>Einstein hovered behind you, and you knew you could check his data at any time: http://pastebin.com/CaAF0yS8

Your name is Heather, and you're in a place that technically doesn't exist.
You were sitting at an endless beach, the sand stretching on both sides of you, the yellow sun shining brightly overhead. You had dinner in front of you, complete with a picnic blanket, and Omnissiah was splashing in the water with his new drone body, testing to see how the ion thrusters worked underwater.
Slowly, you started to eat- until something tapped you on the shoulder. You turn back, and Summer's manifestation was there in a bright yellow and red bikini.
"Figured I should bring an avatar here so that you can talk." Summer said, taking a seat and stealing some of your food. She turned over to Omnissiah and giggled as the drone tried (and failed) to swim, his manipulators not getting enough traction in the water to propel him forward. "I'm getting a lot better at this place, now that I'm practicing it a bunch."

"That's great! Is it draining you a lot?"

"glad to hear it"

"Omni, before we go to the beach again remind me to build an amphibious shell for you!"
>>
Summer will be the hard headed, never give up, always training to compensate for "the lack of talent" or whatever is applicable character
>>
>>24147988
"Careful you don't short circuit, Niss!"
>>
>>24148074
But his current shell can work in water, it just can't, you know, swim.
>>
>>24148088
It's waterproof, silly
>>
"That's great!" You say. "Is it draining you a lot?"
"Once it's created, it doesn't drain me much." She said, and reclined on the sand, lying back.
"Glad to hear it." you say, and call out to the robot in the water. "Omni, before we go to the beach again, remind me to build an amphibious shell for you!"
"There is no need. I have my ion thrusters. I was simply seeing if I could."
The manipulators whirred, and he splashed out of the water, boosting himself toward you again, wiping down his eyes. He hovered over Summer, and the drips vanished before they hit her at all- and that's when you notice that Omnissiah wasn't casting a shadow. Looking down at your own shadow, you can't find it. Apparently the light just *looks* like it's coming from the sun, when in truth it's a uniform.
>>
>>24148119
"Summer, is it supposed to not make shadows?"
Also, let's try scritching her ears now, because we haven't tried it before.
>>
>>24148119

never thought I would be without a shadow.

its a strange feeling.
>>
>>24148119
"This place is pretty weird!"

"Hey, Summer, have you tried making an object that functions here but not in the real world, then bring it back with you?"
>>
"Never thought I would be without a shadow." You say, looking down beneath you. "It's a strange feeling."

As you said that, the shadow faded into view.
"What do you mean?" Summer asked, looking down at your shadow.
"This place is pretty weird." You say.
"Well, sorry that my own mentally-created pocket dimension has differing laws of physics than the reality you're used to." Summer said, and stuck out her tongue.
"Hey, Summer, have you tried making an object that functions here, but not in the real world, then bring it back with you?"
"No, I haven't." She said. "I could try, I guess. I haven't done anything lately, so I won't be *too* tired. Also, I just stole some of Damien's ice cream for you."
>>
"I love you"

Hug her.
>>
>>24148250
"Haha, thank you."

"You could try something simple to start, maybe a wooden stick that lets out a tiny little laser beam when held?"
>>
>>24148250
"Hooray!"

Also, I just remembered that we were going to get a taste sensor for Omni, so we should do that soonish.
>>
>>24148250

"that will show him."

>not sure if she's tried it yet or if we've asked but what would happen if she took an object from real space in to the pocket dimension and then turning the pocket off?
>>
>>24148250
"and every thing went better than expected "

"you know with the low energy cost of making things in this place, its sorta like a mental art studio in her you could make more and more complex things until you made it just how you want it to function and try all ideas with out much worry of energy cost. "
>>
"Hooray!" You say. "You could try something simple to start. Maybe a wooden stick that lets out a tiny little laser beam when held?"
"... Like a magic wand!" She said, and as soon as she did, a carved, polished stick appeared. "Give it a wave."

You pick up the wand, and wave toward an empty spot in the sand, and the sand started to lift, levitating into a sphere, coiling around itself.
"Huh." She said. "That feels funny. Like you're... changing my dimension for me. It's funny when someone else does it."
>>
>>24148333

wiggle it at a rock next.
>>
Well, if your god in this place then it makes sense you can bestow powers to change things as well.
>>
>>24148333
"Woo! You've given me the power to manipulate."
>>
"Woo! You've given me the power to manipulate."
"It's not really in you, it's more in the wand." She said.
You wiggle the wand at the rock next, and there was a crack of thunder, splitting the rock into two charred halves.

