Good Afternoon! Sorry I couldn't run a game yesterday, got called into work unexpectedly the night before, so I kind of had to sleep in.
Three new adventurers, Ragnar Blackhand, Guy Theft, and Fell, journeyed to the Pyramid of Cynidicea. There, they met the cleric Alvaro and headed down to the fourth level. They fought a group of skeletons, cleared a nest of rats, and found within their lair a sack of gold and four valuable emeralds.

Up!

My Javelins, Dwarf retainer, Cleric retainer, and 2 dogs are ready to rock.

Think I have any odds at handling anything solo?

What about other parts of Level 3? Please bring up the level 3 map.

Sure. There's three of you, and five combatants, so it shouldn't be hard

The east area is the Warrior Maiden's headquarters, and the explored room north has the path down to the tombs
>>
>>22041667
From Drogo's time with Alvaro, does he know IC about what directions things are in?

Drogo considers all Usamigaras areas Off-limits, but wishes to take Urist around to spot for hidden doors in cleared areas other than the Usami ones.
>>
>>22041657

If Alvaro, Guy, and Fell don't show up, how do my chances look of getting anywhere and living?
>>

>>22041701
Suggest picking up a pair of dogs and some retainers, then we'll be in pretty good shape.

I've got a Dwarf and a Cleric with me, and I myself am a halfling. You're a fightin' dude.
We could use some Sleep dispensers or some Box openers.
>>
>>22041686
He would also explain that the southeast path leads to a shrine of the Brotherhood of Gorm.
I'm assuming that IC the players generally trust each other, and during downtime they compare maps and notes
>>
>>22041701
Fairly good, since Drogo and his two guys are coming along. Level 3 shouldn't be too difficult for the party as is
>>
>>22041719
Drogo will thus avoid the Gromites because of ... earlier issues.

I wish to head Up right - i.e. Northeast. Assuming Urist didn't find any secret doors on the run through of ... room 20 and the cul de sac, I think.
>>
>>22041727
I guess... somehow I lose the group and find Drogo?

Opening the door you see a large room, with white draps all around the walls. The smell of incense hangs in the air. The floor has a great green carpet covered in geometrical patterns. In the northeast corner is an altar with a three foot tall statue of Madarua, holding a sword and a sheaf of wheat. To either side is a burning candle, and before her three braziers.
There are six women in the room wearing chainmail, green cloaks, and bronze masks. One seems to be a leader of some kind from the crest on her helmet, and she bars your path. She holds out a hand, then points to your crotch, makes a chopping motion, and crosses her arms.

>>22041885
Okay, put that all in on your character sheet

Oh.
I exit.
Do I know how to apologise in these people's language? If not, I say sorry.

I'm assuming these women are a separate sect from the women we met earlier? Would they know the preggo leader?
>>
>>22041913
You get the point across through your tone of voice and gestures, and she lets you walk away.
Going to the northwest room you come to a corridor heading northwest to a door. There is a crude image of a horned oval with a great circle in the middle of it

>>22041930
They wear the same clothing as the women you met before, and their leader's helmet looks like one worn by some of the women at her meeting in the room just south of here.

This room looks like a ruined shrine. Tattered and rotting tapestries hand from the walls, and a dystie altar is covered in similarly ruined cloth. Atop it are a pair of silver candlesticks, an wooden bowl, and a small statue of an ovoid with a horn, with an eye carved into it.
Beside the altar is a six foot lizard, which hisses and attacks!

The statue? I'm expecting cursed shit. Is it possible to attack the statue?
I ask if Ragnar wants to try breaking the statue open.
Oh, check behind the tapestries since sometimes there's stuff there.
>>
>>22042161
It's made of rare teakwood, just like the bowl. So yeah, you can try smashing or chopping it up. It's just a small statue, about eight inches tall. Urist says that he thinks they're worth something, given the fine designs carved on the bowl and their material.

There is nothing behind the tapestries
>>
>>22042154
Skinning that bitch and as for breaking the statue, its more of a matter of whether we think its hollowed out or not

Tapping it doesn't make a hollow sound?
Well, I let Ragnar decide if he wants to carry it.

Also, checking my self-made map, something is wrong.

I didn't see any hatches down on Level 2 that would lead to this area.

From what little I know of level 4, it seems the entry hallway is below this, and the pillars leading up didn't have any ladders.

I want to double-check the red marked area carefully. Groping at stones, pushing walls doomguy style and all that.

>>22042228
You keep it. If it's not cursed then it's loot.
>>
>>22042239
Actually that bit going west from the north corridor isn't a wall, but just shows you haven't explored down that corridor.
Tapping your way along the walls in the northwest corridor, you find a section which you can push in. It leads to a 20 foot room with a big wicker basket in the middle.
So Ragnar, take the bowl and statue or not?

