>Behind you, Einstein hovered. You could check his data at any time, you knew: http://pastebin.com/CaAF0yS8

"Okay, thanks." You say, lying back in bed. "Love you too, mom."
"Love you, honey." Your mom responded. "Call next week, too!"
"I will." You say. "See you then."
"See you!"
You hang up, fold your glasses back into your hair, and get to your feet just as Summer comes back into the room.
"Max told me to tell you that the telekinetic array is open." Summer said. "And can I watch? I want to see if you'll break it again. And..."
She looked to the ground.
"I don't exactly feel right with all the guys with guns around." She said. "I'd feel better if I was able to walk with someone else."

Sure, let's go.

Is she using her human avatar or does she run around as only a tiger?
>>
"Sure!" You say, and hop to your feet. "Let's go!"

You make your way out of your room, escorted by two marines.
"I'd have my human avatar, but I'm kind of exhausted." She said. "They had me keep trying to manifest complex things. How would *I* know how a fusion engine works? And when I told them that, they just went 'oh, here's a futurepedia page on how they work'. They don't quite get how manifestation works."

Soon enough, you reach the telekinetic array, where Max nodded to you, the technicians nearby. You make your way into the changing room, and then change into a biometric suit, one of those EEG headsets on your head.
You make your way back out, stand in front of the array, and nod to Summer before focusing on the array...

You close your eyes, and reach out with your mind, gently touching your mind against the edge of all of the spheres...

And then Max started barking out commands. He wasn't polite and calm, like Dr. Manus, but he was... cold. Angry. He demanded his orders be kept, and he spoke with absolute authority.
And so, of course, you obeyed him, moving your TK the way he'd ordered you. And you did so for an hour, maybe two.

"And now." Max said, walking between you and the arrays. He held a bucket in his mouth. "Prevent this from touching the ground."

Then he overturned the bucket with a paw, and the water spilled out - and you caught it, levitating it above the ground, coalescing it into a rough sphere.
"Shape it into me. Into my shape." Max said, and sat down on his haunches.
Carefully, you focused, and shaped the water. Your stomach growled, and your limbs felt dead, but you shaped it. And then you shaped it into Summer when Max asked, and one of the researchers when Max asked.
"Now." Max barked. "Use it to create a replica of the Array."
You focused... and then you lost focus, and the water went splashing across the ground, into some nearby vents installed for precisely that.

Max shrugged. "You did well, Heather." he said. "Go on, rest a bit. We have shakes and nutrient biscuits if you want them. Just don't eat the bone-shaped ones, those are mine."

"That was awesome!" Summer said. "I couldn't do anything more than making it a sphere."

"That's really quite draining." You say, sipping at the protein shake. "But I couldn't do much better until now. Guess this training really pays off."
"In my experience, learning things is like... it's going really easy and really well until you hit a speedbump, and then it takes forever to get over that speed bump, and then you're going all fast again."
"And Max is pretty demanding, not that I mind."
"That's just how he is. He's a late uplift, so I think he still has his instincts. He's the alpha of the station, or something." Then she giggled. "Top Dog. He's the top dog."
>>
>>23663391
Anyone think we should tell them about the black-sphere annihilation power we can do?

we probably should since the scientists have seen a still image of one of those orbs already.

You giggle.
"He might not appreciate being called the top dog... or maybe he would. It can be hard to know with him."
"I think he would." Summer said, her tail whipping. "I get the feeling that he tries to be 'just a dog', when he's obviously more than that."
"Maybe we should feed him some of those nutrient bones, Summer."
"He knows where they are. If he wants them, he'll have them." Summer said. "I always kind of think it's kind of offensive when people try to feed me things. Like, out of their palms."
>>
>>23663540
"What if someone you like wants to feed you?"
>>
>>23663540
"I can understand that, I'd probably hate it in your position as well, but being a late-uplift might mean a different perspective. Not that I'd do it to Max anyway."
>>
>>23663540
"Ahh, but you are not 'just a tiger.'"
>>
"What if someone you like wants to feed you?"
"It's still offensive." She said. "I mean, I'm fine with petting, as are most of the uplifts in the chatroom we use, because we don't really have hands to shake or anything. But feeding is different. I can use my claws as manipulators, or my teeth. I might not have palms, but I can still carry things myself. There's no reason I should have to eat out of people's palms."
"I can understand that. I'd probably hate it in your position as well, but being a late-uplift might mean a different perspective."
"Well, it matters what a late uplift is." She said. "Like, a domestic dog would be perfectly fine with it, since that was what he was used to before he was uplifted. But Max was a wild wolf, I think."
>>
>>23663714
I mean like a lover hand feeding you, you know all the romantic stuff. But ok.

