Samantha left Edwards where he sat, it was his own problem for not avoiding the rock and not her problem now. In the distance small tremors ran up the other Evangelion, hopefully it would be regaining consciousness soon, they were going to need it. The cargo carrier rose several feet off the ground, and Samantha could easily run under it to the plug. She didn’t have a suit, so her sync might suffer, but it didn’t matter at the moment, they needed as many people as possible fighting this thing.

Farther off, towards the bay, something echoed out over the city. It was like a cross between a child’s cry and whale song. The piercing moan ran through the city streets, those few unfortunate enough not to have made it to the shelters cried out in terror. Samantha too felt something grip her body, a feeling wrapped around her heart. Leaden terror. No time for that, she found the plug. Hopefully they had left the fluid inside, she began to twist the value to the entry port.

“What are you doing kid?” shouted one of the cargo drivers, the man had somehow also resisted the induced terror and was running towards her. She finally got the valve open, revealing the small entry chamber. With a heave she pulled herself inside, and turned back just before she closed it.

“I’m saving your asses, what you do think I’m doing?” As the hatch hisses shut she caught a glimpse of the man’s astonished face. Pressing a button on the control pannel, Samantha began undressing as the chamber filled with fluid. The bulky clothes she had been wearing wouldn’t do well to be piloting in. A sickening feeling filled her as the liquid ran down her throat, it didn’t matter though, there wasn’t time for that.

Swimming upwards into the cockpit she sat in the command chair. All her days in the simulator had prepared her for this. Gripping the control sticks, Samantha flipped the master command line. Readings appeared on the screen, dozens of different small outputs to measure her vitals. Clearing them away she starred out at the screen as the world materialized around her. Unfortunately with the tarp still covering her face there wasn’t much to be seen. Her first experimenting movement was pulling one arm forward, to push away the covering.

Above her bright blue sky could be seen. It felt good, it felt right. Her evangelion picked itself up, and stood tall among the buildings. Samantha could actually feel the ground pressing against her feet, like she was walking barefoot on asphalt. Several messages appeared on her screen, the first was a timer, counting down from five minutes. The second was a face, Edwards.

“What are you doing you daft girl? That machine hasn’t been calibrated for local conditions! You don’t have a cord! You could die out there!” Samantha flicked off his feed, but another popped up. This one showed a boy she didn’t recognize. On his face he wore a manic grin.

“Took ya long enough didn’t it? I heard another was comin’ today. Lets get this show on the road.” Out over the buildings Samantha could see something in the bay. A beast was clinging to the top of the Golden Gate ruins. It looked like some kind of ape, but with far too many arms. She couldn’t make out more details that than, but its jaw had unhinged, and from the gaping maw the terrible noise emanated. Out on the water a few more evangelions sprinted towards it.

The Eva was stated to be in the bay.

Either the creature in the bay with the arms is an enemy Eva; or an angel is attacking also; or it's one of ours that is an unusual design/berserked.

Secondly, the eva near us was stated to be strange looking:

Either it's one of ours, which means our side is up to something, or it's one of the enemy's which means we dun fucked up.

Samantha took a tentative step, switching perspective of being one meter tall to fifty wasn’t that easy. Walking a few steps she came alongside the other eva, the tremors that shook it had grown worse. Was he having a seizure? Samantha tried to pick up up, but instead the eva thrashed out of her arms before she could do anything. Dammit, he was useless. Turning around, Samantha looked for one of the elevators. Down the street one stood open, ready to accept him.

The maneuver to pull him onto her shoulders was a tad too much for her fledgling use of Evangelion balance, and she nearly fell over. WIth a hand against one of the adjacent building Samantha steadies herself, crushing the windows and what ever lay beyond. That didn’t matter at the moment, a few leaping steps carried her down the street and to the elevator. Depositing the seizing form inside she grabbed the umbilical. Wasn’t as if he needed it, attaching it to her own back was awkward, but she managed. The timer ceased and disappeared, and as it did Edward’s face popped up again.