>>22042911
Right. Forgot you mentioned that in the second image post. We've just got it mapped.
>>
>>22042917
I disagree. The air needs to flow to the area to keep the flames burning and ensure the yellow mold is destroyed.
>>
>>22042925
Right, forgot my basic alchemy for a second there. Fire needs a source of air. Carry on, brave Drogo.
>>
>>22042920
As you reach the long corridor headed south, Urist points out that the wall just north can slide open, but he can't tell how to get it open.
He also mentions that the floor here is sloping slightly downward
>>
>>22042937
Sloping slightly downward eh? Could be trouble.

Actually if the floor is sloping and there's a secret door, I'm thinking boulder trap.

Ragnar, hammer some pitons into the ground in case this is an obvious boulder trap.
>>
>>22042947
"Got it." Hammering in some pitons around the area he's pointed out.
>>
>>22042947
If the party left any easily movable corpses in, say, room 39 or 37, I'd grab 'em and move 'em onto the sloping path. God bless the dead and their ability to doorstop.

So, where to from here, Raggy? You wanna go west of 31 or south of 39?
>>
>>22042960
Thanks Ragnar. You're the boss.

I'll add some pitons to my shopping list for when I go back to town. Those things are hella handy.
>>
>>22042972
There are some smashed up skeletons in room 31, as well as a non-animate mummy
>>
>>22042988
Bit far to haul though. So I suppose it's only pitons for now.
Dry bones won't stop boulders anyway.
>>
>>22042988
"Mostly there" skeletons, remember. Fell used quite a few bones for his Rattleshirt costume.

"Right now, I've a hunch that south is best for treasure. Who knows what lies west, though?"
>>
>>22043022
I'm up for treasure.
Let us venture forth into that room to the south that was pointed out on the map with the door.

My lantern's on and consuming oil, I suppose I'll remove 1 flask from my inventory now.
>>
>>22043036
I'm keeping track of time, I'll let you know when you need to use more oil for the lamp
>>
Anyway, which way do you want to go?
>>
>>22043036
"Keep an eye out for an engraving. It should mention Alvaro, Guy, Fell, and Ragnar."
>>22043042
Time Lord the Dungeon Keeper knows all
>>
>>22043072
I will keep an eye out for it.
We going down the long south-north hallway and opening the door to the East, on our left.
>>
>>22043036
As you head towards the door to room 39, Urist stops you."There's a big pressure plate, 20 foot long and as wide as the whole corridor just ahead."
>>
>>22043092
Called it.

Any side passages nearby?
>>
>>22043092
Urist, are there any handholds in the walls?
>>
>>22043122
Nope. And the only side passage is the one to room 39
>>
>>22043144
Ah. I'm guessing we can't reach room 39, and the door will be locked, and a big fuckoff boulder will roll down at us and crush us.
Can we open room 39's door and go in without activating the pressure pad?
>>
>>22043144
"Looks like we're finding another way around." Ragnar proceeds to use a piton to chisel a message in the wall nearby warning about the pressure plates up ahead.
>>
>>22043160
You can go into room 39 safely, however the party's been there before and seen it's already been looted
>>
>>22043173
Can I 10ft pole the pressure plate from inside 39?
Can I somehow throw heavy shit onto the plate from inside 39?
>>
>>22043160
"Nothing in room 39 but a sarcophagus and some floating fire."
>>
>>22043181
You can try
>>
>>22043186
Well I'm tryin' then.
What do I need to roll?
Also Ragnar, get in 39. You too, Urist and Philgo.
>>
>>22043198
No roll. You push down on the plate, but it doesn't budge just from your weight. You could get Urist and Philgo to help you push on the pole though
>>
>>22043209
Ragnar, wanna try helping me to push this plate? I'm not fat enough.
>>
>>22043216
Against my best judgment? Sure, lets tempt fate.

Pushing the plate, the wall north of the corridor slides open, and a ten foot wide boulder rolls out! Being on a slope, it picks up enough speed to bend your pitons and keep rolling, and it goes down the corridor...

Step back into 39, let it roll past.

Boulders.

I move down the corridor to check out the room to the south. Any pressure plates would've been tripped by the boulder so it should be safe to walk up to the door and just open it.

[OOC: Was this a 2d6-type trap, a reflex-or-die trap, or an instant death trap, had we not noticed it?]
>>
>>22043304
It was a holy shit run away or 3d10 damage type trap.
In theory, it's not save or die. You could get really lucky and be thrown to the side rather than crushed utterly by it. Not likely though
>>
>>22043326
Well we openin' a door to the south.

Give us the glorious treasure and/or enemies, Mr. DM sir.

