You are Ssen, a Lamia raised by a human Paladin who adopted you after killing the ones who birthed you. You are grown now, and Father has passed on. After a great deal of work, you have become a Paladin like your Father, and now take up his duties.

You are accompanied by your best friend from childhood, the insect druid Tricia; Mage, a magic user who ran away from his family of cannibal raiders known as the Ghouls (Yes, his name is Mage. It was his idea); Persephone, a 22-year old thief/ex-guerllia fighter (She goes by Peri), and Mari, a 13-year old prodigy scholar/now sniper, who has her mind and soul trapped within Peri's body; and Lea, a deeply religious musician/martial artist, trained by her father, a famous trainer for arena fighters, she's covered from her mouth down in bandages to hide the horrific state her body has become thanks to the 'cures' that saved her from cancer.

Your journey continues...

Your talks with the harpies went smashingly well. The food was good, Isen babbled diplomatically, and the queen was busy having fun flirting and feeling up Robin.

It turned out that, while food and acceptance were welcome additions to their lives, the thing the harpies wanted most of all was security. That there would be no rogue harpies, or monsters, or other threats to their lives. That was what living on Old One's mountain offered, and if you could match that, then the extra bonuses of food and other amenities would be enough to seal the deal.

Of course, at that moment, Robbie, one of the less-than-loyal servants of the Dramatae, arrived to tell you that the Dramatae and the 'Fallen Lightbringer,' whom you knew as Adahn, were going to be arriving at the shrine within the hour.

You quickly evacuated everyone, and grabbed the real treasures of the shrine. The Iron Books, the legacy of the Bear Tribe, and the best chance you're new world will have to better understand the monsters.

You managed to get the books and escape with them, mere minutes before the Dramatae came calling. Naturally, they were less than pleased to have been inconvenienced by you, again.

Back in the safety of Stone Hall, you managed to figure out how to decipher the Iron Books. Now it was a matter of translating them. Also, the consensus was that your moment is now. You've sapped enough power from the Dramatae, scattered their plans, and sent them back into their lairs. No more waiting for the next plot, and no more just dealing with any further Passions or puppets. Now you have a chance go on the offensive and hunt these bastards down.

But first we need to get Munmei flying.

Who was freaking out. Seriously hilarious.
>Varying degrees of polite do not want

We should most definitely get those books transcribed before we resume our adventure though. We need copies spread out as backup in case they try to take the Iron Books from us in the future.
Robbie did say the three would come looking for them.
And evidence to the contrary we've seen would be meta atm.
>>
we need to talk to a few people before we leave, but transcribing the books will take weeks if not months... and thats if we spend ALL our time at it. Its not only reading what they say its interpreting it, as I doubt most people will get the Leviathan dialect. They were also described as having the entire library within their pages... not a small job. For now we hang on to them until we can find scribes and those who are willing to help those scribes translate.
>>
>>24555774
>we need to talk to a few people before we leave,
Who? And on what topic?

Oh and Isen, Jeremy, Rachel, and Quentin are willing to stay in Stone Hall and do the diplomatic stuff with Balles.

>>

Mainly Jeremy and some healers and whomever else about helping Mumei walk. We did promise after all and he is the lead surgeon of Bronze Peak.

As far as who to take with us, I kinda want to take Tara. We need a tank.
>>
>>24555862
Right, my bad. I meant Bronze Peak.
>>

we kinda are the tank

and yea, talk with Jeremy about reversing the damage the bindings did to Mumei's feet.

Jeremy looks at the Princess' feet and shakes his head. "This is complicated. The bones are healthy, the skin's fine, the veins have matured. She has perfectly healthy feet, for a five year old." He shrugs. "This is common for her people?"

You translate. She replies. "Ever since an Empress did this to her daughter and called the mangled mess to be as beautiful as Heaven Lilies." She sighs. "I am sorry. I should not have asked for such a thing."

"Don't give up hope yet." Jeremy says. "There's some options." He checks the bones in her feet. "They did a very good job with this, which is actually not bad. If you don't want to use replacements or magic, there's something I can try." He frowns. "It's painful though. Very painful. I'd have to literally break your foot into pieces. I've done this technique to make people an inch or two taller, but I have no idea if this would work or not. You'd still need extensive muscle therapy."
>>
>>24556053
"Any idea what options we have if we don't mind using magic to help? And while replacements might be a bit drastic, some kind of prosthetic might be an option, perhaps with Quentin or Mage's help? If I've learned anything from trying to do the impossible it's not ruling anything out without considering it. What's the best option?"
>>
>>24555824
We need to talk to Ava/Lilly before we leave, since we might not be back this way.

And since we're planning on visiting the elves, too, we should talk to Robin. We may or may not visit them officially, but we're visiting their territory.

I think we should get her walking first. We should head down to the local smith and tailor, to get her sized up and an artifical over-foot created. Where should the weight be supported? Her heel is clear for weight support, but the toes are fucked. So we can put a bit of the support on the heel- full support there, though, is terribly damaging. So we need auxillary support, I suggest resting on the calves or ankles, strapped on tight.

>>24555824
Oh, and we also need to talk to Paul about the Roc book.

"Personally?" Jeremy says. "I think using magic on people is crazy dangerous. Especially for something permanent. As for prosthetics..." He shrugs. "We could ry something, but the simplest solution would be just to," He mimes a chopping motion. "And give her pegs or a wooden facsimile as replacements. The result would be the same." He sighs. "That's the safest option that's the best option." He scratches his chin.

"Now hold on, Jeremy's given me a really really dumb idea, and I mean seriously dumb, not just 'we might die' but 'this really shouldn't be done at all.' Mage says. "I mean, this is worse than a Dawnchaser Plan."

"Quit stalling." Peri says.

"Alright, Ghoul Fleshshaping magic wouldn't work long term...but that's if I do it directly to the feet." He says. "But Princess Mumei's body has the feet of a five year old...what if I could jump start the growth process in her again? That's been done before by Ghouls. They made kids grow faster so they'd be more ready to fight sooner." Mage says. "If I could localize the effect, and focus...wait...no..." He shakes his head. "There's a catch. I can't fudge that with horse meat, or other animal meat. She'd need to consume one element that I can't replace for that spell to work."

"Human flesh." Mari says.

"Yeah." He shrugs. "Sorry, all my solutions come down to that, now that I think of it."

You translate a synopsis. The Princess shakes her head slowly. "I knew that Magic would demand a too high price. I will pass on that option." She smiles at you though. "Thank you still for all your efforts."
>>
>>24556295
"Wait, that brings up an interesting point. Remember the other half of the task; we also have to find a way for her to fly. Would bird flesh be an option? If not for the feet, then for something that would allow flight?"
>>
>>24556295
Alright, if magic is out you have Jeremy's methods which if it does work it will leave you able to walk but it will take time and it will be torturous. Or you can go with the prosthetic idea. Either using a brace and shoe sort of deal... or removing your feet and going with a direct replacement. Both require maintanence but with a little practive you will probably be walking after strengthening your legs.

"I honestly have no idea. She's from the Phoenix Empire. There's a lot of little differences in physiology. That way she can walk, dance, fly (short distances), and crush her enemies! Possibly all in the same day or at the same time!

There's a concoction that might work. If you're understanding this right. They used it to regrow torn flippers. If it can stimulate regrowth of a tip that size. Then maybe this could work.

There's a catch though. Half of these ingredients are amazingly rare and expensive, a quarter of them are things like the secretions from one of the most fatal types of jellyfish known. And you have not even heard of this type of fish that they want you to get the eggs from.
>>
>>24556983
hmm, perhaps the Mer could help with that, if we can find any non-feral ones.

>>
>>24556983
Mumei seems fairly affluent here, as does Isen who would probably be willing to help, so the rarity and unknown nature seems more immediately problematic than the expense.

Has anyone else heard of the fish in question? We could keep this as a backup plan, at least; it might work for the feet if the Roc book can't help there. And if we plan to visit the Mer, we might get some help from that department.

Alright, so Paul's been able to read the Roc Book. There aren't chapters in this book. Rocs have a stream of consciousness narrative, like the way Paul talks, only they don't stop for months.

They start with their history and creation myths which then goes into telling about the Rocs themselves who they are and then their biology which then segues into the harpies which the rocs value more than the Dragons and they talk about their history with the other great monsters and then talking about their territory compared to theirs which then has to mention their food which goes into their eating rituals, which then swings into their other rituals, which goes into their language, which goes into their spells, then into their famous battles, which then swings back into their history. It circles around and around like this, different each time.

