Happy Tuesday /tg/! I hope you're all feeling good tonight! Without further ado, shall we get started with today's Civilization Quest?

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)
>>
>>24149945
E) Lets keep going with our stone masonry research.
G) Keep constructing the Forge Works, lets try and finish it.
I) Have the wise ones examine the rocks left behind in the forge, ration it out for later experimentation and see what they can figure out.
>>
>>24149945
I) The time had come to build the apiary.
E)Masonry again.
G)We should finish the Forge Works.
>>
Also, we know we have tin now (even if the tribe doesn't). We're gonna have a lead for finding a tin mine. This will be fantastic.
>>
>>24149997
This, as much as I want to use tin I have waited for bees for far to long.
>>
>>24149997
Ok, forget mine, I like bees.
>>

>>

Depends how weird they are.

Inb4 they are pokemon and we miss our one chance.
>>
>>24150166

They're making Bronze with magic.
>>
Do we even know that there are bees in the forest?
>>
>>24149997
I will go for this.

Oh Hrunti
>>
>>24150207
We discovered hives some 50 threads ago.
>>
>>24150207
About 50 threads ago we found some beehives we never got around to investigate.
>>
>>24150215
Next turn, I say we abandon working on stone masonry. For now. If I read it right, working on the special forge will give us a better understanding of building a stone wall and speed up our research into that area and as it stands we're moving doubly slow trying to do both at once.

Last thread, Britfag gave a hint. At least I think it's a hint that such would be the case, but I'll let you decide.

> The design of the abandoned forge gives them several pointers for their own construction and forgotten in a corner
>>
>>24150291
Shift to investigating that tin instead?
>>
>>24150319
Sounds reasonable. We could also try and practice our masonry... Would that also help?
>>
>>24150345
... Not that we are already doing that by building forges...
>>
>>24150356
When the forge works are done we can experiment with the tin we have.
>>
>>24150319
I'm the one that made the option and I'm okay with changing our research from masonry to these strange new rocks.
>>
>>24150319
>>24150378

We probably don't have much of the tin left over in his hut to really carry on with experimentation, but we could send out scouts in search of more now that we have a basic idea of what it looks like.

Because that's a hell of a lot more than we've ever had to go on before. Heck, we could even go around asking out tribesmen if they've ever seen anything similar in all of their trips into the woods and surrounding areas.

Seems a reasonable thing to do, I believe.
>>
>>24150497
>Heck, we could even go around asking out tribesmen if they've ever seen anything similar in all of their trips into the woods and surrounding areas.

This probably wouldn't cost us a point, so I suggest we throw it in with the next set of options.
>>
>>24150497
That's why we should save some for identification later, while the rest should be used by our best smith for experimentation.
>>
>>24150497
Very good point. Let's do this next turn.
>>
>>24150497
Agreed.
>>
>>24149997
While the wisemen of the tribe continue to apply themselves to trying to figure out the secret to stone construction, some enterprising young souls take it upon themselves to go hunting for a new source of food. Having observed bears breaking open bee hives to feast on the honeycomb within, they think to fashion artificial beehives from baskets, to try and mimic the old, dead, hollow trees the hives are found in. In this, they succeed fairly well, or so it seems. When they come to trying to coax the bees into their new homes however... They hit a problem. An angry, buzzing problem. With stingers.

By the time they manage to out-run the swarm and dive into the river, many of them are badly stung and in a great deal of pain.
>Research is required to catch and care for bees successfully

In slightly better news, the new forge is fully completed, the new designs meaning there seems to be a lot less risk of fire when smelting and casting the copper.
>>
Well guys, do we research bees or stone working this time? I'm personally more inclined to bees.
>>
>>24150855
I'd imagine stone working still, unless bee keeping wouldn't take but a turn or two.

B) Go hunting, send Derrik and our prissiest along with the hunt.
A) Show the scouts the stone we found and ask around if anyone has seen something like this. If not we send out scouts to try and find more of it.

>>
>>24151367

>>24151367
Yes, in fact, ask around the whole fucking village.
>>
>>24151367
The short answer is, "Nope! Never in my life. The Spray Folk probably know."

>>24150957
Work continues apace on the concept of using stone for walls. The wisemen think they are nearing a new breakthrough...

Derrik again leads the hunters into the forest and returns with more than enough meat to see the tribe through at least another moon.

The scouts have never seen the peculiar stone in their lives, or if they have, they never realised its importance and thus quickly forgot about it.
>>
>>24151538
So then we sent them out as the action stated, yes? Perhaps we won't find any of it soon, buuuut, still.
>>
>>24151538
The action stated we send out scouts if none of them had seen it.
>>
>>24151538
EVENT
The Spray Folk traders have returned to the village! There are a lot more of them this time, or so it seems at first glance. When they pull their boats up the shore however, it is revealed that the extras are, in fact, the tribesfolk who left with them so long ago! They are happily welcomed back by their families and seem to be none the worse for wear. Some of them even have interesting stories to tell about the Spray Folk village!

