Hey, everyone.

I returned from a very nice vacation and am a little depressed, so let's have another /tg/-related arts and crafts thread.

Ever crafted anything for your PnP, Wargame, or LARP? Had a great idea, but not the skills, or resources to actually create it? Do you have questions about how to make a specific thing?

Props, terrain, gaming tables, books, etc, etc. All goes in here.

Go ahead and post! Show off your works, share your ideas so that others can benefit from them, ask what you always wanted to know about crafting and above all have fun doing so.

I didn't really learn much since my last thread and just reposting the same techniques over and over gets old, but I'll do my best to explain stuff and bump with interesting tutorials.

I will of course repeat the things I explained in earlier threads again, if someone asks.

How to make aged labels:

- First use the graphics program of your choice to create the design of your labels. If you dont have any artistic bone in you, ask your friends, or just google some nice ideas.
- Print out your labels. Make sure the printer you are using creates waterproof prints. If the ink runs out when it gets wet, this is not the technique for you
>>
I've been meaning to make a new deck box out of a Corn Flakes box for a while. I fucked up the first one by cutting the side flaps at half the required size. Maybe I'll get off my ass at some point tonight.

Also need to make some tokens and color markers, just so I have less to keep track of. Again, just need to get off my ass and do it.

- Cut out the labels in a nice shape. Polygon shapes often look cool.
- Now either dye the labels with the tea/coffee technique I explained numerous times (pic related), OR use the following technique which is more of a hassle, but produces nicer results IMO
- Instead of submerging the paper in the dye of your choice, just drink the tea / coffee yourself, but keep the used up tea leaves / coffe grounds and pile it on top of your labels. Make sure they are completely covered.

The nice thing about base materials like cereal boxes is that you can always just make another one.
Also you can make very nice tokens by buying a bulk of deco-stones from your local art supply shop. Draw symbols on them with metallic markers and seal everything with spray-on clear varnish.

back to the labels
>>19941963
- Let the labels rest under the leaves for a few minutes until they are properly soaked. If they turn out not dark enough for your taste, put the batch into the microwave and heat it up for a few seconds. Be careful, the labels can get too dark quickly.
>>
>>19942013
- Now you have "aged" labels, but they still look just old, not used. To fix that we'll get some food dye, water it down a little and apply it in various ways. Be adventurous and try out different colors, preferably fitting to whatever the bottle will hold.
- Different ways to soil your label: Get a pipette and let a few drops fall on the paper. Experiment with different heights and angles. It looks the most realistic, if you let them fall from the up side of the label. If you do this while the paper is still wet, you will get more spread out stains, while dry paper produces smaller stains with very clear edges.
- Get a wooden tooth pick and dip it's tip into your dye. Then tap the paper with it a few times. This will create small stains that look as if something spilled on the löabel at high velocities.
- to make "burnmarks" on the inside of your label cut small holes in it and apply black ink to it's edges. Done. It looks as if a hot spark scorched the paper. To make burnmarks on the edges, just carefully burn the label (duh)
>>
>>19942128
- now glue the label to the bottle, jar, whatever you want. Use white, or clear paper glue.
-If you want, you can either cover the label in clear glue, or apply clear varnish, once it's dry. Might look good on some bottles and bad on others. EXPERIMENT! :D

Create a magical crystal for your LARP, or as a moodlight for your PnP sessions:

- Go online and look for RGB-LEDs. You can get a pack of 50 for only five bucks. To make things easier get the ones that change color automatically.
- Get lots of clear PVC. Old CD cases are perfect for this.
- Cut the PVC into fitting shards like in the picture. Make sure they all have an even bottom edge
- Glue the pieces together into a big crystal. Use special plastic glue, or super glue. Make sure to only apply the glue on a narrow band on the bottom. If you cover the whole shards in glue, it will not only take a shitload of glue, but also potentially ruin the effect.
>>
>>19942227
I honestly didnt look into it yet, because I was busy with other projects. I'll do so once I am open again :3

>>19942270
- get a nice wooden box to hold the electronics. (you will need the LEDs, a battery case for two AA batteries, a little switch and of course wire)
- Cut a hole in the top of the box to fit the crystals in. Attach them securely to the wood while leaving room inside of it.
- Open the box and line the bottom of your crystal with the LEDs. Make sure that they shine directly upwards into the crystal. I used a thick, sturdy that I carefully hot glued the LEDs on.
- Solder wires to the LEDs. You will have to attach them in parallel to the battery, NOT in row.
>>
>>19942382

Hey, no rush. You're the professional. Just spoke to a company that sells high-end backgammon goods. They're not willing to tell me a damn thing about construction. ~_~;
>>
>>19942382
*thick sturdy wire*

- combine one half of the wires and solder them to your battery. (The long contact of the LEDs goes to the positive and the short to the negative)
- combine the second half of the wires and connect them to the switch, and the switch to the other end of your battery.
- decorate the box to your liking and VOILA.

