/tg/ - Traditional Games

File: 1355809590718.jpg-(141 KB, 1024x768, blue.jpg)

Alright. So, /tg/, what if, humanity advances, gets to the stars, gets warp drive or whatever, and we're on the way to a great sci-fi setting or whatever and then we start to make contact with other races.

They are mostly humanoid, which is weird as fuck, but hey, maybe Star Trek's original species bullshit is legit.

But then we realize that every single other spacefaring race we come across is magical. They have magic, can do magic. They fly through space with magic. Their technology is all based on magically cheating the universe. We have fission powered spaceships, they have big ol' Spacejammer style ships that sail on the winds of magic or some such shit.

But their magic doesn't work directly on humans either. Magic spell to blow someone up? Human is unphased. Human corpses don't work with necromancy. Mind control, zapping to ash, boiling blood - nope.

So, it turns out, that way back in the past, Earth was a colony of the ancestors of one of these races. Guess that's where all the myths of elves and angels and shit come from. However, this colony was assumed by the other races to be a myth - something bad happened to it, apparently. But regardless, they either created or birthed humanity, an entire race of blanks, essentially. Needless to say, some of the more emotional races out there find this creepy as fuck.

So now the universe humanity is about to explore turns out to be more of a fantasy setting than a sci-fi setting. But we still got all our sci-fi swag.

What will be the result of this?
>>
>>22095383
i know i've read this HFY before
>>
>>22095383
>>22095409
I have too. I think someone was working to make it a setting but never went beyond the premise.
>>
>>22095409
>>22095461

I don't recognize this as a HFY concept, but I want it to be now.

I want to see some Elven mages fleeing in terror from marines with fully automatic rifles.

So basically my answer is, humanity will be dicks.
>>
>>22095496

I want to see an Elven Star Ship gracefully sailing through the void, before some hillbilly humans ram their spaceship through it at high speeds while drunk.
>>
I think last time the OP had the idea that our solar system/section of the galaxy was like a null-magic zone, where magic had no effect. Then I think he got shot down because everyone was like, "well why don't the aliens just destroy anything that leaves the zone" or something.

"Fuck off magic users! This is tech space!"
>>
>>22095641

Hmm, no, I like the idea that magic is in part linked to biology.

Human space isn't null magic - humans just have something in their brain structure that prevents magic from working.
>>
So, what would you do with this setting? What are the major plot hooks that people ought to watch for? Opposing factions? How well are people accepted?

And I would think that our guns and equipment are able to be influenced by magic, just not our flesh.
On that note, what if we get biotech? Are we still effected?
>>
>>22095641
Well, what if human tech is tough enough to fuck over even magic stuff?
>>
>>22095678
This is a setting thread now? Awesome, I'm down.

What if magic also had a hard time affecting objects the more that they had been modified beyond their original form?

Like, a lump of metal is easy. A sword, well, that's a bit harder, but still no sweat. An industrial-sized machine has a lot of finicky bits, but if you push yourself you can break out some gears. A gun from the 17-19th centuries is pretty tricky, but doable. A 20th-21st Century gun is more difficult. A current tech gun has so much plastic parts, which are a non-natural material, that its a bitch.
>>
>>22095731
But that makes Humans OP. Why not just keep it to humans are immune to magic, but their stuff is not? Why would intricate pieces and parts of a machine be any different than small pieces of metal anyway?

Besides, I just feel like I've heard this too many times before.
>>
>>22095753
Aliens would adapt pretty quickly by making weapons that launched non-magic projectiles with magic.
>>
>>22095753
So? I rather like the idea of humans having at least some disadvantage.
>>
>>22095850

Humans have the disadvantage of not being able to toss fireballs.
>>
>>22096118
What about grenades, rockets, and missiles?
>>
You're all overthinking this.
Take Arcanum, but IN SPACE. And without the steampunk and the magic(k) being overpowered.
>>
>>22096171

I was thinking more standard hard sci-fi suddenly rams up against Space Opera and they beat the shit out of each other.
>>
My thoughts?
First Contact-era human scientists have a field day coming up with ideas on how to sidestep machinery problems with magic,a lot of disappointment about learning that humans carry a null field with them, and a subsequent investigation into it limits to find how to use it despite said null field (for example, a bubble in the centre of the ship separrated from the rest with a vacuum where all of the human element lives and stays, directing the machinery and repairing of the ship through radio, light frequencies, still-science-future-bullshit, etc.)

ALTERNATELY; that kind of social vacuum that exists in like all sci-fi ( where all the spaceborne humans have the values system of 2012 Americans, possibly made edgy'n'grim [equals 'P'] from pollution and overpopulation?) straight up evaporates upon seeing that the HFY in our veins protects us from everyone else's weapons and we SCIENCE everything between Sol and Orion.
>>
>>22097525
>>22097525

I would figure that some races would determine that humans must have no souls, and are some sort of abomination that needs erasing.
>>
>>22095383

This sounds like the most cliche'd plot ever.

