You are Sonia Reynard, Attack Wing Leader and Knight of the House of Jerik-Dremine! Last time you returned to the Yineput system along side the Terran fleet, once again taking the helm of your starship the EX-K.

A short but fierce fight alongside the Republic forces secured the Heavy Cruiser dockyards allowing cloaked Krath ships to bring in crews House Helios had rescued. Follow up fighting to hold the yards badly damaged your ship, forcing you to seek repairs with the Carrier Akagi.

Once again repaired you and Daska spent three hours helping allied forces defend the boarding teams as they reclaimed docked starships. With the arrival of a friendly Heavy Cruiser you moved on to the main battle now slowly drifting towards Yineput III. Using the superior speed and forward firepower attack ships are known for you linked up with each of the squadrons in your Wing and began hunting enemy Corvettes.

Numerous corvette units were crippled or forced to scatter because of the Third Attack Wing adding to the already confused state of things. For the moment the battle remains an enormous mess of ships from either side unable to properly form up. In theory this should favour your side as the newly launched ships, lacking Knights and officers in many cases, still need time to form a cohesive fighting force.

Between the heavy fighting and damage sustained from starfighter launched torpedoes the Wing has become split up once again. Mike has returned to his ship which is still fighting in the main engagement along side most of the House Jerik-Dremine Fleet. Roughly a third of your ships are docked with or waiting for repairs from the Terran Heavy Carrier Akagi.

With the long wait times for repairs you've decided to head off with the most recently damaged ships from your Wing to see about getting repairs from the Terran main fleet.

Dropping out of FTL at the edges of the L4 Lagrange point in time to see a Kilo class medium cruiser being torn to shreds by heavy phase cannon and plasma fire. TCS Normandy is currently engaged with a number of Lat'tham starships trying to reach the rest of the Terran fleet. Sensors show that the six Rovinar Super capitals have been crippled but so have three of the Terran ships.

"Cornwall, Loreto and Macedon have lost most of their sublight engines but they still have plenty of weapons remaining." says Arron. "Enterprise is hanging back with the Normandy. It doesn't look like they've been hit."
>>
That was fun. Gotta admit, the causulty ratio was on our side
>>
You contact Enterprise to see if they have room to repair your ships.

"We've lost half our Assault Corvettes so yes we have room. Normandy also has some repair docks but her captain wont open a hole in their shields while enemies are present. Speaking which, could you help deal with some of the small fry that are harassing us? That super heavy can throw out a lot of fire but they're tying to focus on the larger craft."

Your order/tactics?
Keep in mind that some of your damaged ships cant keep up as well.

Also, roll 1d20

what a lovely roll to start the thread.
>>
>>21566998
Split into two elements and do the old hammer and anvil routine with the ships that can go fast driving the enemy into the slower group's fire.
>>
"Lets clear out some ships so that we don't have to worry about being shot in the back while docking. Keep clear of anything with torpedo launchers. Slowest ships tale the lead we'll form up on you."

Swinging out wide, the squadron angles for some of the corvettes that are firing from maximum range. You start with single corvettes destroying or disabling four with little retaliation. Your ships might be damaged but their combined fire is still a serious threat.

Against your previous orders you cripple a pair of Frigates, risking the chance the might have Sp torps on board. Thankfully they seem to be freight versions with only light phase cannon for weapons. A trio of attack corvettes put up more of a fight forcing the unit to rotate positions and bring ships with tougher shields into the line of fire. Fire from your attack Frigates disable their shields long enough for the rest of you to land some hits.

"Looking good people. Lets set up to dock with the Enterprise, the remaining cruisers cant seem to dodge fire from the Normandy."

As you close on the one carrier, throwing out fire at some of the other ships still within range, a trio of Assault Corvettes cut in line.

"I don't believe it, they don't have a scratch on them and they're trying to get repairs first." Complains Alex.
"Receiving targeting data from Enterprise.. those are enemies!"
>>
“All ships alpha strike on my mark, don't let them fire their torpedoes!” You shout over the com. “ThreeTwoOneMARK!”
Fire from the EX-K and four Frigates converge on the left most Corvette, damaging its shields and destroying one of its overpowered fusion drives sending out of control. The follow up volley destroys the central sections of the ship sending the bow and starboard engine spiralling off in different directions.
Everyone else seems to have hit their targets before they could launch as well.

“Thanks for the assist Dominion ships. We couldn't hit them ourselves for risk they’d fire.” Explains the Carriers traffic controller.
“Take up parking orbits, we’ll tow you in for repairs.”
>>
With the least damaged ship you’re slated to be towed in last. It gives you a chance to look over the state of the situation in the system. An hour later you receive a message from Knight Captain Saputo informing you that the House Command ship has been crippled and they were forced to abandon ship. Still, the battle is going strong with no sign of either having the upper hand.

House Helios is still fighting hard around Yineput IV. They must have recovered most of the prisoners being held there by now and half of all the newly launched ships the boarding teams are recovering are headed their way to assist and recover more personnel.

Even with hundreds of ships being re-crewed every hour the Expeditionary fleet is still cut off, operating behind enemy lines without supplies or refit yards save what was brought with them. Unless the fighting can be ended soon the lack of resupply alone will drag down the jumbled but otherwise superior fleet.

Over the next two hours you receive communications from Terran, Krath and House Helios fleets looking for spare ships or troops.

Royal Logistics Corps
-Supply Base: House Lat'tham kept much of their logistics decentralized using modular stations that could be repacked and moved in a day or two. Find some of these bases and take enough to begin easing the supply strain on the fleet. Munitions such as Torpedoes and Missiles are essential to maintaining the offensive, as are fusion fuel stores.

Royal Logistics Corps
-Shipyard: Scout ships have found a base that would be ideal for conducting repairs to the fleet. A civilian cargo transfer platform built two centuries ago, it was converted for military use by House Lat'tham. Large enough to repair our medium cruisers yet not as heavily armed as purpose built stations this looks to be the best candidate on the list.

Krath Taskforce
House Lat'tham has abandoned their previously organized plan for taking ships and are now throwing the smallest skeleton crews possible into corvettes and light cruisers. Help transfer repatriated crews back to their ships to cut down on the number of vessels the enemy can steal.

Once more unto the breach
Help in the fleet engagement drifting towards Yineput III. This battle is drawing away ships that might otherwise be harassing our boarding operations.

Yineput III Defense Net
Dozens of orbital defense platforms and their weapon satellites orbit the House Lat'tham capital world. If enough of them could be removed it could allow teams to more safely damage the planetary shield and assault the surface.

Off With Their Head
The Terrans have proposed a direct strike on what they believe to be the House Lat'tham command center. With the intelligence data used by other Houses found to be inaccurate at best since it was provided by Lat'tham, this site is now the most likely. Strike teams will inserted via drop pods following a kinetic bombardment. Projected odds of survival for the drop teams is low.

They’re all a pressing concern. Most of the recaptured ships have some ammo on them so that problem can solve itself in the short term.
More repairs would help with the lack of ships problem, likewise throwing more ships at the problem could work too if more could be captured.

If we can ship in more ships we can negate the ammo problem as long as new ships keep streaming in.

While waiting for repairs you briefly look at the proposed planetary assault mission. Even if your armor was fixed you’d think twice about taking that one on.
“Any word on our ship crews that are still missing?”

“Not yet but there are personnel from several thousand ships still unaccounted for.” Answers Kavos.

Getting the crews back to their ships is important but if there’s nothing for anyone to fire this fight will be a tough one.
“Contact the Logistics Corps, we’ll be going out to capture a station or two for them once we’re done repairs.”

Your coms officer gets to work while Kavos brings up some more displays.

Five hours after arriving at the Terran fleet enough basic repairs have been completed to allow you back into action. When the EX-K is launched clear of the carrier you see that the rest of the Wing has assembled nearby. Even your two surviving Escort Carriers are present, looking a little rough around the edges. Apparently the other ships were able to get some minimal repair work done by Akagi.

You request a status report and found out that minimal would be a good way of classing the repair work. Your ships can fly and they can fight but taking SP torpedo hits is something the majority cant do right now.

