Holy crap, that time again? Man, Sunday and Monday just flew by! Well, it's that time again; welcome back to the Civilization Game!

Previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20375515/

When last we left the tribe, we had just welcomed the river spirit, Chani, into the tribe, building her a shrine by the river, only to discover than an enemy we all thought dead had once again appeared...
>>
As the winter snows begin to close in, the tribe gathers at the river's edge to cheer and welcome the river spirit, Chani, to the tribe. Chani herself is glad of the attention, but not so keen on being considered a member of the tribe. Still, she seems happy and so do the villagers! Tales are told and food is eaten well into the night.

RANDOM EVENT
Just as the tribe is done celebrating the construction of the shrine, one of the women comes running into the village, her face white as the snow. She claims that as she was releaving herself, she saw something on the outskirts of the village; a huge, terrifying form that sends a ripple of panic through everyone present... A huge, white wolf. Worse yet, she claims that she saw it watching the festivities and then, that it stood up on its hind legs and walked away like a man!
>>
First one in, today!
>>
Forgot my tripfaggotry in my haste. /shrug Oh, well, I wasn't the first one in anyway.
>>
Oh, bugger, options!
>>20414081
A) Send out a group of hunters to seek out and kill the White Wolf! ...Again!
B) Consult with Chani for guidance
C) Leave an offering, in the hopes the White Wolf will leave the tribe alone
D) Bank the fires. It's only an animal and we've killed it once!
E) Ignore it. It hasn't attacked the tribe yet and only went after the hunters last time when we took the offensive.
>>
>>20414123
B.) Consult Chani. She's a spirit, she should know how to allow us to free it from the tragic bonds of mortal form.
>>
B) Consult with Chani for guidance.
>>
Hi everyone!
Sorry, couldn't find the thread for 10 minutes for some reason

B)
>>
B.)
>>
>>20414180
Chani looks a little confused as to what you mean by 'the tragic bonds of mortal form', but agrees to share what she knows.

The White Wolf is a spirit, like her. They've had a little inter-action over the years and neither of them have really spoken much, given they both only learned language from the tribe recently. She is impressed that Trym managed to kill the beast, but warns that it will be eager to set that to rights. The White Wolf is not inherently evil, or hostile, it's simply proud and unwilling to compromise. It current intentions are a mystery to her, but she does confirm that she knows no way to kill another spirit.

A) Take another action
B) New turn
>>
A), I think
>>
>>20414337
Kill it again. We have bows now. After that, slaughter the wolves. It must be getting its power from somewhere, and we were merciful in letting them live the last time.
>>
Wait! I think I understand

White Wolf
Arrives each winter
Isn't evil, but hostile and unrelenting
Freezing breath

He's the Spirit of Winter, gaiz
>>
>>20414413
He's never had freezing breath. Where did you get that from? O.o
>>
>>20414434
... You said his breath was icy in one of your fluff posts.
>>
>>20414452
I am pretty sure I never did. The White Wolf has no ice powers, that was just assumed to be what he was building up to when he used a special. It was actually a head-splitting howl.
>>
>>20414434
He did have that one ice attack.
>>
>>20414484
>>20414480
Nevermind.
>>
He didn't? Im confus now o_o
>>
Disregard the confustion.

Chani confirms that the White Wolf is NOT the spirit of winter. Winter itself HAS no spirit, she claims, only its seperate aspects do.

There. It's settled. New action, or new turn?
>>
Thanks for the clarification, OP!

Action: Ask Chani, what is the White Wolf a spirit of?
What can she tell us about him?
Are there any more spirits like her and him?
>>
A) Ignore it. There's no need to go pick fights against a largely unknown enemy. The tribe should devote its efforts to food cultivation in preparation for expansion.
>>
>>20414581
All the right questions.

+5 respect points for you.
>>
>>20414581
In fact, lets just have a Water Shamen study under her so we have memebers of the tribe that already know a bunch of the answers on matters of the Spirit World.
>>
>>20414581
Chani has told you all she knows about the White Wolf. She can't really guess at his nature, but suggests you ask him yourselves. She can confirm that there are a LOT more spirits like him and her, but they may or may not be any smarter than animals at the moment. She and the White Wolf learned from watching humans, after all and there's a lot of places that humans aren't.

