Oh look at me, I'm a dwarf and I love to live underground and not wash myself. I apparently didn't invent a razor to shave myself either but because I'm alcoholic and racist I'm somehow awesome.
I don't watch MLP, but from what I understand the unicorns have magical powers and the pegasi can fly and the earth ponies are basically just ponies.Seems like a raw deal to me.
yup. choke on it.
>>19993752They seem to possess superior strength and stamina.
>>19993752>>19993762So... My Little Pony is really nazi propaganda? The unicorns are the ubermench?
>>19993762That still seems like a kind of a raw deal. What are the population dynamics like? What kind of professions do you find each group working?
>>19993762The perfect slave race...
>>19993783No, Alicorns are the master race - they're winged unicorns with the most powerful magic around. Two of three know Alicorns in the setting are literal gods of the pony kind while the third one used to be a baby sitter.
>>19993807Holy shit, I wouldn't let my kids watch this.
death to the nazis
>>19993790You can ask >>>/mlp/but then, they probably don't care.Pegesi manipulate the weather because they can fly.Earth Ponies do heavy lifting and physical labor.Unicorns fill everything else in, making clothes and minutia objects.
>>19993790In the "medieval" times of the setting Earth Ponies were the peasantry that offered the other races the food they've grown in exchange for their services. The Pegasi were a militaristic nation of clouds that controlled the weather in exchange for what the other two did for them. Finally Unicorns were the aristocracy that raised and lowered the sun with their magical powers so the others two would do stuff for them.In "modern" timesPegasi live mostly in the clouds and are still about controlling the weather, free of charge now. The Earth Ponies populate mostly the country site and still are great farmers and workes. Unicorns are now found everywhere on the land, but a lot of them live in big cities as the snobs.
>>19993752I don't watch MLP, but from what I understand the earth ponies have earth magic, it's just based more on ritual than willpower.WHY DO I KNOW THIS
>>19993849So earth ponies are an abused underclass.>>19993861Ha ha, holy fuck. And the earth ponies are the most numerous?Sounds like it's time for some fucking worker's revolution.
>>19993863They don't. So relax, you know nothing.
>>19993867Good luck operating your rainbow painted AK-47 with no fingers.
i'll just leave this here
>>19993882First time I've been proud to be mistaken.
>>19993898Do they have AK-47s in MLP land?
>>19993790In the capital city, where most of the wealth is, its mostly all unicorns and every nobility i remember (except the alicorns) have been unicorn. The pegasus live in a cloud city which only they can walk on.One episode even had a story of the past where each of the three do something to help each other. The pegasus bring good weather, the unicorns protect from dark powers and the earth ponys uh, farmed and had to give the others food. Also the Alicorns who supposedly raise the sun and the moon.It seems very similar to the medieval theory wherein you have the nobility, clergy and peasantry, each protecting the other.Nobility protects the others from physical harmClergy protects the others from spiritual harmPeasantry protect the others from strarvation
>>19993950I am enraged by the social theory on display here. Fuck indoctrinating your kids with this shit.
>>19993950It's almost more like a caste system. In a typical feudal system, the nobles do the fighting.
>>19993925but now you know the truth.>that's_how_innocence_is_lost.jpg
This is the kind of stuff i wish /mlp/ talked about. But instead they are busy circlejerking and fapping, instead of discussing and expanding their world. It's a real shame.polite sage for nocontributive post.
So... since we derailed the thread so much anyway: how about a game of Revolution ? Down with the Unicorns !
>>19994004I'm afraid it's just not gonna work. They have the Pegasi on their side. A popular uprising could only take the form of going on strike and starving them into concessions.
It's possible this has never come up because it is a kid's show and I think all the ponies are female anyway? But like can the castes interbreed?
>>19994032You could fortify the earth pony enclaves with the year's crop.If there's ranged weapons or whatever though you can fight pegasi. It's the unicorns who seem undefeatable.
>>19993990I have some world building ideas about what life may be in the Zebra nation, griffon kingdom, and other parts of the world we don't see.Would anyone like if I dumped and we world built?
>>19994042Male ponies exist, they just aren't narratively important. The only important male character is a dragon, and all dragons in MLP are homosexual.
>>19994042Yes, in one episode ms cake and mr cake (both earthies) have twins, one a unicorn, one a pegasus, mr cake claims it worked "because you see my great great great etc grandfather was a unicorn and my wifes great great grand blah blah was a pegasus... that makes sense right? *worried look*"Though that joke probably went over a lot of kids heads
>>19994066I don't really want to know any more about this show than I have to, unless it's about mocking the horrible social injustices in it.
>>19994042There are male ponies, the show just doesn't focus on them as much. As to your question, there is insufficient data in evidence. The only mare we know the lineage of is the sparkling one, and both her parents are corny.
>>19994068>>19994079So is there freedom of choice of husband/wife or whatever? I mean can any earth pony marry any unicorn and have kids. Or are you expected/pressured to marry within your caste.
since we derailed pretty hard here, what would happen if the nations that formerly made up Yugoslavia were dropped next to equestria?
>>19994102It seems like there isn't much in the way of social pressure one way or the other. More than anything the same-caste pairings are a result of regional population concentrations.
>>19994125That in and of itself seems to be a condition of the lack of social mobility though.
>>19994055Pegasi don't have to fight directly. All their homes are in the sky and if hey want to fuck you up they can throw a tornado at you or cause continuous rain to flood you out.
>>19994087There's a race of Gollum-like jewel-hunting dogs that are forced to live underground. Also, the ponies apparently live within walking distance of the Gates of Tartarus.
>>19994106The most beautiful thing to ever happen to this earth.Genocide.
>>19994106I'd have a new show to watch.
>>19994134Just wait. There'll be a unicorn exodus to the suburbs once the earth ponies start moving into the urban areas.
>>19994144Can the unicorns defeat the pegasi?
>>19994146>There's a race of Gollum-like jewel-hunting dogs that are forced to live underground.Holy fuck. Are any of these disadvantages groups openly unhappy about their situation?
>>19994171A race of emotional vampire shapeshifters tried to take over the capital because they were starving.
>>19994182What kind of animals were they?
>>19994182"Changelings," that look like evil ponies with holes in them in their base form.
>>19994188Think ponies that have been through Jeff Goldblum's teleporter with a fly.
>>19994197So they're ponies that look slightly different but have been subjected to the propaganda of 'The Other'.
>>19994171Well the diamond dogs aren't really part of pony society- they exist on the presumed border of Equesteria, near the Everfree Forest where the weather occurs without pegasi help, magical monsters abound, and animals pretty much take care of themselves. That's another big thing in MLP- every part of the ecosystem is artificially controlled. The seasons are rotated manually, birds are guided through migration patterns by pegasi, etc.The diamond dogs are more bandits then anything else. They capture a pony and force her to work in their diamond mine until she manages to win her freedom (By whining).
>>19994055that's all fine and dandy untill the Godess whose regular task has been rising the Sun for the last thousand years, comes knocking at your door accompanied by the settings versions of loyal Horus and Malcador.
Earth ponies are sub-equine. Their race is objectively inferior to the others. The unicorns are quite clearly the superior race of the three.Twilight Sparkle can do in seconds what it takes the Apple Family days/weeks to do. Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns is for unicorns. It's not Gifted Ponies. Unicorns.I really hate talking with some people about this, because they think "Earth ponies are even because they make the food and are stronger" is a valid response. Slaves make food and are stronger because of it, too. However, slaves are not equal. Unlike real life, though, the superiority of races is actual, physical, objective fact. If a certain human race had superpowers, and no one else did, they would be superior. Unicorns can do anything.Really, despite what the showrunners and some bronies may say, the world of MLP:FiM is one of inherent racism and racial superiority. It's like Avatar and Benders vs Non-Benders. Deus Ex with Augs and non-Augs. There are those that are better, and they are the unicorns.
>>19994207No they're pretty fuck off evil. They literally feed on love.
Pony shapeshiftersThis is their queen
>>19994171The Diamond dogs actually enjoy their shit, since they can mine for all the gems they want. Apparently they aren't above kidnapping Unicorns to find them gems, though.