Rolled 6

Within this room is an elaborate jeweled sarcophagus. Curled up atop it is a nine foot long creature which looks like a big caterpiller, but with eight tentacles around its mouth. Seeing you enter it turns and attacks

>>
>>22043385
Right, let's get some tactics up in here.

I'd have Philgo do CLW on Ragnar to get his ass up. I'm moving in to tank the whatever this is with my javelin throwing. Urist can make himself useful and swing his axe at it.

You'd better start using your polearm when your ass gets up, Raggy.
>>
Rolled 5, 13 = 18

>>22043478
For now? Here's an axe from urist and a javelin from me.
>>
>>22043498
12 would be good enough to hit, so that's 1d6 damage
>>
Rolled 7

>>22043498
1d8+1 from Urist if a roll of 14 can strike this thing.
>>
>>22043507
1d6? Urist has a longsword, he does 1d8 + 1.

Also I believe I have AC -2 vs this thing owing to its size. I inform it to come at me bro.
>>
>>22043453
>>22043478
lemme know when I'm up so I can rip this thing a new cloaca

Rolled 20, 9, 18, 19, 3, 20, 5, 4 = 98

Or that way, sure.
First four vs you, next two vs Urist, then vs philgo.

>>22043524
Yep, CLW undoes paralysis so you're up this round
>>
>>22043531
Ouch. That's a save each. Lucky for you, Dwarves and Halflings are resistant, and only need a 10 to save
>>
Rolled 20, 1 = 21

Lessee. 10 or more saves vs. paralysis.

First we'll go with my save, then urist's.

>>

>>22043551
I see you are a 20.
I'm pretty 20 myself.
Urist just went into a state of Flat though.

Well, here's my round 3. Eat 1 javelin and 1 mace smash from Philgo.
Ragnar better be attacking from range with that polearm of his.
>>
>>22043582
>>22043581
12 hits. I didn't land a hit and neither did Phil.
Hope your ass is smart enough to stand behind me and the cleric.
>>
>>22043581
12.
Ragnar decapitates the carrion crawler. 45XP each, and 23XP for the retainers
>>
>>22043610
Urist is out for a few turns.
I poke around the sarcophagus with the 10ft, see if it's trapped or whatnot.
>>
>>22043610
Ragnar strikes a pose as he kicks the crawler's head across the room.
"Thanks for the assist, Philgo."
>>
>>22043624
You don't set off any traps doing so
>>
>>22043636
Figured that was necessary. You're quite the damage dealer, and I don't fancy my odds solo vs. one of those things.
[1 save or die per round? Yes, I'll dance with that. 8 save or dies per round? No thx]
>>
>>22043665
It's not a save or die. Concievably you could be rescues and brought to a priest with Cure Disease before the larvae hatch and eat their way out of you
>>
>>22043655
Pry off the jewels and gold from the Sarcophagus. Open it, see if it contains mummies or someshit.
>>
>>22043665
I guess its my physique and not my stunning looks that are keeping me in this party, after all.
"Nothing happened? I like that. What's in the box, Drogo?"
Helping pry off some of those jewels
>>
>>22043689
It takes quite some time to get the jewels out. There are a lot of them, and they all look fairly valuable. This could be a big haul.

Opening the grand sarcophagus with the sombre, noble face carved into it, you're faced with a simple wooden coffin within.
>>
>>22043686
Well, so far I have to note that only one thing's checked our HP so far this dungeon out of 4 encounters.

Lizard - bites your hp.

Vipers - bye dogs

Yellow plants - I don't know if this checks HP or not but I burnt it

Boulder - nope

Paralysis worm - nope.

I hope the next room contains skeletons or something.
>>
>>22043731
Just a simple wooden coffin?

Well, if it's not got any valuables, then I suppose put the lid back on and leave whoever's in it at rest.

By the time we've pried off the gems, is Urist back up?
>>
>>22043753
You cant tell without opening the coffin, obviously. If you do so, you see a skeleton surrounded by dust, and the glint of metal.
>>
>>22043753
I'm gonna check inside the coffin. Perhaps whoever's inside might be alive. Gonna---
>>22043776
Well, I WAS gonna be ready to stake whatever was in there, but okay.
>>
>>22043753
No, not yet. And while you're looking into the coffin, you hear a loud hooting and screeching apporach the room
>>
>>22043776
On that note, any way of identifying the John/Jane Doe?
>>
>>22043806
I'll just body block this door right here.
Can this door be hammered or barred shut from this side?
>>
>>22043807
The grave clothes are all rotted away to nothing. Only the metal objects within could give some clue
>>
>>22043830
There's no bar or latch, but you can hold the door closed from this side
>>
>>22043857
I hold it closed, and hope the hooting and screeching just walks its ass by and doesn't come in.
>>
>>22043868
Whatever is making that noise doesn't try to break into the the room.
While waiting for them to leave, Urist arises
>>
>>22043892
Hi Fumbles.
Planning on striking the earth today? 'cause you sure can't strike anything else!
Just kidding.
Well, now I'd like to examine the metal bits. Who was the stiff?
>>
>>22043928
Searching through the dust you find a set of lockpicks, and a silver pendant. Two snakes coming together...facing each other. But they're one. With a five pointed star below
>>
>>22043963
Hey, Usamigaras dude. Neato.
Take the pendant, pocket it. Take the gems, pocket it. The lockpicks are worth maybe 30gp if they're a complete set, and a lot less if incomplete. pocket them too.

