>Previous thread >>22663639

You make a point leaving in view of the goblins, supposedly heading north for reinforcements. Disguising yourself with the alter self spell, you start gaining altitude. You are limited in your ability to climb, as you need to keep the goblin in view, but the weather is clear and you can make out the chieftain's bodyheat as he makes his way through undergrowth to the presumed meeting spot. Your sister has presumably come up with something for him to do that involves leaving her supervision. Nearly four kilometres up, you are immensely difficult to spot. A few scattered clouds make your progress slightly more difficult than it needs to be, but you manage to keep track of the goblin up until the point
he stops on the edge of a small, open space.

After nearly an hour of circling, you see a glint of sliver in the distance. You had picked this form specifically for it's ability to blend into the sky. It does not, however, disguise bodyheat, so you withdraw to a safe distance. The silver shows no sign of seeing you, so you position yourself between the meeting site and the sword rock and start gaining altitude.

After several minutes the meeting between the two ends - at least, you assume it does, you can't make out the goblin any more from your increasing height. The silver takes off, heading towards the sword rock. You continue to gain altitude, slowly moving in behind it. At almost nine kilometres above the hills, the air is so thin it's almost hard to breath. It's not easy to keep it up, but you need as much sky between you and her as possible to minimise you chances of detection. The silver hasn't bothered to gain anywhere near as much altitude, which is fortunate as she could probably outperform you in that one area.

A short distance from the sword, she casts invisibility on herself. You immediately do the same and begin to dive. Your sister is hiding nearby, out of sight, but able to get a good look at the caves. The kobold is lying in wait in the bushes outside the main cave. Some hasty work on his part has created a mockup of a red dragon, sleeping with its wings covering it's body. It wouldn't convince anyone for a second, but you've managed to enchant it with a simple illusion to make it somewhat convincing. A further application of prestidigitation has warmed the dummy to the point that it seems like it might be alive. It won't convince her if she's actually seen a red, but it should be enough to get her to waste a use of her breath. The kobold has orders to go for the eyes if at all possible.

You race down to get a good look at the sword rock, hopefully before she can reach it. A series of footprint begin to emerge in the gravel beneath the rock. She's climbing up towards the cave entrance.

The footprints slowly climb the gravel leading up to the cave before stopping as she enters. You now dropped your disguise as a blue while invisible, preferring the experience you have with your own form. Several long seconds pass. She doesn't seem to have fallen for your mockup.

The footprints reappear at the edge of the cave. Your kobold has orders for such a scenario and fires at the approximate location a dragons body should be. The bolt strikes true, you see the effects of her staggering as it magic starts to eat away at her. Her invisibility fails and she starts to slide down the gravel. Unfortunately, she manages to fight off it's effects, immediately turning to the bushes the kobold is concealed in and unleashing her breath. The kobold should survive - you had given him a scroll of protection from cold in case of this. Casting your own protection from cold, you begin to dive. Hopefully your sister won't be far behind or you will find yourself a little outmatched.
>>
You swoop across the cliff face, hoping to hit her with your breath. She glances in your direction and leaps back into the cave; the wind racing across your winds must have warned her something was coming. You breath catches her, though nowhere near as well as you could have hoped for. With a set of still smouldering burns across her face and upper neck she leaps out of the cave, racing towards you. Normally you would have thought that a silver would be able to catch you, their affinity for the air compensating for your greater strength. In this case, she seems to be struggling to keep up with you, presumably she's still feeling the after effects of the bolt of slaying. Daring to look back, you catch a glimpse of her chest. The bolt still protrudes from her primary pectoral. That would explain why she's having difficulty. The bolt might not have killed, though it look like a very close run thing, but it has sapped much of the strength from her wing.

A streak of fire emerges from thin air and your sister appears. Her breath manages to catch the silver squarely, but the silver manages to twist to avoid her face getting burned again. The fire has damaged her wings slightly, slowing her further. She pulls back, trying to cast some basic healing spells on her wings. You take the opportunity to cast see invisibility on yourself and your sister, so as to prevent any escape attempts.

The silver turns towards you again, sizing both of you up. It's clear she thinks she can take the two of you on and win. She might even be able to do so, though she may be counting your kobold out.

What now?
>>
>>22680603
I would assume our mother might keep tabs on us, just in case.

As long as she's alive and aware that actively plotting against us is a bad idea, our sister alive is a greater resource than our sister dead.

Besides, as long as she's aware that we're the boss, it doesn't matter what pretensions of independence she has, she (and her hoard) is effectively ours.
>>
>>22680714
touch of idiocy. No tactical thinking or spells for you!
>>
>>22680714
She can't see us now and she's trying to heal her wings, this is the perfect time to catch her in a pincer attack and knock her into the rubble.