"Makes sense." You say. "I didn't interact with uplifts much before coming here, so it's interesting to hear your perspective on things."
"Well, I was raised like a human. I know I'm not, but other than the political correctness things... and, well, the psion stuff, I'm pretty normal."
"Max was a wolf? Really? That... I didn't know that. I just thought he was a dog."
"I've met actual wolves in the zoo before. Animals, not uplifts." Summer said. "They smell different than dogs, and Max has that same sort of wolf smell."

"Heather? Can I talk to you for a second?" Max asked, and you got off of the bed.
"The doctor and I both decided to show you this." He said, nodding toward the technician area, with the computers and diagnostic equipment.
"This was almost two and a half seconds before you broke the array the first time." He said. "We'd been deliberating if we should show you, but... we've no idea what it is."

He nodded to one of the technicians, and the tech hit a button, showing you a frozen frame from a few days ago. Of you, standing there, arm raised... with a half-formed sphere of utter darkness. Max's claw tapped the sphere.
"Do you see that? That formed when you got... frustrated, or angry, based on the brain scans. We're calling it an anomaly right now. Do you know what it might be?"
>>

Hey Exabyte I have a question about this setting. I read all the archives recently and you lightly touched on genetic modification but you didn't really elaborate on what stage it was in. Like is it mass genetic modification where everyone is being improved to be stronger and faster? or is it at the point where it is mostly shunned and only the rich have designer babies?
>>
>>23663892
>The Tips of the Day, on Einstein's data, touches on that, specifically Day 2's paragraph on transgenes. Basically, a little less than a third of the entire human race has been significantly modified, while the alien races are 69% and 4%.

"Yes, actually." You say, and everyone looked at you. "When everything in the dream started to... get bad, I lashed out at one of the invaders and something similar appeared. It... unmakes things. I haven't tried using it because it could rip right through the hull if I lose control or something."
"... You used it in the dream, yes?" Max said. "Curious... And it's like demanifestation? Do you get less tired when you do it?"
You shake your head - you remember getting really tired when you used it to destroy the Void Queen's minions.
"... Curious." He said again. "Do you mind sticking around here for a while? I have an idea, and I'm... rather too lazy to wait for your counselor to give me the okay. We're going to make an isolated location for you to use it, and we'll keep summer on hand so she can seal any hull breaches. Are you willing to try?"
>>
>>23663886

"If you think it's safe, sure." You say. "And as long as I don't get in trouble for it if something goes wrong."
"You won't." Max said. "I'll be the one that gets in trouble."

He barked out at the technicians to take down the array, and they got to work while you went and sat with Summer, relaxing and drinking as many shakes as necessary.
Summer leaned on you, quiet.
"... That dream you had last night." she said. "You hardly mentioned anything about me, other than I created a... shadow thing. Then you went quiet. What did the shadow thing look like? And act like? Did it talk?"
>>
>>23664109

You didn't take Jilly's and Keen's death well. When you tried manifesting I think you put your shame into not being there for them into it. It insulted you and tried to use that to get you to give up.
>>
"It was, well... like you'd made a thing with all the bad emotions floating around in your head." You say, quietly. "It provoked you when you were upset."
"... I've never lost control of my manifestation." She said. "They don't always obey me, but I've always manifested whatever I tried to. Never made something without meaning to. I'm just curious... what would have to be wrong with me for me to make something like that."
"You were there with me until the end." You say.
She nodded, and leaned on you even more, closing her eyes.
"I'm glad to hear that you stuck with me, even though I was useless." She said.

"Okay, we're ready." Max said, and you look down the large room to find that the array had been replaced with a large concrete block, sensors surrounding it. "Summer, we'll need you too."
"For what?" Summer asked.
"If there's a hull breach, you just need to patch up the hole while we all make our way out. Can you do that?"
Summer nodded.
"Okay, then let's do this." Max said.

You stand in the spot Max designated, and then focus.
"What we'll need you to do is create one, and use it to bore a hole through the center of the concrete." Max said. "Can you do that for us?"
You nod, and then pour your will into your palm, and from there, you visualized - that black sphere of nothingness, that emptiness.
And there it appeared, shimmering in your palm. You nudged it forward, slowly, strength draining from your limbs slowly.
Gently, it bored a hole through the block, tiring you more, but you kept your will intact for it to drive completely through the block.
"Now bring it back. Bore a new hole." Max said, and you slowly, surely, draw it back through the concrete block a second time.
"Okay.. now you can let go of it." He said, and you do - and something hard fell out of the heart of the sphere.
A very small, very shiny sphere of diamond, gleaming with... something. The floor below it started to get hot, but it didn't melt through.

