Good evening ladies and gentletrolls! Yeah, it's that time once again folks! The Civilization Quest is back! There's been plenty of disruptions to our usual schedule lately, but you'll be pleased to know it looks like pain sailing from he-

Oh yeah, right... I'm your GM. Forget what I said: You're all gon' die!

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

>WHEN LAST WE LEFT OUR HEROES
>Trym and Derrik ventured through the wild, un-tamed lands of the Deep Forest, eventualyl receiving instructions from a gargantuan bear spirit they encountered. Following a river, they came across a strange, palisade in the forest and observed a battle between two factions of human-looking beings.

As the night draws on, some of the figures in the trees break off, crossing the bridge at a leisurely pace and walking into the forest. As they pass Trym and Derrik, they talk in a strange language, lighting their way with balls of blue fire held in their hands or floating near to them. Most strange of all however, is their appearance. Like Hrunti, they possess animal features; the tails and ears of beasts, slightly clawed hands, yellow eyes and a slightly inhuman cast to their faces. Unlike Hrunti however, some possess more than one tail (though none more than four) and they seem vulpine more than lupine.
Some wear clothes, either of fine skins, or the same woven cloth and Yeneth wore in her manifestation before the tribe, while others go naked, covering themselves with their tails. The group of about half-a-dozen, both male and female, quickly vanish into the darkening forest, but their passing leaves Trym and Derrik with a new understanding of the nature of what assails their village and who tricked the bear. "Fox-folk," Derrik sighs, "Not gods, from what I smelt, but that peppery scent's definitely fox. Strange they're causing so much evil though. According to Hrunti, foxes love tricks, but not usually attacking humans. I wonder what's got them so riled up..."

Wat do?
A) Approach the battle
B) Wait until morning
C) Follow the departing fox-folk
D) Step out of the bushes, but stand off from the fight
E) Other
>>
>>23526957
B) Too much of a chance of them thinking we were part of the enemy. When we get to morning lets approach the gates. Enemy of my enemy is my friend.
>>
>>23526980
And the winner is my friend too.
>>
>>23526980
Sounds safe to me.
>>
>>23526980
Seconding this as well.
>>
>>23526980
Sceonding.
>>
>>23526980
The night crawls on and the fights at the gates slowly die down to just a handful, before ending altogether. Some of the figures retreat into the trees, while others withdraw through the gates and the forest becomes quiet again, still lit by the flames burning in the bowls. Trym and Derrik take turns to keep watch while the other sleeps and before long, dawn creeps over the horizon. As the world is lit again, the fires extinguish themselves and natural light returns.

The palisade still stands, but sitting by the stream and paddling their feet are a trio of female fox-folk, two wearing soft buckskins, another shamelessly naked. All of them have two tails waving behind them as they talk merrily.

What do?
A) Approach the fox-folk on the bank
B) Approach the palisade
C) Step out of hiding and wait to be approached
D) Other
>>
>>23527569
B) We should show them that we aren't here to attack/kidnap them and go right to front gate.
>>
>>23527569
C)

If we start talking to them or something we might accidentally offend. Go stand where they can see us, make no moves and say nothing unless approached first.
>>
>>23527710
Second. Plus remember before this is over we will take a bowl of light with us.
>>
>>23527710
I think I'll second this... Not really sure what would be the right thing to do.
>>
>>23527710
C
>>
>>23527710
Going with this.
>>
>>23527710
Trym and Derrik step out from hiding, standing on the bridge of fallen trees that crosses the stream. It takes a few moments before they are spotted, but when they are, the three fox-folk on the bank stare, twittering amongst themselves for a moment, before hopping up and strolling over. The naked one speaks first, as they approach. She leans forward and sniffs, then cocks her head, "You're humans? I thought you'd look smaller." She stands about a span (the distance between fingertip and thumb-tip of one hand when stretched out) shorter than Trym, looking up at him curiously, seemingly utterly unconcerned by her nudity, despite how confused it makes the warrior. "What are you doing here? I thought your kind didn't come into the forest?"