As always, make sure to buff yourself first with whatever we've got.
>>
>>22680790
We... We have that?

Wait, she has spell resistance. Don't do that.
>>
>>22680714
Hope the kobold will use this small pause to shoot another bolt. I'm a bit greedy, so a normal one would be better, just to distract her momentarily and give us a chance to attack.

Nothing else to do than that.
Try to synchronize our attacks with our sister, for example let one of us expose itself to bait the silver into attacking and giving a chance for the other to strike.
As soon as we both can, breathe simulatenously from two directions.
>>
>>22680714
Wings fucked up, mobility shot, severe pain. Not bad. Harry her further and pounce upon her. Aim for backbreaking by way of weight and force, and if we can't manage that, rip a wing free of its socket.

Don't know, don't care. She was a nuisance to our sister. Sister helped us remove a similar nuisance. Now we remove hers. We care little for the metallic-chromatic rivalry.

>>22681196
Some people think it is a good idea. I find it foolish. Perhaps later we may find flexible metallics who will make useful allies, but we will not make an ally out of this silver.
>>
>>22681176
OP said silvers are wannabe crusaders of justice, especially when it comes to interfering with other dragons, so it must mean that pride got the best of her. She certainly fell for the trap without bringing anyone else.

As for trying to bring silver for our side? That's easy. After she's been captured or defeated, we leave sister her part of the horde and then seize the dragon for ourselves, crippling her so she can't escape us. Then we start the long process of indocrination, at first promising to keep her hoard intact and once we've made progress slowly letting her restore her limbs. Once she's a 'red' (crying lenin) there'll be no need to keep her hoard separate and we'll just assimilate it.
>>
>>22681196

Yes, that would be probably the most prudent course of action.

Having a nice metallic dragon lady for our adolescent needs might be a pleasant turn of events though.

Her parting with her hoard or at least significant portion of it in favour of our sister would have to be part of the deal, though, along with her oath of fealty. Which is unlikely to happen so we're probably just ending up killing her.

Unless she ends up beating the two of us. Let's hope it won't come to that.

"Wings, you take her right," you shout to your sister. You had established long ago that when you order a specific direction, do the exact opposite, it helps keep the enemy confused.

With a single hard flap you are both once more racing towards the silver. She responds in kind, though more cautiously when it comes to accelerating. You cast true strike in preparation and hear your sister do the same.

A few second from impact, you start to see her brace for a sudden flap. She knows what you have in mind.

You twist your wings hard, to bleed off speed. Your sister fails to notice her posture and continues, swooping across to attack her left wing. The sudden change in directions briefly confuses the silver, her breath failing to hit your sister as neatly as it should have. The protection spell prevents actual injury, but she still looks quite uncomfortable as the ice crystals cover her. The silver's wings flap hard and your sister missed her target. Claws flash out, catching your sister's hind leg and tearing into flesh.

The sudden change of direction and her focus on your sister allows you to catch the silvers wings, though not hitting it as hard as you would have liked. You direct your breath at her, engulfing the front of her body in fire. digging your claws into the soft membrane of her wing, you beat your own once more. Though you have to be careful not to place your own wings within easy reach of the silver, you are able to drag her wing down and start bending it in ways her scream makes it clear it is not meant to.

She flaps again, freeing her wing, though it causes her obvious pain to do so. Her right wing is barely functional. She can stay in the air, but she won't be outmaneuvering either of you.

All three of you have levelled off again. The silver is looking at lot less self confident, though your sister may have some difficulty if this ends up being fought on the ground.

What now?

She may have a grand plan of her own but but if she does we're a side story in regards to it.

I'd like to take her as a minion, but I don't know how to accomplish that.

If we kill her, we must find her hoard.
After that, I want to try to convince our sister to give up on this shitty place and these shitty servants and come live next to us and help us to rule over valuable people.
Tell her about our plans for an empire.
With the both of us, we can accomplish more, and faster, than the sum of what we could do separately. We need her help to kill older dragons. She needs our help to know when and how to strike, and also to deal with humanoids.

Looking at her right wing it's clear there's only a little more work to do before she's in serious trouble. You don't need to tell your sister to focus on it this time. The three of you begin your attack runs. The cold determination on the silver's face contrasting with the gleeful bloodlust on your sister's and your own.

Seconds before you strike, the silver casts a spell. For a moment you wonder what she just did when you realise, she turned invisible. The amused glee at the thought of her surprise when you show you can still see her almost makes you miss the chance to cast true strike.