You dropped the wand in surprise, and Omnissiah reached for it.
He gave the wand a flick- and the full, half-crescent silver ship appeared, some distance away from the sand.
"It seems I can use this." Omnissiah said, looking over to the large spacecraft. "Interesting. If I had the data on your designed spacecraft, we could likely use this place to simulate flying it."
>>
>>24148333
"like it drains you"?
wave the wand to make a sand space ship like the one we plan on building, have it fly past Omni

"yea you made me a reality editing tool sweet I am sure the researchers will love this. "

"I have the power!"
Time for more terrible singing.
>>
>>24148391

can we summer? if it's not to much trouble of course.
>>
>>24148391
"This is pretty much the perfect training ground."
>>
"Can we, summer?" You ask. "If it's not too much trouble, of course."
"Sure!" She said, grinning. "Just let me focus..."

Your ears popped, and the atmosphere changed slightly.
"There!" She said. "Now this place is an entire solar system! With only one planet, and one sun, an asteroid belt, and the rest is all empty void, but it still works!" She said.
"This is pretty much the perfect training ground.
Omnissiah flicked the wand again, and the ship you designed appeared- a large, squat ship, with ion thrusters sticking out of the sides, and shutters for the maintenance drones.
You couldn't help but widen your eyes at the sight.
"I remembered what you showed me." Omnissiah said. "So I simulated it here. If I think of this world as a partitioned, simulated reality, then it's much easier for me to conceptualize. It seems this 'magic wand' takes my intentions and produces the affect."

Then it's head tilted.
"What color do you want it?"
>>
>>24148493
Candy apple red.
>>
>>24148493
"You know what, Niss? You pick the colours that are most visually pleasing to your sensors."

>>
>>24148547
na lets blow up some real asteroids.
>>
"Candy apple red! And maybe a bit of yellow." You say, and with another flick, the ship became bright, bright red. Summer goggled at it, and grinned.
"Come on in, Heather."

You made your way into the ship, looking around at the fully stocked kitchenette, past the bedding area, and into the cockpit.
There was one thing that wasn't in the design, and it was a mount designed for Omnissiah to fit into. He gave you a look that your mind translated as 'sheepish', before hovering into it, locking himself in. The computers flicked on, and the engine started up, making the entire thing thrum.
Summer strapped herself into one of the chairs. "Let's see if you can make your way out of the atmosphere!" She said. "Don't worry about crashing, I have things set up so we'll all be fine."
>>
>>24148590
"Go on, Omni. Take off!"
>>
>>24148590

"I guess we'll have to fit that mount on the completed project, you're more than welcome to join me on my ship!" with a smile.
>>
>>24148590
Let's try saying hi in Technopathy
>>
>>24148590
Do a systems check and go through the launch checklist. (But skip most of the steps.)
>>
>>24148590
"blast off" also "hey send me the plans on how to make that" (point to the mount designed for Omnissiah)
>>
"I guess we'll have to fit that mount on the completed project." You say, and sit yourself in the pilot's seat, strapping yourself in. "You're more than welcome to join me on my ship!" You say, and give the drone a smile.

"Systems check." You look through the readouts. Everything looked good.
"Alright." You say again. "Blast off."

Wheeling the ion thrusters on the port and starboard of your ship until they pointed straight down, you slammed on the thrust, soaring upward, and you slowly leaned the thrusters slightly backward.

And off you blasted, your cherry red ship sparking out of the atmosphere. The life support systems hissed loudly as they initialized, switching from external air into internal systems.

And then, being jerked in your seat, you reach for the wrong lever, and pull, intending to orient your entire ship upwards.

Instead, you went spinning, your reaction control system too powerful for the ship. You went spinning, wildly, jerked forward against your straps. You turned off your primary thrusters, toning down the attitude control and reoriented yourself. Then you slam your heat shield up to increase your drag, reorient your thrusters backward and downward, and slam them up as far as they could go. You were jerked back in your seat again, as your orbit slowly, but surely, circled around the planet. As you made your way out of the atmosphere, your eyes widen.
There were no stars anywhere, save the single sun that the planet circled around.
>>
>>24148809
"This...this is like video games, to the next level, Summer."

