No, dad, no! It's time for some VALKYRIAN MERCS QUEST!

ARCHIVE:http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24577297/
PASTEBIN: http://pastebin.com/iT0BQ78y

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the fledgling mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ. In addition to fighting Imps for money and vengeance, you have your own private mission to hunt down Karla, your former fiance who sided with the Imperials and destroyed your home.

You've recently arrived in the Federation nation of Albion to help defend it against a possible amphibious attack. However, your boots barely hit the deck before you were assigned a mission to break up a spy ring. However, through a chain of extraordinary events, you not only smashed the spy ring apart, but also managed to capture an Imperial u-boat (mostly) intact. After a massive victory party that left you with a headsplitting wakeup call, you met with the mysterious and totally trustworthy Colonel Lynch of the Albion Intelligence service. He's agreed to help pay for repairs and maintenance of the u-boat in return for being able analyze it.

You were then given a mission to raid suspected Imperial spy weapon caches. Your raid was successful, but your singleminded obsession to get intel that might tell you of Karla's whereabouts nearly got you killed. You survived with light injuries thanks to your adjutant/best friend/surrogate sister Samantha. However, your recklessness has succeeded in pissing her off, and she has been actively avoiding you ever since you got back from that mission. You managed to make amends with her, and you even managed to recruit a new member in your squad!

Three days have passed since you've met the new captain for the Vergeltung, your captured U-boat. As expected, Colonel Lynch has already decided to send you out on a "critical" mission, despite your u-boat crew not having nearly enough experience operating it. Such is life as a mercenary.

Truth be told, riding in the Vergeltung had its ups and downs. On the bright side, the u-boat wasn't constantly being rocked by waves and rough seas like normal boats were. On the downside, there was the tight, closed spaces promoting crippling claustrophobia, which if you didn't have before you were sure to pick up at some point during this trip.

Oh yeah, and being dozens of meters underwater with the risk of the whole machine imploding on itself at any second. You'd rather brave machine gun fire than deal with that.

"You're sure you can handle this?" You ask Captain Davos for what is possibly the fiftieth time.

To your credit, Captain Davos seems like one of the most patient and stoic men ever to exist in Europa. If he was being annoyed by your questions, he was clearly hiding it very well.

"As I've said before, I know these waters like the back of my hand, both on the surface and below. If anything goes wrong, it'll be from the Imperials. Either way, we should be reaching the target area soon."

Nodding, you exit the bridge and decide to...

>It looks like we have a tie...

In your desperate bid to find something to distract yourself from the knowledge of being trapped in a steel tube under millions of tons of water, you decide to track down Elizabeth. If you recall correctly, she's been spending most of her time in the u-boat's communications room. It shouldn't be too hard to track her down.

After getting lost once or twice, you finally manage to meander and squeeze your way to the communications room near the rear of the u-boat.

"Oh, Captain, how nice to see you!" Elizabeth spins around her seat. "Did you want to see the latest mission details first, or discuss that private matter we talked about earlier?"

The Vergeltung is about twice the size of a German U-boat, with four torpedo tubes and one deck gun (which is actually the tank). It's mostly been modified to covertly insert troops behind enemy lines, so the space that would normally be dedicated to extra weapons and ammo is instead used for troop storage. Other than that it's a standard u-boat that goes underwater, navigates by sonar, etc.

"Lets get the mission details sorted out first." You say.

"Alright." Elizabeth nods as she pulls out a sealed folder. "It was about time to crack this thing open anyways."

Tearing of the sealed top, you pull out several pictures and photos and examine them closely.

According to Lynch's investigations, "The Crag" that the Imperial spies had been referring to is possibly Fort Mansell, an old EWI seafort literally built on a rock in the middle of the ocean. Ironically, it was originally meant to serve as an early warning system for approaching Imperial fleets, but was decommissioned in the interwar period due to a shrinking defense budget. Apparently, Lynch fears that the Crag is being used as a staging point for Imperial infiltration forces. Basically, the objectives were to scout out the Crag and "engage targets at your discretion".

"So... number of enemies?"

"Unknown."

"Is the fort fully functional?"

"Unknown."

"Do we know the internal layout?"

"Unknown."

"Typical." You sigh. "How about that other matter?"