>>19994208>That's another big thing in MLP- every part of the ecosystem is artificially controlled. The seasons are rotated manually, birds are guided through migration patterns by pegasi, etc.Yeah that's kind of what I'm getting at. Like if all the castes and groups are happy in their role that indicates well, mind control or extremely efficient fascism maybe but *more likely* an engineered state.Like these things all exist as engineered creations to deliver resources or maintain the planet for the creator species or whatever. Or maybe just as an experiment/art.
>>19994188Kind of like undead pony-insect hybrid.>>19994146I don't recall them being forced to live there being mentioned anywhere. They're more like dogs with mole living habits that love their jewels and live in their mines.
Theocratic caste systems would be even worse if god were real.
>>19994231MLP seems to demonstrate that pretty well.
If you really want to get into 'Slave races' on MLP, consider the cows, sheep, and other animals who are shown being able to talk and think freely, but are stilled pretty much used as chattel.Or the Donkeys, who are something like the jews. Crossbreeding is looked down upon. (Rainbowdash says "Be cool, or be a mule!") Plus they don't even get cutie marks!
>>19994217look more like deer than pony
>>19994208Not only do the ponies have to change seasons by hand, they actually have PRECIPITATION set to manual. You know how Equestria gets regular rainfall that keeps plants, and by extension everyone else, alive?Pegasi create TORNADOES that suck out water from lakes and deposit it in their cloud cities in the sky, from where they then distribute it across the land as needed.
>>19994250>>19994227Shit how do we know they aren't actually just deer but we only see them through the propaganda lens of racist, classist pony society.
>>19994222I honestly think that the reason their world is environmentally broken is because of Discord. He was probably the root reason behind why ponies had to take over every natural function, even the solar movements. Also, I'm pretty sure as the only other immortal being, he's probably got some other history with the Sisters cosmic.
holy shit /tg/ you are awesome
>>19994272I have no idea who that is. Like I said, I've never watched this.
>>19994106Nothing would change. Yugoslavia's balkanized states would be too busy killing each other to notice
>>19994231Worse, a god that's both real and fallible. How many times does she fail to stop problems before they happen or screw the Elements into doing work she could easily take care of in order to teach them lessons?
>>19994272For those who dont know, discord is voiced by the guy who did Q from star trek and the personality is roughly the same. Also Celestia turned him in to a stone statute for 1000 years. When he got out, the show made it clear he was conscious the entire time.
>>19994249Indeed, especially the sheep. In one episode the sheep all get packed into a corral, and one of the sheep complains that the Earth Ponies (who are all cowboy-themed) could be nicer about it, and the Earth Ponies all laugh at the sheep without responding and slam the gate in its face.
>>19994315>>19994306This shit sounds monstrous.
>>19994272>Sisters cosmicCelestia and Luna are Galactus now?
>>19994284God of chaos. Someone compared him to Q from Star Trek, although I've never actually seen that so I can't tell if it's valid or not. Basically, he is all powerful. Like literally, his magic fucks up both of the goddesses, and they can't do anything to him because he's too busy turning clouds into cotton candy and the ground into ice. Also, he literally mindrapes most of the main cast into a complete opposite of their elements of harmony (Fluttershy becomes a BITCH, Applejack lies, Rarity has her gem HER GEM AND NOBODY ELSE'S, etc etc). Also, without said elements of harmony, nothing can stand up to him. At all.
>>19994284Basically think Q from Star Trek, (voiced by the same guy, no less) except an amoral god of chaos.
>>19994272Possibly- in the world building projects, a lot of people theorize that before the Alicorns ruled equesteria, there was another sort of god-king like figure that created the world and fractured it into it's current state. Other races like the Zebra and Griffons in this scenario either have aliocrn analogues to raise the sun and moon for them or depend directly on Princess Luna and Celestia.>>19994284That's Discord- he's the elemental embodiment of Chaos, and one of the Big Bad Evil Guys of the setting. Normally he's trapped in stone, but when he's out and about he throws all the laws of physics into, well, chaos. Chocolate milk explodes, up is down, black is white, etc. He's also voiced by Q!
>>19994306Not only is Discord voiced by Q and has Q's personality, he also activates his powers in the exact same way as Q (snapping his fingers to make shit happen) and it has the exact same flash of light that Q had in Star Trek.He is Q in every way except that he's also a bizarre draconic chimera.
>>19994272The Ponies already controlled the sun and the moon before him. Or rather... well, it gets confusing. Discord supposedly ruled Equestria since it's beginnings and kept it in state of total chaos making all the ponies unhappy until Celestia and Luna defeated him and took to their roles as gods and guardians of the celestial movement. Simple right ?But then came the episode that was a play about the "medieval" ages. In it the Unicorns already controlled the movement of sun and the moon by themselves and by the end of the play the three races united to THEN form Equestria. So either the ponies created Equestria in Discord's lands but weren't discovered by him for some time or the play is well, fiction.
>>19994322She even did the same to her younger sister Luna, banished to the moon for 1000 years for attempted uprising (because Luna was jelous everyone went to sleep during "her" part of the day).Though generally it was said she had no other choice, though to be conspiratorial, she is the only witness considering nbody else from those days is alive
>>19994362Or the mythology surrounding Discord is fiction and he was just imprisoned because he was a potential threat to the regime.
>>19994284Basically Q
>>19994358I think he's supposed to be a Questing Beast
>>19994214They're stronger, more durable, and have a gift for technology.A better way of looking at it would be thus:Earth Ponies = DwarvesUnicorns = Elves (without the eliteism)Pegasai = HawkmenAlicorns = Demigods. They have all the features of the above - strength, size, endurance, gift with technology, the ability to fly, and godlike magic, at max levels compared to the others. There's no real imbalance because Earth Ponies have machines and ingenuity, Pegasai can shoot lighting at people, and Unicorns can do magic. But the pegasai and Unicorns have less strength and endurance than the Earth Ponies.
>>19994377Given both his immortality and ability to dangerously alter the physics of the world, combined with his psychopathic nature towards his subjects, it seems like he probably had it coming.
>>19994362I wouldn't give too much historical weight to an elementary school theatre production of a national founding myth.
Hey so is Weaver allowed back here, right? Now that he's working on other things besides mlp-related?
>>19994387Wait, is that a The Magicians reference?
ITT
>>19994393This sounds like the kind of thing Earth Ponies get taught in schools.
>>19994214However, given all the inequalities between the different sub-races of ponies there are surpisingly little social tensions in the pony society. Everyone seems to be happy with their lot in life and doesn't even think about violating the esteblished rules for personal gain. I attribute this solely and alone to Celestia's wise rule and guidance. That's how you benevolent autocrat.
>>19994419>not knowing the origin of the Questing BeastThe fuck, Anon.
>>19994393The whole revolution was just a coup by the Alicorns to keep the three races firmly under their iron shod hoof. They're like the Occuria from FFXII.
A huge rift to the Shadowfell opens and adds a fortified city of nightmare (intelligent carnivorous fire horse, MM1 p.196) ponies to the setting. Assume a military force and elemental power equivalent to the pegasi.Would you play in this campaign?
>>19994423Well, the lack of unhappiness is why I think the environment sounds like an engineered society. Like these organisms and groups are built for purpose.
>>19994362It could be that Discord's reign in the show was just him letting loose his pen-up creativity? If Zeus was imprisoned for four thousand years, you can bet your ass there would be twenty times more lightning strikes for a couple years.Basically, what the Sisters did was BOTTLE ENTROPY, removing him removed all the randomness out of weather, evolution, ect. Just as if you lock Zeus in Tartarus (which also exists in MLP bizarrely enough), thunderstorms and the like stop. If you turn Discord to stone, well... he has a much broader sphere of influence.>>19993752
>>19994432What system?
>>19994421Only if you actually think Elves and Hawkmen are better than Dwarves. You're on /tg/. Consider your answer very fucking carefully.
>>19994376Then, while Luna was away being banished, somehow "Luna will EAT YOU WITH HER ALICORN FANGS" became a national holiday that's the local equivalent to Haloween, the idea being that everyone dresses up as things that are not ponies so that you won't be eaten, and you collect lots of candy which you then give to the monstrous statue of Luna AKA Nightmare Moon, to appease her infinite hunger for pony flesh. Then after 1000 years when Luna gets back, she is not happy about this.
>>19994421Well, the example given earlier for the power of Unicorns being able to do a family of Earth Ponies' work was Twilight, who is a RIDICULOUSLY overpowered Unicorn, not a standard one.If you consider a Unicorn like Rarity to be the baseline, it looks a lot more even. Rarity can just about handle some light telekinesis and can magically detect gems. Beyond that she's got nothing.
