply to the rest of the Thudder-based creatures too.
>>
>>19892148
Well, I suppose you can pronounce it however you want, but if you wish, I can give you the pronunciation I used to make it when I get back tonight from DnD.
As for larval Thudders/Punchas/Stridas, I like that. It is really different, I say we go with it.
>>
Didn't we determine at some point that Punchas would always be born as twins to make for a unique society?
>>
>>19892433
Yeah, it was mentioned here: >>19793246 and I offered an idea here: >>19793370.

All right, I've got some new names for the punchas and stridas

Stridas: Selvs, Felen, Alufs

Punchas: Trabs, Melaks, Brawns
>>

A new scwhar species emerges.

The great schwar is a dangerous predator that stalk the hexis and balloon forests using it's strong fangs and claws to kill it's prey.
>>
>>19894036
Alufs is close to the name for Tribal Hoppas (Alun). I do like the sound of Felen.
>>
I picked somewhat "elfy" names for the Stridas, cause thats how I envision them: Tricksters that maniuplate everyone, and don't want to fight directly. My idea of them is mainly based off the evolution description that an Anon posted that gave them their first glimmer of intelligence. It talked about how they would try and trick predators, which made me think of an entire race of Eldrads,
>>
I suggested to NG in the IRC that any creatures that players didn't adapt to the surface just didn't wander from the opened caves. Some, we can easily label as nocturnal if desired.
>>
>>19891574

What do the punchas do ? Kick ?
>>
>>19894194

What about Elen, Imin or Iminye? Names are references to the "Adam and Eve" of the Elves in the Lord of the Rings mythos.
>>
Hmm... I like the Elen... perhaps the Eleni as a plural?

And what do you guys think of my names for the punchas?

Pending the name, the Elen now have some fluff.

There are three social castes within Elen society, consisting of females, low males, and high males.

Female Elen (A.) are the gatherers of the system, with their sleeker, spikeless shells allowing for quick and quiet travel through the forests. They lack the heel spurs of the males, and their manes are often particularly short in comparison. Their horns hook back, and are only of much use as a quick defense.

Low males (C.) are fill the role of defending the group from would-be attackers. Their horns are long and unadorned, perfect for spearing foes. Their heel spurs are sharp and hard, and their hooked shoulder spikes can deliver a painful ramming blow.

High males (B.) are the highest caste, and hold much of the power in settling disputes and dictating the group's actions. There is generally only one High male to a group, but co-ruling brothers or even unrelated individuals who have formed a particular bond are not unheard of. They have massive manes and large, decorous horns that they use in threat displays to ward off enemies and exert command over their followers.

Elen reproduce via eggs that hatch into grubs. These grubs are generally helpless, save for powerful jaws, and need near-constant care. Low males not actively patrolling the group's territorial boundaries are tasked with caring for the grubs. After two years' time in their larval state, Elen metamorphose into their adult forms. They continue to grow, shedding their armor plates in early spring to be replaced in roughly a week's time with larger and better-fitting shells.
>>
>>19903290

>The leading elen males have long manes and decorative horns.

Fabulous.
I approve this.

Now we need to come up with something for the Log'eads.
I liked the idea of the twin thing.
Maybe, in order to make their thudder ancestory clear, instead of giving live birth, they also lay eggs, BUT these eggs always contain two developing embryos.
I think that they should lack a grub/larval stage however. It could take place while they are still inside the egg.

Perhaps their eggs develop themselves?
They could start as small fleshy pouch like things, that the Log'eads could place on their kills, in which the eggs then grow and leech of nutrients, eventually becoming somewhat bigger cryssalids from which the twin childrend emerge.
The duration and the strength and size of the children could depend on the amount of food that was "sacrificed" to the eggs.
>>
I have a reprieve from real life, just for a moment, and damn. You guys have been busy, and it looks great. Options...options...Log'eads lay one very large basketball sized egg. The time carrying the thing defiantly incapacitates the female. Inside this huge egg, the twins undergo the larval stage and emerge as little pseudo adult looking things, but all scrawny and pathetic. Their appetites are massive, and the first thing they eat? Either each other, or to prevent it, a fresh kill the egg is placed in or by.

see the kiwi bird, their children are born as pretty much miniature adults from one giant egg that nearly kills the female due to crushing her organs.

The egg would be sturdy, and the little creatures first task would be to punch their way out of the egg, so they are born with scraped knuckles. Thus the name for the baby would be a scraper. this is just a thought cooked up in about a minute.

Born essentially in a pupal stage? That sounds pretty cool.

To say something for Puruus, their current range is both balloon and normal forests. I'd even say that the two, along with the dream forests are all just parts of a much larger Jungle biome.
Wetter areas are mainly Balloon. Mold infestation becomes Dream (expanse held back by Lesser Oghmas. Still goes through fluctuation).
>>
>>19907579
Good to know. I imagine each separate population of Puruus could develop into different cultures. The values and traditions of their societies could be shaped by their environments.

A mini ecosystem is a huge thing to support in terms of nutrients. Now, it's important to note that despite hardly ever doing so, B. Lubs are still capable of locomotion. They aren't sessile, but they admittedly appear that way.
A Titanolub in an area will often deplete a small area of its lake or river of nutrients. So, they use their tripod "legs" to walk over to another side of the pond, or to get up and move to a different freshwater body altogether. Their going is slow, but that just makes it easier for any puruu that happen to be along for the ride.

Also, a second little oasis dish begins to form underneath the first. Puruus go between these two by either climbing or sliding down on slime-vines.

Here's a different take on the Stridas

Over generations the Strida developed bipedal movement and opposable thumbs. With the new posture they are able to see predators and reach for new food sources. With the new digit they were able to experiment with their environment. They grasped the branches of the Hexis trees to reach its fruit. Their diet also includes the Wood Schwar that live in the Hexis Tree. They compete with the Monkey and Deer Stridas for these insects. They rack their antlers against the tree to uncover them. Their antlers wear off and stay a manageable length doing this. Sometimes their antlers would just break off.

Tribal Stridas are seasonal migrates. They divide the year into two major seasons, the Forest season when they are stationary under the forest canopy, and the Plains season when the tribe travels south into the prairie.
>>
>>19908417
During the Forest Season, there is plenty of fruit and game under the Hexis trees. It is a time of growth and new life. Upon returning to the forest the tribe the tribe prepares a feast, play games, and sleep with their mates. New mothers are celebrated for the season. Infants are born walking on four legs and quickly learn to right themselves within an year.

Life is less hostile and fosters new ideas and tools. Their first tools were their own antlers. They ripped them off their heads and used them as to reach fruit on the tallest branches. They also used them as clubs against dangerous predators. Their favored prey are the Grips. They started using Vine Hexis as rope material by knocking off the unneeded thorns. While they have not tamed the Frenna, a Runna descendant, they have developed a friendly relationship with the beast. The Stridas treat them with forest fruit they cannot reach. There are ideas to make a saddle and use Freena as pack animals.
>>
>>19908428

When the fruit and game runs out, the Strida migrate to the plains every year. This is the Plains Season. It is a time of wild hunts and the fiery prairie. In the Plains, they are vulerable to the aggressive wildlife, such as the Gesh and the Punchas. Fortunately their upright posture let them see the danger. They escape when they can, but will defend their young. Veteran hunters lead the others in search of game. The grazing Paresh are difficult to catch. Any sound out of place causes them to look up and run. The Strida hunters have to sprint through the grass on all fours to catch them.

