You had it removed after a few weeks, mainly because the counter seemed to always lag behind your own mental tally by a few dozen points or so. It came to a point that you would get into shouting matches with Malal about the correct kill count, and drove the two of you apart whenever it came up. It was also at that point that you earned the entire ire of the Culexus, and for four days they followed you wherever you went. Silently judging. Silently staring.

When they started watching you in the bathroom you begged Malal for forgiveness, and bought tickets to her favorite Death Metal band's concert to...grease the wheels of reconciliation, as they say. Things worked themselves out after that, with your aide sending an entire squad of newly-minted blonde Eversors to your office for some "hands-on training with the Warmaster" a few days after. You still have the photos from that night, kept in a secret album in your smartphone. You flick through it every so often, especially when you are spending the night alone.

Well, that is that and this is this. It is strange for you to be thinking about blondes at this particular point in time. What with falling from a fatal height and everything, the wind rushing in your ears, with a grinning redhead clamping her arms around your waist. Trying to take you down with her in a suicidal dive.

The sound is loud enough and shrill enough to make your own teeth itch, but at the very least, it's working to slow your fall from a plummeting dive to a controlled descent.

The moment that your fall is slowed down enough that you're not seeing your life flash past your eyes - your claws finally having dug deeply enough to hook against a solid metal windowframe - it's then that you plant both bladed feet agains the pane of glass below you and push off quickly. Giving you just enough momentum to swing out - not an easy feat when you've a rogue Magical Girl around your waist - and then swing back in. Snapping out with both legs, gritting your teeth and closing your eyes as you smash your way back into the building's interior.

You land on carpeted floor in a careful roll - dusting off the bits of shattered glass from your coat in the process - and as you all but fling Erebus away from you as you come to a stop, uncoiling and rising to your feet as you do so.

And it is then that you lunge at each other, at the same time. Her katana crackling with small, jagged forks of electricity. Your chainsword, Skulltaker, roaring in your hands as its chainteeth angrily chew air.

Injured, bleeding, and clearly fatigued, Erebus will not be much of a challenge. You are aware of this, just as she is. Her death is in the air, and she is living in moments.

At the very least, you can give her a death someone like her deserves.

As much as you would like to give Erebus her last rites and make her journey to the hereafter one she does not have to undertake alone, you unfortunately do not have time on your side. You can only end her suffering as quickly as you can, instead of lwaiting for her grievous wounds and blood loss to do the job. With the tip of Skulltaker, you pull her Soul Gem - a nice bright crimson one, ovoid in shape, with a seed of darkness blossoming from within - from the throat of her habit's collar and onto the ground beside her.

"Ahriman?" She murmur, again, weakly this time. "Ahriman, please don't let me die alone--"

"You are not alone, child." You say, just as you rest the edge of your bladed foot on the gem itself. "You deserve better than this, but I cannot give it. At the very least, rest with the knowledge that Ahriman will be joining you soon."

Silence, before a sigh. "...Thank you." You barely hear Erebus whisper, the light in her eyes dimming as she breathes out the last words.

You press down on the Soul Gem. A spark of light, a brittle cracking sound - and what was once The Third Warmaster's Equerry now lay shattered underneath your bladed foot, crunched into pretty dust. Another life, extinguished, dead because of this irresponsible foolishness. Adding another death to Ahriman's rising pile of sins.

You make to take her skull, but you take one of her purity seals, instead. The parchment sticky with the girl's own blood. It is not a trophy for you, not like how skulls would be. You will use it as proof, as testament. To show Ahriman just what her folly had done. Perhaps this will make her see the situation a bit more clearly.

No one should be allowed to die without being reminded of their mistakes.

...At least you think the thing swooping, cackling overhead, borne aloft by large, swooping raven wings is Ahriman. Once coldly regal and beautiful, elegantly so - the Third Warmaster seems to have been twisted into something the complete opposite of her. Her once beautiful face turned into what looks like a permanent scowl, a network of crimson and black veins seemingly branching out from her sunless eyes like permanent tracks of tarry tears.

Her elaborate torn to shreds at the back by the two giant, feathery projections that now seemed to hold her in midair despite not even flapping, or even moving.

Her once beautiful hands now twisted into arthritic claws, with her right seemingly curled permanently around the golden hequin staff with the hissing snake head. It seems to be the only thing left unchanged on the Third Warmaster as she continued to pummel your aide's faltering barrier with brutal blasts of raw, searing energy. The very building underneath your feet shaking with each concussive impact.

That said, you're not even sure if she's a Magical Girl anymore, at that. "She was amazing! She fought like a tiger, even when grievously injured! It is only a shame that she had to die because of your mistakes!"

But this proves that she can never become Warmaster, can never grow into the title she'd pulled out of a brutal honor duel victory. She can never lead.

With an invective in your harsh native language at your lips, you launch yourself at Ahriman, your metallic feet sparking as they tear you across the ripped carpet and revealed tile. Your entire body shifting into the blow, a horizontal strike to shear the monstrosity's head off her shoulders. To add to your collection of skulls, of gruesome remembrances of those whose threads you've cut.

More nonsense. More babbling. Whatever the golden staff was or wherever it was form, it had certainly done its purpose - to drive its wearer insane, and twist them into gruesome, misshapen beings. Ahriman was beyond help, that was much was clear. All the more to part her head from her shoulders--

It's with but the smallest, almost contemptuous gesture that Ahriman shatters Skulltaker into pieces. The blade coming apart, sundered down to its base components - gears, chainteeth, loosened shards of metal flying about as your pride and joy is destroyed in a single heartbeat.