"Well..." Elizabeth turns her head side to side to see if anybody is listening in. Fortunately, since this was the comms room, everybody was too buys concentrating on their own tasks to give you two any notice. "From what I've gleaned from Lynch's notes, it seems like there's a high possibility that there's a Belkan Knight accompanying the Imperial invasion fleet, which is a pretty big deal because Belkan Knights have been nothing but a headache for the Federation. It also seems like you've got some sort of connection to the Belkan Knights as well, seeing as how one of the prisoners participated in the Belkan-led raid on your family estate."

CODEX ENTRY UNLOCKED

Sir Detlef Fliesher, the "Red Swallow."

Born in a prominent Belkan noble family with a long, proud knightly tradition, Sir Fliesher seemed destined to become the next Grand Master of the Belkan Knights and raised as such. As a result, he was nearly peerless in the arts of war and politics. However, I say "nearly" due his defeat in an honor duel against Princess Karla Hohenzollern, his only recorded loss which resulted in Princess Hohenzollern taking the position of Grand Master instead. Due to his defeat, Sir Fleisher has pledged his eternal loyalty to the princess, and has fought in her name ever since.

Sir Fleisher is known for his limitless pride and arrogance, often ignoring sound tactical and strategic advice in his singleminded drive to defeat his foes. He typically considers non-nobles as subhuman and not worth his time, and he absolutely HATES mercenaries, as he cannot fathom somebody fighting for money.

Typically pride would be his greatest weakness, as he usually unwilling to admit defeat and would rather destroy his forces in a suicidal move than retreat or surrender. However, through sheer brute force and fighting ability, he has managed to turn it into his strength, considering how many times he's overextended his lines and gotten surrounded by Federation forces, only to smash them apart when they try to finish him off.

He is noticeable in battle by driving a tank with its front painted bright red.

I'd prefer to keep the name Karla out of it, make this into a long term game, not a short term one.

"Well, I do believe I owe you some more information for that, Elizabeth." You nod. "It was not the Red Swallow who attacked my home, in fact I was once on good terms with my attacker."

"Okay, you win!" You sigh, lowering your voice to a whisper. "I'm fighting because I'm trying to track down Karla Hohenzollern. She's my ex-fiance, and the one that led the attack on my home."

"I plan on seducing her to our side as a double agent and using her connections to conquer the Empire as my own" You say with the straightest possible face you can manage.

Elizabeth literally falls out of her seat laughing, causing the rest of the comm crew to turn and look at what is going on. Seeing as how it is the resident spy doing the laughing, they quickly turn back to their radios and pretend not to notice anything.

After a few more seconds, Elizabeth finally recovers her composure, getting back up on her seat and straightening out her beret.

"I'm really REALLY sorry about. I just never heard anything so preposterous before!"

"Yeah..." You nod. "Anyways, I honestly have no clue what I'm going to do when I find her. I don't know if I love her, hate her, or feel a little bit of both."

"That is so utterly tragic, romantic, and just a tad creepy. I love it!" Elizabeth grins. "I think it's pretty cool you've got something to fight for so badly. Rest assured, I'll do everything I can to make sure you get the closure you need."

"Elizabeth, you stay back here and act as support. I need someone I can trust keep an eye on enemy comms."

"Got it, boss." Elizabeth nods.

You then make your way to the staging point, one of the top hatches meant for disembarking troops.Your squad is already assembled and geared up, along with Jack's squad.

You nod and you and your team pile into the first raft. The ride seems long and arduous, but slowly and surely you get closer and closer to the Crag. The Vergeltung disappears in the gloom and fog, and the Crag becomes clearer and clearer to see. Like the tower it supports, the the island is full of sharp and jagged rocks, limiting potential landing points.

"I see we've got two potential landing points." Tarin whispers. "There's one at the edge of the island, and one at the base of the tower."

"We'd be less likely to be spotted if we land on the farther landing zone, but we can save a lot of time landing at the base, especially if we want to get this done before sunrise." Sam points out.

"We'll land on the edge of the island." You declare."We could use the exercise."

