>Sorry for being late! Better than not questing at all today.

Something terrible was happening.

The sun was going down.
You were lying on the edge of your pool, with everyone else either relaxing like you, swimming, or trying to dunk one another (Damien and Alex were the latter), and the sun was slowly making it's way over the sky, before it fell behind one of your neighbor's houses, covering all of you in shade.

"Aww, man." Summer's manifestation said, reclining on herself. She was wearing a shockingly yellow and red bikini, and spent most of her manifestation's lifetime drowning or trying not to drown, even winking out of existance once.
"This does mean we can go watch movies on the beach, though." Sarvesh said, scrubbing his abdomen with his lower arms.
"I love the beach." Jilly added, and behind her facemask, she almost looked like she was smiling- maybe her facial muscles were developed more, now that she was undergoing transgene therapy. Your parents were inside, working on dinner- apparently the two of them were working on a very, very large meal for you and your friends- and your dad was working on something for Jilly, surprisingly. She'd borrowed an ancient, stagnant aquarium from the basement for it.
>>
>>24054178
"The beach is great."
Do we know how long dinner is going to take? There probably isn't enough time to go down to the beach and watch a whole movie and get back, so that will have to wait until afterwards.

>your dad was working on something for Jilly
That and the chocolate thing earlier seem to imply she's quite familiar with Nagala. I wonder what the story is there.

>Sorry for being late!
I thought you were going to be hours late, not 10 minutes late.
>>
>>24054178
"Dinner should be ready soon, but let's get things ready for movies afterwards!"
>>
yeah, the beach here is pretty awesome...I think I took it for granted when I lived here...
>>
>>24054348
>I thought so too, actually. My plans are still up in the air, and I might miss tomorrow instead of this weekend.

"Dinner should be ready soon, but let's get things ready for movies afterwards!"
"I can fashion together an easily portable projector screen." Sarvesh said. "Ms. Leery, may I use your workshop for a short while?"
"Go ahead, Sarvesh." Mom responded, and he nodded, making his way into the workshop.

Eventually, you and everyone else makes their way out of the pool, drying themselves off, and making their way inside. Damien started helping himself to most of the snacks.
"... Do you always have to have snacks?" Anna asked. "Like... all the time? Twenty four seven? Even when we're about to have a meal?"
"Yep. I have a sweet tooth, and that's a completely real medical condition." Damien responded, and held out the bag. "Want one?"
Anna gingerly took a handful of chips.
>>
>>24054394
"But chips aren't sweet..."
>>
>>24054394
"How are you not even slightly fat? Does your ESP really use that much energy?"
>>
"But chips aren't sweet..." You say.
"Yeah, non sweet snacks is just a hobby of mine, and not part of my medical condition at all." Damien said, a wry grin on his face.
"How are you not even slightly fat? Does your ESP really use that much energy?"
"It's my metabolism." He said. "And maybe something to do with growing up on a high-G world." He held out the bag to you, but was interrupted when your parents came in.

And they had burgers. For Sarvesh, your dad had made a strange bowl of something- they looked like burritos, on first glance, and were filled with fish, dipped in something like mashed potato. She shot him a grin as he looked down at it.
"I can't pronounce what it is, I'm afraid." Your dad said, and giggled. Sarvesh chuckled as well, and started to pick at it with his mandibles.
"Chal'zeek." Sarvesh said. "I am... very impressed that you know how to make it."
Your dad giggled again, and went to grab the aquarium. Anna crunched into her burger, opening another soda.

For a moment, you wonder what your father did back before she became a stay-at-home father. Your parents had never told you, and the few times you asked, they'd changed the subject.
>>
>>24054394
"It seems your constant clairvoyance is really draining you out of energy huh?"
>>
>>24054554
>Almost missed the thread!

"Who's going to choose today's movie?"
>>
>>24054554
"I guess you can make anything with Extranet recepies and a little bit of experience with cooking"
>>
>>24054554
>well I'm sure dad will never be plot-relevant...unless you're pulling a bluff on us! I see what you're doing here!

"I've missed your cooking a lot, even if the sheer range of different meals available in the cafeteria is staggeringly large. Still, when you can have your favorite meal every day, it loses a bit of its appeal, and the feed's never this well-made."
>>
>>24054554
"Is it a rare recipe or something? A family meal passed on through generations?"
>>
>>24054554
She was a Pirate King, duh.
>>
>>24054554
"Dad, were you and mom the Pirate King and Queen?"
>>
"Is it a rare recipe or something? A family meal passed on through generations?"
"It's rare because nobody tends to make it. It's probably the most obscure meal you could think of." Sarvesh said, unpeeling the burrito with his mandibles.
"I guess you can make anything with Extranet recipes and a little bit of experience with cooking." You say. "Well, I've missed your cooking a lot." You add.
"Of course you do, hun." Dad said, before taking her own seat. Jilly stuck her tongues into the aquarium, and shimmered yellow again.