Before that however, the Spray Folk have brought things to trade!
>Will the tribe trade?
>If so, what for?
>>
>>24151656
Decline trade this time. Instead tell them this.

"We will be making a trip to your village soon. We shall seek to trade then. Expect us in two months."
>>
>>24151656
Talk to the tribes-folk before we trade, see how they have been treated, and if they have any new skills.

Also keep the tin knowledge a secret.
>>
>>24151656
Well what have they brought to trade?
>>
>>24151656
I don't think we should trade with them.
>>
>>24151656
I agree with >>24151708 that we shouldn't trade. Also >>24151716 we shouldn't let them know we have any tin.
>>
>>24151716
>If they have been treated badly, we should demand compensation, considering how well we treated the smith.
>>
>>24151708
Ref raises a good point I suppose.

We're fresh out of winter and have few furs to trade, we will send a group down river in two months with new furs worthy of their goods.
>>
>>24151806
Remember, we have a bear pelt. I say we spend a point to pretty it up and get it ready for a gift when we make it to the Spray Folk village.
>>
>>24151656
What do they have to offer? How many guys did we send there again? Did they go forth and multitply? Did they interbreed with the spray? Were they prohibited from doing so?

>>24151806
We went hunting 2 times very recently, didn't we?
>>
>>24151844
Indeed we did, but not for anything they'd be entirely too crazy about. They like bears, beavers, foxes, deer and stuff like that, I say we spend an action hunting for those specifically before we head down there so as to make our trade seem more excellent and perhaps get a little more than usual from it.
>>
>>24151806
I like this, we should go visit them once in a while, I don't like the way they treat us as a trading post. We might also get some idea of how much profit they make from us, I am guessing it is also, after we speak to the tribesmen who stayed with them for the last 10 years, this will give us an advantage when trading with them in future.
>>
>>24151960
The tribe makes it clear that while they do not have anything to trade this time, they intend to visit the Spray Folk village as soon as possible, with goods fit for trade. The Spray Folk seem to accept this and after conducting some small business with the tribe, go on their way.

What should we take to the Spray Folks? The cow carts going beside the river? or our boats in the river?

>>
>>24152846
Carts, but I would say we should wait till we can send some of the unsullied, I mean devout's, with them.
>>
>>24152846

Cow Carts. It would take longer, but you are right, they do carry more.

But we should figure out how long it takes to get there anyway. I figure along the river moving through the forest at about, lets say, 10 miles a day. That could take a loooong time.

Then again, our rafts are crappy at the best of times.
>>
>>24152879
Good idea. And it's true that it will take longer but our carts are more impressive. To our knowledge no one else has carts.
>>
Does anyone else have carts?
>>
>>24152884
We should probably send some rafts along the river too now that I think about it.

>>
>>24152989
They might not have the wheel, who knows.
>>
>>24152989
I'm not too convinced of that. If trade by water is how they comfortably get by, then they might not have seen the need for a land-based travel.
>>
>>24152989
I think you're right, but even if you aren't it doesn't matter, we can hardly trade this knowledge, they will just steal it. Also they know we aren't advanced, and they will most likely just see it as us striking lucky... Little do they know that the Long Fangs are being helped along by a small group of futurelings.
>>
>>24153002
>>24153020

Its not even really a trade issue so much as a logistical one. It makes sense that at some point somebody got tired to moving heavy stuff by hand and said "Hey, lets put these in a box with wheels and have big animals pull it around instead."

I might very well be wrong, of course, but it seems that any sufficiently advanced society would have come up with that concept.

Confronted by a blizzard of questions, the 'strangers' as they are joking referred, do their best to answer what they can.
The Spray Folk village seems to be home to roughly six hundred adults, give or take a few elders and children.
Their leader, as the Spray Folk themselves explained, is a single chief, chosen from among their number by the heads of their families, much the same way the tribe has been talking about doing.
The Strangers claim they were treated well by the Spray Folk, given their own huts to live in, outside their walls and generally asked to perform manual labour, such as tilling the fields, or cutting lumber, freeing up the Spray Folks' number for other tasks.
Their laws seem to be much or less the same as the Long Fangs; aimed at protecting property and safety. The Chief has final say in all things.
The Strangers did not have much of an opportunity to see the Spray Folk fighting, but they occasionally saw some weapons worn. They do not seem to have any organised fighting force.
The Spray Folk seem to be fairly advanced. Their homes have tiled floors, strewn with dried grass, the timbers they use are well-cut and they build boats that are far more impressive than the tribe's canoes, rafts and coracles. Further, they do not seem to wear animals skins, except furs, which they consider a mark of wealth and status. Instead, every one of them wears cloth, generally made by their women, from plants which flower blue. The Strangers were often tasked with sowing and gathering this plant, so they are very familiar with it.