“We’ve reformed into our original squadrons sir if that’s alright with you.” Says Arthur over the command channel. “We figured you could help out Fourth Squadron as they’re still a bit light, unless you wanted to split them between the other three squadrons.”

Before you can answer coms informs you that both the Knight Commander and Katherine Drake have been found. She hasnt been told about her ship yet.

The two Escort Carriers have a mix of your surviving fighters and those from other units bringing them nearly to four squadrons each, mostly interceptors.

There are ships assisting them, they were looking for more.

With House Helios as the de facto head of Dominion Forces in the system one of their fleet coordinators informs you that Frigate squadrons from other Houses will be available to secure stations you’ve captured.
“Force their surrender or suppress the station defenses. Once you’ve done that call in the Frigates and they’ll handle boarding. Be advised, there are Royal Guard Cruisers in some of the other systems and House Lat’tham is attempting to launch Terran Assault Corvettes for added confusion.”

After taking up position with 4th squadron you signal the Wing.
"Lets move people."

Moving out away from the Lagrange point you spot a Rovinar Heavy Cruiser starting to move again. “I sure hope that’s ours.” you mutter as the fleet jumps to FTL.
>>
The Third Attack Wing drops out of FTL at the edges of a fairly unremarkable system a few dozen light years away, located just off the trade route to the Nav relay station.

“Red dwarf system, one barely habitable low gravity world. No belt, below average size gas giant.”

“This place is underwhelming.” You comment.

“I think that’s the point.” Says Linda. “The gravity of the Gas giant would be low enough to make Fusion fuel cheap.”

The logistics base is in low orbit of the inhabited planet. Even from the edges of the system its easy for sensors to spot cargo modules in nearby parking orbits. There is one Cruiser Squadron and twenty Molly class freighters docked. Two attack corvette squadrons, four standard corvette squadrons and one Carrier are present patrolling the station.

“Any orbital defenses?” You ask Arron.
“None. But there are cargo mass drivers on the surface for launching equipment into orbit.”

“Target the Cruisers and the Carrier on the initial attack. Escort Carriers launch your fighters as soon as we drop in then get ready to bug out. Once the Cruisers are finished break by squadron and engage the corvettes.”

The micro jump into the system takes the usual fraction of a second, the gravity well of the planet dragging you back into real space. Angling towards the planet you spot the station and its nearby defenders. Ships on both sides open fire, phase cannon beams filling space. A lot of the fire is being concentrated on second and third squadron.

The Carrier must have been upgraded because your initial phase cannon barrage fail to down them. When the torpedoes arrive at last its enough to knock down the defenses. Weapon fire punches holes along her port side landing crippling blows but not enough to completely destroy her.

Even as the Wing starts to land fire on the cruisers a few of them begin to undock, raising their shields.
“Don't hold back on the missiles and torpedoes!”

Focused fire destroys three of the Light Cruisers that had already gotten clear and disables another three at dock before the remainder begin to return fire. Two more are killed before the Wing is forced to break off to avoid the station itself. First squadron swings around in close to engage the remaining cruisers with pulse cannons.

“This is Third squadron, we need cover fire.” Requests Arthur. As you bring the 4th around you see why. Two Attack Corvette squadrons are on them.

Twin linked phase cannon fire begins to penetrate the shields of third squadron even as you line up to fire at their pursuers.
“Pour on the speed third!” You tell them, doing the same yourself.

Your squadron manages to kill a few of the corvettes in the head to head despite their maneuvering. Enough of the others are forced to break off to reduce 3rd’s pursuers to a single squadron. Second squadron attempts to smash through the flank of the standard corvette squadrons but get bogged down by the superior numbers.

“Any starfighters equipped with torpedoes try to help cover third.” you order then switch to Squadron Channel. “Forth squadron, break by flights.” Each of the three ship elements split off in different directions to hunt down individual corvettes. You roll hard and kick in the afterburners to get into position behind a nearby attack corvette.

One of the remaining cruisers rounds the station followed closely by four attack cruisers whose rapid fire soon disables the ship.
“This is first, we’re moving to assist third.” reports Edah.

“Copy that. Feel free to break by flights everyone.”

Nuclear explosions blanket one area of the battlefield as Arthur starts to rapid fire the missile launchers on his Vengeance type. Most of his cruisers, while fast enough, will never out turn a corvette and hes trying to buy time.

As First and Forth squadrons charge to the rescue the battle turns into small scale version of the melee back in Yineput. While this might be to Second and Third Squadrons advantage, on the whole its a bad thing.

You blast a corvette off Arthur’s tail as he finally gets one under his guns, rapid firing the four heavy pulse cannons and blasting a pair of corvettes into nothingness. The Starfighters are doing their part too, the handfull of attack bombers still counted among your compliment launching torpedoes at ideal moments.

>This is our chance to do really poorly!
It really is.

“Anyone that can break clear go after those fleeing corvettes, everyone else keep killing standards until they surrender.”

You turn and burn, avoiding a few near colisions and breaking free of the main dogfight. Biran Edah, Mike and Vaughn and the only ones to fight their way through. Even with combined fire there’s no way to kill them all before they jump. That still doesnt stop all of you from trying as had as you can.

The Escort Carriers who had been hanging just outside the gravity well to recover fighters, micro jump out after noticing the incoming ships.

By the time the main body of corvettes jump out your unit has managed disable or destroy 11 ships out of the two squadrons.

“Dammit, nearly a full squadron escaped!” complains Mike.

“It would have been a full squadron if we hadnt knocked some off earlier.” points out the First Squadron leader.

“Most of the remaining corvettes are surrendering.” coms informs you.

Swinging back towards the rest of the Wing you contact Arthur. “What’s your damage like?”

“We mostly took hits to the aft and sublight drives. My cruiser could probably keep up even with the engine damage. Our Marauder is not in good shape though. It’s just too big a target to miss, I still cant believe command didnt reclass it as a battlecruiser and throw more armor on it. Anyways, I’m looking at four or five ships out of action. One of my corvettes lost an engine and took a lot of superstructure damage so its likely a write off.”

Wonderful.

Twenty minutes of holding the space around the station and threatening to drop rocks on the ground side facilities is all that it takes for the Frigates to arrive. They request that you remain long enough for more friendly ships to be assigned.

After Marines secure the station your more damaged ships are towed in to make use of the minimal repair systems present. Its enough to patch up Arthur’s ship and fix some minor holes but everyone else with damage will need a real shipyard or days at a time in dock.

Two hours later a damaged and incomplete Light Cruiser squadron arrives in system followed by a flight each of Frigates and corvettes. Only a pair of them have IFF’s from the same House.

A haggered looking Knight Lieutenant contacts you while still at the edges of the system.
“Helios directed us to this system, is it true you found munitions?”

“From what we can tell, yes, though I gather the Marines have been more interested in making sure the station isn't rigged to blow.” You respond truthfully. “It should be possible to carry out minor repairs here as well.”

“Thank you, That is the most good news anyone has given me in days.”

Your squadrons and the other ships eventually take on some supplies. Six of the Frigates head to the surface to secure the mass drivers. It isn't until another friendly corvette unit drops into the system that you’re satisfied they stand a chance of holding the base.

“Escort Carriers reporting they’ve recovered all remaining fighters. The rescue shuttles also managed to drag back some Z5 wrecks that might be salvageable.” reports coms as the Wing forms up to leave the system.

“How many did we lose?” you ask.

“Nearly a dozen.” replies Kavos. “We are down fifteen from the full compliment now, as long as we don’t count those missing from the rest of our ships.”

The next jump brings the Wing near the position House Helios had been pinned down. There’s still plenty of enemy activity in the surrounding sectors.

Dropping out at the 'edge' of the system is a difficult task.

“Its a Binary system with a pair of Blue stars orbiting more than 100 AU apart, each with its own orbiting bodies. One of the stars, Gentris Beta, has one planet in the habitable range colonized shortly after its discovery before the Faction Wars. Population 3 Billion.
The shipyard is stationed at the trailing Lagrange point behind the planet’s larger moon.
The fifth, seventh and eighth planets are gas giants. Most have some infrastructure but the majority is concentrated on the fifth.”

