I can't speak for anybody else, but for me it's about betrayal, and the other guy is just a means to that end, a way the woman in question can stick a knife in my back. So pluck is the opposite of propriety? I'm really even sure what those mean if it's a scale from one to the other. The gentle / bossy thing makes a bit more sense to me (though depending on how I try to envision the proper / plucky scale, there's more than a bit of overlap between them).

Princess threads always make me think of the Tethyr from the Forgotten Realms.
A place where Ed Greenwood mentioned that the royalty and nobility tend to be strict about no sex outside of wedlock, as are plenty of the people.
As a result the temples make a shit ton of money off of wedding contracts that only last a night, a weekend, a week, or until the following summer.

The reason the princesses make me think of it though, is due to it coming up when mentioning how it's not rare for a king or lord to promise his daughter to the adventurer who slays a dread beast, then readying a cleric with a regeneration spell, having a contract for a one night wedding, and then telling the daughter to deal with it for that one night.

I think it is more in relation to a Victorian standard of "proper" women. Back them, complacency and manners were the big deals for women to have. The real issue is that gentle and bossy are not the same spectrum, and specifically that bossiness is a "plucky" behaviour.

Actually, I think I just figured it out. Fantasy villains have a kidnapping fetish. I mean, sure they could just have their way with the princess, but that wouldn't really do it for them. The evil wizard would rather sit alone in his room and whack off thinking about how the princess is caged by cold iron bars. In fact, he probably puts on a nice fancy dress and imagines he is the poor, helpless princess, cruelly locked away in a dark dungeon where nobody will ever find her. Hell, he's a wizard. He probably kills off a princess, polymorphs himself into a replica of her, enslaves himself and waits for a brave knight to save him.

You could easily run it as a regular one-shot, for a group though. Having them help the Hero(es) advance through the doom fortress. Fuck up too many times and your hero will enter the final confrontation a little battered.

Bosscesses are by far the most atypical in terms of gameplay. Nobody is going to like you ever (at least in comparison to an equally competent non-bosscess) so most of your energy needs to go into fucking up your rivals (arranging to have someone kidnapped on the night of the ball, playing two princesses against each other and staying clear of the ensuing shitfest, etc) until your prince/loot pile/whatever has no choice but to end up with you.

Maxing Maids is generally not worth it, you should never need them at "will give up their life for you" loyalty(well, obedience), because that's what Princes and Knights are for. Better pump some more into other kinds of hirelings.

Here is another tip - let some rich bloke woo you with gifts for a while, postpone wedding as much as possible (your reputation will drop if you keed doing it but it's not like you should care), eventually he will attempt to impress you with some heroic act. Here comes the tricky part - promise him aid from your court and "ask for some time to assemble it", quickly hire some fresh green ruffians/hunters/whatever and sent 'em with him. Once he doesn't come back, play it nice for a while (mourn&show sympathy to his family), which gives you nice boost to reputation and - here comes the best part - you get to keep all the gifts! Got two mansions that way on last playthrough (and some small stuff, jewelery, animals, clothes, art items, you name it).