“Dammit, if you aren’t going to stop at least grab something to defend yourself! At the end of the street we’re sending up a weapon box. Grab what ever you’re most comfortable with.” Samantha smiled, he was finally thinking her way. Another face appeared next to his, it was the boy.
“Hurry up already new gal, we’re gonna need more than us!” The evangelions had made it to the bridge ruins. Two of them stood on it, one was extremely bulky, done is white and yellow. It did not hold a single weapon, instead dozens of missile pods sprouted from its body. That must be the A.T. tactician, the fields flared against the angel’s. The two struck each other and send shockwaves outward, powerful enough to force up a tidal wave heading to shore. It struck the levies and send a flood of red water over.

The other was standing back the Evangelion bent low to the ground. Its entire body was shades of bloodied red, and from the inside of its armor plating fringes extended. After seeing the A.T. fields extended Samantha expanded her own. Once it completely enveloped her Evangelion the feeling off dread, which she had almost forgotten about, lifted. Her body felt as light as a feather. Only two strides took her weapon box, inside were a variety of things.

“Just grab one and get going, they need your support out there!” Edwards turned around, he seemed to have made his way inside one of the shelters. Another video feed seemed to run directly to the command bridge, “All of you over there get unit 31 up and running! Why the hell isn’t she out there?” There was muffled noises coming through another speaker, but Samantha didn’t head them.

The crouching Evangelion leapt, its jaw opening to reveal dozens of rows of sharp teeth. It tried to grab the ape angel, but bounced off the A.T. field to fall against one of the support structures. A mouth ran down the entire length of the Ape’s torso, leading to an enormous distended belly. Instead of legs nothing but a small nub of a spine came below that. Two arms held it up, while the others lashed outwards, as if to grab at one of the Evangelions. As the mouth opened the front of it’s chest lifted away to reveal a direct path to its stomach, an enormous amount of bile spilled outwards, throwing fumes into the air where it touched metal. In the depths of the mouth something red glinted, a tiny orb.

i mistook your purpose for an attempt at hinting to SF a particular reference point for optimal traumatization.

Reaching into the weapon box Samantha grabbed the lance and shield. Holding them she turned towards the ruins. Her boosters would let her make quick work of the distance, and hopefully let her give the finishing blow before the other two killed the damn thing. Crouching down she began to run, picking up speed as she approached the levies. Placing a foot atop one, Samantha launched herself high into the air. Mid leap she, activating boosters to give her semi-flight over the churning water towards the first piece of wreckage.
“Keep it busy!” shouted Samantha to the boy on the other side of the video feed. Next to it another face popped up, a pale girl she could only assume was the pilot of the heavy weapons platform.

“What the fuck exactly do you think I was doing? Dancing with it!” shouted the boy as his eva swung around the support beam it was on and made for another attack on the angel. It held out an arm, and from under the armor plating extended a dozen razor spines, each painted with blood. It struck the A.T. field, actually bending it back while it tried to pierce it. Before it could however one of the angel’s arm struck the pilot, launching him back across the bridge. THis time the structure couldn’t support him, and he fell backwards towards the water.

Luckily the entire bay was a graveyard of ships. The Evangelion stood up, and sprung back upwards for an attack. It was only halfway through its jump that Samantha realized it was missing its left arm, in the video feed the plug fluid begun to run red, stained with the blood pouring from his arm.

“Retreat Nicolas, you have sustained injured deemed critical,” stated the girl as one of her missile salvoes opened. Dozens of rockets flew through the ait to strike at the A.T. field. The force began to corrode under the weight of attacks, and one of them actually made it through. Unfortunately another one of the arms gripped it before it could reach the open mouth. The explosion ripped the flesh apart, sending a spray of blood out over the old iron.Moments afterwards the flesh on the stump bubbled, and regrew. However instead of one two arms appeared in its palce. The new powerful limbs flexed, testing their movement.

“To hell with that! I am ripping this fucker apart!” roared Nicholas. Samantha leapt between pieces of ships sticking above the water, every second in the machine she became more comfortable with it. The machine spoke to her, she could feel something deep inside of it. Each shot of the propulsion jet brought her forward. Finally she was getting close, only a few more leaps and she would be able to attack the thing directly.

Flicking the switch on the lance, Samantha powered up her weapon. The length of it began to vibrate, glowing pale green. On her final impact the ship below her crunched, an enormous portion buckling inwards. Her eva crouched, ready for the impact.

