>Sitting in the charger and refueling on phaeron, Einstien sat. You could check his data at any time, you knew: http://pastebin.com/CaAF0yS8

Sitting back on your favorite couch in the house, you simply leaned back, relaxing into the infinite fluffiness of the cushions, Anna sitting on the other end. She looked this way and that - at the picture of you and your family, Einstein in the lower corner, one of you and Alex at seven years old, and one of just your parents, twenty years younger.
"Just a few more minutes!" Your dad said, as she flipped something that hissed on the skillet.

"Hey, hun." Your mother said, covered in grease as she sat back in her recliner. She held a grease-covered hand out toward Anna- and then realized, and wiped her hand on her overalls until it was something approaching clean.
"Hi, my name is Allison." She said.
"Anna." Anna responded, taking it. "I'm one of heather's friends from school."
"Nice to meet you!" Mom said.

>Anything I say in greentext is less canon than what I say in the narrative. Also, when I named Anna I'd completely forgotten about mom.

"It's good to see you, Mom! It feels like it's been a lot longer than a week. How have things been?"
"Well... Things are a bit harder at work without you around to help, but now I can spend more time with Sally without you around to get in our hair." She said, and stuck her tongue out at you.

"Hey, mom!" You say, sitting forward. "Look what I can do."

With your mind, you reach out, and pluck up a vase, telekinetically hovering in front of the television. You focused, and the television clicked on, the two trid panels sliding out of the wall to display a hovering 'Ta-da!' with sparks and fireworks.

"... Huh." Your mom said, reaching out to grab the vase. "That's... really cool! How did you turn the TV on? And control it? Is it like a... psychic version of one of those mental implants?"

"I've developed technopathy! Which is exactly what it sounds like."
Her eyes widened.
"That's so cool! Come on, let's test it out." She said, and sprung to her feet. " What can you do, Anna?"
"I can shoot lightning from my fingers, but I can't lift things." Anna said. Your mom wiped off both hands again, and grabbed yours and Anna's, tugging you all the way to the mechanics bay.
There, you saw a large aircar being refueled and painted, alongside the normal mechanical debris that sat around - your mom had a lot of projects, and she never quite finished any of them.
"I haven't had time to finish this walking drone's programming." Your mom said, pointing to a large, four-legged drone, six pinpoints of light that served as its eyes.
The eyes of the drone were arranged exactly like the scythe creatures' eyes. You suppressed a shiver.
"Can you see if you can make it move, heather?"

"I'll give it a try!" You say, and hone in on the drone.
It was entirely, utterly devoid of thought. It was like an empty puppet, and you simply... pushed your mind inside, and made it take a stuttering, clumsy step forward. And then another. And then a third. The long, stilt-like legs took a bit getting used to, but soon enough, it was able to hop from the ground to the aircar, and then spring off onto a nearby workshop table.
Your mom laughed, and clapped.
Anna was simply looking around, curious.
"Wonderful!" She said, grinning up at it. "Oh! That reminds me! How have your ion boots been doing?"

You tell your mom about school as you, her, and Anna all make your way back to the living room, and then your dad comes out, plates balanced precariously in her hands.
"Breakfast burritos!" She said. "Yeah, it's lunch, but I slept in, and before I knew it, I started making the wrong thing."
She laughed and scratched the back of her head, cheeks pinkening.
You sit down again and start to eat while your mother cleans up, and your dad goes back into the kitchen to grab sodas for everyone.
"They seem really nice." Anna said, quietly.

"Well, the pool might be better." She said, and pushed the back of one of her hands against her forehead.
"You doing okay?"
"The heat's kind of been getting to me, so I want to stay inside for a bit, where it's cool." She said. "At least I don't have to walk as much as I feared, though."

"Take as long as you need." You say, tossing one to her - she caught it. "That's what this place is for. Resting and relaxation."
She spent some time fussing with the pull tab, but got it before you could offer to help.
"I will." She said, and took a careful sip, before holding the can up to her forehead.

"To tell someone where we were going?"
"I told professor Neva yesterday."
"Take your medicine?"
"Tch." She said, rolling her eyes. "I forgot that on purpose."
"A swimsuit."
"I can swim in this, and I'm wearing a swimsuit underneath."
"That we were planning to repaint the ship?"
"... I did forget that, but that's not what I'm talking about. I forgot about my pyrokinesis."
She closed her eyes for a moment, and a chill entered the air.
"So um... the heat won't actually be a problem. In fact, being really warm might actually help me, because the more I cool things down, the more calories it gives me."