"Interesting." Max said. "Greggins, Get it with the standard safety gear."
"Yessir." One of the techs said, and pulled on a suit and some long pliers. When the steel touched the diamond, there was a crack of lightning, and the technician dropped the pliers.
"... Something not conductive, please." The tech said, and another tossed him a second set.

"... Looks like some sort of pressurization." Max told you, looking at the diagnostic equipment.

He shrugged.
"At least we know it isn't demanifestation. How do you feel?"
That's a good question, you think, but you were already falling over.

"Well, it's nice to know my bouts of unconsciousness seem to be costing me less sleep than before. I wonder if it's because of the extensive training on the subject."

You nod, and start slurping at one of the smoothies, and eventually, energy flooded your limbs, and you could sit up.
At least, you could have, if Summer wasn't lying on you, slurping on her own, the large cup held tightly between her paws. It almost looked funny.

"They thought it was a diamond, at first." She said. "But it has a lot of weird things about it. Like, it's really really electric, and hot. They think it might start giving off radiation in a bit, so they have it locked away, but parts of it are breaking down into more energy."

"Is something wrong?"
>>
Ask what is the matter.
>>
>>23664936
"What's the matter, summer? Are you okay?"
>>
"Thanks!" You say, and pull her into a hug. "Is something wrong? Diamond for your thoughts? What's the matter?"
"... I just realized that I'm probably not going to end up with anyone." Summer said. "Unless they're attracted to tigers, in which case they're probably someone I don't want to meet."
>>
>>23665011
Give her a hug.

That's nonsense. You'll find someone for you, I know it.

You're far too fluffy to be alone forever.

And if things get really bad, you can date someone with your Manifestations
>>
>>23665011
"Well, I don't know how you feel about this, but you also have your manifested 'you' that could... um... work."
>>
>>23665011
"Well there must be other uplifted tigers. And if that doesn't work out, you can manifest yourself as any species you want."
>>
>>23665011
Time to invite Summer back to our room to prove her wrong with tigersex?
>>
>>23665011
"You just have to find someone who's attracted to who you are, rather than what you are.
Though if you really wanted that sort of physical intimacy, I suppose you could just use your manifestations."
>>
>>23665011
"Summer, you're a very pretty tiger and I'm sure you'll end up with someone who likes you for who you are. Physical intimacy is just one small part of ending up with someone.

You may have to use SCIENCE or your Manifestations to get around some hurdles, but if you and your hypothetical future partner were both willing to try I think it could work."
>>
>>23665039
Only if we're not locked in to her as a result. As long as Heather can get still get around without smashing hearts, I'm fine with it..
>>
>>23665011
I'm almost positive that the only correct response here is a variant of

I'm not sure she'd take 'you can always use your manifestations' very well. They're not actually her, and any relationship where the manifestations are necessary would be...fragile at best, I suspect.

>>
>>23665105

>>
>>23665107
Well, how else would they kiss?
>>
>>23665011
Can we soothe her like Jilly did with us earlier?

Give her a hug.
>>
You pull her into a hug.
"That's nonsense." You say. "You have to find someone who's attracted to who you are, rather than what you are. And, well, I don't know how you feel about this, but you also have your manifested 'you' that could... um... work."
"I can't build something on a lie." Summer said, rather heatedly. "I don't want to. I might as well manifest two 'me's and put them in a relationship with eachother. Or manifest prince charming. None of them are real."
>>
>>23665105
Oh yeah, of course. It's a bad thing to mention, but it's something heather would say
>>
>>23665149
"I'm sorry."
>>
>>23665149
What about other uplifted tigers, Summer? Arn't there any of those around, somewhere?
>>
>>23665149
Giggle.
"It could be a bit of fun, you know? Being intimate with someone with extra bodies."

"It might not have to be a lie, you know. You could tell them, from the beginning, but they might be more at ease with your human you. And then you just slowly work them into it."
>>
>>23665149
"How many Tiger uplifts are there? I am sure there's more than one so you will certainly find someone."
>>
I'm sorry Summer I can't think of any easy answers. But if its any consolation I love you Summer, as a friend. and maybe more
>>
>>23665149
"You have a point there. But, you know, while it might be harder than otherwise, you can always find someone who only sees the person and not the, uh, species. I mean, I know there are asexual people who manage to have fulfilling relationships with non-asexuals despite the lack of sex, although I suppose there are some differences there. Uh...