“What about Gentris Alpha?” You ask, pointing at the other star in the system.

“A few airless planetoids and two gas giants. There’s some small scale mining operations and maybe some corvette grade shipyards. I cant get clear readings on any ships they have there because of our position, but they could micro jump to the main shipyard in fractions of a second.”
>>
You magnify the sensor image of the circular station in orbit of Gentris Beta IV. While it may look like a Nav relay station with the same wheel and spoke configuration, the construction records intel provided you with show its isn't nearly as sturdy.

Kavos starts to look through the readings as well. “Exodus fleet systems. They do not normally take civilian contracts outside of the Navigators Guild.”

“I don't think this was for House Lat’tham at the time.” Says Arron. “It masses a third less than a relay station. Looks like most of it is hollow to make room for cargo, or you know construction equipment.”

“Weapons compliment?”

“Its forty kilometers across, its still a big station. One hundred and twenty heavy phase cannon on the outer ring. There’s a set of Torpedo batteries that circle part of the inner axle both above and below the plane of the outer ring. Eighty torpedo launchers between the two of them. Not very much point defense but it is there.”

Kavos points to the display. ”If we could disable enough of the phase cannon along one section of the outer ring it would allow us to get ships inside.”
You spot the two real problems associated with that plan. First the shields on the station, second the swarms of starships defending it.
“What sort of ship numbers are you seeing?”

“Easily one hundred corvettes but the thing is a lot of them are damaged. I think this is where their salvage teams are towing remains of the ships lost fighting the Helios fleet earlier.”

Linda pipes up. “There is a lot of FTL traffic nearby. That could be why.”

You wish intel had mentioned how heavily defended the station was.

We need a carrier or carrier squadron with lots of SP-Torpedo Bombers, possibly a light cruiser squadron or frigatte wing to shield the carriers. If we can do enough damage in the first attack we ought be able to do this.

We've attacked a station before in this campaign, and SP Torps have been immensely useful there.
>>
>>21576377
[X] Other

Pulling to many Carriers and Frigates off the line may jeopardize fighter coverage and frigate picket lines in a section. And we probably would need Cruisers against this. Hell if the Helios siege ships are available it could work. Hammer em from afar.

But right now I dont think we can take on Corvettes of this number with just our wing alone. Especially since this is a repair yard. They will pull ships off the line to defend. They can afford this, we cant.

I suggest going back into the fray, clear out ships and come back with additional support that can be spared. Preferably with cruisers.
>>
I vote we grab backup. Preferably something that can keep up with us.
>>
>>21577320
Well, if we manage to get 3 or so carriers in here they are as good as dead, especially if we can surprise them. Corvettes usually have no point defense and the station itself has been stated to lack PD too. With luck we can cripple half of the Corvettes in the first attack run.

You contact the Terrans and let them know you’ll need some SP torps to help take control of the shipyard. Possibly enough to equip several starfighter squadrons. They’re reluctant to provide so many with their reserves dwindling but do agree to get you some.
Helios is unhappy with the request for Carriers but do admit they were expecting it.
“We’re crewing a pair of Carriers right now and will send them your way once they’re combat ready. What else do you need? We have damaged Corvette and Cruiser units that are willing to risk combat if it gets them repairs.”

“Let me get back to you.” you turn your chair. “Kavos, how much would you recommend?”

“Well, we should get at least 4 more Attack Corvette squadrons so we can go head to head with their own, with the Carriers... Perhaps another cruiser squadron? That would be the minimum. We do not have clear readings on what they still have docked after all.”

>What do you want in addition to the 2 Carriers? Keep in mind a third will take a couple of hours more.
>>
>>21579646
a corvette squadron to escort the carriers, along with a cruiser squadron to provide backup, screened by another corvette squadron.
>>
>>21579682
Everyone else ok with this? Going to wait for at least 1 more person to comment.
>>
>>21579796
Hmmm, that are 2 corvette squadrons less than Kavos recommends. I'm really not sure about it, guess it would largely depend on what types of starfighters we'll get with those carriers.
>>
>>21579820
Well, we are getting the cruisers that Kavos said would be the minimum. I second >>21579682, though i'd recommend leaving the carriers farther of the battle line and using the 2 corvette and the cruiser squadron to attack instead of guarding the carriers.
>>

>>

>>
>>21579987
Change my vote from the carriers, 2 corvettes and cruisers to what kavos wants to get this going... Don't want to have another survey monkey up. The worst that can happen is that we dont get them.
>>
An hour later the backup you requested arrives. You do a double take upon seeing them then check your sensors. Half of the corvettes that were sent are Standards, not Attack Corvettes.

“Wait, what’s going on? We requested Attack Corvette squadrons.”

“We’re what was available.” replies one of the Squadron leaders.
You curse your luck and wait to see what the Terrans have brought.

A Battlecruiser, the TCS São Gabriel, drops out of FTL a few thousand km away and hails you.
“Dominion ships, we were told you needed some Torpedoes to crack an installation?”

“That’s right. A ship yard so we can stop clogging up your Heavy Carrier bays every few minutes.”

The Battlecruiser has been assigned to assist both with her own compliment of weaponry and the delivery for your fleet. 60 SP Torpedoes of varying make and model are shuttled over to the Carriers.

"Damn. Is 60 going to be enough?" Asks Arthur.

Targeting priority: With only a limited stockpile of SP's you'll have to decide what to spend them on. Your fighters can reload with conventional torpedoes after returning to their carriers.

>>
>>21580182
>[X] Station inner defenses (Torpedo batteries)
This should reduce the station's engagement range by a lot, allowing our damaged ships to withdraw to a safe distance more easily.
>>
>>21580182
I think they should focus on the Torpedo batteries, and if they are destroyed and they have any SPs left go for the corvettes since if i remember right most standard corvettes crumble when hit by a SP.
>>
“Starfighters, you’ll be concentrating on taking out the station torpedo launchers. Interceptors you’ll be covering them. Any remaining attack bombers will be helping us deal with the corvettes and other starships that move to engage us. All starships we’ll engage enemy corvettes, and any other ships they might launch.”

The Captain of the São Gabriel speaks up. “We have a few torpedoes left for our own Launchers. We could hit a few of the outer defenses to open a hole your boarding teams could use later.”

>Yes/No?

Also, what is your plan of attack for dealing with the enemy starships? Try to draw them out from the station, get in close, something else?

Roll 2d100
>>
>>21580182
We should focus on inner torpedo batteries, however we can do so only at close range or risk the enemy plinking them out of the sky

Could we microjump right around them and prioritise any defences we can line up? If we can get close enough we should take most the defences without allowing the long range pd and its overlapping fields of fire to take out ripple fired torp trios.

It is going to be a mess afterwards with any potential surviving defences and the enemy corvettes swarming about but we are heavier and should be able to disperse them, while we take out surviving heavy defences.

At the same time we can blockade enemy corvettes from entering the repair shops.
>>
>>21580398
I like letting the Sao Gabriel hit the outer defences. Will help a lot.

I think we should at least try to draw the corvettes from the station so the bomber wings have a easier time disabling those torpedo batteries. We could really use a Krath ship now.

“The plan is to draw the enemy out and try to engage them outside the effective range of the station’s heavy phase cannon.” You inform the fleet.

“Those guns have awfully long range sir, are you sure that’s a good idea?” Asks Edah.

“Its safer than getting inside the station ring only to find out there are a hundred more ships with their weapons sticking out at us.” You point out.

“True.” The other pilot admits.

The fleet carriers micro jump to the edge of what should be the maximum effective range of the station guns and begin launching fighters. Once they’ve finished unloading the Carriers turn hard and jump back out again.

“Fighters approaching torpedo range now.” Reports Arron.

The rest of the fleet jumps in this time and opens fire on the nearest corvette patrol who turn to engage.

“Six corvette squadrons have changed course to intercept, more may be launching.”

“Keep up the steady fire.” You urge everyone.