>>20414672
Training priests and shamen is an action for a turn, not as a reaction to an event.
>>
A) Hunt down the White Wolf
B) Try to find the White Wolf to negotiate and talk
C) Leave an offering, in the hopes the White Wolf will leave the tribe alone
D) Bank the fires. It's only an animal and we've killed it once!
E) Ignore it. It hasn't attacked the tribe yet and only went after the hunters last time when we took the offensive.
>>
C. He's prideful. We'll have to quell his wrath before we open negotiations.
>>
B/C, Leave an offering on the outskirts of the area it was reported being sighted, and hopefully it will be more inclined to communicate with us. We've defeated it once, so it knows where we stand combat wise... If we're even attempting to offer an olive branch hopefully it'll accept that proposal.
>>
>>20414893
>>20414760
E.) He's also uncompromising, and will do whatever he wants regardless of appeasement.

We'll build up defenses and weaponize fire or something, ready to strike back should it return.

The votes are currently even for negotiation and ignoring the White Wolf. Dice time!

Bloody hell, LAST-MINUTE entry! Registered JUST in time there.

The leaders of the tribal families decide that, this time, it would be best to err on the side of caution. They order their families not to hunt down, not engage with the White Wolf in any way.

Actually, OP, please scratch my first >>20415135 suggestion
I agree with sending a shaman to live with Chani and learn the ways of the river

The only question is, should the shaman be a woman or Trym Wolfsbane?
>>
>>20415219
... obviously a woman. Tyrm Wolfsbane may be needed to hunt the wolf, don't tie him up with spiritual matters.
>>
>>20415219
Not Trym, he's a hunter, not a shaman. Considering he won that out in single combat, he either has the favor of some powerful beings behind him or he's a skilled warrior. Let the shaman be someone else, either an elder or someone else.

Maybe ask Chani to select someone she trusts? I mean, she would be telling them secrets and all...
>>
>>20415264
Secrets that we need. A shaman that withholds information is useless.
>>
>>20415219
That is indeed the question! I think it's clear the tribe is starting their religious practices this turn. Now the only question is who your first priest/priestess is. Given how small the tribe is, I'm going to count this as another hero character, like Trym. You know what that means!

I'd like a consensus on your cleric's name and a general description. It doesn't need to be anything too fancy, just something to identify them by.
>>
>>20415293
Doesn't have to withhold secrets, trust doesn't mean secrecy. It just means they're comfortable working with them. If you're handed some random joe, and then told to tell them everything about yourself, would you? No.

You're more likely to speak to someone you know a little, or trust. Good feelings about.

Hold a cultural event maybe, to allow Chani to discover The Chosen, maybe? I dunno.

Rina, River Shaman

On of the tribe's widows from the harsh winter, Rina had little to do with her life, her own son soon to be able to serve the tribe without her assistance. With no children to care for, or a husband to serve, she jumped at the oppritunity to learn the ways of the spirits under Rina, learning the ways of the River. Half to fullfill her motherly instincts, half to aid her tribe in any way she could, she moved into Chani's Shine, to study under her, and keep it in order.
>>
>>20415373
Seconded
>>
>>20415373
I was just waiting for a seconding motion.

Chani is not always at her shrine, indeed, she's fairly infrequently there, however Rina takes to her job with a will, learning the spirit's ways and finding out what pleases her and what does not.

The Elders are worried. They believe that the White Wolf is learning from the tribe and the longer it is left, the stronger it will become. They want to kill it now, before it becomes too strong an attacks.

It is worth noting that there have been only a handful of sightings of wolves this winter.

Some more responses would be appriciated, but for now, I'll keep this running.

Trym takes up his spear and selects a group of the best hunters, armed with bows, knives and spears of their own. Together, they strike out for the most likely place to find the White Wolf; the Wolf Oak.

> Still winter for the sake of this event

Trym leads the hunters deep into the forest, pushing through the snow and bitter cold, until they arive near the Wolf Oak. Despote the earlier reports, there are few signs of the beasts around the ancient tree now. What they do find, however, is a man sitting on the roots at the base of the ancient tree, clad in buckskins and clasping a flint-tipped spear. His hair is white as snow, but matted and heavy, raggedly cut with a flint knife. Most strangely, in place of a human's ears, two wolf ears adorn his head and wrapped around his middle is a white wolf's tail.