Well whatever. I might be doing pretty terribly at this, but you're amazing, and there's no way you'll end up as a spinster!"
>>
>>23665149
"I didn't phrase that right. If you go out with someone they have to like you, Summer, and everything that comes with it. I'm not saying that they should date a Manifestation.

But for certain, umm, activities, there might be logistical issues, unless they're also a tiger, that Manifestations might help get around.

There aren't any easy answers for this. I'm sorry if I'm being an idiot and getting it all wrong."
>>
>>23665237
I like this actually.
>>
>>23665149
"It's not really a lie, though, is it? If you're honest, I mean. Human-you is still the awesome Summer I know and love, just projected as a human."

Anna, Sarvesh, and now Summer? Slow down Heather, you aren't Dave.
>>
"What about other uplifted tigers, Summer? Aren't there any of those, somewhere?" You ask.
"I looked it up." She said. "There aren't any this side of UPA space, four of them - two sets of siblings - are already married to eachother, and the last is pretty old and wasn't interested in meeting me."
"It's not really a lie, though, is it? If you're honest, I mean, and you could tell them from the beginning." You say. "Human-you is still the awesome Summer I know and love, just projected as a human."
"... Maybe..." She said.
"I'm sorry if I'm being an idiot and getting it all wrong."
"You're not getting it wrong." She said, and sighed. "Manifestations would probably make it easier..."
She sighed. "I'm just not happy with the idea." She lay her head down. "I'll just have to pick a guy from here, I guess, since all the guys here already know I'm a tiger, but I can use my manifestations or whatever, and they'd know it's a lie. It might work that way."
She closed her eyes.
"Should I pick Alex, Damien, or Sarvesh? Should I even try Sarvesh? He's kind of alien, though he did call my centaur form pretty."
>>
>>23665429
"You should try with Sarvesh."
>>
>>23665429
>Heather the matchmaker
>>
>>23665453
You should see if Sarvesh can manifest a tiger!
>>
>>23665429
Alex has a girlfriend. Sorta. Damien's nice, but he'd know everything you did. He'd never forget your anniversary though. I don't know about Sarvesh. He doesn't have lips, how would he kiss?

What about Anna, you and her seem to get along really well.

and quietly: What about me?
>>
>>23665429
"Don't tell anyone, but I'm pretty sure Sarvesh has a crush on me. And you can't exactly use your manifestations or telepathy with Alex.
That just leaves Damien. Or a girl.
>>
>>23665429
"Uh, depends who you like. You shouldn't go out with somebody just for the sake of going out with somebody. You want them to like them for you so you should like them too."
>>
>>23665429
"You don't have to go out with any of them, but I think you and Damien would make a frankly adorable couple.

You already bicker sometimes like a couple, with you being able to track him down despite him being clairvoyant and him hiding chocolate from you."
>>
>>23665453
nah

>>23665429
So you prefer guys hmm? It is kind of early to make thsoe decisions. Lets see though. Alex is out. He can't even touch your manifestations and he has a girlfriend. Damien and Sarvesh are both sweeties though. Depends on what you find attractive though. I doubt its physical so it'd have to be mental. What do you want in a mate Summer?
>>
>>23665492
>Sarvesh has a crush on me
So we reject him, then Summer picks him up from a rebound.
>>
>>23665541
>nah
Why not?
>>
>>23665492
No. Not yet.
No talking about Sarvesh's feelings to us before we've talked about it with him for crying out loud dammit
>>
>>23665566
Because simply answering with a definitive is boring, when we could be playing matchmaker and conversing.
>>
>>23665429
"Uh, maybe wait and see if you like one of them first sweetie. If you just pick one without feeling anything for them then you're probably in for a disappointment. And since falling in love cross-species is apparently possible, there's no reason for you to settle for less. And you're still young, you know! No need to give up just yet."
>>
>>23665545
I'm sorry mate, I can't reject a ton of delicious crabcake like that.
>>
>>23665429
>Sarvesh is ours bitch! Stay away from him!
"Well shouldnt you mate with normal Tigers? That would work too wouldn't it? And if you have to go for one of them then pick Alex. He has lost his girl recently. It would cheer him up at least."
>>
>>23665605
>>23665601
anna is the superior choice
>>
>>23665429
Idon't think you should pick anyone.

