/tg/ - Traditional Games

File deleted.
After meeting up with Drogo the halfling and Angband the Dwarf and returning the dead messenger to the Magi, the party decided to finish clearing out the second level of the pyramid. They fought some stirges, met with pixies, and found several crates full of fireworks. And there was much rejoicing.

Sorry I couldn't run the game the last two days. I was called in to work.

Pop.

I ask the various thieves of Usamigaras whether they think of the priests and warriors of Gorm as friends they want to protect and help, as rivals they're willing to work with but also are somewhat against, or as enemies.
>>
>>21951964
It depends on who you ask. Some seem to dislike both the other factions, but others say that despite their different opinions, they are all working for the good of Cynidicea
>>
>>21954334
Well then. I have a plan.
First, I'll fill my empty flasks with the acid on level 5.
Then, I want to round up 2 of the Usamigaras mages that Most dislike Gorm, making sure they know Sleep.
A third with Hold portal would also be handy.
If they don't each have daggers, I buy daggers for them.
I also ask the Pixies if they're up for a round of Bee baiting.

"Yes. Always."

You can get one who knows sleep and one with know portal. There are also thieves if you want to bring one
>>
>>21954512
Only one who has Sleep ready is available?
Better take him, and one who knows Protection from Evil.
Then I take as many pixies as will fit in my retainer slots.

I tell the mages, flatly, that there's a stockpile of gold belonging to the Gorm priests, and it's guarded by killer bees.
I think it'd be better for everyone involved if we could destroy the bees, as that will prevent them from hurting anyone.
I then mention that the mages can then decide what to do with the gold, and I will follow their lead.
>>
>>21954574
They do like the idea of stealing the gold, but killer bees are a bit much. Still, they're willing to go along with the plan.
The Pixies of course will follow you until they become bored.
>>
Rolled 2

>>21954639
All right. Here's the plan.
Protect Evil on me.
Open the door from room 4.
I'll absorb as many hits as I can.
Cast sleep on as many as possible
Pixies, while invisible, will stab the sleeping ones.
Then we all dogpile on whichever bees are alive.
I tell them not to worry. I can handle a few bees in the face.

So. Shall we roll initiative?
>>
Rolled 1

Not sure how many pixies I have, but they're likely shredding the sleeping bees by now.
They are knife-armed, yes?
If not, then freedaggers forall.
>>
>>21954706
Two. In the middle of this room is a cage, with a pile of treasure on the floor inside. At the top of the cage you see a beehive entrance set into the roof. The cage bars are far enough apart for the bees to get through. There is also a small hole in the south wall, big enough for the bees to fly out.
There are five bees you can see, and they all fall asleep. The beehive entrance starts quaking, and other sleeping bees are pushed out of it.

12 to hit killer bees

The pixies are not stabbing the bees to death, but shaking them. "Wakey wakey, time for chasey!"
>>
Rolled 5

>>21954777
Goddamn fae.

Well, I have a beltknife. I'll get stabbing then.
The mages have knives too. time for stab.
I ask the Pixies how come they don't want to play the colors game with the bees? :[

Also here's 1d6 for last turn since my 8 would've actually been a hit.
>>
>>21954801
>>21954777
Oh. Right. I go for the beltknife shanking closest to the hive, leaving the Mages as behind me as they can get.

I also internally curse the fae. Bloodyfae.
>>
>>21954801
If you want to hit the two awakened ones you need to roll to hit
>>
>>21954826
No, focus fire on the sleeping ones. That takes my turn and the mages' turns doesn't it?

The bees out here are dead. There are four more sleeping inside the cave.

With the bees dead, the pixies have grown bored and wandered off
>>
>>21954922
Can I reach them to stab them with 10ft pole + small dagger?
In any case I tell the magi to stay the heck behind me while I try it.

If not, then it's time to play a game of grabby-coiny-and-leavey.
>>
>>21954941
Not really.

The cage is locked. You'd need someone to pick the lock or force the cage open, but the latter would be very loud and almost certainly alert the Brotherhood
>>
>>21954965
Better not do that then.

Well, they're in a cage, yes?

And I did loot some Acid from the slimepool as part of the plan.

I try Acid + sleeping bees. I know this doesn't coup de grace them and wakes them up, but it's 1d8.
I also hand an Acid flask to the Magi near me, for 3 flasks total.

Do I need to roll to-hit for such a close range acid drop?