What fucking sci fi story these days doesn't have humans as descendants of some ancients?
>>
>>22097754

That's the point. Having humans being descendents of ancients is so cliché sci-fi that this turns it into fantasy. It embraces the hand-wave as being magic instead of trying to just ignore it.
>>
Humans would look very out of place I imagine. All of our shit is cold hard steel, and the races see this as a true representation of our race. It doesn't matter what music we make, what art we perform, because all of it would pale in comparison to the stuff that magic can create. Humans wouldn't understand in the least bit, it would be like being color blind your entire life, and all of a sudden being told that there was all these wonderful vibrant colors out there. Sure, we know about it now, but it means nothing for us. Like you said, humans are blank. To them we would look like nothing but robots trying to immitate life very poorly.

One thing would be certain though, magic is static. You can only go so far with it, but technology seems to be limitless. Humans naturally would always come up with something to counter their bullshit. You can sling magic missiles? We can sling 40 caliber uranium depleted shells from a mile and a half away, shit like that.

Ultimately, I could see humans playing a very niche role. Every one needs a neutral party, and humans would fit it very well in this circumstance. We would kind of act like judges in an official capacity, or witch hunters or something.

Iron is immune to magic as is any material chemically bonded to it; iron is just fuck all rare and illegal in the rest of known space.

>iron

I know, work with me here
>>
>>22098231

Let's just say that it's pure iron that fucks with magic something awful.
>>
>>22098151
Ultimately, I could see humans playing a very niche role. Every one needs a neutral party, and humans would fit it very well in this circumstance.

There's this french comic "Sillage" or "Wake" in English. Pretty much this, except humans are psychic nulls and everyone else is either psychicly dominant or psychicly dominated. Also there's only one human.
>>
>>22098249
and thus the cold iron in folklore

and we'll say that other elements conduct magic, so embedding material inside pure iron, ie steel, doesn't work either
>>
>>22098283
>>22098249
The Iron Age was truely a harsh time in the lifecycle of any society, alas, humans are bound by biological iron as well and lack the capacity to form biomagical circuits

pity them for they must rely wholly on iron to survive the vastness of space
>>
>>22098283

What about titanium? Or pure Tungsten?

I can't remember if it's pure tungsten or impure tungsten that is brittle as fuck, or hard as fuck.
>>
>>22098293
I guess it would make sense that humanity's magic nullness comes from having iron in their blood.
>>
>>22098279
Well, if there's only one human, this isn't really the same thing.
>>
>>22098299

Pure tungsten is one of the strongest metals know to man.

its also very rare and very expensive.

>>22098293

This is interesting and excellent.
>>
>>22098323

>>
>>22098231
Iron wouldn't be needed by other races if they can just magic-up a void shield and sail out into space on a boat of wood, crystal and copper.
>>
>>22098320

I just want to say something about this because its always bothered me and I've.never shared it with any one else.

I've always really liked the water that has that iron taste to it for some reason, because it reminded me of the taste of blood, which I've liked since a child.

that's it, just wanted to get that off my chest.
>>
>>22098331
So, by that logic, all alien species don't have iron in their blood

I've heard cobalt is a good stand-in.

Hell, what if cobalt is the antithesis of iron's nullfying effects and creates magic if arranged in the proper chemical chain?
>>
>>22098350

Blood tastes like copper / iron mix more than anything.

five seconds later a "Javelin" mark 20 uranium depleted railgun shell traveling at the equivalent of 56% light speed passing through their invisible mana shield and hitting the ship directly, the force creating a 300 kiloton explosion.

>>22098755
no, according to DnD rules, the fireball is a magical bead of fire, like a matchlight, until it hits and object and explodes

humans null magic b- wait, no, humans don't null magic, they just can't perform magic, iron nulls it

so if the bead touches iron, the fireball fails, if it touches anything else

BOOM

I don't know where you guys are getting this iron thing from, it came from one guy. Read the original post, it clearly states we are all unaffected by magic, and we are null of it.
>>
>>22098762
okay, so humans can't create magical circuits because of iron in our hemoglobin

and iron, pure iron, defeats magical forces but not natural effects created by magical forces

>iron is immune to heat/chill metal

and now we know why elves use ironwood and mithril/titanium
>>
>>22098765
no, magical shields give deflection bonuses, they resist puncture

walls of force are no-go barriers because magic says no passing through this defined area
>>
>>22098762

no man, we null magic, read OP´s post goddamit
>>
>>22098772
iron alloys only prevent formation of magical circuits, that is, the formation of mana patterns, once the spell is loose only pure iron can eliminate or disrupt the waveform

>>
>>22098819

In the OP it mentions zapping to ash. This implies lightning, any naturally created lightning or electrical current will hurt humans. How ever magically created lightning will not.