The Plains Season is a time for great and fallen hunters. Veteran hunters and tribe elders are buried on the west side of the migration trail to quickly send them to the afterlife. Other tribe members are buried on the east, so they can revisit the family for one day before passing on.

The plains are home to the Paari Grass and Busharri. The Strida grind the plants up and mix in river water to make a primitive oatmeal. They use this as a food staple. After the first cold snap, the tribe returns to the Forest.
>>
>>19908437
From this cycle came specialized roles within the tribe. Hunters venture into the wilderness for meat. Grazers gather grasses and fruit to make a more stable food source. Stewards protect the camp and manage the resources of the tribe. And Elders who have seen many cycles of the seasons direct the tribes actions. Children take one of these appointments when they come of age.

Beside these there is one more role, Dream Shamans

Strida tribes member that come into contact with the Dream Gesh, suffer fantastic hallucinations but also interesting insight. Shamans follow the Dream Gesh collecting the Gesh Rot, the psychoactive fungi dust and spores. They carry a leather pouch filled with the magic powder, and habitually inhale from their pouch spacing out for several hours. They are only slightly lucid when not inhaling the Gesh Rot.
>>
>>19908459
The tribe regards the Dream Shamans with fascination and contempt. They often act foolish during serious matters such as Elder conversations or the Wild Hunts. At any one time, there is one master who may have a couple of apprentices. To regular tribesmen, dreams are short trips to "the Dreaming," a supernatural realm which overlays the waking world. During sleep the spirit may leave the body and travel returning upon waking.

Shamans walk the Dreaming while awake. Through this they have seen the Swari plant grow in seconds before their eyes. They have visited strange and terrible beings as well as angelic presences. They have also ruined Wild Hunt ambushes with their hysterics. Though these trips may be chaotic hallucinations, consistent details reappear. Shamans say that the world was created during the dreamtime. Before birth the spirit inhabits this time and place, and after death the spirit returns. The dreamtime is primal creation outside of the waking world's natural laws.
>>
I like your ideas, but ripping their antlers off for tools? I don't think so
>>
>>19908517
Not him, but my thought was this. Elk on Earth lose their horns wholesale every year. They pop right off and folks in Canada often joke when picking them up "oh, hey, look I found a 12-point buck!". Sort of like "the fish was this big but he got away".
Anyway, I was thinking the Stridas/Elen/Imin/Iminye/Whatever-we-call-them could have something similar. Ever so often they shed their antlers and grow new ones. They could use these fallen antlers as weapons.
>>
>>19903290
I read the Log'eadz post before this one, and I have to bring up that Thudders are descended from Glunds, which gave live birth. Larva won't conflict with anything though. Maned grubs. I love it.

As for skeletons, another Glund/Ramel trait. Earth, there are only endo and exoskeletons. Gutworem line, a hybrid skeleton. All bones grow, but those which are exoskeletal develop in layers that fall of over time. Diagram provided.

Personally, my vote is for Iminye.
If no one minds, I'd like to post my own Iminye culture idea.

I had thought I could interbreed them with the arboreal striders and then they would live in the trees like wood elves or something. Living in woven tree-cities (like the Wookies in Star Wars) that would make the Swiss-Family Robinson jealous.

As for the anon's idea of migrating Iminye, Forest/Plains season sounds kind of mundane. I thought maybe "The Time of Leaves" or "The Time of Spirals" for the Hexis Forests (the trees' shape... technically a helix, but I though it could fit well enough). Then the "Time of Grass" or the "Time of Open Skies" for the Plains.

one major difference I see is between walking infants and grub babies. The walking infants would make more sense for a migrate tribe. Otherwise, these ideas could still mesh well.

The female antler does not grow as long as the male. And one male, the tribe leader, would almost never rack his head against the Hexis trees making his antlers taller than the rest.

I am fulfilling on of my earlier evo ideas now.

The blung weed is a sivari plant that has specialized into growing in the nutrient rich ground that the blung fields leave behind when the blung leave and the fields die.
This sivari starts to grow in the early stages of the blung field's death, and it is partly responsib for speeding up the process. It has small, sharp and sticky shard like seeds that embe themselves to the skin of the blungs, and thus travel with the horde where ever they go.
The plant starts to grow when the seeds detect that the field is growing weak. These plants are telltale signs f the blung field's death.
>>
>>19909173
I don't know where these grubs come from. Lets look at tadpoles. Frogs evolved in such a way so that their young mirror their own stages of evolution. They are amphibious. Their ancestors were egg laying fish. Frogs lay eggs submerged in water which hatch these fish like creatures with gills and fins and such.

Having grub babies would make sense if I saw Stridas as coming from an egg laying creature, or an skin shedding creature to explain their maturity. I don't see that.

I propose the walking infant because of what I know about Deer, which the Strida are more like. While their infants don't go through metamorphosis, they do come out of the womb, if not walking then walking very soon.
>>
>>19909892

Stridas are glund descendants, which are insectoid creatures.
The thudders, from which the stridas evolved from, were primitive ramels, which in turn evolved from glunds, which were basically armored grubs.
The stridas aren't mammalian at all.

Plus, we (at least I) would like something a little less Earth-like than walking deer. Combining traits of radically different Earth creatures is an easy way to do that.

Just as Nad said, they're not mammals. They do give live birth, but that's where similarities end. They have exoskeletons, and shed layers of them every couple years. If fact, this large family of animals is the most dominant on this world. I don't know if any others than true ramels even have body heat.
>>
>>19910175
That's a good point... we haven't really been discussing endo/ectothermic properties have we?
>>
>>19909974

I didn't figure they were mammalian, to do that you need more than live birth, such as milk. In any case I never realize they had exoskeletons.

While some of the Glund evolved into more insectoid creature, such as the nesting Glund, others lost their insect qualities. The Poison Glund actually lost their antenna which were replaced with eyes. I figure the thudders evolved from these.

In any case, if it makes more sense for Strida to birth grub babies, so be it. It's a small detail that can be rewriten easily.

As for me I'm going to give some love to another candidate.

Bump with fluff

The Iminye developed a means of communication with simple grunts. Upon hearing the music of the Grips, the Stridas began mimicking them. Initially it was to lure the game out of hiding, until they started using their Grip calls outside the hunt. They incorporated the hi-pitch grip calls with their own bass-heavy grunts. Their language became strung out with bellows and peppered with tweets.