>>19994423The thing that really scares me about that society is the whole notion of the "cutie mark," which all but eliminates free will.I mean, it's bad enough that there's social pressure attached to receiving one. No one is considered mature unless they've already found their career. On top of that, we never see anyone rebel from that talent. Does that mean there are ponies that are destined to be garbagemen, never to rise above that low station? Is it even an option, or are marks like resumes, and you can't get certain jobs unless they sync up?
>MLP thread on /tg/>D&D monster thread on Ponychan's /show/
>>19994442You threatening social pressure is just another demonstration of the racist set up of the society.
>>19994454Yes, I too thought that was odd.
>>19994454I think that started as something more akin to training in case Nightmare Moon ever broke free from her prison in the moon- a lot of the games seem fairly martial in nature, like the pumpkin catapaults.Over 1,000 years, though, people sort of forgot about the origins as Nightmare Moon herself faded into myth
>>19994433It's so overengineered that the Everfree Forest, which is called that because there PLANTS GROW BY THEMSELVES AND ANIMALS SURVIVE WITHOUT PONY INTERVENTION, is considered basically Hell on Earth and the scariest place imaginable. And then Twilight just basically casually drops Tartarus into the conversation as "that place where we keep the ancient evils locked up."
>>19994467This has come up on /tg/ before.
>>19994488Ha ha, what.
>>19994467Depends. A cutie mark =/= career. It lists a talent, yes, but this doesn't mean that that's their job. For instance, Pinkie's cutie mark is about parties, and she works in a cake shop. She isn't a party planner, but she does work so she can party.
>>19994467Pause for a moment and try to realize that human beings suffer the exact same pigeonholing, we just don't get a convenient label to tell us what we're good at... and so many people never actually figure that out.
>>19994462Given that Twi is implied to basically be an intended replacement due to Celestia's grooming her for one of the two major allicons if something happens... yeah. She's basically a lvl 20 wizard running around among lvl 1s
>>19994477No one even knew Nightmare Moon WAS Luna until the Elements blasted her and freed her. Some have theorized that Celestia came up with the holiday to get Luna's name out of history and to create a separate persona. Time passed and Luna's fate was lost to history until the beginning of FIM.
>>19994467That's about what brings them true joy. I would say it's a kind of directional Eudimonia - as Aristotle said, true joy comes from fulfilling work. The Cutie mark is an indication of the work that you find most fulling and joyful. Characters can and do do things that have nothing to do with them, but they inevitably find the most joy in doing what their cutie mark indicates. That's why you can't give one to someone with magic. It's a matter of personal decision, not an imposition by outside will.
>>19994462Unless there is a song playing. Then suddenly VORTEX OF SCISSORS!
>>19994467Sometimes you can get lucky and your cutie mark merely describes some personality quirk of yours. For an example, a quill cutie mark doesn't necessarily imply that you can only be a writer, it can be symbolic - you could just be a very meticulous person. Rarity has three diamonds, but she doesn't run a jewellery - they just symbolize that she likes precious things.
>>19994467That's probably why Mules and Donkey's are looked down upon.Even Zecora (A zebra) has a cutie mark...though it could be tribal scarification too.
>>19994515This, pretty much.In real life, "Talent" and "Interest" coincide so often that they're basically the same thing. Talent is what you're interested in, and thus practice at. Beyond pure physical ability (Can't be a great guitarist with cerebral palsy, etc.) your ability to accomplish a task and succeed in a career basically depends on how much fun you find the activity, and thus how much time you devote to practicing it.
>>19994300Actually, a good judge of the powerlevel of Celestia would be how many unicorns it had actually took to raise the sun and the moon.Even a low level wizard is pretty god like.>>19994526I think it is a ritual tattoo. There are still lots of groups in Africa that do that.
>>19994467It is implied that it IS influenced by free will. Or at least it picks something you already know.Though besides the CMC, no one actually cares that much.
>>19994520I recall seeing a comic a while ago that decided since Rarity's got that unicorn dexterity and a passion for exactness, she would make a terrifyingly dangerous archer.I think it was called "Threading the Needle" or something like that.
>>19994525Some get screwed, though.Trixie, for example, has it rough as hell. What good is stage magic in a land where people use and see REAL magic every freaking day?
>>19994488Granted the said forest is filled with hydras, cockatrices and water dragons with magnificent mustaches.
>>19994549Maybe she's a talented illusionist.
>>19994543>PictureHow the heck did I not notice that before? That is stupidly obvious. Dang.I bet it's intentional too. Curse you, Faust.
>>19994549She's actually quite talented, and does have skill as a showman. Her fault is that she's a massive braggart with serious ego issues who bases her own self-value off of outdoing everyone around her. If anyone around her is better than she is, then she feels utterly worthless.Which is why Twilight so utterly crushed her when she got rid of the Ursa Minor.
>>19994547Yeah, she shot one arrow at a tree, and then a second arrow whose iron tip she used to carve the shaft of the third into the shape of a rose blossom.>>19994549That's why Trixie tours the hickville circuit. She doesn't do Manehattan, she stays where there are mostly only unsophisticated Earth-ponies.
>>19994567Doesn't seem to be. Her talents seemed to be little more than telekinesis and color alteration.
>>19994567so pretty much not every unicorn have the same kind of magic. That's why Twilight could do something against the Ursa minor when Trixie couldn't do anything, right?
>>19994547The guy made a whole series.http://www.terrariaonline.com/attachments/29896-archery-artist-exploding_guy-comic-rarity-scrunchy-scrunchy_face-png.10158/>>19994549She's an entertainer. There's a difference between working with a welder to make cars all day and seeing the art and sculptures someone makes with the same welding tool.>>19994572Mayor being named Mayor.Ponyville = Townsville. Originally it was going to be something else, like Trottingham.THere were a few more, but I forgot.
>>19994462Rarity probably has greater control over her telekinesis than the average unicorn. However, that doesn't necessarily give earth ponies an advantage over her, since she has been known to kick manticores in the FACE, showed no hesitation before ripping a scale off of a sea serpent with her TEETH, and even smiles while punching a changeling. She's vicious, man. Don't fuck with Rarara.
>>19994593Twilight is basically That Guy. She's a horrible minmaxer and a munchkin, a magic user whose specialization, the thing she's extra good at, is ALL MAGIC.
>>19994474Not surprising. Seems like more than half of /show/ is ex, current, or honorary fa/tg/uys
>>19994572the more you know
>>19994606And on top of that, she's got the only dragon familiar in the whole society, who can also privately text their God at a moment's notice.
>>19994593There are plenty of ponies with duplicate CMs, though.
>>19994606But she's taken Charisma as her dump stat. In a game/setting that emphasizes teamwork and working with others. Sure, there's occasional combat, but the DM is deliberately aiming for talking your way out.>>19994629CM's are generic. Cherilee says this. It's a bit more like your star sign in the Elder Scrolls. It points to talents/personalities in a general way. Like having a lego box for a particular model. In the end, it's up to you.>>19994626But he's a bit nerfed. Spike has his own issues, and Celestia seems to spend quite a bit of time eating cake.
>>19994626That doesn't even bring up her owl familiar and that even the dragon has a phoenix hatchling for a pet.I find myself wandering how awful Spike's life is going to be. He'll outlive everyone he knows (minus the goddesses) by centuries, and he's going to be totally out of place amongst dragons, so mating is probably unlikely. There's also the question of just why the Unicorn School HAD dragon eggs, anyways...
>>19994629The 10th Doctor has been named Time Turner on a trading card. His official description is "the pony responsible for keeping Ponyville's clocks in sync, setting the hourglass for cider competitions, and pretty much all things timey-wimey."TIMEY. WIMEY.
>>19994657Of course. She's engineered her own perfect little society that sustains itself largely without the need for intervention from her. This is what semi-divine immortals do when they get bored. They grow civilizations like bonsai trees.
>>19994591Keep in mind her cutie mark. Stage magic is usually all about illusions and deception; making people forget what they already know. And a cutie mark is an indicator of a pony's special talent. It's something they're REALLY good at.She still could never take on an Ursa Minor, but I'm willing to bet her magic has a few applications beyond just card tricks.