If the magic stuff doesn't pan out, how about a prosthetic like this? It could help Mumei along in learning how to walk, and the part that substitutes for a foot could be worn when Mumei does build up enough leg strength.

If there's magic that allows things to react to an attuned person's thoughts, then that could substitute for a sophisticated mechanical/robotic interface. The rest is just engineering and knowing how the human leg works.

You do have something. The rocs have more information of the Phoenix Empire than...well...anyone save for the Princess and they might have her beat too.

There's a few details on the process, a critique on the utility of clipping wings, a long long story about a bird with malformed wings that goes nowhere, and then a little quick mention on how one nest in the empire had one of the clipped wings and she was a rather sprightly chick who refused to be grounded so...more tangents and ramblings...oh...OH!

This wont help Mumei's feet, but if Paul is describing this right, this girl invented not only a type of prosthetic but one that worked with a glider. Paul's sketching out the design that the roc's describe in math terms. You get this to Barney, and maybe you can make something...although you don't have the same kind of reeds, woods, and 'paper' materials that this girl had.

Also this tale ends rather sadly. The girl was caught and left in a high iron cage and starves to death alone in the cold and the wind. Her machine destroyed and her family executed and home burned to the ground. Her entire history erased, save for the Roc's. The Emperor's chosen are the only ones allowed to fly, such is the Emperor's will. There ARE no exceptions.

OK, let's check the potentially relevant chapters of the troll book for potential information about healing (doubt it'll cover flight that doesn't involve trolls throwing things).

And we can ask Paul if he'd have any luck catching a hawk or similar raptor.

After that, we lay out some options for Mumei. The fleshshaping magic might still be her best short-term option for feet, and possibly her best option for flight, though in both cases we might want Mage to try the temporary approach first. The Leviathan healing potion seems like the best long-term option for her feet, but it'll require us to start tracking down some materials (what do the others know about that unknown fish?); I think we ought to visit the Mer anyway, though, and see if there are any non-monstrous Mer we could talk to. And the glider seems like the least invasive option for flight.
>>
For completions sake, if you want to try the Troll Book, it's 1d20 -1 as Tara doesn't quite get the language.

scratch that earlier one, wrong linked post.

Well, the good news is that there's clear stuff in there about regeneration, and more importantly, bone setting, and the biology of creatures in such detail that it's actually really disturbing.

Bad news is that it's not about humans. Still, Jeremy might find this stuff useful, Lesser Troll feet are close-ish to human feet, so maybe it'll help a bit with that option.

(Lesser Trolls are the trolls you're familiar with existing and have seen pictures of. The Original Trolls...are NOT those trolls.)
>>
>>24557913
It's kinda why it's pointless to do the modifiers when rolling.

>>
>>24557993
But we aren't copying the dragon book. The dragon's agreement has no bearing on the Troll, Roc, and Leviathan books.
>>
We still need to get our hair done by our lightbringer friend, guys.

>>
>>24558066
Old One specifically told us to ask the Bear Tribe's descendant if we are allowed to copy any of the books.
>>
We could probably convince him to let us make copies anyway if we sell it as showing the majesty of the dragons to the lesser races.
>>
>>24558099
We'll have plenty of chance to convince him after we ask Holting. Let's do that first. Right now we don't have a strong reason to share it beyond our immediate trusted circle.

"Good work Tara- see if you can copy down that information about feet, and everything else, for Jeremy. Even if we don't use it personally, it could help a lot of people."

Tara hugs you, again you are thankful for your flexible spine.

Princess Mumei looks over all of the information. All of the options. All of the pitches. She looks at you...and she just collapses in on herself. Crying.

She all but throws you and your notes out of her carriage and locks the door.

"That was...odd." Mage says, a little surprised.
>>
>>24558141

" Hopefully those were tears of joy."
>>
>>24558141
"Odd, but understandable. Decisions of great import and the welfare of a people are being thrust onto her. It'll take some time for her to deal with it."
>>
>>24558141

Hopefully she's just overwhelmed that we're doing all this for her, and kicked us out so we wouldn't see her crying too much.
>>
>>24558141
She's probably not used to being treated as anything other than a tool.
>>
>>24558141
"Hopefully she was just overwhelmed by all of this, It is a lot to take in at once especially with her new responsibilities to the harpies."
>>
>>24558141
I think she expected me to forget about her. Leave her behind after getting what I wanted. It was how she has always been treated. A tool, a bargaining chip, useful until not needed. To have her wishes, her dreams be told they could be a reality might have overwhelmed her.

Give her time.
>>
>>24558141
Definitely overwhelming; we really didn't need to throw it all at her at once. When she asked us to do the impossible, I don't think she thought much about the path from here to there. She might need a friendly ear later, but for now I think we should leave her in peace for a bit. Let's go talk to Ava/Lilly; anything else we need to do here in Bronze Peak besides that?
>>
>>24558187
"Hopefully those were tears of joy."

"I will never understand women." Mage says.

"Don't try." Peri/Mari say.

"Anyway," You say pushing yourself up and dusting your scales off. "Come one Mage, we have one more stop together."

"Someone else to fix?" Mage says.

"Yes, you and your hair."

Mage twitches and tries to scream over the hot towel Ava has over his face, but the former-lightbringer's grip on his head is startlingly tight as she rinses his hair. "Now, I'm thinking of making it spiky and green, he is your little brother right? So, I'm thinking of something that says that, clearly." She says, smiling at you. "Or do you have other ideas?"

"ging to kll bth f ou!" Mage gurgles from beneath the towel.
>>
>>24558256
I think she was overwhelmed in a good way though. She asks for the impossible and we immediately start calling in favors and translating the long-forgotten texts of primordial beings.

"Mmmm, tempting. But no, that'd be funny for about an hour and then he'd be stuck with it. Let's go with something handsome and dignified. We're looking for 'young but wise beyond his years' here; we want the outside to look like the inside, right?"
>>
>>24558345
Nah, just give him a nice haircut. He has someone to impress.
>>
>>24558345
"I forgot how much you liked you wild hairstyles. We're more subdued- I'd just like something that matches my natural red, and I ASSUME he'd like his natural color as well. But please, do something about the bowlcut. Go for handsome. It'll help next time we visit stone hall."

>>24558345
"I don't know about spiky but green hair? Definitely.

"Ah joking aside, something a bit neat and clean for a hair cut if you could."
>>
What does she mean spikes match us? Are we spikey?
>>
>>24558443
The green is to match us. The spikes are probably a residual effect from being a JRPG love interest for so long.
>>
>>24558402
>>24558395
Putting these together:
"Tempting...but no. I forgot how much you liked wild hairstyles; I think we'd both like to stick with our natural colors here. We mostly came to do something about that bowl cut of his; he's more handsome than that, and there's someone back in Stone Hall who might appreciate him looking like it. Let's go with something dignified, more of a 'young but wise beyond his years' look. We want the outside to match the inside, after all."
>>
>>24558499
we also came to get our own hair back to its rightful sheen. We saw that it's growing back the right color, so we can safely re-dye to red.
>>
>>24558511
Right: "I think we'd both like to..."
>>
>>24558525

As much as I'd like to crack a jone about Mage starting to look more like our little brother in a hundred years or so, he hasn't come to terms with his future scaliness so it'd be rather dickish.

"Got it." Ava says. "Thank you so much for helping me with this position. They're so nice here." She says as she lets Mage dry and puts the last coating of dye in your hair. "You'll look great in a ponytail." She says, as she had to undo your braids and cut away at a lot of damaged, and still white, hair. "Plus with the way your hair grows, you'll be back to your long braid in no time. I'm jealous."

She's working with a barber surgeon who took on Ava in exchange for his loan to Jeremy. They mostly let her cut hair and gossip while they do the 'real' work, and she cleans up. They have no idea why there's now so many women coming in now.

"So," Ava says as she starts to work on clipping Mage's hair as yours soaks. "You said that there were some important things we needed to talk about?"

We think the Dramatae are going to set up Adhan as the new Shaper of Darkness, and burn down another town for a second set of lightbringers.

this, at least for the points of major surprise in the following.

