"Oh please," she says, hitting you on the shoulder. "I had to finish up some swim team stuff. We're nearing our last meet of the season, so I had to make sure the other members of the team had their schedules."

"I guessed as much. Anyway, let's go home and eat. I really wish I had made us lunch, but I forgot about it last night."

"Did you want to invite the others?" Miyuki asks.

"The thought had crossed my mind," you say with a shrug. "Do you mind if I invite them?"

"It's your house," she says. "I'm a guest."

"That's not an answer," you point out.

"I don't care," she says, shrugging.

You decide against inviting everyone over. As the two of you walk home, you say, "I think we can have a night where it's just us."

"Oh?" Miyuki asks. "I thought you would've wanted to have Sora over to get her used to everyone. She was really quiet even though she was helping these past couple days."

"I think she's just uneasy right now," you say. "Give her some time. She did say she'd try and spend some time with us tomorrow after we do our work at the stall, if we'd have her."

"That's good," Miyuki says.

When the two of you arrive back home, you drop your stuff off and immediately head into the kitchen. You're starving. "What do you want to eat?" you ask as you fumble through the cabinets.

"I don't care," Miyuki says. "I just want to eat."

"Alright." You pull out some chicken breast and gather up materials and start cooking several pieces of chicken in a marinade consisting of Dr. Pepper and other assorted spices. Once it's done, you let it rest and call her into the kitchen.

"What smells so good?" she asks.

"Behold!" You gesture to the plate. "Food." The two of you eat and hang out for a bit, talking about a few different things from the past week, such as how everyone came together to work dilligently on the stall, the state of affairs the swim team is in, and how the English teacher really seems to have it in for you. Once you both finish eating, you take the dishes back into the kitchen.

"So what now?" Miyuki asks.

"We've still got some homework to do, don't we?" you ask. "We should probably get that taken care of so we have all weekend to do nothing."

"Sounds like a good idea," she says. A couple hours pass as the two of you finish up any remaining homework, and before you know it, it's already dark. "Wow, where'd the time go?"

"Here," you say, pointing to the notebooks on the living room table. "But we're done, so that's good."

"I think I might get some early sleep," Miyuki says. "I want to be up early to do some exercise before the festival."

"It's only nine, though," you point out.

"I figure I'll wake up around four in the morning so I don't disturb you. Unless you want to join in?"

You weigh your options. It's not extremely late, but you have been a little bit lax in your exercise. The most you've done the past week was some light jogging, since you had stuff to do after school for the festival.

"Actually," you say, "I think I will join in." The two of you get ready for bed, and you joke back and forth a bit. She leaves to take a shower, and you're left alone in your room. Bored, you start reading through some manga to pass the time. Surprisingly, you haven't received a text from anyone since you got home. You start to wonder why, but then you stop yourself. They all have lives, too, after all. It doesn't all revolve around you.

When Miyuki comes back in, she's wearing one of your shirts again. "Time for some sleep," she says.

"Sounds good to me." The two of you hop into bed and settle down for some good rest. Miyuki falls asleep almost instantly. You, however, lay awake, unable to embrace the sweet sensation of slumber. You're staring at the ceiling, slightly frustrated at your inability to find sleep.

That's when your phone vibrates softly on your nightstand. You glance over and realize you received a text message.

You swear quietly to yourself and pick up the phone. You were right. It's a text message, though it's from Sora. 'Hi.' You stare at the screen for a long time, unsure if you really feel like responding right now. Miyuki is right next to you, after all, and you aren't entirely sure how light of a sleeper she is. The constant vibration from the phone might nudge her awake.

You start to type a response, but stop yourself. Why is she texting you now? Is the girl bored? Or maybe she just wants to talk? You curse yourself for overthinking something so mundane as a late-night text message. Sora has been warming up to you over the past week, so it's only normal to think she'd want to talk after school, even if it is night time.

You type a response back and cling to your phone to keep the vibrations as quiet as possible. You get a response fairly quickly, and a conversation unfolds between the two of you. From what you gather, Sora is having difficulty sleeping as well. Apparently her father is being strict again, and he's talking about keeping her from attending the festival this weekend.