"So who's going to choose today's movie?" You ask.
"We can watch more Die Hard in Space." Anna said. "There are still several dozen sequels, all more ridiculous and inconsistent than the last."
"I know!" Summer said. "We could watch-"
"No." Damien, Anna, and Alex said simultaneously.
Summer pouted. "I was going to say... We could watch Jaws. The really really old one, about people stuck somewhere. A giant shark eats them one by one."
"A horror movie?" Sarvesh asked. "... I could find that one on the extranet somewhere, I guess."
>>
>>24054774
"Huh, don't think I've seen that one. I don't mind."
>>
>>24054736
Hehehehehe, this
>>
>>24054774
"Heh, that sounds like a good one."
>>
>>24054774
What about one of the Aliens movies? They're horror movies and they're ridiculous and inconsistent, everyone wins.
>>
>>24054774
"What's the scariest movie you can all think of?"
>>
"Heh, that sounds like a good one." You say. "But what about one of the Aliens movies? They're horror movies and they're ridiculous and inconsistent. Everyone wins."
"But it's not even in trid." Sarvesh grumbled.
"... Sarvesh, do you... not like scary movies?" Anna asked.
"Pff, why would I not like scary movies?" Sarvesh asked. "I have, after all, three inches of carapace plating covering the majority of my body, and the ability to recover from any wound in a process of hours, if I were to so choose. There's nothing to be afraid of."
Jilly started giggling, flashing yellow.
>>
>>24054903
Pat him on his nearest body part. "Of course not Sarvesh."
Then TP him <Don't worry. I'll protect you.>
>>
>>24054903
"All the carapace in the world can't protect you from GHOOOOOOSTS!"

With appropriately over-the-top arm waggles.
>>
>>24054903
"Scary movie night! Woo woo!"
>>
>>24054930
Oh god, this, please.
>>
>>24054930
Or we could manifest an image of a ghost. Just an image we don't want to exhaust ourselves.
Also we didnt take our pill.
>>
"All the carapace in the world can't protect you from ghooooosts!" You say, waggling your arms, pantomiming the universal arm signal for 'ghosts', before going back to your burger and reminding yourself to take another pill after dinner.
"But the movie we'll be watching will be about aliens and sharks and stuff." Sarvesh said.
Grinning, you reach into his mind. <Don't worry. I'll protect you.>
<I'll hold you to that.> Sarvesh said.
>>
>>24055003
"Come to think of it Sarvesh, what do Centaurs scare their little kids with? Are you like humans and you scare them with Monsters and stuff?"
>>
>>24055003
"No, I've changed my mind. I'm voting for a ghost movie."
>>
"No, I've changed my mind. I'm voting for a ghost movie."
"Yes, let's find some ghost movie!" Summer said. "Scary movie night!"
Sarvesh sighed.
"Come to think of it, Sarvesh, what do centaurs scare their little kids with? Are you like humans and you scare them with monsters and stuff?"
"Horror movies weren't quite in our culture until we joined up with the UPA, I think. Nowadays it's whatever humanity makes, most of the time." He grumbled.

Time passed, and dinner was done. You take your pill, and when you look out the window, night was already fallen.
"Well..." Mom said. "Since you guys will have too much stuff to carry on the monorail, I might as well... lend you this."
She grinned, and tossed you the keys to the groundcar. "Take care of it." She said.
>>
>>24055190
"This is truly the greatest night."

I'm assuming we know how to drive.
>>
>>24055190
"Thanks Mom. I'll bring it back without a scratch, and if I do, I can buy you a new one!"
>>
>>24055234
We can just ask the car to be safe for us.
>>
>>24055190
"Oh man, if only I was going out on a date for ultimate movie cheesiness! Oh well, thanks mom!"
>>
>>24055190
Do we know how to drive?
"I just hope the back seat is clean"
>>
>>24055276
I am guessing that you would not let your daughter drive other people in your car if she didn't know how to drive. Because that would just be insanely irresponsible.
>>
>>24055312
True.
>>
>>24054736
Before we depart for movies, I'd really like this asked
>>
>>24055276
We could just ask the nice Ms. Groundcar to drive us there
>>
"This is truly the greatest night." You say. "I'll bring it back without a scratch, and if I do, I can buy you a new one!"
"If you scratch it, you *won't* get to help me take it apart and upgrade it!" Mom said.

"Dad, were you and mom the pirate king and queen?" You ask, suddenly, grinning at her.
Dad just ruffled your hair. "Yes, we were," She said, sarcastically. "We have all sorts of treasure hidden everywhere."
You frowned at her, and then you and your friends climbed inside. Somehow, Damien ended up in the passenger seat, with Anna and Summer's manifestation in the seat behind. The rest ended up in the bed of the groundcar, and you set off.

"... Wait." Damien said. "Why did you end up getting a seat, summer?" He asked, and chuckled.
"Because I got here first, and Alex didn't seem to realize he could make my manifestation vanish." She said, and giggled.
Focusing on driving, you make your way to the small, hidden beach.