>>19994499Pinkie, at least occasionally, takes work as a party planner. She seems to handle plenty of birthdays as well as welcome parties for new residents of Ponyville. She was also commissioned to plan the reception at a royal wedding. She lives with the Cakes who own Sugarcube Corner, so it's likely she works there because it's a convenient way to pay her rent between party gigs.
>>19994657So... Cheerilee's job is just to get ponies through primary school, and there is a trade school for every Mark? How would you explain family Cutie Marks then? Shining Armor having elements of Twilight's CM on his, (which could easily be "Magic Shield") the Apples all having Apples, Dash having a completely unique mark, ect?
Twilight - OP WizardRarity - charismatic RogueApplejack - Ranger (with APPLES)Fluttershy - Druid of course Pinkie Pie - Bardiest Bard in existence Rainbow Dash - gotta go fast Monk
Celestia - DM
So what would happen if the Alicorns went evil ? Total annihilation ?
>>19994685Interestingly enough, she is, from everything we can see, a TERRIBLE baker. Applejack is evidently the best pastry maker in the entire country.
>>19994701Family resemblance. Like you said, Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor have similar looking cutie marks, but entirely different talents. The apple family... They just like apples. No matter what Applebloom's talent is, there's going to be an apple on it. (Possibly a paintbrush drawing an apple? Idk who cares)
>>19994715Season 3
>>19994715Luna would have starved the world when she went all Nightmare Moon, so if both went crazy, then yeah, everyone would die.
>>19994685Let's hope Pinkie never discovers alcohol then.
>>19994729The unicorns also have the power to move the sun and moon, enough of them could surely overpower the alicorns if they had to.
>>19994660The egg was just a test for initiation. Twilight had to magically force it to hatch to be admitted into the school.Unless they keep eggs around for some other reason and just decided to use it to test Twilight in particular, it's probably just the standard test.
>>19994715>WENT evilImplying they aren't all evil to varying degrees of sophistication.
>>19994712Rainbow makes a decent Pally, and AJ a fine Fighter.
Discord is DMing, though
Is...is this a pony discussion? On /tg/? With no flaming, sageing, trolling or anything of that sort?>mfw pic related
>>19994748So the STANDARD test involves the ponies stealing eggs from other sentient species? It's hard to imagine dragon mothers freely donating their brood, especially when they've been shown to be possessive hoarding creatures.
>>19994760Dash's dump stat is Charisma. There's no way she'd be able to pull off Paladin.
>>19994715Stopped by the Elements of Harmony. Which are OP as shit.
>>19994763Look at the shitheaded teenage dragons that Spike dealt with that one time. Do you honestly think parents played a big role in that?
>>19994746They've never mentioned anyone but Celestia being able to move the sun. It seems like something that's simply beyond Unicorn capability. If unicorns COULD do it, then that knowledge was suppressed by Celestia in order to maintain her dictatorship.
>>19994776Oh, but she's a dashing rogue !
>>19994785In the play they stated that unicorns did it as a group work
>>19994146>Within walking distance of TartarusSounds about right for a kid's show.
>>19994778even more now since Shining Armor and Cadence are the 7th element, love.
>>19994776Excellent point. Considering that she is actually the most loyal to King and Country, as well as being quick to fight, perhaps a caviler or knight?>>19994761This thread isn't against the rules. This is a Dwarf thread. Pictures and discussions of ponies is allowed.
>>19994760the only problem is rainbow is chaotic neutral, true neutral at best. If somepony is paladin, it must be AJ.
>>19994763Dragon eggs generally take a long time to hatch. The test is probably how much magic you can force into it, and the teachers observe the result.Think of it like the lung test pictures here. For Twilight, it would be like she exploded the machine, the nurse, and the whole clinic.>>19994785Hearth's Warming Eve. The UnicornS do it. Might take a team of them, but having Celestia do it opens them up to do other, beneficial stuff.
>>19994781Teenagers are shitheaded in EVERY society. They clearly had to have been raised, rather than surviving alone. They're like Klingons; they value aggression and strength over intelligence. I still don't see them being the types to freely give their unborn to ponies.
>>19994761You're right. This is remarkable enough to archive.
>>19994680Maybe she got it wrong. Maybe she wasn't supposed to be a wizard, but a *warlock*, and the star will turn into a pentagram.I swear I don't even like MLP or its fandom, but if it gets story arcs... I may give in.
>>19994761It's quite obviously an anomaly. Sit back and wait for some poor, unsuspecting stalker to wander in and record the reaction.
>>19993815There was a letter composed by linguists telling Hasbro Studios everything that was wrong with MLP and why they should stop marketing it to kids. There were linguists from all over the world signing this thing. It was never finished though, because being linguists they couldn't agree on the proper grammar or some shit and eventually everyone went back to their actual work.Trufax.
>>19994785It was in Hearth's Warming Eve. The sun and moon were originally controlled by unicorns.
>>19994785>her dictatorship.except, it's an enlightened autocracy, the ponies are actually better of being ruled by Celestia.
>>19994761Actually I think OP wanted to make a thread about the Dwarven master race, but he failed to respect the rule about never posting a picture more interesting than the subject.
>>19994217I love how the dude on the left there looks like he's about to shit a brick.
>>19994808Then a Monk would be no better!
>>19994781I don't think we can really take the teenage dragons into account.Lauren Faust's male teenage characters are ALL the same. Hoops and Dumb Bell were the same personalities as these dragons. The Rowdy Ruff Boys from PPG were like this.Lauren Faust hates teenage boys. In this part of world building, I think it's necessary to throw out canon.
>>19994794I thought we discounted the historical accuracy of the play earlier in this thread. If that was true, then you'd think Celestia would have trained backups for the job instead of doing both the Sun AND Moon BY HERSELF for a thousand years. At the very least, she should have had someone ready in the event she became incapacitated.
>>19994843He's currently under her brainwashing. Under normal circumstances he's not all that sharp to begin with though.
>>19994820>story arcsFat chance. Hasbro would never go for that and Lauren Faust, arguably the biggest advocate for adventure-style episodes doesn't even work on the show anymore.Would be damn interesting to see, though.
>>19994785Actually, Equestria is a textbook model of the society laid out in Plato's Republic.
>>19994820We've basically forced some characters back into the show, so we might just get that.>>19994843He's being mind controlled by the black and hole horsie. She was impersonating his bride to be so she could lower the defensive magic bubble he had put on his capital city and take over that, then move to the imprisoned bride's Crystal Kingdom and take over that.
>>19994488Yeah, the ponies are control freaks. And weirdly powerful for something that is supposedly a little girls cartoon. And the eighties ponies tended to have enemies that either became their friends or became dead.
>This thread with MLP/pony/etc in filtersPretty hilarious.Sage on principal.
>>19994820There generally aren't story arcs, just minor callbacks to previous episodes, as well as two-parters.The only real story-arc was the pilot episode in Season 1, where Twilight discovers that after 1000 years of imprisonment, Nightmare Moon is coming (THE STARS WILL AID HER ESCAPE) to cover the land in an eternal night. They purge the darkness out of her and thus save Luna, Celestia's sister, and this then leads to an episode where Luna has to deal with the fact that while she is no longer a psychotic villain bent on covering the land in darkness, everyone is still fucking terrified of her. There are literally altars to her where people give sweets on Nightmare Night in a gesture of "devour these, not me."Then there are several episodes where people talk about how they can't wait for the Gala, and then there's an actual Gala.
>>19994839Sure, if you define 'Better off' as being permanently rendered into helpless adult children.
>>19994817http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/19992163/
>>19994876Generation 1 is just another Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. The entire Monster Manual was thrown at them. Sometimes, it felt like Gygax himself was writing the script.>>19994876I think they can only control a small area though. The Zebra shaman mentions that the rest of the world has natural weather and the ponies freak. And the Wild West town seems to operate naturally as well.
>>19994908To be fair to them, they're all but running the world's environment manually. If there wasn't strong central leadership, then the world would definitely go to hell quickly.
>>19994895The season 3 premier looks like it'll finally give us more backstory on Cadence, too.
>>19994908Suddenly, the appeal of a children's show to grown dudes on the internet makes absolute perfect sense.Fascinatin'. You've done cracked this case wide open.
>>19994908they live relatively painless lives, with possibility to pursue your passions almost unlimited to each individual pony. The world is stable and they have very little in terms of actual enemies. They're not utopia, but quite close.
