"Well, I wanted to ask what you thought about these dreams," you say uneasily. "I mean, do you think this means anything? Or do you think you might have an idea as to why this might be happening?"

Sora stares at you blankly. "I have no idea what this could mean, Anon-kun, and I don't honestly know why you think I would."

"Well, you're a writer," you explain. "You have imagination, so I thought..."

"That's something you need to realize," she says sternly. "I write fiction. Life and fiction are two completely different things. There are no real happy endings, there is no grand design, and there's no way a high school student could figure out why something bizarre would happen like this." She looks away from you and almost looks upset. "I'm leaving for now." With those few words, she vanishes from sight, leaving you isolated from everything in this featureless room.

"That was abrupt," you mumble to yourself. Some of what she says makes sense, though, and you mentally kick yourself for thinking otherwise. You don't agree with everything, though. If you did, life would be meaningless. You look around the room helplessly.

You decide to go ahead and get some good, uninterrupted sleep. The rest will do you good. You feel light and before you know it, you're opening your eyes to the sound of your alarm clock. 5:30 am. You glance over and see Miyuki already out of bed and turning off the alarm. "You awake?" she asks. When you nod, she says, "Then get up. We've got some work to do."

Over the next hour and a half, you proceed to do laps around the neighborhood and then start lifting some of the weights she provided you with. As you're nearing the end of your workout session, Miyuki heads upstairs to shower. Once you're all done, sweat covering your entire body, you see Miyuki stroll downstairs and nod to you to go take your shower, which you do with the utmost haste.

When you come downstairs after your shower, you see Miyuki made some eggs and toast for you, which you eat graciously. "So, what do you want to do after school?" Miyuki asks.

"Isn't it about time we helped Sayuri with the fesitval stuff?" you ask. "We're a week away, and we've all sort of blown her off. I feel really bad about it."

Miyuki sighs and nods. "Good point. We should probably do something for her after the festival, too."

There's a knock at the door, and then Chiyo steps into the house. "Morning," she calls.

"Morning," you call back. Chiyo walks up and sits down next to you. "What's up?" you ask.

"Not much. Just ready for today to be over already," Chiyo says.

"Me too," Miyuki adds. You feel your phone vibrate twice in your pocket. You pull it out to see you've got two text messages.

'The Narwhal bacons at midnight.' The text is from both Sora and Roslyn. Chiyo notices the curious look on your face, and pokes you on the nose. "What's got you looking like that?"

Chiyo frowns. "Alright," she says, "But let me know if it becomes something I should wory about." You nod, and she drops it.

Eventually, the three of you head to school and find yourselves back in home room. You see Roslyn sitting on her desk, glancing out the window. Sora is staring out the window as well, her pen in her hand. Sayuri is looking over her homework for math, which to your surprise, she finished on time. Chiyo is writing something on a sheet of paper, and Miyuki is staring at the ceiling. Homeroom is really a boring time.

You pop over to Sayuri's desk and sit down. "Checking over homework?" you ask.

"Yeah," she says. "I have to make sure I know what I'm doing so I can take more time out of my after school stuff to finish with the festival prep."

"About that," you say, "If you're working on the festival stuff after school, I want to help."

"Eh?"

"You've been working really hard on our stall, trying to make it the best you can. I don't know if you've had much help since you've started except for what little I've done, so I want to help take the load off your shoulders."

"Really?" she asks. "Because... I still have a lot to do, and I don't want to bother you with it..."

"I'm sure if we ask the others for help, they'd be willing to chip in, too," you add. "If not, I'll be glad to help as long as I need to."

"Thanks, Anon-kun." When the bell rings, everyone gets up and heads out to math, which goes by swimmingly. The class ends quickly, and you find yourself in history. Sora is already seated in her usual spot, so you head over towards her to sit down.

"Morning," you say as you take your seat.

"Good morning," she replies. The girl doesn't really even have to look your way to know it's you. She's writing again, you notice.

"With what?" she asks, glancing at you.

"I'm going to help Sayuri with our stall for the festival, since she's been the only one really working on it. I was hoping that if I can get more people to help, we could wrap this up even earlier."

"I'll think about it," she says curtly. "I'll let you know around lunch."