I think you should wait and see if anything develops or you *want* to pick somneone, not what you 'should' do.
>>
>>23665605
>>Sarvesh is ours bitch! Stay away from him!
haha no. She can have him, if she wants.
>>
>>23665429
"I'm not sure I should really be offering this kind of advice!"
>>
>>23665605
Her going after a normal tiger wouldn't work, she's as intelligent as a human, they're animals, it'd be a very strange version of bestiality and just wouldn't work due to the intelligence gap.
>>
>>23665633
Agree.
>>
>>23665605
>Well shouldnt you mate with normal Tigers?
She wants a meaningful relationship, not an animal that will stick its dick in her.
>>
>>23665633
I am seconding Cyborg girl when the time comes.
>>
>>23665637
hahaha no.
Sarvesh is best husbando. eh understands technology and doesn't afraid of anything.
>>
>>23665605
>"Well shouldnt you mate with normal Tigers?
ewww no.
>>
>>23665636

supporting this
>>
>>23665654
perhaps he is, but I don't want a husbando. Waifu is the goal.
>>
>>23665654
I disagree but respect your opinion as he is pretty boss.
>>
"Alex has a girlfriend, sorta. And you can't exactly use your manifestations or telepathy with Alex. Damien's nice, but he'd know everything you did. He'd never forget your anniversary, though."
"Stop listening to us, Damien." Summer said.
"And I don't know about Sarvesh. He doesn't have lips. How would he kiss?"
"My lips aren't very good either." Summer said. "For ... for k-kissing, I mean."
"What about Anna? You and her seem to get along really well."
"I didn't even *think* about picking from the girls!" She said - and then met your eyes. "O-oh, right, uhm... I'm not sure about Anna."
You think about things for a bit.
"I think you should wait and see if anything develops, or you want to pick someone." You say. "Not what you should do."

She thought about it, and then nodded.
"That's what I'll do." She said. "I'll wait and see."
>>
>>23665687
We had waifus in the last couple Exabyte quests, why not a husbando this time? I mean Sarvesh would make a great husbando.
>>
It's fine guys, don't argue. We can just sex them all up first, then decide on who we want to pursue later, after half of them have died.

No point in committing to someone who's going to get killed off.
>>
>>23665708

"Speaking of Anna, I need to find her and get her to teach me how to use firearms."

>>
>>23665708
Because two of those quests were with male protags? So it doesn't matter to me.
>>
>>23665708
Just personal preference. I also doubt you could ever convince tg to pick a husbando over a waifu unless it's a quest with, like, the raddest dude ever and a bunch of awful female characters.
>>
>>23665648
Well then it's just about time when she will start to want an animal with dick to stick inside her.
>>
>>23665706
"Take your time, don't rush something as important as this."

Give her a pet and a hug.

I think we need to have a talk with Sarvesh, we've been putting it off for too long.

>>23665759
Well I like all the characters, but Sarvesh pretty much is the raddest dude ever.
>>
>>23665706
Are we done with this training? If we are, go train with Anna (firearms).
>>
>>23665706
And even if you don't find anyone, I will still give you scratches and fall asleep on you.

Can I go now? Or do you want me to stay here for a bit longer?
>>
>>23665782
Seconded, we need to talk with Crabcake. Even if we're not going to accept his confession, we can't just leave it hanging.
>>
>>23665850
Go talk with Sarvesh.
>>
>>23665850
Yeah.
>>
>>23665782
>>23665850
I'll third that. Sarvesh isn't really one of my choices, but we still need to talk.
>>
>>23665850
You know he never confessed to us. Alternate dream future Sarvesh did.
>>
>>23665706
Say to her telepathically: "You were looking at me like that just now, weren't you? I don't think I want a full blown relationship with anyone right now...but if you ever want to try experimenting...well, you know where my bed is."
>>
>>23665706
"It must be difficult. I wonder how the government dealt with it as an ethical issue, when legalizing uplifting. I mean, it's such a limited process, as you mentioned there are barely any uplifted tigers in existence, so you and the others have such a big challenge in the field of romance. Can you really justify uplifting someone and forcing them into that? But then again, I'd imagine most early-uplifts would never want to NOT have been uplifted...ugh, this is hurting my head."
>>
>>23665882
He might as well have.
He knew exactly what alternate dream Sarvesh would have confessed about.
>>
>>23665882
He knows we know though, ignore or confront, it's still gonna be awkward. Might as well deal with it, Heather seems like a pretty direct person.
>>
>>23665889
How about sending that as a delayed ExtraMail, so she gets it later when we're sleeping? Heather's better at Technopathy then Telepathy, after all
>>
>>23665882
Quiet Exabutt. He still recognized it and so did Heather.
>>
>>23665889
Slow down Casanova. That is sending a signal that /tg/ has yet to agree is even an option.
>>
"Take your time." You say, and give her a hug, and scratch her head. "Don't rush something as important as this."
"I won't." She said, returning your hug.
"Can I go now? Or do you want me to stay here a bit longer?"
"You can go." She said, and just lay her head down. "Good luck, heather."

