This not only let them control their anathemic power much more finely, but also prevented them from burning out all the faster. The only tradeoff, of course, was that a suited Culexus would not be as powerful as an unsuited one. Not as effective. Not as potent.

It also meant that you would not see her rot away into a dessicated husk after only three years of active service.

That suited you just fine. Malal, after all, was the most powerful Culexus in the Officio. She could shut down even the most devastating magical attack sent her way without so much as straining herself, and that was with the suit on. She was not leader of the Culexus for nothing.

You would deal with this and so much more, if it meant being able to enjoy her company for but a moment longer.

Cheating...well, it's not something you like to do, even though you will admit that it is always a good deal of fun when you do. Being blessed with hands and legs like yours, it is practically something that you are a natural at. Even without Skulltaker summoned in your hands, you have four bladed weapons at your disposal, each one of them able to reave clean in concrete and slice through armor. If it weren't for the fact that doing such antics actually hurt, well...you'd probably still go into combat with Skulltaker.

Because who doesn't like a two meter-long chainsaw, honestly?


Even more when you consider that you can actually turn it into a two meter-long maul with a press of an activation rune.

Ripe for the picking, as they say. With only her warp-cursed eyes and that golden hequin staff in her hands to help her.

With Malal falling in lockstep beside you, both of you move toward her. Not running, but not walking, either. Stalking. Moving in for the kill.

I wouldn't quite call it scheming. She was desperately lonely, but she wasn't exactly enacting evil plans to remedy this fact. Keep in mind she didn't actually know all the downsides of going Meguca(which lead to her breakdown later on), and more importantly, she told the girls to consider their options very carefully before considering doing it and to make a much better wish than she did.

That said, the difference between anime Mami and MGNQ Mami are pretty easy to chalk up as Mami growing, maturing, and having come to terms with the horrible secret of space, er, I mean Megucas.

Unable to detonate, the bolt sparks as it grinds against Malal's barrier - before careening off to the side, where it smashes into a wall. The wall takes a moment to lose all of its color, and for a second you swore you saw daemonic faces snarl from the wallpaper - right before it EXPLODES, in a disproportionate display of incendiary force. Revealing the blue sky and part of the city's skyline to this little get-together, as well as a rather large drop to ground level.

Ahriman lets out a cry of frustration, of rage, of sheer hatred, and it's then that she sends another bolt crashing against your aide's barrier. And another. And another. Malal, of course, is more than willing to meet her halfway - that is, she now smashes her barrier right into the oncoming projectiles, gesturing with both her hands to extend the amber light outwards, to choke and muffle the bolts being spat out by the Third Warmaster. Each blocked hit bringing the both of you closer to Ahriman, until you're well within charging range.

"Any time you're ready, Kharn." Malal says, her voice smooth and unbroken, despite the vox-corruption.

Erebus going Witch would be a complication, but not a serious one. Ahriman is still the greater threat because without Malal's anti-magic field, we'd be instantly dead. And it doesn't prevent Ahriman from using magic to bring the building down on us, Malal's powers or no.

A Witch, in comparison, is a straightforward and relatively easier target.

I'm guessing that by involving a great many more people in clients, targets, etc. allows QB to collect the emotional energy or whatever you want to call it from a much wider scope. Quantity via the masses, as opposed to quality/quantity from his normal demographic.

Which happened in the anime, except to different ends. We don't actually know what's happened here yet. My money is that someone strong was dumb enough to try and wish the status quo back and fucked everything, while not even fully getting things back to the way they were.

Given that Ahriman is a schemer it wouldn't surprise me that the break in the crossfire is merely a feint to draw us out so she can attack us. Best to play defensively and not fall into any more of her traps.
