Good evening /tg/! Sorry for the delay. It's time for another round of the Civilization Quest! Last time... Surprisingly little bad happened. I'll have to fix THAT!

Previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20962727/

Full archive is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Red%20White%20and%20Britfag

I've somehow already managed to lose those pictures I was given last week, so I suppose we're stuck with the basics for now.

My body is ready.

I say we start out with what I suggested the previous thread.

Writing
Sending the expedition to build the shrine/outpost
Create what will be known as The Devouts of Groza, the men and women of the tribe who will apply themselves fully to the war god, spending their days training and growing more powerful in the art of war. They will be our sword and our shield, they will be our blade in the darkness.

We need a proper military, and training for our community to create a militia to rally around the trained soldiers.

That's actually a good image for the thread's OPs. Doesn't show plenty of copper-age-related-stuff, but it's cool.

Alright! Almost gave advice, but I have to remember I'm strictly neutral here! Now then...

The harvest is good and the fishing plentiful, but between half the haul being sent downriver to the River Brothers, their fishing the salmon before they reach you and the stop on deer hunting, there is far less intake than in previous years.

Your wise ones are on the brink of a major breakthrough. Some members of the tribe have seen them drawing on the inside walls of the huts.

Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
E) Hold a cultural event (specify)
F) Craft specific objects

It is a time of great celebration and pride within the tribe! In a great brawl before the shrine of Groza, the strongest men and women fight for the honour of being chosen as Devouts of the god, putting their mastery of fighting before all else in their lives. Only the toughest, braves and deadliest fighters join their number.

> How many will the Devouts of Groza number? These individuals will take no further part in ANY action the tribe takes, except from fighting. They will not hunt, build, fish, research or contribute anything, except as a fighting force.

Two more momentous events also occur at this time. The tribe sends a group of men and women up the river, along side Rina, to begin construction of a grand shrine to Chani, on her holy site. It may not be finished for some time, but when it is, it will be a place of great power and worship.

The Wise Ones reveal also that these two acts of devotion to the gods will be remembered for all time. In pictures with the meaning of words and ideas, they show the tribe how they have learned to record history and thoughts, so that others may learn what was never spoken by voice.

I'm generally okay with the idea of a dedicated warrior force, BUT you have to remember, we are only barely 300 able bodied people, a tiny tribe basically, still without dedicated labours. Only jack of all trades.
I'm not sure a tribe this size could sustain that kind of militia yet.

And don't you try and turn this into your death cult or something. Not on my watch!

But a shared culture will only speed that process!

Stories have a more significant role in a society's development than you'd think.

Look, if they know how to at least read we can keep in touch by letters, allowing our tribes to keep in contact while letting people get on with the shit they have to do day-to-day, as opposed to sending whole parties down, we can just use a mail boat.

Also it means we don't have to bring them up to speed once we assimilate them, and stops them developing their own written language we'll have to break them of.
>>
>>20991701
Welp, those are points I can't argue against. If we can at least gain a small direct benefit (like snatching some of their work force for some extra manpower for a month) then I'm happy with it.

There is no word from up-river, as yet, however it can be reasonably assumed that work on Chani's shrine continues apace.

Some of the tribe set out to poke around for tall plants, on the off-chance they could use them to make rope. Until now, the tribe has only tied lengths of animal sinew together, or used thin, green branches and the results have been... Less than spectacular. The find are likewise unimpressive, the reeds from the swamp upstream being unsuitable.

In Yeneth's name the tribe celebrates and makes merry, even as the snows of winter start to fall! The party after so long proves a great boon to the tribe's spirits, even with the lack of berry liqueur, given that no-one thought to gather the required berries that fall.

One day, late in the evening, the river almost seems to shine with light, casting eerie shadows over the village. Shortly thereafter, the workers return. Rina has decided to stay at the newly built shrine, serving her goddess. Chani seems very pleased with her new place of worship however!

> Can't remember if the tribe picked Hilde or Naveen as Yeneth's first priestess. Which we going for, the narcissist, or the lesbian?
Yeneth's priestess claims that the goddess likes beautiful things, particularly gifts that might be given between lovers. Practical things, such as tools, weapons or unadorned clothes have little meaning to Yeneth. She prefers things simply made 'just because'.

A small party, wrapped up thickly against the cold, prepare to leave the village to trade with the River Brothers.

> Will resolve trade after questions for Yeneth

Make your offerings to the goddess and ask your questions. Keep in mind, the goddess may not wish to linger and talk long.

> Finally, an actual question! Also, we're going with Naveen

Naveen accepts the offerings on behalf of her goddess and begins the incantations. It takes some time in solitude, but eventually, the goddess of love emerges from the shrine, looking somewhat ethereal and transparent, as though she were not truly there. She's dressed for winter as well, with thick furs around her. She accepts the offering s gratefully and agrees to answer a few questions.

"The humans that named me are quite a distance from here," she smiles, "Down the river and along the edge of the great sea. Even if she is a goddess of love, she is still a goddess and her upset is somewhat intimidating, "Some refused to heed me, or offered me nothing and so them, I pay no heed to, nor shall they have my blessings."

She looks as though she is ready to leave. It is likely you will only be able to ask a little more.

With that, Yeneth leaves, fading into nothingnesss.

That's really more of a cultural exchange than trading... Pfft; semantics. As there's no other suggestions, we'll go with this.

Shivering from the cold, several of the Wise Ones board a raft, armed with knowledge. They bring with them the work of over a week of dedicated carving; a large, wooden board with the history of the tribe and its gods inscribed upon it in pictograms.

They are warmly received by the River Brothers, especially by Trym's new in-laws. The Wolfsbane and his wife joined the expedition and are welcomed like family, the hospitality extending to the Wise Ones too.

Though there is some initial confusion at the idea of the ideograms, the River Brothers start to grasp it eagerly after a few days. The idea of gods though meets with more difficulties. For some reason, the elders of the River Brothers all agree to have as little to do with the gods as possible. They reason that they have come this far on their own and need no gods to watch out for them.

The party leaves after a time, having made some headway in teaching the idea of writing to the River Brothers, but culturally, they have made little headway.

EVENT
As the winter drags on, the snow starts to fall in unusually large quantities. Great drifts pile up against the walls, the roofs groan under the strain of supporting the white powder. Even setting foot outside a hut means pushing through snow lying nearly waist-deep! The situation reaches its worst when a young man who went to fetch firewood is found dead, only his hand unburied by a sudden fall of snow from the roof. To make matters worse, the few lookouts brave enough to sit out in the snow report seeing a shadowy figure moving at the edge of the treeline, even coming into the farms, only ever showing up when the snowfall is at its very thickest. The constant snowfall shows no sign of stopping soon and then one day... The village gate is found open, held wide by an inexplicably deep bank of snow.

We have found the god of death, the master of the ice and snow, the cold hand in the night. Darkness all encompassing.

Also, I saw we invest in researching snow shoes.

I just couldn't resist checking again

>They have come this far without gods
Haha, they nearly starved to death and would have been wiped out by the copper tribe if we didn't best them.

Again with the shadowy figures around the village! Okay then, see you next time Brit!

You have been hinting about something during winter I didn't know when it was going to hit us.
