I glance backwards, and Lancer nods at me. Hopefully he can find her quickly, or at least be in earshot if things go wrong. the two of them leave the warehouse to find Rin, leaving me alone with Archer.

I don't have anything to respond with. He became everything I wanted to be, and now feels like the world wants to punish him for it. As I stand there shocked, he continues.

While it is not possible to reproduce Excalibur, Emiya claims that it is possible to reproduce an imperfect version likely to drain him of all of his prana in a suicide attack. Shirou using Emiya's arm in the Heaven's Feel route states that he would be able to project it if Saber Alter were to give him time, but believes that he cannot handle the sword and that the difficulty of doing such a high level projection in battle would make it impractical. He uses it at the cost of his life during the normal ending to destroy the Great Grail.

I step into his swing and under it, countering with a kick to the stomach that he rolls back off of as I try to counter his advance.

"Steel is my body and fire is my blood." Archer says as he spins his blades into mine. I begin to realize, it's not just a form of meditation.

It's an incantation.

"I have created over a thousand blades." He continues. The blades are moving so quickly between us that I can hardly see them anymore. I reinforce my eyes to compensate. Then I realize that I don't need to.

His moves are my moves.

"Unknown to Death, Nor known to Life."

His spells are my spells.

"I have withstood pain to create many weapons."

It's not just an incantation, it's a poem. A description of self.

"Yet, those hands will never hold anything."

I understand now what this is. The length of the incantation, the power of the spell tingles at the edges of senses I don't have. What is this spell? What is he casting?

"So as I pray, unlimited blade works." He finishes, stepping back out of my reach as his swords vanish.

I see lines of fire cracking like whips and racing across the ground, setting a boundary field.

I watch as the lines dance and form a circle, and the world falls away. As a new one takes it's place, I wonder what's going on. I know how he cast it, I heard the chant and saw the magic.

As my vision clear, I realize I could do this too. It would be difficult, but I could, in theory. I can't even imagine the mana needed though.

Wait. Arcer is EMIYA Shirou... Clearly this means we're not "Shirou" Emiya.
A lot of things seem off with the backstory and the end of the last war. Kirei sees Gilgamesh die and was just as surprised as us when he appeared. Zouken didn't get the shards of the Grail and turn Sakura into the black grail (although still used Rapeworms). End of the last war our memories of Avenger were blocked, and Avenger gave us a gift.
We don't have circuits, but we're using our nerves as a huge circuit. Cain was summoned instead of Heracles, and that had to of happened before F/SA started. Too many things are wrong here. It's entirely possible that Kiritsugu didn't rescue Shirou, and some other child was rescued and named Shirou Emiya.
New priority: Learn EVERYTHING we can about how the 4th war ended. Too many things are different to use any of our metagamed knowledge on F/Z.

More to the point, image search via Google plainly does not work on my phone. All it does is open the Google homepage. Image search via IQDB does work, but it had no relevant results. Neither did the IQDB links to SauceNao or TinEye. So, yes - Googlefu on android is limited, therefore sucky. Thanks for the link, insults not withstanding.

"Anything I can do to help?" I ask.

"I managed to feed him the porridge you made before." She responds. "He seemed to like it?" She hazzards thinking. "It's hard to tell."

"It might help to make some more then." I respond. "As much as love can comfort him, it won't help an empty stomach."

Caster freezes. "This again?" She asks nervously.

"What, do you really think it's that well hidden?" I ask, looking at her. "It's visible to me, I'm terrible at romantic things, and we literally just met. I doubt carrying a sign would make it clearer."

"Well you're wrong." She responds, fretting. "We aren't in love. He just.... he-"

"Oh." I respond, comprehending. "You haven't told him, have you?"

Caster sits back, defeated. ".... I can't."

"Why not?"

"I can't stay here when this is over." She responds. "I tried to cheat, gaining more power and even a servant. I tried to find and change the grail to help me make an advantage." She shakes her head. "But there's nothing but dust and echoes. There are several sites where the grail could be summoned in this town, and none of them bear the marks."

"So what then?"

"It's hopeless." She responds simply. "He doesn't know and I don't intend to tell him. He's not a magus, so there's no way he could sustain and keep me when this is over, and I don't think I can win the grail."

"Wow." I say with a wince. "You're really optimistic and cheerful."

She laughs, surprisingly non-bitter. "I got to meet him. That's far better than what I had."

Don't you have a ton of ley lines to draw on? I mean if all you're going to do is maintain your physical form then couldn't you use the magic you'd drain from the area and the towns folk (In moderation I mean keeping everyone a bit fatigued) should buy you enough time to create a physical manaquin or something to shove your spiritual form into right? When I say I want everyone to survive I don't just refer to the modern humans.

Would analyzing a person's body work to find a problem?

"Alright, let me tell you something." I say, sitting next to Caster. "A few days ago, Rin and I had a conversation at school. We were working together to do things like investigating the boundary field and such, and needed to sneak away for the second half of the school day."

"What does this have to do with this?" Caster asks, confused.

"Because he caught me." I respond, gesturing to the man laying in front of us. "Asked me why I was trying to sneak out in the middle of class. I panicked. I knew I couldn't say taiga let me out, or that I was sick. I was trying to come up with a lie that might work when I blurted out 'romantic escapade'."

"Really?" Caster asks with a snicker.

"I am a terrible liar." I respond. "So there I am, disappointed in myself because I just told the strictest teacher in the school that I was skipping class because of a girl. Which I was, though it was just a LITTLE more involved than just going on a date. And you know what he did?"

"What?" Caster asks, smiling.

"He let me go. He assigned some mild work detail paid off retroactively due to all the help I did the student council for the sake of paper-work, but he basically let Rin and I go free. I don't think she even knows it happened." caster gives me a look, and I gently give her a pat on the shoulder. "Talk to him. If you're so convinced that you won't last another week then you've got nothing to lose from it."

Caster nods thoughtfully, and I leave the room to make him some more porridge.

When I return to the kitchen, I note that Rin is giving Taiga and Ayako a critical look which then turns to me in between bites of tempura udon.

I may need to consider serious military action to reclaim my kitchen at this rate. Also, Rin seems upset with me, but that feels like saying gravity exists.

"Shirou, why are you spilling important secrets of Magecraft to everyone? You know that's not something 'accepted' by the community at large."