So, we got:
Silver Candlestick * 2
Wood bowl
Wood statue (Cyclops)
3000 Silver coins
Diamond
Emerald * 2
Opal
Turquoise
Silver pendant
Lockpicks set
Sarcophagus gems

Ragnar, I'd say we head back to town and offload this stuff. I'm not confident about facing owlbears and paralysis worms with just the four of us.
>>
>>22044000
Seconding this idea. Between the two of us... er, four of us, I'd say this was a good haul.
>>
>>22044000
Give me a second to tally up all the cash...
3250gp. Most of that is from the sarcophagus's gems. That's 1083gp and 3sp for the PCs, and 541gp and 7sp for the retainers

You all get that much experience as well, so withthe bonus I think Ragnar is going to level, or at least get pretty close
>>
>>22044075
Would my retainers use their gp to buy plate mail? Do retainers do that with their money?
>>
>>22044085
Yep, you can have your retainers buy stuff for themselves with the money. And if you want to build a stronghold or place of business, you can have your retainers invest in it as silent partners, as the ones making the Honey Pot are doing
>>
>>22044102
Speaking of which, while it's a bit beyond your price range right now, theyre selling potions of healing for 750gp and curative honey for 200gp. Honey heals 1d4hp, potions of healing 1d6+1.
>>
>>22044121
200gp is for investors or members of public?
I haven't invested yet on this dude so I get public prices.
>>
>>22044121
You know what would be boss?
Poison or Paralysis resistance potions. Something you can quaff to get 10 rounds or so of resistance to that type of thing.
>>
>>22044121
Also, if I sell my splint mail, do I get 75gp for it, or do I get less for it, since it's used?
>>
>>22044141
Members of the public.

>>22044153
Something like that would cost at least 1500gp to have prepared, and the alchemist would send you out to recover a rare ingredient to make it.
>>
>>22044203
Nah, I'm not having items depreciate in value
>>
>>22044206
Aw bugger.

Well, I suppose I'll buy some Plate mail for myself.
Am I able to find replacement dogs?
>>
>>22044075

Also, with the bonus, I gather I'm 5 or 6xp away from leveling.

Gonna think on what I spend my newfound wealth on.
>>

>>
11 for Bacon, 9 for Beef. Cool.

I have 830 spare gp. If I help the bee farmy thing with 500gp, does that affect the price of honey quarts?
>>
>>22044274
Well, at least they're not called Trapfinder and Meatshield
>>
>>22044302
Yep, you'll get a free quart of honey every other day, and potions are 350gp.

The honey pot fund is on page 24. Add it into the building expansion bit, which is what's being funded now, to construct a tavern.
>>
Right now I'm thinking of necessities: armor, equipment, and maybe a pair of dogs for myself: Dubh and Dirk.

>>22044248
Last I checked I was at 838, but I'll go back and find my total xp from both threads.
>>
>>22044310
Heh. A bit meta naming your dog meatshield but I suppose that is what it is.
But you might as well name your PC "Oilchucker" and your retainers "Lootsink" and "Detect Secret Doors".
>>
>>22044356
Any suggestions on what to do with the cash, Drodo?
>>
>>22044380
Getting some Platemail is a good move.
After that, could buy dogs.
Might buy healing items.
Could also buy treasure maps or somesuch.

Or save your money until you get craptons and commission yourself a +1 polearm or +1 platemail once you've got enough money for magic crap.

Probably not. I guess I'm just brainstorming and not coming up with anything substantial.
>>
>>22044477
Not really...
There's a big list of potions on page 107 of the Labyrinth Lord rulebook. If there's one you want, ask me and I'll give you an estimate from the alchemist
>>

Well, it's not that large, but possibly?

I figure some bandit chasing might be less risky and more profitable than tomb running, given that trying to tomb crawl with and under-levelled party is inviting death.
>>
>>22044614
I'd say 2500gp, and the alchemist would send you out for something like a giant's heart or a hydra's liver.