Since every LED has a slightly different pattern, your crystal will pulse in all the colors of the rainbow.

for most things if you want to make it look like it's used you can always just pull it throw a dirty area which have pebbles. Or just stomp it a little in said area. Although this is has the danger of damaging your stuff and I admit it's best for cloths and such things, but still...

This is actually my main complaint about most LARP costumes. They look too saturated and tidy.

I sew cloth unto some foam for the insides, then
I wrapped the foam into the right shape and sewed it shut. then I sewed leather around it.
Then faux fur was sewn to the...er...entry... so it looks all cool like.
...
I'm not good at this
>>
>>19942814
because most larp costumes you can see are out of the shop made by machines and most people care about them and don't want to "ruin" it.

But hand made stuff look less "perfect" than machine made.

Also if it's not period accurate fabric (or at least something close to that) you use then it will never look right...

- Get three bowls and fill them with water
- Pour sugar into the first bowl until no more will dissolve
- Pour half that amount into the second bowl.
- Put different food dyes into the three bowls.
- CAREFULLY pour the content of the bowls into the bottle, most sugar first, medium second, no sugar last.
- Also works with alcohol, instead of sugar, if you need a potion with more of a punch ;3

The solutions WILL mix, if moved too much, so be careful.

technically, forever if you don't move it much.
depends on how many layers you use could it be more than three but the less the difference in the solutions sugar percentage the higher the chance it will mix if you are not carefull
>>
>>19943030
Depends on how much you move it.

Run around with it and it'll last five seconds.
Just put it on a shelf and never touch it again and it lasts months.
They are really good to put on the table and only touch them prior to consumption.

If you want to add flavours to it, make sure to add them in EXACTLY the same amounts to each solution.

this was made by one of the larpers I know, and actually fairly cheap to make one.
you need a 4-5mm thick piece of copper, then polish it and after that draw the symbols with an alcohol marker (or whatever the name is the marker pens with alcohol) because you can easily erase any errors with a little alcohol.
Then you will need a plastic tray or something like that and the acid they use for making a printed circuit board.
Then you put the medal in the tray then you add the acid, wait for 5 minutes after that you can wash it under water, erase the marker and you have an amulet.
The chain was originally for a toilet

Well this isn't anything astonishing to show off, but the only thing I recently did (as in this evening).
Still have to do one more such banner. Then my preparations for this year's Drachenfest shall be complete.

Were you with the group running around calling people heretics? Loved the costumes, but you all annoyed the fuck out of everyone.

I know.

Last time I was going to go out with a girl she cheated on me 30 minutes before our first day.

Feels batman.
>>
>>19944128
looks like a poop I once took...only with less red
>>
>>19944128
Maybe because it looks suspiciously like paint
>>
>>19944097
Well, you dont eat them all by themselves like some sort of uncultured barbarian.
You make one turtle for 3-4 persons, along with some nice broccoli, a heartily pepper sauce and some baked potatoes. Bonus points for potatoes in bunny shape.

When I made potions for halloween, I just used juices and sodas + food dyes.

I also put cut up gummi bear pieces into litschi juice
Delicious AND nasty!

Everyone liked them :3

Will be next week (official beginning is tuesday/wednesday but I'll be there this saturday to help set up our camp) in Diemelstadt near Kassel.
Might be a bit expensive on short notice though.
You can find all info here:

Is that fog made by pieces of dry ice?
>>
>>19944097
> you like that, ergo you must like shit.
Yup. Does seem pretty self opinionated in here.

I just think all home made food is the shit and like trying things out. Especially if they look interesting.
>>
>>19944189
that was me btw...forgot my name
>>
>>19944237
I'll drink to that.

>>19944241

yep we used it for a few things

And actually my potions are willfully really bad, because hey, even if it's a healing potion at least have some drawbacks.

Also I'm proud that this year I caused a pepper spray effect with one of my potions
>>
speaking of food:

I used to cook food for one of my gaming groups and I'd always try to cook what the PCs ordered in the tavern that day.

Got interesting when they made a bit more exotic characters and places.
Rice boiled in chicken broth makes good insect eggs and squid cut into thin ribbons good worms

I've sent the mail

Now I need to find something to eat too.
>>

>>
>>19944274
Well that's understandable.
On the bright side this is an annual con so maybe we shall see you next year.

about food, here is something that I made last year in a larp
>>
>>19944350
Eventually I'll move to the US, so there's that...

>>19944358
I made these once and they are delicious. I just cut the sausage a bit too thick and the noodles were still a bit too chewy inside of them
>>
reminds of a minor event last larp I was at.
we got dinner, a kinda soup or something that I did not enjoy too much so I was still a bit hungry.
So I went to the tavern folk and asked if I could borrow a potato. we needed it for a game/contest.
I was, after the larp, asked what the hell kinda game it was
"T'was called Eatpotato"
"..."
"I won."