<NOTRIPFORTHEHIVE> Just have to point something out concerning the Stridas eatng bugs. Only the upright did that, because it was a food supply that they could access without needing to compete for it. Monkeys and Deer are complete herbivorous.

haha...perfect strangers cousin balki coat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balki_Bartokomous
-----------

Lets talk about shwirms. arguably the most insect like. lays clutches of eggs, then another comes along and fertilizes the now laid eggs. quite romantic i know. The eggs are laid in a communal pile, and communally fertilized, as it is most efficient. When children are born the defective ones are instinctively killed/ eaten. They live for their colony first, and themselves second. The concept of loss of self/ death, is not a big deal to them. There are many, and there will be many more. Very practical in all approaches, as well as slightly curious about new things. communicate via ultra high frequency chirps. To outsiders it would appear they do not talk. extremely helpful and cooperative in tribal matters. If one individual is farming by itself, another will begin to aid in the process if inactive. Crushed under a landslide? everyone will help rescue the trapped individual. Leaders emerge from those who are naturally dominant, and slightly more independent. likely the smallest, and weakest of the tribal candidates, but also to have the largest tribal populations.

as always, all suggestions, i leave the progress of traits up to you guys.

On the Log'eadz

I think that having them all be twins would make for a unique society. Individual leaders would be rare, and likely seen as tragic heros, since they can no longer know the joy of a birth-bond. If one Log'ead decides he likes a girl, his brother will likely follow suit and show interest in the girls sister. Log'ead individual combat will never be truly individual, as twins will always fight together. There may also be different types of twins.

Intergating the different genders and correcting infants:

Gender and Children

The Male Strida of the Iminye tribe are tall standing on their hoofs. They can run on all fours by bending their backs down. They have a pony tail mane that roots itself at the base of the neck. Their antlers grow and fall off annually. Their chest plates are broad to improve muscular strength. The Female Strida of the tribe have the same standing posture and height, but their antlers curve backward and are shorter. Their shoulder plates are small to improve flexibility.

The Hyper-male Strida are unique and rare in the Iminye tribe. The exact genetic expression is distinct and depends on many hereditary and environmental factors. They grow spiked antlers from their shoulder blades. Their head antlers never fall off growing massive in their lifetimes. Their manes grow from all over their back.

Females give birth to immature grubs that cling to the mother. The tribe weaves cradles of leather that the mothers carry. These grubs need constant care and attention. They eat, sleep, and shit. They grow their exoskeleton over time and begin walking on all fours by the time they first shed. They will shed less frequently the more they mature.
>>
>>19923513
Tribal Roles
From the tribes annual migration certain roles developed that Strida take on for most of their adult life.

Hunters leave the camp during the day to hunt the local wildlife. The majority of this group are males. In the Time of Leaves, females may be escorted since the Forest are less hostile. Female can also provide support for the hunting group by scouting ahead, carrying messages, or being clever in the Hexis Trees. In the Time of Grasses, females are restricted from the hunt. Hyper-males are almost always lead the hunting party, and are always a boon in the Wild Hunts. Tactics revolve the hyper-male charging into the target.

Grazers are mostly females since they travel the tree canopy easier. During the Time of Leaves, a male may follow if he was particularly interested in fruit or other vegetation. During the Time of Grasses, Grazers are always escorted by a few strong males while they gather prairie grasses.

Stewards are heterogeneous, being made of older adults. They are responsible for building and maintaining camp structures, as well as accounting the tribes resources. They know who everybody is and what their roles are. They are first responders when the camp is threatened and rally the Hunters. They are also responsible for holding tribal feast.

Elders direct the actions of the tribe and are made of the eldest adults. They use their experience to make informed decisions as best they can. Their experience is narrowed to their lifetimes. They sometimes rely on Shamans to find answers to the tribes problems. Hyper-males often do not live to be and elder, but can wrestle control of tribe away from them in crisis.

Meet the charger oghma.
It is a predatory offshoot of the greater oghmas, that actively hunt creatures of the plains in which they live.
These oghmas are ambush predators. They partly bury themselves to the ground, appearing as simple boulders, waiting for a suitable victim to come close enough. When this happens, the oghma springs out of it's hiding, and charges the prey with surprising speed, using it's bulk and strong claws to quickly maim and kill it's victim.

The charger oghmas are big and strong enough to take down almost any prey that it can encounter in the plains they live in.

Looks awesome, Nad.

Got some random stuff for the Bladeshwirm (needing a new name, at least, I think). One of these is the skeleton of a language. Nothing concrete yet, just the nonsense words I think I'll build off of and an inspiration.

rôtúshkä, rasthú, gûnh, hägoich-gêkä, mônh-häj, sägiir, hägetch, tsäbvô, sùl

The accent marks are just my own personal pronunciation guide, in case I forget. I think for the language I'm going to use Russian as an inspiration (or at least a starting point).

I'm thinking an injection of far east culture & religion (buddhism and/or hinduism, perhaps) will mix things up a bit.

emailed IG with an update on the thread and game. hoping for a response within 24 hours, hopefully positive, if not, the only direction is forward within the confines of the rules. In the meantime, im quite impressed with the fluff that has been made. good job guys. These are all far more fleshed out then any race before.

Each tribal game has been an experiment, focusing on different things or play styles. I think this one will get it "right" not to say that each one before it was not awesome in its own way. But now we are focusing on background of the "characters" very strongly, as well as a pre-established set of rules for the setting, so no one gets blindsided with sudden limitations.
>>
How the upcoming game might be set up:

I have a goal, that while everyone is playing in the same setting, not everyone will be forced to have the same gameplay experience. Some of you wanted tribal extermination, some of you wanted more, here is my solution.

Pick a race
state if you want to play hardcore- hardcore means i will not offer ways for your tribe to survive an extinction event. you can "Die".

next you tell me in the same post how you want to experience your game- social story driven, trying to make a better life for your tribe, slavers, endless combat and carnage, an endless nomadic journey, etc. there are many more choices.

next: do you want to interact with other players? if so, its going to happen, it could be good, it could be bad. but you will state what you want.

next: pick your location, either a normal location with reasonable resources etc, or a hard location with misery and horrible.
what can be expected out of hard mode locations: disease, famine, predatory beasts and hostile tribes trying to extort you if you are weaker then them.

what you will not find:
apocalypse
great end game army to destroy all
too much over the topness
no mining, no metal, no magnets, no electricity, guns, etc. but i know you guys, within those confines there will be many attempts to bend the rules as hard as possible.

The following are player decided settings. So far as everybody is concerned we are playing the Tribal game of the Southern Continent. This is the same setting for everybody, but you have the option to tell the DM/sub-DM what gameplay experience you want.

For example: if you really like the setting and want to write a brilliant epic but don't want other players involved, the DMs are ready to do that. On the other hand: if you really want to build a society that will stand the test of time and are open to other players being involved, the DMs can do that too. Else: if you just want a spear and armor and to battle some terrible creatures with everything on the line, guess what the DMs can do that too.
>>
>>19939156
Hardcore (Yes / No)
This setting explictly states whether or not your tribe can fail. A tribe fails when it can no longer support its members and must disband, or when there are too few members left to go on. The surviving members get absorbed into neighboring tribes or may die in the harsh environment. Setting this option means the DM will not offer ways for your tribe to survive when it is close to failing.