Since lightning is natural, but magic created in this circumstance it should apply to all other variables too. Fire, ice, what have you.
>>
>>22098821
and walls of force are super expensive anyways
>>
>>22098823
Iron Maidens?
>>
Hurt durr wizards r alwyys superIOR lol
>>
>>22098833
I think OP means disintegrate spells

with a lightning bolt, the caster uses magic to create and direct an electric charge, so... at most, the bolt is no longer laser-guided when targeting iron/humans
>>
>>22098836
I'd imagine it would be both expensive and tiresome to keep up.

>>22098833
I'd say something made by magic wouldn't hurt a human. So a fireball shot at one would go off, and it wouldn't hurt them. The initial flames wouldn't either, but after stuff starts catching on fire due to the initial magical flames, then it would start to act more like actual fire.
>>
>>22098844
Yeah, that's way better better
>>
>>22098856
permanency is a costly spell as well

>>
>>22098773
I am the OP and I support the iron idea.

There ya go.
>>
>>22098855

That's still implying we could be turned to ash by it, which.the op clearly says can't happen. We are completely and utterly unaffected by magic.
>>
>>22098802

Well, from the Magic Races perspective it does. There would be mass questions on this, but I think humanity as a whole would generally be "nuh-uh, souls =/= magic!"
>>
>>22098844

I imagine Iron Maidens referring to an elite Anti-Magic mercenary force comprised of hot chicks in power armour.

But that's just me.
>>
>>22098877
Well, aside from side effects. You could squish someone with a boulder you magicked up into the air.
>>
Okay, so we have three versions of this idea now.
1) Humans are immune and cannot cast magic
2) Iron and iron alloys/compounds block magical forces and the effects of magical forces
3) Only pure iron block magical forces, but does not block natural forces created by magic, though guiding elements in the spell will fizzle; humans and any other species with iron acting as an integral component in the blood cannot cast spells, dragon-blooded humans may be the only ones exempt from this ban since dragons and dragon hybrids work because of natural effects caused by magical forces; iron is rarer than gold throughout the rest of the universe and a valued anti-magical resource.
>>
>>22098879
Yeah, I doubt many would take well being told that they don't have a soul. So humanity would probably disagree with that.
>>
>>22098896
I... Kind of prefer the first or second. The main idea is that humans can't cast magic, no way no how. Its both a gift and a curse, kind of thing.
>>
>>22098877
lightning bolts don't zap you to ash though, a disintegrate spell does that; but this is a universe 3 conclusion
>>
>>22098879

>>22098833

Maybe not... The zapping a person to ash spell sounds like Disintegrate to me. Pure magic to target. Fire or Lightning spells don't actually apply magic to a person. They conjure plasma and give it direction. Humans don't null plasma.
>>
>>22098924
We'd fuck with that direction though. So someone tries to lightning bolt us and it misses, because it doesn't have a target, so it just flies in a general direction.
>>
>>22098896
Universe 3 allows for Merlin to have existed.

>>
>>22098923
You don't. But as OP I was simply saying that I supported development down the "iron" line of thought. Am entirely undecided on the level of this immunity. And the idea of iron in the blood being an effect was also cool.

in U2, yes; in U3, those knights had to have inferior cold iron cast at great expense in order to be protected, hence why only a few such slayers wind up in the great sagas, cold iron could only be made by casting since a forge would embed carbon into the structure, allowing magic to conduct across the surface or, in the case of steel, through the metal via the embedded carbon atoms

I imagine that dragons are a "big kids on the block" sort of race in galatic politics. Maybe humans were created by a member of the other races long ago as a "dragon-fucking up" sort of weapon, but then his empire was conquered, the dragons threw a few meteorites at Earth to kill him and his crew but didn't bother doing a full scouring, figuring that his ideas were insane and not dangerous.

That would make it extra hilarious when a few million years later humanity shows up.

>>
>>22099227
Well, we can't teleport and our cold iron navy is mostly a defense fleet because it can't travel except by gravity-affecting magics (i.e. magical alcubeirre drive affects spacetime, not the iron on the ship); but we can use magical artifacts and affecting spells at least, but not healing potions or anything that affects blood directly by magic. Our drone fleets are directed by human consciousness via scrying/clairvoyance/etc ad make use of teleportation, just like everyone else.

Beware the human Dreadnought

>In U2 we still have magic gravity devices and artifacts, teleport is still deadly, potions and spells don't work on us.
>>
>>22099237
so long as you can draw a straight line between caster and recipient, you can get comms through; the sheer velocity of human weapons and the by-sight range of alien combat that isn't using epic artifact weapons would mean that the actual combat zone stays pretty damn clear of interference

the strategic zone, however would be prone to comms-static clouds and it could become a viable human tactic if they can hold onto iron deposits and manufacturing centers to pull a minovsky particle effect against enemy forces
>>
>>22099277
hell, humans are limited by how efficient the magical equivalent of the alcubeirre drive is; gravity damping doesn't work because iron won't be affected by the spell unless it creates a proper field instead of simulating it by magical force
>>
>>22099277

Wait! What race was crazy enough to make all that stuff for us?

