Hey, everyone.I returned from a very nice vacation and am a little depressed, so let's have another /tg/-related arts and crafts thread.Ever crafted anything for your PnP, Wargame, or LARP? Had a great idea, but not the skills, or resources to actually create it? Do you have questions about how to make a specific thing?Props, terrain, gaming tables, books, etc, etc. All goes in here.Go ahead and post! Show off your works, share your ideas so that others can benefit from them, ask what you always wanted to know about crafting and above all have fun doing so.I didn't really learn much since my last thread and just reposting the same techniques over and over gets old, but I'll do my best to explain stuff and bump with interesting tutorials.I will of course repeat the things I explained in earlier threads again, if someone asks.
How to make aged labels:- First use the graphics program of your choice to create the design of your labels. If you dont have any artistic bone in you, ask your friends, or just google some nice ideas.- Print out your labels. Make sure the printer you are using creates waterproof prints. If the ink runs out when it gets wet, this is not the technique for you
I've been meaning to make a new deck box out of a Corn Flakes box for a while. I fucked up the first one by cutting the side flaps at half the required size. Maybe I'll get off my ass at some point tonight. Also need to make some tokens and color markers, just so I have less to keep track of. Again, just need to get off my ass and do it.
>>19941903- Cut out the labels in a nice shape. Polygon shapes often look cool.- Now either dye the labels with the tea/coffee technique I explained numerous times (pic related), OR use the following technique which is more of a hassle, but produces nicer results IMO- Instead of submerging the paper in the dye of your choice, just drink the tea / coffee yourself, but keep the used up tea leaves / coffe grounds and pile it on top of your labels. Make sure they are completely covered.
>>19941928The nice thing about base materials like cereal boxes is that you can always just make another one. Also you can make very nice tokens by buying a bulk of deco-stones from your local art supply shop. Draw symbols on them with metallic markers and seal everything with spray-on clear varnish.back to the labels>>19941963- Let the labels rest under the leaves for a few minutes until they are properly soaked. If they turn out not dark enough for your taste, put the batch into the microwave and heat it up for a few seconds. Be careful, the labels can get too dark quickly.
>>19942013- Now you have "aged" labels, but they still look just old, not used. To fix that we'll get some food dye, water it down a little and apply it in various ways. Be adventurous and try out different colors, preferably fitting to whatever the bottle will hold. - Different ways to soil your label: Get a pipette and let a few drops fall on the paper. Experiment with different heights and angles. It looks the most realistic, if you let them fall from the up side of the label. If you do this while the paper is still wet, you will get more spread out stains, while dry paper produces smaller stains with very clear edges.- Get a wooden tooth pick and dip it's tip into your dye. Then tap the paper with it a few times. This will create small stains that look as if something spilled on the löabel at high velocities.- to make "burnmarks" on the inside of your label cut small holes in it and apply black ink to it's edges. Done. It looks as if a hot spark scorched the paper. To make burnmarks on the edges, just carefully burn the label (duh)
>>19942128- now glue the label to the bottle, jar, whatever you want. Use white, or clear paper glue. -If you want, you can either cover the label in clear glue, or apply clear varnish, once it's dry. Might look good on some bottles and bad on others. EXPERIMENT! :D
I'm running a D&D game for two of my pals and my fiancée. Made a few props for them. First is a map found amongst goblin porn.
Map, the second.
You ever find out what that scroll case was going to cost in materials? If not, I'm on VACATION!, so I can look into it tomorrow.
Also made them a SPOOKY SPIDER BRACELET. Can't say too much about it on here, but they recognise it as being devoted to Lolth. And that it has an effect on the map.
Create a magical crystal for your LARP, or as a moodlight for your PnP sessions:- Go online and look for RGB-LEDs. You can get a pack of 50 for only five bucks. To make things easier get the ones that change color automatically. - Get lots of clear PVC. Old CD cases are perfect for this.- Cut the PVC into fitting shards like in the picture. Make sure they all have an even bottom edge- Glue the pieces together into a big crystal. Use special plastic glue, or super glue. Make sure to only apply the glue on a narrow band on the bottom. If you cover the whole shards in glue, it will not only take a shitload of glue, but also potentially ruin the effect.
>>19942227I honestly didnt look into it yet, because I was busy with other projects. I'll do so once I am open again :3>>19942270- get a nice wooden box to hold the electronics. (you will need the LEDs, a battery case for two AA batteries, a little switch and of course wire)- Cut a hole in the top of the box to fit the crystals in. Attach them securely to the wood while leaving room inside of it.- Open the box and line the bottom of your crystal with the LEDs. Make sure that they shine directly upwards into the crystal. I used a thick, sturdy that I carefully hot glued the LEDs on.- Solder wires to the LEDs. You will have to attach them in parallel to the battery, NOT in row.