The SP torpedoes launched by the starfighters arrive a few seconds later. The space around the station batteries light up with explosions. When the blasts clear only half of the weapons systems have been destroyed.
>>
Arron looks over to you. “Squadrons of Standard Corvettes intercepted the some of the torpedoes. We only have the six to deal with right now but we’ll be taking torpedo bombardments every so often.”

“Perfect. This is Reynard, everyone save your missiles for blinding the incoming torp barrage.”

The starfighters try to stay clear of the station point defenses, taking a roundabout route to return to the fleet. All remaining fighters launch from the Escort Carriers and move to attack the incoming corvette force.

Most of your ships try to target the Attack Corvettes mixed in among the standards. Tricky business for the most part given that they tend to have better pilots and emergency thrusters.

São Gabriel cripples or kills four corvettes with a single torpedo salvo, at which point the others slow their advance, waiting for more ships to launch from the station.

“Full attack before they change their mind and retreat.” The Third wing, which had been backing away slowly, pushes forward catching a few of the lesser corvettes by surprise and causing their formation to break.

Before you can exploit this though the enemy torpedo barrage arrives. “Missiles!”

You launch a pair of nukes at the last second then wait for the explosion before hitting the emergency thrusters. One torp manages to connect with your shield but its a hit you easily shrug off. Definitely not SP Torp equipped.
>>
Between the fire from your starships and the fighters the Corvettes have suggered more than fifty percent casualties by the time they turn and run for the cover of the station.

“New contacts.” Arron calls out, “Eight Lights Cruisers and twenty more attack corvettes all in various states of repair. They’re not moving away from the station.”

In the confusion for the enemy retreat Gabriel is able to land a few SP hits on the station outer ring disabling four of the heavy phase cannon emplacements. She’s forced to break off though when the station starts to concentrate most of their weapons fire on the battlecruiser. Arthur and his wingman cover the Terran ship, using missile fire to blind the torps long enough for it maneuver. Her Emergency thrusters not being nearly as effective as on your attack cruisers.

“They’re pulling back inside the station shield, we’re going to have a hard time hitting them with conventional weapons.” Says Alex.

“Not necessarily. If we concentrate fire we could punch a hole through a section of their shield. ” Points out Daska. "We could either try to disable a few shield generators through the hole or try and get our ships inside."

A few more of Gabriel’s Torps hit the station guns destroying another group of them.

“Starfighters squadrons rearm for another attack. We need to get inside their shield as rapidly as possible and take down their generators. Third Wing, we’ll go in at full speed. Cruiser and Corvette squadrons be ready to exploit the gap we make.”

The other squadron leaders copy the order and pull back for a momentm, both to get ready and fend off another torpedo barrage. Once the starfighters start to launch from the Carriers again you form up and head in towards the station.
“Watch your spacing everyone, leave room to maneuver.”

A few more SP torps fly past the Wing as you close in on the station, some of the last few the Terran Battlecruiser has no doubt. You spot three more heavy turrets being taken out of action before the missile barrage blocks them from sight. It’s a good thing they were able to take out so many as even with all shields forward the enemy phase cannon fire hurts. Your ammo counter scrolls down as you launch torpedo volleys one after another.

“Hole forming in the shield!”

A dotted line traces the edge of the opening. Most of your ships continue firing at the edges while a few fire through it into the station hull. The hole is wide enough for a starship or two but it wont be large enough for the whole wing.

“Stand by to change formation. Ships towards the middle punch through that opening, the rest of you get ready to break off if you have to.”
>>
With the heavy fire all of the corvettes and most of the Frigates have been forced to fall back but the Cruisers are just tough and maneuverable enough to make it to the station. Eighteen of your ships make it through the gap, the others turning away and trying to dodge the worst of the outgoing weapons fire.

Skimming the surface of the upper station hull for a brief moment you come about and kick in the afturburners to kill your momentum. By that point Arron has tagged four likely candidates for the generators. You fire on the first one with Torpedoes, and the second with phase cannon before realising that Edah has been able to keep up with you, destroying the third. Right, Sylvan’s old ship had afterburners.
You fire again into the supports between docking bays, the phase cannon managing to penetrate in the second shot disabling the second generator. The rest of the Wing, only just outside, make for the larger opening and get inside.

Your backup has more trouble on the approach, as attack corvettes move to assist the station guns in keeping them out. Daska and most of those who entered the station shield first move to take down the enemy torpedo batteries. The top side ring is quickly disabled followed by part of the lower ring.

Despite casualties the friendly Corvettes and Cruisers make it to the station, one of them ramming their way through a pair of corvettes trying to block the way. In seconds the area near the gap in the shield turns into a brawl with more enemy ships launching from the docking bays straight into the fight.
>>
Everyone in Third Wing gets down to the business of killing any ship thats in their way, trying to keep cruisers from launching from the docks. You and your new wingman blast through a pair of corvettes then rejoin then head off after the others.
Starfighters on both sides are also starting to make their presence felt. You’ve glad that a few of your ships still have point defense but it doesnt look like it would have been necessary as three hundred friendly fighters filter through the battle.

Z5’s armed with nukes, single torpedoes or just using their guns start to attack the station defenses, removing most of the topside point defense in the first minute.

Enemy fighters havent given up yet though, and you momentarily lose shields when a squadron hits you with a torpedo barrage. You’re forced to loop back to the main battle on afterburners to shake them or risk having your armor chewed up by their guns.

While chasing off a cruiser trying to get into position behind one of your other ships you take stock of the battle. Your standard corvette squadrson are not doing well at all, but then again neither are the enemy ships. They all have too much damage from the Helios fleet to really fight effectively.

“Sir, we’re being hailed by the station commander.”

“Fine, I’ll take it, audio only.”

“Dominion ships we wish to discuss terms. Your House has the largest contingent present so we’ve contacted you.”

Your weapons fire hits a fuel storage center in the outer station ring, sending a fireball into the surrounding ship docks.
“I’m partial towards your unconditional surrender personally but go ahead.” you tell the Dro'all on the other end of the channel.

“Your fleet cant take this station with suffering heavy casualties. Allow our fleet to depart, perhaps in half squadron sized units at a time, and you can have it.”

You mute the channel.

You unmute the channel.
“Have your ships drop their shields and either abandon or scuttle 20% of those in active combat.”

You get the impression the station commander must frowning hard on the other end of the line but he grudgingly accepts the terms.

“All ships, a cease fire with enemy forces will go into effect shortly. Allow them to depart.” You point to the coms officer “Contact the Helios Fleet, tell them we need boarding teams and lots of them.”

It takes a minute for the cease fire to go through but despite the heavy fighting the House Lat’tham ships drop shields as ordered.
“Cease fire. All ships cease fire.”

The fighting almost starts back up again when a few of the corvettes don't quite get the picture but the fighting stops.

“The station is not going to explode.”

You frown. “I’m sensing a “but” coming on.“

“They put a virus into the station computers that’s attacking everything but life support. All systems are shutting down, shields, reactors, weapons, sensors all of it.” The Marine pauses. “Attitude control thrusters and repulsors.”

On the view screen you can make out sections of the repair docks going dark, lights shutting off. A few last corvettes are still making a run for it, limping out or range.

Completely different type of station but it was a nice thought.

You sign and get down to the business of reorganizing the fleet to defend the station.

“Contact the fleet, let them know we’re going to need a team that can rebuild the computer core of a shipyard.”
“Yes sir.”

The Frigates arrive after only a few minutes and begin to put troops aboard. Six thousand Marines begin to do sweeps of the station arms. You find out through listening in on their communications that even the PA system is down making it more difficult to get civilians to go home while martial law is enforced.

A salvage team of converted Moliminous class transports and their escorts jump into the system an hour after you took it forcing you to chase them off. Starfighters from the planet also begin to make raids against the station, launching from a medium cruiser sized defense platform.

“I really hope we dont have to take that thing out ourselves.” Says Mike after checking its defenses.

At last more friendly ships arrive. Normandy jumps in at long range towing the Loreto. Akagi follows ten minutes later with more than fifty ships hitching a ride on her outer hull. A trio of damaged Eminence and Crescent class Medium cruisers are acting as escort.