>>19994908I don't htink you quite get it. By having Celestia handle the sun and the moon, the ponies went about and made civilization advance. It's like getting mad at people today because not everyone knows how to operate a power plant.
>>19994952You probably like the Culture novels too.
>>19994921Ah yes, the Wild West town. That was particularly hilarious. Ponies come and colonize the land ruled by the Native American Buffalo (who have warpaint on their faces and everything), and the Buffalo are naturally upset that pony settlers are stealing their land.So the Buffalo demand that the colony of Appleloosa be torn down, and the settlers naturally don't want to.So there's a battle, and then Pinkie Pie delivers the message: YOU GOTTA SHAAAAARE.Yeah, fuck you injuns, don't be so greedy - quit hogging all the land to yourselves.
>>19994362>>19994262>>19994222>>19993725I love the running subtext of ponies being control freaks.Their leader's fought an entity of chaos, the opposite of control. The ponies,as stated, control every aspect of their world down to weather, seasons, day and night and are extremely terrified of things not under their control (the reason they are so afraid of the ever free forest is that "plants grow on their own and animals take care of themselves").but my fave part is their mental breakdowns. They get their mark when they find their special talent, but as soon as said talent is questioned (ie, it's suggested that they're not in control of their selves) they go FUCKING PSYCHO, Twilight alone went insane 3 times when her management, scientific and efficiency skills were put in question, if her magic ability is ever put in question there will be no survivors. But she is not the only one! suggest pinkie's parties are bad? PSYCHO, an animal refuses to be on fluttershy's care? PSYCHO, at least Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Applejack only got sorta really depresed when they got theirs.
Bit late to the discussion, but I think Earth Ponies aren't just superior in the physical department, but have their own inherent form of magic, like how the Pegasi can move the weather.Their magic deals with all things ground. They can grow things to a supernatural degree. Crops all year around, in any soil. Gems seem to be a common as muck, naturally replenishing resource in Equestria, so it's possible that they grow those as well.Which WOULD explain rock farms.
>>19994807I know. It's just that I've seen a simple pony picture derail a thread instantly, and most pony related threads get saged, trolled etc like mad. This was simply a surprise.>>19994830Are you spying on me? Because I just got done with a session of Call of Pripyat.
>>19994712Rainbow Dash is a barbarian, there is an episode where she rips apart a barn with her teeth and hooves.
>>19994967>and then Pinkie Pie delivers the message: YOU GOTTA SHAAAAAREAnd then they tell her to go fuck herself and have a battle anyway.
>>19994965No, the writing style is shit. But if you honestly tell me you prefer the unholy mess our world is (technology aside, magic can substitute for much of it) to the one depicted in the MLP, then you must be one evil person.because it's literally the most important bits of the universal declaration of human rights made physical.
>>19994973Yeah, they are the race of humans of dwarves. What they lack naturally, they can build. One of them builds a helicopter, and another practices with her tail so much she can fly using a hula hoop.Besides, it seems that Unicorns, while having magic, also get a dose of the crazy. Some personality tick that makes them loopy real easily.
>>19994967The nice touch was how the two parties actually involved in the situation were trying to resolve things peaceably, while their advocates started yelling and agitating for a fight. And of course, since it's a kid's show, there's a mutually beneficial compromise.
>>19994973So if babby Pegasi get mad flying skills and RETARD STRENGTH and Unicorn babbies get hax powers of doom, does that mean that rasing a Earth Pony babby is like >pic?
>>19994895I know, I saw the pilot and thought it was decent, but was disappointed by how quickly that plot was wrapped up.Right now the lack of a recurring villain is what keeps me from watching more. It's not a bad show, but it's not for me, and I'm afraid I might become one of *those* fans if it was.
>>19994503or a DMPC runnin around a bunch of PCs.
>>19995034Motherfucker, did you just diss Iain M. Banks's writing style?
>>19995046There never is a recurring villain, other than the threat of pony psychosis.Seriously, sometimes it feels half the episodes are themed around "this pony goes crazy".
>>19995050I read Consider Phlebas. It took two weeks to get through that book due to physical pain of the shitty characters and writing style hewn out of solid oakwood.
>>19995034I think there's a happy medium in between perpetual peace and love, la di dah, friendship and mutual cooperation, and a world where Somalia and North Korea exist. I'd prefer to live in that hypothetical world than either one of the extremes.
>>19995082Consider Phlebas is pretty much the worst book in the canon, but it's still better than most of what passes for SF.What are your specific problems with Banks' style?
>>19995096But you still haven't explained why it's a bad world. Well, the minor chaos incursion aside. Unlike false utopias like Brave New World, it's actually a world where you're offered a choice. The cutie mark is entirely up to you to find, it's not forced unto you. You could become the porniest pony if you wished. Even the celestial rulers tend not to bother you too much, being busy with galas and shit.
>>19995044Possibly?I can imagine pranks with 'magic' beans.
Good lord, I didn't mean to derail this gem of a thread with that fucking Culture comment. Please stop this argument now.
>>19995096The problem is that Equestria IS a utopia in the literal sense of the word. It is impossible. They are ruled by an infinitely wise, benevolent, mother-figure god with thousands of years of patience, unquestionable authority, and is incorruptible. That is humanly impossible. Ponies are the exact same dickbags that Humanity is, if you pay attention, but they are kept in check by Celestia being ridiculous.
>>19995132It IS forced on you. It magically appears on your ass, regardless of if you decide on it or not. You find something you have a talent for, and it shows up of it's own accord.
>>19995155Yes, but it doesn't bid you to actually take it as profession. You could have a talent for solving every crisis ever, and still choose to work in pony porn.
>>19995151The ponies are not quite as assholish as humans can be.But there is definitively ponies with a mean streak you would not expect to see in multicolored pastel equinoids.
>>19995155Not quite. You find something that YOU WANT to, and do, have a talent for. Not just any talent will do. Applebloom is apparently really good at making Zap-Apple Jam. Does that mean that she got Rainbow Dash and Applejack having sex on her ass? NOPE.
>>19995136don't worry anon, the culture-discussion keeps the thread bumped, thus indirectly furthering the friendship and magic agenda of this thread.
>>19995151It's actually Celestia's ridiculousness which I object to. I want my leaders as fallible as me.
>>19995151>implyingthat is like saying that the candy kingdom is pure and magical ruled by a benevolent ruler. with guards running around all the time i don't think it can be too much of a utopia
>>19995151Celestia isn't infinitely wise. She was fooled by the Changelings, when even Twilight could see through the smokescreen. She's also put ponies in danger for her own agenda (like sending a bunch of unexperienced kids to clear out a dragon when she could do it herself, or send some of those guards). Also, why is it that there are no police anywhere, while the immortal god-queens get a full armored detail?
>>19995178i think the idea is your talent finds the way to sneak into what you choose to do in some way.Like rarity's career of choices is dress making, yet she keeps adding gems to them. Because her talent is gem finding.
>>19995078What part of "I know" don't you understand?I've put an unhealthy amount of thought into why I can't watch this show, I don't need you to tell me.
>>19995209Fans make flaws for her all the time. She sure made mistakes back in the day, but she actually learned from them.>>19995201While they haven't shown any double-murder-suicide rapists, they also haven't shown any of the selfless goodness in humanity. They must have a whole lot shorter and steeper "bell curve" of assholeness.
>>19995021>I know. It's just that I've seen a simple pony picture derail a thread instantly, and most pony related threads get saged, trolled etc like mad. This was simply a surprise. The internet is getting less stupid. It's kind of frightening.
>>19995229did you see when she visited ponyville? lowly ponies are already deathly afraid of her, no need to police when everyone is scared shitless of your authority.
Wow this thread has convinced me that ponies are fucking evil. Also where are you guys when I casually browse /mlp/ or ponychan? Those are filled with autists, retards, perverts, and losers. Why are you having such a win conversation here when I never see any interesting conversations on it anywhere else? Fuck, I wish we could talk about this on /co/. I've been bottling it all in. Fucking /mlp/ and their plush dolls.
Speaking of ponies and PnP, I remember a few fa/tg/uys from MLPG cooked up a D10 MLP/DND hybrid.I can try to find the link if anyone wants to give it a look
>>19995279MLPG.
>>19995273Nah, they are just not on /tg/ right now.