Heading out, you see it's getting late in the evening as you return to the pyramid. As you approach the Usamigaran shrine, you hear screaming, and Auriga angrily scolding someone
>>
>>21955782
Lore: Who is Auriga?
>>
>>21955798

>>
>>21955807
Screaming doesn't sound good. They might have been counterattacked, or perhaps gotten a global "Don't arse with the Gromites' treasure" Protocol.
Which, I haven't. But if they're pissed at me I'd better not show up with weapons ready. I quiver my javelins, and enter via the back path with the movable statue. I wait for the screaming/scolding to stop before progressing.

I may well get chewed out for this by the Usamigarans but I doubt they'll instantly KOS me for it.
>>
>>21955845
Wait, how are you going to get the statue to move again?
>>
>>21955888
Turn wand left.
>>
>>21955908
Yep, that's correct. The statue moves back allowing you to look into the Usamigaran shrine.
Ten of the Magi are watching as the uninjured one who went with you is suspended from the ceiling by her ankles, her shoulders resting on the floor. You can hear her sobbing in pain as Auriga lectures the others watching, presumably on what she did wrong and why they shouldn't make the same mistake
>>
>>21955979
Well shit. Better own up to what I've done and prostrate myself I guess.
I wanted to clear the treasure room of bees so they didn't attack any other adventuerers, and agree with the Magi on what to do with the treasure in the room.
So if these Magi did something wrong then I did something wrong too.
What happened to the stung one? Did he die? If so, That's my bad. I tried to keep the Bee focused on me but it slipped by.
>>
>>21956014
Also if it's relevant I didn't take any of the treasure. They can search me if they want - I had 350gp and 34 silver when I bought a crapton of equipment from them. I have 277gp now.

"What in the..." Leod whispers to himself, eyeing the two groups. What in the world was in the box that the priests would want?
>>
>>21956922
This isn't it. The Priests of Zargon are coming out of a different entrance, previously unknown to you.
>>
>>21956944
And currently unknown I have to assume, given that we've only seen the oasis.

Well, I'd say we have two options.
Tail the goblin and ask him questions
Or tail the priests and wait for them to lead us to their hideyhole.

I'm thinking Goblin is best option, but Leod probably has other ideas.

I can't discuss it with him until the deal's over though owing to my hiding closer.

So I wait until the deal's over then follow the gobbo.
>>
>>21956975
Quite frankly I'm not even sure Leod knows Drogo is there.
>>
>>21957028
Perhaps better that way. That way we can't both be caught!

I guess I wait for DM's next move then.
>>
>>21956975
The Goblins seem to have set up camp here for the night, their lizard mounts being most effective during the day. They're using this opportunity to restock their water supplies, gather fresh fruit, and collect firewood. Even now they've got a good one going to keep out the desert chill
>>
>>21957047
Noted. What are th... Oh, right, I'm not following the priests so for all I know of they're still in that tent.

I attempt to locate Leod and relay the Gobbo information to him. I wonder if Leod's been tailing the priests?
>>
>>21957082
Not a tent. They went into a small building. It's above the surface and hasn't collapsed, unlike the ones within the lost city
>>
>>21957093
Do I know which building they went into IC, and if so, is it close to the goblin camp?
>>
>>21957109
It's outside the city walls, and it's the only building nearby. It's not very far from the oasis, which is where the goblins are camping
>>
>>21957142
Hm. Still might be able to get close to it by hiding.
I attempt to get close enough to light a torch or flash my lantern at Leod.
>>
>>21957169
Close enough to where to light your torch? Close enough to Leod to signal him? He sees your light, but the goblins also seem to notice. They're not sure where you are, but are looking around for whoever has a light on the dunes
>>
Rolled 4

>>21957222
Being gobbos they may well be initially hostile. Hidin' again.
Drop the torch, obviously.
>>
>>21957222
...This is exactly the sort of thing why I didn't want anything to do with you, mate.
>>
>>21957241
Oh come on. You've just sat on that ridge forever!

Fiine play it safe. I'm getting out of the situation now.
>>
>>21957234
From behind the shrub where you're hiding, you can see the goblin merchantss are remaining in their camp, but have gotten their weapons ready, in case of attack
>>
>>21957259
If that's the DM you dropped your name.
Time to just exit the area.

Well, I can't stay here, and I have no bloody chance of taking on 5 cultists alone. Unless they're all unarmed, level 1, and have no magic. At which point I have a decent shot but yeah, right.

It's night in the desert now, yes? Hm. I'd better find a place to wait for morning then head back to Mistamere. Honestly this temple is just too tough for me to handle.
>>
>>21957249
Oh yeah, I'm totally the one at fault here. Totally.

Anyway, any chance of Leod and Krago slipping away from the gobbos and inspecting the entrance the priests used?
>>
>>21957277
Oops.

And yeah, you could head to the entrance without being detected by the goblins
>>
>>21957279
Well that was the INTENDED effect of signalling you now wasn't it?
Geez.
>>
>>21957294
>>21957296
Given that IC I don't know where the hell Leod is, I suppose I'll have to do that.