At Trym's approach, the man looks up, his eys yellow and wild. "I want my pelt back."

How will Trym respond?

"It's mine. I want my pelt back." The White Wolf stands, stepping towards Trym, looking him in the eye without flinching, "You defeated me fairly. The wolf pack dispersed. I did not attack your village when I returned from the Deep Wilderness. You beat me fairly and I kept my end of the deal. But to strip me of my pelt was a humiliation. I want it back."

>>20416123
B.) "I'll give you your pelt back, but in exchange the village will continue to go unmolested, and you will answer some of my questions. Acceptable?"

I have no interest in stirring trouble with your village. Now I am alone, there is plenty for me to hunt that you do not." He walks back to the oak, leaning against it and laying his spear beside him. "Ask your questions, human."

"The World of Spirits... You don't know what you're talking about," the White Wolf snickers, "For an aeon, I knew only the Deep Wilderness. I knew only the pack and the prey. This world and it were not so different. Then you appeared. I began to learn. I could see myself from the eyes of something not the pack, not the prey. I watched you and learned. You are interesting, different, growing stronger and stronger with each new moon. You make things. You put stone on a stick and call it a spear. You burn wood like a lightning strike, but at your whim. I would much rather be here, to see what will happen, than in the Deep Wilderness, where nothing ever changes."

>>20416349
He shrugs, "All of them, none of them. I don't know. The river knows you. The forest knows you. The sun and the moon are beginning to know you. I don't know how many others."

>>20416367
"This tree?" he pats the gnarled trunk and smirks, "It is old. I like it. But it also marks a place. A place where it is easier to go from the Deep Wilderness to this place."

>>
>>20416405
"You ask a lot of questions," the White Wolf curls his lips back, half-smorking, half-snarling, revealing pointed teeth, "The river is the river and I am a wolf. I am not the spirit 'of' anything but me and that is enough."

"I know little of the river. I drink from it and that is all. You've given it a name? Chani. Names are human things, but another of your good ideas. Give me a name too and maybe I'll answer more questions. Or maybe not."

"I changed myself by watching you. How do you think the river came to look like one of your females? She watched."

"I will not tell you how to kill a spirit. Do you think me a fool?" The White Wolf definitely snarls that time, his arm moving for his spear.

If anything this Wolf can be a great ally to us.

The White Wolf, Hrunti, seems pleased with his name and with the return of his pelt. He drapes it about his shoulders like a cape. "Good. I'll not harm your tribe, if you don't insult me. Offer me good things and a good shrine and I might even give something in return."

With that, the meeting is over and Trym returns to the tribe, poorer for the loss of his trophy, but richer by far, for the answers gained from the White Wolf.

EVENT
While out hunting game, your hunters happened across another group after the same herd. They looks like hunters from the other, nearby village. The two groups immediately distrusted one another, coming across each other armed, as they were and it took some time for tempers to cool. Luckily, the herd has grown large and fat from the lack of many predators, so hunting was fairly easy, this time.

Action Points: ONE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to catch game
C) Send people to catch fish at the river
D) Gather resources
E) Have your wise ones research something (specify)
F) Hold a cultural event
G) Craft specific objects
H) Other
I) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)

Fruit doesn't grow until Fall. I say we just take a few bushes to the village and let them grow. they could even serve as a kind fence to protect the village.

D.) Uproot those thorn bushes and bring them back to the village
>>
>>20417608
this
>>
>>20417583
I meant to do this last thread, but you stopped as soon as it occured.

D/H) Gather some of that good ole tree sap and research it as a fuel source.
>>
F) Spring Fruit&Fuck, anyone?
>>
>>20417667
I thought it was Summer Fish 'n' Fuck... or Winter Fish 'n' Fuck 'n' Wolf... I'm confused now
>>
>>20417608
Yea right, I forgot. Though should we rather uproot the thorn bushes for defense or some of the fruit bushes for close by food support and to get a basic understanding of agriculture (very very basic)?
Asking that because I'm not sure how many years your average berry bush takes to finally carry fruit. If it is longer than 1 or 2 years it might be wiser to first take some fully grown ones and expand by planting new ones. (Someone knows about berry bushes? Maybe I'm confusing them for fruit trees that usually take several years to be able to carry fruit)

Also enjoyed the thread so far OP, keep going. (Wasn't active today but it looks like shit got done anyway)
>>
>>20417667
We don't have any fruit... hence gathering thorn bushes...
>>
We have 11/13 food and 30 people, we don't need any goddamn more food.
>>
>>20417754
>wild fruit trees and bushes
>Flowing fruit tree glade

Don't lie.
>>
>>20417799
Actually, I think we need more people.
>>
>>20417848
I think he meant they are not ripened yet so we can't gather them.