>>19995278If not police, at the very least an animal-control squad. You'd think with all the giant crap like Ursa Minors/Majors, they'd have some people in the town to help ward those things off. What would they had done about the Cerebrus if Twilight wasn't there?
>>19995096>I think there's a happy medium in between perpetual peace and love, la di dah, friendship and mutual cooperation, and a world where Somalia and North Korea exist. Well i sure as heck would prefer living in a peace&love world (inb4 escapism). It's like saying "well the paradise is way too happy place, i prefer something more "real world"-like".
>>19995279Every single community is shit. So nowhere.
>>19995291>MLPGenjoy your autism sandwich and circle jerking to whatever name fags happen to be in their hugbox
>>19995279Elsewhere, not willing to talk about MLP because of how fucking retarded the fanbase is and because of the typical 40kid reaction that happens whenever a pony is so much as mentioned anywhere at all.Polite sage.
>>19995279I do not watch this show. I think the community is hideous. I don't understand why adult males would want to watch this, although I respect their right to.So I will never be anywhere where there is any kind of pony-specific community whatsoever.
>>19995201Flim and Flam were pretty clearly assholes.Diamond Tiara DEFINITELY is.
>>19995279/mlp/ and ponychan EXIST to funnel those autistic retards away to their own walled off communities so the rest of us can discuss this shit intelligently.
>>19995285Do itThat sounds interesting.
>>19995044>jumanji,jpgMy jimmies were rustled
>>19995279>filled with autists, retards, perverts, and losers. That's why. I don't want to deal with that shit. Also the constant stream of porn hurts my soul.
>>19995314They actually discuss the show, which is more than can be said for most horse communities.also they came up with >>19995285 IIRC
>>19995279Ponychan's /show/ is alright during the actual season. Right now it is almost dead, and everyone is derping around because they have already discussed everything in this thread three times over.I have heard good things about MLPG on /mlp/, but I really have no clue. I would take that with a grain of salt.
>>19995324Never!Diamon Tiare is a paragon of kindness.
>>19995279Because /mlp/ was made to house the autists and retards who couldn't restrict their faggotry to one thread. They are the reason it has its own board and the reason its not generally welcome on other boards.
>>19995303fluttershy is supposed to be the goto animal control pony.ironically, regarding twilight, they would prolly have called her from wherever she was to deal with it, since the main 6 charactyers are basically the problem solving squad after the events of ep 1-2.
>>19995279Elsewhere.Sadly, pony fans like us are a minority. A very, very small minority. Most fans don't have any interest in world building or in depth examination like we do.Also, speaking as a player, the system mentioned in >>19995285 is actually really fucking fun.
>>19995325It's like New York. They export all their assholes, so that it's not a wall to wall shit show. The problem being that all of the rest of us have the impression of N'yorkers as cuntbags of epic proportions, because us outsiders never see anything else. And that's why the MLP community is viewed as nothing but autist sexual deviants.
>>19995352They're the old /co/ community, though only a shadow of what they were, now they're infected by /v/ traits.
>>19995304Well... yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.Living in pony world, the culture, or even the Federation would be insipid and pointless. When everything is perfect, you have no goals, no aspirations. What exactly is the point of living in a world where your aspiration is to be the world's best party planner, where your civilization is going nowhere and does nothing?
>>19995346they also gave seth and purple tinker their start. so one decent thing doesn't mean they are good when they keep pumping out poison.
>>19995352MLPG varies between a terrible terrible bunch of fetishists and assholes and a genuinely interesting, genuinely creative bunch of individuals. There really is no way to predict when it'll be one or the other, sadly.

>>19995391That was ages ago, before the ponychan split. The faggotry has mostly fucked off to there and other places.
>>19995374No, everyone in New York is an asshole as well.
>>19995315Sadly I know that this is the true answer. Shit sucks, I miss the early days when there wasn't a 'community'.Can't even paint a crescent moon banner on my dark blue Marines without some mouth breather screaming about their pony waifu.
>>19995381Which is actually pointed out at one point.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CehQ_M8QsqM
>>19995213there are monsters, Dragons and shit like that around so they need guards.
>>19995412>Bear Lore: Said to be the ultimate power. Renders target helpless even on a failure. Kills target on a 8+. Kills the user on a critical failure. Casts the user into the pit of unbearable torment for all eternity if he ever attempts to share the secrets of bear lore with non-bears.Oh goodness, my sides
>>19995151What sort of ridiculousness do you mean? Celestia is never shown to be capable of anything other ponies can't do with enough effort. She fails to defeat Nightmare Moon, requiring Twilight and her friends to wield a power she can't access without her then-evil sister, fails to re-imprison Discord, and fails to defend her whole capital from the Changeling Queen. If other ponies seem afraid of her it's more about what they think she can do over what she's actually capable of. The common perception of Celestia is "Immortal God-like Wizard-Queen" while her actual application is more like "Big Gaudy Light Switch".
>>19995352>Ponychan's /show/ is alright during the actual season. Right now it is almost dead, and everyone is derping around because they have already discussed everything in this thread three times over./show/ right now is just people hanging out and posting reaction images to other people's reaction images. When the season starts, it'll be back to bitching about every little detail that people didn't like about each new episode, which, TECHNICALLY, is actually discussing the show.
>>19995381What is the point of living anywhere else? Are you saying that life is only worth living if you don't have time for introspection (which might lead you figuring out that life is pointless) because your every waking moment is consumed by the struggle to survive?
mlp is for faggots
FINALLY I CAN POST THIS SHIT.
>>19995483
>>19995381Sounds like sour grapes to me. If you could honestly live in a world where you simply didn't need to struggle to survive every day, you wouldn't be saying this sort of thing. You'd be running off to live in the Land of Milk and Honey, and all these objections would melt away.
>>19995381Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is an abhorrent concept to you? You're fucked up. I guess you'd feel more fulfilled if you were living in the dark ages? Or the stone age, perhaps?

>>19995661Season 2 Episode 9: Sweet and Elite
>>19995672I hated that goddam episode. I typically get a big bang out of the show, but I just couldn't stand all the phonies of Canterlot. Ugh.
>>19995511As I said, I think there's a happy medium between flawed modernity and insipid utopia. My ideal world is one in which no one has to suffer, but people still do anyway. I want a world where it's possible to -fail- because success is still a thing.
>>19995708And are you are implying it is impossible to fail in Equestria? Or do I have another Anon to smack for that piece of horseshit?
>>19995708Equestria is this. The prime example being: Trixie is an ass => her livelihood gets destroyed. Also, there are a few episodes that suggest that the Apple Family is on the verge of bankruptcy if they don't work at maximum efficiency all the time.
>>19995704It's nice that they make an effort to show shallow asshole ponies in the happy land. The fashion scene for ponies and for actual humans seems to be pretty identical.
You know what the funniest thing is?The Earth ponies LOVE being exploited. We quite clearly see that, even though the unicorns can do many MANY times the physical labor an earth pony can, the earth ponies won't let them.Because "Hurr doing things the "old fashioned way" is clearly better than the effective way! No I don't care that one unicorn could pick all these apples in 5 minutes! I'm gonna spend the next 2 month kicking the trees to get the apples down"The perfect slaves
>>19995398eh, one could easily replace mlprpg with "4chan".
>>19995736Seriously, the farm is ALWAYS near bankrupcy. the Apple family must all be on drugs given how they rake money over the cider and apple jam and shit.
>>19995640
It's the Wind fish
>>19995751
>>19995760The cider episode kinda demonstrates that they're not very good at the business side of things. That, and they probably keep their prices too low.
>>19995412Well, it isn't terrible. At least it seems to be a full system and not just a few disjointed pages of random character info like most pony/D&D conversions
>>19995736Speaking of the Apple Family.Big Macintosh must be a fucking beast.I mean, Applejack tries to harvest the entire orchard by herself and only gets a quarter done before ending up sleep deprived. So that means that Big Mac covers the other three halves of the Orchard.Fucking. Beast
>>19995785Did you somehow miss the part where Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash also helped?
>>19995785Dude dragged a two-story house for over ten to twenty feet without any signs of exertion. Hell, he did it by bouncing.Big Mac is a fucking Adonis.
>>19995751>unicorn experiments with chemistry and electricity lead to machines that work without magic>Earthies rendered completely useless and ostracized to border towns in the middle of bumfuck nowhereI'd fight progress too.