I remember the face of the Blueblood well enough. Lean, pointy-ears, unearthly beauty, etc. etc. And that damn smugness.

He kept going on about treaty lines, laws of the ancients - all the reasons our colony ship wasn't allowed here. We tried to explain to him that we had navigation issues - that we NEEDED to set up down on that planet, or we were going to starve. That we had women and children.

He looked all smug and "lamented the situation" but spoke of laws "going beyond the lives of a mere few." He said that he was showing "mercy of a most beauteous grace" but not having the ship destroyed.

Thankfully we knew more about them than they knew about us at that time.

Old Wu snapped first. He had taken his entire family with him and he just snapped. Leaped across the deck, flailing and punching the hell outta the Blueblood. Everyone was stunned, but the Blueblood's guards pulled Old Wu off of him. I remember the look of rage on disgust of the Blueblood's face. I remember how prissy he sounded when he said that he was going to make Wu's blood boil in his veins for this transgression.

I remember his shock when he proceeded to try this, and nothing happened. And I remember that lovely look on his face when Tgasa and Jensen stabbed through the Mana-shields of his guards with the iron pipes we had sharpened.

We set up the colony and the military moved in to protect us. I heard that the Blueblood in question ended up in a Sanitorium, or something like it. Still to this day will scream about the "Ironbloods".

It's probably not true, but I like to image that we were the first to be named that.

I used to love fair-tales as a kid. Knights, dragons, princesses - Mom would always call me her little princess, even though I always wanted to be the knight.

Mom's gone now. She was the assistant governor on Ophidus. The dragons don't really understand our way of government, so they decided that "assistant governor" was about as close as they were going to get to "princess".

Apparently, back during the time when the Bluebloods rebelled, Blueblood princesses of the defeated nations and planets would just let the dragons eat them as part of that whole "victory ceremony" bullshit.

I heard they had to restrain Mom, since she nearly choked the dragon General to death on the way down the first time.

Needless to say, I was very pleased to be one of the one to test out the new Armour. Iron-plated, jet thrusters - and, best of all in my books, the pure-iron lances.

Dragon killing ain't easy, but we had it easier back then, I think. The Dragons we killed didn't realize yet that their fire didn't affect us. Setting up an inferno just made excellent cover.
>>
>>22099396

I got the first one - bursted right out of the flames. He was a big one, I recall. At the time I told the story like he tried to eat me, but I think he was just surprised, and I didn't have any control. Flew right into his mouth and put the iron right up into his brain. Came out of there covered in black blood and brain matter and as proud as I've ever been.

My unit killed twelve more dragons in that engagement. Saved the colony. We wore the armour back into town, swaggering all the way. I remember that the Governor's Daughter - the dragons had threatened the governor by claiming her as the settlement "princess" - had wreaths of flowers they put all over our armour. We started jokingly branding flowers into the armour - vines, with a flower for each drake we killed. I heard that it became something of a fad.

Yeah, Knights generally have one of the most dangerous jobs, but I'd say join up if you have the chance. If only for the feeling of listening to one of them just fall. Or, if you're like me, doing it for the princesses.

>>
>>22099301
We were down on Tassarral, colony under control of Mosrian, one of those Drake Kings; mopping up after the Iron Maidens had cleared out the orbital defenses for the troop lighters. One of the Maiden fire teams had gone missing in some swampy glade to the south and my boys had been sent to investigate. So we're trudging through this muck, right, and Hartford complains of migraines the closer we get to the center, like he's some homing pigeon. I told him to buck up and complain once we made sure our boys hadn't been fucked up by some asshole knife-ear assassins and he gritted his teeth like we Ironbloods do.

Suddenly, Jameson jumps his loader, Allen Carraway, as I recall, nice boy, not much good for else than lugging munitions though. Carraway goes down with steel cores in seven places north of his liver. We'd nicked some mana-shields out of an abandoned armory near the LZ and gave one to poor Carraway, slowed the penetrators down just enough to lodge in his vitals and rip open his left subclavian; he didn't last three seconds, not that we had much time to tend to him while wrestling Jameson down.
>>
>>22099519
Then she shows up, cackling like an ass, some half-dead blueblood that liked us less than she liked the locals, real nasty bitch. We knew mind control when we saw it, hell, pretty obvious with the way our media indoctrinates us with data over the years; every cartoon trains our kids to deal with this magic shit from day one, it's in our fairy tales for chissakes. Anways, Hartford goes ballistic, starts screaming and foaming at the mouth, and we think he's gonna go next, we're all gonna go and the last handful of us are gonna go down by our own comrades in the field. you'd think that but no, Hartford jinks between mad dog and braindead for a few long seconds while the vampire bitch keeps frowning harder and harder, well, if she had a lower jaw anyways, but frustration was etched into her face. Finally, Hartford gives her a thousand-yard stare that scare the bejeesus out of everybody, Jameson comes back sobbing and crying for Carraway, and Hartford just starts walking towards the deadblood calm as can be, just fixing that stare on her.

