Samantha looked at the back of the boys head. Walking slowly towards him she sat on the far side of the bench. Nicolas did not even look up, and she saw what he was doing. In his lap a small bag was filled with the food Lorenso had made them for breakfast. He was pulling off strips and throwing it to the one solitary duckling in front of him.

The bird gobbled up the bread, flapping its wings each time. Samantha saw a smile on Nicolas’s face, not the one filled with gleeful rage from inside the Eva, instead it was a much simpler, gentler one. Samantha just sat there for a minute, unwilling to disturb the exchange. Eventually the food disappeared and Nicolas straightened up. Looking sideway he caught sight of Samantha, his face pled and he tried to back away off the bench.

“Wait, stop. I’m trying to make amends.” Nicolas did not seem to hear her, and instead fell off the bend in his haste, nearly falling a top the duckling. The bird flapped its wings indignantly and headed back towards the water. Samantha stood up, and walked over slowly. She tried to keep a smile on her face, how was the boy she had seen tear apart those beasts so weak outside his evangelion. How could one person change so much.

She held out her hand to him, the duck had made it all the way back to the water. Nicolas starred at the hand in terror, and for a few moments they stood frozen, Samantha unwilling to back down. Finally he reached up to grip her hand, allowing himself to be picked up. A shaft of sunlight fell upon his face, the eye that had gone blood shot during the battle was still stained red. Now it was a dull shade of pink behind the lens.

"I'm sorry Nicolas. I didn't mean to remind you of anything or hurt you when I drew that. If I knew I would have never made it. I was trying to show my appreciation, when I was fighting you were there with me, and I liked not being alone out there. If you want I could show you a nicer portrait next time." Nicolas stood there, starring at his feet. Shuffling back to the bench he sat back down.

“It’s ok. The person you saw in the suit though was not me. I do not like who I become.” Samantha came forward, grabbing his hands and pulling them upwards. She held one against her chest and placed a hand against his.

“Why not? You fight well, you saved me. That’s something to be proud of.
The heart of a knight beats in my chest, and I think it does in yours too.” Nicolas pulled his hand away, and shied from her touch. His pale face was now stained red.

“I-I’m not a knight. I am a m-monster. I save, but I destroy. People die because I can not control m-myself, like Natalia or Terrance. They only keep me because it takes a monster to k-kill another.” Samantha looked at him, pity on her face. She stood up, puffing out her chest.

“Well, it’s a knights job to tame monsters then isn’t it! If you think you have a monster in you, then let me help slay it. Together we can make a knight of you yet.” Nicolas looked up, his teeth gritted, he looked about to say something, but bit his tongue. Instead a few tears welled on his face, to run down slowly.

The two stayed in silence for nearly a minutes as the tears rolled down Nicolas’s face.

Samantha looked as Nicolas’s retreating back as he started along one of the paths. Normally when put into a situation like this, confronted with an individual that acted anywhere bear this, she would have punched him in the mouth and shouted to suck it up. However, that just didn’t seem like it was going to work with Nicolas, and it wasn’t as if he couldn’t fight, he just wished he couldn’t. Breaking into a jog, Samantha caught up with him. When she did he didn’t look up, but get his eyes firmly on the broken concrete strewn across the ground. Eventually Samantha spoke up.

“Why do you feed the ducks?” Nicolas stayed silent, and Samantha thought he might not have heard her. They walked for a few seconds, she waiting for a response of some kind, and just before she repeated her question, he spoke.

“I don’t feed ducks, just one. His name is Arnold. I feed him before the other ducks do not like him, and if I did not bring him food he would probably starve before they do not let him have anyway.” Samantha cast her eyes to the sky. Oh no, he was even projecting. In a normal situation she would be have already punched him, probably twice, but there was something about the glasses, and the meek demeanor. It was like if she even touched him he would break.

The rest of the walk was spent in silence, heading back to the school. The couples who had been along the path before seemed to have disappeared, and above some of the large demiclouds had made it to the photostrips to obscure the artificial light. The school seemed to have become deserted as well, and they made it all the way into the basement chambers before seeing anyone. The instructor stepped out of the dueling room, face crimson with anger.

Now get over there and get in your plug suit, Terrance is already ready!” Samantha perked up, after having caught some of the projected gloom of Nicolas, Terrance and him fighting each other? Samantha went back into the crowd at the base of the monitor and starred up at the screen, after a minute Nicolas came out in his plug suit. Him and Terrance entered the capsule together, and a few second later their Evangelions formed on the screen. The look on Nicolas’s face when he had gone in was changed, the sad demeanor replaced by fury. His tears gone and a steel glare in its place.

