The creature pictured here is an Omnimute. A curious species that possesses the unique ability to evolve in the space of a single /tg/ post.Omnimutes of all different colours are spawning in the same pool and it's up to you to decide how they grow, adapt and eventually conquer the ecosystem.>Explanation to follow
>For those familiar with Evo Games, this is essentially the same deal, except with only one starter species.>To start, save the base image on this post, fill it with your chosen colour/pattern and re-post it, stating your claim to it.>From then on, you can evolve 1 aspect of your Omnimute per post and include in your post your reason for adding that evolution. For instance, growing longer fins for added maneuverability.>For argument's sake, the planet we're on is identical to Earth, except that the only species is Omnimute and the many derivatives we shall create. All Omnimutes begin as amphibious filter-feeders in a communal pool that contains lots of algae and detritus.>Any questions, feel free to ask.
paralytic tendrils used for driving away interlopers into the omnimute's territory
>>20208065A freak mutation causes some Purple Omnimutes to grow with numb patches along the length of their bodies. When one of said Omnimutes gets stung on a patch, the paralytic sting has no effect. Naturally, these patches prove popular.
A red omnimute develops, with a single large spike jutting from its jaw for killing prey
I remember you!Can we continue on with our old Omnimutes if we still have them?
>>20208363Yeah, I have been waiting for the thread to continue too.
>>20208363>>20208389If you still have them, absolutely! Just make sure you explain them well enough for newcomers to co-ordinate with.
>>20208144The Purple Omnimutes' numb patches eventually further specialise and protrude from the body; these nodules are pure limp muscle and contain no nerve endings, the perfect distracting deterrent to Cthulumute strings.
The Ghillie Omnimute is a mud-and-water dwelling creature with plant-like tendrils for camouflage, an omnivorous diet, and strong nut-cracking jaws. It is still small, roughly three times as big as a normal omnimute.
The Fanged Omnimutes spike becomes curved, so prey can't escape
>>20208495The Ghillie Omnimute's air-filtering gills develop in to proper lungs, allowing it to forage for food away from the water.
>>20208443Eventually, these individual nodules fuse into a nerveless cape along the Purple Omnimute's back. This cape starts to collect photosynthetic algae through the host's life-time and a symbiotic relationship emerges.Unfortunately, this leaves the Purple Omnimute vulnerable to potential algae-feeding parasitic Omnimutes.
>>20208589With little competition on land, the Ghillie Omnimute doubles in size.It also gains eyes that are able to look down instead of just up and around.
>>20208589It then dies on the way back to its home planet.
>>20208415Alright! Perch Omnimutes. They've diverged and have been renamed Clompers, Flippers, and Clippers.Clompers are cow-sized herbivores.Flippers are small, aquatic herbivores. They need to travel to the surface for air from time to time.Clippers are small, carnivorous Omnimutes. The travel in schools and pick apart larger creatures. As like last time, feel free to branch off of mine. All are quite near-sighted.
>>20208698Big changes from the Ghillie Omnimute as it grows longer legs to adapt to land travel. Why is the thread so dead this time?
>>20208857Beats me. Though I must admit, yours and the Perches were 2 of my favourites from the last threads.
>>20208857The Ghillie Omnimute develops a less stubby, more flexible, neck.>>20208876I bet you picked a bad time. Weren't the other threads on the weekend?
Fuck, I would delete mine. Oh well, starting over
The clompers gain sligthly curved beaks
>>20208961http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/19533361/You're welcome>>20208964Hey, are the Clompers egg-laying creatures?
>>20208938Quite likely. I've brought it back now to fill in periods of down-time in another thread I'm contributing to (>>20151420), plus I've recently finished a project that was otherwise taking up my evenings.
The Scala variant surges! A distended stomach allows it to alter it's body balance easily, making it extremely mobile(though a tad bit slower). Said stomach can store food and nutrients for up to 3 days.