>>19995785>halves>threeWell, obviously YOUR special talent isn't with numbers.
>>19995708Sour.Fucking.Grapes.
>>19995785He's probably been doing it himself ever since their parents died/disappeared.That might explain why the farm is always in such a tenuous position. They probably have years of debt from when Mac was the only one running the place and kept it going barebones.>19995809They only helped that one year. What about the years prior? Especially when AJ was gone to Manehattan?
>>19995809Well yeah but that wasn't something that normally happens I think he was implying.Usually it's just he Apple family harvesting the apples all on their own.
>>19995785He put his points into strength.ALL his points.
>>19995846>fancy mathematics
>>19995846He's got a little charisma.
>>19995759i wouldn't mind them if they didn't have their superiority complex.they are worst than /co/
>>19995846He's at least aware of the existence of mathematics, I'll give him 1 point in int.
>>19995846And Endurance. Not too smart, not too socially adept, but strong as all get out and can work the entire day away.
>>19995846His Charisma must be really bad if he can only speak two words.
>>19995846He has more int than AJ.
>>19995818I live in a modern first world nation, the closest thing to utopia that the human race has ever created. I love the health and prosperity brought by all that wealth and modern technology. But I don't like that I'm basically irrelevant. Nor that even though I don't do anything, there aren't really any negative consequences, largely because even if I did do something there wouldn't be any positive consequences either.
>>19995825Granny Smith was younger, or alternatively they were falling into debt with hired help and sent AJ away so she could have a future since she's the only one in the family with an INT above 8
Why do white people listen to hip-hop?
>>19995867Dude, those are his cousins.
>>19995872He can talk fine. "Strong and silent" type, so forth...
>>19995873You say that like it's impressive
>>19995892Incest is wincest, or so they say.
>>19995873Possibly, I think AJ has a lot of points in deception then since she can convince everyone that she's a savvy business pony when she's clearly fucking terrible at managing money.
Am I the only one that thinks its weird that they seem to be batshit afraid of dragons, even though celestia appearently wants her apprentices to have one each? The freaking ceremony to join the academy is to hatch a dragon with your magic.Thats the entrance prequisite, give life to something, and then you get to keep the dragon. The rules for dragons in their world are weird as hell though.Spike, the only recurring dragon of the show, was shown to mature at an incredible rate if his greed grew, and he got more stuff for his hoard. However, the growth got reversed when he lost his greed. So, do dragons even age without greed? In another episode, where he tried to find out what it means to be a dragon, it was answered with *yes* as there are teenage dragons, that might be greedy, but are neither running amok with greed like he did, so they might have just aged to that point. Not to mention that dragons appearently eat jewels for a good diet. But what worries me is Spikes ability to burp flames that deliver messages to Celestia. There is just no way in hell that is natural. Thats obviously magic, that was imbued into him, and its not entirely clear if that he was asked. It happens that he sends stuff by accident, and in one episode, when used the other way around he got physically sick from being forced to spawn more and more letters.
>>19995882It's still better than Equestria though, because at least modern earth is fucking -going- somewhere. We make progress and actually -do- shit instead of fucking around for a thousand years under the heel of a gardener-demigodess.
>>19995809Yeah, but this a one-off where Big Mac is injured. It doesn't state that they ever help with other apple harvests, other than the one where Applejack is fucked up.Even before that, when Twilight still lived in Canterlot, they worked on the farm.So if Applejack can't harvest at least a quarter of the Orchard by herself, it must mean that Big Mac harvests them
>>19995892Well, they ARE earth pony hicks...
>>19995892He was still carrying 3 bitches in his cart in the Halloween ep.
>>19995868Did you do something stupid while you were over there?
>>19995890I have no idea why I listen to hip hop.
>>19995905or shes a woman
>>19995412>Bear - Very strong and tough, but also dumb and incapable of speaking. Bears, and only bears, can be bears, and are always bears.>Racial talent: Bear - Bears are the sole wielders of Bear Lore, and refuse to share it with anyone.>Exclusive Class: Bear
>>19995873At least double her Wis modifier
>>19995906I think the speculation behind this was that they wanted to learn more about dragons, and some how they managed to obtain a dragon egg.And Celestia admitted that Twilight was a very gifted unicorn so she trusted her with the upbringing of the young dragon at least for now.
>>19995927That -4 is a killer.
>>19995906lots of people accept that it's a general, regular task to hatch baby dragons. It's not.In the episode where Spike goes to see the other dragons, he ask Twilight where he came from in his existencial crysis, and Twilight says that she doesn't know, she doesn't know how or where they found his egg, and that he is one of a kind.He doesn't even have wings.
>>19995906Domestic dragons = catsWild dragons = Tigers that fly and breath fire
>>19995936Dragons get wings as they mature.Spike's greed-growth was a dragon-unique condition (like cutie pox) that's an environmentally-caused disease, not part of their regular life cycle.
>>19995892Your point being?
>>19995962Spike is an Earth Dragon. A Magic Earth dragon. He will never have wings. Ever.
>But I don't like that I'm basically irrelevant.Ah, because if you were a 3rd world shit-farmer you'd be sooo much more relevant, right? I bet you wish you were born 300 years earlier because then you'd for sure be born a baron or explorer and change the world, amrite?
>>19995906What if they weren't supposed to actually manage to open the egg to pass the test, they were just tasked to see how they went about trying? Like, they weren't expected to actually manage do it?
>>19995906Perhaps the Dragon hatching thing is basically the kobayashi maru? It it about degrees of failure and all that.
>>19995271here is another one, from the ancient and almost forgotten days of the 1st season.
>>19995962I DISAGREEEBut really I like the idea that there are just a lot of different kinds of dragons, some of whom don't have wings. Not saying it's impossible, but I like this option more.
>>19995906Spike is the ONLY dragon we've ever seen in pony society. Unless no one else ever passed the school's entrance exam, it's fair to assume that was a unique situation. If dragons were common, then they'd probably be communication hubs all across the land.
>>19995962Not really. The other dragons even teased him with the lack of his wings. If they grow it later, they probably wouldn't have, or say "he doesn't even has his wings yet!" or something like that.
>>19995909It's like the Galactic Federation. After technological singularity there's not much else to do other than have fun while doing your part to keep society running. That's why so many people wanted to become explorers in Star Trek: going where no man has ever gone before in ANY field is extremely rare.
>>19995946domestic dragons also breath fire.imagine a cat that can breath fire. fuck that shit
>>19995992I think that's what Faust said. The test wasn't designed to be accomplished, but rather how you approach it and your attitude towards failure.
>>19995980Oh, it's not just me. Basically everyone is irrelevant. No matter what you do or how you do it, there will ALWAYS be a million spares which might even do it better than you do. There is no one who is not an irrelevant, expendable cog. We are ALL the frivolous pony who's ambition is to throw parties. That is how unimportant we are.
>>19996001They teased him about it BECAUSE wings are a sign of growth. They all get them eventually, but Spike is still a baby (which is probably a much longer state of being for a species that lives thousands of years). Even the tard dragon had wings.
>>19996001I don't remember how they phrased their insults, but I could still see them making fun of him for not having wings even if they didn't at that age and got them later. It's very much in character for bullying kids/teenagers.
And it's not just the peasants either. We can always find another baron. Even kings are only king until somebody else decides they want to be king, and make him give it to them. I just want to live in a world where people matter. Is that too much to ask?
>>19995992Well that's a unique perspective. That's a cool idea
>>19995909But shit is happening in Equestria. The place is surrounded by militaristic griffons, asshole dragons and emotion eating bug ponies. And those are just the major threats you've also got Diamond dog slave raiders, everything in the Everfree and the whole frontier thing Appaloosa has going. I think that you just don't understand the world. Or you're just fucked in the head. One of the two.
>>19995872he talks all right, i sorta hate "yup" and "nope" became running jokes, i like him talking more.loved that bit where he starts talking and applejack was the one going "yup".
>>19996028Why is it so hard to believe that purple dragons don't get wings? Just because he's the only dragon in the entire show without them (barring the sea serpent in the S1 pilots) doesn't mean he's going to grow them in later. Landbound dragons are a thing, after all. Besides, who's to say he wasn't affected by Twilight's magical overcharge on his hatching? He might be a mutant.