Both of the weapon selections clicked down to none, and the evangelions starred at each other as the start counter ticked down. The moment it hit zero Nicolas crouched down onto all fours and sprung forward. In the air halfway to Terrance another one of his dirac orbs appeared. It swung toward Nicolas’s evangelion, and Samantha cringed preparing for it to be decimated like the other, but before it could Nicolas’s jaw open. From over the speakers a bestial roar echoed, and his jaw closed around the orb.

The A.T. field generated was strong enough to be visible, and seemingly centered around the roar itself. It came out of his mouth like the crash of thunder and corroded the ball. It began to shrivel, chunks fading away into smoke. Nicolas’s mouth close around it to tear off chunks, eating them. How was this even possible? Another of the attacks appeared and shot toward’s Nicolas’s side. A hand shot out, another A.T. expanding with it, to grab it, squeezing to crush the ball in its bear hands.

I'm fine with it. It's set after Eva so it makes sense that they've had some time to refine it and modify them to fit people better.

An entire swarm of dirac balls were coursing across the field. Samantha chimed in on the cheering, adding her voice to the minority that routed for Nicolas. Each time one approached Nicolas he would turn to roar, expanding an A.T. field from his open jaw to rip apart the deadly weapon. Samantha had though Nicolas was a pure juggernaut, with no special A.T. powers to speak of, but that roar was something else. Nicolas had broken into his stride again, and was circling around Terrance, leaping between buildings to dodge the dirac balls.

Terrance on the other hand hovered slowly, his hands, unlike before where they had simply lay limp at his sides, were cast before him to direct his attack. It was a game of cat am mouse, Nicolas dodging between the traps being lain for him. Samantha watched as one of the dirac balls went into the ground, unseen by Nicolas. It traveled downwards under the city street to come to rest in the center of a crossroads. Several of the other balls formed together, the black substance undulating as they coalesced into a single entity.

This giant orb hashed out, small ribbons trying to catch Nicolas. It chased him towards the crossroads where the orb lay in way. Samantha almost shouted something, trying to warn him of the danger, but realized how silly it would be. Even if she did shout like an idiot there was no way he’d be able to hear it. Each leap took him closer to the trap, Samantha clenched her teeth when he went over, hardly daring to look. However instead of a yelp of pain, another roar chimed. Aiming downwards, Nicolas had expanded an A.T. under him with his open maw. Somehow he had known that a trap lay in way, the city street crumbled revealing the dirac weapon. It melted away under the force, and the power of the blast jettisoned Nicolas into the air.

Flying above the battle field he aimed another roar towards the great ball, and with it dissipating nearly all of Terrance’s weapons were gone. When Nicolas touched earth each hand dug into the buildings on other side of him, and his feed crushed concrete below. Pushing off he threw himself at top speed towards Terrance, his body was a blur, like a bullet from the barrel.

Terrance’s feet touched ground, his hands waving in front of him to try and form another ball, but before he could Nicolas struck. his shoulder impacted the frame, and both hands began to tear away at Terrance’s armor. Arms strained as he peeled away an enormous steel plate and started to rip at the flesh beneath. Terrance, despite being attacked so viscously, managed to form another dirac ball, which began to devour Nicolas’s body. it was a race against time, to who would die first.

Before Terrance could consume all of Nicolas, despite making it to nearly his waist, a hand closed around some vital. With a sickening pop Nicolas held up something, the still beating heart of an evangelion, pouring blood across the city streets. The screen blackened, and the words “Victor: Nicolas” appeared.

“Why did Terrance have to lose! He won last time.” said one of the girls in the class. On the catwalk the two of them climbed from their plugs. Nicolas’s face had fallen again, but Terrance seemed happy, a grin plastered across his.

“You know they’re always trading off, Terrance will win the next fight.” The two shook hands before coming down.The two of them seemed to be talking, or rather Terrance seemed to be talking and Nicolas occasionally saying a few words. The girls were starring at the exchange with looks of malice on their faces.