"We just had the Dramatae come after us fairly directly up at the Bear Shrine, and it's pretty clear that they're no longer above collateral damage. They're gearing up for a major conflict to feed Citadel, and I don't think Adahn is playing the role of the Lightbringer anymore; I...I think they have him playing the nemesis the Lightbringer dies to destroy." Bitterly: "All to spice up the story.

"We're about to head back in the direction of Citadel, and I'm not sure we'll be back this way before this is all over. I promised you that you'd have a chance to make a life for yourself, here or wherever you wanted. And I still hold to that. But I didn't want to leave without offering you the chance to come along.

From the memories you showed me from the last time you saw him, Peace lied to him, and said you didn't love him anymore. There might still be a chance to snap Adahn out of it and save him in this life rather than the next. If there is, I think you're part of that."
>>
>>24558630
"Well, there's not much we can do about it, but you had probably already gathered by now that Adahn is in some serious trouble. I've interrogated a few of those working for the dramata, and they were talking about using some "fallen lightbringer" as the next villain in their play. They're going to burn another town to make the next hero, too. I couldn't in good conscience keep you in the dark about this, especially since we're going to be running off soon to deal with it all and you won't have time to ask after that."
>>

"Well, there's not much we can do about it, but you had probably already gathered by now that Adahn is in some serious trouble." You say. "You may want to put down the scissors at the moment."

"Please?" Mage says.

Ava does so.

"We just had the Dramatae come after us fairly directly up at the Bear Shrine, and it's pretty clear that they're no longer above collateral damage. They're gearing up for a major conflict to feed Citadel, and I don't think Adahn is playing the role of the Lightbringer anymore; I...I think they have him playing the nemesis the Lightbringer dies to destroy." You scowl and shake your head. "All to spice up the story.

"We're about to head back in the direction of Citadel, and I'm not sure we'll be back this way before this is all over. I promised you that you'd have a chance to make a life for yourself, here or wherever you wanted. And I still hold to that. But I didn't want to leave without offering you the chance to come along."

Ava shrugs, she doesn't say anything and turns away from your face.

"They're going to burn another town to make the next hero, too. I couldn't in good conscience keep you in the dark about this, especially since we're going to be running off soon to deal with it all and you won't have time to ask after that.

Ava shakes her head. "The magic that they gave me, doesn't work anymore. I can't wield anything more than these." She holds up her scissors. "Also...you know, I think Adhan and I...liked it, a little. We were not only just free, we were the most important people in the Kingdom." She sighs and shakes her head. "I'm sorry. I won't take you back down that road again."

>>24558925
"It's completely okay. You're making a good life for yourself here, and I'd hate to take that from you. I was simply obligated to ask.

She pauses to think, then she snaps her fingers. "Barley sugar sticks."

"What? Those things that shopkeepers give to six year olds to keep them quiet?" Mage says. "They taste like paste."

"Yeah. Adhan loves them." She shrugs. "That's...actually the only thing I know about him that wasn't based around the lie."

She finishes Mage's hair, and it actually looks fairly decent for once. Still that edge of 'lived in a cave until he was 19' is still present, but now it's more of a selling feature than a detriment.

Lea comes in the door. "Robin and the other two are missing." She says.

"So?" Mage says. "Robin split before the Queen could try to show him her plumage."

"Alright." Lea sighs.

"Also, Mage...remind me to have Isen talk to Balles about seeing what we can do for the Glass Assassins." You say as you head to Coins. "I'd hate to let 25 skilled men go to the headsman in this economy."

"So glad I got this." Mage mutters as he takes out a small notebook and a piece of fine charcoal. He takes a note. "Don't know why I ever think I can have free time. Even when I'm dead, I'm sure His Light will have a list of little things I can do for him." He mutters. He's smiling as he says it, though. "Sorry, Lea."

Lea sighs. "At least try to make your blasphemy honestly funny Mage." She gives him a smile. "Otherwise I will have to hit you."

"And again, I value the merit of living in caves, chewing on the femur of an unlucky fisherman." Mage says.

Robin's room in Coins looks like all the other high-ranking member's rooms. Too gaudy by half, and filled with tacky pieces of kitsch and books that no one in their right mind would read. The room is clean. You don't see any packs or satchels, or personal items. There's been signs of people living here, who cleaned up after themselves. It does honestly look like whomever was staying here just left. No suspiciousness at all.

earlier, when describing scents of things following us, echo described them as "not like the chocolatey-piney smell of robin and his goons"

which means elves smell like that.

I bet Isen smells delicious too. Royals and all that.

"I would have freaked out too, considering the tactics of our enemies.

"Hopefully they just booked it and forgot about the reward in the haste to get away from the feathers. If they did I expect they will show up again for the money, and probably a hefty bonus." You say, sighing. "That or they're probably playing some kind of spy game. There's no doubt some kind of hidden clue in the back of a matchbook to go to a bar to talk to an informant. Oh well! I don't know how to play spy games. Let's go."

Lea nods.

You hook up with the others at the Manor. Balles just tries to keep from collapsing from stress. His jail has never ever been this full. The paperwork, or by His Light, the paperwork. His world of perfect order has ended. However, Paladin Balles still stands as tall and as rigid as he can. The oak tree breaks, the reed bends, but Balles' is an iron rod and refuses to budge.

He's open to the idea of making the Glass Assassins into a work crew.

"So, his Lordship is staying here to help the transition and new...immigrants...to our city." Balles says. "And I understand that your business here is concluded. And you are leaving? Soon?"

You can almost hear the 'Please?' that came next. It's obvious that the mere idea of you and the Dawnchasers LEAVING is an idea that obviously fills him with glee. You are chaos incarnate, and the poor man needs some time to catch up.

Balles has enough on his plate, and both of the likely causes of his disappearance (coins or scampering on his own) seem like things he shouldn't be looking into.

Hmm I wonder where exactly the mer are. If they're on the Citadel side coast, it will be a long journey and the Dramatae may already have the upper hand. If it's on the Stone Hall side, we could get the Leviathan to take us there, stopping or at least delaying any bombardment and giving us artillery just in case.
>>
>>24560948
Well, we do have a lot to get done in general; eg. planning the Schola Clarus, possibly giving Mage a hand with some of the many things he's got on his plate as a show of good faith, or talking to each of our comrades about some of the heavy shit that got laid down when The Dragon who was an Asshole of Shadows took hold of us back at the peaks.

Printing press. Harpies. Suddenly raining fliers informing all inventors, scholars, and artisans of the mutual opportunity awaiting them at the light house of Stone Hall. "But yes, we'll be on our way shortly. Our apologies for increasing for increasing your paperwork; unfortunately, sometimes things do get worse before they get better. I do look forward to seeing the future glory of Bronze Peak reborn, though; I have no doubt you'll manage it."

Balles relaxes as he hands you the paperwork and a quill to sign it. "I actually am looking forward to it too." He sighs. "There's a different feel in the air these days. It used to be that all I had to do was turn around and I would have found that a year had gone by. Now, now I wake up and every day seems like a year." He chuckles as he hands you the last piece of paper. This one isn't for you to sign. It's two groups of names.

One of the lists is dramatically shorter than the other. It's still a long list, but for every one name on the short list, there's three on the other.

The short list has Uncle Julian, Paladin Avery, Paladin Balles, Father Uriah, Elegantine Tray (Her Illuminated Self), Prince Itzak Newgate, all names you recognize.

But there are some you don't. A lot of Paladins, and a few notable names: Princess Karen Newgate, Father Vincent Qualm, Overseer Ferris Dell, and so on.

The long list goes on and on though, and you see Paladin Odette and Overseer Trivalon's name on this list.

"I exchanged quite a few letters and favors to make this." He says. "Keep this close." He frowns as he looks at you. "They say we're causing the end of a Golden Age, destroying paradise."
>>
>>24561715

Allies against enemies? Or people who know of the Dramatae?
>>
>>24561715
Just stare at the long list for a bit. Then: "May I never speak ill of paperwork again. This is a wonder and a horror to behold. And some of the names on the short list are a particular comfort. Thank you, Paladin Balles."
>>
>>24561715
"The accusation is half right. We're bringing about the end of a -Gilded- age."
>>
What is better freedom to choose our own path? Or a paradise under a sometimes benevolent master whose only price is the lives few slaves every once and a while?

