Good evening once again, /tg/! I hope you're all feeling good tonight! It's time for the Civilization Quest again. Yep; we're still going, after thirty threads of this! I can't get over how great this is going and I owe it all to you folks. Give yourself a pat on the back and get ready to play! Who's here?

Previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21256972/

Let us begin!

I have returned!
>>
hello
>>
My anus is ready
>>
Aha, and in the last thread we prepared for war. So, I suggest we start focusing on getting ready for war in the future. The Lion Tribe is at least on board and I am sure we can convince the River Brothers once they meet the tribe.
>>
>>21287895
OR, or, better yet, we get some diplomacy going, and try to set up a trade network with the new tribe. See if we can maybe get a look at that silver. Maybe make some pretty necklaces and such for Yeneth or Chani.

As a reminder; no-one has ever bothered to gather from the flowering fruit tree glade that the tribe discovered. This reminder is only here because someone asked about it last thread. I wouldn't bring it up otherwise.

Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem

This, I'm sure what's his name will come around after we present the benefits of a united tribe to him. Maybe impress that even as a nation his tribe would retain its identity.

And for the love of god no slaves.
>>
>>21287975
I had an idea after last week, that maybe we could teach the lion tribe and the riverbrothers about writing, in our language. That way we could possibly start a letter/postal service of sorts- you know, send letter requests and invitations instead of sending a whole party down there. Might be useful. Though, for this turn, I'm going
H) Harvest them crops
H) Pick those flowering fruit trees
F) Continue construction on the large pen.
>>
>>21287934
If he is willing to join us then there is no need for war, but if he is not then we shall need to make him. We must simply show him the benefits of being united under the banner wolfsbane, and the consequences of not doing so.

B) Harvest those crops
B) Go gather from that glade
D) Do that thing I mentioned last thread where we give the Elders access to the forges and metal and just let them go hog wild. Basically we expend more material than normal on research for a more risky but possible reward.
>>
>>21288028
I like this idea, and we already finished the pen.

Seconding this one.
>>
>>21288070

im ok with this
>>
>>21288084
That's what I thought at first, but I'm not sure.

In between the great fishing and gathering expeditions, the tribe also sets to work, trying to construct a pen to house deer in. The end result looks like it will be almost as tall and robust as the village walls..! And just as laborious to construct.

So I'm not sure if we're finished, or still building. Britfag, care to shed some light on the situation?
>>
>>21287975
B) get crops
B) check the flowering glade then pick the fruit
The pen for the deer is done so

D) What spine snapper said
>>
>>21288128
Sorry. I should have been clearer; the pen is not yet finished, no. You'll need to put in another turn or two.

The Wise Ones (I really should make the distinction: Elders are not exclusively Wise Ones and Wise Ones are not all Elders) are given the run of the forges for the moon, but try as they might and despite more than a few risky experiments, they simply cannot improve on the tribe's pre-existing methods for working copper. The general consensus among the Wise Ones is that the metal is simply too soft. Even routine work quickly wares down tools and weapons and the only reason many of the tribes copper items are still functional are because the metal is soft enough to bend back into shape again.

The rest of the village busies itself by taking in the harvest and fetching fruit from the trees in the glade. There's a small selection, but most are a soft, teardrop-shaped fruit that is actually quite tasty. It certainly makes a nice change from the grains. Several of the tribe have actually been ill after trying to ingest them. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the bouts of vomiting or diarrhea and no lingering effects, but some people just can't stomach them well. Yet another time, they might (under duress) eat the grains again and suffer no ill effects.

The tribe sets to work on the pen for the deer again, this time managing to get the entire rudimentary structure built. For an animal pen, it is ridiculously high and strong, but it should do the job well!

A scout group sets out to explore the hills near the Lion Tribe. Despite vigorous and thorough searching, they are unable to find any new metals there, or any other source of copper. It seems the deposits near the Lion Tribe are the only ones nearby, though they should be sufficient for the tribe's needs.

A small group of the Wise Ones visit the Lion Tribe village with the proposal for a mailing system, but the idea is shot down almost immediately. The ideograms the tribes use are too cumbersome for any real correspondence, not enough of the tribes are interested in learning how to write and there is no real method of marking thing down, except charcoal on skins, which wastes a valuable resource and can very easily be lost to water damage or smudging, unless very carefully kept.

The bouts of illness from eating the harvest of grain continue, more of an annoyance than anything, but the sickness is unpleasant enough that no-one wants to eat the grain except when given no other choice.

Towards the end of the moon, storm clouds start to gather in the sky and thunder rolls out. Foul weather is nothing unusual, but for some reason, this storm sets everyone on edge. Tempers fray, the tribe keeps checking behind them as a feeling of unease creeps over everyone. The storm lasts nearly a full five days before abating, but the damage to everyone's spirits is done.