I tell you what, I never seen any blueblood that scared, she tried to move away but Hartford just followed her like some termie-bot from the twenty-nineties and twenny-noughts. Step by plodding step, he closes with this knife-eared abomination so panicked she can't even run away and guts her until she stops moving. Brutality is SOP with undead, you gotta be thorough, no idea where that magic is lodged in their body, so everything has got to be broken and pulverized just to be sure they aren't faking.
>>
>>22099493

Not technically. While Cold Iron is mainly European, Meteoric Iron, at least, was accepted as magical by many mythologies. Many cultures also connected iron with the smell of blood, and then connected it to the idea of "life force" - iron being the "bones" or "blood" of the Earth.

We recover and move forwards, Hartford isn't complaining about the migraine anymore, and eventually track down the Maidens. All of 'em dead by a stream, helmets off; none o' the stupid cocky fuckers could've been older than twenty. We report in and get told to wait for CASEVAC to pull out the dead, so we all set up perimeter and a couple of the boys nick the Maidens' helmets - better safe than sorry after that. Anyways, VTOL comes in on twin-fans and starts loading up the bodies; Jameson and Hartford are on the list too, psychological trauma and all that, Hartford was tougher than any of the boys and he got the worst aside from Jameson... and Carraway. So's I trot up to Hartford, who's protesting the pansy-hands chopper medics, and I ask him what happened. All he did was tap his head and give me a shit-eating grin.

Fucking asshole had a steel plate from a skull fracture back when he was on the Maidens. He'd figured out which way he had to look at the bitch so her line of effect was blocked out, can ya believe it?! Woulda done those boys in the glade some good if they all had some iron meshed over their fool heads, military-industrial complex covers up losses like that, a whole Iron Maiden team to one deadie, fuckin ridiculous.

Heh, I remember I was at one of the first formal dinners on the matter of "shared mythology" with the Bluebloods. It was one of the first academic meetings on magical interference in prehistoric Earth. Was a pretty loud debate - most of the human scholars pointed to Chetha presences, while the Bluebloods insisted that lots of ruins on Earth clearly matched ancient Alonalgar architecture.

Blueblood are a funny bunch. They aren't really a deep blue - well, not the ones I saw. It's kinda like how humans have red blood, but the paler of us look more pinky. They're sort of a really pale shade of blue... but some of them were varying shades. I think the reason so many of them were pale blue is because they don't get out enough.

But yeah, what I remember most was that Professor Yukuzawa was there. Yes, THAT Professor Yukuzawa. Anyways, some Blueblood started talking about politics or some such, and of COURSE the Tempest Disagreement came up. The Blueblood leader or whatever argued that there was no way the humans could hold onto the planet. He went off listing all the magical arts the Orcs... er, Urg, had mastered. He asked, more metaphorically, I think, what humans had that could counter all that.

So Professor Yukuzawa just sort of leans over to the Blueblood's empty drink, and then, without saying anything, just gives his hand a neat shallow cut and lets his blood flow into the glass. He then looks the Blueblood and says simple "Blood of Iron, and the willingness to have it spilled". He then excuses himself to go clean up his hand. The look on that Blueblood's face.... the utter horror. That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.

Ever seen an Urg? It's the strangest thing, but I swear to you they look like what I'd call a mix between a werewolf and a pig. That's why the soldiers started calling them "orcs" or, if they had a really lame sense of humour, "porks". On my ship we called them "Greenbleeders". Copper in the blood and all that.

But yeah, the Urgs are very firmly entrenched in the Draconic Supremecy. And it suits them fine - they are quite happy to be mercenaries. But they do their own fighting too - they're highly territorial.

But you shouldn't think that they're all muscle, no brains. They can work magic just as well, if crudely. But they are cunning to quite a degree.

But I figure tactics like that have their worth. Like in one of the first engagements, we ran into one of their big ol' hulks. Those things are hard as hell to take down - just sheer mass. Plus these greenbleeders were getting smart, and were deploying tons of chaffe to take the brunt of our barrages.

So that's when Captain Sukov, who was notoriously short tempered, gave that order I'll never forget - "Fuck it! Fuck it, let's ram 'em!"

I knew that iron-plating the prow was a good call.

Also, bearing iron weapons means you intend on facing down a proper caster and killing them

Casters are the equivalent of techpriests in the verse and dragons thusly elevated to demigods

Carrying iron outside of controlled warfare means to stand loud and clear away from the blessings given by magic users and the semi-benevolent rules of the Drakes

Anti-establishment Barbarians carry iron, not civilised people; even the Urg avoid using iron and its derivatives

I am now imagining some Mafia-equivalent force out there gets a human hitman / right-hand-man / Head and his "kiss of death" is just him biting his lip and forcing the blood down someones throat to fuck with their magic for a while.