'I presume you've tried to reason with him?' you ask.

'I have, yes, but Father is a stubborn one. Once he has his mind set on something, he's loathe to change.'

'Maybe things will change tomorrow morning,' you reply. 'You might even be able to convince him.'

'Maybe...'

'Of course, there is another option...'

'What option is that?'

'Sneak out.' You know you're encouraging bad behavior, but at the same time, you sort of feel like it's justified. Sora, however, might not, and you plan to play it off as a joke if the suggestion goes over terribly.

Several minutes pass before you get a response. 'Maybe.'

You could continue the conversation, or you could try and get some sleep. It's already nearing eleven at night.

'Well, I need to get some sleep. I'm waking up pretty early in the morning to do some exercise before the festival, so I'll talk to you a bit later.' As an afterthought, you add, 'Maybe I'll see you a bit earlier than expected. Either way, goodnight, Sora.' You set your phone aside and put your head back down to try and sleep.

The next morning, you awaken to Miyuki crawling over you to go change, and you follow suit. The two of you do about six laps around the neighborhood before coming back to the house and doing push ups, crunches, and a few sets of curls with the weight set. When you finally get a chance to shower, the warm water feels great against your aching body.

You head downstairs and start making breakfast, and once it's nearly done, you see Miyuki and Chiyo walking into the kitchen. "Good morning," you say to the two of them.

"Good morning," they respond. "Excited about today?" Chiyo asks.

"A little bit," you say. "I think I'm mainly just ready to put all of this behind us. It's the source of a lot of commotion."

"That's definitely true," Miyuki says. "What do you think you'll do first after you're done with your shift at the stall?"

"I figure I'd explore a bit and see what happens," you say. "No real plans or anything." The three of you discuss the festival some more before heading out to the school. When you arrive, you see Sayuri already moving around the stall, trying to get things organized. The entire area is bustling with activity as students from all the classes are attending to their own stalls and other such things.

It's only a matter of time before Sayuri notices you and asks you to start helping out. Chiyo lends a hand, as she said she would, and everyone is set to work within minutes. You lose track of time as you cook the yakisoba, and soon it's well past noon. You grab a break and have some food in order to recharge a bit. You glance around the grounds, and you notice Sora isn't anywhere to be seen. You frown, then check your phone. No new messages. You sigh a bit before finishing your lunch and getting back to work. Once you work a couple more hours, you decide to call it quits. As you're cleaning up, Sayuri walks up to you. "Thanks, Anon-kun. You did great today."

"I'm glad I could help," you say. "We all did well today."

"That's true!" she says. "I didn't see Sora-chan today, though," she adds, wilting slightly. "I thought she said she was going to be here."

"I'm sure there's a good reason," you say, not wanting to talk about Sora's home life without her consent.

"I guess... Anyway, you should go out and enjoy the festival," Sayuri says. "Go on! I can handle the rest of this."

"Where did the others go?" you ask.

"They all decided to head out and see what's left of the festival as well. Go on, Anon-kun." After the small girl's persistant urging, you decide to head out into the festival as well. You might as well enjoy yourself, after all. You wander around the different stalls and exhibits, talking with people here and there. You don't actually run into any of the girls while you're out mingling with people, much to your surprise. You do see Tadashi a few times, and when you see him the third time, you approach him.

"Hey Anon-kun," he says. "What are you up to?"

"Not a lot," you reply. "Just wandering around."

"I'm surprised you don't have one of the girls hanging off your arm," he jokes. "Did you finally give them the slip?"

"More like they gave me the slip, and Sayuri told me to go out and enjoy the festival."

"Ouch. Sounds harsh."

"Eh, not really. I'm just a little bit bored, to be honest. I don't know what to do right now."

"Why don't you try playing some of the festival games?" Tadashi asks. "That or find one of the girls, if you're that bored. Or," he says, "You can hang out with me for a bit."

"What did you need help with?" you ask.

"I need a wingman," Tadashi says matter-of-factly. "And I think you're the perfect guy for the job."