Your squad laughs softly as you row towards a soft patch of sand. Fortunately, it doesn't appear as if anybody has set foot on this beach in ages, given how pristine it looks. Looking up at the Crag, the tower remains largely dark, only illuminated by the sparse moonlight. There are few lights on here and there, and you believe you see some movement on the higher parts of the tower, but nothing extraordinary.

You light the flare in order to signal Jack, making sure the light can't be seen from the tower.

The approach is quiet, almost too quiet, but you don't encounter any major resistance. By the time you reach the base of the tower, you catch sight of Jack's boat slowly rowing in, having also successfully eluded notice.

"Alright, there's two ways up." Jack says. "We can either breach the door, which is the easy way in, but it risks us being detected, or we can try and scale the Crag from the outside. Insanely dangerous, but we're sure to get the drop on them. Or we could always just split up and do a combination of both."

You give the door a soft push, and much your, and everybody else's amazement, it swings open effortlessly.

"Oh hey I think we found our way in." You say.

"You've gotta be kidding me." Sam gapes.

"Devil's luck." Jack mutters, shacking his head.

Inside, the Crag is dark, gloomy, and moist, as expected of being on a tiny island. There's not signs of any guards anywhere. You slowly creep your way up the flights of stairs one by one.

You're nearly at the top when you notice that there's actually lights on now. You motion for your squad to exercise caution. You then glance up to see a rusted sign with the words "CONTROL ROOM" hanging over the doorway.

Tarin, Brillant, and Jack creep forward, taking positions on either side of the door. Tarin takes a quick glance in as well as Jack.

"I see three people. Looks like they're operating radio equipment." Tarin whispers.

"Seems right. I think these are the only people in this tower." Jack concurs.

Of course, Tarin takes out her target with a absolute precision and ruthlessness, sliding her knife across her target's carotid artery like cutting a cake. Jack lets loose with his bow, striking dead center on the back of his target's skull and sending his head crashing through the window. The third man, however, doesn't go down so easily. It takes the combined efforts of Brillant and Jack's men to take him down before an elbow strike to the neck silences him for good.

"Well, I guess that's mission accomplished." Jack smiles. "Lets bag and tag everything and get out of here."

"Um, sir?" Brillant looks out the window. "You really need to see this."

"What you talking about? We're in the middle of the ocean. What can be out there?"

"Sir, you REALLY NEED TO SEE THIS."

You walk over to where Brillant is standing and look out the window and your eyes widen in surprise.

Your next words are a jumble of gibberish as you try and figure out what to say, except your brain is too terrified to be capable of rational thought. You're almost tempted to run out of the room screaming when Sam socks you in the face, snapping you back to your senses.

"Thank you, Sam." You gasp.

"Don't mention it."

"So what's the plan?" Jack asks. "Do we even have a plan?"

In the darkest depths of your mind that remained untouched by PANIC, a crazy, no INSANE plan begins to bud and you start to laugh manically.

"I think you hit him too hard." Heloise frowns.

"Or not hard enough." Tarin deadpans.

"Think I should smack him again?" Sam asks.

"Guys, guys, wait! This is an opportunity! The Imps have absolutely no idea we're here! We've got a u-boat, some of the best damn soldiers this side of Europa, and enough crazy to get us the damn Moon if wanted! We can wreck this invasion fleet before it even gets moving!"

"That's just crazy enough to work!" Jack laughs. "I like that plan!"

"I don't know if have enough firepower to sink the WHOLE fleet, but we definitely do some damage." Alek points out.

"Lets see here." Jack glances at the fleet. "There's some targets we can focus on. If we take out their minesweepers, they'll have no way to get rid of our protective minefields. They'll either have to go around or risk plowing straight through them, which would buy us time or seriously damage their fleet, which is a win win. We can take out their troop transports, so they can't land troops on the beaches. We can take out their cruisers and destroyers so they won't get close fire support, or..."

Jack points to what is easily the largest ship in the fleet. A massive battlship with Imperial flags and emblems slathered all over it.

"If my memory serves me right, that's the Lion of the Empire, the jewel of the Imperial Fleet. If we can take THAT out, it'll be a serious blow their morale."

"Let's take out the Lion." You say. "Nothing to demoralize an army like sinking their biggest ship."

"Ballsy motherfucker you are!" Jack whistles.