Samantha detached herself from the crowd, it would be her turn soon anyway. The student were not taught to be bashful around each other, being pilots meant that at a moment’s notice they would be forced to strip and put on plug suits in order to defend humanity, and so there was not much time to be bashful when it could mean the end of days. Terrance came out first, still wearing the smile on his face. Samantha looked up to his eyes, despite the showing teeth they still showed the cold visage of a predator. A moment later he seemed to notice it, and the look softened to something a bit more friendly.

“Well hello there Sam,” Terrance glanced over his shoulder to where Nicolas was still changing. The arm that had been in the sling hung near uselessly at his side, Samantha marveled that he had been able to use it while inside an evangelion at all. Taking the suit off was a slow process with only one appendage. Terrance lowered his voice to a whisper, “Don’t talk about the match please, that was about as fierce as I have ever seen him. If I didn’t know any better I would have thought someone had riled him up.” Terrance gave a quick wink followed by a grin.

“I saw you two coming back together, what was it, a quick stroll through the grounds.” Samantha was about to say something to deny it, but before she could Terrance burst out laughing. Behind him Nicolas looked up and noticed Samantha, his face reddened, but he didn’t try to cover himself.

“Don’t worry, I’m only joking,” leaning in again he dropped his voice to a whisper, “I’m not sure out little Nicky would have it in him anyway.” Nicolas had finally finished his dressing, and was having trouble getting on his sling. Terrance tutted, but walked over to help him out.

Arriving this morning with him had already gotten the lot riled up, throwing her dirty looks when they thought she wouldn’t notice. Nicolas didn’t seem to like the idea either, his face growing even more pale than it already was. However before either of them could say a word Terrance held up a hand.

“Nope; I won’t hear anything of it,” said Terrance, and without another word he left the room. Samantha could have sworn she saw a slightly odd smile on his face as he passed her. Next Nicolas shot her a look, but didn’t say a thing. Sighing, Samantha went back out to the plugs, for her next match. The rest of the day went well, her hardest match had been by far Jonathan, who next to the actual pilots seemed the most skilled. The ranking tournament took most of the day, and by the time they got back the instructor only managed to squeeze in a half an hour lesson on the history of the Second Impact, saying that the first thing they would be covering was the Ikari incident.

“What’s he doing?” said Nicolas, more to himself than Samantha. One of the girls stood up, and the others followed suit to gather around Terrance like usual, but before she could he held out a hand. When he spoke his voice wasn’t the pleasant one as before, but spiteful and full of malice.

“It seems like you all have been saying a fair few things about my friends. Now, I pride myself on being a gentleman, but that same code of conduct can’t allow me to idly watch as someone cuts my own to rebids. All of you, and I mean all of you. Those two put their lives on the line every time an angel come, they fight for your lives. If anything you should be given them words of praise, not what ever you have been doing,” his face brightened again, the cold stare disappearing. A few of the girls looked close to tears.

“If I ever hear one of you insult my friends again, then our brief stint of exchanging pleasantries will come to an end. Now goodbye, I must make my leave.” Terrance grabbed his back off the desk, and motioned for them to come along. Nicolas followed quickly, but Samantha had to finish packing her bag before she left.

In the distance behind it several large cooling silos, purposed for keeping the evangelion simulators function, sat belching steam into the sky, “What we do, as a team is. None of them, except for maybe Jonathan, could every hope for becoming a evangelion pilot. Their opinions in the grand scheme of things are just dust in the wind, and why should we bother ourselves with them. I know it hurts you to hear them Nicky, so might as well just shut them up entirely? Right?”

Terrance turned back around, in the distance NERV 07 rose high into the air. It was a semi egg shaped building embedded into the side of the Gerofront, several tracts lead into the ceiling where the Evangelions could be launched. Even now Samantha’s evenglion was being prepped there. Maybe Terrance wasn’t so bad after all, he did seem to value the team over his petty girls. When he spoke again his voice was bright and cheerful.

“Do they have anything like Applebees?” Terrance looked confused for a second, then brightened up. The three of them walked towards the train. The interior was crowded by the sudden rush from passengers from school, but they managed to find themselves some seats near the back. Terrance sat on one side, and Samantha sat next to Nicolas on the other.

“Applebees, that used to be some kind of restaurant before the Second Impact, right? Seems like someone has a liking for history, or odd food, or both. Either way, I believe we can find something suited for her highness’s tastes,” Terrance grinned before letting out a chuckle at his own joke. The train began moving, outside the trees whipped by. As the train moved they passed other buildings, service roads, and the occasionally armed watch tower. The entire floor of the Geofront was covered with either NERV or US military operatives.

