Fantasy civ-games are fun. So let's play a game. You know you want to. Pick a race!

Humans: Ambitious and social, humans are driven and willing to compromise when working with others. They are not very physically impressive however. +Construction and Social Changes -Physical capabilities, prone to disease

Elves: Predatory and ferocious, elves are strong, agile and quick-witted. They are, however, fierce individualists, fusing to work with people they dislike. They are also very blunt in conversation. +Physically impressive (Great warriors), Intelligent(quicker non-tech development) -Some may not follow instructions, carnivorous, aggressive
>>
>>21476257
Dwarves: Dwarves are resilient, industrious and hold craftsmanship as the pinnacle of achievement. They disdain short-cuts and sloppy work. Highly dedicated to their craft, they will often do nothing other than their chosen profession. +Construction, Equipment, Resilient, Arts - Simplification technology despised, Slow to accept any sort of change

Lizardfolk: Cunning, and patient, lizardfolk are careful warriors and builders. Caution and analytical skills are the typical traits of this race. Impulsive lizardfolk are very rare.
+ If there is an in-universe problem with an turn option, the GM will not it, Everything built is made to last -Slow to do anything, Declaring war requires direct threat
>>
>>21476399
Orcs: Strong, brutal and aggressive is how most people would define an orc. A rather straightforward race of rather limited intelligence but prodigious physical capabilities. +Physically impressive(Great warriors), Tough(Can go longer without food), Prolific
- Dim(All tech and architecture slightly less effective), Brutal(Violence within tribe likely)

Dwarves

Island

The Lost tribe of dwarves mythically descended from a clan of dwarves who weathered a great flood by building an ark and filling it with supplies and animals. Shipwrecked on an island far off the coast, they built their city at the base of a tall smoldering mountain thinking themselves the last survivors of the Great Flood.

Post apocalyptic is fine. But think more on the lines of Atlantis than 30th century New York.

We are finished. The tribe is doomed. If only we had had some kind of warning!
The grey clan had been passing through the bone forest, hoping the shorten the journey to the Great Gathering of the tribes. We ignored the warnings, and we paid the price. It was only a few hours within the forest that the attack began. Out of nowhere, and arrow suddenly appeared in the Chief's jugular. Needless to say he fell down dead. Our chieftain's body hitting the ground signalled the opening of the gates of hell. Fierce, howling figures pounced on our kin from the trees as more were cut down by unearthly arrow fire. We fled. We ran until dawn broke the next day. There were only a fraction of our number remaining and while some held hope that more of us may have survived, none dared to return to the forest. The remaining tribesmen have just unanimously refused to return to the forest.

Recovering from the shock of the raid, the tribal remnants investigate the land that is now their prison. It becomes evident after even a cursory gland that they stand within the ruins of a massive city. Broken stone and partial monuments litter the valley within which you have retreated. You could not begin to guess the age of the ruins and the stone is unfamiliar to you, but the sight of this crumbling metropolis is ,somehow, inspiring. (OOC: Roman construction)

Xtreme exploration
The tribe begin to wonder if they might settle these ruins permanently. The idea certainly appeals to a plurality of the tribesmen. However, in order for the Grey to settle here permanently they would need a source of water and so far they had found none. Therefore, it is with hope in their hearts that scouts depart from the camp to scour the area in hopes of finding water. They get lucky. Very lucky. After stumbling across a small stream, the scouting party decides to follow it in hopes of it widening further along. What they find is much better. A magnificent, crystal clear, lake that happens to contain the best-tasting water the scouts have ever drank. The scouts were a bit hyperbolic in their reports, however, as they seemed to believe the water actually glowed.

The Grey tribe elects to move into the ruins themselves. The voices reported by the scouts sparking fear anew in their hearts. Tragically, though, just as a large group of tribesmen were finishing the renovations of what would have been a magnificent communal hall, a structurally challenged tribesman decided to knock down one of the supporting pillars. The resulting collapse took the lives of everyone inside. The food shortage is no longer an issue.

>>21478556
Tie smaller pieces of stone to sticks with leather strips?
>>
>>21478556
OP how can we have flint spears without stone axes? The first axe was literally a very large rock, one end was rounded to you could hold it, the other was pointy. Inefficient, yes. But effective at chopping wood. The arrowhead or spearhead would be made by taking several large pieces of stone, breaking them, taking the razor sharp remnants and working them over with carefully shaped pieces of stone (this is basically what knapping is..or however it's spelled.) When you gave us flint spearheads you gave us very primative stone working skills.

Basically we go into the ruins, grab some stone, pile it up around our stone huts. It's not much but it's better than nothing.