>>20417799

Then how about some research or building?
Thinking of improving weaponry/fishing/housing or general crafting abilities with wood and clay.
Or maybe a crude earth / palisade wall.
>>
>>20417848
Its Spring. We can also move the fully grown bushes by hand. Also can be used for defense.
>>
>>20417799
This is why I suggested a cultural event.
>>
>>20417882
Or we could research pine sap as a fuel source, providing morale, defense, bonus to crafting, technology, etc.

Fire is the base of society.
>>
Some of the tribe head out to dig up the berry bushes and move them closer to the tribe. It's hot, difficult work, as the roots of the bushes are dense and extensive, to say nothing of the plants' natural defences.

CORRECTION
I really should have upped maximum morale earlier. There you go.

POPULATION MILESTONE
You may now hunt and fish at the same time! Two actions for the price of one!
>>
>>20417882
Did we ever build that storage hut?
>>
>>20417921
D/H) Gather some of that good ole tree sap and research it as a fuel source.

Still this because its right.

> Final turn for tonight, folks. It's starting to get a little late her in England.
>>
Yay!
Tribe has grown!
Summer has arrived!

F) Fish 'n' Fuck Festival!
>>
>>20417933
Oh 2.

Then we should have a festival of light during the night. Also fish and fucking.
>>
>>20417924
Don't think so. Food cap was only increased one time when we built a smoking hut. Increasing food cap would still make sense though especially now that we can hunt and fish at the same time. Would give us more time to do other stuff.

>>20417933

Would that really work? IIRC the stuff just smelled nicely when burned. That doesn't necessarily mean it burns by itself. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Also I don't yet see the necissity for that, given we're in a forest with for now unlimited wood.
>>
>>20417952
I mean, E)
>>
>>20417947
E.) Hold a festival to celebrate all the new members to the tribe.
>>
>>20418005
Its pretty flammable when refined apparently. Burns pretty hot as well.
>>
>>20418005
Burns hotter, longer, can make torches, street lamps, explosives!
>>
>>20417906
According to Guns, Germs and Steel, fire isn't the base of society, it's food and the ability to have it readily available. When concern for gathering food is nullified, there is more time left to spend in leisure to either invent or create art. Free time spent doing other things instead of hunting around for food.

So if we help improve our food situation, be it passively or progressively, then we'll have more free time to spend on other activities. That's pretty far down the line but... Still. Improving upon our living conditions and/or means of collecting food from the river or the surrounding areas be it by transplanting fruit trees closer to the village or by locating crops to grow close to home would be a good thing to do.
>>
>>20418045
>>20418064

Does the real tree juice do the same? If so, wow, I learn incredibly much on /tg/.

And also
E) Feast of Fish and Fucking to boost morale and to initiate new members
>>
>>20418075
Like those berry bushes we have? :/
>>
>>20418104
Just pine sap, if the tree is too "wet" it doesn't work, also has to do with resin content.
>>
>>20418116
Yeah, if they actually provide a source of food then it'll probably be a good source of food to collect. Probably not a lot depending on how many there are but... Yeah. Agriculture! Yay!

>captcha: for becaan
Yes captcha... For all the becaan.

Your tribe is delighted with a chance to have a day off. During the celebrations for the massive baby boom, the single biggest series of births your tribe has ever seen, your people make a discovery!

Drumming on a hollow log with hands or sticks, shaking strings of bones so that they rattle; it may not seem like much, but from these humble beginnings spring the first musical instruments!

And that's all for tonight folks! Next thread is at 4:30 PM, EASTERN STANDARD TIME on THURSDAY. You know you don't want to miss out!

I'll get this thread to the archives, where it belongs.