Gamestyle (Story / Development / Combat)
This setting reflects focus of your experience, the pace, and type of hazards you wish to challenge. Bare in mind the Southern Continent isn't civilized and is very dangerous whichever choice you choose. Also note that the game can dynamically change from one style to another.

In a Story Driven game, the DM will facilitate the encounters of individual tribe members. These members become Characters of Legends through achieving their personal goals. Choose this option if you're more interested in a game that moves at its own pace.

In a Tribal Development game, the DM will facilitate encounters of the whole tribe. The tribe attempts to cooperate together to build and protect itself. The pace of this game is regular compared to other players with everybody progressing at the same speed.

In a Combat game, the DM will facilitate hostile encounters. Whether by member or group, the tribe fights the whole Continent to survive. The pace of this game is unpredictable
>>
>>19939162
Player Interaction (Open / Removed / Isolated)
This setting tells the DM and other players how open to other player interactions you are. Interactions should be between representatives of each of the tribe, or between named Characters should you wish. This setting is a flag to others and can be changed during game.

Being Open means that you freely welcome encounters with other tribes, and will pursue relations with other tribes. The nature of which could friendly, feuding, or fair trade.

Being Removed means that while you welcome encounters with other tribes, you won't pursue long relationships with them. Or if you do, it will be in the background while you focus on your own tribe.

Being Isolated means that you will concentrate on your own tribe. Any encounter you have with another tribe is minimal. You're tribe is either located on the other side of the Continent, or doesn't involve itself with outside influences.
>>
>>19939169
The above are optional. For players we need this of you: Pick a Race, Pick a Location.

Locations have a difficulty rating attached to them, so be mindful. A higher rating reflects how harsh an environment is against a tribe. A Low rating has plenty of resources and little competition from the wildlife or other tribes. An Average rating has enough resources for a tribe to survive and experiment with and some hostile wildlife. A High rating has scarce resources and over competition from predators and stronger NPC tribes.
>>
current projects in work include map with a scale and unit of measurement, how fast tribal races can move per day. further traits of each tribal race.

a permanently fixed spike will get in the way, but here is a quick solution as to how a retractable spike works. the spike is actually a very long and modified bone, fitted to a groove with some play for up and down motion. With a series of muscle contractions, the spike is pushed forward inside its tube like sheath where the hook and latch system highlighted in red circles catches, there is some up and down play to this mechanism, which is how it disengages after being locked into place via a constrictor muscle that wraps around the "sheath". With the locking feature it would make sense why the spike would not simply slide back into the arm on contact with a hard surface. I was inspired by the raccoon penis. when they mate a similar locking function comes into play.
>>
>>19948342
Interesting. I never knew that about raccoon genitalia (then again, I'd never thought to ask). I suppose my distaste for the retraction is that it evolved out of nowhere (in my opinion, anyway). One moment they're happy herbivores, the next they've become upright and all of a sudden they have retractable claws. Seemingly out of nowhere, like hippos morphing into Wolverine.

Family Division Each established family of the Iminye tribe is created when the founder impresses the tribe to warrant the honor. The key members to impress are the Dream Shamans who have the power to create a family, or the Elders who can pled to the Shamans. The Founding Ritual involves reciting the impressive deed and entering the Dreaming. There the Shamans discovers a new secret and presents it to the Founder. This secret could be a story, a oddity, or even a being. There are currently four different families in the Tribe. The Shamans have divided the Families based on their own names for the seasons.

The Time of Spirals >Earthshaking Grub The Founder of the Earthshaking Grub was a thinker and inventor. When his mate was burdened by her many grub babies, he wrapped the grubs with leather pouches. The Shamans were impressed with the portable cradles and invited him to inhale the Gesh Rot Dust. They walked the Dreaming where they encountered the Giant Grub Baby which shook the earth. The Founder wrapped the giant in leather shrinking it down to size. This family forsters invention and celebrates birth.

>Inviting Bark The Founder of the Inviting Bark was a calm heart and peace maker. When two feuding Elders argued between living in the Forest and living in the Prairie, she promoted the benefits of both options and presented a compromise that both Elders accepted. The neutral Elder was impressed and glad that the tribe did not split. He presented the Founder to the Shamans and were impressed. They inhaled and spaced out until they became one with the Hexis Trees. This family forsters calm hearts and celebrates peace.
>>
>>19957483
that came out weird...

The Time of Open Sky
>Grim The Founder of the Grim was known as stoic and a fearsome warrior. He was a hyper-male that was recognized posthumously for his sacrifice. When recounting his deeds, the Shamans were astonished by the many times he defended the tribe single handedly. They invited his mate to inhale the Gesh Rot dust. During their visit to the Dreaming, they encountered a tall and dark figure standing against the setting sun. This family forsters stoic determination and recognizes the sacrifices of fallen hunters.

>Fiery Messenger
The Founder of the Fiery Messenger was a spirited friend and loyal defender. When the tribe was threatened by a great prairie monster, he ran faster than any other to defend. The Founder ran arriving in the morning to the Ripper Tyrant menacing the tribe. When the Shamans invited him into the Dreaming, they raced into the sun and brought back a friendly spirit that told them secrets. This family foresters bravery and celebrates success.

Things to consider. How can the shwrims gain hands for tool use?

Heres a few ideas:
The elbow blade could mutate to grow forward and be a fake thumb.

They could start favoring one hand over another and use a finger on that hand as a proper thumb for the rest.

Yet another idea says that alone they can only do simple things like holding or swinging. With another shwrim they could do more complex actions. Alone they are less. This could sprial into more socal consquences...

Sure thing. Evolution games. This is actually just a discussion thread, as we're about to move into a tribal game, but the general idea is that OP posts a few creatures for players to make small edits to. The edits should be small things that would improve the creature's ability to survive in a chosen habitat, such as camouflage, quills, poison, running fast, etc.

This started a few months ago with a worm, a slug, and a jellyfish. Now over the course of several threads, we now have over a hundred different creatures inhabiting this world of ours. The regular players here are generally helpful to newcomers, and welcome them to take part.

Now for a quick rundown on tribal. A handful of creatures developed the ultimate edge over each other, sapience. In tribal, we pick a creature from the ones in the area that we'd like to play as. The idea is to get our own little civilizations running. Involves some role-playing.

>tldr; Evo games: Badly simulate evolutions with doodles, but who cares, it's fun. Tribal games: Early alien civilization. Oldfags (to here at least): They are helpful fellows.

If you want to try tribal, stick around. If you want evo, there's another game that runs quite often called Fortune.

A new blung species emerges.

The blungdozers are the biggest blung creatures yet to exist. They are the size of a car.
They evolved when the blungs started to move more and more to the outskirts of the hexis forests and jungles. The blungdozers evolved from stronger blung drones that started clearing away the undergrowth to make room for the blung field.