How does Trym respond? Select manner and suggest responses and questions.
A) Friendly
B) Aggressive
C) Cautious
D) Proud
E) Humble
F) Other
>>
>>23528498
Not sure how we should react. Acting proud might not convince them, as they don't seem to take us all too serious.
>>
>>23528498
A) I'm sure it will turn out fine.
>>
>>23528601
>>23528628
As well as general manner, you will also need to propose what kind of things to say/ask.

Or I'll just fill in the blanks for you? If you really want me to...
>>
>>23528663
>If you really want me to...
Oh god, please no.
>>
>>23528601
>>23528628
C), you're never cautious enough.
>>
F) Friendly, but tell them that we come here on business and that something is happening in the realm of humans that concerns us.
>>
>>23528498
>E)

You ask if they would do you the honor of allowing you inside there town, explain you have been traveling for a few days, and would appreciate somewhere to rest for a few hours.

Once inside the town, we will no doubt draw a crowd at this point ask if you can speak to a village elder.
>>
>>23528820
Seconding this
>>
>>23528818
Second this, seems like a good idea.
>>
>>23528790
This might seem like weakness to them..

>>23528818
I could agree with friendly, but I don't want to begin by telling them what our concern is. We don't know them yet.

>>23528820
Again, humble seems a bit like weakness to me...
>>
>>23528879
We just bring it up as the reason for us being here. We need directions to who we can talk to.
>>
>>23528818
I agree.
>>
>>23528932
This is me.
>>
>>23528818
Trym happily converses with the fox-folk, explaining why he and Derrik have come to the Deep Forest and asking for help in resolving the problems around the Longfang village. The fox-folk girls sigh and make a great show of sympathy. "How terrible for you!" nods the girl who first addressed the pair, folding her arms over her breasts as she shakes her head, "I've never even been to the human world myself. I can tell you though, this is all the fault of Yotaha and her pack. If it hadn't been for them, none of this would have ever happened!"
"Who's Yotaha?" asks Derrik, frowning slightly in confusion.
"A rebel and troublemaker," answers another of the fox-folk, smirking, "She thinks she knows better than our 'chief' and a few believe her. Every evening, there's a fight between us and her followers."
"They're the ones that built that wall," nods the third, "Stolen from you humans, at that! They live in there and think themselves better than the rest of us, that we should fall in line and follow Yotaha's 'wisdom'. Pah!"

Wat do?
A) Enquire further
B) Go to the palisade
C) Ask to see the old chief
D) Other
>>
>>23529419

C) Ask to see the chief, lets try and assitaine if what they are telling us is true with out going and talking to the other pack just yet. We don't want to lose their trust if they are being honest.

(also if this is true I suggest we offer our assistance in taking out the other pack.)
>>
>>23529489
+1 on this.
>>
>>23529489
Sceonding this.
>>
>>23529419
B)

They've stolen our stuff and try to emulate it, they'll be more interested than violent I believe. We should offer then assistance in some heavy lifting or something, give them some light thing like that in exchange for information.

The three exchange a look and a smile, leading Trym and Derrik off into the woods, through the trees and along paths nigh-invisible, until you are already following them, until eventually, they reach a great cave, yawning up, out of the earth. All around are strewn the bones of dead animals, a few with blue fire burning inside them, casting the interior of the cave into eerie shadows.
"Wait here," the trio instructs, as they head inside, leaving Trym and Derrik at the mouth of the cave. After a short time, there is movement within the cave and the three return, along with one other. The new addition is a strikingly beautiful woman, her features focused and sharp, her topaz-orange eyes sweeping over Derrik and Trym with unrivalled intensity. Her hair is black, sheening deep red in the light and she wears buckskins stitched finely together, as well as furs draped around her like a cape. Behind her though, no less than nine, russet-red fox tails wave slowly back and forth. Derrik stiffens as he feels her gaze on him and mutters to Trym, "Be wary. She's not just a spirit like the others."