>>19942382Hey, no rush. You're the professional. Just spoke to a company that sells high-end backgammon goods. They're not willing to tell me a damn thing about construction. ~_~;
>>19942382*thick sturdy wire*- combine one half of the wires and solder them to your battery. (The long contact of the LEDs goes to the positive and the short to the negative)- combine the second half of the wires and connect them to the switch, and the switch to the other end of your battery.- decorate the box to your liking and VOILA.Since every LED has a slightly different pattern, your crystal will pulse in all the colors of the rainbow.
>>19941867...I need that!
Incoming: How to bind a book1/6
>>19942556I will sell them again on my etsy, once I came up with a proper material cost calculation and subsequently a fair price. You can send me a mail, if you want to reserve the next I make>>199425592/6
>>19942128>Now you have "aged" labels, but they still look just old, not usedfor most things if you want to make it look like it's used you can always just pull it throw a dirty area which have pebbles. Or just stomp it a little in said area. Although this is has the danger of damaging your stuff and I admit it's best for cloths and such things, but still...
>>199425973/6
Here's me. Costume all handbuilt for Gen Con 2011. Laspistol is based off a heavily cut-up Nerf Maverick, and everything else is from scratch.
closer of the pistol
>>19942616That's a neat idea when you are not too concerned about how exactly it will turn out :3The stuff I explained is good to make very specific marks, fitting to the bottle.>>199425974/6
could have shown the scabard I made... but I dont got any pics so meh
>>199426645/6
>>19942664well yeah and as I said it's work best for cloths and such, as a matter of fact I read it first in a how-to that explained how to make home made a ghillie suit
>>19942659You need to weather the olive drab sections. It looks like factory-new mods on an old pistol. Pitting, scarring, dirt, fading, patina the fuck out of it.Still pretty baller.
>>199426866/6>>19942676Then explain us how you made it :3>>19942659>>19942626Good work! What is the top of the staff made of?
>>19942664I thought you weren't supposed to glue the spine, but attach the first and last booklets in the book to the covers? That way, when you open the book, the pages can open in a fan formation.
>>19942704Yeah, I can imagine it works wonders on fabric. This is actually my main complaint about most LARP costumes. They look too saturated and tidy.
>>19942801They didn't glue the back to the cover, but a bookmark to the spine of the book. And then a canvas on top of it.
>>19942770ok.I sew cloth unto some foam for the insides, thenI wrapped the foam into the right shape and sewed it shut. then I sewed leather around it.Then faux fur was sewn to the...er...entry... so it looks all cool like....I'm not good at this
>>19942814because most larp costumes you can see are out of the shop made by machines and most people care about them and don't want to "ruin" it.But hand made stuff look less "perfect" than machine made. Also if it's not period accurate fabric (or at least something close to that) you use then it will never look right...
- Get three bowls and fill them with water- Pour sugar into the first bowl until no more will dissolve - Pour half that amount into the second bowl.- Put different food dyes into the three bowls.- CAREFULLY pour the content of the bowls into the bottle, most sugar first, medium second, no sugar last.- Also works with alcohol, instead of sugar, if you need a potion with more of a punch ;3The solutions WILL mix, if moved too much, so be careful.
>>19943015This looks cool - how long does it last for?
>>19943030technically, forever if you don't move it much.depends on how many layers you use could it be more than three but the less the difference in the solutions sugar percentage the higher the chance it will mix if you are not carefull
>>19943030Depends on how much you move it.Run around with it and it'll last five seconds.Just put it on a shelf and never touch it again and it lasts months. They are really good to put on the table and only touch them prior to consumption. If you want to add flavours to it, make sure to add them in EXACTLY the same amounts to each solution.
Propnomicon has some cool stuff. A couple of tutorials too.
How well does home made paper made from natural wood go through a printer?I haven't been able to make my own to test.
>>19942626That's a nice standard.
Just posting some random inspiration
Esh-Esh is one of the reasons I come back to /tg/.She's like our super awesome mom.
>>19943203she's not a dude?
>>19943142I guess it depends on the size of the used fibres and how well it's pressed. If you did a good job, I'd just try running it through an Inkjet printer. They eat a lot of stuff you put in and you can always easily fix them if something goes wrong
>>19943217Shhhh... I'm playing pretend.
I always wanted to have a food themed gaming night....>>19943203d'aaaaw that made me smile>>19943217nope
>>19943247Is that Catan with pizza?
also about ideas.I had an idea that buy this old soviet MiG pressure suit and make a STALKER costume out of it. And while the suit is fairly cheap I'm still a poorfag... so it's just one of those ideas that I will never put into practice
>>19943247Im just so used of thinking of everyone on 4chan as male...