Over time, they grew bigger and bigger, until they became their current size. They are able to quickly tear down bushes and even small trees, and together they can quickly clear trough relatively big grooves in few weeks.
Initially, these blungs cut down a clearing for the field, and then they start to harvest wood to bring back to the field so it can grow.
Because of this, the fields of the blung hordes that have this new blung breed tend to last longer, as the field gets more food.

These blungdozers are also territorial and resilient, as over time, they also started to protect the blung fields from predators with their bulk and strength.

Also, a little extra on the blungs:
All blung breeds are capable of creating a blung field, so the makeup of the blung horde belonging to each field highly depends on the environment. In the plains for example, the blung fields tend to have more blung hounds. Feel free to come up with your own blung breeds to different biomes.

It is actually a baby version of these things.
They are basically blind gecko/lions that live in prides with one dominant male, few submissive males and loads of females.

They communicate with sonar and pheromones that their slimy skin excretes. They also have a communal "sight" that is based on the echolocation "singing" that the pride does in rhythm. This allows them all to "see" their surroundings and the location of all the pack members.
Oh, and their slimy skin also slightly bends light, allowing them to sneak around in the shadows better. Their skin is extremely sensitive, which allows them to "feel" when they are in light or in the shadows.
>>
Ah yeah, forgot to mention!
the South so far has the widest range of biomes, because of potential overlap between biomes. Take the Blung Fields and the Hallucinoforests. What happens when a Blung Field creeps upon a Lub Forest? How about the Hallucinoforests? What happens if a Lub got the Hallucinomold on it? These, and potential other biomes (Lacorra badlands + blung fields? Lacorra + hallucinoforests?) could each have different creatures evolving to them.
To make it clear, I'll list the biomes in the South Continent:
-plains (Siwari, mostly)
-desert (somewhere to the east; I did mention sandstorms where the sand were carried from Central, right?)
-mountains (central mountain range)
-hills (foot of the mountains)
-caverns (and their different sub-biomes based on depth)
-Lacorra badlands (landscape formed by Lacorra's land corals)
-Hallucinoforests (spread by that LSD Gesh, I think; basically forest but contaminated by Hallucinomold)
-Blung fields
-Lub forests
-Hexis forests
and maybe, if there's immigrants from other continents later on, we might have
-Frilla forests (which will have a hard time competing with the other biomes)
>>
>>19976906

Sounds good.
Your comment about the blung fields adapting to the lub forest gives me some ideas...
Also, I am not sure how the lubs would react to the hallucinogenic moss, seeing how the lubs themselves are basically animals that have formed a symbiosis with algae.

The blungs basically spread an invasive mini biome in their wake, which would be different in each "main" biome they go to.
In the plains, there would be mostly fast running blung hounds, drones and perhaps sprayer blungs, as the other blung breeds would be perhaps ill suited for the area, and the floating overblungs would be unable to hunt properly as they could be easily spotted over the distance.
In the forest there would be more blungdozers that would harvest wood, along with b lung hounds that do the basic hunting and few overblungs that would catch things from the canopy and so on.

Feel free to offer more ideas for blung breeds, and how they would adapt to different biomes.
Perhaps they could start infesting the ponds of the those certain lub species? I imagine that these blung fields would mostly have overblungs and perhaps some other new blung breeds as inhabitants.
But as I said, I am open to new ideas for these things.

What would happen if blungs tried to enter the lacorra reefs?
>>
>>19977107
So what the blungs do is "corrupt" the ground and then somehow adapt new forms for their own Tyranid-infested biomes? How long would all this take? Is it a slow or fast process?
>>
File: 1342889112372.png-(266 KB, 2500x1000, Blung strains.png)
266 KB
>>19978673
It isn't quite like that.
They don't really corrupt the ground, more like leech of from the nutrients of that area. The different breeds are a result of evolution and adaptation to new niches that help the whole horde and their field to survive. The field is basically where all the blung species reproduce, and they all increase their reproductive success by working with each other in keeping the placenta field alive.

The blungs form their own ecosystem that invades other ecosystem, leeches of nutrients from them and then leaves.
All the breeds have a distinct niche in this ecosystem.
The overblungs are scouts and tend to be the smartest ones, they also communicate very easily with the other blung breeds, as well as seek out new nesting grounds.
The blung hounds are fast predators that hunt down food for the field.
The hoppers are swarming small critters that overwhelm their foes and protect the field.
The drones keep the field clean, tend it, remove parasites from it and so on, as well as defend it.
The crawlers are everywhere, predigesting the food the other blungs bring to the field. They breed rapidly and basically work as fast food for the bigger blungs.
The sprayers defend the field as well as quickly spread it with their emils based spit.
The blungdozers defend the field, help it spread by clearing out forests for it and harvesting plant material to it.

Additional note is that these are separate species that all are a result of evolution. No zerg or tyranid like rapid adaptation, but instead the slow adaptation to different niches. Also, not all blung hordes have the same makeup of blung species. The blungdozers for example are mainly seen in the areas near forests and so on. The makeup of the horde is highly dependent on the environment.

Adding few a cedya species to the dream forests and normal ones in order to increase biodiversity.

The stilt cedyas are large mobile cedyas that mostly feed on trees using their strong "mouth" tentacles to suck out fluids from the innards of the trees. They can also occasionally supplement their diet wit animals they kill and corpses they find.

They have two powerful and accurate spore cannons they use to defend themselves and to kill their prey. They also have grasper tentacles which they use to place their "eggs" on tree branches high up in order to protect their young.

Unlike their ancestors, which reproduced by infecting corpses with cedya spores, the stilt cedyas reproduce by pudding off "eggs" in which smaller versions of themselves develop. When two stilt cedyas meet, they will begin to communicate with each other by using the colorful pedals they use to protect their backside in which their eggs gestate, and loud howls they produce.
After this exchange, they will turn their backs on each other, and use the two tentacles on the tips of their backs to spray reproductive spores on the back of the other cedya, and thus inseminate it.

Young stilt cedyas move in small packs, usually composed from the ones that hatched from the same "egg" cluster.
When they grow older they will disperse however and start moving on their own.

Another cedya species here.

The slaugher cedyas are fast and aggressive predators. They live in both the dream and the normal forests.
They use their spore cannon to defend themselves and bring down bigger prey, and then they eat it with their chest "mouth" that has many teeth and grasper tentacles.

These cedyas prefer to ambush their prey. They lurk in the canopies of the trees and then pounce their victims, and quickly kill them by snapping their limbs and necks with their strong arms.
They then quickly begin to rip parts off from the prey with their chest mouths.

They reproduce by eating large masses of meat, and then infesting it with their spores. This results in the development of a fleshy "egg" inside of which about a dozen new slaughter cedyas gestate. They vomit these eggs out and then bury them underground.

In the dream forests, the gesh dreamers are on of the main targets of the slaughter cedyas, as the hallucinogenic spores of the gesh don't deter the fungal predators and thus make the gesh easy prey for the cedyas.