"Yeah. Let's go now, then." She said, and finished off the last of her soda while you put the ice cream back.

The pool was as cool and clean as ever, and you heard the cicidas in the trees not far from here. Dumping her hat and sandals in the shade, Anna promptly sat down and stuck her feet into the pool.
"So um." She said. "Let's try to make sure I don't drown."

"I've got telekinesis." You say, untying your sarong and putting it in the shade. "If you fall, I'll just lift you. Einstein, stay in the shade."
With a 'hup', you swung your legs into the shallow end, making your way in with a splash.
"Just jump in the shallower end, and I'll help you through the basics!"
"Alright." She said, and climbed in.
"Just slowly lift your legs until you're floating. It's easy." You say.
She closed her eyes and relaxed under your direction, and soon enough, she was floating on her back.
"... You're right." She said. "This is a lot like zero-G. Not quite like it, but close enough. I could probably move around like I do in-pressure, with zero-G." She said, and made a splash as she kicked her feet, propelling her.

Some time later, you'd taught her enough to keep her from drowning, and she was quickly picking up the rest. There was one incident where she'd inadvertently froze the top of the pool, holding her there for a time until the sun melted it, but other than that, there were no problems.

Anna lounged to the side of the pool, eyes closed.
And then suddenly, the entire sky started to go dark.
Ys had risen - and it was an eclipse, like it was sometime around every month. The great white planet covered the white sun in its entirety, blocking almost all the light, and it looked like it was night.

Anna opened her eyes and gasped up at the stars.
"This is too weird." She said, suddenly.
>>

"Eclipse day?"
"Happens every month." you say, and the large white planet started to move on. "It doesn't last very long, but it can be very enchanting."

"I can see how." She said, as light started to come back, and once again everything was sunny as usual. Ys was close, but rather large, and orbited once and a half times each day. You're rather lucky that you hadn't gone to the beach first - the tides would've been really bad for Anna.
"... My skin feels weird." She said, and you give her a look- and she was starting to get bright red.
And then you realize what would happen to someone who'd spent all their time in space and inside suddenly came out to lounge in the sun.

"Uh... okay." Anna said, and made her way into the shade.
You run inside, skid across the floor with your wet feet, and then pull open a drawer and grab the lotion.
She was lucky she was wearing a shirt and swim shorts instead of a bikini like yours - less of her skin was exposed.
"Oh fuck that's cold." She said, arching her back when you start to rub lotion into her shoulders and neck. "I'll... um, do my own legs." She said. "Hand me the lotion?"
You hand it to her, and she started reading the instructions.

>Hardlight constructs? Basic hologram tech hasn't been perfected yet. Trid is as close as it gets.

You pick up the omnitool, a simple wrist computer armed with various tools, and loaded with all the fabrication parts you could find - right now you only got the plastics fabrication working and programmed, and you were having real trouble with the alloy fabrication - you remember giving up on it because you got so frustrated with it.

"The omnitool!" You say, and slip it on, extending a ratchet from it with a button. "How could I forget that? Thanks, mom!"
"No problem." She said.
"Hey, do you think I could borrow the paint drones for a bit? Anna wants to get her ship repainted, for... uh, reasons."
"Oh, that's fine." She said. "They're in that box right there. Might be a bit heavy, but the two of you should be able to carry it. Just make sure to bring it back when you're done."

"Heavy?" You ask. "Mom, I broke a polycarbon array. I can lift these no problem."
"Oh, I'd forgotten!" She said, and giggled. "Right, right."
You reach out with telekinesis, and lift it from the ground. It quivered, but you'd hardly used any of your powers today. Normally you'd be training by this time, but for now, you were raring to go.
When you make your way back out to Anna, you find her trying on your sarong, having taken off the wet shirt and swim trunks, wearing the black bikini underneath. She swished her hips this way and that- and then whirled around when you came near.
"Uh. Hi." she said, awkwardly.

"Looks good on you, Anna. Do you want to hang on to it?" You say, and giggle. "Shall we go and paint the ship? I've got the paintbots if you're ready to go."
You nod at the levitating crate, which was almost as difficult to hold up as it would be with your arms.
"Uh, Y-yeah." She said, with a nod, squeezing the water out of her shorn shirt and trunks, as she hung it to dry. "Let's go."
"What'll it be, captain? Paint or haircut?"
"Let's haircut first." She said. You nod, and set the crate down just inside. "Maybe we can get more of those lobster shaped ice cream things."