"So," the woman purrs, swaying towards Trym, "You are the ones who have stumbled into my forest, due to my insolent sister's troublemaking." It's a statement, not a question and for a moment, she regards Trym with a considering look, before her nose twtiches slightly and a look of disappointed frustration flickers over her features. She bows her head and sighs deeply, "I am so terribly sorry to hear that you and your people have suffered! If my sister would but listen to me and cease her foolish fight, then I am sure I would be able to control the passing of my foxes from this world to yours so much better. Alas, that will never come to pass. For all she is a usurper, she has a strong place, after all and is herself mighty enough to contend with me."
>>
>>23530219
"Let me make you a deal, warrior," he smiles, placing a finger to her cherry-red lips, "If you were to defeat my sister and bring her to lay on her belly before me, I would be more than happy to see to it you receive just payment for your deeds. With my sister out of the way, I would be able to once again instruct my foxes correctly, without the risk of her words clouding their minds. Will you do this for me, brave hero?"

Wat do?
A) Accept
B) Refuse
C) Investigate
D) Other
>>
>>23530267

C) Say you will do what she wants, but you want to open up a line of diplomacy between her pack and your tribe. Specify you think you could trade, and learn from each other.

If she agrees to these terms, agree to hers.
>>
>>23530267
C) Exactly what is our payment, and how exactly how powerful is your sister?
>>
>>23530316
>>23530345
Seconding this. Although something's probably already being written up.
>>
>>23530345
Second
>>
>>23530316
"We'll see about further diplomacy," the fox-folk chief smiles, "I'm also sure there is a great deal we could offer you and likewise, there is a great deal, my folk want of yours."
"As to my sister, she is powerful, it's true, but I have no doubt that you will be victorious. You have faced powerful foes before her, after all, I can tell." She waves one of the trio forward and smiles, "My servant will guild you back to my sister's dwelling; you'll never find the way again otherwise. Fight well, hero. My hopes rest with you."

The fox-folk detailed to guide Trym and Derrik promptly bolts off ahead of them, having to stop every so often, so they can catch up. Quite apart from following the path they came by, she leads them all over the place, through bog and brush, thorn and thicket, seemingly taking delight in stopping, waiting for the two humans to struggle after her, then bolting on again.

By the time Trym and Derrik are back at the stream and the bridge, both are glad to finally see the back of their guide, who vanishes with a cackle of laughter, back, into the trees. The compound stands ahead and the early afternoon sun streams down through the branches.

Wat do?
A) Approach the gates openly
B) Try to sneak in
C) Wait until dusk
D) Other
>>
>>23531700

D) Have Derrik scout the compound, and report back the best course of action.
>>
>>23531824
I just think we might as well use his stealth to our advantage.
>>
>>23531700
A) Approach the gates, challenge the fox woman to single combat!
>>
>>23531870
This is me! Throw down the gauntlet!
>>
>>23531700
B
>>
>>23531700
A) Approach the gates openly.

These fox people obviously want our building materials to use. We can strike a deal with them, learn their side of the argument, and then choose a course of action form there.

Also, it looks better than sneaking around. If we get caught sneaking around we'll have little to no chance at diplomacy
>>
>>23531932
Sexond this
>>
>>23531932
Sceonding this. I assume we don't stand a chance with sneakiness against actual fox people...
>>
>>23531978
Shit didn't think of that!

Changing vote to this >>23531932
>>
>>23531932
No, if the other woman is watching this could backfire on us rather hard.
>>
>>23532285
How so?

We're finding an end to the conflict without using violence. Why would that backfire?
>>
>>23532308
The woman could see our negotiations or speaking with her sister as a threat. She could turn against us for trying to negotiate with her sister.
>>
>>23532343
She's at least lesser god status in power, and Foxes are known to be sly and tricky. She might just think we're doing some elaborate scheme, which we kind of are, and when everything is over she'll reward us even more.

If the difference is between breaking in the door and picking the lock, I think Fox Lady would be more impressed that we picked the lock.

I am terribly sorry for the delay. Anyone on the IRC channel is already aware of the reason and if not, I'm afraid it'll have to remain a private matter.

Given the current time and the fact the next few posts have a good chance of being fairly short, I'm afraid I'm terminating the thread here for tonight. Thank you all for coming; the next thread wil be on Thursday, at 1600EST, as always.

I hope you have a good few days and will see you then.