"Hey, if you didn't notice, the Lion is literally in the middle of their fleet. How are we going to reach it?" Sam asks.

"That's why we need a distraction." You say. You then activate your radio. "Elizabeth, can you hear me?"

"Loud and clear, Captain. What can I help you with?"

"Elizabeth, this isn't just a smuggling route we're dealing with, it's the whole goddamn Imperial invasion fleet. Hundreds of ships, at least."

"Oh-oh dear..."

"Focus, Elizabeth! We got a chance to hit them in the gut, but I need your help. We've taken their comms room, so we've got codes, ciphers, frequencies, everything. You think you can crack their comms?"

"Simple enough."

"Good. And do the Imperials have any good anti-u-boat strategies?"

"Actually not. The Federation hasn't figured out how to produce u-boats, and they probably don't know we've managed to capture one intact, so they'd be woefully unprepared for such an attack."

"Good. Does the Crag have any kind of defenses?"

"Just some old coastal defense batteries. It's been so long, I don't even know if they're operational... Do you have a plan?"

>Any plans? You are free to ask opinions from your squad, as well.
>>
We don't have the crew to operate a battleship and a U-boat, and if we take the Lion we'll just get wasted by the rest of their fleet and die.
>>
>>24636197
Yeah, let's just ram the lion.
>>
If Captain Davos and his crew is skilled enough we can take one well place shot with a magnetic torpedo and crack the fuckers keel. Not man ships can live through that. In fact can.

>>
>>24636257

And please, no more of that board the Lion bullshit.
>>
>>24636245
Go to the U-boat, impersonate the Crag crew and tell the fleet they're under a massive assault. Ask for reinforcments. While the shit stirs, sneak around, hit the Lion with everything we've got and skedaddle.
>>
>>24636245
Start shelling the transports from the coast, they'll move away and their combat ships will move closer to shore to target us, the Lion and minesweepers likely somewhere in between, then the sub can come up under tyhe lion and sink it from below and opposite their warships, as well as hitting anything else available after the Lion is sunk.

This situation is why we should have bought C6 before the mission.
>>
>>24636245
Have Jack's men operate the batteries to draw the troops attention. Then after a set amount of time have them rig them to explode and have them join up with the boat.
While all this is happening Jager's squad will be getting positioned amongst the area around the tower, snipers on top troopers on the bottom. The tank is our backup choice for taking out the boat if the torpedoes don't work.

>>
>>24636310

>>24636326

I mean really, if torpedoes don't work, the C4 is just going to be dead weight at that point.
>>
>>24636330
actually quite possible, the battleship had a major limitation in that it couldn't hit anything too close due to the minimum barrel depression of their guns.
>>
>>24636344
You know how thick most battleships armor plating is? There is no way the 75mm on that tank will pen it.
>>
>>24636344

Good luck getting though that armor bro.
>>
>>24636352
Uhh, blocks of C4 are what Seals used to sink ships all the goddamn time, just swim up to them, place them on a fuse or signal detonation, swim to the next and repeat.

Nearly impossible to detect, and quite effective.
>>
Ask squad opinions obviously.

Unless given a better alternative, I'd suggest setting an explosive of some sort in the Crag, a magazine or something if possible. Then hightail it to the U-boat. When the magazine goes up, the fleet will likely be distracted by the flaming ruin of their forward base. Use this distraction to get the U-boat close to the Lion. Then, if the Lion is big enough to be taken down with our limited supply of torpedoes alone, do so. This will likely not be enough, so we'll have to sneak aboard and place timed explosives in the engine room and magazines. Exfiltrate back onto the U-boat, hit it with as many torpedoes as we can after the charges go off, then GTFO.

Then proclaim glory and vengeance for HOUSE STURMFUHRER over the radio of course.
>>
This means boarding is more plausible.
>>
>>24636336
Not if they use only the guns away from where the pick up is expected.
>>
>>24636355

This amounts to pretty much nothing considering we can do jack and shit to it in return.

Not to mention that even if it can't just get into a better firing position, it still has its escort fleet.
>>
>>24636344
Which will only be feasible if we hit it in the thinner dorsal armor... which none of our weapons can target. To put it bluntly, if torpedoes, our dedicated anti-ship weapon, don't sink this bitch it's not going down.
>>
>>24636379

Do we have scuba gear?