And apparently, Summer had made too many engineers.
The castle was nearly three times wider, a veritable fortress, now, with sand battlements and under-sand tunnels.
"Oops." Summer said. "I shouldn't have left them running."
>>
>>24055359
"Yessss, it is awesome!"
>>
>>24055359
"Yes you should. That is awesome."
>>
>>24055359
"Ha ha ha ha holy shit that's amazing."
>>
>>24055359
"Soon they shall control the Beach, and next the OCEAN! [poor attempt in an evil laugh that ends up just being insanely cute giggling thing]"
>>
>>24055359
"Nooo! Leave it running the entire night! Give them some enemies to fight as well!"
>>
>>24055359
"This...is...awesome! I think we should build another castle and watch them train tiny little soldiers which will fight each other"
>>
>>24055359
Oh man, give them some stuff to incorporate into their designs.
>>
>>24055414
No, too bloody for fun.
>>
Should we get Summer to manifest tools for them to turn the castle into glass?
>>
"Noo!" You say. "Leave it running the entire night! This is awesome!" You cry, giggling down at them. "Soon, they will control the beach, and next... the Ocean!"
You cackle madly, and Anna covered her hand with her mouth as she started to giggle.
"I can see it now." Damien said. "Tens of tens of people will get sand in their eyes, as the small chivalrous knights throw their chosen weapon into the eyes of the grand giants..."
"That's amazing." You say.
"Fine, I'll leave them going for now." Summer said, and climbed out of the groundcar. Sarvesh, Jilly, and Summer made their way out, Alex climbing out after them.

"So, let's watch some movies, shall we?" Damien asked, and Sarvesh set up the projector.
>>
>>24055523
"Do it! The scariest movie possible! Gogogo!"
>>
>>24055523
"Jaws or Alien? Ooooh, no, Mörkö!"
>>
>>24055523
"Yes, let's show our little friends what the giants are scared of!"
>>
"Do it! The scariest movie possible!" You say. "Go go go!"
Damien grinned, and gave Einstein an order for a certain movie...
Ghosts In Space Twelve.

By the end of it, with the slowly creeping ghoul walking toward the protagonists, refusing to die... Anna giggled.
"The CG is so fake." She said. "Look, you can see the tridcorder in that reflection there! And in that reflection, you can see the suit of the ghoul before they put CG in it!"
She giggled.
"They should have fixed all that in post production."

Sarvesh was covering his eyes with his pincers, curled up. He'd done this since the first person was murdered, the screaming girl tripping over her heels. He was incredibly tense, while Damien, Alex, Summer, and even Jilly didn't seem to be very scared of the movie.
>>
>>24055662
"Huehueheuhe. What a classic film."
>>
>>24055662
Reach a hand out and hold Sarvesh's hand.
>>
>>24055662
<summer what ever you do don't manifest a few howling ghouls behind us ;)>
>>
>>24055662
Aww. Hug Sarvy, we said we'd protect him.
>>
>>24055662
Hug Sarvesh.
<Don't worry I got you.>
>>
>>24055662
"Let's watch another movie, Sarvesh."

<It'll take your mind off that one.>
>>
>>24055662

try to comfort Sarvesh a little.

i hope Summer doesn't manifest ghouls.
>>
>>24055704
yes do this
>>
"Huehuehue, what a classic film." You say, grinning at the ghoul covered in bad CGI, before making your way over to Sarvesh. Sitting on his abdomen, you give him a hug.
<Don't worry, I got you.> You say.
<I'm erm, perfectly fine.> Sarvesh lied. <Not chilling at all.>

Soon enough, the movie was over, and Summer, despite being mildly freaked out, eventually lowered his arms, watching the movie proper.

You turn to summer, and reach out. <Summer, whatever you do, don't manifest a few howling ghouls behind us.>

<That's hilarious! I'm going to do that!> Summer called, and from the beach behind you, two loud screeches came from behind the car. Jilly went green, Anna reached for something from her bag... and they charged down toward you- and Sarvesh moved fast. His lower arms secured you in place, while his pincers tore one ghoul's arms off, his front legs slamming into the second.

Everyone looked back to see Sarvesh with manifested ghoul arms in his pincers.
"Um." He said.
>>
>>24055815
"Ahahah! Awesome!"
>>
>>24055815
"My knight in the shining carpace!"
>>
>>24055815
"Uh, you alright big guy?"
>>
>>24055815
"looks like you weren't scared at all."
>>
>>24055815
"What does everyone want to do now? Head back and sleep? Stay here and camp out?"
>>
>>24055815
"Huh."
>>
>>24055815
> Summer, despite being mildly freaked out,
>Sarvesh, even.

"Ahahahah!" You say, sitting on Sarvesh's back. "Awesome! You alright, big guy? Looks like you weren't scared at all."
"... That really helped." He said, and chuckled. "It's entirely different when it's something I can stop, or even control in any way."
"You're welcome." Summer said.
>>
>>24055925
"Perfect! Now you'll be able to sleep!"