After the Ikari incident the governments of the world hadn’t been so eager to simply let NERV run wild, and while some wanted to keep the status quo the President had other ideas. Government inspections, funding cuts, and viscous investigations followed after the infamous day the world almost ended. Samantha found herself starring out the window, remembering the old videos she had been made to watch as a child. Next to her Terrance and Nicolas were already speaking.

“You really didn’t need to do that Terrance,” said Nicolas, but before he could finish stuttering his way through the sentence Terrance raised his hand.

“Nonsense, friends and comrades come before commoners.” Samantha watched the two’s exchange, and a thought sprouted into her head.

“How long have you two known each other?” The two exchanged glances, waiting for the other to answer. Terrance laughed and began.

Across from them Terrance grinned. Samantha leaned back again, knowing he wouldn’t let her catch a glimpse of what ever was on there.

“Anyway, where is Natalia? I noticed you didn’t invite her along.” Terrance’s mile turned slightly sour and he shrugged.

“I’d like to see the city how a--” At this Terrance leapt from his chair and held out a hand to Samantha. His smile had gone from good natured to almost comically corny, and he swept his other hand out in front of him. Both Samantha and Nicolas were starring at him as if he was crazy.
“It would be an honor to show such a lovely lady around you fair city,” from the corner of his mouth he shot a loud whisper at Nicolas, “Right Nicky, an honor right?” Nicolas nodded nervously, obvious not quite sure what was going on, but in his haste to stand up to join Terrance he tripped, and nearly knocked Terrance over as well. Despite herself Samantha broke out laughing as the two disentangled from each other. Terrance took the lead as they went outdoors.

The city really was amazing, before coming to San Francisco Samantha had never seen a real Geofront. The one in New Seattle was still under construction and wouldn’t be done for at least another five years. High above them over a thousand steel towers extended down from the dome. They pointed through the floor at varying angles to form a hanging city. Only the stuff at the pinnacle was actually retracted and could move from upper city the lower city, the rest that made up the town of Eureka Valley spent its entire time under the earth.

High above permanent metal walkways, some as wide as streets, strung their way between the towers. Samantha could just make out the tiny dots of humans scurrying along them, she wasn’t sure where, but somewhere within the forest of iron their apartment was situated. Several rails extended outwards from this hanging city to come downwards into the proper town. Terrance noticed her starring upwards.

“Impressive isn’t it?” Samantha realized how long she had been starring and tore her eyes away, a bit embarrassed. Nicolas had a weak grin on his face. To Samantha’s surprise it was him who spoke up.

His laughter this time was enough to cause a few people to stare, and even Nicolas let out some weak chuckles. The rest of their journey through the city streets went well, even if Samantha’s comment seemed to have caused Nicolas to retreat back into his shell.

The lower district seemed almost entirely devoted to commerce, and the part attached to the dome was where people actually lived. Dozens of cars traveled the roads and people pushed past each other in the streets. The town contained all the support NERV needed, places for their employees to live and relax when not on work hours. THey saw more than a few military convoys make their way along, large humvees filled with men who were far too armed. if they had only known that a couple of Eva pilots were less than a dozen feet away from them. They might have even gotten solutes.

Dozens of restaurants, clubs, and office building dotted the landscape. It would have taken a long time to see it all, but their group made it through most of downtown until Terrance stopped them.

“Now, I’m needed for a physical. The station is right through there,” he pointed to an access tunnel leading up to the trains, “So you two could either come along, or maybe I should leave the love birds alone?” Nicolas shriveled next to Samantha.

The relationship between Terrance and Nicolas is interesting so far. Terrance does seem to be friendly with Nicolas, maybe because he only seems to hold any respect for Pilots and maybe Jonathan because he's set himself apart from the rest. Though his interactions with Nicolas are kind, they are rather aggressive about it, he pulls him out of his comfort zone but in a way that you can't justify being mad at him for because he's just being "friendly". He's getting our measure now and seeing how interesting we can be, and he knows that we like Nicolas and he can use Nicolas to mess with us.

He seems a bit like a cat, we're interesting so he's toying with us. He doesn't seem to like Natalia as she's boring to him, he considers her part of friends and comrades, not a commoner, but she isn't interesting to him.