The two of you made your way out to the monorail, and you hit the touchpad calling for it. It whirred by, and the two of you climbed in. Anna seemed somewhat less shy about the bikini - most likely after seeing most of the pedestrians and people on the rail wearing the same sort of things.
Some time later, it stopped off at the mall.
"What do you think would look good on me?" She asked. "Other than making it just shorter."

You extend the trid screen on your omnitool, and angle it right so that she can see it, and technopath an image of Anna in a bob cut. Her eyes widened.
"... That would be perfect!" she said, grinning, and the two of you strolled down to the hair salon. You sit Anna down in one of the seats there, and scrolled through the list of hairstyles until Anna found the one she wanted.

"So, what color should I choose?" Anna asked, her nose wrinkling when the machine tugged at her hair now and then. "Not for the hair, I'm keeping it black, but for the wyvern."

"Just because I'm asking for your advice doesn't mean I need to take it, if your advice is horrible." She said.
"Get one of those fancy ultraviolet colors that Sarvesh talks about." You say, the color in your mind from your dream. It *was* kind of reddish, though you know that's not how the wavelength of light works.
"I don't even know what that would look like." She said. "And that's the problem."
"How about... grey and light blue accents? It's not as threatening as red and black, but that's not really a bad thing."

"Yeah, that sounds like it'll look good!" You say.
After Anna's haircut gets completed, the machine let go of her hair, and it all fell into place. Most of her hair cut directly below her jawline, her bangs were cut half an inch above her eyebrows. It wasn't that common a style around Heaven's Jewel, and if you'd seen her like this instead of the wild long mess she had before, you'd have instantly assumed she was a spacer.
She shook her head from side to side, and looked into a mirror.
She grinned at her own reflection.
"I like it." She said, and hopped to her feet, paying the machine. "Now, should we go straight to the spaceport and paint it, or should we go somewhere else in the mall first?"

"I'm starting to rethink getting the alcohol for you." Anna said, as the two of you grabbed some more lobster-shaped ice cream cookies. "On some worlds, it'd be giving alcohol to a minor."
Then she thought about it for a moment, and gave you a somewhat evil grin. "Have you had any experience with alcohol?"

You give her a grin.
"Sounds like a plan! I'll stock up on lobster ice cream if you grab the booze!"
"I will!" She said, gave you a thumbs up, and she ran off.

"... I'm rather offended that you called this treat 'lobster ice cream'." The old man at the stand said. "As you should well know by now, it has it's groundings in taiyaki, created nearly seven hundred years ago..."
And then you were treated to a fifteen minute rant, as the old man explained the long and storied history of the treat, and by the time you've made your purchases of a small horde of the things, Anna had returned, bags in her arms.
Then you realize that he hadn't explained what the things were *called*.

"I think I have everything." Anna said, and appraised you with an eye. "You know... I think kahlua would suit you. I also think that with enough, you would be the most dangerous force in the universe."

"Ooooo~ tell me more." you say. "Is it... sweet?"
"It is! But I'll keep everything else secret." She said. "I will, however tell you that I was able to score something I thought I'd never find around here." She said, and pulled a flask out of one of the bags. "Fermented Ekyzzka extract. Has a nasty smell and burns your nose, but it's a centaur drink that just so happens to be incredibly alcoholic."
She gave you another grin. "Let's go, then. Painting, next?"
You nod, and the two of you make your way out of the mall, and hit the monorail, riding it back home so you could pick up the crate (and so Anna could put the sarong with her other clothing, and pull on her now-dried shorts and shirt).

"Welcome back, you two." Your mom said, while Anna slid the bags full of alcohol next to her bags full of clothing, hoping your mother wouldn't notice. "How long do you plan on staying by? Feel free to stay the night, if you want, Anna."

>>
"Einstein, how does the time match up between here and the station?"
"Heaven's Jewel is three hours ahead of the Institute in question." Einstein responded.
"If we stay, we'll miss Pheles leaving, and it'd be easier for me to sleep on the station." Anna said. "There's less gravity there."
"We're probably going to have to go soon. Sorry mom." You say. "We've got classes and brain-training tomorrow."
"Oh, that's fine." Mom said, and gave you a kiss on the forehead. "You can visit again next weekend, or the next."
>>

"I might do that. I'll be sure to call ahead of time before I come. I could even make my own ship with more room than Anna's though not as fast, bring more of my friends to visit

I love you Mom." Give her a hug and a kiss, and then let's go paint that ship.
>>
>>23757440
"I'll try! I'll definetely visit when I get my own ship done though. Anna's dad even look at my design, it's great!"
>>
"Of course!" You say, and kiss her on the cheek. "Well, I don't want to impose on Anna too much. I already owe her way too many favours."
"You paid me back the favor you owed me, if you remember." Anna said.
"But when I build my own ship, I can go wherever I want! Ooh, do you want to see the plans?"
"Of course!" Your mom responded, and you had Einstein send the schematics to the TV. It flicked on, and your mom looked it over.
"It looks good!" she said. "Kind of familiar... I think I've seen that same cargo bay and maintenance bot design before... but it looks good!"