Are these ships not armored to the fucking gills like modern ships are?

If not, that C4 is completely useless.

>>24636425

STATIONARY ships. It's a bit goddamn hard to place charges on the ship that's moving at 12+knots, has a hull covered in barnacles to obstruct your placement and will fucking cut you to pieces with it's propeller if you get caught in the current.

That said, we should keep it in mind for an op if we're unable to keep them from making a landing, since the fleet will have to take firing positions to support them.
>>
>>24636400

Sam: Well, if you want my opinion, if we want to maximize damage, we use Elizabeth to call in some of their ships closer to the Crag and use our own weapons and the coastal batteries to ambush them. Elizabeth then cuts off their comms so they can't communicate, and Davos hits the Lion with the Vergeltung.

Tarin: I saw we go with maximum stealth. We use the u-boat to insert close to the Lion, plant ragnite charges on the waterline, and bug out. Quick and quiet.

Heloise: Wait, that Sir Whatshisname is with the fleet, right? Well, he's gotta be on that big ship, then, so can't we just find a way to lure in him closer...?

Alek:I think we should just blow up their weaker ships and retreat, honestly...
>>
>>24636452

You realise that we're not trained SEALs right? Or that they're a fair bit off the coast, if being in the middle of the fleet is any indication. Or that the things could fucking move at any time.

Or Jesus, even my point about being armored to the fucking gills, does the concept of reading comprehension not occur to you? If our torps can't crack it, OUR DEDICATED ANTI-SHIP WEAPONS, then that piddly C4 is going to do jacl.

How about we tell the flag ship that the ships surrounding him are traitors to the imps, and then cut communications sporadically? That should guarantee some kill.

Not him, but it's not the explosive force that cracks keels, it's the bubble of air they cause. Removing the support of water buoyancy from underneath a ship's keel will cause it to crack itself in half under its own weight. Armor isn't that much of an issue.

>>
>>24636584
You've got a u-boat, which can escape detection pretty quickly. Plus, the Imps never had to actually FIND one in combat conditions, which helps the Vergeltung greatly. It's assumed that you'll use the rafts to get off the island, using the Crag to shield your escape, and you rendezvous with the Vergeltung later.

Or I guess you could always just jump into the Vergeltung ahead of time, but then you lose the Crag as a tactical asset.

I'm not quite sure about that specific speach, but I do like the idea of letting them know it was the Demons under the command of Jager Sturmfuhrer every time we crush them like we're about to do.

Get our names spoken of across the Empire, and soon its enemies will know our names as well, seeking to hire us, and great demand vs low supply means a better pay grade.

Though they're usually used against lightly armored merchant ships, torpedoes are really damn potent. A lucky shot could mess up a battleship of the Lion's caliber, while a accurate spread is almost guaranteed to wreck it. Nobody's ever actually tested it though because it's always been assumed nothing could get close enough to the Lion for an accurate torpedo attack.

The Vergeltung currently has 4 forward facing tubes with three torpedoes each.

I fully support killing the battleship. It is king of teh seas, as there is no Aircraft Carrier. Guess what else a Battleship is good at? Supporting a Naval Landing. This is the perfect time to strike a very very nasty blow to the Imperial Fleet.
>>
In this case, I'd compromise between Sam and Tarin's plans. Get back to the U-boat, leave Jack and his crew on the guns. Plant the charges on the Lion, then pull the ruse with the Crag, draw the ships in to get a clear shot at the Lion, then have the coastal guns open up to provide a distraction. Blow the charges and fire the torpedoes. Between the two of them, the Lion's guaranteed to sink. Ex filtrate with Jack's crew and proclaim vengeance for Housr Sturmfuhrer.

They are magnetic. In terms of u-boat and tank tech, the Imps are light years ahead of the Federation.

In comparison, the Lion would actually barely be able to match the best Albion battleship.

"Jack, you and your men will man the cannons. Elizabeth will lure some ships in with her little siren song and you'll blast them. My team will be on standby in case the Imps start landing troops on the island. Once the fleet is properly distracted, the Vergeltung will swoop in and take out the Lion."