Check on sand-civilisation
>>
>>24055954
I say we should give them enemies to fight. Then they wouldn't attack people.
>>
"Perfect!" You say. "Now you'll be able to sleep!"
"Yes, it is quite perfect." He said, starting to calm down. The two ghoul bodies on the ground vanished, and Summer pouted.

Before Jilly wrapped the tiger up in her tail, still bright green.
"Why'd you have to do that?" Jilly asked. "You scared me really really badly." She cried, hanging onto Summer tightly.

"What does everyone want to do now? Head back and sleep? Stay here and camp out?"
"... Let's camp out." Damien said. "Unless you want to drag someone up to your bedroom at night, that is." He said, smiling wryly.
>>
>>24055925
Another movie, something with robots, and romance!

Then sit on summer so we can whisper while it plays.
>>
>>24056090
<Curse your machine spirit Damien, for foiling my magnificent plans!>
>>
>>24056090
"Camping it is! Make sure you don't sleep too close to the water, or the tide will get you when the moons move."
>>
>>24056090
It gets awfully cold at night in the dry season. But if summer can manifest enough tents and blankets, then lets!

Of we could sleep in the sandcastle!
>>
>>24056090
If I do, that's my business.
We would listen to polycarbon 6 ALL NIGHT LONG.
>>
>>24056093
This except for sit on Sarvesh
>>
>>24056090
"We'll need tents and blankets! I hope I didn't leave them back home."
>>
>>24056164
No. Not everything has to be Sarvesh.

Plus, Summer is actually comfortable.
>>
>>24056090

camp out here but see if mom and dad need the car early in the morning.

don't reach out with our mind, all the kids are away and we really don't want to repeat what we did earlier.

>oh Damien you perv.
>>
>>24056090
<(Pout)> (at Damien)

"If only we knew some one who could make tents big enough for all of us"

(send a email off to mom and dad :camping on the beach good night"
>>
>>24056180
Everything doesn't have to be Sarvesh
Because everything already is Sarvesh.
Damien is Sarves
Summer is Sarvesh
Mom and Dad are Sarvesh
Heather is Sarvesh
Sarvesh loves Sarvesh the whole time
>>
>>24056180
This, summer is warm and fuzzy. And we have to pay her back for making her furr all greasy
>>
>>24056180
Agreeing with this, Summer for #1 seat.
>>
>>24056223
By lying on her? That doesnt seem like a good way to repay things. To use sentient tigers as lying mats.
>>
"Camping it is!" You say, frowning at Damien. "Make sure you don't sleep too close to the water, or the tide will get you when the moons move."
"Right." Jilly said.
"It gets awfully cold at night, in the dry season, but if Summer can manifest enough tents and blankets..."
"It won't be a problem!" She said, and manifested enough camping equipment for everyone. Everyone dragged the blankets out, save Sarvesh, and lay down on them, looking up to the projector.
"Another movie." You say. "Something with robots. And romance!"
"Yes." Summer said. You pulled up your omnitool, and started to search through.

... Near Future Cyborg. Huh. Apparently, the main character was a male cyborg who got hit by a car...

"I have to do this!" The robot cried. "I have to, or I won't be a person!"
"Please." The ship's AI - who was obviously in love with the robot- responded. "Don't do this."
Yyou sobbed, hugging Summer. She cried on your shoulder as well.

"Hey." The protagonist said, tearing open the black hole with bullshit hacking... "Oracle told me where you went."
The robot turned... and cried. She was worth finding.

And then the credits started to roll. It ended on a cliffhanger?! Who does that?!

>Field too long!
>>
>>24056280
You hug Summer, trying to regain your composure. Anna pretended that she wasn't crying as well, and Jilly was hugging Anna tightly, her skin yellow- yet tinged very slightly purple.

Damien and Alex were watching the castle be built, and Sarvesh... was asleep.

You'd never seen the centaur sleeping before. He was laying down, his legs folded up, and his torso bent down onto the ground, pincers sprawled out.
And his snores... were loud buzzes, like someone was snoring into a kazoo. Summer looked at him and giggled.
>>
>>24056288
FALL ASLEEP ON SUMMER.

locking in the waifu aww yeah
>>
>>24056288

Set up camp around the sleeping centaur, hopefully to the point where we can get him good and warm without waking him up. Then bed for the night.
>>
>>24056288

"should... should we put a blanket over him?"
>>
>>24056288
Throw a blanket over him.

"how moving."

Who wants to help me set up a tent? You'll get to share it, of course.
>>
>>24056307
If sleeping on someone makes them our waifu, we already picked Cthulu from sleeping on Jilly's tail.
>>
>>24056343
A snakemonster is fine too.
>>
>>24056334
best do this.
>>
>>24056343
Honestly I don't see how any other waifu can compete with the one that has over seventy tongues.
>>
>>24056343

We've slept on and under Summer a lot more frequently and earlier than Jilly.

Personally, I'm rooting for Sarvesh. So I can have Summer for myself.
>>
>>24056280
>And then the credits started to roll. It ended on a cliffhanger?! Who does that?!