"Make some stuff for me to blow up!"
>>
>>24148809

"control systems need a little work/getting used to"

"this is quite beautiful, but it seems so empty without stars."
>>
>>24148809
Push it to the max. We must find the flaws in summer's physics. For science.
>>
>>24148809
"Whoa."
>>
"Control systems need a little getting used to." You say, pushing forward and adjusting your orbit. From here, you could see that the entire world was a massive beach, the northern hemisphere all beach, and the southern hemisphere all ocean, completely uniform.
"This is quite beautiful." You say. "But it seems so empty without stars."
"I can fix that." Summer said. "Turn so we're looking straight away from the planet."
You turn, and then the ship looked straight into the depths of the darkness.
Summer got out of her seat, walked up to the glass... and tapped it.
"Bang." She said, and a small bead of something white was on the glass.
No, no... it was in the distance.

And then the small white bit exploded into light and nebula, time-accelerated mass whirling into suns, solar systems, planets and constellations. An entire universe appeared before your eyes.
"Whoa." You say.
"... That's what love feels like." Omnissiah said, after a moment.

"It's.... beautiful." You say, and tear up.
"It is, isn't it!" Summer said, grinning and turning back to you. When she saw your expression, she frowned. "What? What's wrong?"
"Something from nothing." You say, sniffling, eyes wide.
"Everything from nothing." Omnissiah said.
"It's beautiful." You say.

Summer sighed, unstrapped your chair, and pulled you into a hug.

You take a deep breath, recovering your composure as best you could with nebula still spinning in the background.
"What, you want to be a god or something?" You ask.
"I want to be good enough to fix my mistakes, and to never make a mistake again." Summer said, quietly. "If becoming a god is what I need to do, I will. It's as simple as that."

You gasp. "Food! Is that what I was supposed to be doing? I got sidetracked by the big bang."
Summer focused, and suddenly you had gravity, and the food you'd brought into this reality was sitting there.
"Let's go into the kitchenette place to eat." Summer said, and the three of you made your way out of the cockpit.

"So is this what you wanted, Omnissiah?" Summer asked, while you ate.
"I got significantly more than I wanted." Omnissiah said, and hugged the manifestation. "Thank you, Summer."
"D'aww, it's no problem." The girl said, giggling.

"Should we go back to the cafeteria now?" You ask, finishing up your food and taking your pill.
"Sure, probably." Summer said.
"Hey, let's remember to take the wand with us when we leave, see if it can work outside of here."
"I almost forgot about that!" Summer said, and handed you the wand. "Hold on tightly."

You hang tightly onto it, and then suddenly you were in the cafeteria, Omnissiah floating next to you.
"Welcome back." Damien said. He was pouting, and there was... a giant paw-shaped print in his bowl of ice cream. Summer's real body grinned at you, licking at her ice-cream-covered paw and whiskers.

You wave your wand at the bowl of ice cream, and Summer twitched, as more ice cream manifested itself. Damien grinned, and reached forward with a spoon.
"Hey!" Summer said. "You... how... You *forced* me to manifest that!"
She demanifested the additional ice cream.
"How did you do that? Did you get in my head?"

"Sure," You say, and hand it back. "Looks like you'll have to be careful about what you manifest. I didn't even realize it would do that."
You hand it to her, and she snapped it in half. A spark zapped from it, and then the magic wand vanished.
"Guess now we know what happens when I make something impossible." She said. "The impossible things use my psionics to do it. If I'd made a teleporter, or something I'm not specialized in it, maybe it would have killed me."

Then she stopped the wyvern, and you were jerked forward in your seat.
"Now, get your suit on. Let's go destroy things."

Outside of the ship, hovering in place, was a tall, statuesque exosuit. While most were bulky and heavily armored, this one had minor plating on the arms and legs, while the torso was almost... skintight, with three fission cores in the back. Cables in the back of the helmet flew freely, almost dangling outward like hair, and ion thrusters held her in place. In her hands was a massive shotgun, with a barrel large enough to drop a softball down, all sorts of cables plugged into the chamber where the bullet sat.

"Are you ready?" Anna asked over the radio.

"Hell yeah!" You say. "Bring it on!"
"Right!" Anna said, and you could hear the grin on her face. She pumped the cannon, which made LEDs light up along the barrels, as a loud noise radiated from it. You saw the cannon start to tremble.