Your sister actually does get distracted enough that she misses the chance. The silver twists mid air, turning her limping flight into a lunge and managed to close her jaws around your sister's tail. At this point, you slam into the silvers wing. The pain of the impact forces her to let go and she blasts your sister with freezing breath. She seems to have the sense to try and finish off the one that's already injured before taking you on at least. The blast of cold is enough to overcome your sister's protections and you see ice crystals rapidly forming on your sister's supercooled scales.

Your claws dig into the soft wing tissue once more. The frenzied battle has been invigorating enough that your breath has already recovered and you blast her with it again. She tries to pull her wing away, but the pain is too much this time. You pull back, keeping your wings carefully out of reach, before using them as an airbrake. The sudden change in momentum catches the silver by surprise and you feel the wrist joint of her wing snap.

She screams in agonised rage as she plummets towards the ground. Your enraged sister diving after her and releasing her breath at the crippled silver. She eventually casts featherfall, slowing her descent enough to avoid death. With a frantic look around, she sprints for the cave, hoping to force you to engage on more even terms.

What Now?

More seriously, though I am reluctant to sell the remains of our draconic enemies, I'm too greedy not to make use of them, to fashion weapons and armor and magic items.
As long as we keep them in our hoard, and only loan them to our champions, it's not too disrespectful, right ?
After all we're chaotic.

There's only one possible location the silver could be headed for: the cave. She can take cover from aerial attack there and force you to fight her one at a time.

She has to get there first.

Your sister makes another pass, setting the terrain surrounding the silver ablaze. Your target soon clears the burning land, only for you to add your own breath to the conflagration. She continues to rush towards the cave, almost within reach of the kobolds crossbow by this point. Your sister releases her breath once more and this time tackles the silver, knocking both of them to the ground in a heap of blood, flames and smouldering flesh. You could just leave her to finish it, but your too involved in this to leave the fun part to your sister and dive in too, adding your own breath.

When the flames clear, your sister has her jaws around the silver's throat. The silver is not done yet though. She digs her claws into your sister's already wounded thigh, eliciting a pain snarl. At this point you crash into the silver with as much force as you're willing to risk. The blow tears the silver's claws from you sister and you begin mauling her. You add your own jaws lower down the silver's neck, grip with you forepaws and start kicking with your back legs. The silver tries to pull you off, her claws digging painfully deep into your neck, but your hind legs soon gain purchase and you feel flesh start to tear.
>>
Between being choked by your sister and disemboweled by yourself, the silver is finished. You can't see her face, but from the way she stops trying to fight back and starts desperately trying to free herself, you can tell she knows it too.

In less than a minute, the silver stops moving. You release your grip on her and check. She is indeed dead. Your sister lets go and examines the corpse.

"We did it," she sounds as if she's having a hard time believing it.

"I never doubted we would." You didn't even have to get the kobold to waste a second bolt on it.

"Easy for you to say, you weren't the one she paid attention to." she has a fair point, so you let it go.

"Well, I believe that is the end of the matter. I suppose this is the point at which I wish you farewell, sister."

"Yes, yes." She seems more interested in examining the dead silver.

Do yo wish to depart, or is there anything here you want to do first?

Sell it gently, toss in some flattery for our [beautiful/tough/deadly] sister, maybe offer to help her find the silver's hoard, or what have you. This'll be great. I like the idea of annual (or whatever) meetings for chats and exchanging gifts, its, A, a chance to show off, (we an afford to give X gift,) B, a chance to be friendly with a peer/friend, C, gives us an ally to call on in need, and D, gives all the same benefits to her, and a long-term interest on both our parts not to mess with the other. After all, if we don't, we get to keep an ally and receive gifts on a regular basis!

Really, dragons have more reason to not give a fuck than other creatures, especially if you're going by the stuff that says they can internally control whether or not to conceive.

I also happen to believe (but can't cite) that brother-sister incest is the safest type, at least among humans. Lots of nobility has practiced it, I think.

Have you ever seen the shape of King Tut's skull?

Brother/Sister and other inside the nuclear family versions of incest are horribad. First Cousin incest generally takes 5+ generations to start to fall below the bell curve. Brother/sister starts to produce substandard progeny in the first or second generation.

King Tut was 4th gen brother/sister, and it's why he looked like a fucking space alien and had all sorts of congenital defects.

Brother sister is pretty damn bad actually, up there with parent-child.

You're pretty much guaranteed to have 50% of the genetic material of your parent, and anywhere between 0 and 100% of your sibling, could theoretically be fairly safe, but on average it's as bad as with a parent.