Sarvesh's door was much thicker than yours, and carried a lot more electronics that popped out to say hello to you, and one offered to turn on the screen like he was supposed to. You press the button, and a camera screen popped up on the front. Sarvesh looked out of his version of the screen at you, and then you nod. He hit a button, and his dorm room hissed as the pressure normalized - or thickened, in his case - and the door hissed open.
"Come on in." Sarvesh said, sitting on a small dais next to the computer his lower arms were typing on. He turned off the display and turned to you. "I have a chair for humans somewhere around, but I can't quite find it..." He said, looking this way and that.

"So you can."
"Whatcha working on?"
"I was actually writing a message home." Sarvesh said. "My mother and I have kept in contact. She's worried about the pressure here. Social pressure, not atmospheric." He said, and chuckled again. "She's apparently done quite a lot of digging on the rest of the students. I even asked her not to."

Because it either fails outright (quest-runner rightly sees that this will turn quests into romance-at-every-opportunity shit and shuts it down/allows it but shits on us when we try it by having the characters - surprise surprise! - not be okay with sharing, as most people aren't) OR completely removes anything interesting from the romance by turning it into complete fan-service wish-fulfillment shit, instead of only mostly wish-fulfillment shit with a dose of characterization that monogamous romances provide.

I'd just like to point out that this is a college-type setting.

Sleeping around would be fairly appropriate here. 'Locking-in' for any one husbando or waifu isn't necessarily applicable.
If Heather decides she wants to go experiment with xenophilia, that shouldn't mean that the humans are automatically excluded from ever being potential partners without a messy breakup being involved.

It's okay for Heather to go and fool around with Sarvesh or Summer or even Max, and then go and get serious with someone else.

What >>23666247 said, and also, I'm conditioned from previous Exa quests to take it for granted that anyone remotely compatible with the designation of love-interest (which includes all the students except maybe Max) will be romanceable until further notice.
>>
>>23666283
Because it's WAY personal and may send a wrong message.
>>
>>23666297
Max is probably more compatible than Sarvesh or Jilly, biologically speaking, to be honest.
>>
"What kind of social pressure? I can't imagine what she'd find on me."
"She hardly found anything on you." He said. "She's been talking primarily of Anna, Summer, and Damien."
He shrugged.
"Ooh, what did she find out about me?"
"School transcripts, and your parents. That's it, though." He said. "I expect she would be able to find out more if I gave her your username, but again, I asked her not to do it, so there's no reason I would."
"So... um..." You say. "So you can see into the UV ranges, huh?"
"I can, yes. High wavelength infrared, as well."
"I... just wanted to tell you, that in my dream last night, you didn't just confess to me."
"I know exactly what I'd do in that situation." He said, without missing a beat. "I gave you everything I had, asked you to tell my tribe I was sorry, and then teleported you away - or threw you with TK - or saved you some other way."
He paused a moment, and then his entire body went perfectly still.
"So you know exactly how I feel." He said. "And I expect you're here to tell me something about how *you* feel."
He shrugged, almost to loosen himself up. "Take as much time as you wish."
>>
>>23666272
I agree as well. As long as everyone involved is aware that it's not a serious thing, there shouldn't be any problems.
And if we send it by mail, Summer can just never bring it up if she's not interested, no harm done.

I, for one, say we should send that letter, and just start casually.
>>

No, we are not.
>>
I for one support Heather x Every Psychic
>>

>>

And here I disagree with you. So now are back to square one.
>>
>>23666332
Give him a hug.

"You're not clumsy, you should know that.

I don't know Sarvesh. I like you, I really do, I've never been in a serious relationship before. I'm not even sure what I want, whether I want a casual thing, whether I want multiple things, whether I want one serious thing, and I have no clue how everyone else feels about it.