>>19979852
I messed around with your design as we discussed in irc, and this is what I came up with.

Regarding the desing of the blungs.
All the blungs share certain common morphological features, such as the 7 "ribs" that support their gas back, 6 limbs, 4 pincers and side fins. In some species, these features are altered, for example in the blung hounds, the ribs have formed a shell like structure and their 3 pairs of limbs have atrophied as their other pair of pincers took the place of legs.
The blungs started as an experiment of mine, as I wanted to test out how much I could morph and alter the same base form of the blung and come up with new and different things. All the breeds have clearly evolved from earlier ones, and I hope that if people make new blung breeds (which I encourage) they would think from what other breed it evolved from.

The one in this post could feasibly have evolved from either the sprayer blungs or the drone blungs.

Alright, three new trees for our enjoyment.
The Bräsis tree grows its many leaves in a long spiral snaking its way up the tree.

The Sapsis comes in two varieties, the smaller Blue Sapsis and the larger Grand Sapsis. Both however, only grow secondary and tertiary (and beyond) branches once the primary reaches a certain length, forming a thick "wall" of tangled branches and a clear tube of only thick primary branches in various stages of growth. This way, the plant doesn't try and form leaves when the branch is too small to reach the sun (overshadowed by its fellow branches) only coming out once its at the same length as its "siblings". Any energy gathered from these outer (and only) leaves goes into making and growing new branches, so despite not having leaves they're not out in the nutrition department.

File: 1342973119271.png-(483 KB, 1000x800, Lub forest blungs.png)
483 KB
Lub forests were a demanding environment for the blung hordes. The wast majority of the blung breeds could not live in the balloon forest, simply because they could not move from balloon to balloon easily.

Because of this, when the blungs first started infecting the lush pools of the titanolubs, their hordes were mostly composed of Overblungs and few blunghounds who had somehow managed to climb up to the pools of the tall lubs.

Over thousands of generations however, new blung species emerged. The Blungleeches and Blung hornets evolved from the overblungs, as some of them took up new niches. The blunghounds themselves adapted to the lub forest better and over time, they became new a whole new breed.

The overblungs still fulfill their ancient niche of maintaining order, communication and founding new fields for the horde.
The blungleeches are swarming small creatures which overwhelm their targets with their numbers and suck out their blood.
The blungwasps are the warriors of the horde, they use their many weapons, such as their claws and their poisonous tail beak to kill both prey and intruders. They can both emit a screeching howl as well as spit corrosive emils slime from their tail.
The Slasher blungs are fast predatory creatures which often both hunt and defend the field. Their strong legs allow them to jump from lub to lub quite easily and their hooked claws help them grab on to the skin of the balloons. They move in packs and hunt in the denser areas, in where the blungwasps can't fly.

The creatures aren't in scale to each other. Here are their proper sizes:
>>19990536
>>
>>19991442

Usually, the blung placenta field sucks nutrients from the surface it grows on, but this isn't as clear case with the lub forest blungs. Instead of completely leeching of the titanolub, their placenta fields form a semi symbiotic relationship with it.
The placenta field feeds the lub with some of the nutrients it extracts from the food the blungs bring to the digestion pools that lie in the center of the field. This helps the titanolub cope with the immense strain the blung field causes to it, as the field still does leech some nutrients from the titanolub itself, especially during times of poor hunting of the blungs.

This balance between the placenta field and the titanolub is frail, and it can easily be disrupted to a downwards spiral of parasitism by the field which eventually leads to the death of the lub, and of the field.
Because of this, the lub forest blungs tend to migrate very often, as their fields rarely last longer than few years. They are very mobile blungs, and can quickly find a new breeding ground.

They aren't that numerous however, as they can't reach the massive sizes of other blung hordes as easily due to the unstable nature of their fields. Competition for the titanolubs also keeps their numbers in check, as the puruus fiercely defend their nesting sites, which also are often located in the pools of the titanolubs.
These two factors keep the blungs from overwhelming the lub forests.

File: 1342983760334.png-(63 KB, 1200x1000, Wyvern geist fixed.png)

A new flier geist species emerges.

The Wyvern geist is the largest flying creature of the southern continent. They have hollow but sturdy bones and extremely strong muscles, allow them to fly despite their size.
They have extremely efficient respiratory system, that keeps their muscles pumped with oxygen and thus allows them to easily soar the skies of the plains and the mountains of the southern continent.

Unlike their smaller cousins who live in large bat like colonies, the wyverns live in far smaller family groups composed of one male and a female who mate for life, and their children.
The partners take turns in guarding the young and hunting, and when the young are old enough to fly themselves, the parents take them along for the hunting trips.

The wyvern geists hunt mainly runna creatures. Their hunting tactic is to soar high above the plains during nights, and scan them for targets. When they locate a resting runna herd, they emit a loud screech that sends the herd into panic. The moving runnas are easier targets to pick up trough the geist's sonar. The wyvern will then surge downwards and grab runnas with it's claws in it's toes and then carry it high in the air. It then drops the victim downwards to it's death and then lands to eat it.

The wyverns have very developed sonar sense. The hairs on their bodies allow them to pick up sounds and air movements very easily, and combined with their echolocation it gives them a very clear image of their surroundings. Their fin like jaw helps them pick up the bouncing sound waves they emit very well.

The wyverns are dangerous predators that can easily kill almost anything that lives in the plains. They hunt during the nights, when their prey are most vulnerable. They are the terrors of the dark that should be feared by all. The last thing one can hear in the plains is the ear splitting screech of the wyvern who is diving towards the kill.

Thanks.

Over thousands of generations the mobile lacorras become more and more predatory. They hunt in large slithering swarms, and attack using the buildup of electricity they generate together. In one swarm there can be up to hundreds of lacorras that all generate few volts of electricity. Together, the swarm can shock even a larger creature into submission.

After successfully either killing or more often paralyzing their prey, the lacorras begin to bore into the flesh of the victim, where they will then feast and lay their eggs.
These swarms of worms move mostly during the night, and attack unsuspecting prey.
They communicate with each other with their electricity as well as with chirps they produce by rubbing their sharp teeth against each other.

The hunter lacorra swarms are no longer entirely confined to the lacorra fields, instead, they have spread out to the forests and meadows of the southern continent. They don't tolerate dry environments that well, and thus they are extremely rare in the plains, with the exception of the lacorra reefs that are located in plains. In the reefs, the hunter lacorras can escape the heat into the old tunnels of other lacorra species.

(People can feel free to give them a better name. I suck at naming things.)

The bottom of the three last Shamblers should be a dot with those branching off.

It was a bad coloration that the Tuis took for the bright petal-like leaves. For millions of years, the color of bright pink has signified poison in Evolas and creatures living around them (primarily Frowgs). The hue changes to a deep blue tipped with crimson. With the danger color gone, Yazdas are more likely to spread their spores. (Hexises are sporing plants).

Works for me. I had just forgotten that name.

Also, so that my post wouldn't be useless, here is a new cedya species.