Meet the Companimute. It evolved as a small pack animal, that later gained a symbiotic relationship with other Ominmute descendants. It has evolved an organ that enables it to sense the host biological sign's. In the pack, the animals have a social status, and they communicate through the extensive use of color changeing cromatophores. They use colors to communicate with their host. The Companimutes in their current state have 3 adult fenotypes. The first one has enchanted senses allowing this type to sense the environment better. Because companimutes are dispersed over the hosts body, basically this may give a host a view of 360 degrees (this includes chemical reception, hearing and movement reception). The second phenotype excels at what all the companimutes do, cleans the host of dead tissue and parasites. Their strong chompers may be used in defending of the host. The real defenders are the 3rd phenotype. These companimutes have evolved acid glands which makes their heads bigger. They may spit this acid over nasty parasites, or anything that dares to hurt their host.
>>20208985Truly, you are a gentleman and a scholar. But still, I'd like to start fresh. Developed a fat store for the little guys, for when food is scarce
>>20208938The Ghillie Omnimute's tendrils become thinner but more densely packed, looking more like grass or hair.>>20208998We're glad you brought it back!
>>20209007Good riddance, tail! The Scala drastically reduces it's tail size, it's bigger back...flippers? enable greater thrust and mobility than it's previous incarnation. Mostly because the tail kept getting on it's way.
>>20208985Ask OP. I haven't changed any of that stuff yet.The jaws of some clompers shorten, making them better for crushing harder plants.Eyesight of Clippers improves. They are no longer near-sighted.
The Paramute evolved from the Companimute through neoteny. A Paramute looks like a juvenile Companimute, smells like one, communicates like one. However it is a solitary and very nasty parasite. Here is the lifecycle of the Paramute:The adult exo parasite lays an egg into the host's skin. This egg releases the vermiform larva, that lives in the lower layers of the skin. Through its maturation the vermiform larva goes deeper, and enters the body cavity. There it matures into the Redia stage, which produces clones of itself in the form of larval exoparasites. The mature redia travels to the skin, and releases the larvae from a rupture it creates. Most of the clones die if an adult Companimute is around the time the rupture forms, but some always escape and hide among the ranks of larval Companimutes.
>>20209130Oh, well.OP, are we all egg-laying creatures, or what?
>>20209020Extended the legs a little, for some rudimentary swimming instead of crawling around in the mud
>>20208985>>20209130I would imagine Omniputes reproduce much like most Earth fish, eggs and external fertilisation. It makes perfect sense for landborne Clompers to develop sexual reproduction and hard-shelled eggs.Though they're still naturally ectothermic and will need to find a better source of heat for incubation than nest-sitting.
A new omnimute emerges, with larger, flatter legs to help when swimming.
>>20209207Good, then>>20209130YOU are my prey!>>20209123The quick-footed and strong-jawed Ghillies begin to feed on the eggs of the Clopper. Their jaws become even more powerful.
>>20209237The sea mute's tail splits at the end, and now moves from side-to-side when swimming, hopefully increasing it's speed and so its chance to avoid predators.
>>20209333The eggs of the *Clomper, I mean
>>20209341In response to it's increased engery needs the seamute grows a large mouth.
>>20209130Clompers gonna clomp.
>>20209168The front legs begin to angle downwards, letting them "walk" on the mud beds.
>>20209430The seamute's overall body shape changes, streamlining the creature.
The Paramute's lifecycle changes. The rediae produce an egg instead of an exoparasite larva. These eggs are released into the digestive tract, and leave the hosts body. They hatch when a host with a colony of Companimutes is near. The hatched larval exoparasitic Paramutes try to get on the host, and integrate into the Companimute swarm.
The seamute gains a large, but simple, eye on the side of it's head.
>>20209127New "gills" emerge around the distended stomach! these gills enable the Scala to control it's body balance even more easily! please do note that these gills do not lead to a secondary respiratory system, but to a "sac" of water to the sides of the stomach controlled by a muscular system. The sac of water becomes smaller as the Scala accumulates more and more food, making it a tastier and slower target the more it's been nourished.