I just told Summer to wait and see on this sort of thing, and I'm conflicted between doing the same thing, or just giving you a kiss and seeing what happens."

>>
>>23666332
Sarvesh, being 17 is a very tough time for humans. Doubly so for me. I was raised by two women and it's really left me with a lot of open ideas about who I am and what I want from life.

I- I don't really think it's fair on anyone, least of all myself, to try to reciprocate feelings of as much depth as you gave me.

I just don't know yet. It's all very hard.

While I'm here at the academy I want to spend the time to get to know who I am. To figure things out.
>>
>>23666498
THIS AND THEN KISS HIM

>>

>>
>And then I forget to make a greentext choice. Whoops.

"I really appreciate your gesture, and you saving my life, even if it was just a dream... because you'd do it for real."
He nodded.
"You're a great person, Sarvesh, fun to hang around and talk shop with, but..." You say. "To be honest. I still have no idea how I feel about you. I've never been in a serious relationship before. I'm not even sure what I want, whether I want a casual thing, whether I want multiple things, or one serious thing, and I have no clue how everyone else feels about it. I just don't know."
He thought about it for a moment, and then nodded.

"Your hair is a color called Bhazzkh." He said. "I spent some time figuring out how a human could say it. It's called Bhaskh."
He shrugged. "That's all I particularly wanted to say."

>>
Look at what you've done, Exabyte.
>>
>>23666591
Alright. Let's just now go somewhere else?
>>
>>23666554
Pretty much this. Heather should be experimenting at this time, and I don't just mean by way of xenophilia. Heather should be learning what sex is like, to figure out who she's into, learning what a relationship means, what it is to love, to break a heart and be heartbroken. Then once she's done these things she can romance someone properly.

>>23666591

While I see your point (and it's better than the haremfags at least), some people don't want to read about high-school quest (especially since it'll either lead to loads of drama or feel way too easy, like having our cake and eating it too), or are already completely set on or against a character and won't budge (I'm 100% anti-Alex myself, mostly favor Anna but all the others would be okay).
>>

He nodded, and you gave him a hug.
"I should go." You say, and he nodded.
"Good luck." He said, and waved to you with his mechanical pincer. You made your way out of the room, and it hissed shut, repressurizing.
Next, you walk to Anna's room... and you can hear her talking, the door wide open.
"No, I'm not going back there." Anna was saying, pacing, wearing a headset. "Yeah, I don't really care about your scientific ramifications. Oh, hey, Heather." She said, waving to you.

There's not (>>23666781 here), you're just underestimating the number of people who either don't want to commit at all, or aren't interested in Sarvesh/xeno-relationships in general (that's me).

Yeah, you're right, but when the replies happen in the same minute it's pretty unlikely, since you can easily samefag this without resorting to proxies. "You're not interrupting anything important." Anna said, and tossed her headset to you. "Here, say hi,"
"Uh... Hi!" You hear a sweet, girlish voice. "I'm, um, Clarissa Stevenson? Is this Heather? Hi, Heather, Anna's told me so much about you!"
'No I didn't!' Anna mouthed.

"... How could you let your own not-daughter eat nothing but brown stuff and green stuff? It's horrible. She'd never even tasted waffles before she came here!"

Let's not, Anna's #1 (or close to it) piece of characterization so far is that she hates people snooping into her private life or disrespecting her personal boundaries - I suspect Damien casually dropping some piece of seemingly innocuous knowledge about her when they first met, as he's wont to do, was what set off their bad relationship.

"Yes, let's!" Anna said, suddenly grinning, and the two of you make your way to the cafeteria, where Jilly was already eating her early-dinner.
"Anna!" Jilly flashed yellow, hugging her. Anna grinned and hugged her back.
while Anna started fussing with her UPA credit chit for the ice cream machine, you just hit the button.
Friend, the ice cream machine called, and you poured some into a bowl for free, adding strawberry, chocolate...
And Anna gave you a mournful look.
"... No cones? I always heard that ice cream came in cones."
You grabbed her one of the cones from the back of the machine, and poured some for her.

"Is it something in it that disagrees with your biology, Jilly? We'll have to look into getting a substitute."
"It's the dairy." She said. "I think. Mom said that snow's really good, though, so I'll try snow one of these days."
"I'm sure we can find some treats that you can enjoy." You say. "I don't know what you can and can't eat, though."
"We eat tiny plants like grass, and algae, and moss..." Jilly said, and giggled. "I really like blue stuff. I don't know why. It always just tastes better."

not that Sorbet isn't good, but there are lots of choices for ice cream replacements
>>
"Hmm, maybe a snowcone then. Yes, that's it! A blue snowcone!" You say.
"Yes, we need to." Anna said. Staring at her cone in your hand, and the mountain of sprinkles and chocolate it had.