The Tree trap cedyas hang from branches of trees, and use their sticky tentacles to ensnare small creatures such as the gliding tree scwars. They then drag these prey to their stomach pit for digestion.

Their skin is covered in spore emitting pores. They use these pores to both spread their spores to the wind as well as to defend themselves. When a tree trap feels threatened it releases a massive cloud of flesh eating spores that will cause extreme pain and irritation in the skin and eyes of the attacker.

In addition to reproduction by spores, the tree traps also reproduce by budding off smaller versions of themselves that will then slowly move away from the parent fungi. The tree traps are capable of moving around, they are just very slow in their movements.

Posting this in case people want to make cedyas themselves.

The cedyas are fungal creatures. Their body is composed of countless long, thin and branching "ropes" of fungal matter, that have wrapped around each other tightly. Instead of muscles, their locomotion is based on fluid movements in specialized networks of fungal hoses that run inside their bodies. In short, they movement comes from hydraulics.

The cedyas are extremely adaptable in the form of their body, as they are basically composed from threads of fungi. Because of this, people can feel quite free in the design of the cedya if they make one.

Now, I will explain few of the most common parts found in the cedyas.

The cedyas see in the spectrum of infra-red and visible light. Their eye stalks are specialized for seeing visible light whereas the eyes in their spore sprayers are more primitive and see mainly in infra-red.

The spore sprayers can excrete clouds of flesh eating spores very rapidly, but they have quite poor range.

The spore cannons shoot blobs of goo filled with spores that ensnare their targets and leave them to be consumed by the spores.

The cedyas eat with their feeding tentacles, which quickly "grow" over their victim and digest it.

The skin pores also emit spores, they can create a haze of spores around the cedya that helps it escape threats.

The cedyas often also have many tentacles, and pedal like things that serve many roles from communication to protection.

The cedyas reproduce in many ways. The most common one is spore based, in which a spore that lands on a source of nutrients grows into a adult cedya.
The cedyas can also bud off smaller versions of themselves, and some even lay "eggs" and practice sexual reproduction.
>>
File: 1343041665985.png-(32 KB, 800x600, Puppeteer cedya.png)

>>20003037

People can of course come up with new parts themselves. The ones I posted were just the startup pieces.

Anyways, have some horror.

The puppeteer cedyas are small parasitic creatures that lurk in the trees and the undergrowth. Their goal is to pounce on the neck of a suitable host, and then quickly invade it's body.
They have paralyzing toxin in their strong fangs, and thus they only need to strike once to get their target.
When their target is paralyzed, the cedya starts to bore into the neck of the creature, and partially bury itself there. It will then extend it's feeder tentacles deep into the body of the victim and start feeding on it.

Leeching off all the life of the victim isn't the goal of this cedya however. As the host recovers from the effects of the poison, the cedya starts to control it, by causing immense pain in the host by moving it's feeder tentacles. Over the period of few days, the host is conditioned to obey the signals of the cedya or face horrible pain.
During this time, the cedya grows more and more deeper to the host. It's feeder tentacles branch out and entangle themselves with the host's organs, making the removal of the parasite all but impossible. The cedya also starts growing spore emitting organs in the lungs of the host, and thus causes it to spread the parasite around with every pained breath it takes.

The cedya also buds of smaller versions of itself that will then grow in the stomach of the host, feeding on the food the cedya directs the host to eat. Eventually, the host dies, and from it's body bursts out hundreds of new finger sized parasites.

The smart geist (better name is needed) have continued to grow more intelligent over the generations.

The most apparent change in them besides their more upright posture (they still can run on all fours if the situation needs it) is in their society.
As the intelligence of the geists grew, some of the more aggressive tendencies of the males started to fade, as smarter and more calculating behavior was preferred by the females. This resulted in a change of the makeup of the geist society. Instead of chasing away all other males, the dominant "alpha" males of the geist pride now tolerate other males as well, though they are kept submissive to the alpha by the pheromones the alpha releases in the large communal piles the geists gather to.

By preferring more cunning males, the females over time caused the birth of a new type of males who have suppressed their male hormone generation, which inadvertently caused the more brutish males to fall shorter on intelligence than the females and the new smart males, as the hormone promoted such extreme muscle growth and aggression.
These smart males resemble the normal sized females in size, strength and intelligence, and are often ignored by the bigger brute males and the alpha, as they don't see the small males as threats.

So in short, there are 3 types of males in the geist pride. The one alpha male who is bigger than the other males. The brute males who have the potential to become alphas, but their growth is kept in check by the alpha's pheromones. And finally the smart males who don't even compete for the status of the alpha, but instead mate with the females in secret.
>>
>>20003495

The females still make up about 60-70% of the pride. Their size and proportions vary from the normal more compact ones to the tall and elongated females. This variance is based both in genetics and the pheromone makeup of the pride. If there are few lanky females in the pride, the lack of this pheromone may prompt some of the females with the genetic potential for it to express it. Same kind of process happens with the smart males. If there are many brute males in the pride already, the younger males are more likely to become smart males and vice versa.

Similarly, if the alpha of the pride dies the lack of the pheromones in the communal piles of the geists causes the brute males to start growing into potential alphas. They will then compete for dominance, and the favor of the females. In the end, the females choose the alpha. They express it by liking the alpha and thus releasing pheromones to it which in turn further fuels it's growth into a proper alpha.

The alpha breeds with all the females, or in theory he does. In practice, the females mate with other males as well, especially the smart ones for favors and such things. The females are smarter than the brute males, which allow them to manipulate these males and even the alpha to some extent.
The brute males aren't stupid though, and they are aware of the fact that the small males and females are quicker witted than they themselves are. Because of this, getting caught manipulating can end up badly for the females and even worse for the smart males.
>>
>>20003536

The geists are extremely social species. They are in constant multi-sensory communication with each other from the moment they are born. Their constant low sonar "singing" grants the whole pride a communal "vision" of the surroundings of the pride and their communal piles deeply bond the pride members together emotionally and helps them solve their internal disputes.

Because of this extreme sociality, the females especially don't tend to work well alone. Complete isolation is maddening for them. The males can tolerate loneliness better, as during their evolution males often had to work alone as they were exiled from their prides by the alpha. Even though this no longer occurs, the tolerance of loneliness is still in their psyche.

Because of this, the smart males have adapted into an important niche for the pride. They have the smarts and the tolerance of loneliness which allows them to work alone and in duties that require more individualistic tendencies than the females have.
The females hunt, brute males are warriors and the smart males are scouts.
This isn't a clear cut distinction of course, but the baseline of the geist society works that way. The females often work in other fields as well, such as making tools and being warriors, as there are so many of them compared to the males.

Meet the brawler cedya the terrors of the mountain sides.

The brawler cedyas are strong and brutish predatory fungi who move in small packs and ambush their victims, usually during nights and by sneaking up to them from above cliffs.