I swear to god, I saw that and immediately saw the greentext and thought it was
>End of thread!
just to troll the shit out of us.
>>
>>24056288
"If you manifest a blanket right on top of him, Summer, he'd look just like a tent!"
>>
>>24056343
I'm ok with this.
>>
>inb4, we wake up tied up with string, a bunch of tiny knights standing on us.

>>24056288
"We should mix up the sleeping arrangements from the station normal, Anna can enjoy the wonders of a fuzzy tiger blanket, Alex can get nagala hugs, and ill keep Damien up all night talking about pc6"
>>

Now you made Extrabutt regret not saving that for later.
>>
>>24056418
Goddamn sand-Lilliputians.
>>
>>24056382
>I was tempted, but decided against it.

"Should... should we put a blanket on him?" You ask.
"Probably." Summer said, and the two of you dragged a blanket over Sarvesh.
"Who wants to help me set up a tent?"
"I'll help!" Jilly said, flashing yellow. "I'm really good at setting up tents. Mostly because mom doesn't like hotels."

"We should mix up the sleeping arrangements from the station normal." You say, as you and Jilly put together your tent. "Anna can enjoy the wonders of a fuzzy tiger blanket, Alex can get nagala hugs, and I'll keep Damien up all night talking about PC6!"
"... Heather, I have bad news." Damien said, suddenly, his voice in a somber tone.
"Polycarbon six are breaking up. In two days, they'll release the news."
>>
>>24056288
Set up tent around Sarvesh. And sleep with there.
>>
>>24056460
"Ha ha ha. Good joke, asshole. You could be lying for all I know. You won't get a rise out of me."

"w-wha?"
>>

Jaw drop. Stutter incoherently, then glare. "You're messing with me, aren't you?"

"A little." He said, putting his fingers together, and chuckled.
"Why would you LIE like that, Damien? That isn't funny." You say. "Don't make me kill you in your sleep."
"Fine, fine." He said, and sighed. "Would it help if I slung you a song from their next album?"

No, because Polycarbon Six doesn't seem like the kind of band to have slow lull-to-sleep songs.

"Are you offering to sing me to sleep?" You ask. "I'd like that."
"I said slung, not sung." He said. "With telepathy, I can send you the song from the future." He said, and shrugged. "I'll just have to find it first."
"Yes! Yes!" You say, clasping your hands together.
"But I can sing, I guess. I'm not very good at it, though."

"Sing it to me, and then send it to me, so I can laugh at you afterwards." You say.
"Fine, fine, let me find it." He said, and sat down on the beach, closing his eyes. "When I'm looking for something, I actually have to seek it out..."

You sit down next to him and wait. Finally, his voice low, but getting progressively higher, Damien started to sing.

For a moment, your jaw dropped- He sounded *exactly* like Aku Namohara, the lead singer from the band. Your heart started to pound in that peculiar way it did, as he sang lyrics about machinery, vibrating engines, particle physics and pistons... It was almost as if the song had been written for you.

"And that was the one I think'll be your favorite." Damien said, after his song was over. "The rest of them were just generic pop music, but that one had better lyrics. One of the hidden tracks."
>>

Ya know.... between his voice sounding like the lead's, and the song being custom-made for us, I'm starting to wonder if our future-seer here isn't leading a double-life.
>>
>>24056861
If Damien turns out to be the lead singer of Polycarbon 6 in disguise, I think we can bring an end to any argument over who Heather ends up with.
>>
"Oh my god, how... can you?" You ask. "It was written for me! Do you think I'll get to meet them? Tell me!"
"How do you know you haven't already?" Damien asked. You eye him, and he looks.. kind of like...
Your heart dropped into your gut.
Then he chuckled. "No, no, I'm joking. Kat loves the band too. She's forced me to sing for her before." He said.

"... You realize I'm going to make you sing for me more, now, right?"
Damien sighed.
"I'll be able to send you the song in the morning." He said. "And then maybe you could use technopathy to write it to an audio file or something." He said, and shrugged. "Then you can just listen to that instead."

"Sing me to sleeeeeep, Damien." You say.
"... Nobody ever cares about my painting." Damien said, and zipped closed the tent, lying back. "It's always sing this, sing that." He said, and chuckled.
"You know girls like singing boys, right?"
"Why do you think I learned music? Really, though, I prefer playing piano," He said. Then he closed his eyes, and started to sing.

You wake up to the sound of a zipper. You could hear the sounds of the beach outside, and when you cracked open an eye, you saw Damien making his way out. You had both blankets, surprisingly- he must have covered you with his as well. Einstein chirped, signalling that he updated...

You yawn and stretch. "Einstein, queue tomorrow's tip with information relating to current spaceflight, both civilian and military."
"As you wish, Madam Leery."
"It's not fun when it's not random," You say, and sigh.

Outside, Sarvesh was still sleeping, his blanket lying on him, and Damien had his ankles in the ocean. The white sun was just starting to rise in front of him, with Fura and Ys not far from it, creating a strange triangle of two moons and the sun.