"Thanks, mom." You say. "We'll be back with the paintbots soon!"
"Alright, take care!" She said.

Anna picked up her own clothes and the drinks, while you stacked the ice cream lobsters on top of the paintbots and lifted it, your own new clothes in hand, and you hit the monorail to go to the starport.

Not long later, the two of you arrived at the starport, and Anna started loading up the wyvern with all of your stuff, strapping it into the cargo bay, while you set up and customized the paintbots.
They weren't truly paintbots, in that they didn't quite shoot paint - instead they stimulated the layers of plasma between the polycarbon plating into changing colors, making the entire hull change color.
Then the bots got to work, and anna lay back on top of the ship, pulling herself up on top of an already-painted patch, waiting.
"You know how I got this?" She asked. "Wyvern, I mean."
>>
>>23757717

"Nope. The crew of the Dragon were the ones that almost mutinied, back when I captained it."
"You pirated it?"
"Right!" She said.
You blink.
"Well... yes *and* no." She said. "We - Blackreach, I mean - got hired to go down to a demiurg world. They got hold of a bubble drive somehow, and that was something the UPA really couldn't afford. We already have a big problem with the demiurg, and the only reason they haven't dominated the galaxy is because they don't have FTL or quantum entanglement. So we went down there - I was piloting the Manticore at the time - and the crew started kicking ass, as they do. Ferret interrogated a few demiurg engineers, and they told us that the drive was being fitted to an overlord's ship, on a space platform. So we landed on the platform, all of us exosuited up, and then we killed the warlord, I got one of those bore things in my arm, and then we stole it. I called dibs on it, forfeited half my pay, spent the rest fixing it up."

"They have really small hands." She said. "So their controls have buttons like... really close to eachother, in little patches. And they don't use joysticks or wheels. Instead you have to shift your weight in the chair or whatever."
"Wow. If you kill the warlord does that make you the new warlord?"

"You managed to escape in a ship while bleeding to death after killing a warlord? Didn't rescue any helpless maidens or rob an evil organization after that, then?"
"... Well, if Alex counts as a helpless maiden, and if ArmaTek counts as an evil organization, then... yep." She said.
"You're like some her out of the movies! What else have you done?"
"Uh, more fighting demiurg, on a different contract." She said. "Basic dogfight stuff. Then there was the time we had to steal something from some guy that was too rich for his own good. We pretended I was Ox's daughter, so that the guy would inevitably capture me... and then there was the time I got my torso cut up ... but that's a different story.
She shrugged, and closed her eyes.
"You know, Heather? I'm really glad I have some time to just sit and relax. Ever since dad shut himself down, I've been working and fighting and flying everywhere. I'm glad to have some time off. Thank you."

"Yeah, it is." She said.

Eventually, the paintbot crate pinged, signalling that it was done.
Anna sat up, and climbed off of the wyvern, taking a few steps to take it in. You do as well - it was a greyish turqouise, with stronger blue accents around the edges, the wings, the flaps... but there were no accents around the panels that hid the weapons, as you guessed Anna intended - it would be easier to hide that way.

And then Anna looked back up to the sky. You saw Fura slowly hiding behind Ys, the two moons about in the same location by now.
She was perfectly, utterly still.
"Do you hear that?" She asked. "That... static?"

"I... no? I don't think I can hear any static." You say, and close your eyes. You reach outward with technopathy- and her implants were heating up, her entire body tense. You tap into it... and then you can hear it too.
Static.
And then a ping. A ping of a distress beacon.
"This is the UNE Ishelda, Engineer... William Hayes." A long dead voice spoke into Anna's brain, and through her implant, into yours. "We need help. My god, send help."
You hear the sound of screeching metal, and the long-dead voice came back, breathy, panting.
"They're... they're killing us. they're killing all of us! Send help! SEND HELP!"

And then there were two blasts of a gunshot, and a piercing scream.
And then silence.
The static faded.