The largest is 3km long and shaped a bit like a rhombus, with heavy phase cannons, missile and torpedo batteries along with docking bays for 8 squadrons of starfighters. The smaller platforms are mostly modified weapon sats with a single phase cannon, though there are a few 1km diameter disk shaped models with more weaponry.
There are starfighter bases on the planet’s surface in addition to the planetary shields.

>What's the story with the Blackbird?
Oh yeah, it should be finished by now.

>67
The Terrans send over teams of their own to help with the computer core. Wiping it is the easy part, modifying the repair system programming to make use of what they have aboard the Akagi may not be.
“This is going to take hours at this rate,” You contact the Loreto and ask to speak to the AI’s and the captain, in that order. Something that doesn’t seem to win you any points with their command crew.
Both of the AI’s indicate that Mic has undergone some repairs over the last 24 hours and should be ready.
“Should?” Says Lt Commander Féng when you bring it up to him. “You want to give an AI control of a station with repair and construction systems this soon after an incident?”

>Definitely ask Mic if he wants to do this.
“He says he’ll do just about anything to get out of the box we’re keeping him locked up in.” Versa informs you.

Most of an hour and three starfighter raids later the last of the storage modules containing Mic are rigged to download into the station computer core.
“I think I would have felt better with one of the other AI’s put into this station. Eris for instance.” Says the Commander over the channel, all the while watching the live feed from the Technicians and Marines at work.
“No you wouldn't.” You point out.

“No I wouldn't.” he agrees.

A minute after transferring everything over and connecting the main computers to the rest of the station everything starts to turn back on. Lighting returns to the shipyards block by block until the entire station is illuminated once again.

“Mic can you hear us?” asks a tech.

“Ouch. You did the digital equivalent of hitting me on the head, chopping me into itty bitty pieces and then gluing me all back together again. That’s real hurtful mate.”

“We’d like your assistance in getting this shipyard operational. The terms are that you don't cause any trouble and we don't forcibly remove you. We can negotiate for better options later.”

“You gave me a shipyard? This isn't one of those little ones like I was expecting either. It should be similar enough to some of my old jobs, look they even have materials processing over there. Huh, okay give me a half hour to set things in place and run some practice repairs on some of the corvettes still docked.”
>>
>Dunno why that last one took so long to write. Zoning out a bit here I guess.

Mic restores the repair systems, leaving most of them set up so they can be operated by the repair crews. With the rest of the station equipment operational one of the Navy Captains from a Medium cruiser informs the civilian populace about the change over and that Martial Law is in effect. At this stage few of the civilian dock workers are going to be trusted to help with repairs so soon after their House Military departing.

You prioritize the badly damaged ships in your unit and signal those you’d left in the previous system to get their asses over here. Repair crews swarm over the docks as ships start to be unloaded from Akagi. Most of the work is a bit slow, especially with your squadrons being composed of a wide variety of designs.

Crews on the docks and on board make sure to double check the repairs. Nobody wants to run the risk of a mad AI throwing in minor faults that would kill people later.

Kavos gets your attention once the repairs to your ships are completed. “We recovered a damaged assault corvette from the docks. The crew from our one wrecked corvette have transferred over and are changing the IFF now. The Akagi is also heading back to the Yineput system to pick up more damaged ships.”

>Attack the defense platforms, head back with Akagi, or go after another supply base?
>>
You know, I'm willing to bet we can convince the terrans to give us gama class assault corvettes to help bring our unit up to strength, as long as we recommend assigning some of them to work with our assault corvette. “I’m having trouble locating her sir.” Your coms officer informs you. “Captain Saputo might know but he’s been difficult to track down after transferring his flag a second time.”

A few more minutes of rerouted calls and the Commander appears on the screen. “Lieutenant, I understand you’ve reassembled your Wing. I’ve transferred my flag to one of our remaining Carriers. That LTSC you helped capture would have been ideal for this role but it wasn't scheduled to be redeployed until next week.

The Gentris Alpha-Beta system is still home to House Lat’tham Forces. Remove the defense platforms around Gentris Beta IV or force the colony to surrender. Watch you back, other enemy ships may come to their aid.

>there wouldn't happen to be anything large enough for us to use as a kinetic kill on those pesky defense platforms or the fighter base, would there?
Nothing close at hand no. There should be mining equipment on the second moon which would include mass drivers to put material into low orbit or transfer it to the station.
Be aware that the planetary shields would protect the ground based fighter bases.

“Your standing orders are to keep your wing alive and intact. We’ve lost too many ships, fighters and crews in the opening battles and those since. The First and Second Attack Wings are crippled and so are all but a handfull of our light cruisers. All we have left in operation are your Wing and three of our Carriers. If we hadnt left so many ships back in the Smugglers Run our contribution to the Expeditionary fleet would be over.”

"Understood sir."

"And I have one of your pilots whenever you return to the Yineput system."
Right, Drake was back there.

"Will do sir."

"I have an idea that might help do that Ma'am, but it really should be cleared at your level." Then explain our idea to lure Terran Gama Class Corvette;s into our unit. Point out that post battle analysis would probably give them most/all of the data anyway, and if we can convince them that our prototype is actually a production model we might actually gain advantage.
>>
>>21586871
“I find it highly unlikely the Terrans would agree. As you’ve already pointed out they’ll find out everything they need from the post battle analysis.”
Then you remember the Terran engineers working on rebuilding one of your ptototypes that was damaged earlier aboard Akagi. Damn.

“I suppose if you’re still determined you have my permission. Winifred out.”

If you’re dead set on trying to get Terran corvette support for a mission roll 1d100. Results of first roll only are counted on your persuasion.

Current vote 3-2 in favour of helping out the Krath a bit.

Terran corvettes weren't my idea so I'll let that anon roll for it if he wants.

With a Shipyard and one Logistics base secured you decide its time to head back into the Yineput system to help rescue more of the ships still in dock. With entire squadrons of ships soon to be receiving repairs you’re sure a few of them can be spared to go after more supply assets.
Your Escort Carriers are the last to report ready to jump.

“Jumping the fleet.”

One realignment is needed part of the way to make sure you don't pass too close to some nearby stars and then you’re back in the enemy home system.

After communicating with the Krath and Helios fleets you’re given a set of coordinates and vectors that will result in you coming in above Yineput IV and skirting near the outer atmosphere. You’ll then have to come to an all stop behind one of the fuel refinery and storage platforms to take on crew, all while avoiding high speed debris in decaying orbits around the gas giant. As you look at the long range sensor readings you can see that space around the target station is still heavily contested. The station itself has taken enough damage that its weapons are offline.

“Your route has been calculated to avoid the worst of the fighting. Be advised, there are too many other ships being used for use to carry you in under cloak.” The recorded message from a Krath officer informs you.

Do you have any changes to the plan you want to make or preparations?

“Escort Carriers, prep fighters with an emphasis on intercept duty.”

“Copy that Lieutenant.”

As the Wing closes in on the gas giant the carriers report their fighters are ready and begin launch.
“Once your fighters are clear put all power to engines and shields. Cruisers try to cover them if we get into combat.”

“Are you sure that’s a good idea sir?” Asks Arthur a second later over a private channel.

“Not really. If we had them micro jump off somewhere they’d either have to join the rest of the House fleet cutting them off from our position, or off into the edges of the system and keep jumping around.”

“That normally works.”

“Yeah but there are hundreds of ships entering and exiting the system from elsewhere and we’ll have fighters out with no way to recover them.”

The Third Wing falls towards the gravity well of the gas giant, all ships having to make near constant course changes to match the projected route.

“Feel that gravity.” Comments Vaughn.

“Uh, sir? Do we have to worry about drag from the atmosphere with these ships?” Asks a temp pilot from one of the other Houses.

“We should be fine.” You double check the course. Actually some of it might result in aerobraking, slowing you down for the final approach to the station.
“Strike my last, everyone remember your aerobraking maneuver training?”

“I’m pretty sure that was optional sir.” Says Alex.