“Rip open it’s A.T. field,” she said to the others. Nicholas was already doing that. His single remaining arm was clawing at the angel. Each time one of its limbs would come out to attack him he would grab at it, his Evangelion’s mouth opening to bite through it, cracking bone and ripping through sinew. The patinaed glow in the air was fading. Pistons on the heavy weapon’s evangelion struck the floor, adhering it to the ground. At the same time the entirety of its arsenal began to unload. Warheads crumbled into dust as they tried to pass through, but the A.T. field was nearly gone now.

Samantha flew into the air, lance held ready. Above the bridge she pointed her legs back, and boosted downwards to add power to her thrust.

“Come on,” she whispered as it approached. The ape turned towards her, the dozens of eyes covering it reflecting her image back. The moment the lance struck the two were held suspended, waved of power resonating outwards. One last push, though Samantha as she turned on her boosters one more time. The lance broke through, cracked A.T. field splintering around her. The tip flew at the core, in the back of the throat. She was going to do it! She was going to kill an an--

One of the arms grabbed her lance, then another. All of them turned to crawl onto her weapon. The muscles were being torn away under the strain, but despite the pain it continued on. The whale scream became louder. Its arms traveled up the Eva, trying to pull the entire thing inside its massive gullet. Already the lance tip was destroyed, broken under its grip. She was being pulled inside the belly of the beast.

Samantha thrashed at the arms, punching one that tried to grab onto her Evangelions write. More were pushing her in, there wasn’t much choice at this point but to go deeper. Damn, at least she would die fighting. From her shoulder fin she pulled her progressive knife, and with the other she pushed away one of the arms that was pushing her further. Behind her the maw began to close, it seemed much farther away than it should be. The beast was big, but the inside of its stomach was gargantuan.

Turning around Samantha caught the last flecks of light disappearing as the mouth closed, it looked miles away, barely a glimmer in the distance. The light on her head flickered on, illuminating the scene around her. Darkness extended in every direction for what seemed like miles. Luckily the corrosive bile was being kept away by her A.T. field, around her for a few dozen meters the liquid was held back. Darkness, nothing but darkness for ever. There was no way that this was normal, this angel was larger on the inside.

Why though? It didn’t make sense, though, as Samantha remembered the Ikari archives. The angels didn’t always have to make sense, all they ahd to do was kill you. From the ground an arm rose, this one, instead of matted fur, was made of pinkish flesh. Bare muscle seeped blood at it grabbed at her. With a single swipe of her knife she lopped it off at the wrist. Another arm grabbed her foot, then another appeared behind her. Slicing with her blade she tried to get them away, but there was too many. The Evangelion’s jaw unhinged, and she felt the teeth sink into one of the hands in front of her. The taste of raw meat filled her mouth and she nearly gagged, with her free arm Samantha bashed away limb with her shield.

It was too risky to stand in one place for long. The only way she could keep away from the arms was if she started moving, but where? Samantha cast her eyes around for something, anything. In the distance a red glimmer shone, it was the core. Activating her boosters Samantha shot herself through the air towards it. Even at maximum height the Evangelion’s head didn’t brush the ceiling.

Each time her foot touched the ground a few hands would grab at her, but luckily their reaction speeds were low enough that none managed to cling. In the darkness the thing the core was attached to began to come into focus. The light from her headset the only thing to illuminate it. It, it must be the real angel. A pile of flesh was the only way to describe it. A mountain of living tissue, from its surface patches of matted fur grew. it was budding, creating versions of the thing atop the bridge.

At the peak the core stood exposed, heal in the hand of a single massive arm. Samantha gulped, in order to get at it she would have to climb up the side and somehow get to the core. Already some of the buds began to move, wriggling as they pulled themselves free. One had been enough to nearly kill her, a dozen would smash her unit flat! Maybe it would have been better to try and stay outside and shoot the thing from the bridge. Longingly Samantha turned back to where she thought the mouth was.

Except something was there, a tiny glimmer of light. Her sensors enhanced and shoes an arm tearing at the sky, sending a rain of mutilated meat to the stomach floor. The image of the boy’s face appeared again, his plug fluid now completely stained with blood. Both his eyes were bloodshot, vessels bursting from the pressure. The arm he had lost already had regrown. A bestial roar escaped his lips as he burst through.

Get the other person with us, stay close, we can deal with the arms that appear together, move fast, he goes up the side and we do our job as pointman and guard him from attack.