>>21289311
We could offer our writing, maybe? After all, it's not very dangerous to give something like this, it's not like we'd be giving military secrets.

Did the boy we sent to the other tribe ever return?

>>21289311
That is why I want to give them the jewelry.
>>
>>21289330
Possibly, though I'm not sure we should come there with just technology, as I said before, we don't know how advanced these people are yet, so maybe something like what Felix said before, jewelry, valuables.
>>
>>21289330
Only down side to that idea is that they probably do have a more sophisticated writing style, honestly. One of the first things that trade brings about is the need of some form or writing to log transactions, stocks, etc as well as measurements, I'd imagine.
>>
>>21289374
Kinda makes sense, since the dude seemed vain and all that.
>>
>>21289402
Hey, vain or not, we know they sure do like shiny things.

The deer pen was already fully constructed last moon. The tribe spends this moon tending to the cows and conducting a few repairs on their pen.

A small group from the village head out to the copper despots near the Lion Tribe, returning with a few cartloads of malachite ore, though no-one was happy about working so far from home in the cold.

Rina is upstream at this time of year, tending to the needs of her goddess. When the tribe asks for he help and expertise, she surprises everyone by refusing! She claims that her knowledge would be of little use with regards to the crops and that she has been neglecting Chani and her shrine far too much lately. She hopes the tribe understands and grants her this time for her goddess.

The Wise Ones do their best to figure out the reason the grain has been causing problems. The idea comes to them in a flash of inspiration - the grain itself isn't bad, it just hasn't been prepared properly, like trying to eat a nut still in the shell, or meat without cooking it properly. They don't know what the right way might be and consider it best if the tribe in general finds out, as their experimentation is simply too small-scale for such a range of possibilities.
>>
>>21289458
We need a morale boost.
>>
>>21289364
Funny you should mention Mikuhla

>>21289458
The winter snows now lying upon the ground, the village has a slightly un-expected visitor! Clad in her usual black skins and with the copper arrowhead still around her neck, her snow-white hair streaming behind her like a miniature blizzard, Khoine, the goddess of snow, pays a visit to the tribe. She seems concerned however and the reason for this is abruptly made clear. "Where is Mikuhla?"

How will the tribe respond?

B) Lie and say he's elsewhere
C) Lie and say he's gone
D) Refuse to say anything

we could try and wait out the winter for the festival with the other tribes. I remember when I first started we honored Hrunti and held a hunt for a hibernating bear.

>>21289510
We need to think about this before we answer being that mikuhla is the one that talked her down could this make her emotional again.
>>
>>21289522
Thirded.

"We know this won't be easy to accept, but as part of our bargain with the Sun Goddess Mikuhla had to travel and visit another tribe to learn their ways. He won't be gone for long, I assure you, but remember the embrace you two shared when first you met. How gentle and welcoming it was. The joy of finally being free to walk and talk amongst people who desire your friendship without hurting them. Were it not for the Sun Goddess and her necklace, which you still wear, none of it would have been possible. While it does not help the pain of your separation, know that you are still welcome here with open arms and that he will return before much longer and the two of you will be together again."
>>
>>21289624
I figured a little bit of fluff might make her not go into a rage and bring about a horrible blizzard again out of despair.
>>
>>21289624
I like it. That's some damn good fluff.
>>
>>21289624
> THIS kind of fluff is what I like to see! May not work, but still, this is the kind of stuff that can turn a potentially bad outcome into something good.

Khoine is shocked by the news of Mikuhla's departure and weeps bitterly at the news. Between her sobs, she chokes out that she didn't even get a chance to say goodbye. Without a shrine, it seems, she can only walk the land while there is snow on the ground. When no-one is able to tell her precisely when Mikuhla may return, she leaves in a hurry, running off into the wilderness as a slow, steady snow starts to fall on the village. The lookout at the top of the tower reports a great cloud of snow, howling like a blizzard, speeding away at a great pace. At a guess, the tribe presumes that Khoine has left to seek out Mikuhla.

> Technically, the grains would be a cultural thing, but I suppose it's not that obvious, so I'll let it slide.

After some intense experimentation, the tribe finally manages a way to make the grains palatable! It's laborious as anything, but first they need to be peeled of their skins, then mashed flat and allowed to dry. It takes a whole moon before this is hit upon, simply due to the time involved. Once they're ready, they can be boiled into a thick mixture that, while not particularly tasty, is perfectly edible.

With little else to do, a few of the tribe set to work making small trinkets from copper. The medallions they make and thread onto strings of animal sinew flash in the light and look very pretty, so are prized by the tribe.

Feeling sorry for Khoine, some others of the tribe take some of the stored wood and start to put together a rudimentary shrine for her within the village. Lacking the goddess herself however, or any priest to guide them, the building is little more than a small altar with a roof to keep the snow off. At least, due to its simple design, it is done within one moon.