Where's that Plot Eagle when you need it?
>>
>>21957306
I thought you did know. You know, met up, decided to check out the drug deal, and Drogo headed down on his own to investigate further
>>
>>21957313
From the looks of it, Drogo decided to just tag along without telling Leod. Glorious.
>>
>>21957313
At that point we split up. I tried to signal him but no result. He's hiding, and I couldn't signal him, so now I've lost track of him.
>>
>>21957337
I guess you can signal him from the reverse side of the dune, so he can find you but the goblins don't
>>
>>21957354
You mean, maybe he exited first and didn't catch the signal?
I suppose. I'll head back over the dune, hide, and wait. Not until sunrise, that shit's risky, but perhaps until Leod tries something.

[OOC: Thus far all he's done is sat on his ass and bitched at me. Literally this is all he has done.]
>>
>>21957383
It's called 'waiting until the meeting is over and then tailing one of the parties involved'. Or ambushing the gobbos. Anyway, Leod and Krago are going to try and figure out where the priests went and if they can be followed. Another entrance, one to a deeper level, would be handy to have.
>>
>>21957457
The priests went into a building. You can try to follow them down if you want
>>
>>21957457
And that is what I did. It is also what I thought you'd be interested in! So ... why did you complain about it?
Well whatever.

>>21957487
Warn me if I spot Leod.
>>
>>21957495
If you're looking for him, then yes you see him and Leod as they head down the dune towards the building
>>
>>21957495
I complained about you alerting the gobbos.

>>21957487
Let's do that, yeah.
>>
>>21957514
Drogo is confused and waits to see if Leod enters the building or if he does something else.
In any case, Drogo is hiding.
>>
The building looks to be about 20 foot by 30 foot, and made of stone. The door is wooden, and has a closed peephole at eye level
>>
>>21957555
Any windows? The door locked?
>>
>>21957572
No windows, and the door seems to be locked or barred somehow as you try opening it
>>
>>21957605
Ah. that's a good time to enter.

Drogo moves up to say Hello to Leod. Quietly. And ask for orders on what we're doing and how to go about it.
>>
>>21957627
Can Drogo pick the lock on the door, if it is a lock and not just a wooden plank barring it?
>>
>>21957671
No, I'm a Halfling, not a Thief.
We could break the door down or burn it with oil, leave it alone, or ... do Leod's suggestion.
I'm going with Leod's suggestion.
>>
>>21957671
Halflings don't pick locks.

The door is barred, but the door is small enough that you could probably slip down the side
>>
>>21957704
If it's small enough to slip through, can I look through it with my mirror?
>>
>>21957732
It's not that wide, but you could try to look from under the door. That way you can see two robed figures waiting in this room
>>
>>21957752
I tell Leod there are two robed figures waiting in this room.
>>
>>21957760
>>21957752
I also tell him that pouring oil behind the door then lighting it with a torch is likely to solve the problems of the robed men, and the locked door.

But of course I'm waiting for Leod's orders.
>>
>>21957776
...they'd just flee through whatever secret entrance they have. Smarter option would be to knock, shoot whoever answers in the face with a crossbow through the peephole, then kick/smash/pry/whatever open the door. Honestly, more tempted to pull back, maybe kill the gobbos, and come back later to attack the cultists with more backup.
>>
>>21957875
I tell Leod that the Gobbos have lizard mounts, and those can be fierce motherfuckers.
The Gobbos are prepared to deal with cultists, too.
Also, why kill the Gobbos? Talk to them for info first, I think. Whether by beating it out of them or presenting as a potential buyer. If we get their delivery schedule then we know where and when to ambush the cultists, or we could pre-emptively poison their stocks.
>>
>>21957915
...So Drogo doesn't want to attack the goblins or is fine with it?
>>
>>21957937
Oh HELL yeah let's bust some skulls.
Just giving the option of also talking to get info.

So, is the plan: "Talk to Gobbos, Attack Gobbos, Keep one alive to interrogate", or skip the "talk to gobbos" part?
>>
>>21957952
'Attack gobbos and take a prisoner'. Might as well try for whatever element of surprise ya didn't ruin.

Though, before that, how many goblins are there? And any other gribblies that might join in the fight, like the lizard mounts? Do we still get a surprise round?
>>
>>21957952
Goblins and three giant lizards
>>
>>21957973
Eight goblins I meant
>>
>>21957994
Eight gobbos and three giant lizards vs. Leod, Krago the Killy, 3 guard dogs, Drogo, and two magic-users?