You hand it to her , and as she went to lick it, the ice cream fell out of the cone.
You know the feeling, so you catch it with TK, lifting it back up into her cone.
"Is that why you have it in bowls?" Anna asked, and you nodded. You took a lick- and her eyebrows shot up.
"This is delicious! Why would you ever have anything else?"
>>

I wasn't actually implying you meant Sorbet, actually. I was just pointing out that Sorbet is both an option and better than ice cream.

"So what sort of things can you eat, Jilly? Surely moss and sludge would get boring after a while."
"Why would it?" Jilly asked. "There are so many different types! This is a sludge that they use to terraform planets! It tastes kind of... grassy, and airy." She said. "Not as good as terran plankton, though. That's still the best."
She flashed yellow just from the memory.
Anna responded by licking the ice cream, and then taking a big bite out of it.
"So." She said. "What's technopathy like?" She asked you. "Like... can you do it with my implants?

It's pretty much like telepathy. I just say Hi and ask them to do things for me and sometimes they do.

I convinced the ice cream machine that I was a friend, so it likes to give me ice cream.

It's easier to get simple, more whimsical machines to do things. Elysium was very stern, and wouldn't do anything much for me.

You nod.
"Huh. Do mine have personalities?"
"I, uh... really don't think it would be a good idea to try." You say. "But it should be possible, in theory."
"They won't burn out." She said. "They were made to be really sturdy, and I have pyrokinesis, remember? I can just absorb the extra heat they generate as calories, and I can act as a ground. It'll be fine."

You nod, and then focus...

>Is everyone okay with [transgenes]?
Not everyone and every world. Some think that 'You am play gods!!!', some just get kind of squicked by the idea, or a handful of other reasons.
>Are there genetic purists?
There are. UPA has a population of trillions, and so there's probably at least *someone* who thinks in a certain way.
>Are the kind of genes being used like that of the gene sharks carry that allows them to regrow their teeth or are they more subtle?
There are subtle ones, there are larger, more comprehensive ones, there are all kinds.
>Are people still going in this day and age with the same shitty argument of "You am play gods!!!"?
Yep. There's always someone.
>>
>>23668565
What about the uplift ageing?
>>
>>23668592
Are you talking about late and early uplifts, or something else?
>>
>>23668565
Okay well is the outlook on new sciences still based on fear and ignorance? With people coming up with arguments like "nanotechnology will destroy the world!!!". (See Grey Goo argument or this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0dYPnui3rM )
>>
>>23668618
I think he's talking about how the animals that are uplifted don't have very long lifespans compared to humans, such as wolves only living to be 20ish.
Are there transgenes that make them live longer is the question.
>>
>>23668618
All of them. Are they modified as part of the uplift process, or are Max and Summer going to die really soon?

>You am play gods
>>
>>23668592
>>23668663
Yes and no. Some are, some aren't. Usually, early-uplifts are heavily transgened for longer lifespan, the ability to eat more diverse foods, and various other enhancements. Specifically, Max is not transgened, while Summer is. Technically, Max is only seven years old, while Summer ages at the same rate as a human being does.
>>23668623
People never ever change.
>>
>>23668565
How do people feel about the ethics of uplifts. I already somewhat posed the hypothetical wrt uplifts and romantic/breeding prospects (horrible), but also, do most people view being uplifted as an intrinsically good thing (i.e. uplifts are always better off than if they hadn't been uplifted)? Are there groups that think uplifts would be better off as regular animals, or conversely, ones that believe that uplifting should either be illegal or mandatory, as denying some animals a chance at intelligence while giving it to others is too close to playing god, or simply ethically bankrupt? Obviously uplifting every animal would be a logistically impossible goal, but that doesn't invalidate the philosophical argument.

While there are a lot of different views on uplift ethics, the UPA's government has decided on a view that all uplifts, be they late or early, are to be considered a fourth race in the alliance. They don't try to extend their reach to planets explicitly, and leave the planets to govern themselves. Some planets have laws against it, some have laws toward mandatory uplifts for endangered animals, and some think that all animals deserve uplifting and colonies. They're taking donations to terraform the moon of Zelful into a terran environment, and then uplifting enough spider monkeys to start an uplift-only colony there.