Thank you for the list Paladin Balles
>>
>>24561715
"There might be some truth to that. Though really, it was destroying itself. Bronze peak's loan fiasco is a prime example of that."
>>
>>24561715
HIS is on our side? I figured she would be Citadelized as hell.
>>
>>24561715
"Interesting times no matter where I go. I'm very sorry for all the bother Paladin Balles. Someday, I'll come to a town without uncovering half a dozen myriad darknesses bubbling up within."
>>
>>24561856
yeah, this.

It's hardly our fault that the country is run apparently on loan schemes, assassinations, and blood sacrifice. If they were so important to the running of the country, why are they so illegal?
>>
>>24561791
"There might be some truth to that. Though really, it was a gilded age at best, destroying itself at worst. Bronze Peak's loan fiasco is a prime example of that." You sigh as you look at the list. If a person can be judged by looking at his enemies, then at least you have quantity on your side. "May I never speak ill of paperwork again. This is a wonder and a horror to behold. And some of the names on the short list are a particular comfort. Thank you, Paladin Balles."

He smiles and shrugs. "I should have ran you out of town the moment you arrived." He extends his hand. "May His Light be with you, Paladin Serpent."
>>
>>24561890
OK. Time to do as we promised; this town isn't big enough for the both of us, so we'll leave him to fixing that.

"Thank you for this."
>>
>>24561995

Isen, Tara, and the Princess, see you off outside. The Princess hugs you, she cries when she does it. Tara helps her back into her carriage.

"She's leaning towards the surgical, but I've put money out on finding that potion stuff you told us about." Isen says. He sighs. "She's...I think that this was the straw that broke her dam, or something." Isen shrugs. "She's just freaking out that she'll be free. Like free free."

"Don't you have to marry her?" Tricia says.

"Eventually." Isen shrugs. "She's in no hurry. I'm in no hurry. Don't you even dare think about it, Paladin Serpent or Tara and I will kill you." He smiles. Followup: "But call me when 'eventually' rolls around, or if you two ever end up tying the knot. I'd be honored to do it sober when you're willing."
>>
>>24562171
It helps that Rachel already knows what Citadel feels like and has overcome it. That'll make it that much harder for it to influence her again, I think.

Isen nods. "Oh, I believe that." He says.

"Hey, Isen." Tricia asks. She's been looking at the list. "Who's Karen Newgate?"

"How'd you learn of HER? Ughhhh. She's my big sister, eighth in line for the throne. Kind of a total raging bitch. Please tell me she's still in the Phoenix Empire." Isen says. There's a look of absolute fear and loathing on his face.

"I think I like her already." Peri says.

"Bye, have fun, and kick ass and we'll have have a nice party on the beach soon!" Tara says as she gives each of you one of her hugs.

"Good fortune, my Beautiful Nightmares." Isen says with a wink. "How's about a nice full goodbye kiss, with a little lamia tongue for luck?"

You let a little bit of the black, just a couple of drops from each fang pool before you open your mouth and flick your tongue out. Any sane man would back up.

But this is Isen the Audacious.

"Kinky!" He says, and then his face swoops in and before you know it, you're getting a full bore kiss, and stupid stupid instincts. Your traitorous tongue responds for a few seconds before you pull it back in, and then Isen breaks off.

"Wow...Tricia's a lucky girl...be good to each...uhhh...tonge's gaon namb...oh...crap..." He shrugs. "Worth it!" He says, before he collapses in a slightly twitching heap.

Three days to River's Crossing, then 2 days to Coral Gate. Got it.

...Marvelous.

I guess we should head on to Stone Hall and tell someone there.

Meanwhile: what's the condition of the river?
>>
>>24563279
Or rather, I should ask: what is this bridge crossing? A river, a gap, some rough ground?

It's used to cover a river that floods during the rainy times. Thankfully, it's actually not that deep right now. Peri could walk across with her feet touching the river bottom, and not get her head wet. She'd get everything else submerged, though.

You go over the river and through the wood to Granny's place you go.

Stone Hall is fine, save for the CSS Leviathan, hanging out there like an ominous boil on the water. You drop off your report about the bridge to Avery's people. It sounds that the city's been a city, some crime, nothing /bad/ bad, and the new inventor's market is really picking up steam. In a few places, literally. The Lighthouse is the same, Ambrose hasn't gotten his hands on any new lore yet, but he's overjoyed to hear about the Iron Books, and is making a spot for them, and demanding Barney build protection for them.

The night passes without incident, and the next day you're back on the road.

indeed. Though there's probably as many of them as rocs.

Though, they'd be great support for amphibious lizardmen. If we could get ourself onto the ship, we could gas it. But that's a lot of dead sailors who didn't do anything wrong.
>>
>>24563927
er, not rocs, but harpies. whoop.

Of course. He's getting his own to-do book. The problem is that you don't have bamboo, or rice paper, available to use as building materials. So he'll look into improvisation.

Also those are two low enough rolls to ensure that you arrive at River's Crossing without problems.

Home is just as quiet and peaceful as ever. Well, save for the notice board. Apparently there's been a lot of new notices posted about how it's rained in Citadel, the degeneration of culture in Stone Hall, the unprecedented greed of Bronze Peak, and how every person needs to examine themselves deep within and find that part of them that unquestioningly loves Citadel Kingdom and to let it out into the world, for it knows best.

Also, according to the news notices, the Purple Occuli's office has been suspended. Apparently the good men and women in that branch of the Occuli are needed elsewhere. There's a vague mention of the Fey Court threat, but it's lumped in with desert clan raiders, and Ghouls.

But that's national news. In local River's Crossing news, the most exciting thing is that Illsabell had a boy. (she's the wife of the dairy farmer) The new forge mistress is engaged with Elias, huh, good for him. And sadly Elias' mother has passed away, also good for Elias. Because with that horrible old woman gone, River's Crossing is now cleansed of anyone who ever gave you a dark look as a child.

The others all make themselves home at Elias' tavern, congratulating him. You and Tricia go over to her home, and Alexander and Katherine are there to welcome the two of you with a nice large dinner.

"So..." Alexander said. "Things are picking up, it seems like. Rain in Citadel." He shakes his head. "I remember when that felt like almost a victory."
>>
it won't be victory until Peace is dead. And that is a while off. We cannot face her yet.

I think we were here to warn them to prepare the defences in case an unexpected attack comes. Then visit the Lamia and see how feral they are.
>>
>>24564058
"Yes, things ARE picking up. I assume you've had some time to think about how you, and by extension how River's Crossing, are going to survive this? Because the hard part is not as far off as I'd like, I think."
>>
>>24564058
"I was actually kinda anger about it truthfully. Well, I should I say I got anger for being blamed for it. Even if it's true.

"But no, a little rain in Citadel is no victory. Just a step towards. Showing that what we're doing is having an effect.

"Though it has gotten to point where 'they' are moving very openly now."

I think we need to do some redecorating.

> "So..." Alexander said. "Things are picking up, it seems like. Rain in Citadel." He shakes his head. "I remember when that felt like almost a victory."

I think he needs to hear about us stopping them from getting their Rage. Now that was a victory.

More generally: time to reminisce about our adventures since we last saw them, which leads naturally into the increasing threat.

I hope Rivers Crossing doesn't become a target. We know the Dramatae are doing a restart, and don't want the doomed home village to be here. Or anywhere, really.

Basically it means nobody is watching our cases now to ensure they are legal.

Which could mean any number of things, most of them bad.
>>
>>24564145
It's confirmed. I've been saying since we met Robbie, it's the obvious storybook villain thing to do, and that's exactly why Peace is going to do it. They're as much bound by the "characters" Citadel has turned them into as the Lightbringers they sacrifice.

Peace probably wants River's Crossing so bad she can TASTE it.
>>
>>24564218
Peace actually seemed fairly emotional about the idea, and not necessarily in a good way. I get the vague impression she might have some connection to it.

Alexander nods. "I've had Katherine run the numbers, we'll be fine." He shrugs. "Now, if there's a horde of starving refugees banging down our doors after they're done with White Tree." He shakes his head. "That we can't do."

"Aren't you worried about the Dramatae?"

Alex shakes his head. "They don't really go for revenge. Peace doesn't at least." He sighs. "Maybe they rather us live. Die straw deaths, and all the while they live it up. The best revenge is living well, as they say." He sighs. "Of course, your father proved them wrong, and so did I." He squeezes Tricia's hand. "I may not see Citadel fall, but they didn't beat me. Or your Father.