And the cannon started reciting something in a language you didn't know. Ranting about the power of the sun purging the unmighty, of LORD PELOR defeating the foes, burning the heretics and demiurg and demons into nothingniess with the CLENSING LIGHT

And Anna's grin grew. She pumped it again, and there was a beep from the gun's radio. She pulled the trigger...

And you saw.

It was a giant fusion slingshot. White hot plasma slammed out of the barrel as heavy elements broke down into radiation and incredible, incredible heat. The globule slammed into the asteroid, melting a hole through it.

<SOL INVICTUS.> The gun roared, exultantly.

"Promise you'll be careful."
"I'll be careful!" You say. "Triple promise!"

"Alright, come over here." She said, and you soar toward her. She put it in your hands.
"First things first. Cradle it in your offhand like this, and put your primary hand here... and then you just... flip off the safety here... and pump it."
You pump it, and the weapon made a loud 'chchk' noise through your suit. You shivered involuntarily, and then the weapon started to buzz, ranting in the back of your mind.
"Don't worry, that's the capacitors charging." She said. "Wait until it stops increasing... and then pump it again. Right after you pump it, you need to wait until it starts shaking, and pull the trigger."
You nod... and then pump the cannon again. It started shaking badly, and it was all you could do to keep it pointed toward the asteroid- then you pulled the trigger.

The enormous globule blasted out, your suit beeping a radiation alert for a short time, and then it slammed into the asteroid, fusion plasma blasting against the asteroid and melting, crushing, and fusing with it all at the same time.

"I'm okay with maintenance." She said, stowing the cannon under Wyvern's control panel. Both of you peeled off your suits, strapped yourselves in, and the wyvern docked at the station again.

>>
>>24151923
Okay, what if.

What if we did this.

Except instead of ejecting the heatsinks, or letting them call down, have a second barrel that fires the superheated crystals, and then cycles in new crystals.

"A huge fuckoff laser." You say. "Something so big it needs TK to hold properly. We can use the crystals as heatsinks, right?"
"If you use it as a heatsink, you'll need to remove it without melting your gun." She said. "And... well, I don't know how to make a fusion gun. It cost me a lot to get that one made."
"A huge fuck-off laser." You say, suddenly. "It needs a huge power supply."
"We'd need to cool that down somehow."
"The crystals? Then we can have a second barrel that fires the superheated crystals, then cycles in new crystals."

"Well what other component can it be besi-wait I have an idea." Get the crystal, set it down on the table. "Before we do anything, lets see how the crystal disperses heat. Anna, could you heat it up for me?"

We could either create more ourself by shooting them at stuff or get her to try making one. I really think we should just make them ourself when we have the time though. Fly our ship out and clean up some stray asteroids in the middle of nowhere. Might even see Mr. Devourer floating by.
>>
You know, one of the things the VQ had trouble with if I recall was hyperdense minerals. We may want to hang on to that thing just in case.
>>
>>24152054
It DID give off electricity, and radiation too. So maybe if we find a way to direct that we can make a lightning gun?
>>
"Well, what other component can it be besi... wait. I have an idea." You say. "Before we do anything, let's see how the crystal disperses heat. Anna, could you heat it up for me?"
"Sure." She said, and focused. The crystal got hotter inside of its canister, the temperature rising... and it didn't let go of the heat in any way. The air away from the crystal stayed as cool as normal.
And then Anna pushed it just a little hotter, and a wave of heat hit you, emanating from the crystal as it let go of everything, returning to room temperature
"What." Anna said, eyebrows raised.
>>
>>24152128

Or maybe we should just make it a heat ray... or what if we used the heat from the crystal to power a turbine, meaning it was a power source AND a heatsink!"
>>
>>24152163

>>
>>24152163

>>
"Cool!" You say. "Do it again!"

She focused, and it got hotter, heat building up, and then quite suddenly it let go of the heat.
"Huh." Anna said. "I wonder what it does in a vacuum."

"Anna, Anna, hey Anna." You say. "I have an idea. What if... okay, what if we made the crystal a heatsink, but we made it in such a way that when it gave off heat like that, it was all directed at a target, so it can be a normal gun *and* a heat ray. Or maybe we could use the heat from the crystal to power a turbine, meaning it was a power source *and* a heatsink."