And using nobility as an example of it being safe, well let's just say pic related (note this was a painter trying to not get his head chopped off so it's safe to assume he was even worse ...)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_II_of_Spain
>>
>>22683174
Parent child is guaranteed 50% commonality, brother sister is like 37.5 average commonality.

First cousins is like 12.5% average commonality

So yes, it is MARGINALLY less risky.

The battle was hard fought and although you won, it was only because of the help from your sister. She is no doubt keenly aware of how close see came to dying. As you're unlikely to get a better chance, you decide to try and make your arrangement permanent.

"You realise that this was only possible because we were working together, yes?"

She rolls her eyes. "I know you helped Considerably. You don't need to remind me, I'm not about to forget."

"Not quite what I meant. This battle would have been fatally one sided for either of us alone. But as we were working together, we prevailed."

She turns to face you. "And you want to maintain such an arrangement?"

You nod. "Indeed. It would only be done rarely, for battles such as this, but it could prove a major asset should either of us find ourselves outmatched."

She stares at you for a few moments. "I suppose we could. It's worked well so far. Though I don't want to see you asking me for help with every pest that emerges."

You scoff at this. "Do I look like a blue? No I would only ask for your assistance in the most dire of circumstances and I expect you to do the same."

She nods. "We have a deal then. We both help each other out, if things get serious enough."

You let a small grin show. "Excellent. Now, I believe you have some goblins to chastise."

She grins at this. "Oh I have not forgotten them. But they aren't going anywhere."

"I didn't think you would. One last thing to consider, we should maintain at least semi-regular contact for the near future in case any relatives," you glance at the dead silver, "come investigating."

She glances at the silver. "You have a point there. I don't suppose your pet wizard put put something together? I'm not flying north every week."

"I'll have him come up with something. out of curiosity, have you decided on a proper name yet?"

He blinks in surprise at this. "Lord?"

"You faced down a dragon on my orders. You didn't attempt to flee or hesitate and, thanks to the gifts I had presented you, you were able to wound it. Your loyalty and courage are an example for kobolds everywhere."

Your little servant looks like he is about to burst into tears of joy at this. "T-Thank you, Great One. I will always be your faithful servant."

You can't help but chuckle slightly in satisfaction at the last part. "I don't doubt it."

With the silver dead and your agreement with Korinthkras secured, you have no reason to stay. The morning after the silver's death, you finally head home. The flight is a little more tedious than you remember, but it's tempered by the satisfaction of knowing that your own lair waits for you, full of *your* treasure and *your* servants. The day soon passes and before long you find yourself gliding down to the cliff face you now live in.

Your kobolds cheer as you appear, and after a quick discussion of events Yiknik is hailed as a hero for going with you on your journey. They don't know the whole story and never will. As far as they are concerned, this was a test of loyalty for him and he passed with flying colours. No need to tell them you need a kobolds help to survive a fight with another dragon.

You have your own lair, a respectable hoard and several hundred servants. You bask in the small enchanted fire that has been built into an alcove in the back of your lair. Surrounded by that which is undeniably yours, you finally feel like a proper dragon.

In your absence, your trade company has managed to acquire thirty eight lizardmen, with a roughly even gender split. They have also bought up a decent portion of the docks, using their own funds.

You now have 20,000gp in currency and gems, 28,000gp in items, a village of 153 elves (11 are children) and a nascent cult of 16 members among the elves. You also have a small lair containing 160 kobolds, a trading company with around 80 employees, 50 spies and traders (there's little practical difference) on the mainland and 50 lizardfolk slaves.

That's all for tonight, next week's update will be at the same time (2100-2200 gmt, friday 25th).

The lizardfolk are being acquired simply because you can (as far as I can tell).

>>
>>22683673
A better question; Why would we not be acquiring Lizardmen?
>>
>>22683729
Point. They're ace minion material for dragons. Worshipful like kobolds, but stronger and more combat-capable. Maybe we can get some glorious species-blind civilization going under our benevolent overlordship.

Or we can just use them as sword-fodder. Really, no matter what we do with them, it'd be hard for them not to be useful.
>>
>>22683719
Are we already mature adult? (I assume that's what the R-MA stands for?)
>>
>>22683673
My personal plan is to interbreed with them so we can get flying lizardmen. If we can't do that, they will make good minions.
>>
>>22683535
>>22683580
OP writes well, but he handles most of the dialogue. We usually only give the general direction and he writes in.
I guess it is because the rythm of these threads is slow. It took three updates, about 30 minutes apart each, to do the fight, and one more, one hour later, to reach the discussion with our sister.
As such, we can't really interact in a discussion. We can't tell what to say according to the reaction of the other characters during the conversation. We set the direction and watch it happen.
I enjoy it regardless, but I prefer macromanaging, as it involves the players more in the format of this quest.