"Still though, do you know what you're going to do? There's got be two, maybe three million people living in that monster." He looks at you. "If you commit yourself to this, you can't have any doubt. You have to be willing to know what you're going to do, and what it will mean to the kingdom."
>>

"We're going to do everything possible, and impossible, to find another way. But if all else fails, and it comes down to that decision, I'd sooner have Citadel fall than have the entire continent become Citadel. Someone has to stop it, and if not us, it'll only be a worse decision for the next one to have to make that decision, if anyone ever has the chance."
>>
Yes, I know. I think we have no choice though. This can't continue. Theres too much evil tied up into that city. It was a built as a place of blood sacrifice and thats all it has ever been.
>>
>>24564273
"It will go on forever. These little rebellions, these outcries against the beast, the expansion. The cycle will go on and on, and throughout it all Citadel will grow, and grow, and grow, until it can't grow any more. At that day, then at the end of forever, when there are no more lands to pillage for blood and food... then it will fall. It will fall and the entire world will fall with it.

No, it must be brought down now, while it can be brought down. Before it consumes everyone."

"I'm still worried about you Dad, and Mom, and Elias, and everyone else." Tricia says.

"There's an evacuation tunnel under Uriah's church. Your father dug it himself. it connects with a few other places in town and puts us out away in the Gessler fields." Alex says. "Ever since you last came through with that caravan of yours, I've been forcing them to run drills, just in case." He nods. "If they attack the town, we can't save it, but we can save who's in it." He smiles. "You two really think that they'll try and come here?"

Tricia nods.

He sighs. "How about White Tree, is that safer? I mean, they wont try another Purple Sands, or Stone Hall right away, will they?"
>>
>>24564273
"Yes, Citadel must fall, even it it means that Grand Citadel will implode on itself. Someone has to stop it, or it will swallow the entire continent."

"Do not discount them coming here personally, they lost Rage, they are sending waves of Passions against us, and even tried to attack us in person at the Bear Shrine. They are getting desperate to restart the story, and NOTHING is more dangerous than a person or animal backed into a corner."

(Since we're thinking of going to Coral Gate next.)
>>
>>24564462

"That would prevent them from being attacked here, sure, but it doesn't prevent them necessarily from razing this place. The hero is always sent away on some minor thing while the home town burns down, this might be that minor thing."

Alexander nods. "True..." He shakes his head. "What would they attack us with though?"

"Right, they do sort of have a lack of evil forces, save for the masks." Tricia says.

"They wouldn't use them. That's power they can use in other places." Alexander says.

"Well, no Ghouls, no desert raiders, Fey Court?"

"Maybe, but they've always kept the Fey Court around for some reason." Alexander shrugs. "I don't want you all to just stay here to protect us from something that might happen. Odds are good that while you stay here, they'll wipe another town off the map without any interference at all."
>>
>>24564462
"Speak of the Darkness and it shall appear. Try to circumvent an event and it may come to pass."

"No. Rather than get too cute, we should focus on saving everyone in the town. The people survive, then we win with no guesswork. It's as simple as that."
>>
>>24564546
"There's... I've seen some lamia, way out in the forests. They could use those."
>>
>>24564547
Indeed. Towns can be rebuilt; we know that from Stone Hall. As long as the people survive, the rest matters less.

Now if only that would work for Citadel.
>>
>>24564546
"The Lamia out in the forest. If we can tell they're there, odds are good Citadel knows they're there as well. It'd also be almost poetic, wouldn't it? My hometown being razed by my own monstrous cousins, that is."

"Sounds exactly like a plot that someone with fetish for dramatic masks and fairy tales would think up."
>>
>>24564546
"We know only one thing, that they're planning on using one of the two surviving Lightbringers, Adah-Myriad darkness!"
>>

"There's... I've seen some lamia, way out in the forests. They could use those." You say.

Alex chuckles. "Yes." He nods. "That's...that sounds about right." He chuckles. "I've checked those out. There's two of them. They live...heh...they live in Bright Tower. Just like before."

"It'd also be almost poetic, wouldn't it? My hometown being razed by my own monstrous cousins, that is.

"Sounds exactly like a plot that someone with fetish for dramatic masks and fairy tales would think up."

Tricia nods. "Should we go out there to see?"

Alexander shakes his head. "Never try to fight a lamia on her home turf when it's dark. Only your father survived doing that and...I think he was hoping for a different outcome than what happened. He was in a dark place." He sighs. "I don't want to invite havoc by saying that you can wait until morning, but I doubt that you running into a force of lamia out in the woods would be much different than them attacking us a few hours later."

"So, wait until morning?" Tricia says.

He shrugs. "Best odds if you have to fight. Anyway, you should visit your father Ssen." He says. "Tricia, are you sleeping here tonight?"

Tricia shakes her head. "No. I'm going to be with Ssen." She smiles at you. "I would also like the lamia hunting to wait until tomorrow."

I wonder if Citadel suppressed lamia have all the same things we saw when 'sparring' with Granny, I expect the razor claws, but what about the Black, Clear and barbs?
>>
>>24564673
>>24564691
These, definitely. We're not going to take on a couple of feral lamia simply on the suspicion that the Dramatae might use them. There are far too many things wrong with that.
>>
>>24564695
no, citadel supressed lamia don't get the barbs, the black, or the clear. I am fairly certain that's only something uncontrolled, feral lamia have. Like us.

"Maybe it doesn't have to come to a hunt, have their been any stories of..attacks? Because, at least as long as I was here, I didn't hear of any problems. We could nip this all in the bud!"

"Night, bumblebee. Ssen." He says.

You and Tricia make your way back to your home. You smile as you enter it. At the very least, it's no longer filled with too many memories for you to be here without crying. At long last, the reason you left on this mad voyage has been complete. Heh.

Tricia goes to the back room and comes back, she's changed into a simple white slip, she's event taken off her hat. She has two vials in her hands. She sets them on the table. "That's everything we need. I had Mari double check it, too." She sighs. "Things are getting dangerous now, and...and I want to do one more really stupid thing before we start. If...if you're still considering it, then you need to put a fresh drop of blood in each, and I do the same, down the hatch and...well...then we're stuck with each other for a long time." She shrugs. "If you want to just say no, that's fine too. I mean, we thought that we should wait until I show more of the monster that I'm going to be, and plus I know I'm the one rushing you know and..." Tricia laughs. "Oh my, well...considering I can forgive you for your dalliances with your shield. I suppose I can forgive you for being amorous to another inanimate object."

You both fumble around and find a sewing needle. Two pinpricks and four drops of blood, and you're looking at a vial filled with a liquid that looks like ink.

"Supposedly, this is it. The dragon part of you is supposed to do the rest...I think." Tricia shrugs. "I suppose the fact that you're drinking the same thing I am is supposed to be the closest Dragons get to the concept of romantic. Should...should we say something, do a toast, or just down it?"

Trying to not laugh loud enough to wake roommates

You're in that space again. The place you met the Fifth, and the Dragon. Now there's just you, and quietly walking towards you, in her robe and mask is Peace.

"Hello." Peace says. With a swift move she draws the blade at her side. You know that sword. You hate that sword. That was the sword your Father thought would win him the day. That was the sword that was Peace's finest trick.

"Its name is Soma." Peace says. "You don't have to worry about River's Crossing. It's too big to be a proper lightbringer town. Too many traders, too much river traffic, people come and go from there to White Tree all the time. It's small, but it isn't cosy. It's not insular. I'd rather have you watch as your hometown becomes just another district of Citadel anyway." Peace walks around you. "For the longest time, even when we met in person. I thought you were working for my Father. Trying to revive him, or to put a Newgate on the throne that would result in the same thing. I thought the Fifth was working with him...but I was mistaken wasn't I?"
>>
>>24565325
"Of course you were. His reign was worse than citadel's! Though, more honest I suppose."
>>
>>24565325
I swear to god Echo if you do what I think your doing; I'll fucking kill you.

"Your Father was a more straightforward evil, and I can almost respect that over Citadel's insidious evil, but no, I'm not interested in trading one master for another.

"Now go away, I'm busy. We both know the story doesn't work if you kill me here."