>>
>>24153802
I do indeed concur, sir. Assuming we can get our returned villagers to find some of that blue flower nearby in the forest.

What point is a loom if we don't have the resources required to run it?
>>
>>24153802
Agreed, we should also try to destroy them at some point, we have a much bigger potential fighting force.
>>
So as far as priesthood goes, we should begin establishing roles for the various temples and religions. Obviously, Groza is going to have the reigns in Warfare. Chani's priests are the Diplomats of the Riverlands, as well as the healers. Hrunti's priests are wise of the forest and of nature, and skilled in hunting all prey, man or beast. Think assassin druids with little powers

Yeneth's priests spread the love, officiating marriages and operating passion houses. Perwan's priests farm the lands and provide the tribe with food. Ermetha, as the Sun-In-Ascent, will take charge of those warriors wishing to rise to power through divinity. Think paladins of Pelor Marnath is the Sun-In-Descent, and his priests are the loremasters and guides to the more subtle magics of the Sun. Now think Clerics

I'm not sure what to do with Khoine though. Maybe her priesthood would act much like Marnath's, only dealing with Winter instead of Sunlight.
>>
>>24153860
We're actually roughly even in numbers. And our purely military force is not much more than tough street brawlers.
>>
>>24153897
I could get behind this idea. We need to find more specific roles for our gods, I think.

But I don't think our people are ready for whore houses though. Maybe a little later on that one.

They don't necessarily have to be whore houses, just places of passion. Maybe it's a Bar, maybe it's a Opium Den, who knows?
>>
>>24153905
Well if we enslave the River Bros and Earth shitters we should have no problem.

I may need to write something up in detail.
>>24153897
I like this.
>>
>>24153959
Yes, lets introduce our people to opium and then eventually heroin once they get their herblore up to snuff.

How could that possibly go wrong?

I get your point though. But first we should work on a currency system, I think.
>>
>I am so, so sorry that took so long.
>>24153743
The tribe, seeing their food supplies dwindling, implore Derrik and Rina to assist them in hunting and fishing. Trym also joins the hunt, but Mikuhla, when asked, politely refuses. Nevertheless, even without the sun priest, the tribe manages an excellent haul, letting everyone breathe a sigh of relief.

The wise ones make a breakthrough! Although not 'true' stone walls, they have the novel idea of facing an earth bank in stone, then lining a palisade along the top, to make what they call a half-timber wall!

The scouts depart upstream, in an attempt to locate more of the unusual stone found in the bronze smith's hut. After the moon has passed however, they return empty-handed.
>>
>>24154022
Currency would be hard because we don't really have anything to value it with.

Also, something I propose, we should try to spread our gods throughout the Riverlands. This means River Bros, Earthsplitters, Spray Folk, and any others. A common pantheon will simplify things greatly when it comes time for unification.

I think for the future when we want to keep looking for "Tin", these new weird stones, we should perhaps look for a place with lots and lots of stone.

Like that mountain way over there.
>>
>>24154094
We already tried that one with the River Bros. They dont want any part of our gods and I'd imagine that the other tribes already worship more or less the same ones as us with a couple extra to boot.
>>
I think this is a good point to pause our research for now.

If we do research I'd prefer it being into apiary or improving the village quality. Or basically anyhting that will make us less like backward cavemen.
>>
>>24154194
Really the only gods we need to spread are Groza and Chani. If all the tribes in the Riverlands worship them we can always count on their military to fight Honorably, and also they wouldn't dare attack a soul who seeks sanctuary in Chani's river.

So here is my idea, it may seem like I am a war monger but my main priority is too make our tribe the strongest force possible. I know we lost the sunset wars, but I do not think we have much more knowledge of the tribes nearer to us. My aim would be to have the first part of our empire stretching to the sea, it would be the first 60 miles we conquered and probably the hardest 60, but I believe it would be worth it.

First of all we need to spend sometime building up a supply of bronze weapons, we should focus on collecting tin, preferentially without trading for it.

Once we have this advanced weaponry we should attack the river bros, I suggest on a pretext that we can discuss nearer the time. Once conquered we would need to spend a good few years making there lives better, and convincing them we are one people. Once we have them onside the earth spliters should crumble before us.

Then we should begin trading with the Sprayfolks, increasing their trust for us, letting them forget about conquest of the other two riverland tribes, I would suspect that allot of fur would appease them.

After several years of building out economy, and hopefully opening up trade with another faction, as we will hopefully have some results by then from the party we sent out last thread, we will fall down on the spray folks bringing them to heel, enslaving most of them, killing the others. The River Bros will be kept as equals, the earth splitters should be granted autonomy to rule as long as we get a tithe of food each year, and allow us to garrison some troops within their village. The remains of spray folks tribe should be brought up river to build a monument to the Lion bros, and then kept to work for us, as we see fit and in reasonable comfort.