"Aren't turbines really large and inefficient?" Anna asked. "And I have no idea how you'd redirect the heat. Stuff it full of coolant and just blow the heated coolant out with ion thrusters?"
>>
>>24152277
"Noo, it'd be simple! Just find a material that doesn't conduct heat! There are a ton of them, they're called insulators! They're mostly polycarbon materials, but I'm sure we can find one that would work. Oh! I know! We can use aerogel! Create an aerogel tube to direct the heat the way we want."
>>
>>24152344
This sounds like a pretty good idea, actually.
>>
>>24152344
But an insulator wouldn't project and amplify the heat! You'd need some kind of a heat mirror. BUT before that, let's test this in a vacuum. 20 bucks says the heat blast isn't convection.
>>
>>24152344
But then we'll just have some hot air slowly pushing out the front. We need some way to amplify and direct the head even more.

We could have it shoot superheated ionized Phaeron gas, maybe have it make an electric charge between point A and point B, the gun and the Target, like a bolt of lightning, and then the Gas will follow the lightning and melt whatever is there.
>>
>>24152277
"Idea! It uses metal-based coolant, which is then propelled by magnetics! Gauss gun!"
According to my vague understanding of metalurgy Tetraamminelithium is both highly conductive and effected by magnets.
>>
>>24152401
You're right, we do need to test it in vacuum because if it's not convection this whole idea is fucked, however any insulator will serve to mirror heat, since an insulator is just something that does not conduct heat. It would all be about the way we designed and shaped the insulating material.

>>24152446
This dude is right though, we need some way to accelerate the heat. Heat is just the movement of atoms, so maybe if we created some kind of microwave-type situation?
>>
"Let's test this in a vacuum." You say.
"Alright!" Anna said, and the two of you set up a pump to pull all of the air out of the crystal. Once that was done, Anna focused, and it started heating up more. And more.
And once it hit the point where it would normally let go of the heat... it didn't. The temperature just rose and rose.
>>
Use TK to make a bubble of vacuum around the crystal.
>>
>>24152277
It's too hard, Anna! I need a hug and 30 minutes in an iso chamber!

So it IS just conducting the heat into the air around it. Perfect! It won't work in vacuum though, unless we find a way to create artificial atmosphere around the crystal.
>>
>>24152515
Nothing in space for the heat to transfer to.
>>
>>24152515
Looks like I owe you 20. Now, let's get a safe distance and PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT!

Meanwhile, use TK grab a small asteroid or something to bump it into if we can't find the limit.
>>
>>24152515
So we put it in a vacuum chamber, then hit it with gas from one direction, and it vents everything that way and boom?
>>
>>24152515
"Well this is interesting. It operates on convection but it releases it very quickly.

Okay, heat it up a bit more then bring the atmosphere back into it, I want to see how fast it releases the current heat.

We can supercharge it by putting it in a vacuum and make the end result a lot hotter."
>>
>>24152582
>>24152574
This is perfect. Get a canister of pressurized gas, attach it to the gun, hook it up by insulated wire to the artificial vacuum chamber where the crystal is held. We'll need to rig sensors to it so we can tell how hot it's getting.
>>
>>24152582
Make sure to use all reasonable caution with this. No point losing our eyebrows over this.
>>
>>24152582
geart idea, nothing can go wrong with sudden thermal discharges(what does a plasma cannon do again?).
>>
>>24152639
If we get it hot enough it will turn the gas to plasma. So basically we're making a plasma rifle.
>>
>>24152549
It could still release it as a burst of thermal radiation, if that was the method it was using. But it seems it is using conduction.

Phaeron gas would be perfect for it, too.

"Well, this is interesting." You say. "It operates on convection, but it releases very quickly. Let's get to a safe distance and push it to the limit." You say.
"Alright. To the limit." Anna said.
She closed her eyes, and focused.
Electricity danced between her knuckles, and you felt small eddies of telekinesis moving about her, making one of the spare bolts on the ground roll toward her, and then away, and then toward her...

And the crystal kept getting hotter. And hotter.

Through the sensors, you saw... the crystal itself was starting to vibrate in its holder.

At four thousand degrees celsius, Anna sighed, and relaxed her grip.
"That's as... as high as I can push it." She said.

Holy crackers this thing is literally incapable of radiating heat. Let's call the science guys out and show them this mickey-mouse bullshit.

"Fuck, let's get some of the councilors here. They're scientists right, maybe they'd have an idea how we can weaponise this thing?"

<KEEEEN~~!!! I need you're brain~>

"... Maybe this wasn't such a great idea." You say.
Anna took an exhausted gasp. She was entirely wiped out.
"It'll probably explode if atmosphere touches it." You say.
"Yeah, it will." She said. "I put too much in. Give me... give me a second."