"Morning. I didn't mean to wake you," He said. "Though I knew I inevitably would."

"Hey, Damien." You say. "Thanks for taking care of me those past few days, when my brain decided to rebel. And, uh, sorry for making you worry."
"Eh, I'm an ass. I deserve it." He said.
You look out to the sea, and the tide slowly going out...
"I miss waking up to this sight." You say.
"Well, at least you got to see it this time. And hey, after school's done with, you could always come back here and get a job." He said.

You look back to the castle... and it was no bigger than when you first saw it. Looking near a collapsed area of the castle, you see why.

A sand brick had fallen, collapsing on the engineers. The knights were standing around them, too stupid to know what to do, and the princess was crying, handkerchief on hand.
>>
>>24057326

You go ahead and lift the brick- and the perfectly intact engineers spring to their feet, tugging the brick out of your hands, and spring off back to the castle, getting to work again. You reassure the princess with a pat on the shoulder, but she ignored you.

"Maybe." You tell Damien. "But I'll have my ship by then, and loads of cash still left over, so maybe retire early."
Then you shrug. "Whatever we do, though, we should all stay in touch."
"We should." Damien said, with a nod. Then he went silent... until, thankfully, Jilly burst out of the water.
"Murrning." She said... audibly. She was grinning up at you, pearly white teeth and blue lips grinning at you. Her mask was discarded. She... giggled, audibly, skin flashing bright yellow- lips green.
"... You look different." Damien said. "Did you change your hair?"
"... No." Jilly said, her voice strange and sluggish.
"Did you... change your clothing? Or wear a new type of makeup, maybe?"
Jilly frowned at him.

You giggle. "Do your taste buds work yet, Jilly?" you ask.
"Yep!" she said.
"Can you smell things? Could you before?"
She nodded.
<Nagala smelling is stronger than yours. But I can't smell underwater with my nose, either. So it's not very functional. It looks nice, though.> She said.

"Okay, let's wake up, then!" Summer said, and stretched. "Those castle guys are draining me, though, so I just demanifested them."

Anna got to her feet as well, stretching from side to side. The three of you made your way out of the tent as Summer demanifested it, to find... Jilly licking Sarvesh's abdomen.
"Hello." Sarvesh said.
"Heuou." Jilly said.
"Your transgenes are done!" Summer said, excited. "You're so cute now!"

Jilly gave Summer and Anna a wide grin, pulling away from the centaur.

She gave him another kiss on the cheek.
You turn to the sand-people, and see the grand castle, already starting to fall apart without constant maintenance. You quickly take a few pictures of it, and then put your omnitool away and turn to Jilly.

How does FTL work? alcubierre drive?
>>
>>24060072
Yes.
>>
>>24060072
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Similar in theory, similar in function, except no antimatter is required.

>Faster Than Light Travel: Soon after the First Contact with the Nagala, it was learned that they had recently developed a new technology - one that was mistakenly translated as the Bubble Drive. It's a simple two-part drive that forges (from hydrogen and carbon) and fires off similarly mistranslated 'Dark Particles' that directly manipulates space based on how it's charged. Properly set up, a bubble drive fires off positively charged particles forward that compress space, and negatively charged particles backward that expand it, creating a bubble of shaped space around the ship that sends it forward, significantly faster than light. The larger the bubble drive, the more particles that are fired off, the thicker or wider the compressed or expanded space is, and the faster the drive goes.

It's exorbitantly expensive to get enough Forgers to go anywhere fast, though, unless you have, say, ten million credits to spend.

No antimatter is required for an Alcubierre Drive.
>>
>>24060254

Huh. Then... um...

Long answer: Yes. Except it's not called an alcubierre drive because aliens made it.
>>
>>24060182
Hey Exabyte, how do computers work? Moore's law can't go on forever. Are they optical, quantum, what? Or are they just max permittted by physical law?
>>
>>24060286
They're the maximum permitted by physical law. They're optical and digital, for the most part. Quantum computers are rare and *incredibly* difficult to get right, and the slightest damage could destroy them. They hit the maximum limit a hundred years ago, and despite seeking for better ways to build computers, there have been no breakthroughs.

There are very subtle differences between the way our reality works and the way PsiQ's reality does. For example, relativistic speed isn't a 'Thing'.
Quantum-entangled communication is as good as it gets, reliably. Anything more complex ends up decaying rapidly, or simply not functioning as intended.

>>
>>24061029
No problem. You can find much more detailed explanations elsewhere but more or less it's that even though altering one will alter the other no matter the distance any information sent is complete junk data unless you know the state of the other particle so it's still restricted to the light speed barrier.
>>
>>24061023
FUCK YOU SIGMA.
Does that mean that Rho has demonstrated time-travel powers like Damien? They wouldn't write down time powers in their report if she didn't have them.
>>
>>24061081
..so then how do exa's quantum entangled router's work?