Well, no matter if he chose the term due to us or not, it's possible he didn't, he doesn't see most people as worthy of his respect. Samantha sidled over and patted Nicolas on the shoulder. He turned around to stare at her in a confused manner. The street was packed with people, dozens of them swarming around their small group as the exchange happened. Might as well get to know Nicolas, maybe she could even help him overcome that monster. Besides, he seemed a lot more calm than when they had been at that duck, just as sullen and nervous, but at least a tad more stable.

“Yeah, Nicolas can show me around a bit more.” Terrance waved at them as he retreated into the service tunnel, saying something about letting the two love birds be alone. As he left Nicolas’s face fell even further.

“Why do you want me to show you around?” he asked, starring at the ground as they walked along.

“Because I want to get to know you better.” Answered Samantha, they walked further down the street between two of the larger buildings. The district got darker as the photostrips were blocked out by the hanging city above. On either side of them the area was dominated by bars. Despite not knowing where she was Nicolas let Samantha lead him along.

“What, so you can fix me?” Samantha tried to think of something to say, but realized he was right in a way. Part of the reason she wanted to talk to him was to help him with that, monster, thing. That wasn’t the only part though.

“No, we’re comrades. We fight tog--” Nicolas raised his voice this time, the crowd has thinned since they left the city center. A man in a suit walking along turned to look at the child who raised his voice.

“So it’s only for you to know how to deal with me then? Don’t worry, I understand. The girls go for Terrance, the guys wish they could fight like him. No one idolizes me, it’s only pity. What is it, get close to me so you can get close to Terrance?” A few more people stopped to listen, including three boys who were just a bit older then Samantha and Nicolas.

From the ground he sat rubbing his cheek. The crowd that had stopped to stare dissipated, except for the three guys. In fact the city street was next to deserted.

“You want to be my friend?” he said from the ground, a few tears in his eyes, but the smile he had was actually genuine instead of the forced ones she had seen up until then.

“Yes, you idiot,” Samantha was going to help him up, but before she could one of the guys stepped forward, a knife appearing from his pocket. The blade switched out.

“Well, a woman hitting a man. That’s quite new isn’t it? Now, from those uniforms I see that you two happen to be from that school. It’s been fun watching you fight, but I’m not so much one for happy endings. Give me your I.D. cards and no one gets hurt.” The other two circled around to corner them.

That's it for writing today everyone. It seems that now Nicolas genuinely realizes you want to be his friend and are not just using him. Wonder what could have gotten him to have such a defeatist attitude? Anyway, you're also being mugged. We'll pick up here again next thread.

We're a NeoSpartan, so we've probably received a fair chunk of combat training, we've gotten into plenty of fights and we're obsessed with Knights so we probably know how to use a sword. Our first action should probably be to find something to improvise as a sword/club and bash them over the head.

Yui would disagree with you.
Remember, we only ever see Gendo at two points in his life. His two LOWEST points.
Before he met Yui (well, immediately after their first meeting, but before she can really have any affect on him), and after he lost her. We never see what he was like around her. He could very well have come to realize how badly he fucked up with Shinji, and see this as his shot at redemption.

The Ikari incident refers to what occurred instead of the events in End of Evangelion. What happened was that the cluster fuck of coexisting plans, instead of going off together to cause 3rd impact, was ultimately prevented by Shinji not being a bitch for twelve seconds and telling his dad to fuck off. Shinji broke into NERV with his eva, destroyed Lillith and Adam like anyone with half a brain would have done, and buggered out of there to help Asuka. Human instrumentality never occurred, and Asuka survived to actually kill the mass production Evangelions. Gendo was never seen after that day, it is believed he died. Seele was hunted down by the world governments and scattered to the winds, disproved of their MP Evangelions they could no longer do as much damage. NERV HQ was really destroyed though, but most of the cast survived that day.

Even now Shinji lived in japan along with Asuke and Rei. I am not telling you under what circumstances they live (married, going out, divorced or otherwise), but suffice to say Shinji retired from active duty as he grew older, eventually overcoming his daddy issues and becoming missions director himself. Also it was found after a certain part of the brain matures at the age of 21-25 the pilot can no longer link to their Evangelions (imagine Asuka's sheer fury when she was the first one to have this happen to). None of the main cast can pilot any longer unfortunately.

Either of them would probably kill you at the moment, it would be a tough fight, but they would most likely win.

For speed you're around an 8, toughness a 7. Your A.T. field is weak at probably a 5, your brawler skill is another 8. Basically you're a good fast point men and melee fighter, but your A.T. skills could use some work. This is partially because you've only ever actually been in an Eva once.