"Sounds simple enough." Tarin shrugs.

TAKE OUT THE RUDDERS. Damaged or destroyed rudders means none of the ships can do anything other than turn circles! The nearest drydock is very far away and there is no way you can jury rig something that important. Especially on a ship of the Lion's size.

Destroy all of the rudders using charges and torpedoes, and this fleet is going nowhere.

Fortunately for Heloise, she doesn't have to do too much work to get the coastal batteries working again. Just cleaning off some of the rust and rewiring the ruined electrical system. However, the guns themselves are relatively undamaged and the few shells that were left behind were stored properly.

"Okay, I managed to convince the Imps that the Crag was suffering from electrical problems. They're sending in several transports to check things out. Once I hear the batteries go off I'm jamming all their comms."

You nod and look down at the beach. You and your squad have taken positions overlooking the Imperial side of the island while Heloise and Jack's squad remain inside to man the guns. In the darkness, you can see four transport ships slowly lumber their way to shore.

I don't think you fully understand the implications. Not only would they be irritated, but they would be STRANDED. A ship can't go anywhere without a rudder, and it's not something you can easily fix without a drydock, if at all.

If we mobility kill half of their fleet here, not only would the invasion be halted but the only options they have are to abandon the ships, or tow them home at a speed that would make it really easy for the Albion navy to catch them.

Unfortunately for the third ship, trying to turn slows it down and makes it an even easier target. It takes a direct hit and explodes as well.

Unfortunately, the last ship speeds up and manages to dodge the shots and reach the beach, which is too close to the coastal batteries for them to depress. You can see dozens of Imperial troops pouring out.

Meanwhile, on the seas, the anchored ships begin making emergency maneuvers. However, with Elizabeth jamming their radios, they can't coordinate their movements and the once pristine formation is immediately turned into a chaotic frenzy. You see some ships ramming into others in the darkness.

>>
>>24637483
Well I find it hard to imagine how else they would find the mines. Sonar actually appeared fairly early in WW2. It wasn't very effective for a while because of it's very limited deployment and poorly trained crews.

There was actually a surprising level of tech that went into submarine warfare. At one point Germany was using acoustic guided torpedoes that would home in on the noisiest part of a ship (the prop). This was a huge surprise for the Allied fleets because they would sink destroyers with them and destroyers actively manoeuvring were normally too fast and agile to be attacked that way.

>>24637506
Hey chill out man I was making an example, stop taking things so literally. Mobility kill half of the enemy fleet, and the other half would be forced to tow it home or abandon it. In our particular situation this would be logistically impossible, but it's still a sound strategy we could apply on a smaller scale.

And rudder damage is no joke. It's how the Bismarck was destroyed. You know, the other OTHER "imperial" battleship.

I was operating under the assumption this was a smaller landing with maybe a few score ships. Not a goddamn reenactment of Normandy with us as the Germans, except without any of the advantages of pimping coats and Rommel.

FedInt had its head in the sand clearly. Going 'No way the Imps can pull something like this off.'

>>24637702
NO. The Bismarck was sunk by being goddamn pounded by British guns and planes while her rudder was disabled and no other German ships could reach her. A mobility kill does not automatically imply a removal of combat potential, especially not when they're in the middle of a goddamn invasion fleet.
>>
>>24637702

>>
>>24637746
If the rudder hadn't been damaged the ship would have escaped. Hence mobility KILL. The ship would have remained dead in the water until the crew starved to death unless the Brits or a rescue party hadn't showed up.

>>24637781
The last documentary I watched about the Bismarck came to the conclusion that it was probably the scuttling that did her in. The surviving crew know that the order was given. And the damage on the sunken wreck would suggest that most of the British shells were skipping off of the water and impacting the ship above the waterline.

That's just the best guess of course. No one knows for sure.

Four torpedoes lance out toward the Lion. In the darkness, nobody sees the torpedoes approach until it is too late. Unfortunately, two torpedoes pass too low under the ship and fail to detonate. However, the other two score solid hits slamming the hull and sending shockwaves rippling across it. Captain Davos frowns as he looks through the periscope. He can already tell that three of the torpedoes were off target. Again, only one hits. However, the last hit proves to be the straw to break that breaks the Lion's back. With so many holes in its port side, the battleship finally tips over and capsizes.