Peace nods. "I'm not good at this banter anyway. Comedy has a flair for it." She looks at you. "You know something horrible is happening to Tricia. The spell is reacting poorly to her spirit. It's fascinating to look at a Wasp Witch in pupae form. Their souls are...segmented almost." She sighs. "You'll be fine of course. You've had worse posion in you. Placed by me even." She sighs. "Apologies about that. Assassins in ballrooms have very specific requirements if they are to be properly accepted. I'm woolgathering...apologies."

"Tricia is on the ground of your house. Forcibly going through what should take decades. This is no one's fault but yours and hers." Peace says. "I can do nothing to you here, and you will wake up in time...but...I can also send you to her mind, and give you a chance to save her sanity.

"You'll owe me a favor, of course."

Peace bows her head in thanks.

"I told Tricia once that others looked to me for their strength, but that I looked to her. And there's no way she'd support this. Do you really think the very first thing I'd do after choosing to share a life together is to play the monster?"

Peace says nothing.

"I have not placed my love in someone weak enough to die from this. Tricia is very strong and will be fine without me for tonight, and while I would rush to her heartbeat in a second to be there with her, she would not want me to risk everything we have worked for."

"A life for a life. If you help me save Tricia, you will get to name one person who will be saved. I will save them. They will live. Whoever it is. But you'll help me with Tricia first."

"I will accept that deal." Peace says. "You will do everything in your power to prevent the death of my associate who is known to you as Comedy. That is not her real name, but you are aware of her, and you have met her. She is not to be killed by you, your companions, or anyone else. Should by your direct, indirect, or by proxy actions or by your willing inaction, Comedy die...then you are in default. This is the deal, and there are NO loopholes. You cannot claim Comedy to be someone else, and you cannot arrange an accident to befall her and get out of the action or inaction clause. Comedy will be untouchable. That is my life that I choose. >>24565741
Yeah, that's Peace's one deal. That or an unspecified favor.

I'll let you guys vote on this one.
>>
>>24565772
oh god what are we doing. Let's pause for a moment before doing that and do a prayer like this.

"Light, I've asked you for help, I've asked you to cast out my foes, I've asked you to protect my allies. Today I ask you for the most important thing. Guidance."

Wait for divine providence to occur.
>>
>>24565767
And it's right. Trusting Peace in any shape or from is stupid. Even if we save Tricia what price did we just pay for it?
>>
>>24565741
We've converted or forgiven enough people, and Comedy and Tragedy aren't Peace; I could live with her left to rot of her own accord, if she can't be turned. And some signs we've seen suggest she *might* be more malleable than Peace. *If* we think we can't save Tricia otherwise.

But I'm still tempted to tell her to run away, and do it ourselves. We have access to mind magics; Mari and Peri have already researched quite a bit of that. I think we could pull it off without her.

If we do decide to take it, I'd add this: "You have risked nothing to save a life here; I will not risk life and limb saving her. But she will not die by our hands, or by our arrangement, or by trickery or loopholes on our part."

But if it were up to me: screw her, we've done the impossible before, and we can do it again, without Peace's help.
>>
>>24565817
Comedy is the one behind the babyeating parties.

We could imprison comedy forever until the end of time, but that is the only way in which this is acceptable to me.
>>
>>24565741
kind of stops our plan to offer up the heads of the Dramatae to Old One.

wait, if we deliver the heads of all three Dramatae, perhaps we can negotiate for a single dose of Old One's blood to cure Tricia of insanity, assumine we cannot prevent it or cure her before then.
>>
>>24565828
And yet, still not as bad as Peace.

I'm also finding it interesting that that's who she asks for, now that we have some idea of who Comedy might be.
>>
>>24565847
You have a point, insanity is not death. The former is less impossible to reverse than the latter, not that that'd stop us in either case.
>>
Technically she only said die

Peace said nothing about kept alive in complete, total, bindings, being fed by the mouth at the very minimum daily, defecating into some random hole until the light is gone from her eyes, wanting to die but unable to, due to her compatriot's Deal.

inb4 peace is one of our inner circle
>>
>>24565786
Before we make a decision: throw up.

Because this is a really big decision.
>>
>>24565786
Fucking no. Even if we hadn't already made another deal and promised Comedy's head to Old Ego. This deal just screams bad idea. And not Dawnchaser bad idea.
>>
>>24565795
"Light, I've asked you for help, I've asked you to cast out my foes, I've asked you to protect my allies. Today I ask you for the most important thing. Guidance."

Peace lowers her hand and walks around you so you have to look at her. Every time you move, she moves to stay in your sight, and if you jerk and twitch, she just waits. And if you close your eyes...she's there when you open them.

She means it.

You and her, and going to stay here...and wait...

and all the while 'something' is happening to Tricia...and Peace knows exactly what. But you can't see anything past the face...and the bitch will not say a single more word.

So...you wait.
>>
So, I've thought about it. Here's my current vote:

No. I don't know what I was thinking. Tricia's stronger than that. We're stronger than that. We will banish peace from this place, fly to tricia's side, and help her. We must.

R...right?
>>
can we at least lie down and pace the best a lamia can.

it'll be like an extreme version of Ssen being in the waiting room while tricia is giving birth, except with lethal flavour
>>
>>24565866
Why are we waiting again. We need to help tricia now, not later.
>>
>>24565866
Yeah, screw waiting. We need to wake up *now*. Let's make with the saving.

>>24565847
>>24565862
"See, the problem with that is that I already gave my word on a conflicting promise. It involves your heads. So, no."

Then we apply all our will to getting into Tricia's mind ourselves, either in this mindscape, or by waking up first.
>>
>>24565890
If waking up or flying to tricia's mindscape doesn't work, we could always fight peace.
>>
Guys Guys Guys

what if the Nat 20 caused peace to cuntblock us and tricia was going to have a horrible time with this ritual either way?
>>
>>24565866
Honestly, I'm half wondering if Tricia is just fine and watching this, and Peace just wants to see if she can screw with us, get us to owe her a favor, *and* cause Tricia to see what we stooped to doing.

On top of that, Peace explicitly said she can do nothing to us here. So let's test the theory that we can do nothing to her. Might as well try, if the alternative is sitting here and waiting until we wake up. We need to wake up sooner, or move to Tricia's mind while still here. Waiting won't do either of those.
>>
Dammit /tg/, which is more important? Killing one stranger or keeping the love of our life from going mad?
>>
>>24565908
Yes. Yes, that's why I made my vote this way. >>24565884
T-tricia is strong. She's strong!
>>24565885

>>
>>24565925
Not being used like a tool by Peace and saving our love with are own power not Peaces.
>>
>>24565925
It's not the stranger. It's that the stranger is going to kill other people's loves of their life. They already have.

Hard decision.
>>
>>24565890
"See, the problem with that is that I already gave my word on a conflicting promise. It involves your heads. So, no."

You close your eyes...focus...put in a little prayer...and...you open your eyes and she's still there.

"I told you. You will not leave until you wake up, normally." Peace says. "I cannot prevent THAT from waking you. Until then...we wait."

You can try to force your way through Peace's will...but...well...good luck.

There's two little rag dolls on the ground. They're both of a featureless red head in a floppy hat and a white dress. One of the dolls has a well stitched face, hands, and legs. The other has crudely stitched face, and the arms and legs are just blobs in the vague shape of the appendages. The difference is that this doll is clearly pregnant. The other doll is not.

I love her, but I'm not about to cripple her just so she can bear my childe.

...and here I didn't think you could get any more sadistic. Well done.

>>24566133
If it only affects her body, I'd agree. If it's her mind, though...

Stare at the two dolls. What do the faces look like?

But on the other hand...
>>24566140
>>24566123
indeed, it's a problem much more easily worked around.
>>
>>24566147
it's simple.

It's so simple!

We'll each lend some of our marrow to a lady, and have two children made, one of each bloodline.

We'll give them the same family tattoo. And raise them as our own.

b-b-b-ut what if its a cruel test of character when pick the pretty one and then we get a citedel'd Tricia everyone else in the party had at least once, she's overdue

or even worse we get what we don't pick
>>
The other thought that crosses my mind: Which one has Tricia expressed more concern about? She's terrified of what she'll turn into.