You give Anna a look. She stumbled onto the table, and reached her hand out toward the canister. "Should I... Should I cool it, or just leave it be? Or are we going to... idunno, take it into space to spray gas at it?"

Then you notice that her nose was bleeding badly, dark red blood dripping down her lips.
>>
We're getting you some food and first aid. The crystal can wait.
>>
>>24152898
It's nap time for you sweetheart.

Oh fucking shit get her to the nurse, quickly! Snatch her up and run! "Einstein! Send a message to the nurse that Anna overexerted herself! Send a message to Max that there is a science bomb in my workshop!"

"Nonononono, don't do anything else, you're bleeding. I don't want you to go and collapse like I did."

"Whoa. Leave it be, we need to get you in bed with a snack to go with it. You're looking too much like I do after doing silly things."

"Anna, don't do anything! Your nose is bleeding!" You say.
"That only happens in silly cartoons." She says, her eyes refusing to focus. "I won't bleed from staring. If I pull the heat out, I won't be so tired."
"Leave it be." You say. "It's nap time for you, sweetheart."
"Okay." She said in a small voice, and closed her eyes, slumping entirely. You scooped her up in your arms, running down the hall to the infirmary. You were struck, as you usually were, at how small she was. She was only slightly heavier than Rho, though her presence somehow added a hundred pounds and two feet to her.
You turn on your omnitool with technopathy, and urge one of the maintenance drones to take the canister to an airlock, while you message the nurse.

Kailynn was there by the time you got there, a sleeping Anna in your arms.
"Help me clean her up." Kailynn said, all business. "She'll be okay. Stop worrying. Sit down. Over there. "

By the time things were done, Anna was lying in bed, her face clean and nose no longer bleeding, an IV stuck into her arm.
"The sensors say there's been no permanent damage." The doctor said, sitting down next to you.

This was our fault.

the drone could bump into something, this is still a danger as the canister is still in the station
>>
Yes, cry on her bed and stuff.
>>
"I didn't mean for her to do this! She got carried away. I'm sorry!"
"You don't need to apologize. At all." Kailynn said, patting your head. "Don't worry. Everything will be okay. I promise. How about this?"
She got up, went to one of the shelves, and pulled out a paper book- one with a cliche 'knight on horse' next to a robed man on the cover- and handed it to you.
"You can sit down next to her bed, hold her hand. Would that make you feel better?"
You nod. You were starting to tear up.
"Okay. I'll get you some extra food, and I'll get some for her, too, when she wakes up." She said, and patted your head again.

She left the room, and you scooted your seat next to the bed, holding Anna's hand.
The drone shot away from the station, making sure it was easily far enough away that if it were to explode, it wouldn't even affect the station.

Then you close your eyes, put Anna's hand in your lap, and start to read.

>End of thread!
>>
>>24153318
I'd like to think the canister isn't made out of sugar glass.
>>
>>24153341
Oh man we need to figure out a way to turn that thing into a heat-beam. That would pretty much be the greatest shit ever.
>>
>>24153341
We can read with our eyes closed?
>>
Okay, wait by her bedside. In the meantime:

What if we heated it up to say, 3000 degrees, installed directional aerogel heat mirrors around it, and then suddenly flooded the chamber with say, nitrogen, as a firing mechanism? Gas gets superheated, but the pumps keep going, pushing the now superheated gas out of the nozzle.

It'd be a flamethrower, except the flame would be as hot as the surface of the sun.
>>
>>24153416
We're doing some clairvoyance training, obvs.
>>
>>24153375
It'd make a hilariously strong "fuck you, your ship, and your base on the moon" weapon if we just strapped it to an armor piercing rocket and had it open up inside the artificial atmo.
>>
>>24153341
Sheeeeit this is almost perfect for a plasma launcher.

Okay, so, what we do is put it inside a vacuum chamber, linked to something to heat it up. Then, we have gas injectors push either hydrogen or phaeron gas in, which gets shot out the barrel with magnets and shit.
>>
>>24153433
We could, concievably, rig it up to a baby power generator. If it continues to generate waste heat into the crystals instead of, say, a turbine, we'd have a collection of baby nukes.
>>
>>24153597
Whats the deal with phaeron gas again?
>>
>>24153731
or baby suns if we keep it going
>>
>>24153760
It's got hella-kinetic energy when accelerated by magnets for some reason. So it'd be like a plasma gun, but with possibly faster than bullet speed.
>>
>>24153768
So it's a choice between the world's funniest flamethrower (although when it runs out of fuel we'd be in serious trouble. I suppose you could stick it in a chamber which puts waste heat back into storage or something, and then pumps it back through the chamber.