While we're talking about it, I think we should start ruling the island officially. Our first acts (once we have fought those who want to fight should be to free the lizardfolk, then call for negociations between humans and sahuagins.

Obviously this is up to OP, but IIRC, in D&D and Pathfinder, the halfdragon template only gives wings to large or larger creatures. Though half-draogn lizardfolk would definitely be pushing the limit, I think they're still usually 'medium' and bereft of wings.

Glorious halfdragon minions that we don't have to worry about breath-weapon friendly-fire would be nice.

Question about the map, OP. Are those black spots the only cities/large cities in the world? It looks kinda empty.
>>
>>22683719
I find that the reasons for lizardman acquisition is manifold. One, they will mesh well with our kobolds, and maybe even the elves. Two, they are hardy servants of varied size, temperament and skillset. Three, in taking them into our service, we are emancipating them from outright slavery, an undeniably benevolent if also partially selfishly motivated act, which will be useful to give pause to any metallic do-gooders or dickass adventurers who seek to besmirch us. Four, more servants is never a bad thing, especially loyal ones.

>>22683784
That's definitely what I hope for this quest's direction. Seems like it could be fun.

From what I recall of the 3e draconomicon, younger dragons tend to set their sights on older ones, as with dragons, more age tends to equal more power, wealth, and knowledge, all of which is considered equivalent to sex appeal.

So yeah, sounds like our mother managed to land a hell of a catch.
>>
>>22683981
>The problem with Golds is that they have not merely a dynastic hierarchy like Blues, but are outright united as a race.
According to the draconomicon, silvers are organised in clans, and they'll help each other.
Sister might have a bad surprise someday.
>>
I think we should build a village of Lizardmen in the swamps, train them in magic too, the will be much better suited for it then kobolds

speaking of which we should build an underground city of Kobolds
>>
>>22684217
>much better suited than kobolds

Kobolds are usually pretty bright. Lizardmen are usually average at best, or dim at worst.

I move for trying to get them integrated with all our other doods.

If we do end up sleeping around with our humanoids, we should make sure that the ones we choose to 'honor' with our attention are suitably elevated in status. Both to make our humanoids object to it a bit less and to make sure that we don't get any vengeful descendants trying to end us.
>>
Just wondering, do reds need to breed with reds to get offspring or can we mate with any type of dragon? If only reds with reds, our population is highly endangered. We need to increase the number of dragons in our world before we die out.
>>
>>22684361

I do believe the last thing your average red dragon would want is to have more red dragons in their vicinity. Unless they want to bang.
>>
>>22684442
True but look at how many potential mates we have. Three. Three mates, without knowing their genders and if they would be willing.
>>
>>22684361
The continental/world map only shows the known heavyweights. There are plenty of younger dragons around.
>>
>>22684513
>>22684361
The world's probably larger than shown.

also, the feeilng I was getting from those maps was that they're zoomed out and showing only notable dragons. If you look at the zoomed-in one showing our lair and compare it to the overall map, it looks much more populous than that section of the world map would lead you to suspect.

>>22684361
Unless OP wants to declare, I'm assuming we're using D&D dragons, in which case, yeah, we can bang anything, though the result tends to look like its mother's lineage physically.
>>
>>22683981
>a dynastic hierarchy like Blues

Blues work like that? That's interesting can you tell me more?
>>
>>22684831
They tend to keep to family units. If you're a blue, barring exceptional circumstances, your mother loves you, and a territory tends to be ruled by a Suzerain who is effectively boss. Subordinates are supposed to show up and get his/her blessing when doing things like mating, treaties, or external political machinations, though how much of that actually happens, or is just rubber-stamping if it does, tends to vary. One might be loathed but too strong to oust, one might be a ineffectual puppet, one might be powerful and relatively beloved.

One of the nice aspects is that it gives them some fallback, and some protection from their 'unity'. On the other hand, they can be felled by internal strife and intriuge.