>>19943283About 15% of /tg/ is female IIRC
>>19943256It totally is!
>>19943305Delicious
If you ever play in a zombie LARP and want to be zombie-Lincoln
and here is an interesting bit of an armor by Luca De Rubeis. The really interesting part that it's made out of leather not metal
>>19943361Oh wow, that's amazing.I love how they stained and cut the leather.
>>19943356and for the zombie part
>>19943369he has whole armor sets like that
I wish I could hang out with Esh-Esh and Hungarian LARPfag for a week.
More of the food themed gaming night:True fa/tg/uys dont need bowls!
>>19943407can you provide me with a link to more stuff from that person?>>19943414Depending on where you live, you actually could...
>>19943439You live in Germany I thought?I'm all the way in the states.
>>19943414there will be a three day larp in Hungary at october 19-21 where I already invited Esh-Esh so if you are into larping there is a chance.
>>19943439I got the pics from his facebook account:http://www.facebook.com/luca.derubeis
>>19943385>how to make yourself look burned>step 4, don't burn yourselfwhat
Yall should come to sweden sometime. They got the best larps...language might be a problem though
Esh-Esh, what's your etsy? Also, does anyone have a tutorial for making high quality paper from raw wood?
>>19943466yeah I didn't really understand that part too...It's like when someone want's to make fake axe wounds and but they don't want to get hit by a shovel and later lie that it was an axe...Also different technique we used in 2011 for scars and such: tissue/toilet paper, paint and glue
>>19943470only if I got enough money... but language is not a real problem. I mean one can always play a foreign mercenary or something
>>19943470>>19943545Doesn't everyone in Sweden speak English?
>>19943549ssh... don't ruin the fun, foreign mercenaries are always fun
a nice way to make custom beads and trinkets for your costumes. Complete with ORIGINAL DO NOT STEAL certificate of quality.>>19943447Yeah, I do live in germany, but I JUST came back from a two month stay in the US. And it wont be the last one :3
>>19943549yeah. Just a wee bit odd coming over to the swedes and use my crappy norwegian-swedish and then chat with a "foreigner" and use my awesomesauce (ego) english...Foreign mercenaries are always fun though
>>19943579Oh well you probably won't be hanging out in my state cause you will probably be killed and then raped. If you're lucky it will be in that order.
>>19943512The last time I posted a link, I got a one day ban... My shop name is RawringPlushies>>19943464Thank you very much
>>19943591Where the hell do you live? D:
Here's some game-time foodstuffs. Haven't tried this one yet, but I imagine it's pretty tasty.
>>19943683And one that I have tried, after my players opted to follow an elf into his den of infinite kitchenworks.
<-- Polymere clay and LEDs >>19943683I made my girlfriend a cake like that for her birthday.I just layered the colors like a rainbow
this was made by one of the larpers I know, and actually fairly cheap to make one.you need a 4-5mm thick piece of copper, then polish it and after that draw the symbols with an alcohol marker (or whatever the name is the marker pens with alcohol) because you can easily erase any errors with a little alcohol. Then you will need a plastic tray or something like that and the acid they use for making a printed circuit board. Then you put the medal in the tray then you add the acid, wait for 5 minutes after that you can wash it under water, erase the marker and you have an amulet. The chain was originally for a toilet
>>19943724totally gonna try that.
wanna get me sum o these
>>19943633Detroit
More inspiration
>>19943724Did you ever get around to using those /x/ symbols for any of your bottles?
>>19943512>Also, does anyone have a tutorial for making high quality paper from raw wood?as a note, most high quality paper is'nt wood fibres, its cotton rags, and some wood fibre.cotton from something like a good quality bedsheet (check its 100% cotton, not synthetics) will make a much better paper..
>>19943439Found the dudes deviantart.http://hamrabdg.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d56jpj6
>>19943770yes, I engreaved the four vials and also drawn a few in my alchemist notebook. Most likely I will use them in the future too
>>19943837Have some sexy sexy Sigmar.
>>19943780Interesting. Thanks for the note. Also, does anyone have any info on making cotton or wool string? You'd think it would be easy to find, but it's not.I'm intending to make a book or two from scratch. Would be great to have a leatherbound tome for a game rulebook.
a nice idea for a dice rolling tray.I'd recommend a better paint job though...
>>19943933That shit is creative
I'd make props for my Rogue Trader group (only game I GM) but it'd involve cigars, fake mustaches, and teddy bears/bibles full of space cocaine. The group is now working for a GrimDark Colombian Cartel Head and are now involved in a smuggling job that started with Space Cocaine and turned out to involve six nuclear warheads..