Don't answer that. Nope. Don't.
>>
>>24061081
You find a way to alter them one way (Designated as 0), then alter them back (Designated as 1). Then you send data in binary, with specific binary sets for "Start transmission" and "End transmission"
>>
>>24061138
i think that's probably one of the first things they tried
>>
>>24060975
Psychic powers don't care about the laws of physics. Rho combines space and time into spacetime, and then manipulates it, and then separates them again. Yup.
>>
>>24061138
Yes. Because they haven't tried that.

First, there is no way to tell if a particle is entangled without knowing the state of the particle it is entangled with. Second, with our current understanding, you can't control the alteration caused or cause them not to change as they will, thus you can't use it to send messages.

Research it dude, you'll get a far better explanation for why it doesn't work than I can give you.

>>24061132
They work on ExaLogic.
>>
>>24061173
Which should be really easy. You can use temperature, pressure, electro-magnetic fluxuations, ect. to denote the "settings"
All it would take is two machines that can both cause and detect the specific effect. Which is the difficult part, admittedly.
>>
>>24061218
I think for the purpose of the quest, quantum entaglement simply means that a pair of entangled routers are effectively two halves of the same computer, attached to other things at either end, and in different locations.
>>
>>24061319
It may be safest for the more technically minded of us' mental health to just accept exa's explanations
>>
>>24061330
Yeah, so long as we don't start dating Nissy or Asmodeius we should be fine.
>>
>>24061230
Do your research. Really, do it. Because if you're right that it should be 'really easy' you have half a dozen fucking Nobel Prizes waiting for you to collect them. Bell State correlations while you can transfer quantum information between them at superliminal speeds you are unable to transfer classical information with them. It's not a "oh we'll just make it spin this way and send information that way to the qubit on the other side".
>>
>>24061412
If you can artificially bind two particles together, and create/observe ANY effect on them, it can be used to send information as binary. If you get to the point that you can manipulate particles enough to bind them, you are able to observe, isolate, and affect them.
>>
>>24061412
i wish it was that easy that would be fucking cool
>>
>>24061461
>First, there is no way to tell if a particle is entangled without knowing the state of the particle it is entangled with.

>>

Observation. Entangling can work on things visible to the naked eye.
>>
>>24061319
>>24061132
Here's the thing about the nature of science fiction.
If the technology in it was possible enough to explain in a way that it would work, then we would *already have invented it*. Most of the time, at least. that's why I'm saying that PsiQ's setting is so subtly different from our reality, because it's one where classical information *can* be transferred through two bound particles, and one where molecules can be bound and seperated by specific-frequency sound waves, and one where there's a type of particle that bends the fabric of *space*.
>>
>>24061523
>molecules can be bound and seperated by specific-frequency sound waves
chemical bonds can be created and destroyed by specific-frequency sound waves
>>
>>24061461
Do your fucking research. How much do you actually know about Quantum Mechanics? I fully admit that I'm not an expert, my understanding isn't complete in the least, that you should research it yourself, and so on, you on the other hand are saying that something that people who spend their lives researching ought to be 'easy' and are saying things directly counter to their findings. Do you have a fucking PhD in your closet and a Nobel Prize waiting for you due to upturning the nature of Quantum Mechanics or are you just using your intuition and how you feel it should work to spout off instead of actually looking it up.
>>
>>24061552
Do you have knowledge of future scientific discoveries? Just because our current (Flawed) understanding doesn't allow for it, doesn't actually mean it's impossible. It means we can't do it until someone stumbles upon something that forces a rewrite of the laws of physics, which, historically speaking, happens quite often.
>>
>>24061552
Dude, not that anon, but calm your tits. It's Science-Fiction, not Science. It could work, so it does.
>>
>>24061610
I'm fine with the Sci-Fi stuff, I already said that these ones work on ExaLogic, I've been chatting about actual Quantum Entanglement and the misconceptions this guy seems to have about it.

>>24061601
It does happen, but you've obviously not done any real research on the subject by saying that it's easy, and all the rest of your comments have shown that you really don't know this subject in the least. Instead of just saying "if we can bind them we can easily isolate them and fuck with them to transfer classical information" why don't you go read up on the myriad hurdles for that. Learn about Quantum Spin, the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, the various No-Go theorems and so on, if you research it you'll find that all of your "clever" solutions to this have been tried and don't work.
>>
>>24061814
Don't work until a breakthrough that could happen sometime in the next 300 years. It could happen tomorrow even (Not likely, but possible). And "easy" is relative, as are all high-level physics.
>>
>>24061891
Have you actually done any research on this? An answer on this question would be appreciated.

Or are you just saying that your incoherent ramblings on a subject you don't understand might be right because physics sometimes learns new things and gets turned upside down?

Once again, do your fucking research on a subject like this before yammering about it. It'll keep you from looking like an idiot.
>>
>>24061999

>>24062050
I've already stated that I'm fine with ExaLogic, he happily admits that he can't into /sci/ and uses technology as a story element.