The trick about it is, is that it will eventually pass out of them, but until that happens their magical powers would be severely fucked and they might just end up committing suicide.

Bluebloods fit the archetype of the "fair folk" - elves, fairies, angels, nymphs, kitsune, etc.

Urg are the prototypical ogre or brute - orcs, ogres, cyclopses, Oni, trolls, etc.

Dragons are dragons, East and West.

Race Profile - Draconics.

"Draconics" (the name they refer to themselves isn't well pronounceable by humans), also known as drakes, dragons, dracs and other, less favourable terms.

Draconics take the appearance of, roughly, giant winged lizards. There is a wide variance in appearance among the various Draconic races, with size, scale colour and body structure all be mutable.

It should be noted that in most situations Draconics do not actually fly. On their homeworld, gravity was low enough for Draconics to use their wings for gliding - they can only fly in other similar environs.

Draconics are the leaders of the Draconic Supremacy, a Galactic Hegemony that includes members of many other races.

The Draconic Supremacy is, and has always been, a feudal structure. It is ruled over by the Draconic Emperor, with each Planet having a Draconic King (The Draconic King, in the case of allied races, does not actually have to be a Draconic). The Draconics put a high emphasis on lineage and bloodlines - the concept of the human "democracy" was rather alien to them.
>>
>>22100290
Draconics have become, perhaps by dint of them being larger than most other species that encounter them, a culture that places high emphasis on war and warrior-culture. They are also highly advanced in the study of magic. Draconic Star Ships are extremely large, but tend to be undercrewed compared to other ships - much of the running of the ship is done through magical automatons. As well, Draconics, even with size taken into account, demand much more in the way of living space. It is not uncommon for Draconic Spaceships, particularly their flagships, to be the epitome of opulence, burnished in gold, with massive crystalline domes covering carefully transplanted and magically maintained gardens.

Many Draconics consider it the destiny of the Draconic Supremacy to rule the entire galaxy, and that their culture is necessarily superior. The Draconic Supremacy is notorious for the brutality with which is crushes rebellions, and the humiliation with which it burdens its fallen foes.
>>
Race Profile - Val'alatelle

The Val'alatelle (most commonly referred to as Bluebloods), are a race of humanoids with heavily resemblance to humans. There are many differences, most of which are internal, but many of which are external. The features of a Blueblood are generally elongated - with pointed ears and dark eyes of a single colour. Bluebloods also have blue-coloured skin. In most cases this is a very pale blue, but variation is noted amongst the various Blueblood races. In general, Bluebloods with more exposure to sun have a deeper shade of blue - Blueblood communities found on hot planets with much sun exposure have been noted to have skin of a violet, deep purple hue.

Many Bluebloods belong to the Draconic Supremacy and many consider themselves to be the Cultural Heart of the Galaxy. Even in War, Bluebloods will not participate unless they can do so with elegance and grace. It is said that Bluebloods don't understand the human concept of "artist" - for to them, regardless of their occupation, all are artists.

Bluebloods also consider themselves masters of diplomacy, but this is rather a fallacy. Most diplomatic advantage they gained was due to the military backup of the Draconic Supremacy, rather than any innate talent.

In war, however, the Bluebloods are not to be underestimated. The have long studied war, and consider each battle a performance to be executed with perfection. Blueblood forces are thus often very professional and expertly trained. However, they are able to be put offguard by unorthodox tactics and unexpected shifts in battle strategy that deviate from their idea of the "Laws of the Art of War".
>>
Race Profile - Urg

Urg are muscular, hairy humanoids with features that have been described as "porcine" by many. A good deal of Urg belong to the Draconic Supremacy, where they work often as conscripted soldiers and mercenaries. Many Urg, however, live outside of the Supremacy, often as pirates and raiders.

The Urg culture is based heavily upon toughness and the perception of toughness - and on the ideas of survival of the fittest. Although their society glorifies physical violence, they are also quite adept at magic, particularly of the destructive kind.

The Urg are adept at Space combat, building massive and imposing ships laden with magical artillery. They tend to believe in the quality of quantity and seek to smash foes with masses of magically propelled solid projectiles.
>>
>>22100194

This is a fair point, but I think Bluebloods encompasing "Ancient civilizations," like Elves, Faries, Atlanteans, whatver AND divine beings like Angels and Spirits is a bit too much.

Even if the exact concept of western-style angels and devils doesn't qualify, the idea of purely supernatural beings on a plane above humanity (as opposed to monstrous creatures like dragons and demi-humans like Elves) is surely universal enough. Pantheon gods such as in Egypt, Greece and Nordic cultures, Japan's good old Ten Thousand Kami and Oni, Angels and Devil, Tribal gods like Anansi the Spider and Coyote, enlightened souls that transcend flesh and time like Buddah or the Dalaih Lamah... I think these kinds of things are in enough of a vein to justify a race of their own separate from Bluebloods.