...I'm not sure those are good odds.
>>
>>21957973
I think talking first would be a better move. Or, in Leod's words, "Your plan is dumb and I'mma complain about it".
Well, try it Leod's way this time, see how it goes. Can always try my way the next time.

So. Leod, Krago, 3 Dogs, and Me, vs. 8 Gobbos and 3 Glizards. Sounds like a tough fight.
>>
>>21958025
What two magic users?

Also I agree that those are not good odds.
>>
>>21958025
One of whom is currently badly wounded, and the other is being punished so no magic users with you now
>>
>>21958039
Didn't you have buddies with you are something?

>>21958041
...Right then. Yeah, these are crap odds. Not picking this fight.
>>
>>21958052
Also not picking this fight then.

So where to, Leod?
>>
>>21958060
Honestly? Probably back to town, or to another dungeon or something. I don't see any easy opportunities here.
>>
>>21958091
At least with just Leod, Krago, dogswarm, and Drogo.
>>
>>21958091
>>21958060
Agreed.

Back to town we go.
>>
>>21958101
That'll let me pick up some useful retainers. Gonna want a Dwarf because Dwarves are completely fucking awesome, and probably also a Cleric because healbot.
Also two dogs since apparently dogs are really good.
Now, I'd need to roleplay picking up those retainers. Or could I just say "Here's a mace, here's a polearm, follow me and murder shit, you get paid"?
>>
>>21958158
Usually people just hire their retainers without too much fuss.
Roll 1d4 for your dwarf, and 1d15 for the cleric
>>
Rolled 2

>>21958199
Dorf
>>
Rolled 6

>>21958199
Clerk
>>
>>21958158
Well, dwarves are awesome, but apparently Krago is quite blessed by the ancestors: He has 18 STR and a +3 mod on To-Hit and damage rolls. And to kicking down doors for that matter.
>>
>>21958208
STR 14 INT 11 WIS 11 DEX 8 CON 15 CHA 8
Sword, Chainmail, shield
HP 9/9

What do you want to call him?
>>
Rolled 3, 3 = 6

>>21958199
Dogs.
>>
>>21958238
What's the default dwarven name?
... Urist. Go with Urist.
Also I buy him a polearm for 7gp and give it to him since it does d10.
>>
>>21958223
Philgo
STR 9 INT 10 WIS 13 DEX 7 CON 9 CHA 11
Chainmail, Shield, Flail
HP 6/6
>>
>>21958260
Wait shit I can't do that, it's 2 handed
Fuck
Er, what's 1handed and does 1d8...
Longsword, which he already has.
never mind then

>>21958264
Hi Philgo, Hi Urist.

What's a Dwarf's governing stat?
>>
>>21958293
Strength.

Also, you should roll your second dog's HP. Dogs cost 25gp to buy
>>
Rolled 6, 8 = 14

>>21958293
>>21958311
Okay with naming the dogs "Spot" and "Max"?
>>
>>21958324
>>21958311
Subtracted 50gp from self.
Dogs do ... 1d6, and have +1 to hit because they're level 2 animals, don't they?
>>
>>21958331
Yes
>>
>>21958331
Better buy 6 waterskins and 12 travel rations for each of the retainers. Twice what I'm carrying because the dogs need to eat/drink, and I'm the one carrying all the rope / mirror / 10ft rod / millions of oil.

Are Clerics able to use burning oil as a valid weapon?
>>
Alright, it's getting late. Unfortunately I think I've got to step off. Goodnight, mates.
>>
>>21958352
>Clerics
>Not cleansing everything with the purifying flames
>>
>>21958363
Okay, see you.
I should be able to play again tomorro
>>
>>21958352
>>21958364
Then the retainers each get to carry 8 torches (6sp) and 7 oil flasks. (14sp).

Also, I notice Spot happens to have buggerall hp. Did I mistakenly purchase some kind of pommeranian or poodle?
>>
>>21958374
Tomorrow? k. I'll sit in town and wait for the rest of the people.

I wonder if anyone in town could give me some HINTs as to how not to get my face instantly bashed in for killing sacred bees?
>>
>>21958399
Hey, poodles were hunting dogs once!
>>
>>21958417
Let's see. My retainers need a ranged attack other than the oil. I'll give the Clerk 7 Hammertimes, and the Dwarf 7 Javelins. Even if they do have -1 to hit. I should end up with 180gp after buying and outfitting my retainers.
>>
>>21958497
Also don't dogs get an extra 2 hp on top of the 2d8 for some reason? I'm just basing this off the Wolf in the rulebook.
>>
>>21958532
Ah yeah, you're right
>>
>>21958548
Well, I should probably ask.
As a player, did I do anything wrong, or was there anything I should've done differently?