This is a long term plan, but I feel it would have huge rewards, I hope you agree with at least a few of my points.
>>
>>24154167
A. Have the scouts continue their search for tin. Knowing that things flow down stream from upstream, perhaps they should check parts of the river such as natural bends or up on the shoreline.

D. Gather them fruits and vegetables. We're out of berry liquor too as I recall.

E. Begin researching bee keeping since we're reached a nice break point in our masonry research.
>>
>>24154369
Second I suppose. Berries would be useful for the trade convoy.
>>
>>24154369
Once we figure out beekeeping, start researching how bees related to berries. Research agriculture afterwards. Then, find ways to preserve the crops grown so we don't lose as many to starvation in the winter.
>>
>>24153743
Can we ask the Sprayfolk Chief how he became chief next time we go trade with them? We seem to be fumbling in the dark when it comes to this gov't stuff, and I'd really like to put an end to it so we can finally bring some order to the tribe. Also, howdy all, overslept.
>>
>>24154315
Alternative plan.

We set up the sun of Trym as the ruler of our tribe. His ties with the River Brothers will allow him to more easily bleed our culture into theirs, getting them to worship our gods and all that great shit. When the time is ripe, Trymsson will enter into a diplomatic marriage with whoever leads the River Brothers (Or their wife/whoever)

At this time, we will begin using the Priests of Hrunti or whatever our blackops unit will be. They will systematically assassinate the heirs to the River Brother tribe, leaving the son of Trymsson as the only legitimate heir. It may take three generations, but it is way less likely to kill us if we fuck up.
>Assassins get discovered, "Rogue group operating outside of our orders"
>Trymsson has no children, he uses his affiliation with their tribe as a Casus Belli for subjugation.

We at least cover more bases this way.
>>
>>24154572
Seems like a fairly question to ask him though I think we already know the answer to be honest.

The only part we fumble with is actually electing somebody. It's rather annoying to be honest.
>>
>>24154586
This sounds good, it also brings in the new priest idea you suggested which I like. I don't care if people hate my idea, I just really want some discussion about it, as sooner or later it will become relevant.
>>
>>24154586
It's an alternative plan for subjugating the River Brothers, at least.
Also
>Casus Belli
>Imp in charge of spelling

:(
>>
>>24154369
Gonna support this, seems reasonable enough. We should think about building the wall this winter.
>>
Now for some ideas on our Goverment!

So we're a tribe, and the obvious leader of any tribe is a chief, but the question is how to elect him.

I propose a moot be held between the leading priests of each god. This moot will elect the new Chief, and serve as his royal council for the duration of his service.

The only stipulation imposed will be that none may vote for a member of any priesthood. Our leader should not be affiliated with the Gods. His place is to be the ruler of Men, and so it is to Mankind that he should devote all of his thought. If we had say, Gerin become our chief, then Groza might call him up any day and we would be left without a leader.

Just an idea.
I'm horrible at knowing what to do when there isn't a specific situation, which is why I'm putting out all of this potential fluff
>>
>>24154369
Seconding this.
>>
>>24154369
Yes.
>>
>>24154780
I still say we should have an immortal leader. Find some way of promoting Trym to a spirit in death and making him an eternal leader.

Trym Godslayer, Lord of Mankind.

An actual possibility, it's like 3am sometime then.
>>
>>24154369
The scouts head upriver, as instructed, looking for the unusual stone in every shore and bend of the river. They still find nothing however and come back cold, wet and doubting the sanity of whoever sent them. After all, rocks don't float downstream like leaves, do they?

Although it is a little early in the season for fruits, the gatherers manage to find some late summer bounty. They return with a small, but healthy haul of fruit for the village.
>NOTE - This fruit will have to be manually chosen to be converted into liquor, or used for planting.
>Once it is used in one way, it cannot be used in any other. Fruit that is planted, or turned into liquor can no longer be eaten.
>Don't question it.

The wise ones seem very reluctant to look into anything involving bees, after the first near-disaster, but after a few excellent impressions of rock wobblers are directed their way, they agree to apply themselves to it. After a LOT of stings, discomfort and failed experiments, the wise ones finally discover that smoking the bees works very well to knock them cold for a time, whereupon they can safely be handled by heavily wrapped hands. They also figure out a way to wrap one's body and face, preventing the bees from doing too much damage. As for what can't be stopped... Well it's nothing a high pain tolerance and some cool water won't fix...

Should we try ourselves at some orchard wizardry now that we have Perwan?

Might as well, we can still gather fruit next turn, I believe anyway and an orchard of sorts would be lovely once it was up and running.