Also, a Beastman race would be a good choice.
>>
Race Profile - Do'Lu

The Do'Lu are an enigmatic race that has not had much contact with humanity. They are a short, pale race, adapted to living underground in near total darkness. They are said to have excellent Dark Vision, and excellent hearing as well. The skin of a Do'Lu is said to be extremely hard "like stone" and difficult to puncture.

The Do'Lu are mostly isolationist and were easily subsumed into the Draconic Supremacy. The Do'Lu are masters of magic, perhaps the most adept race in total at the art of magic. Their homeworld, at some point, had its surface reduced to an inhospitable Waste, the Do'Lu surviving by moving underground and utilizing magic.

The Do'Lu do make nominal contribution to the fleet of the Draconic Supremacy, in the form of amazingly advanced Sphere Ships. Facing the Do'Lu is never easy, due to their cunning approach to utilizing magic in battle.
>>
>>22100410
Hmm. What other ideas have ye?
>>
Race Profile - Hristare (Needs More)

The Hristare are a humanoid race that can be over-simply, if adequately, described as "lizardmen". They tend to be wiry and quick. Hristare are carnivorous and have sharpened claws and teeth. Common Draconic science places them as a "lesser cousin" of Draconics, but current research indicates many problems with this theory.

The Hristare are generally a gregarious race, living in packs and clans.

The Hristare are entirely subsumed into the Draconic Supremacy. Their agile nature makes them often used as scouts, especially in dangerous areas. In space, the Hristare often use smaller ships and pack tactics to cripple foes, allowing the Draconics to assault with little resistance.

Race Profile - Orae (Needs More)

The Orae are a icythyoid-humanoid race. They have a humanoid upper half with manipulator-limbs, and a long, muscular tail as their lower half. They are entirely aquatically developed and can only survive for short periods out of water. They show a remarkably tolerance to variations in water, however, having been shown to be able to comfortable exist in water of varying acidity and salinity. They have sharp fangs, having evolved as undersea predators.

so what if angels, devils, and demons were acclimated aberrations?

like if they take on shapes based on psycho-somatic concepts from the nearby mortal races, I'll call em stigmata for fun

Angels have the protector and punisher stigmata, but each one looks radically different based on its individual personality; demons' stigmata weights heavily on fear and terror; devils tend to gain stigmata that suggest seduction and corruption

stigmata shift based on the psychic impressions individuals nearby have regarding that stigmatic concept or emotion, so a demon will embody traits that errify those nearest to it, but always with a twist that makes it identifiably individual
>>
>>22100522

Is it sight-only shapes? What if a demon or angel is in a room with tons of people?
>>
>>22100522
I like the idea of these guys as a powerful political rival to the Draconics, able to sway other races through means other than force.
>>
>>22100558
only the nearest ones affect its stigmata, so if mortals are constantly moving about and closing and leaving with them, they tend to shift stigmata a lot

Draconics, curiously, have no effect on their stigmata, yet humans do and in some cases human psychology sets up a feedback loop that instils what their religious leaders have called "personifications of divinity"; demons are most prone to this effect and are even psychologically effected by human-induced stigmata

The Bluebloods just say they're mad
>>
>>22100558

Well, it could be a Vorlon thing where everyone sees what they want to see and more viewers costs more energy so they tend to disguise themselves unless they're very powerful or need is dire.

Another option would be that their shape is generally "cemented" by whoever they spend the most time around but can change over time if their surroundings change. Or their shape could be set at a certain point in their life cycle.

Random idea: Their society puts great importance on the splendor, creativity and artistic nature of their physical form. Rich families pay exorbitant sums to import brilliant artistic, philosophical and scientific minds to their worlds and help create their forms for the purposes of social advancement. The lower classes have to travel to other planets and leech brainwaves to even get a physical form, while the aristocrats and royals have the elite of the other races fighting for the chance to form their bodies.
>>
>>22100522
And since other than humans, whenever these races have been viewed , they have only been viewed through magic/in person so the stigmatas work on them. While humans may be the only things that can see the true nature of these races due to magc immunity/security cameras.

First came the radiuh emissions. Our far-listeners heard, and died, for the horrors of what they heard shocked them. One hundred seventy-five years after the Far-Listener Event, they came.

At first we welcomed the Ironborn. But then we tried to introduce facets of our culture through mind-magics. We found them soulless creatures, abhorrent and evil. We assaulted them with chairs, sofas, any thing that might do enough blunt trauma to hurt them, kill them.

They were only scouts. Their fleets came in endless numbers; hundreds of ships, thousands of strikecraft, millions of soldiers, all immune to something that was inside all of us. They marched ever onwards, driving us deep back into the Original Systems. Our weapons did nothing; they were all magic-based systems. Missiles driven by a magically spawned light, tipped with lighting bolts or fireballs did nothing.