>>20209486The back legs extend further, making walking easier
The seamute develops bristles to help in it's filter feeding.
>>20209333I don't know, I'm just bored. You guys are doing all the hard work.
>>20209333Pictureless update.Due to Ghillies eating their eggs, Clompers have taken to guarding their nest sites. The mother chases approaching creatures away from her nest, only leaving it occasionally for food and drink.
>>20209722The head becomes shorter, as it no longer needs to dig through the mud to find food, its longer legs allowing it to reach algae forming on the surface of the pool.
>>20209736The seamute grows longer and stronger fins that better suit the seas. Unfortunatley the new fins are next to useless on land.
The seamute grows a longer body, which it moves side-to-side with its tail as it swims to generate more thrust.(Also does anyone have any idea how I could add scales and make them look not to horrible.)
>>20209816The legs extend even further, letting the Brown Omnimute peek above the surface of the water, for both fresh air and more algae.
>>20209894
>>20209969Awesome, thanks.
A new fenotype emerges within the Companimute swarms. This is an overgrown neotenic larva, that has developed an advanced host sensing system. This system basically anchors the individual, as tentacles from the underside penetrate the host skin for a more accurate host status analysis. The anchored companimutes are fed by the community.
All of a sudden, omniweed appears. Also known as cthulhumute.A deepwater mute that lives among the seaweed at the bottom of the ocean. With paralyzing fins protuding around its mouth and back and highly sensitive fins working as eyes.It "hunts" by camouflaging itself among the seaweed, lying in wait until a creature swims into its back fins, paralyizing themselves and alerting the mute, who then eats it.
>>20209894The seamute's flippers change direction to be more suited for swimming.(Tryings mosaic pattern with scales in next post.)
>>20210117The seamute gains scales all over its body, to protect it's self from predators.
To ensure enchanted survival, another larval type has appeared, the cercaria. These hatch from the eggs of the redia. There two different types of cercaria. One is an aquatic phenotype the other forms on land. The aquatic one swims and searches for a host that travels through water. Attaches itself to it, and releases an exo larva. The land type is a jumper larva. It waits for a host to pass by, jumps over it, and attaches to the skin.
>>20209761>>20209333Sorry for the HUGE wait.Computer troubles. In response to the defense of the Clomper's nests, the Ghillie develops front claws to grab objects and powerful back legs, allowing it to run on two legs for short bursts. They also begin to hunt in packs.
Did everyone leave?
>>20211172It appears so.
>>20211172I did not, too bad the other posters are gone.
>>20211172You are huge, that means you have huge guts!Infest and eat your guts! - by Paramute
>>20211249Keep posting!I'm up for doing more, but I feel bad about posting two evolutions in a row.
>>20211281It's the size of a cow- Right now the biggest land creature here.Mostly, though, the Ghillie is just pretty small.
The Paramute develops an alternative 3rd larval stage. Upon reaching the host, some cercaria transfrom into an infective stage, and drill through the host's skin. This usually happens when there are a lot of Companimutes around, and there is no time to release a 4th larval stage. If they succeed in piercing the host's skin, they release a 1st stage vermiform larva as an asexual reproductive route.
>>20210748Now living in groups, the Ghillie develops sexual dimorphism! Females become larger, and the tendrils of the male change colors. There are 1~3 dominant males in each group, marked by their bright red tendrils.Only the females and non-dominant males hunt.
>>20210188The seamute's mouth becomes forward facing, making feeding easier.
>remember this months ago>didn't continue because of moving>see this>going to visit family tomorrowEVERYTIME.Don't have anything to contribute right now unfortunately.
>>20211719The Ghillies grow claws on their back feet. The females, being larger, begin preying on the Clompers directly. They work in packs to single out a Clomper, then use their jaws to crush its windpipe.Males and Juvenile Females still steal eggs.Dominant Males don't hunt but, like all Ghillies, occasionally graze for nuts.
>>20211725The seamute's eye become much more advanced.