>>19996025i thought it was to show that you can abduct children and get away with it?
>>19996025Faust said that? Source? I'd really like to see that.
>>19996003The federation is not post-singularity, they are mildly post-scarcity. There's a difference. If they were post-singularity, there wouldn't be explorers, because the entire galaxy would be being explored by an expanding cloud of von neumann drones designed to devour and subsequently learn about everything down to the atomic level before making more of themselves to do it again.
>>19996044yes
>>19996070We see a fucking dragon migrationIf there were land bound dragons then there would have been dragons on the ground tooAnd if the land bound dragons migrate separately then the dragons that spike approached should have commented that he shouldn't be thereYou have no ground to stand on
>>19996090Fuck you, I'm still gonna.
>>19995271AJ and RD should be switched aroundRD is a bigger show off than AJ
>>19996146AJ's still more social. The description is what needs to be changed.
>>19995785I bet Big Mac's yoke is made of dark matter or something. One of these days someone will make him so mad he'll take it off and break the floor.
>>19995906The idea is that greed fueled dragons grow into monsters, while non greedy dragons grow normally, hence them showing teenage dragons, also why the one in dragon shy turned to be reasonable, but the one in owls well than end well wasnt.
>>19996146i think the descriptions are off.everyone knows RD is just a attention whore in a pony form
>>19996146And AJ is a bigger tomboy than Dash. I didn't make the chart.
>>19996085Even so, you have to understand that humans and ponies would have considerably different psychology. Humans are hunters driven to find new, rich lands to sustain themselves. Ponies are herbivores with a herd-mentality. Their top priority would be to live safe, secure lives. They're essentially hobbits.
>>19996171tosses it into a rock, the rock explodes
>>19996184Pinkie Pie is everything and nothing at the same time
>>19996141Be that as it may, it irks me to no end that people don't even entertain the possibility that there is such a thing as a wingless, magic dragon.
Great thread, everyone. We managed a civil discussion without it devolving into a sagefest or porn dump. I'm proud of you, /tg/
>>19996286
>>19996143No, beacuse futility (keep fighting though)
>>19996282there are different kinds of ponies, there is probably different kinds of dragons. winged dragons magic dragons and generic boring dragons
>>19996171in fact his yoke is an inhibitor that restrains his real strength and stops him from accidentaly fucking shit up. Sorta like with this guy.
>>19996171It's his phylactery. The entire Apple family is liches. Applebloom has her bow, Applejack has her hat, Big Mac has his yoke, and Granny Smith has her walker.
So without the cartoon concealment of important social issues, what is Equestria really like?
>>19996320>>19996286I would like to make a motion to archive this shit.
>>19996286I bet Weaver did this.>>19996184You see, pinkest horse is why alignment charts don't work.Other examples of alignment not working include people like Batman and eldritch horrors like Cthulhu.Note that Pinkie follows a different set of laws of physics than everyone else.
>>19996352
>>19996357I Second this motion
>>19996282It's odd considering some of the classic Dragons were wingless....
>>19996373Exactly! And they've got the entire Monster Manual to work with besides.
>>19996367So is Pinkie Batman, an eldritch horror or Hitler?
>>19996373it reminds me of the courage the cowardly dog episode with the water dragon that was raised by flying dragons.
The play was really fucked, I read it like "hey, were sparta, athens, and the slaves that just wont grow our shit for some reason!"The tradeoff the show nudges is that compared to bucking apples and making cakes, the pegasi do much more "government" work, and the unicorns even moreso. From the way its represented celestia is entirely process and bureaucracy. This is only any kind of check and balance because ponies seem so inherently good and dutiful. But to keep it /tg/, its seriously because theyre a lawful good race with few exceptions, so their otherwise totally monopolizing culture comes off as having a philosopher king rather than a tyrant.
>>19996400Yes.

Ever felt that satisfaction of working out the solution to a problem yourself rather than being told what to do? Ever won a fight? It's not that suffering makes life worthwhile. It's just that conflict and struggle gives a real feeling of achievement when overcome. To a point, of course. If life is nothing but struggle then you never actually achieve anything and never get any payoff.

It's not that hard to understand.Dragons with Wings = Mostly DicksDragons without Wings = Not DicksWhen Spike grew to his adult body he still lacked Wings. The issue is that he went to a migration of the wrong species. It'd be like a Cheetah going on a migration with Leopards or Lions.
>>19997586i kinda enjoy the molestia tumblr though (which coincidentally is the only one i'm really familiar with)
just don't throw rocks at me for liking rule34 pls [/tg/_has_no_spoilers]
>>19997684It wasn't an adult body, though. It was the dragon equivalent of elephantiasis. If he wasn't actually a dragon just like them, they would have either eaten him or kicked him out when he arrived.
>>19997684>The issue is that he went to a migration of the wrong species.well the retarded pony folk do know next to nothing about dragons besides keeping them for experiments for unicorns
>>19997732i'm not throwing rocks, molestia is just a fucking tease. i guess some people enjoy that i don't.also i can't remember if she blocked anon questions like 99% of the other ones
>>19997749And that shit opens up a huge ethical can of worms.Spike already has some angst over his origins, and it's only gonna get worse as he gets older while his friends die off.
>>19997747The only dragons he interacted with were kids who were probably ignorant of the species difference. They did comment on his lack of wings. Also remember how the only adult winged Dragon Spike ever interacted with tried to kill him.Spike most likely lucked out by not talking with an adult would would have known the difference.
>>19997773The one he ran into tried to kill him because he was STEALING his gems. Dragons seem to be pretty intensely territorial, especially when it comes to guarding their hordes.
>>19997797It's still unnatural for an adult of that type of species to kill a child over a minor incident like that. Also why do you want Spike to have wings so bad? He's still a dragon without them
>>19997762unicorns live up to 1000 years still not anywhere as long as a dragon
Wow, /tg/. Didn't know you are cool. But it seems you are cool.
go back to your ghetto /pony/fags
>>19997857Unicorns have regular lifespans.Alicorns are the only long-lived ones, though we don't know if they're immortal or just capable of long life.
>>19997762>>19997857oh i'm sure there are ways to prolong your life, if you are your God's most faithful student.
Allow me to (VERY LATELY) interject with a small tidbit of information.Lawful Good - Twilight, ApplejackNeutral Good - Flutter, Rarity (a shaky good though, might be TN)Chaotic Good - Pinkie, Rainbow.Am I too late? I'm too late.
>>19997850Plenty of species will kill their young out of territoriality. Lions, chimps, and lots of other predators practice that. That, and Spike would probably be looked upon as a pariah, having been raised by the weak ponyfolk.
>>19997913Yet none of Celestia's previous students seem to have benefitted from that relationship. She has to have had a number of them over the 1000 year banishment, after all...Twilight can't be the first.
>>19997901Luna and Celestia seem to be the only ones who benefit from that though. Cadence looks like she ages at a normal rate.
/tg/ is good board and all you fine gentlemen should feel good.
I was really confused by this pony shit, then I found out it was made by Lauren Faust and is targeted to a general audience and not girls. Is this show worth checking out /tg/?
>>19997901Makes me wonder about Cadence though. It looks like she aged respectably from the flashback to the current time.If she is as capable of long life as Celestia and Luna, thats depressing for Shining Armor.
>>19997901i'm just going from a DnD stand point on unicorns. judging how they keep pulling from fantasy creatures. the normal lifespan of a unicorn is 1000 years. not sure of a pegasus
>>19998006It's a fun little thing. It's on Netflix and Youtube. I'd warn that the pilot is a bit weak, but it gets better as it goes along.
>>19998012The better question is where the hell she came from, parentage-wise...that goes for Blueblood, too.
>>19994079>jokeThe joke as 4chan sees it: "lol marital infidelity!"The actual joke: "Yeah, we just totally asspulled an explanation for why Mr. and Mrs. cake have non-Earth pony babies, because we need the kids to be harder for Pinkie Pie to babysit. It's not really fitting with everything we established so far, but... look, just roll with it."
>>19998006yes, don't listen to fans/haters, check it out and make your own opinion.as rule of thumb, everything that generates such an enormous resonance is worth checking out, even if only to stay in touch with current trends and developments.
>>19998060i'm sure adults who pay attention can make the same connection, but it is true that people are reading too much into it and forget it's supposed to be a cartoon about pastel colored horses.