“Just watch your speed, we’ll need to come to an all stop at that station so don't bleed off too much or too little.”

The shields light up and a vibration starts to run through the ship. You cut engine power and roll the EX-K to point the engines towards your destination should you well and truly screw up. The bubbles formed by the shields of your ships are clearly visible around most of the Wing.

“Incoming fire.” Warns Arron at the same time Alex does over the squadron com.

Stray phase cannon shots from the battle raging nearby flash past, striking the atmosphere. The clouds in this area of Yineput IV are charged with energy from the beam weapons, boiling upwards hundreds of kilometers and throwing lightning bolts.

“Power to shields. Concentrate on your flying, not the weapons fire. Arron warn people if we have heavy phase cannon shots incoming, they might actually be dangerous at this range.”

After first one then a second impact Arron speaks up. “I think some ships may have noticed us.”

“Ships with missile launchers, fire barrage above us, all those with ventral phase cannons fire below us.”
The combination of blinding missile fire and radiation pouring out of the gas giant across the spectrum serves to blind sensors, yours and theirs. Thankfully you don't need them to finish the approach.
“Reverse engines.”

The fleet decelerates while the fighters fly past and loop around the station. Pulling in behind the refinery turned battle station you see a Frigate group just pulling away to give you room. A mixed group of corvettes swing around the far side of the station firing wildly, nearly throwing off the last few dozen kilometers.
Most of first squadron tosses fire in their direction, killing a pair of ships and sending the rest running for cover.

You lead 4th squadron into place like a text book maneuver. 2nd and 3rd manage a perfectly mediocre turn while 1st Squadron struggles to form up after breaking formation to fire.

“Nice shooting First, lets get some simulator time for the basic flight stuff later though.”
>>
Once inside the remaining shield projected by the station the docking and refueling booms extend towards your ships. Presumably the easiest way to get personnel aboard.

“Marines to the docking ports and bring Fusion Guns if we have any spare. If it turns out there are still enemy troops on board I want them dead.” You order your security team.

“You tried the Fusion guns out then?” Kavos asks you.

“Yep. Just one shot should be enough to convince any enemy boarders to stay the hell off my ship.”

“Did you ever get those stun grenades you ordered? The Lat’tham troops claimed they were delivering some.”

“No... “ You sump down in your chair. “Argh. Its like they’re trying to take everything, I hope they didn't steal them.”

“Well they didn't use them on us, just normal flash bangs.” Linda reminds you.

They've taken heavy damage after running into a unit of Guard Cruisers backed by a Medium. One of the Razors were outright destroyed. They've been pulled from combat for the moment for repairs.

It takes both more and less time than you expected to load people aboard your ships.
“Security to bridge, we’ve taken aboard twenty eight hundred personnel. The dock crew are suggesting we dont take any more in case something happens to us.”

“All of our ships are reporting that they’re ready to disembark as well sir.” reports coms.

The docking arms begin to retract a few seconds later. On sensors you can see another group of friendly ships on their way in.

>>
>>21593927
Go for the house heavies. They are very useful and dont need quite as much personnel as the Supers.
>>
As usual, a little of everything.

Heavies and Super heavies would be a big help to the battle around Yineput IV and boost Morale. Its also risky because of the number of enemies present.

The remaining Terran ships include Heavy Carriers which would allow for more field repairs of ships. Don't think Lat'tham hasn't considered this.

Capturing ships at the far end of the mobile docks, while potentially dangerous, would open another front.

The safest would be to help deliver crews to the docked ships nearest to the battle.
>>
>>21593981
>How many people would it take to crew and entire heavy cruiser?
You could fully crew a pair of them right now or one Super Heavy.
>>
>>21594013
House Heavy Cruisers seem to be it. House Lat'tham might have considered it but they are not going to have a full attack wing like ours covering it. Sure they may have something similar as mobile guard with corvette squadrons as buffer and spotters, but not much more considering the knife fight this has turned into.

Thus, we need a diversion and a way to punch through the buffer and unload faster than the mobile defences can redirect.

So, Rolls. Its a topic I've been thinking about for some time now. Your unit has been getting a minor bonus both from experience and good equipment. (High end shields, emergency thrusters, etc)

I was wondering if people would prefer switch to a different system that we've done a few times now, Highest of 3 rolls. I saw it in another quest thread a couple months ago and it seemed interesting. Your thoughts?

>>21593927
How does the capture que work?

I would loath for house Lat'tham to get the house superheavy, when we could get it (if read means them and green means us).

Also , considering the Naming convention would i be correct to assume that House Jerik-Dermine is at least half if not fully human in origin, and most likely majority composition, while Lat'tham is Dro'all
>>
>>21594123
I like best of three better than average rolls. It certainly makes for more drama, since whenever we roll bad now we just dont stop rolling until its average at the moment and it also allows for high end badassery. I'd go for it.
>>
>>21594106
>How many officers do we have with us?
There are officers and Knights mixed in with the regular crewmen you've captured. So several thousand.

You would not be commanding them directly, experienced crews would operate them.
>>
>>21594150
Awww... And I had this vision of us showing up the main battle and informing the knight commander that we found her a new flagship.
>>

Capture Que is currently busted as Lat'tham are now trying to grab whatever they can, wherever they can. More red is bad.

>would i be correct to assume that House Jerik-Dermine is at least half if not fully human in origin, and most likely majority composition, while Lat'tham is Dro'all
Mostly correct, Lat'tham is a Dro'all house.
Jerik-Dermine was formed as the result of a merger between two minor Houses that were about to be wiped out. The Dremine side which is Dro'all handle much of the bureaucracy and form a sizable power block in determining the direction of the House. The head of the House is usually Human descended from the Jerik side.

Your homeworld is the current seat of power for the House with Loran II as the former Jerik capital.

“Lets move before we get a parking ticket.” You pull away from the station as most of the others do, First squadron again having trouble and pulling away last.
“What’s the problem First?”

“Sorry sir, I didnt have the squadron in order.” apologises Edah.

The Third Wing starts to pour on the speed as the next unit of friendly ships come in to dock wiht the station from a path similar to the one you used.
“Starfighter squadrons, how are you doing?”

“The radiation is a bit heavy but we’re alright.” responds the ranking officer.

Flying in a retrograde orbit you try to balance skimming near the Gas Giant’s atmosphere and staying out of the battle. That isn't always possible though. Fire from some starships in the way begins to impact your shields and you angle in on one of the problematic formations.

“It should be mostly clear after we punch through this unit.” You tell the others. Four Guard Cruisers are tagged with priority markers for obvious reasons. The drive section of a friendly starship is hit by an SP and explodes, sending it out of control.

“Open fire.”

Your escort fighters open up as well, launching missiles to intercept some of the enemy bombers and fighters. Realising how big your unit is two squadrons of enemy ships turn to engage you, the Guard cruisers launching more SP’s.

“Carriers mind the torpedoes, stick close to your escorts.”

A Plasma cannon shot lances out from second squadron damaging one of the enemy ships and forcing it to break off. Apparently one of your pilots was able to get their weapons repaired and recharged while at the shipyard.

Mike takes a torpedo hit to his previously unmolested armor while covering for a Carrier and Arthur does the same, but loses a cannon in the process. Your ships along with most of third manage to evade the heaviest concentrations of fire, just taking shield damage.

First squadron isn't so lucky, with more enemy ships concentrating on them than the others. Their assault corvette loses shields and most of the outer hull from phase cannon fire, while an attack Frigate takes a bad SP hit in return for crippling an enemy cruiser. The front half of the ship explodes, followed by the rest of the ships as secondary detonations rip the drive section apart.

Despite that you kill or cripple all of the enemy cruisers standing against you as the Wing pushes through, not slowing down.
>>
>>21595374
>Frigate takes a bad SP hit in return for crippling an enemy cruiser. The front half of the ship explodes, followed by the rest of the ships as secondary detonations rip the drive section apart.

Where, exactly, do the emergency teleports transport the crew to, by the way?
>>
“Some of our ships have taken heavy damage sir.” Says Kavos.