The companimutes with the ability to connect to the host further deepen this bond. Their special organ now not only bores deep into the skin of the host, but grows tendrils to the nervous and circulatory system. This enables the swarm of companimutes to better understand the host's current state.
>>20211826>>20211951The dominant males (and only the dominant males) become more chemically compatible with the Companimutes. This allows them to act as lookouts for the rest of the pack.
The Vovymute makes an appearance. It lives in shallow water.
A new phenotype emerges from the ranks of the Companimutes. These individuals have developed longer body appendages and a membrane connecting them. This membrane is thin, bit is filled with the cromathophores of the companimutes make extensive use of. A few of these individuals covering an are of the host can give it a visual camouflage, a lot of them can change the entire color of the skin of the host.
The seamute's head and underside become more streamlined.
The Vovymute developes fins for superiour underwater speed and agility. It's main food source is tiny algae.
>>20212119The seamute grows in size, it now also feeds on the smaller sea creatures (if there are any), that will fit in it's maw.
The the companimute phenotype with the ability to connect develops a larger brain, as they start to act as central information hubs for the swarm. This helps them to gain more information regarding their host's status too.
>>20212055The Ghilliemute now spends 80% of its time bipedal. At the same time, roles have become more specialized. Adult females hunt, juvenile females steal eggs, males watch the Ghillie eggs and gather nuts, dominant males keep watch.
>>20212191No pic, but now, due the impracitcallity and low survival rate of such large eggs the seamutes now have live births of a few calves rather than lay multiple eggs.
The anchoring companimutes develop even more neural tissue, forming a large modular brain. These companimutes require more food from the swarm thanks to their hungry neural tissue overflow.
>>20212164The Vovymute further developes it's fins, strengthening them so it can use them to move around better. It also developes a crown on the back of it's tiny skull. Purpose as of yet unknown.
>>20212216>>20212347The dominant male Ghillie bulks up, gaining fat stores in order to feed its Companimute swarm.
>>20212410Woops, forgot pic
>>20212350The Vovymute grows in size slightly, as well as it's tail and neck growing longer, due to the steady availability of algae to feed on.
>>20212191The seamute's mouth becomes more prehensile and can be used in a greater variety of ways, for example, sucking to hinder the escape attempt of smaller creatures.
>>20212489Derp. Forgot my picture.
>>20212501That's all for Vovymute for tonight.
>>20212496The seamutes gain large cheeks, in which to digest the smaller creatures they sometimes catch.
The neural tissue increases in all companimute phenotypes. Due to this, the swarms communication becomes more diverse and effective. This increases the survival of the host, who has gained and effective surveillance, camouflage, pest control and defensive system.
>>20212644Do the Companimutes effect any specific creature or any omnimute descendant of Omnimutes?
>>20212644With all these smart ass Companimutes the impostor Paramutes need some brain power too or they could not hide in the swarms.
>>20212419>>20212644With no real need for movement, the dominant male Ghillie settles even more in to it's roll as lookout and host. It feeds and interfaces with the Companimutes better but can only move at a slow waddle.
>>20212681They can live with any Omnimute descendant, but their descendants tend to live on the same species resulting in species specific strains. The color depicted here is a standard one, however they are color changers and usually use colors that go well with their host. They have a respiratory system that works well on land, but can be used under water, so underwater symbiotic relationships are possible too (but under water the acid producing companimutes cannot spit). The Paramutes are omnivores regarding omnimutes.
>>20212613The seamute gains two holes in its cheeks, used for expelling excess water and digestive juices when feeding. This speeds up the digestion process.
>>20212804Thank you.
The anchoring companimutes develop a much stronger connection with their host. Essentially fusing with their nerves and blood vessels, they gain their nutrition directly from the host.
>>20212810Last evo for the night. The seamutes, now more succesful on their new hybrid diet, grow much larger.(At the moment I see them as blue-whale-murder-sea-vacuums.)
I think I've hit a dead end, here. The Ghillie are perfectly well adapted until something changes.
Well it is 4 am here, so i better get some sleep. Till next time, the Companimutes shall rise again (and the Paramutes too).