Going off of memory here, so I could be varying degrees of wrong.
>>
>>22683828
>I think we should start ruling the island officially.
On how to do it...
>[the island]'s mostly run by whoever has enough money and armed men to make the other groups with money and armed men follow them. Right now there is a cold war between two groups of pirates who operate out of the main town.
Is there a mercenary guild ?
Send one of the elves, an intelligent and faithful one, to the main town with Garran. Give them enough money to buy a house suitable for Garran's needs, and to buy half of all armed of town. Garran is not necessary for this, he can come back after choosing the place, but I think he could use a laboratory in town, and our elf only needs that house for a few days.
Have them make a public announcement calling for recruits for a really good wage, but in limited numbers.
Pay the volunteers (don't mind the expense, we'll get it back as long as they spend it in the island), and tell them to establish a camp out of town. Tell them their employer will meet them there.

The elf should come with them. Once there, he will announce that they're working for a dragon, that happens to be the new ruler of these lands. He will explain that the dragon doesn't really need their help, but that if they honor their employment contract, no one will have to be killed.
Then we appear in person.
And walk back into town with them, asking for surrender. Secure the port, allow no one to flee on ships.
Call for a meeting of the leaders of the town, and the two pirate lords (they can send someone to represent them) in the morning, and offer a free round of ale to all the inhabitants (except our soldiers).
We'll expose our proposal to them then.
(cont)

In exchange for not burning everything we ask
For a regional council to be formed, composed of one representative per village of the island, one representative of each faction that came to this meeting, one representative of each corporation, and us.
For the regional council to rule over the island, and we will rule over the council.
For the population of the island to organize in corporations, by activity (farmers, craftsmen, seafarers, dockworkers, merchants, doctors teachers and students, civil servants, service workers, mercenaries). These corporations will be run democratically, each member having one voice, and will gather every three or six months, according to necessity. Membership is mandatory, non-members will not be allowed to exercis in the relevant activity. Registration is automatic for three months (except among mercenaries), but we will have the authority to set the number of members at a later date according to the needs of the island. The corporations will have the duty to support their members and encourage cooperation between them. The corporation of the mercenaries will be limited to the number of them that finds itself in our employment at sundown today.
For every faction at this table to renounce to employ mercenaries.
For the biggest building of this town to be assigned to the council and ourself.
For annual taxes to be levied accordingly to each inhabitant's means.
For slavery to be banned.
>>
>>22684085
Also Silver dragons are infatuated with non-dragon races, immensely so with humans and elves. It's not unconcievable for her to have had towns or hell, cities under her protection. She might have even had an adventurer as a lover! So many things can go wrong with that.

I think its an okay plan but it's not my style. I'd prefer to start smaller and build up our powerbase first. Start by infiltrating all of the smaller villages. Inevitably, one of them will have some sort of problem. We solve this problem and gain control of the village. Then we repeat the pattern slowly gaining footholds and covert control of several of the villages. In essence, I would like to start from the outside and work our way in, rather than attempt to take over the heart. Also not keen on banning slavery.
>>
>>22685191
I thought we were just going to impregnate a whole lot of horses and make an army of redneck half-dragons.
>>
>>22685126
Use the elf to announce all this.
Let them discuss for a while, listen without saying anything, then when they start to understand their position, dismiss them. Except the pirates' representatives, if there is one or two. Tell them that we are aware that they could flee, and are willing to negociate some better terms (within reason) to convince them to continue operating from this island, like tax exemption. Take advantage of their division, to avoid giving away too much.
Keep our recruitment bureau open for the day. Those who are not on our list by the end of the day will be disarmed by the others, and told to find a productive job.
Send the others to keep the peace in town and prevent any mass escape by sea.

Gather the freed lizardfolk, find them a place to stay. Have them informed that they'll be allowed to build a village for themselves on the island, if they so choose, or to continue living among humans, working on the docks or whatever else, but for a pay and in decent conditions. Revenge for their servitude is disallowed.

Our relationship with our trading company will be kept secret. They'll lose some money over the freed slaves, but if we treat it differently publicly, all our human agents will learn who we are, and maybe up to the lord of Coloth.

I guess that's all. If our agents on the continent found a bard willing to work for us, we could use him to be our voice in all this.
>>
>>22685191
I think so yeah. Frankly I have a preference for young, weaker than us. and malleable. As for race, I have a preference list, and white is at the bottom rather emphatically.

>>22685246
I thought we weren't going to do that. On account of Ewww.
>>
>>22685200
Agreed. Slaves are fine, except when they're inconvenient for us. Just like everything.

Though your plan looks like it will make this Black and White, the quest. (Except we play as a dragon.)

Showing up to both pirate leaders too might work; and securing their individual support for this. After all, we could side with one or the other, but if they both agree to side with us, that's a sort of balance-of-power that prevents either one from being eliminated.

We should be wary of someone showing up after we reveal that we exist, though. Adventurer, slayer, other dragons, whatever.