"She's sunk! We've sunk the Lion!" Davos yells happily, in quite possibly is the one and only time he ever showed any serious emotion in his life.

Realizing what's happened, the crew begins to cheer as well. The Lion was a particularly hated ship among Albionese.

"Alright, quiet down. Helm, dive to thirty meters and get us out of here. It's a goddamn miracle the Imps haven't spotted us yet and I don't want to push our luck."

Meanwhile, you and Jack's team are cheering as well. Though it's quite sad that you weren't able to personally see it, you're glad that the Crag was there to shield you from the the fleet's return fire, which would have really sucked if they managed to get a bead on you.

It takes several more long hours for the Vergeltung to clear the fleet, circle around, and rendezvous. However, you're met with praise and applause. Despite Davos having done the actual sinking, it seems everybody considers you just as responsible for it.

"Elizabeth, you still have control over the Imp's comms, right?"

Needs more arrogance. We really want to rub this in.

Heya red swallow tell Karla that JAGER STURMFUHRER said hello.
>>

>"Gentlemen."
>>
>>24638672
I find short and sweet to be the best. All in a sing-song voice.
>>
>>24638652
Change that to 'the Demons of Randriz," and you have my vote.
>>
>>24638624
Of course we get credit for sinking the ship, we're in command of the taskforce, Captain Davis also gets the credit as the captain of the ship.

Ship sinkings are funny like that.
>>
>>24638688
This.
>>
>>24638624
This is Jager Sturmfürer of the mercanary warship Vergeltung and this is the best moment of my enire life
>>
>>24638688
I would have written that but I couldn't remember the full name and couldn't be arsed to look it up.
>>
>>24638699
Okay. That got a giggle out of me.
>>
>>24638688
And tack on "and the worst is yet to come" at the very end.

Bonus points for getting that reference.

"IMPERIAL DOGS! BEHOLD MY POWER! I! JAGER STURMFURHER DEFEND THESE ALBION ISLES, AND I JUST! SUNK! YOUR! BATTLESHIP!"

>>
>>24638652
If this doesn't get our name running through the empire, nothing will.
>>
>>24638709

Eh, no. Let's not do that.
>>
>>24638730
HAH! That is perfect. Tell her we still have to get her back for the house yet!

That bit sounds like it tries too hard.

"To Detlef Fliesher, Imperial Knight in charge of this sorry ass fleet. Your flagship was worth ten Gallian bullets and twelve Albion torpedoes. If you wish to continue this invasion, the Demons of Randgriz invite you to try."

Voting for this.

Sweet, sweet Karla Guilt will be felt..
Poor Fedies, having to face her Wrath..

Bahahahah!!!
The problem is, the Knight is most likely dead..
The most prideful nutball is OF COURSE going to be on the Lion..

Probably trying to get the Lion close enough to the enemy to hit them with his sword..

"ATTENTION IMPERIALS!" You yell in the radio with you loudest and hammiest voice.. "Greetings from the Demons of Randgriz and Jager Sturmfuhrer, we'd like to welcome as your hosts to hell, where we hope you'll enjoy your stay! Also, I. SUNK. YOUR. BATTLESHIP!"

Your squad is trying to refrain from breaking out into laughter, managing to restrain it girly giggling.

The Vergeltung rides the high tide as it steams back to port. Elizabeth says that her report about how your sinking of the Lion made Lynch nearly faint on the spot, which makes things all the much sweeter.

You wonder if your little taunt to the Imperials was a good idea. However, it's too late to change that now. For better or worse, if you weren't on the Empire's radar, you definitely were now.

"You're sure its him?"

"The dog had the gall to call us out over our own radio channel. By name."

"I see..."

Hmm yeah actually it would work better in a different situation. Here it's just mixing two different tones in our speech.

That is actually a passing reference to the 1st Special Forces, which was joint Canadian/American. And despite the presence of Jack I don't think they would exist in this world. (Unless Albion colonized not-northamerica at some point)

>>24638821
> I. SUNK. YOUR. BATTLESHIP!
Pffffhahahahaha. Good times.

Sorry about the arguments, I'll try to be more clear if I'm voting for something as opposed to brainstorming tactics.