Otherwise we just buy the generator and give our ship a collection of baby nukes. Crystals in a vacuum chamber surrounded by a thin shell of oxygen so they can WORK in vacuum..
>>
>>24153843
how is it a choice we can do both we just need to make more Crystals.
>>
>>24153797
Oh, then absolutely yes.

Would negate the need for pumps, which fail easily. We can just use magnets to vacuumise the Heatherite chamber, and then use a different set of magnets to flood it again and propel the gas.

Though that does bring another point to mind. The chamber itself, as well as whatever is holding the crystal up, would need to be made of carbon nanotubes or something, because that level of heat is going to be eating through even titanium. This would only work up to about 3500C, though. After that, even carbon nanotubes would warp and start to melt.

If those issues can be worked out though, it'd pretty much be the most lethal close range weapon ever built. No armour or shield would really be able to stop it, and if you used it inside a ship you would very quickly find yourself in the vacuum of space, because it would just eat through the goddamn walls.

I'm thinking 2000C is a more reasonable temperature to operate it on.
>>
>>24153951
Assuming they are building spaceships out of titanium, it'd still melt the walls and you would end up spacing yourself.

Too much dakka.
>>
>>24153951
polycarb man polycarb
>>
>>24153951
If we used an electrical system to heat the crystal, too, we could precisely control the exact amount of power going into the crystal.
>>
>>24153341
Fuck, man, I still want to build a laser out of the crystal. I thought it'd be perfect for a solid-state laser.
>>
>>24154000
Attaching *anything* to the crystal, except the material the chamber is built from, is a bad idea unless it is a perfect insulator, which wouldn't be able to heat the crystal anyway.

I say use a laser.
>>
why weaponize the crystal when we can make a computer processor out of it?
>>
>>24153995
What is the melting point of the polycarbon we are using for ships and such, then?
>>
If Aerogel is still the best insulator known to exist, then we need to keep the temperature under 1,200 °C.
>>
>>24154042
Its the hardest mettle know to man. its science space future magic materiel.
>>
>>24154039
we must find out the crystals electrical resistance
>>
>>24154042
The melting point of carbon is around 3,600. It doesn't truly melt at that point, it's simply softened enough that the fullerene slips out of 'alignment', so to speak.
>>
>>24154303
so bring the crystal up to 3590 and have some coolant around the thing and we good
>>
>>24154303
How much did the thing weigh, by the way? And what color was it?"
>>
>>24154745
Thing being the crystal.
>>
>>24154303
Does phaeron in a plasma state still respond to magnets the gay it does in a gaseous state?
>>
>>24154957
It would probably become easier to accelerate with magnets, if anything.
>>
>>24154745
The crystal was small- two or three inches long from point to point, and it was heavy as hell, maybe ten pounds or so. It's also either white or black- I haven't decided yet.

>>24154957
Phaeron *only* responds to magnets the way it does when it's in a plasma state. It hardly responds when it's in a gaseous state.
>>
>>24155022
Is it smooth enough to stick up someone's butt without issue?
>>
>>24155022
Excellent. So if we set it up right we can have the magnets accelerate the superheated Plasma out towards what we want gone, and don't have to worry about sending out things that aren't Plasma.
>>
>>24155022
>heavy as hell, maybe ten pounds or so

>>
>>24155253
This shit would be fuckin awesome on our ship. They'd be like functional plasma beams.
>>
>>24155253
Why even have a secondary chamber? Why not pump it straight from the backpack into the crystal chamber?

It's a huge part of the weapon, but it doesn't do anything except take up space.
>>
>>24155517
Limited in-flow rates for the gas I'd imagine. The secondary chamber lets you pressurize the gas and dump it all on the crystal at once.
>>
>>24155609
I guess, but it seems to me that with a sufficiently powerful pump it wouldn't be needed. It'd probably be so heavy that TK is required to carry it, so why not just go all the way and install a pump with enough power?
>>
>>24155609
Given how the crystal works, a pulse laser seems best, and the extra chamber would help with that.