>>22685272
Black and copper should be tied right above that. Brass shortly above that. And green probably narrowly above that. Bronze/gold/silver are okay, as are blue, (though inlaws may affect that.)

Why not banning slavery ? It will give us thankful servants, and won't really cut into the overall productivity of the island.

Infiltrating would take too long, and there's no real need for taking our time. It'll only give opponents the time to fight back.
It would also be a pain to try and solve people's problem while masking our involvement as a dragon. And if we don't mask it, people from areas we don't rule will call for dragonslayers and help them.
Let's just show up, eliminate every idea of rebellion, and start solving problems from an easier position.
>>
>>22685412

>>
>>22685412
Because your plan will either involve us winning really quickly or having to burn everything. I'd prefer to take the time to build up support first. So what if we have to spend a year to conquer an entire island. As for why we don't ban slavery, It can be a useful thing at times.

>>
>>22685439

Oh yeah, I wasn't thinking that the ban would apply to us.
But I'd argue that slaves isn't the correct term for us. We can tell people that aren't slaves to work on things we want anyway. We can even throw money at them and get it back by taxes.
So there's no real sense in having "slaves".

Besides, we already have kobolds who ask for nothing more than doing hard work for our benefit.

Not anymore than mating with humanoids.
It's a human's mentality to see all animals qualitatively inferior to humans. Dragons see everyone on the same scale, with dragons at the top.

No. No one will fight back. Why would they ? They've got most of their soldiers against them, and a fucking red dragon.
They're not suicidal. Especially not the rich ones who lead the others.

And even if they do put up a significant resistance, we can end it without burning everything. That's just an empty threat. We can delegate to mercenaries, kobolds, or do the job with our teeth.

We can't rule over people without creating some dissatisfaction. The pirates will have to deal with it, or sell their slaves on the continent - it's not like this island has a big market for them.

It's been reasonably well-received for every powerful king. We won't even have to treat them like slaves. We'll just have to tell the relevant corporations to do something for us.

We can have grateful ex-slaves around without outlawing it. Hell, they'd be more grateful; if we outlaw, it's a broad "Eh, this ain't allowed anymore." If we personally emancipate this group, it's a much more specific, "You owe your freedom to me."
>>
>>22686206
I'm not advocating thee ban on slavery out of moral concern (well, not primarily), though. I just want to be able to use ex-slaves if need arises, and leaving them as property of their masters prevents that.
>>

2/10 would not enslave

>>22686277
Since we're a personal ruler, it's about the same. And if they have any sense of kinship with the other slaves or the other lizardfolk, they'll be more satisfied with a full ban, instead of them being bought off and their friends remaining slaves.

I don't like outlawing slavery because:
1. I think its too much too soon. Creating deep changes in society should not be done overnight.
2. I'd prefer to avoid upsetting the apple cart as much as possible until we have thoroughly suborned all centers of power.
3. I find the idea of using our enemies families as slaves/servants is amusing. The idea of making princesses do our laundry simply appeals to me.
4. Almost all dragons don't actually give a shit about slavery
5. Evil empire needs slavery.
6. We are eventually going to want to enslave people. Because we are a dragon, their natural place is serving us.

Sadly, in Pathfinder, all dragons look the same barring color.

D&D has way better dragon design in general, but Pathfinder provides alternatives to a few of the sillier looking D&D ones. (coughcoughbluecough)

1.Okay, but I wanted to make a significant reform very early, to mark our coming to power. Something that will be remembered.
The other thing I could see to fit that bill would be to organize peace talks with the sahuagins, but we can't announce that at the meeting.
Any other idea ?
2. I agree, but I don't think the economy of this town is based on slavery. The rich will stay rich, the work will be done. Since our company bought a lot of the slave population recently, they will be the primary losers in this thing.
3. I actually don't. Except for dragons. Humanoid princesses aren't worth more than the rest.
4. Who cares about what other dragons think...
5. I don't want to have an openly evil empire. Every empire is by definition evil, but I'd like it to avoid evil for evil's sake.
6. Servants and slaves are different. We don't need slavery to make people obey.

I'd prefer infrastructure upgrades.

That will take time. We need a signifcant social change that doesn't actually change much to the economy.

pick one.
>>
>>22686999
No, really. Pirates don't use slaves, and the land people have little use for them except on the docks. Replacing them by low-wages workers will have little effect.
It's not like we have an agriculture based on slavery. Is it ?
Just tell the pirates to sell them on the continent.

What?

Besides, we're an evil dragon, we're going to rule an evil empire, if we end up deciding an empire is what we want.