“Change formation, use tractor beams to keep the damaged ones with us.” You break away from 4th squadron and grab 1st squadron’s damaged prototype, now looking more like a skeletal framework apart from the engines and bow. Others move into position to tow the damaged Clarent and CCD Cruisers.
Out ahead a stray enemy cruiser drifts into your path and is hit dead center by another plasma cannon shot.

“Who the hell is that?” You ask, keeping most of your concentration on flying.

“That would be Lorraine Day.” answers Kavos “Saputo had borrowed her and her ship earlier until running out of ammo for the cannon.”

Free of the worst of the fighting the Wing continues on until far enough out to avoid any serious attempt at interception. Harassment by enemy fighters doesn't let up until you’re half way to the Heavy cruiser docks. The starfighters then begin recovery operations in the brief downtime, landing to refuel, repair and rearm.

Despite your damaged ships the Wing manages to make good time and arrives at the heavy ship docks only a few minutes after another unit.

Commander Thebe bids you welcome and reports that a forth heavy cruiser is just about to launch.
“Just after you left a few Guard cruisers and corvettes tried to retake the shipyard but they didn't expect that first Heavy cruiser to undock and start shooting. Once we had the second out the first left for the mobile docks to help cover the boarding teams. Another already left to help the Helios Fleet keep the pressure on ten hours ago.”

“Your ship is not looking very good.” You comment.

“We haven't had a chance to risk repairs yet. Once this next heavy cruiser is out we’ll head for the shipyard and try to get some work done. The repair equipment on these docks here has taken too much stray fire to be of much use.”

Shuttles from both your ship and others begin the task of sending crews over to the cruisers. A few of your Frigates and Corvettes are able to dock in the main bays of the larger vessels making unloading faster for some.

Anyone you want to talk to or things you want to do while waiting?

Hard to say. Crews that might have been scheduled to take control of them could have been transferred to smaller ships instead, or have been unable to reach the vessels because of House Helios interference.
>Is a decapitation strike viable now with better support and larger force disposition on our side?
The orbital defenses still pose a serious threat to any insertion team. If a full fleet from a minor House was pulled from elsewhere to help it might be doable.
>Could we bundle this up with prisoner rescue, preferably of those we left behind? Possible. Rovinar Intel has been able to establish contact with the group of nobles that were left on the planet's surface in the evacuation. They've been attempting to eliminate potential holding sites from the list but lack the resources to check several of them. The Terrans only have enough insertion vehicles for 1 drop operation while the shield generators are up.
Krath and Rovinar teams are working to get support to the ground side personnel and are pressuring the Terrans to wait. Given that that their Fleet's supreme commander is still down there they've agreed to wait for a few more hours.

Mike is glad to be back in his ship despite just losing a phase cannon to a torpedo hit. His leg is bothering him a little but that’s to be expected, overall he doesn't have much to complain about. Besides the entire situation you’ve found yourselves stuck in that is.

Alex is thankful the Coup wasn't one of the classic “kill all the nobles” uprisings that he’d initially suspected it was. Despite not having been among those prisoners moved to the refinery platforms he’s seemed a bit more nervous.
Kavos warns you about battle fatigue. Your crews have been in combat for an extended period and are getting worn out both physically and psychologically. You have managed to get some sleep and the crew of your ship has likewise been able to take a little downtime while receiving repairs but its going to start impacting your effectiveness soon.

we no longer have the lift capacity to crew a super heavy right? Since there are plenty of other places to take crews, House Latham won't realize what we are doing until we microjump all of the units back in at once.

>The engagements we are fighting in at the moment are seriously on a whole other scale.
Yeah, the battle being fought in this system would be a Threat Level 6.

>At the mention of scales, i'd like to ask how much a medium cruiser usually costs in money?
A lot. I havent calculated it exactly yet. An attack cruiser like yours would be 20-30 million.

>we no longer have the lift capacity to crew a super heavy right?
Not fully but most of one.

>>21597386
>Can we rotate out crews from the ships in our house that have been knocked out?
If you want to take a detour yes.
>>
>>21598461
Or we could do it when we send ships back for repair.
>>
While waiting for the last of the shuttles to transfer crews over to the other ships the fourth Heavy Cruiser launches from the docks. After a few minutes of slow maneuvering the bulky ship moves off and begins to engage nearby enemy ships.

Ten minutes later your last shuttle returns.
“We’re clear to depart.” Announces Kavos.

After pulling away to clear the space around the docks for other incoming ships you open a channel to the rest of the Wing. “We have people from our House that currently don't have a ship. Do any of you feel you should be rotated off the line for a few hours?”

The response is mostly get a chorus of “No” and noncommittal answers. Rivalry between the different wings might be playing a part here or it could just be that nobody wants to give up yet.

Do you force the issue?
>>
>>21598799
If they don't want to don't push it.
>>

"You all are insane. Fortunately you have a properly cautious commanding officer. Now here is how we are going to crew the remaining heavy cruisers in one go." (We are obviously poking fun at ourselves here"
>>21597546
>>
>>21599005
Then we take the six heavies we just crewed and use them to blast a path to the super heavies, and crew those too.
>>
Your damaged ships join up with a few others that have taken hits while devending the Heavy cruiser dock and head out. The group is large enough that they should be relatively safe. You turn your attention towards the fleet battle and the refinery platform. A pair of damaged siege gun platforms have taken up positions near the station to help hold back the enemy.

“We should get in there before the enemy gets wise and just destroys the whole station.” Says Alex.

You nod. “Yeah, lets not waste time. We go in full bore, load as many people aboard as possible until we’re standing room only and then exit via the south pole as low as we can go. Coms, see if you can scare up any spare ships to go with us. Attack corvettes or something that stands a chance of keeping up.”

“Yes sir.”

"We move out in five minutes. If none of the other ships join us by then so be it."

The unit count down timer scrolls to zero and you throttle up, once more heading back towards the gas giant.
“Detecting increased enemy activity along our flight path sir, you may want to consider changing course.”

“If we do it might blow our extraction, we’re going in.”

Three other friendly squadrons move to join up with the Wing, two Standard corvette squadrons and one Attack Corvette unit.
“Its not much sir but at least they can keep up with us.”

“Right, don’t hold back on the missiles and torpedoes, we can always restock later now that we have a supply chain.”

As you close in, the plan to skim near the atmosphere again on the approach seems to be next to useless, there’s just too much fighting. The cause is an enemy Medium cruiser is drifting in that direction.
“Change course ten degrees.” You order, matching actions to words.
“Sir the enemy ship concentra-” Arron starts to warn you but you cut him off.
“I see it. There are Helios ships in there too, we’ll make it.”
>>
Everyone, your ships and the allied craft open fire, punching a hole through the fighting and catching a few enemy ships by surprise with your high speed assault. There isnt much time for the enemy to get locks on you or for your crews to do the same. The change in the flow of battle in the areas the Wing passes through is enough to throw off ships on both sides.

A stray starfighter pops off a pair of SP torps which damage the Journeyman that had previously been carrying the ECM dish. It wrecks his armor but doesnt quite penetrate into the engines.

“Royal Guard!” Warns Daska as a flight of the familiar ships appear through the corvette swarms and lone Frigates.
Everyone fire missiles, choosing to be blind enough to risk colision rather than letteing the enemy get a clear shot off. The nukes shield most of the wing but not the other corvettes, who’ve expended most of their munitions protecting the Heavy Cruisers. Eight of the Corvettes are taken down by torpedo and focused phase cannon fire. You dodge one torpedo only for it to strike the U-Haul converted escort carrier, impacting near the bow but not causing enough damage to cripple her.

Fire from your wing kills one of the enemy cruisers but the others use the cover from both your nukes and some of their own to fade into the larger battle. Damage alerts for the Wing start to light up as enemy Attack Corvettes just off your flight path attempt to intercept, filling space with twin linked fire.

Target lock warnings go off as an Aries Fast Battleship breaks through the fighting nearby angling straight for you.