Eventually, they closed in on our capital world, Tel'nah'len, and then they used nucuhlar weapons salted with iron harvested from asteroids. They left our capital world, our home world, a planet full of art and life and love and magic... They left it devoid of life. We accepted the terms of surrender they offered us, of course. Who wouldn't? The left us devoid of leadership, and placed the shackles of slavery upon our wrists. We couldn't fight back; there was no fight left. So we serve the Ironborn, as we call them, and we are glad to do so, for it means another day of life.
>>
>>22100980
that and they come in the three flavors with paired emotive responses

Angelic: Compassion and Wrath
Infernal: Lust and Greed
Demoniac: Confidence and Terror

they maintain cohorts of their most favored servants and confidants and keep them close, kind of how the asian leaders used to have that "you may approach within x steps of the Emperor" sort of thing

Wrath and Terror are the combative traits
Compassion and Confidence are the governing traits
Greed and Lust are mixed traits

Heirarchy is determined by a Celestial's initial standing at genesis, their Legacy, and the presence of governing traits, Majesty

Inferna are the only bloc that are ordered by political maneuvering and meritocracy with a smidge of Legastic pride like the other Celestials

I like the flavor you're going for here, but I think its a little too set in the demon/angel dichotomy. I also think its a little too focused on inborn traits when a big idea for this race is how they're influenced by outsiders in terms of their bodies and perhaps more.

Lets go back to the basics: This is a race of generally formless sentient consciousness. Now, they had to exist as a race themselves before they met aliens, so I think the basics for this race should be something universal to spirit mythology: possession. Philosophers took flight as clouds or wind, artists became rivers and carved canyons, soldiers were beasts and lightning bolts and wildfires, architects became mountains and shaped themselves into cities, scientists learned of nature by being raindrops or flowers or copper ore, living in a utopia as beings with no wants but infinite curiosity. After millions of years they would discover spaceflight... and thus was paradise lost when the first explorers returned with something they'd never had: bodies of their own.

The discovery that the emotions and imaginations of aliens could give them physical form without the need to posses was like a shockwave, and in the blink of an eye their culture became stratified as those who could acquire their own bodies became elites, and soon the elites entered a constant struggle for position dictated by the glory of their form.

These days the poor spend their entire lives in a rat race, using possession to serve as a labor and service caster, hoping to earn enough to travel and get a body for themselves, while the wealthy maintain a feudal power structure, personally controlling ships, soldiers and territory and playing power games amongst themselves with the goal of getting the resources to make their forms even more wondrous. However, they are still beholden to the ruling royal family.
>>
>>22101737

This seems like a good path.
>>
Our soldiers never had a chance. They had been taught the magic arts of war. To boil a person's blood, to freeze him in place, to cause his own brain to short himself out, to create vacuums inside them to cause them to implode. They were all useless against the humans.

The Ironbloods simply shrugged off those spells. They effected the body directly and their draco-cursed blood made them immune to them all. None of our soldiers had been trained to fight like this. They didn't even have a chance to look surprised before they were gunned down.

Mana shields were still all about defending from mana, to stop the very same spells that were now useless. They did nothing to stop the bullets. We thought we were doomed, but we were not going to let the iron bloods take out home without trying to fight.
>>
We may have just been laborers, but we were still going to fight. I had worked in one of the flame craftehouses. I knew no combat spells, but I did know how to heat surfaces to make them malleable.

Seeing our soldiers magic fail when used on the Iron bloods, I tried to use it near them. Caused the air to ignite next to them and light the grass on fire. I didn't think it worked at first, but then they started screaming.

One by one, they started to catch fire and my fellows joined in. Soon we had most of the Iron bloods either burned to a crisp or retreating back. We had saved our town...for awhile.

Course, that had only been their scout group. A day later their damn Iron golems came. Their had to be hundreds of them, just marching straight at us, covered head to foot in Iron. By then, though, most of us had been evacuated. We watched them move into the town gunning down the few of our people unlucky to be left as we escaped to the Void.

We might have lost my town, but we gained something for it. We learned the old ways of fighting were done for. It wasn't the soldiers who would be on the frontlines against the Iron bloods. It would be my caste, the workers, those of us who could shape elements that would face them.

The Iron bloods will learn that even Iron will not save them from the elements of our fury.

Race Profile - "Unknown"

As humanity expands to the stars, there have been discovered what looks to be floating ruins near "human space". These start black monoliths have been dubbed "coffins", to do a passing similarity. Many of these coffins have been investigated and found empty. Other times, however, investigation crews have had contact cut off. The next crew to come along finds only empty halls and the corpses of the previous explorers - but drained entirely of blood, mere withered husks. This has led to countless tales of "Vampires" throughout space. Strangely, no other race has much knowledge of the subject - it seems that it is the ironblood only that can quench the thirst of whatever lurks out there. However, some of the other races are starting to show concern - what if there is something out there not feeding on ironblood - but collecting it? What could its longterm goals be?