Getting some drydocks might be nice. More accommodating to shipping, and more conducive to trade. Suppose it depends on the local trees being of the right type, though.

They take tons of slaves. Anyway, you aren't going to convince me, or the other people who disagreed with you. (If only because they've left)

>>22687203
and if we outlaw slavery, they won't be bringing their delicious, profitable slaves through our ports on the way to market, and we won't be getting a tithe/tax/pick of the lot.
>>

Hey look, I was wrong about the people who disagreed with you all having left!
>>
>>22687203
Actually slaving tends one of the least profitable types of piracy as you need to feed, house, and guard them unlike other kinds of wealth.
>>
>>22687332
They only times slavery (as an economic industry) was big and profitable is when you have another industry that will pay high price for unskilled labor such as the plantations of the south or the mines of Athens.

The slaves aren't destined for our island; we have neither the population nor the interest. They're going somewhere else. However, if they stop at our island in transit, they become profit for us. If we make it illegal, people aren't going to be stopping by if they think we might emancipate their cargoes.
>>
>>22687203
They can take slaves as long as they don't sell them here.
>>22687243
Which they already very rarely do, since there's just no use for a big number of slaves on our island. Slaves markets will be on the continent, not all the way here.

>>22687193
>What?
Starting a big number of wars to satisfy a personal ambition is evil. Would you say napoleon or alexander was good ?

And we're not an evil dragon, we're a red dragon. We don't have to decide what we do in function of the usual alignment of our kind. That's going backwards for any character.
>>
>>22687517
>red dragon
>not evil
I have issue with that.

At any rate, I don't seem to be convincing you and you ain't convincing me, (It still seems to be, "Let's do something good! Like outlaw slavery, yeah, that's good!") so I'm inclined to drop it at this point.
>>
>>22687654
It's not only for good, there's the advantage of making some people grateful to us early on.

As for being evil... we are. See what we did to those metallics. But evil is not the goal or the motive of our actions.
What's I'm arguing against is going "we're evil, so we'll do this because it's evil".
>>
>>22687741
Or "we're red, so we should be evil, so we should do this because it's evil".
>>

Do you agree on the rest of the "meet the new boss" plan, even if we disagree on whther it should be the same as the old boss ?
>>
>>22687989
Not especially, but neither is there anything else particularly objectionable?

An alternate plan that I'm not necessarily advocating, just tossing out here;

Make known our presence. Let them see us, hear of us, whatever. Huge fuss, some people will probably flee, most will probably stick it out. (Especially since we haven't done anything yet than exist.)

Some of the bolder ones- slayers, skeptics, whatever- come and investigate. We have a nice (intimidating, because I imagine seeing a dragon up close would have that effect on them,) chat with them, then 'decide' to head into town because they were kind enough to visit us.

There we sell ourselves to two pirate leaders, metaphorically of course. After all, we can keep this place safe for them while they're away; we can make sure that any other pirates to show up know who's boss, and we can prevent some random navy from launching a punitive expedition against their base here. We could even probably spin it to them as their own idea, and let ourselves be 'brought around' to it; we would, of course, receive a nominal compensation for it.

Then, over the next five years, decade at most, we insinuate ourselves into the island's government/society/rulership even moreso. They're ostensible leaders (with a dragon working for them, gasp!) but we're the most powerful entity, and we rule the island in their absence. Eventually, they'll find that we rule it even in their presence, and that's assuming they live that long; piracy isn't exactly a safe and healthy profession anyway.

This has a much more gradual and vaguely-insidious takeover, rather than a coup. Gradually get everyone used to the fact that we're in charge, rather than just make it so. It also allows us some time to study the pirates at work, as well as the other entities on the island; we're a genius compared to them, sure, but it's not like we've lead a moderately successful life as a minor statesman or governor. Might learn a thing or two.

>There we sell ourselves to two pirate leaders, metaphorically of course.
I'm not sure they would be willing to buy, us being a red dragon. They might assume it's racketeering, or just some strange trap. If we're subtle enough to make them come and ask for our help, that won't be problem - but who would ask a red dragon for help ?
>we insinuate ourselves into the island's government
Won't people suspect the dragon to pull the strings ?
>we're a genius compared to them, sure, but it's not like we've lead a moderately successful life as a minor statesman or governor. Might learn a thing or two.
That's a good point. If we do the coup, we should let people conduct most of their affairs themselves while we observe and learn. If we don't, too. But in that case close observation will be more difficult.
>>
>>22688829
>But in that case close observation will be more difficult.
We could send some of our elves to join the pirate crews and do the observation for us.