They emit a cloud of poisonous spores, which paralyze and eventually choke their prey if they are inhaled in large quantities. The brawlers attack suddenly and brutally, using their great strength to quickly kill their prey. In case of a victim that puts up a fight their spore cloud will eventually overwhelm the strongest of foes.

The brawler cedyas bring their kills to their caves, where they either eat them or throw them into piles of bodies in which their "eggs" fester and grow, eventually bursting out as new brawlers.
In the dark of the night, the brawlers occasionally also raid nesting sites of other creatures, and even tribal species. They steal eggs and young individuals and use their "cloud of fear" to keep defenders at bay.

Blungs are actually Bord descendants. I do think there's some Emil involvement with their colonies though. Ask Nad about it.
Puruus however, are descended from Colony Fus, which were a bunch of jellyfish that stuck themselves together and acted like a single bigger jellyfish.

>>
>>20011754
Where are the caves exactly, we know they exist, but not how big they are or where they are located on the continent. I would like the option to include a cave starter, as I was planning on playing a smart Geist tribe that, upon seeing the strange lack of surfaces that they could bounce their echolocation off of, got scared and returned to the comfortable familiarity of the caves. It's basically what I was hoping we'd do with the caves, an entirely separate world... just underneath our feet.
>>
>>20012166
well, the openings were mostly in the base of the mountain and the hills, but there are also some places where there's cave entrances. Basically, a sprinkling everywhere. I imagine some of these are like sinkholes or cenotes.

I prefer the latter, getting the Rift to create a big gash through the South continent. Crack it not like one continuous scar, but more like a few smaller cracks.
How about it? Does it make sense? this South rift could be called the Scars, since the Rift had already happened in the East.

Just did a quick check to wikipedia, and this fits the true definition of a rift zone. Split from a fault. East had a large collapsed cavern system. Also, it might not be bad to keep this, as it would one of the new actual seas on this world. Might actually make some nice starting areas. An equivalent to the Mediterranean or something. Maybe make a peninsula split from the side, instead of completely Bisecting the continent if you wish to change it?

Also, figured out the scale of this continent a short while back, going off of East being the size of South America. About half as wide, and fairly round. Roughly 1500 kilometers across from east shore to west shore, if I measured correctly.
>>
>>20013917
I like it. I like it a lot. I have to ask, 1500 kilometers is still just a number... is there any analogy you could use that would put this whole thing into scale?
>>
>>20014484
From the most eastern point of Australia, Cape Byron in New South Wales, to the most western point of Australia, Steep Point in Western Australia, is a distance of 4100 kilometres.

wiki answers. KM because fuck it. so our continent @ 1500km = 932.057 miles, for americans, texas is 895 miles across at some point. for the purposes of this game, that continent might be a little small, so we may have to upsize it to something a bit bigger.

As for Laser Bords- they are out and about. i placed them in several regions on the google doc unless they got edited out. but they are nocturnal, so expect to find them bordling about from dusk to dawn in areas around caverns.

Posting two new cedyas and slightly altering one existing one.

>>19980477

Firstly, the matter of stilt cedyas.

As the tree sucker cedyas are closer to the idea I originally had for the stilt cedyas I am making the stilt cedyas into more omnivorous, and perhaps even more predatory.

The young stilt cedyas do feed on the trees, but as they grow older and bigger, they begin to supplement their diet with meat. An adult stilt cedya is pretty much the apex predator of the forests in where they live. Their large size and powerful spore cannons allow them to easily bring down any prey they wish. They are solitary creatures that stalk the forests in search of food. Only very few stilt cedyas reach full adulthood.

The tree sucker cedyas are social cedyas that feed on trees and plant matter. They travel in large, slow moving herds that spread countless of spores in their wake that will eventually grow into new tree suckers. These young suckers will band together and join larger herds if they encounter them.

The sprinter cedyas are fast pack predators that use the pedals on their back to stabilize their stride. They kill their prey by delivering accurate blasts from their spore cannon. They reproduce by fertilization like the stilt cedyas. They live in the forests and the plains.

In addition, I am open to suggestions for better names for all these cedyas. I suck at naming things.

Few things I forgot.

That spike thing on the sucker cedya is used for defense as well as for scraping of the bark from trees so the cedya could plant it's feeding tentacles directly on the juicier parts of the trees under the bark. The sucker cedyas communicate with the sounds they generate by the small "fins" on the undersides of their back pedals. The sound resembles some sort of chirping.

The sprinter cedyas communicate by changing the patterns of colors on their pedals. They bud their eggs on their reddish skin that is under the 4 small reproductive tentacles. The flesh there is receptive to genetic material of either other sprinter cedyas or the individual itself. When it is fertilized, a cluster of eggs begins to form on it, which are then torn off by the reproductive tentacles when they are mature enough.
The two 3 fingered tentacles on the sides of the cedya's mouth are used to help eating. They have eater spore glands, which help the cedya to process the food before actually ingesting it.

Also, although the stilt cedyas are solitary, they do communicate with each other to some extent. They have a bladder inside their heads trough which they can blow air which causes a loud "thoooom!" sound.
They use these calls to both indicate their territory and summon other stilt cedyas to themselves during the mating season. The calls can be heard from miles away.

That looks bloody brilliant! The blung fields aren't probably big enough to be seen like that. They are most often about the size of few football fields at most. And they aren't static. The fields usually last up to few decades, or maybe even a century, before the blungs move out again. Though this can entirely depend on the environment the blungs are living in. In the lub forests, the blungs can migrate in intervals of few years as their fields are very fragile.

But other than that minor nitpick, that map is excellent.

Iminye Counting System

Please note that while Stridas may only have two fingers, these fingers are flexible and come with a palm. This facilitated their climbing and tool use abilities.

The Iminye counting system is based highly around the four digits they have. For the longest time their counting was limited to their four fingers, capping them at four. One day a Steward's was lining up the fruit from a bag to count how many of them there were. He counted to four thrice got distracted and had to start over again.

A Shaman in a hazy watched him as the Steward missed counted yet again. The Shaman mimicked his finger counting but could not keep up. Instead the Shaman watched his own hands. Long after the Steward found the right count, the Shaman continued counting his own fingers. Then he did something odd. He held his fist up with no fingers and declared it as naught. He held his first finger and declared it as one. He put down the first finger, held up the second finger, and declared it two.

When the Shaman shoved his hand in the Steward's face, he was shouted off. The Steward wasn't impressed by naming fingers. The Shaman not deterred continued expanding his new counting scheme. He combined the first and second finger and declared it three by addition. Addition Iminye understood as the combination of different collections.

To continue, the Shaman started using his second hand. He held up his third finger and the fist of his first hand and declared it four, which confused the Steward since he had always used his third finger and declared it three. The Shaman taught him how he could use his fist to represent the previous count of three. Adding the third finger forced the count to increase by one to four.

In this way they counted to seven with only three fingers. They dropped the three fingers, held up the fourth finger, and declared it eight. From now on each finger represented a different number, one, two, four, eight. By addition of these separate fingers, the Iminye increased the limit they could count on their fingers to fifthteen.