If this won't work -shrug-

I'll back the stone working tools.
>>
>>21478630
Do you to attempt construction with these tools?
>>
>>21478655
The thing is, you can tie a rock to a stick, but you need a specific king of rock to have a sharp edge. You HAD flint axes but you lost them in the massacre. You don't lack the knowledge, you lack the materials. I RNG'd what you had left after the rout before making the first turn report. I rolled somewhat low. I'd like to stress that you do indeed know HOW to make a lot of stone tools.
>>
>>21478662

We're going to have a hard winter so we try to weather it out and find a way to build better stone-pile homes.

>>
Consensus better houses?
>>
>>21478692

Also, what i vaguely remember from my anthro class is that during the paleolithic and mezolithic (so before settlling down) everybody pretty much knew how to work stone in order to survive. They didn't have like a dedicated stone worker or the like. THat came a bit later.
>>
>>21478692
OK OP You really should stress stuff like this right at the beginning. That way its less "You don't know how to make stone axes" more "You don't have the material to make stone axes." Which is perfectly fine, I understand the need for specific kinds of stone to make speicifc kinds of items.

Switch my vote over to tech then.

and yeah, you have a point stone axes would be fairly useless for stone working materials. We have a ruined city...there's gotta be a box of stone working tools lying around somewhere...
>>
>>21478726

>>
>>21478817
mildly ominous yes, but I like to think that each of the stones has an iconograph related to a spirit, like a wolf, or a puma, or a bear, or a boar, or a deer...

you know, a cairn made of blessed stones. Maybe covered in mud with wildflower seeds sprinkled in to prettify it.
>>
Construction, build better houses
The first roll this turn was...3
It is very cold in the valley this winter and the Grey tribe decide that living in stone tombs is cold and depressing so they unanimously decide to improve their housing conditions. An attempt is made to cover the stone tents with hides but a shortage is reached with only half the dwellings covered. The covered cairns are installed in a circle around a fire pit which burns constantly. It is not magic and must be fed, but the tribe would have all perished without it. Most of the displaced tribesmen manage to share the new homes. One chucklefuck goes to live in a tent down by the lake. All things considered, winter sucked for the Grey tribe.
March is here.

5) As the winter frost begins to fade, Wuld calls for a great feast to be held in honour of the spirits who safeguarded them throughout the winter. The feast is, naturally, for the spirits. While the tribe does not deprive itself during the festivities, a significant amount of food is sacrificed to the flames. When the Grey tribe wakes up the following morning, they come to the realisation that they MAY have burned a slightly excessive amount of food.

Fishing in the lake
The first roll of the run is...20
In light of their almost emptied stores, a plurality of the Greymen head out to the lake to fish. The results are disappointing as while they catch enough fish keep themselves alive, their food situation is the same as at was before the expedition.

Fishing!
The first roll of the turn is...62 (Finally)
The second expedition is significantly more successful than the first. The Greymen catch large quantities of fish which allows them to expand their stores significantly while they dine on fishy meats. Many fishermen claim to have seen an ethereal-looking hand coming out of the water.

Why do you assume that it will react positively to sacrificing animals in its name, whatever it is?
What if it is a nature spirit that abhors useless killing of animals and destruction of vegetation?

How about we learn what it is first before doing something potentially stupid?
>>
Explore, find some resources
The first roll of the turn is...41
Thin clothes, no tools and cold houses will motivate any man to improve his situation. Therefore, a notable quantity of scouts set out in search of what resources might be available near the camp. Luckily, a notable quantity of flint is found and the Grey can now produce flint tools again! Unfortunately, the search for large game is less successful and the scouts note a total absence of animals large than a fox in the vicinity. Lots of rabbits though.

Harvest some rabbits and get the rest to leave
The roll was...99
Wuld frantically retreats to the lake to avoid the swarm of rabbits. While he does feel somewhat silly to be running from rabbits, he does not look back. When he arrives to the lakes' edge he spots something coming out of the water 30 feet out. Inching closer it seems to be a long knife of some sort. On impulse, he grabs the impressive knife. The instant he grabs the handle of the blade, all fear leaves his heart. He knows what he must do. Encouraged by near otherworldly determination, he rallies the panicking Greymen. The tribe reunites at the lake and begins preparations to take back their lands. They charge. The ferocity of their assault is stunning! For a night ,it is a though they were not men, but great spirits. The rabbits scatter and the Greymen have taken back their home from the lapine menace. They also vowed to never speak of this again. (So you guys got expy Excalibur...that's what that 100 way bakc when got you by the way)

Well, like I explained earlier in the thread, rolling a 1 or a 100 bends reality. That fairy lake with the magic sword was not there before someone rolled a 100. A normal crit would have resulted in a large, wide river filled with fish that happened to have an intact stone bridge across it.