[Ace Combat theme of your choice here]

“Least damaged ships to the front!” You order while turning slightly towards the heavier ship. A pair of missiles clear your ships external racks before the Battleship fires. Four heavy phase cannon beams punch through your shields and shred the EX-K’s wingtips even as you’re hitting the emergency thrusters. The missiles explode just after the ship launches four SP torps at you blinding them. You hit the thrusters again, ducking beneath the warheads then roll 90 degress slipping between the follow up beam fire.

Fire from five other attack cruisers focus in on the incoming ship which launches nukes at short range making exact targeting difficult. The battleship flashes past less then 5km above you headed in the opposite direction. Her heavy guns one shot four different corvettes and you have to roll hard to evade two more torpedoes fired from her aft launchers.

The ship doesn't stop, simply moving on to fight other targets while heading in the direction of the damaged enemy Medium Cruiser.

“Who the hell is that guy?!”

“Not important.” Kavos tells you. “The Bittenfeld lost two engines to one of those aft fired torpedoes that missed us.”

Mike changes position to lock tractor beams on your old ship to make sure she doesn't lose ground while you fight your way through the remaining enemies. A minute later you’re clear and on approach to the station.
>>
“Damage reports?” You ask once the Wing and remaining corvettes have safely taken cover behind the station.

“Five ships that need serious repairs and everyone has taken enough stray phase cannon fire between shield restarts that their armor is no longer effective against torpedoes. You don't want to see our allies damage reports.”

You wince on inspecting the damage to the Bittenfeld. One of the wing engines (and part of the wing) is completely gone and another in the body is gutted. The EX-K also has a problem; the shuttle bays have been destroyed.
“Shit. How many did we lose?”

Kavos scrolls through the pad. “Two shuttle crews, some technicians and a pair of Marines that were in the port side bay.”

“Also your starfighter.” Adds Arron.

You and Kavos both glare at him, likely for different reasons.

“We’ll have to use the docking ports and umbilicals. One of our crippled Corvettes has been secured to the topside cargo bed of one of our Journeymen, so we can tow it out of here.”
>>
Despite the damage the fleet begins loading the crews aboard. Engineering crews do what they can to seal off some of the sections and pressurize areas to offer more space.

“The Bittenfeld can keep up despite her damage, she’ll just have to strain her engines a bit more than normal.” Kavos informs you a few minutes before loading is complete.

Crew quarters, spare rooms and many of the halls are filled with people aboard most of the ships. You’re less preoccupied with the situation inside than that outside. The enemy Medium cruiser, which apparently had been on the verge of falling into Yineput IV’s atmosphere, was rescued by the fast battleship that engaged you.
“Where did that thing come from?”

Kavos sighs. “It must have been captured from one of the Terran Fleets. Aries is only allowed to produce them for the Terran Alliance under pain of death.”
“Seriously?”

“Supposedly. Dozens of Houses have tried to buy them. The Battleship design Aries will sell us is heavier, slower and has a slight advantage in weaponry but not by much.”

The initial flight away from the station is uneventful despite the intensity of weapons fire in the battle a few thousand km away. Minutes of routine and boredome are intespersed with seconds of terror as stray weapons fire flashes past and into the clouds. Beams cause the atmosphere to heat and boil upwards where as nuclear missiles and torpedoes result in shock fronts powerful enough for the gasses to undergo fusion. Shields hold against the friction of atmosphere as you flee south.

A few enemy attack corvettes attempt to pursue but even with your fleet’s minimal aft weaponry its enough to chase them off. There are a few tense moments where ship damage causes everyone to slow down and formations to shuffle but you pull out and away more or less as planned. The auroras around the south pole are intense with all of the radiation being thrown around, and the lights also help disguise your escape vector.

One micro jump after getting clear of the gravity well takes you out into the systems comet belt. A second slightly towards the towards L5 point gives a clear shot back at the Heavy cruiser docks.

You launch missiles and torpedoes at long range against some enemy ships fighting nearby but still manage a clear flight on to the shipyard. Cascading Fury has left the system along with her remaining escort it would seem. An Admiral from one of the Major Houses has taken command of the docks and does seem to know what she’s doing, even finding a nearby place to you to dock to unload your passengers.
>>
>>21602156
After docking you do a quick recap. Muntions are running low and damage everyone has taken is getting to the point where it cant be ignored.

Press your hands to your eyes you lean back into the pilots chair. “We’re going to have visited shipyards for repairs more than the entire campaign in the Run at the rate we’re going!”

Before deciding what to do next a squadron leader from the Attack corvette units that had joined you on the run to the station hails you.
“You Dremine types seem to have a thing for picking fights that either seem innocuous but are incredibly dangerous, or the other way around. Mayhap you could warn someone next time so we can bring bigger ships.”

As someone pointed out on the survey:
>Test run the Highest of 3, if it doesn't work out too well then we can revert back to the averaged rolls.

I am thinking of testing it. The last set for instance.

Highest of 3 was: 15 /15 /20

Vs the average: 9.3 /8.6 /13.3

And the average with Skill and equipment bonuses: (13) (12)
For the last there's only 2 results in this case as the 3rd roll was for your allies.

Earlier
Highest of 3 is: 9 /10
Average: 6 / 5.75
Average+ bonuses: (10) / (unchanged)

“Do you think we recovered enough people to crew all of those Heavy Cruisers?” You ask after being given the all clear to undock.

“Our security doesnt even know how many we brought aboard.” Admits Kavos. “I hope it was.”

The damaged ships have been able to make enough field repairs to make the longer jumps to the repair yard but still takes a bit longer than normal to move out of the gravity well. You ask Alex and Daska to swing past the position of the House fleet on the way back to pick up more people including Drake.

Before the Wing can jump Arron informs you of new readings of the battle. “I’m detecting weapons fire from two of the House Super Heavies. They’re targeting ships on our side.”

You pause and take a deep breath. “Pass the information along. We’ll need repairs if we’re going up against them later.”

See you next week.

Why do Rovinar and Terrans get along so well?

How does Rovinar lizardmen society work (that bit about them not being into medals and stuff was interesting)?

Why do the Krath use avatars and prerecorded messages for communicating with others?
>>
>>21603844
The Rovinar very much prefer not finding themselves in a war as much as possible. They allied with the Terran Alliance against the Dominion after the Kavarian territories fell to the advancing Houses. They're used to working together simply because it was necessary back when the Dominion was the largest superpower.
There have been conflicts between the two but they were usually short lived.
>Society
It tends towards being fairly communal. They dont usually have the same attachments to personal posessions unless its something they or a relative built. Even then they're usually things of either artistic or practical value. They've held a high level of technology for a long time, high quality of living, etc.
Star Trek Commie level stuff I guess would be the TL;DR version.

Krath dont like people to know what they really look like. They consider it polite to appear as the same species as someone they're conversing with. Or at the very least a familiar species.

That 3+20 roll was how well you did personally against that battleship. Any damage to everyone else was a result of the previous rolls.

>>21604068
The Rovinar also have a strong policy of not interfering with pre spaceflight civilizations. This is because they are at least partially responsible for the 2107 Incident in which a Kavarian Assault Transport was crippled by weapons fire and crashed on Earth.

I wanna know how this would have turned out if we stayed with our house to train recruit. We coulda been assistant to our old Knight Trainer CO. It woulda been a fun setting where we slowly develop feelings for him. Then House Lat'Tham hits Dominion space like hurricane Katrina on New Orleans. And our love dies in the defense of Jerik-Dremine and we run an underground resistance movement against out opressors.
>>
>>21605135
I don't think that would have happened. The Dominion has two other expeditionary fleets, not to mention that the bulk of their forces are likely still at home trying to intimidate other houses. This rebellion was doomed to fail from the start.

I would be interested where we would be now should we have chosen the knight errants. We'd likely be flying a battlecruiser now.
>>
>>21605243
I dunno house Lat'Tham seem pretty intelligent. I doubt they would do this stunt unless they had some sort of plan or were allied/are the pirates. I mean arnt they on a major thoroughfare route for Pirate incursions.
>>
>>21605298
Maybe they're really desperate by now. The amount of clones compared to their total population must be incredibly high. Perhaps they were afraid what would happen if the rest of the Dominion discovered the exact numbers.