I'm annoyed at you, because you have no idea what you're talking about and try to say that stuff should be easy, or that it's actually possible or that you shouldn't bother actually researching these things and can say whatever the fuck you want about stuff you don't know about instead of researching a bit and seeing that the exact ideas you have that you think ought to allow for superliminal communication have been disproved.

>>
>>24062142
And you're saying it's not possible by relying on our current understanding. How do you KNOW that there's not really a way to make an observable effect? You don't. Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it can't. And because no one currently knows how to do it, no one can claim whether or not the theoretical effect causing phenomena is easy or difficult to produce.
>>

It is when someone is obviously ignorant of a subject they yammer about while they say it should be easy to do the impossible.

Stop trying to hide your ignorance of a subject behind "but we don't know it's actually impossible things might change". When you actually know nothing about a subject like you obviously do, you shouldn't go on about it like an idiot and claim that things people have tried, investigated, and determined not to work are perfectly possible and 'easy'.

You're an idiot.

You've admitted that you know nothing either. Wikipedia isn't reliable, you know.
>>
>>24062323
Impossible by... MODERN UNDERSTANDING. Modern understanding is not perfect. There could be a way to do it. It might even be easy.
>>
>>24062348
I've admitted that I'm not an expert. There's a clear difference between that and not knowing anything about a subject.

Read the last part of the post again until it clicks.

So because modern scientists can't do it, it cannot be possible (or easy) to do?
It wasn't possible to fly, either. Until someone did it. Now it's pretty easy to get something into the air and keep it there. The same thing could happen with quantum entanglement.
>>
>>24062430
Except those are two entirely different kettles of fish.
>>
>>24062430
I once again direct you to the latter part of >>24062323.

Actually research the subject before spouting off about it. Don't try to use "Modern Science doesn't know everything" as an excuse for presenting bullshit on a subject you know nothing about as possible or fact.
>>
>>24062458
Not really. Saying it's impossible just because we can't do it now just makes you look stupid when someone finally does it.
>>
>>24062487
I've looked at the wikipedia page, so I know just as much as you. And the last part of that is saying it can't be done by modern scientists. There's no actual proof that it can't be done at all. Just that all attempts have been failures so far.
>>
>>24062430
I know, right? I build jet fighters in my back yard all the time. Time travel is easy as well, it's just most plebs don't know how to do it. That stupid 'current understanding of physics' fucker better watch out when I fire a couple of missiles into his house three hours ago.
>>
>>24062527
I build paper airplanes and model kits that fly all the time. Those model kits would have absolutely floored anyone from before the Wright brother's time. It'd probably floor them too, actually.
>>
>>24062525
If you knew as much as me you wouldn't be spouting off bullshit like this or defending your ignorance of a subject by saying that it might be possible in the future.
>>
>>24062575
And you wouldn't be shouting that it can't be done because it hasn't been done so far.
>>
>>24062586
I am not that guy, but, some things are impossible. Moving faster than the speed of light, for instance.
>>
>>24062616
Tell that to NASA.

>The origin of folded paper gliders is generally considered to be of Ancient China, although there is equal evidence that the refinement and development of folded gliders took place in equal measure in Japan. Certainly, manufacture of paper on a widespread scale took place in China 500 BCE, and origami and paper folding became popular within a century of this period, approximately 460-390 BCE.

>For over a thousand years after this, paper aircraft were the dominant man-made heavier-than-air craft whose principles could be readily appreciated, though thanks to their high drag coefficients, not of an exceptional performance when gliding over long distances. The pioneers of powered flight have all studied paper model aircraft in order to design larger machines. Da Vinci wrote of the building of a model plane out of parchment, and of testing some of his early ornithopter, an aircraft that flies by flapping wings, and parachute designs using paper models. Thereafter, Sir George Cayley explored the performance of paper gliders in the late 19th century. Other pioneers, such as Clément Ader, Prof. Charles Langley, and Alberto Santos-Dumont often tested ideas with paper as well as balsa models to confirm (in scale) their theories before putting them into practice. The most significant use of paper models in aircraft designs were by the Wright brothers between 1899 and 1903.

Yeah, the Wright Brothers would be real impressed by your paper plane.

>I can quote wikipedia!
Congratulations. The point still stands that it was fucking impossible to get a human into the air despite how many attempts were made. And then someone figured it out, and now it's easy enough that there are commercial enterprises that onyl do that, and every military that's even close to modern has flying machines that easily surpass the speed of sound.
>>
>>24062627
That is not moving faster than light. That is moving the space you occupy.
>>
>>24062686
And yet this changes nothing about the fact that "But Science Might Change" is not a proper excuse for spouting ignorant bullshit about a subject you don't know anything about.
>>
>>24062686
Yes. And they do it with complex mathematics and engineering to get around the problem, and not by "oh, just don't hit the ground, it's easy", which is the sort of thing you were saying.
>>
>>24062717
Same result. You get there before the light representing the event of your departure does.
>>
>>24062736
Yes, it's the same result, but entirely different principles. You are not travelling faster than the speed of light.