>>
>>24566169
The "what we don't pick" is ridiculous. If it does happen, then we never had a choice because Peace would just have picked whatever it wanted in order to be a cunt. And I say we ask Peace to elaborate upon the meaning of the dolls as we closely examine them.
>>

>>
>>24566090
At the moment, I'm not torn because of the decision, I'm torn trying to figure out what the decision means. If we're talking sane versus not: sane. If we're just talking what she looks like, though, we already promised her we'd love her no matter what she looked like.
>>
>>24566090
Calling for a vote now.
A) Features doll.
B) Pregnant doll.

This is not a 'you get what you don't pick' trick or anything like that. This is a simple choice.
>>
>>24566206
Pick both dolls and love them both the same?
>>
WE can still have the kids. No, we won't be immortal anymore, but if immortality means unhappy Tricia then it gets dropped YESTERDAY.

yes. this is exactly it.

I want sane tricia. I think the non-monstrous doll is the sane one.

I want tricia to want to live.

>>24566218
On the theory that this will affect her mind, and not just her body, since that's what she was terrified of: A, and may Tricia forgive us for it.
>>
>>24566218
>B) Pregnant doll.

It was never about her features nor has it ever. What she becomes will happen. I believe this is the path leads to the sane one. Citadel demands perfect. We don't.
>>
>>24566218

>>
>>24566219
"I just...I just want Trish to be happy." You say. "Truly happy, not Citadel happy, but happy."

There's a third doll now.

The body of the doll is torn to ribbons. There is stuffing coming out, and it is a mess...but the head is intact, and there's a clear face on it. The doll has an honest smile on her face.

>>24566434
That's not where I'm imagining that one going.

I'm wondering if this is the "the ritual didn't take at all" option; she's happy, for the length of her natural lifespan.

But I have to believe that if that's the case, then that's what she'd pick given the choices.
>>
>>24566429

You don't say anything you just pick up the torn doll with the smiling face as best you can. And you hold it to your chest.

"Inconvenient." Peace says. "Dragon force, and the twistedness of a leviathan...very inconvenient."

You open your eyes.

Tricia is sitting there at the table. She's pale and shaking. She's obviously been crying, and possibly screaming, but she's alive. Oh thank the Light, she's alive.

"Ssen..." She looks at you, wide eyed. "Oh thank the Light..." She swallows. "What...what did we do?" She asks.
>>
>>24566465

Then ask her what happened from her perspective, tell her of the bag-damned darkness we just went though, and beg her forgiveness.

"It hurt...it hurt a lot...and then...then it started to happen. Then...then I thought of you." She sniffs. "Being in your coils, and our heartbeats...and...and then it stopped...but...then..." She squirms a bit in your hug. "Lemme go, Ssen. You...you need to see this."

>>
>>24566568
ie. Comedy dies.

>>24566572
Nah. Swift, sure, efficient and surgical. It's the wisest course of action. The opposite of love is not hate, but indifference, and so we simply squash the life out of Peace. We unmake her existence like the insect she is to us and live well, as it is the best revenge.
>>
>>24566506
"As long as you're okay. As long as you're okay." You say as you let go.

"Well...I...I don't know Ssen." She sighs. "I...I feel okay, and I don't...just watch." She holds out her arm. "Please don't scream." She says.

Her flesh...ripples...and now she doesn't have an arm. There are beetles, and wasps, and her silk worms, and an assortment of moths, dragonflies and butterflies. They launch off from her limb and fly around the room, doing the usual tricks that you see them do. You look back at Tricia's arm. You can see it as just a skeletal arm, held together with veins, sinew and tendon. There's no flesh. Tricia's swarm flies back to her arm, and takes nest within it. There's that ripple again and her arm returns to looking normal.

"Please, please don't scream." Tricia says, looking at your face. "Please...here..." She takes your hand in her...hands...they feel like they always do but now...you can't help but imagine all those little things around bone fingers.

She puts your hand on her chest. Again, you try not to thing about what you're actually touching. Then you feel it. Her heartbeat. It's there. Just the same as always, that rhythm you'd know anyway for all the nights you've been so close to it.

"That's still there..." She says. "And I'm still here..." She's crying. "And my face is still...me...you have no idea how it hurt...how it felt to have my own flesh be liquifying...ripping apart or turning hard, and it reaching into my head...and then they came. They...they took the bad stuff away, and they're staying in its place. I'm me...I'm still me...just...oh please don't scream Ssen. Please don't scream!"

"So so so, you're made of bugs? Because that's..sweet nurturing light, d-did the ritual d-do that to you?"

"No." She looks around. "I think...well, yes I think the Ritual jumpstarted the...the process. Ugh, it was horrible. I could feel myself...pupating..." She shivers. And you were out cold and the pain...and then...I thought about you, and I thought what would you do...or what would a Dragon do." She looks at her limbs. "So, I called out to them, all of them. Any that I could summon and all that would answer...you really needed to put better bug protection in here. Or not." She grins. "And they came, and I ordered them...ORDERED them...to help me stay me...for you, and me." She looks at her body. "So...they did the only thing they could. They...got rid of the flesh that was hurting me. Then I demanded that they give me something to replace what I had so kindly given them and..." She gestures to herself. "Voila. I...I know I should be more upset...but...I like this." She smiles. "I like being me but being...more. Please don't be upset, or scream."

You smile and blink through the tears. "Didn't I just get through saying a few minutes and one unconscious soul-rending experience ago that I didn't care what you looked like, and that you'd never be a monster? Do you expect me to take that back now? Because I won't, and I won't scream."

You hold up a figure.

"I can't promise I won't scream our love from the rooftops.

It's a very real possibility."

Tiricia hugs you and kisses you. Her tongue is still hers...and as the night goes on you find that Tricia has perfect control over her 'skin.' Also, that...well...she's yours now. Her heartbeat, her breath, her smile, it belongs to you, and she owns a bit of you too as well. You spend the night together in peace...and when you find her, the amount of retribution you will visit upon her will be a legend unto itself. But that happy image is for later. For now, rest.

unless its magic, if she keeps the bug skin I assume it works exactly like regular skin, its only if the bugs split off that they are vulnerable to the gas, if they even are.
>>
>>24566769
I enjoy it this way, being on GMT means that I get to join in with the first bit of the thread, then it's still around when I wake up.
>>
>>24566778
Gotta make readers feel that suspense and rage

I wonder if they'll be a way to archive in the future that loads posts timed from the OP's starting time to the end...
>>
>>24566757
She's not just strong, she's a Wasp-Dragon.

We should start calling her our little Dragonfly now.
>>
>>24566751
Somehow, "Thank you" doesn't quite cut it. New high and new low, all in the same thread.

>>24566757
Finding that out is the second thing we need to do next time.

The first being to tell Tricia what happened, because we didn't yet.

>>24566794
We absolutely should.
>>
So. I just realized something.

We can slip naughty things into tricia's person while her bugs are out.

This will increase our options in bed exponentially
>>
>>24566794
hnnng
>>
>>24566794
It's official. She's now our little dragonfly.

She has no say in the matter. That is her new nickname.

Nobody else may use it but us.
>>
>>24566794
Yes.

I imagine she got a nice power boost with her bugs out of this too.
>>
Hey guys, know what I just realized? A whole bunch of her body is made up of flying creatures.

She... has wings. Let's rub it in.
>>
>>24566816
Yeah, it's hard to imagine that she doesn't have near-total control over them at this point.
>>
>>24566800
So to do for next thread:
>Tell Tricia what happened
>Find out changes to our own body
>gotta get tricia to test the limits of her body
>break the news to the party
>speculate who comedy is

meta but
> figure out if we shared "that list" with isen and co. otherwise, send messenger to Barnes to do so.
> figure if theres anyone else we should ask about those names for
> See if echo would be willing to tell us what thought other choices would have wrought, now or after its all over

good?
>>
>>24566825
she probably has control over her own, yeah. but hell if I'm letting her use her own precious body parts as an away-swarm.

She'll have to wrangle bugs like always to gain outside-of-body bugs. And I insist she does. Please don't use your bodyswarm in dangerous situations, tricia. Please. Those are your HPs.
>>
>>24566827
you forget:

>Shout our love from the rooftops
>>
>>24566827
All of the above on both counts, except for testing Tricia; she may want to do that or she may not, but we shouldn't suggest it.
>>
>>24566827
also
>dote on Tricia
because Ssen got the scare of her life (or second at least behind the bag incident, but probably close) and probably start to get a move on again and progress the plot, dramatae won't wait for us.
>>
YOU HAVE ALTERED THE FUTURE /tg/!