>>24638884
Since we seem to be getting so much mileage out of this sub I hope we can get some upgrades for it. For instance converting some of that bunk space back into torpedo storage. Getting more torpedoes to begin with might be an issue.
>>
>>24638936
Or we leave the sub as is. A spec op drop-off/pick-up ship. The only reason it should ever be fighting is that it's sniping a major target like the Loin.
>>
>>24638991
Ehh, it could use the extra firepower really, it can hold several companies of troops, which is way too much troop space as far as the demons are concerned, by the time we control that many troops we'll be able to pay for dedicated troop transport anyways and the sub will still be able to drop a company or so covertly.
>>
>>24638991
Good point, then if we wanted to improve it's firepower we could get some ammo/cannon upgrades for the tank since that doubles as the subs deck gun.
>>
>>24638821

Thanks sturm fuhrer, you're a bro.

The Valk Chronicles OST is also the tits for reading this quest.
>>
>>24639022
>several companies of troops
>A single company is 80–250 soldiers

You better be joking about that, son.
>>
>>24639026
That I'm okay with. I would love to get a 90mm put on that tank.
>>
>>24639042
He probably means platoons, which is a slightly more realistic number.
>>
>>24639077
An understrength one at that.
>>
>>24639042
>The Vergeltung is about twice the size of a German U-boat

>German type IX
Length: 76.6 m (251 ft 4 in) overall
58.7 m (192 ft 7 in) pressure hull

twice that, yeah, it could hold 2 - 3 companies, though no-one at all would be comfortable.
>>
>>24639042
>>24639077
No, I meant companies, though I did also mean on the small end of 80.
>>
>>24639091
The Type IX had a crew of 55 I believe and there was no fucking room in that bloody sub. Even if you double the size you get no more than a reassembly strength platoon into it. Even taking out some of extra trop holds.
>>
>>24639116
it had no room because that space was taken up by equipment, doubling the size nowhere near doubles the equipment requirements.
>>
>>24639130
Engines for one. Batteries for two. You need bigger one for the former and more of the second. That takes up a lot of the room in the sub.
>>
>>24639130
While true, you would STILL be lucky to get more than a reinforced platoon on there. A lot of space in a sub is taken up by ballast tanks, hydraulics and electrical wiring, and that's not even mentioning the modifications which would need to be made to actually berth the troops with functional heads, all this on top of the now greater supply requirements.
>>
>>24639144
Egine space and battery space is already mostly accounted for though, and unless you're trying to set speed records, you don't need to hugely increase the engine size on a ship as you increase its mass, you just need to do enough to offset some of the slowing down.
>>
>>24639160
Show me a Type IX doubled in size with same engines, and I'll show you sitting duck.
>>
>>24639154
There's also the implicit space requirements of watertight compartments, ammo & gear storage and the fuel for the sub itself, of which more will be required because of the increased displacement.
>>
Don't forget this sub is using ragnite technology. There have been many examples of ragnite powered supervehicles to date, so if the sub lacks for anything it's not engine power.
>>
>>24639175
>same engines

Who said that? I said you didn't need twice as much engine power since you shouldn't be expecting to go the same speed in a larger boat, it'd basically make you glow in the dark as far as sonar is concerned at that speed.
>>
>>24639188
You said engine and battery space were accounted for. That's only true if you're leaving the engines untouched because ship and sub engines are fucking huge. If you are adding more engines, you will need more space and probably will need to massively redesign the ships interior.
>>
>>24639209
I said "mostly" accounted for, as in there is a space for them, and increasing their size wouldn't necessarily impact the space requirements by a particularly large amount due to efficient space use in an increased volume.
>>
>>24639154
>>24639186
Not to mention the fact we have tank (the whole thing) as the deck gun and whatever mods they had to do to get it to fit.
>>
>>24639235
Except that decks in the sub are still about head height, so either these new engines are installed literally on top of the old ones, which is a bad idea, or there are separate engine decks, which compounds the space issue.
>>
>>24639304
Well, actually, if the sub is two times longer, it can also be two times fatter, making the overall volume increase about 8x.
This, of course, raises even more problems with engines power, batteries and so on.
>>
come at us cunt!