"Thanks." That's more than you expected to get from her, so you feel accomplished. History ends and you head into lab, where Miyuki is already waiting on you. "Hey hey."

"What's up?" MIyuki asks as she starts looking at the day's assignment.

"Not a lot. I just asked Sora for help with the stall after school."

"How did that go?" she inquires.

"Well, she said she'd tell me her response during lunch," you explain, "So there's that."

"Huh. Cool." The two of you work through lab and turn in your work, ready to go to lunch. "Where do you want to go to eat?" Miyuki asks.

"The roof is the safest bet," you say. "Everyone knows to meet up there."

"Alright. I'll go grab us some lunches, so go hang out for a bit, alright?" You nod, and the two of you depart from each other, Miyuki heading for the cafeteria and you for the roof.

When you arrive on the roof, it's completely devoid of activity, as usual. You walk over to the bench and sit down, letting the breeze sweep up and caress your face. You're thankful that most of the storm has passed, though the cold front is really moving in now. You glance around the roof and stand up again, unable to sit still. You really want to just do something, whatever that something may be.

When the door opens up from behind you, you turn and see Sora walk out of the doorway. "Oh, hi." You're caught of guard a bit by seeing her so soon, but you'll take it in place of not seeing her at all.

"I would like to stay after school to help," she says, almost mechanically, "But I cannot."

"Oh?" You don't want to pry, and before you can say that it's fine, Sora continues.

"Father has stated that I cannot stay out tonight, so I'm afraid I'll have to pass for today. Maybe I could help later next week, though." So she really is trying to interact with everyone.

"That's fine, really," you say with a wave of your hand. "We've got plenty of time before the festival to work, so we'll take a rain check."

"Thank you, Anon-kun." She turns to leave, though she looks hesitant.

"Sora," you say quickly, "Do you want to stay up here and have lunch with us?" She hesitates again, but turns around to face you. "I won't force you to, but I think everyone would like it if you hung out with us."

"..." She glances away for a second, but nods. "I need to get my lunch," she says a moment later. She turns and heads back downstairs, leaving you standing there alone.

You wander back around the roof for a bit, and the door opens once more, this time with Chiyo, Roslyn, and Sayuri walking up. "Hi hi~" Chiyo says.

"Where's Miyuki?" Roslyn asks.

"She went to buy our food," you reply.

"She's buying us all lunch!?" Sayuri exclaims.

"Hah, no, she's buying food for herself and for me," you explain.

"Oh..." Sayuri wilts a little bit, but perks up again as if nothing was wrong. "I hope we can get a lot done today," she says to you.

"Me too. Oh, that reminds me."

"What is it?" Sayuri asks.

"I asked Sora to help out, but she's unable today, so she might be able to help next week."

"Ohh~ that's nice of her."

The door opens yet again, this time with Miyuki standing there, holding two boxed lunches. "I'm back," she announces.

"Awesome, I was really getting hungry." Everyone sits down to eat, and once that's all said and done, you're left sitting on the bench while the girls chatter away. After lunch, you're all done for the day; that's the beauty of Saturday classes, after all.

You decide to sit back and let the girls talk for a bit. You glance at the door, but Sora never comes back, to your dismay. She doesn't seem to be the type to just ditch someone like this, so you're a bit put off by this turn of events. You pull your phone from your pocket and start to draft a text to her when it goes off in your hand. You check the message and, sure enough, it's from Sora.

'Sorry. Father came and picked me up before I could get my lunch. I guess I'll have to take a rain check for lunch as well.'

You frown, and Chiyo notices. "Are you alright, Anon-kun?"

"Yeah," you say distantly. "Just... fine."

"He's been texting Sora since yesterday," Miyuki says. You glare at her, and she just grins and shrugs. "He takes it seriously. I guess she talks more via text than in person."

"Well that makes sense," Roslyn says. "She loves writing, doesn't she? It's probably easier for her to convey her thoughts by writing them out instead of speaking them on the spot."

"I never thought of it that way," Miyuki says. "It makes perfect sense, though."

"What is Sora-chan like?" Sayuri asks. "I bet she's really cool."

"She's really polite," you say slowly. "Um, she definitely seems cool."

"I knew it!" Sayuri exclaims. "She always seemed so mysterious and cool."

"So is everything okay?" Chiyo asks. "I assume that text is from her."