>>19943992>teddy bears/bibles full of space cocaineI met people like that
>>19943999OH MY GOD. WHY AREN'T THESE IN MY LIFE?!
>>19944041Because you're being a lazy shit and not cooking them right now
>>19944041Because there is no Esh, or Esh-like person in your life to lovingly make them for you on gaming nights
>>19944075Esh-Esh is my waifu.I wish I could find a girl like her. I wish I just find a girl actually.
>>19943999Those look disgusting. If your first reaction to those is "omg i NEED that", well, you're probably the kind of person who thinks a Big Macs are the shit
Well this isn't anything astonishing to show off, but the only thing I recently did (as in this evening).Still have to do one more such banner. Then my preparations for this year's Drachenfest shall be complete.
>>19942626Were you with the group running around calling people heretics? Loved the costumes, but you all annoyed the fuck out of everyone.
>>19943999And eaten.
>>19944096meh, too much trouble.
>>19944075I'm doing something wrong. Noone ever want to drink from my potions...
>>19944097>Implying there's something better than Big Mac sauce.
>>19944125I know.Last time I was going to go out with a girl she cheated on me 30 minutes before our first day.Feels batman.
>>19944128looks like a poop I once took...only with less red
>>19944128Maybe because it looks suspiciously like paint
>>19944097Well, you dont eat them all by themselves like some sort of uncultured barbarian. You make one turtle for 3-4 persons, along with some nice broccoli, a heartily pepper sauce and some baked potatoes. Bonus points for potatoes in bunny shape.
>>19944100Ahh German Larpfag. Believe it or not I was actually waiting for you to show up. Do you have an email address where I can contact you?
>>19944100Good work. When and where is Drachenfest? I might go there to sell stuff....
>>19944150nonsense, it's way more liquid than average paint and it's smell way more disgusting
>>19944160Don't do it, it's a trap! He's luring you into a war, just like Poland did!
>>19944160fire away
>>19944070Well, to be fair, it is 3am here.>>19944075....Ah-I-I have to go....
>>19944142I can guarantee you that you NEVER pooped something this bad
>>19944182When I made potions for halloween, I just used juices and sodas + food dyes. I also put cut up gummi bear pieces into litschi juice Delicious AND nasty!Everyone liked them :3
>>19943999>>19944075Do want. Now I'm hungry and lonely. Thanks esh.
>>19944174Will be next week (official beginning is tuesday/wednesday but I'll be there this saturday to help set up our camp) in Diemelstadt near Kassel.Might be a bit expensive on short notice though. You can find all info here:http://www.drachenfest.info/index.php
>>19944212Is that fog made by pieces of dry ice?
>>19944097> you like that, ergo you must like shit.Yup. Does seem pretty self opinionated in here.I just think all home made food is the shit and like trying things out. Especially if they look interesting.
>>19944189that was me btw...forgot my name
>>19944237I'll drink to that.
>>19944237Awww, don't be sad Mega. I maybe can make some for you on my next vacation>>19944241Damn, that's too short of a notice... I still have lots of shit to do -_-Oh well, maybe another time
>>19944244yep we used it for a few thingsAnd actually my potions are willfully really bad, because hey, even if it's a healing potion at least have some drawbacks. Also I'm proud that this year I caused a pepper spray effect with one of my potions
speaking of food:I used to cook food for one of my gaming groups and I'd always try to cook what the PCs ordered in the tavern that day.Got interesting when they made a bit more exotic characters and places. Rice boiled in chicken broth makes good insect eggs and squid cut into thin ribbons good worms
>>19944252I've sent the mail
>>19944341Why are there no girls like you in the States? Now I need to find something to eat too.
>>19944341You sound like a brilliant person to game with.
>>19944274Well that's understandable. On the bright side this is an annual con so maybe we shall see you next year.
>>19944341about food, here is something that I made last year in a larp
>>19944350Eventually I'll move to the US, so there's that...>>19944358I made these once and they are delicious. I just cut the sausage a bit too thick and the noodles were still a bit too chewy inside of them
reminds of a minor event last larp I was at.we got dinner, a kinda soup or something that I did not enjoy too much so I was still a bit hungry. So I went to the tavern folk and asked if I could borrow a potato. we needed it for a game/contest.I was, after the larp, asked what the hell kinda game it was"T'was called Eatpotato""...""I won."
>>19944379you can always say that's how octopus bits should taste like
and now I really have to get some sleep, lastly here is a pic about our blacksmith and his wife, cloths made by them.Esh-Esh, keep up the good work
>>19944485yeah, I have to go soon, too...Will try my best
Ok, Ni ni, everyone. It was a really nice evening with you guys <3