Instead of crying when she sees bees... grandmaster Ssen smiles when she sees dragonflies.
>>
>>24566839
we lost our chance

the only appropriate time to do what is while everyone is sleeping

so we can both make a fool of our selves AND embarrass tricia
>>
>>24566827
Doesn't matter what our other choices would have been. Tricia is happy, therefore we made the absolute right choice. It is known.

Also we know who Comedy is. It's Thistleblossom. Which leads me to speculate that the ancient scandal of TB's disappearance from the Fey court was her running away with her lover, the daughter of The Dragon who was of Shadow.
>>
>>24566842
>because Ssen got the scare of her life (or second at least behind the bag incident, but probably close)

Remember that Tricia was one of the big reasons the bag incident was so traumatic.

This one trumps bags in every possible way. After we tell Tricia, I don't think either she or Ssen will be able to look at a doll without remembering this.
>>
>>24566864
We don't know for sure that it's Thistleblossom; that's just by far the most likely candidate at the moment.
>>
>>24566864
You know what this could mean.

Robin's disappearance, the Dramatae plan.

Thistleblossom is going to return to lead the Fae Court against Citadel.
>>
>>24566864
>lover, the daughter of the dragon who was of shadow
>they ran away from all this to start a new world. A better world. Citadel.
Fuuuuck.
>>24566858
It's not too late! Echo said we were resting for the night! Which means people are sleeping!

We can still wake them up with our shouting.
>>
>>24566875
Or possibly to take over the Fae Court to make them allies and absorb them into Citadel.

One or the other.
>>
>>24566841
can we at least ask if she can make cute little wings

little tinkerbell cute wings?

And then Ssen's head rushes to think of all the different moth, butterfly, cicada and any other bug she can think of before tricia finds she can only form Dragonfly wings
>>
>>24566875
Could be that Ryan and Jessie are the new Lightbringers.
>>
>>24566842
>>24566865

>because Ssen got the scare of her life (or second at least behind the bag incident, but probably close)

Oh my god. I just realized, this was the second time we thought we seriously hurt Tricia.
>>
>>24566887
>>24566865
the worst moments in Ssen's life have been when Ssen hurt or could have hurt Tricia.

It's going to be a real whopper when Tricia has a heart attack one day out of the blue.
>>
>>24566886
Doesn't really fit the mould. Not sure whether they have a little village to be destroyed.

Plus, a love interest girl with a known history of necrophilia enthusiasm might damage her pure maiden rep.

Possible though.
>>
>>24566887
And this time knowingly, and with an option to do otherwise. It would only have cost Ssen's soul, Comedy's lack of death, and possibly the fate of the world.
>>
>>24566864
is there any basis for this? as much as I love yuri in more story this seems a little too farfetched

.. also how do we know comedy is thistleblossom for sure? I remember a tidbit about one of the dramatae bitchin about their nephew or something, but I might be remembering wrong.

and food for thought, you think tragedy if someone we know?
>>
>>24566887
We are the most tragic Paladin. We save the lives of hundreds, even going out of our way for the wicked who are only barely redeemable. Yet we're a mortal threat to the one we love most.
>>
>>24566908
Ssen's life has been a horrible chain of Tragedy and barely-avoided Tragedy, and the act of making the best of it.

Mothers killed? Make the best of it. Best friend bitten and dad things you might not have a soul? Make the best of it. Have to kill millions via starvation to allow time to continue passing and break the continuous stasis? make the best of it.
>>
>>24566903
If there isnt sobbing on Ssen's part as she tells Tricia about that part i will be a bit disappointed. sure Ssen is strong and rather resilient to emotional damage, but nowhere near THAT strong.

double so because we 'knew' that she would be hurt if we refused the offer that Peace gave us.

b-b-but I'm curious! so curious I can't stop thinking about it!

I can't stop speculating about what could have been if when we made the deal and what our party thought, what would have happened if we chose to owe a favor and it ended up screwing us in the long run, if we chose the pregnant doll and tricia was all mangled and buggy except for her lower body, if we picked the pretty faceless doll and she ended crying to us that she was sterile and the sexytime mood was ruined, what peace could have said

all of it!

I can't stop thinking about it until echo can put my curiosity to rest!
>>
>>24566905
We don't have any basis to believe Comedy and Peace have a relationship, other than that the former saved the latter's life.

We don't know for sure that she's Thistleblossom; that's just the only lead we have evidence for.

Currently reading the archives for scenes with the Dramatae rather than sleeping, because I'm insane.

So, Comedy has been around longer than Tragedy:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23791319/#p23796168
>"It isn't...the most familiar scenario." Tragedy says.
>
>"It has been done before. I was there, your predecessor had doubts. It all worked. Continuity was completed." Comedy says. "Peace is never wrong."
>
>"He was wrong about using the Ghouls." Tragedy says.
>
>"That was Rage's mistake. We never should have allowed him. He was not born inside Her, he questioned us." Comedy says.
>
>"We asked him to join, because he questioned us." Tragedy says. "To make sure that mistakes don't happen. Now, there is this," Tragedy gestures to the pair. "And She is Upset."
>
>"This is fixed. I will stay and ensure it." Comedy says. "As for what has upset Her...Peace is dealing with it."
>
>"In person?"
>
>"Peace sees it as penance."
>
>"Peace is never wrong." Tragedy says with a sigh. "What...what happened to my predecessor after that scenario that you mentioned happened before?"
>
>"He had doubts."
>
>"And?"
>
>"And then we located you."
>>
>>24566944
Ssen may be reaching her weight bearing threshhold.

Her actions become more erratic, and she has a tougher time with all moral decisions.
>>
>>24566976
>>"That was Rage's mistake. We never should have allowed him. He was not born inside Her, he questioned us." Comedy says.

So that means that Comedy probably isn't Thistleblossom if I'm reading this right.

Because it suggests that both Comedy and Tragedy were born inside Citadel.
>>
So, uh, tricia

How will this affect, er, well... our nightlife?
>>
>>24566952
And:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24158237/#p24165060
> "Personal issues don't count." Comedy says. "I didn't bitch about my baby Donnie!"

Which we guessed meant Donovan.
>>
>>24567003
Well, considering that Ssen and Tricia just spent the night together, not at all seems to be the answer.
>>
>>24567011
speaking of, I've been meaning to free him from prison for a while.

Say what you will about his crimes against his own men and peri, he was totally spot-on about citadel being wrong.
>>
>>24567024
We really shouldn't. That would be a massive betrayal of Peri just to free a deranged terrorist.
>>
>>24567024
...and that matters what, exactly, regarding his many other crimes, most importantly the one against Peri?
>>
>>24567021
well, we might be just resting next to each other.

Not EVERY instance of sleeping together actually means doing anything llleeeewd.
>>
>>24567024
no, we are not freeing the sick bastard that purposefully made our friend barren.
>>
>>24567038
>implying there wasn't some steamy hand-holding action.
>>
>>24567033
it matters about enough to get him knocked down from interrogation maximum sentence followed by hangman to middling sentence and work punishment.

Levels of punishment.
>>
>>24567038
>implying there wasn't copious amounts of filthy cuddling
>>
>>24567044
>middling sentence and work punishment
Guy's a mass-murdering terrorist with a racial supremacy agenda who forcibly made one of Ssen's best friends barren.

He deserves what he's getting.

>>
>>24567077
Eh, fair enough I suppose. I hope you don't get all pissy when I'm trying to extort demands from the fey court though.

Terrorists or not, they dislike citadel and have a keen connection to the wilderness, things which are useful to me for numerous reasons militarily AND agriculturally.
>>
>>24567132
From the way Robin talks I would be surprised if they had any useful information. I'm not sure we want their help militarily either. Remember the theory that the fey resistance is the product of another land spirit.
>>
>>24567165
yes. I want at that land spirit.

The bear's land spirit has been EXTREMELY helpful, if a bit... dead.
>>
>>24567188
There was no mention of the bear tribe having a land spirit. So far the only ones we know for sure exist are citidel, the shadow dragon, and the fifth
>>
>>24567213
I think it was mentioned before that the Bear Spirit was a very minor spirit, which sadly discovered very quickly that it was punching outside its weight class when Citadel came calling.
>>
>>24567438
Bear Spirit: Ethereal wallflower. The poor thing.

Citadel is the hot bitch who puts out and has the IQ of a half-eaten sandwich.
